Well /tg/ you did it again you magnificent bastards. You rolled a few numbers on the Marine Chapter creation table and you made a new Chapter. And then you fluffed the hell out of it.

The Ice Wraiths, a tech-heavy chapter of the Emperor's finest, descended from the Blood Angels and fighting an endless Crusade against xenos. Firstly the Orks, and now the Mi-Go splinter of Tyranids with their nefarious warm fuzzy coats and little ice-gripping feetses.
At their side are the Arbiters of all people and their ever-faithful and ever-cybernetically augmented yeti friends as they use ever more improbable and metal ice-based weaponry against the Tyranid horde. And they are lead by their Lord Marshal Riddick the XII and by actual not!Riddick the Chapter Master.

So fuck it. Drilling drop-pod using russian-inuit cyborg vampires riding doped up yetis into battle alongside policemen against the ravenous alien hoards. What the fuck else were you looking for on this site?

Armor Anon here, almost got a pic detailing the basic armors for each rank.

Also I can't wait until we get a drawfag. Can't wait to see our Chapter Symbol and Chaplain helmets.

So that's the final colors then? I can dig it.

Now, have we fleshed out how the yetis look like? Roided out gorillas, lean and sinewy abominations or what?

And is the chapter badge still a fanged deerskull on a snowflake?

I really liked the Litany of Serene Conflict in the last thread, sort of thing I expect some Wraiths would say. Especially with the thought of becoming a Wendigo hanging over their heads to remain calm and level-headed.

How do the Wraiths get along with the IG? Do xeno-eating cyborg vampire supersoldiers play nice with the trench troopers?
Mission first or Lives first?

>>39328857
I'd say that the difference between steel and ghost be more pronounced if we use them that way.
>>
>>39328874
The difference is that Ghost Face are a matte white, while Steel Face are shiny silver. Though I see your point. Perhaps just having only Ghost Face for default marine?
>>
>>39328970
That would probably be best. Although it would be nice for there to be something that could set the New Blood apart from the basic marines.
>>
It's not only Wendigos that are camouflaged for maximum effect. Part of marine's standard kit choices are camo capes for ambush tactics and recon work. In snowstorms a veteran can appear to become invisible at will to his foes and attack from unpredictable directions.
Indeed, it was this method of attack that gave the fledgling Chapter it's name.

The then unnamed Chapter had landed on their new homeworld and were preparing it as a staging post against the Ork hordes when they were first met with the greenskins and the natives of the planet. Well, the Codex was wheeled up and someone was sent to fetch the magnifying glass to check what it had to say about ice combat when it was noted the native warriors used skillfully made and painted hide cloaks to hide from the orks or strike at them when ignored. Fortunately, the wisdom of such a tactic was seen before someone found the index of the Codex and was shown to be of great use against the orks who had little idea of how to fight an opponent they couldn't see and could even hope to aim and land a meaningful hit against the swift astartes before they retreated beyond visibility.
Thus the name came to be whispered among the natives of the planet that the astartes were not mere men, or even supermen but mythical "Ice Wraiths", spirits of ice and vengeance that struck the unwary during storms. As it turned out, the new Chapter rather liked the name.
To this day, camo cloaks of various design are distributed to the marines to suit numerous battlefields and have fooled foes from across the galaxy long enough it was too late for them.
>>
>>39328970
yeah, that's enough

Also:

>Lord Marshall Riddick and all the men of the Wraiths drew up their forces by the Raven's Rock; and the Greenskins and their Nobs rode at them, driving themselves like a wedge through their army. And there was a great slaughter of Orks... they fought with them during the pursuit on the ice seven versts short of the shore. And there fell a countless number of Grenskins, and 400 of their leaders, and they took fifty's head with their hands and they took them to the Fortress-Monastery.

(adapted from the Novgorod First Chronicle about the historical Battle on Ice)
>>
>>39329056
I'd say their helmet has no red highlights. Part of their initiation involves hunting a local beast and eating it. Proves you're a survivor, a fighter and that you use your kills to strengthen yourself.
Mi-Go Tyranids give double points.

Mixing up your blood hunt with your yeti capture is not the best idea. You kill the beast and tame the yeti. Not the other way around.
>>
>>39329056
The New Blood could lack the red on the helmet. In hunting cultures a new hunter is marked on the face with the blood of their first kill.
>>
we have 3 chapter masters named at the moment with some lore TG.

We need writefags to take over for.

