Carcer Americana
This is /tg/'s attempt at a setting in which modern America is turned into a fantasy adventurer's paradise. Citizens are turned by monsters, landmarks and important buildings are dungeonized, and a foreigner can make a fortune if he can survive long enough to nab himself some treasure.
>>
>>39373864
http://pastebin.com/ZpPkmULm Where I'm keeping the notes
On an otherwise ordinary day, the United States of America ceased to exist.
Bad news travels fast, and thanks to the magic of the information age, the utter and complete disappearance of an entire nation swept the world like wildfire. China panicked because a major consumer of their goods had just vanished off the face of the earth, and the world economy suffered a crippling blow. Military personnel stationed overseas suddenly had no home to return to. Some worried that certain world powers might take advantage of the absence of a serious rival.
And then, two days later, America returned.
But it was not the America the world had known. As the aerial news coverage showed, the infrastructure was intact, but it all seemed to have become more sinister practically overnight. When the UK sent an exploratory team to New York City to investigate, they found not humans, but monsters. Monsters of every shape, size, and poison potency.
Strangely enough, the citizenry seemed to have no idea what had happened, nor that anything had happened at all. They claimed that America had always been like this, and that if you didn't like it, you could fuck off back to Europe.
But there was treasure to be had, and if anything can get someone to come to America, it's the promise of money. Chests full of gleaming gold coins had materialized in buildings (referred to by locals as "dungeons") all across the nation, jealously guarded by the Americans themselves. Only the bravest and most skilled could get to that gold.

If you want to add anything to the setting, go for it
>>
I think it'd be nifty if, instead of Standard European Fantasy monsters, the setting sticks to monsters from Native American and frontier folklore (Jersey Devil, Piasa) and modern American urban legends (Mothman, Bigfoot, etc) like in OP's pic.

>I imagine how you defined yourself most in life would influence. Very devout people would become cleric-type monsters, avid hunters would become werewolfs and skinwalkers. Scholars become mages, athletes and physical laborers become brute monsters like ogres or orogs. Honey boo-boo's mom becomes a gelatinous cube and basement dwellers become kobolds. The wage slave who doesn't car about his job but loves drag racing on the weekends gets to be a centaur or some other incredibly fast monster.

The black people have become negroid satyrs. Behavior is otherwise pretty unchanged.
>>
>>39373930
Problem with that is that there's really no variety (plesiosaur, big hairy dude, big animal, etc, Jersey Devil and Mothman are anomalies), and most of them are solitary monsters. There's no social beings like goblins or that shit
>>
>>39373864
Why just united states?

Why not the entirety of the americas and now Europe has to recolonize
>>
>>39373930
From the other thread
>America's reputation as a melting pot could potentially make things interesting by throwing in monsters and mythical creatures from every country in the mix.
>Could you imagine how freaky a China town populated by creatures from Chinese folklore must be? Imagine those creatures living along side things from Slavic myths and Mexican legends.
>>
>>39374001
I feel that things like that should be trends rather than hard and fast rules you could end up as something completely random due to your area needing it. also we are going with a hard and fast no one remembers their old lives now?
>>
>>39374014
we need the canadians human for main source of trade
>>
>>39374001
Depends on location and personality though, like all transformations.

For instance, some are now pimp-drow
>>
>>39374064
Maybe everyone is suffering an almost hypnotic push ti just accept things as they are and not dwell on the non-monster past because being a monster rocks. Now get back to mining that dungeon maze for the dragon.
>>
>>39374104
so the monsters are npc only now?
>>
>>39374001
Fuck off, /pol/. This whole thing is designed to devolve into the most craptastic series of racist jokes imaginable. Next thing you know, the monster tribes will scare each other from land by seeing who the most vigorous clapper is.
>>
>>39373930
All the folks in the Appalachian mountains turn into the Moon Eyed People. Old Cherokee tale. Pale skinned humans lived in the mountains that were forced west after they lost a war with the Cherokee. They were nocturnal, couldn't see well in the day and were mound builders.

Probably equivalent to a goblin-like race or fae or something.
>>
>>39374012
You don't know anything about American mythology at all if you think there's no social monsters. There's literally hundreds.

A strict decrease in variety isn't very fun, anon. Especially since they're almost all just
>Bigfoot
>Another bigfoot
>A pleiosaur
>Another pleiosaur
and not really associated with treasures
>>
>>39374247
Yeah, someone already pointed that out. That being said, inside experience tells me black culture really is that homogeneous at times. However, from what I've seen:
>The music and art crowd would likely be satyrs
>Sports crowd could become Orcs
>Religious and business crowd would be Drow

Any other ideas?
>>
>>39374293
>That being said, inside experience tells me black culture really is that homogeneous at times.