Lord Marshal Riddick IV fought a two day long fight with a Ork warboss on the world of Nacht and won by freezing the orks arms off before kicking him over a cliff!

Lord Marshal Riddick the IX they say when his Drill Pod broke, he punched his way through the ground and ended up clearing an entire nest of Tyranids by himself

Lord Marshal Riddick XIV got swallowed whole by a Tyranid and then froze the beast from the inside out
>>
>>39329178
>>39329282

remember that time Lord Marshal Riddick XIII managed to sneak up on a Tyranid during his initiation and rode it into a yeti camp. he chased the biggest yeti untill both the tyranid and the yeti were out of stamina, he then slaughtered the nid and fed part of it to teh yeti who would later become his comapnion

>>39329178

I'm still not convinced his yeti wasn't a 'nid in disguise who knew better than to fight back. Thing was vicious and was more intelligent than most of the initiates.

Hey, remember ol' Magos "Freeze" Fluoxus? Heard he's still tinkering with the local wildlife in his laboratory. Saw one his rejects walking the wastes. Some kind of natural cryothium gland, tried to freeze my foot to the ice with it's spit. Let me tell you, he ever makes something he's happy with I want to see it teched-up in battle against some greenskins.

If our fortress-monastery basically has a castlevania dungeon built in for initiates and attackers..
Do we seed the initiate's wargear throughout the dungeon for them to claim as they ascend the fortress? Can't get through this door, you need to hit a target from far away. But wait! Behind that ravenous beast is a bolter! This bridge won't lower without a voice command from a marine. Now if only you had a vox.. like that helmet does. Past that gauntlet. So it's like castlevania again in that you need to arm yourself as you progress. You kill, and you keep the spoils of what you kill.
Once the initiate is fully armed and armored, they can meet a Master of the Chapter who spars against them, final boss style to ensure they learnt the lessons of the dungeon below. On succeeding, they're a member of the Chapter.

Actually, this sounds harder than just their blood hunt.
Maybe you have to do the dungeon to be recognize as a Veteran? You have to cast aside your knowledge and power to reclaim it and surpass yourself.
Unless the blood hunt is just to BECOME an initiate? Holy fuck do they have some high standards.
>>
>>39329282
The actions that aided in the ascension of Lord Marshal Riddick XIV were challenged by the other contender for the position, Captain Fyor. Fyor argued that the account of being swallowed and killing the beast from within was a fabrication and that the cryogenic weaponry had simply caused the Tyranid's carapace to fracture under the stress of battle and exposed its vitals to attack. As such, the fight was a common victory seen by the Ice Wraiths and the future Lord Marshal was simply embellishing to further his status. This resulted in an honor duel that ended with Captain Fyor's death and the securing of the Lord Marshal position by the future Riddick XIV. Rumors of outside help by compatriots of the Lord Marshal abounded, but were quickly suppressed once he took command.

Who do the Ice Wraiths NOT get along with? I remember someone mentioning the more puritan Sororitas would not like our sangikuqq due to their almost-but-no-quite sorcery psyker tomfoolery.

I'd imagine they have a love/hate relationship with the Rogue Traders and various merchantile organizations that supply them with cryothium. Their suppliers charge them exorbitant prices since they're the only people who buy the stuff and they need so much of it.

There's an old /tg/ Sororitas homebrew called the Order of the Obsidian Mirror who were basically battle nun KGB. They weren't puritan at all, but group of spies using questionable methods to run a massive information network covering both Imperials and Xenos would make for some great jurisdictional friction.

Smurfs hate us for not being compliant, as well as our usage of Tyranids in rituals and hunts.

Wolves either respect us fr similair cultur, or hate us for blood rituals, shamanistic magic, love of stategy and stuff, reliance on tech, and preference over smaller weapons

Black Templars hate us for being degenerate wizard lovers and for relying on teched up Xenos to fight

Dark Angels find our castle tacky and think we're a bunch of mutants.

The Admech would find our willingness to swag up and use trophy equipment taken from kills to be Tech Heresy, and hate us for keeping the secrets of our STCs and Cryothium to ourselves

Ironhands think we're fags for preferring to tech up beasts and not ourselves. Also because Each Riddick prefers to walk around shirtless at the monestary and show off his well earned muscular body.

Imperial Fists are probably cool with us, as are the White Scars.

Ice Wraiths despise the Bluhd Ravens, because they keep always stealing our swag and their kleptomaniac tendencies are completely at odds with "keep what you kill"

Flesh Tearers probably think we aren't psycho enough and that we should stop sitting on a planet and should go eat things.