Its more S&S style treasurehunting in a contemporary setting than Shadowrun.
>>
>>39374289
You're completely forgetting all of Native American mythology which is absolutely rife with crazy weird shit that gives Euro fantasy a run for it's money.
>>
>>39374289
Maybe in the setting bigfeet could be a race? A hostile, nomadic, primitive people who have a tendency to take over buildings or abandoned towns. If they aren't abandoned, they soon will be.
On the other hand, plesiosaurs could be akin to dragons in this setting. Rare, big, and in multiple different types.
>>
>>39374339
Ah, in that case disregard just about everything I said.
>>
So, how are we going to inclue serial killers?

Yeah, there are in no way strictly Anerican, but they've become part of Americana, a deranged psycho killer who does horrible things to his victims prior to the killing.
>>
>>39374293
Or people could just be people. I want a giant city sized dungeon crawl, not pol v. tumblr.

Imagine Disney World the dungeon, and at the heart of it the Demilich Disney.
>>
>>39374207
I imagine that would certainly be an issue, but most raids would probably be fairly key most of the time. Perhaps most of the new American monsters are content staying in the UDA for the most part but occasionally get rowdy enough to cross the border for fun or loot.

Of course there'd also be the ever-present threat of one of the dragons or some charismatic leader rallies a big enough group to do a major raid into Mexico or Canada.
>>
>>39374386
They could be some halfbreed Americans. Because, like humans, Americans fuck pretty much everything, and therefore probably would have some kind of offspring with their new native humanoid beings. And half dragons. In this case half plesiosaurs.
>>
>>39374350
There's nothing wrong with *having* Americana monsters, but its unnecessarily restrictive to have them all be so. Not to mention that S&S and european monsters are just as much a part of the cultural gestalt as old timey Americana monsters.

Its a setting with contemporary dungeon crawling, doesn't have to just be local tribe mythology.

Detroit ...
In this city, as in most, aristocratic vampires from the outskirts feed upon a myriad of downtrodden creatures who cower within the towering labyrinth of strange architecture.

But despite the seemingly constant violence among the clans of monsters, there is great treasure to be found by those with the strength to claim it.

The great foundries run by golems and elementals still constantly churn out wondrous machines and magical tools.

If anybody could harness the spirits that make the hammers fall and the cogs turn, they would be able to field an army.
>>
>>39374386
They'd probably end up as some of the really vicious and predatory monsters that you can't really bargain with, but just do your best to avoid. Boogiemen seem like one good choice; a creature who never see until they're coming after you to do who knows what.
>>
The South turns into orcs with southern accents that are lazy and have barbecues all day. They only get violent around yankees.
>>
>>39374513
I vote the new American humans are just called Yankees as a race. All in favor?
>>
So that other thread turned into this? Not disappointed.

Know my state is thunderbirds, but goddamn if this happened I'd just want to be a fucking vampire.
>>
>>39374529
So the millions of Americans who were outside the States at the time of the event are called Yanks? Alright.

They'd probably get bonuses to Diplomacy and Knowledge of the country, considering that's where they're from.
>>
>>39374386
Could also go the kinda pretentious root and have them not change at all because, hey, they're already monsters. Maybe they're the few people who remember what America was like, and they're *pissed* that now everyone, not just them, is seeing monsters and conspiracies. And no one knows why they understand at all, they just do.

Could also be a good source of "magic" weapons. Sam's Revolver, Dahmer's Acid Jars, maybe a combined Garrote item.
>>
>>39374529
Sounds good imo, though it'd be pretty fucking hard to deal with that shit emotionally.

Hmm, where I live would be interesting.
Belvoir is more of a support base than a combat one, but has tons of extremely smart and high ranking people despite its more relaxed nature.
Also the headquarters of very many intelligence agencies and R&D. I'd think it'd resemble Duke's Archives, being filled with books both mundane and extremely dangerous. Basically a gigantic yet comfortable library inhabited by various menial servants and powerful spellcasters.
>>
>>39374582
I kinda like the idea that some creatures you couldn't really trust at all would be the ones who are pretty much human. You can bargain with all the other inhuman-looking beings running around from kobolds up to dragons, but that regular looking guy you came across? You can't turn your back on him because you'll have a knife sticking out it soon after.

I feel like they should have some supernatural items/skills a la nWoD's Slashers, at least when it comes to killing. Otherwise they're just regular humans who need to eat, breathe, and sleep same as anybody else.
>>
Clarksville, Tennessee.
It's essentially the crappy grinding area filled with goblin grifters and kobold methheads that lies next to the super dangerous dungeon known as Fort Campbell

Yeah, like something like the Freeway Killers wouldn't be three disconnected killers, but one killer than can be more than one place at once. Or a Bundy type would be the smartest type of creatures on earth. All those people saying god or the devil or the neighbor's dog told them to? They're right.

The Lobo tribes are mostly harmless herders. They're gnolls who've migrated from their Aztecan roots in Mexico.
But, beware the Chupacabra, they are the diabolically tainted dire-gnolls who prey upon all that walks under the sun.

The tall savannah grasses sway beautifully in the wind, but watch your step. The giant fire ants put the entrances to their nest there. A small enough problem one at a time, they swarm when confronted with an enemy. Do not be surprised to find them at any time. Their tunnels stretch everywhere, and no adventurer has yet found the fabled Queen.

The dryads of the Live Oaks are a welcoming lot, but do not tarry overlong, for decades may pass unnoticed beneath their great limbs (and other great body parts).
The Mesquite dryad is insidious and prevalent. Do not touch one, for they are poisonous and drain water and life from what they touch. But, should you slay one, burning their remains produces a smell both appeasing to God and Man.

The centaurs are the peace-keepers and border patrol. Or, at least, they claim they are. Do not anger them, for they are quick to temper and brutal in their vengeance. However, should you show strength in your dealings with their enemies, they will give you some moderate respect.

What few battle sites in Texas there are are haunted. Caves dot the land and centuries of stashes just wait to be found. But, for true wealth, plunder the ruin cities that dot the coast.

Plus you think the Bible Belt is extreme now? Imagine a bunch of monster cultists that devout. I don't live in Louisiana so I won't get started on swamp monsters and voodoo, but stories of hags who steal your skin and weave it into a suit for her husband Satan, Demon dogs, and god knows how many ghost stories. >Louisiana/New Orleans
A land covered in wretched swamps and tortured forests where light refuses to touch the earth. The swamps are filled with a dark, thick, slippery fluid that clings to objects and trees exist in a foreign form that borders of life and death.
Deeper into this coiled land lies a city, a city of blasphemous rituals and magic where life and death bound into mockeries of one another. Rotten ingredients and sinful currencies are exchanged for unnatural knowledge and forbidden pleasures bought from cackling hosts in evil services that give praise to forgotten lords. The corrupting energies, left over from these performances, are left to sink into the surrounding lands further twisting it around a form of mock mortality.
Worse still are the mysterious scaled things that are said to dwell within the heart of the surrounding swamplands and the indescribable horrors these beings themselves call gods. Horrors that no man, sane or otherwise, dare say exist. Whose unearthly croaks and gurgles can be heard coming from the bottom of those pools of black ink.

I'm not saying CAD is hard, at its base level; shit, it was easy enough for me to manage it as a 14 year old. I'm saying that Draftsmanship is a persistently useful and applicable skill which is arcane in its application, but obvious in its result.

Anyone can doodle in CAD; but to create drawings which can communicate what they need to, to a group of construction people unfamiliar with even the most basic aspect of engineering, in enough detail to manage to keep everything to spec?

There is a reason I am paid well to do my job; and its cause other people can't do it as well.

Now I'm imagining a skellington in business casual, toting an AR and coffee just leaving scattered bullets behind him everywhere.

More like the legend of the monster is so old that it inspired similar myths in descendent cultures.

Additionally, because myths often arose from fears and motivations inherent to humanity in general. Most cultures also have a monster in the form of a human or once-human which feeds on other humans, with an emphasis on their psychological need for cannibalism being both the cause of their condition and the source of their horror.

The Alamo of San Antonio, although infested with various factions of cultists, is actually one of the safer parts of the state, a labyrinthine fortress all but impenetrable to those who would wish to invade, but entry would require garnering the favor of the fervent patriots to a non-existent state, a risky and possibly dangerous proposition.

However, east of the great ruins of Houston lies a less famous but infinitely more dangerous battleground, where the ghosts of those slaughtered at San Jacinto remain like a grudge, pulling down into the mire of the swamps which line the gulf tributaries anyone foolish enough to approach. Rumors that the lost treasure of their master sunk into the swamp with the bodies, however, prove to tempting to keep everyone away.

I'd still rather swim across the crystal bay than set foot in Big Bend. For it wasn't water that carved those peaks and canyons.

They'd be facing a lot of unknown threats in trying to claim land. While I doubt they'd face too much trouble unless the natives rally together properly, actually holding that territory would probably be a lot harder. There's also the fact that it's entirely possible they won't all be working together. So perhaps they're too worried about losing too much and then having another country swoop in and claim all their hard work.

Geography and demographics should also be taken into account. The US covers a lot of land and only has land borders with Canada and Mexico, neither of which are particularly well equipped to annex large portions of the former US. Add in the fact that the US is the third most populous nation on the planet (well behind China and India, but still a decent amount more than those that rank right under it like Indonesia, Brazil, and Pakistan) and you've got vast amounts of land and a lot of new monsters running around in it.

I imagine that the more powerful nations/alliances would attempt to gain control over particularly valuable areas, they wouldn't be able to hold large swathes of territory that easily.

There's some dissidence here about what races would become what monster, or what have you, so I thought maybe I'd throw mt idea out there.
So, basically, you are transformed into a monster from the mythology of your respective race, but your LIFESTYLE determines what KIND of creature you become. So, like, if you're athletic, and have European ancestry, you become an elf, or like, if you're Japanese, and are swole as fuck, you become an oni or something.

Because New England lacks any really interesting folklore, I'm writing this very Lovecraft centric, so do add to it. And I cannot think off the top of my head for any specific monster race's to make the puritans and Iroquois

Alright thought it over again. New England is mainly divided into three areas.

In Massachusetts and Connecticut, The Old Ones and Elder Gods indirectly rule over large groups of warring cultists made up of a myriad of monster races, Mechanical Tik-Tok Men, Deep Ones, Monstrous beast-like spawn of Yog-Sothoth, Shoggoths, and many more. They particularly fight over important holy sights, particularly The Reliquary of the Blessed Seer in Hartford, where the one who first predicted the coming of the Old Ones was born. And over the great Ziggurat in Boston, where it is prophesied that Cthulhu will rise from and destroy the world.

The areas of New Hampshire, Most of Maine, and Rhode Island are a little bit different. Rather than the monstrous inhabitants worshiping the Old Ones with great fervor, the instead turn to God, heavily fortified Puritan communities have sprung up in these places, eking out and agricultural existence amid constant assaults from the cultists. These communities have faith that burns likes fire, and fire is their preferred tool when dealing with the heretic worshipers of Eldritch Gods.

In the northern parts of the region, the Iroquois have reappeared as a powerful force, battling both the puritans and cultists alike with ancient spirit magics and liberal amounts of tomahawks

The City of Boston, one of Americas oldest. Here the population is diverse but the cities is home to one of the largest Leprechaun populations in America and holds the Largest Tuatha festival, a week long event on top of St.Patrick's consisting of beer, music, Green hats and the annual sacrifice to the Celtic deities of old (though most Leprechauns identify as Catholics so don't mention what they're doing is blasphemy). It also hosts the second largest population of followers of the Old Ones in the East Coast. This historic city is also home to some of the most prestigious magical and technical universities in the country. However, the neighboring city of Cambridge is motr famous for being the home of the Harvard School of technology and magical-law, which looms high above the city on a floating island chained to the bay so that it could never fly away, much to everyone's great disappointment

The former city of Chicago is a wonderous mix of Victorian-style technology mixed with the wonders of steam and electricity. Large, monstrous electronic-charged golems travel through the city, nigh unstoppable but following a rather interesting patrol above and below the city proper. A series of dungeons litter the lakeside, all along a route the locals call the Drive of the Lake.

The dungeons are as follows:

A coliseum where any and all can fight, against random foes ranging from the smallest Fae to the largest metal golem, though there is an unusual occurance of large grisly bears being the for most adventures fight.

A dungeon where a cult of sky worshipers reisde who call upon the gods above to revive the mad wizard Alder.

The Dungeon of Fields is a series of magical portals and rooms that transport you to various periods to fight anything from wooly mammoths to actual T-Rexes.

S&I's Dungeon (pronounced as Sai) is the current home of a demi lich whose futuristic (think 50's style robots) golems and chimeras wander the halls, guarding new, undiscovered forms of magic and science, as they are abandoned projects of the mad demi-lich.

And towering above the city lies the Tower of Seers, an impossibly tall structure made of black crystal and twisted, charred metal with two large, diamond spires at the top. Rumors circulate that this tower is filled with traps, stairs, rooms that go on forever, and bottomless pits. And this doesn't even begin to cover all the cultists and zombies inside. But if you can harness the power inside, you could deliver a message to the gods themselves.

The Hells Angels. They say that they used to be a motorcycle gang back before everything changed. Now, well they live up to their name.

A gang of devils who serve the man downstairs himself. Some say they inspired Son of Sam. Not that far fetched, they tend to go about possessing troubled souls to do their biding, rarely good things.

Some still ride their bikes but it's usually both safer and faster for them to just fly from place to place. You can tell an angel easily by their horns and their members jacket, they enjoy being able to stand out in a crowd.

Slippery demons they are, hard to catch, harder to get it talking. But once you break them they'll tell you where they stash their goods. Hey, break them enough and you might even get them to lead you straight to the residence where every divorce lawyer goes to pasture, if you know what I mean.

>cont.

The Cell Field, located at the edge of the city, houses all the souls of those who have died in the area. For a price, you can chat with them, kill them again, or even set them free. Rumors abound of a group of men who died and freed themselves from the curse of the field, but those are just rumors.

There is a place in the northern half of the city, a zone where only the dead reside in, and every few days these living dead flock to a location called the Ivory Wall, an imposing wall made of bone and ash, and every time these dead bash the walls, hoping to one day break the curse keeping their bodies alive. But no one there remembers anyone succeeding. And every year the wall seems to grow larger and larger...

The former world-reknown universities and colleges in the city are still there, but their libraries now house forbidden knowledge and are closely guarded by cultists and fanatics who seek to use that knowledge for evil gains.

There are rumoros of a hellish place west of the city, where giant minotaurs and ice demons work in tandem to guard the treasures located inside their Keep of Unity, as a giant metal golem patrols outside with a large ball and chain to fend off any would-be treasure hunters.

What happened to those nuclear silos you say?
Well, they're still there, still armed, but no ones manning 'em. You heard me right, not a single soul has set foot inside those facilities that lives to tell about it today.

Now, the government won't tell you any of this, but apparently there's a 'malfunction' in the mainframe where some sort of virus has hijacked the firing mechanisms and they can't seem to fix the glitch. So it's locked all the doors, cut off all communications, and basically sealed these bases shut from any outside contact.

Ever hear of Dead Hand? No? Well, It's like that, but entirely by accident. They've tried everything, sent god knows how many soldiers down there to their deaths, and yet it remains same as it has been. Now, by all means you can try your luck, an armed nuclear warhead would sure as hell have a lot of people paying you top dollar. Just don't expect to come out of there alive if you do go in. Only God knows what awaits you then my friend.

STORY TIME, whether you want it or not.

“Thank you all for coming. Exactly 7 days ago the United Nations lost all contact with the United States for 48 hours. Any ship that tried to enter the area was found drifting at sea near Mexico and Canada. Likewise all aircraft attempting to enter U.S. space were found stranded outside their borders. Any attempts at electronic communication failed. All attempts at radio contact failed, but were responded with this noise.” A cacophony fills the room and the delegates quickly force it off. “This noise has been analyzed and despite the claims that it has concealed whispers no message has been found. No researcher has been able to study it for more than 12 hours without demanding reassignment.” There are murmurs among the nations who were rumored to force their scientists to study the noise, although they all denied that those who listen to it too long began to act strangely. “We attempted satellite imagery, but the only thing we could see was this.” A picture is projected of dark clouds covering the nation, ending exactly where America’s national borders ended. “Any person who tried to enter the U.S. during this time were found unconscious and amnesiac a mile from where they tried to enter.”

“Although we never regained satellite imagery or radio contact, eventually we were able to reenter their borders. This meeting will address what the soldiers who came back alive saw, and will discuss what we need to do from there.”

Approximately 1 hour after we were able to enter the nation Canadian Special Forces attempted to fly to the Capital to see what had happened. This” the speaker says as he slides to the next image “was where the statue of liberty should have been.” America’s symbol of freedom had been replaced with an evil looking knight, whose red eyes were directed at the camera. “From this point on we will be relaying on the testimony of the sole survivor of the downed plane.”

>”Downed plane?”
Diplomats from all over the world begin speaking over each other demanding why they hadn’t been informed earlier, asking who downed it, each trying to appear like they had some control over the situation.
Eventually they quiet down as a video of an unknown bandaged soldier is played, apparently interviewed from his hospital bed.

>“Just tell us what happened, in your own words.” The video explains his name, his mission, and repeats what the U.N. speaker said until the soldier starts to talk about what he could see from his helicopter.

”I’m used to snow, but the wilderness of New York shouldn’t have been layered in it this deep during April. The most worrying thing was how silent everything was. You couldn’t see any animals, any sign of life anywhere. We were ordered to fly over New York City on the way to see how bad the damage to the city was. The first thing we noticed was the statue, at least twice as big as the real Statue of Liberty. It wasn’t facing the harbor like it should have been. No matter where we flew it looked at us with those soulless eyes. We flew closer to get a better look, and then it moved.”

>“It moved?”
“It swung that giant sword right at our helicopter. We started crashing immediately and the other chopper flew away to avoid being downed. We should have died. There is literally no way any of us should have survived that crash.”

>”But you did.”
>>
>>39392914
“When we woke up I never would have imagined I was in New York. Somehow-again, this should be impossible-we were in what I think was once Manhatten. How we traveled that distance I don’t want to know. The city was no longer steel and glass. It was rock, brick, concrete, shattered glass, all wadded into one lump. The only way I can describe the city is like an insect hive, giant mounds covered in holes. By the time I had my bearings I realized the walls were moving. Giant man-sized insects pushing and shoving traveling across what used to be the streets of the city. Some were carrying rotting carcasses, but the majority seemed to be building the hives themselves. It was only a matter of time until one of them stumbled across us, and as soon as it did it charged. We lit it up, but that was our first mistake. It took an entire clip before that thing was down, and the juices oozing out of it ate through the floor. Then we heard them. Every single one of those damn things was charging at us. We had to choose to stay up there and definitely die, or run into the hole and probably die. I ran, and I ran and I ran and I tried to ignore the screams behind me. By the time we stopped there were only two of us. We found ourselves in something completely different. This wasn’t the spit and rock from before. This stone was crafted, and torches lit the halls. Travelling this way was better than heading back to certain death. Looking back I would have preferred the bugs.”

“5 minutes in and spears shot up from the ground into our feet. Makeshift Molotov’s dropped from the ceiling. Floors dropped away, ceilings collapsed, and then I saw eyes watching us. Yellow, reptilian, filled with sadistic malice.” The soldier takes a moment to rub where his eye used to be. “They were wearing us down, waiting until we collapsed from exhaustion. We tried to shoot them, but it was a mirror and they began to laugh. I still hear it, a cross between an alligator and a hyena.
>>
>>39392939
Eventually we had to rest, and then the torches snuffed out. Then we felt stabbing pain in our thighs and feet. I didn’t want to risk shooting John, so I tried to grab where I thought they were and bashed its head against the wall. It was no bigger than a child, but I felt it biting me killed it. I heard John’s hands clawing at the floor as they dragged him away. I knew I was next.”

>The interviewer waits a few minutes before asking him what happened next, and has to ask twice before the soldier even realizes it.

“It took three swings to kill it. When I heard its skull crack I felt the wall behind me fall away. I assumed it was another one of their tricks before I saw the room. It had a bed, food, and no entrance. A torch hung on every wall, and in the corner stood a hooded figure, the only thing I could see where its eyes. Apparently every damn thing in that place had eyes that glow. I could finally see what had been attacking me, although I wish I hadn’t. Imagine a crocodile the size of an 8 year old, carrying a bloody short sword. I finally realized how bad of shape I was in when I collapsed.”
>>
>>39392963
“I woke up on the bed, covered in bandages. The hooded thing was now sitting a table, covered in food. It motioned for me to sit, and for some reason I joined. I didn’t know I had moved until I was already sitting down. Its voice was a high pitched whisper as it motioned for me to eat.”

>”That long rest should have done you some good. This area is a little above your level, I recommend starting from the border and working your way here next time.”

“I asked it what it meant, but it would only tell me to eat and get my strength back before I had to go deeper. I starting yelling at it, but it never showed any emotion. I can’t forget it.”

>”I’ll give you a path to the very bottom of the dungeon, where you’ll be able to find an exit. Look for a glowing blue orb, although you shouldn’t touch any of the treasure.”

“It winked at me, and handed me a bag. Food, water, rope, and a ten foot pole.”

>”Always need one of those.”
“was the only reason I could get out of it. Eventually I stood up, and despite everything I had been through wasn’t in any pain. Before I could ask it anything else it snapped its fingers and I started to fall through the floor. It wasn’t joking about that tunnel, I must have slide for over an hour. I started hearing things. Screams of pain. Scream of ecstasy. Chanting that sounded like prayer. The sounds of hundreds of beings walking in the tunnels around me, waiting for me. Waiting for me to exit the tunnel so they could do to me what they did to my team. Some areas were so hot I felt I was in hell. Some were so cold I thought I was invading Russian in winter. Eventually I saw light, and landed on what appeared to be a marble floor.”

“I was surrounded by mountains of gold. I don’t mean that as an exaggeration, I mean I was terrified one of those piles was going to collapse and drown me in a sea of metal. Scrooge McDuck would have felt like I pauper in their presence. That wasn’t the scary part though. The scary part was the dragon sleeping of top of it.”

>”Dragon? Are you sure you weren’t seeing things?”

“It’s hard to imagine a 10 ton winged lizard being anything else. Its head was bigger than a tank. After what felt like an eternity I found the orb, naturally under the damn thing’s tail. I fished it out with the 10-foot-pole when a pile of the treasure began to fall my way. By the time I was on my feet it was beginning to move, and I couldn’t find the orb. I hide, I ran, I dug. By the time its eyes fell on me I so afraid I began wishing I was dead. You can’t comprehend what it’s like to be in this thing’s presence without having been there. Just as it opened its mouth I saw two things. The first was the orb. The second was fire in the back of the monster’s throat. I grabbed the orb having no idea what it would do, only to wake up in my bed. I thought it was a dream until I saw that everything I was touching came with me. I was covered in gold, mediaeval weapons, stuff out of a Lord of the Rings movie. I found out I had been declared dead with the rest of my team.”
>The rest of the film is a series of medical tests proving the soldier’s sanity and that he thought he was telling the truth. It ends with one final cut to him.

“We didn’t survive that crash on accident. Those bastards wanted us to land there”.

>It takes thirty minutes of discussion before the delegates are satisfied that this isn’t a cruel joke. By the time everything I settled the speaker has a common sack in his hand.

“Inside of this bad is everything recovered from the patient’s home.”

>The speaker opens the mouth of the bag and dumps the contents on the floor, a pile of gold and items the size of couch.

“As you can guess, this bag was also one of the recovered items. Somehow this bag can contain a seemingly infinite amount of items inside of it. Also recovered were a sword made of a never before seen alloy stronger than anything known to man, and a red crystal capable of powering an entire city. We must discuss what all of this means.

>Hours pass as each delegate agrees that this new America is too dangerous, that they must work together to recover any survivors. Before the next day each nation were sending in teams to try and reclaim the nation’s treasures first. Somewhere a hooded figure laughs.

The State of Washington has become a strange place. It ever was, to those who studied it, but now the dichotomy of the state is even more apparent.

The Western side of the Cascades has grown to Sea-Attle, the Merfolk Capital of the Pacifican Empire, opposing the Atlanteans. Beyond its salt soaked thoroughfares and watery ways, the land is rich and green, populated by Sasquatch, Thunderbirds, Werewolves, and other beasts of the untamed wilds. Though the Red Mound Stronghold of the Dwarves is a bastion of magical and pseudo-technological power, home of the Boering Clan, the Mirocfost, and the Wise Ones of The Coast.

Crossing the mountains can be perilous, as they serve as nesting grounds for the mighty thunderbirds, and are plagued by wendigos, and hidden homes of the Sasquatch. Some venture through the Dwarven tunnels to avoid the frequently-closed and dangerous passes.

On the other side, it's a different world. The tight woods become rolling hills, carved by ancient glaciers. the land is wide and clear, and tended by farmers. But not just any farmers. The land is notable for having few of the great beasts of the plains. No bison run here, nor imported horses. No, this is a land of Squirrels, Chipmunks, Marmots, and Rabbits. So to have the people changed. They are known as the Firbolds, and are clear cousins of the Kobold, but where the kobold is scaled and paranoid, building traps, the Firbold is furred, and while still skittish, relies on speed instead of cunning. They are master sprinters, and adept and making hidey holes both for themselves, and the many foodstuffs they grow and store for later, whether to consume themselves in the brutal winters, or trade to others.

The firbold shun the eclectic nature of the West, viewing the creatures therein as self-absorbed, and too dedicated to high minded magics and spirits than the simple pleasures of the Earth.

I imagine one of the first things that would happen is the UN sending in their inefficient forces in to capture the US's nuclear weapon stockpile, as no one would trust the Monstermericans, followed by every other nation that could either to get them out of the hands of the monsters, or for greed.

But little do they know the extend of the change, of course even the nuclear arsenal would be effected. Warheads now turned to orbs that call forth Atomic Elementals should they be broken.

So..like this?

One territory of the East differs from the rest: the settlement of Pulled-Man. Where dwell the Cougaren. A fierce band of cat-like creatures, the Cougaren are raiders of the stockpiles of the Firbold. They are known for having unceasing appetites, but are not terrible enemies for the intrepid party: their fierce combative attitude is belied by relatively weak fighting presence. Their bark, such as it is, is far more aggravating than their bite. In fact, their fierce nature seems to be more self-aggrandizement, for defeating relatively weak foes. Their culture is not unlike ancient Vikings: they will descend upon a town, take what they can, and return to Pulled-Man to indulge in their loot.

Most notable of their settlement is that the creatures have made quite a few wineries, breweries, and even orchards for hard cider. The Cougaren are heavy drinkers, and the older members settle for tending such enterprises rather than join the raiding lifestyle.

Cougaren can be seen in other settlements and cities through the lands, for they are often quite adept hawkers for various wares, their loud cries common in markets across the land. It is known that they cheer their brethren on sight, speaking in their tongue, and boasting of their people's many (mostly unnotable) successes.

Archive? This shit's pretty good

Haven't, but I'll check it out.

Wrote it for you Anon.

The auto-archive saves us all.

Still a little too scaly, but that's pretty right. Imagine something between that and older Alvin and the Chipmunks, and you've got it.
>>
>>39393218
I kind of touched on that here >>39392434 where it's simply another dungeon albeit a more dangerous one but I like that idea too. Maybe the new US government sends out witches and warlocks out to shoot down any trespassers of American airspace so any attempt at tactical insertion would be impossible, therefor they need to hire gullible adventurers to go in and die for those Nukes.

It doesn't last forever

Might actually need a new thread soon...

>”That long rest should have done you some good. This area is a little above your level, I recommend starting from the border and working your way here next time.”

Nah, dont reference RPG shit. That's stupid. Otherwise, good job

That's the joke. It's a kobold, which, noted at the top of the thread, means it used to be a Basement Dwelling Nerd.

So it's actually treating this like the guy's an adventurer, and it's some helpful NPC.

I'd hope that, were I a kobold, I could throw out the self awareness of "Ha, just fucking with you. Vancian casting is for nerds!" Thus confusing the guy even more.

Actually it was meant to be a generic dungeonmaster stand in.

Ahh, Railroads. Nothing quite like the sight of a solitary train chugging along an open plain. Now, for one thing, trains nowadays contain treasure, and lots of it.

With planes becoming hard to maintain with the magical weather patterns and trucks now more than ever subject to bandits, the humble train has once again become the main way for one to both get around and move loot around the country.

Now, these trains can be pretty heavily guarded, so expect stiff resistance going in. Oh, and derailing it won't work, the trains themselves run on souls so they have a little bit of a vengeful personality if they get attacked; and well I've never seen a group of men go from shocked to bloody paste faster in my life.

Lot's of former train robbers from the old days guarding them as reanimated dead apparently. Guess it takes one to know one. Also watch out for any "Phantom Trains" that you may hear, those be bad omens.

Oh and last thing, out in West Virginia apart from the Hog-billies you'll find an abandoned tunnel by the name of Big Bend. Go there late at night and you can hear the ghost of old John Henry still hitting that rock with his hammer, go down there on a full moon and you'll find that those Phantom Trains you've been hearing have a station below ground for Americas "elderly" population live in the wonderful city of Necriopolis. It's like the 1800's down there in style, and you'll find that the Tomb-mansions owned by cats like J.P Morgan and John D. Rockefeller are pretty extensive, and house quite the haul.

For the last century, the most popular potions and elixirs in the UDA have been brewed in Atlanta.

Be it the rooted alchemical taste of Coca-Cola, or the magical and oh-so-genocidal tang of faerie wings in Sprite, these Alchemists have been some of the richest.

Well, they could always use the Interstate or the Plane of Planes:
>>39388972
>>39389666

I like it, though! It's a really good idea.
>>
>>39394141
Other methods aren't exactly the safest or most applicable for transporting large amounts of loot. Plane of Planes is expensive for the trans-dimensional fare you need to pay, and the Interstate has some unsavory characters within it. It'd take some serious guts to try and rob a train head on.

Makes sense.

I like it. Any more writefags around?

This really needs a new thread.