Am I missing anyone?

>>39329780
Keep what you kill. Most non-neohpytes always take trophies from thier kills and end up decorating thier armor and weapons with all manner of swag, so scrimshaw is common practice

>>
>>39330359
Okay... idea; the Wraiths discovered and "donated" the STC for cryothium. Which is actually a pretty big deal for the Imperium, military spec coolant and speciality ammunition. It just isn't as flashy as a new piece of wargear so people don't hear about it. Still, nearly every goddamn Leman Russ in the galaxy these days has some cryothium sloshing about keeping the machine spirit's drinks cool.
So basically, the closest forge worlds to the wraiths these days pump it out by the shipload, and for discovering the STC in the first place, the Wraiths won a lifetime's supply of it.

Fast forward a bit with techpriests and techmarines aplenty in one place with near infinite cryothium available and not much else... the Wraiths naturally developed the cryo-weaponry and advanced Termites on their own because fuck the Arbites. Except not really, they're bros.
The AdMech aren't the happiest about the new technology, but since it was developed with heavy Mars-trained priest oversight and the Wraiths did get them awesome coolant... they're still on the positive side of the AdMech. Too many plusses with only a few minuses.

Verkast huddled in the coat he had stripped from a corpse and tried to understand what had happened to his world. Three days ago it had been 30 degrees celsius and their rebellion against the Imperium had seemed a glorious success. Now neither of those things were true.

Two days ago dark clouds had suddenly filled the sky over the capitol while the vox squawked about "cryogenic weapons detonating in the upper atmosphere". A massive blizzard plunged the capitol into a complete white out and the vox started screaming about "orbital assaults" and "drop pods". Then it was screaming about "monsters". Then it was just screaming. Then it was silent.

Verkast's patrol had come across some of the pods, and across the bodies. Some were torn apart as if by clawed monsters. Some were shattered and scattered in frozen chunks. Some where intact except for viscous neck wounds; the medic said they'd died from blood loss, but there didn't seem to be much blood on the ground. Verkast didn't like to think about that, but at least he'd gotten an extra coat off one of them.

Then the patrol got hit. The enemy were giants who just seemed to materialized out of the swirling snow fall. They came out of the blinding white with chainswords roaring, and suddenly Sergeant Liekus just didn't have arms anymore. One shot a blast of mist from what looked like a flamer, engulfing three men. One simply stopped in his tracks while the other two toppled over, and shattered when they hit the ground. Verkast didn't see the rest die, he was already running, but he heard their screams. He'd been taught about the Adeptus Astartes, the Space Marines, but he'd always assumed the claims of their prowess were just exaggerations. Now he understood why they were called the Emperor's "Angels of Death".

The angels seemed to like the snow, so he figured they stay on the surface. The emergency lights were active in the tunnels. Though frightfully dim, they none the less gave Verkast some comfort.

"At least I'll see them coming," he muttered to himself.

"Do you really think so?" a voice calmly asked; from right behind him.

Shaking, Verkast turned slowly around. One of the angels stepped out from the thick shadows the emergency lights failed to pierce. With a hiss the seal on it's helmet released, and a wave of cold air washed over Verkast face as the angel revealed it's own. It's eyes gleamed in the darkness, like ice reflecting fire light, and frozen blood glistened on it's mouth and chin. The last thing Verkast thought as the astartes fell upon him was "angels shouldn't have fangs".

Marine face grills would pretty hard to notice IRL, let alone on the tabletop.

The reason unit patches, rank, insignia and such are put on shoulders, chests, and headgear in modern militaries is because these are places everyone looks and it's hard not to notice them. Somebody's mouth is a hell of a place to recognize what unit they're in.
>>
>>39331673
True, and officers will likely have additional insignia.
But don't forget that every single one of the Astartes has an intuitive and highly intelligent nervous-system linked HUD. They can look at another marine from behind and know their name, rank, what they look like under their helmet and probably request data from the apothecaries on what their favorite brand of protein slop is.
So long the IG can spot the one marine with gold trim and know to shout stuff at him first, they're fine. No need to know the specifics of their heraldry.
>>
>>39331731
Also i think we're trying to make them pretty aloof and mysterious cause they use such unorthodox tactics with the Terror-causing Wendigos so having them all look the same would be disorienting for anyone who didn't know specifically where to look
>>
>>39331673
As for the tabletop, perhaps adding the color as the trim on one shoulder.
>>
>>39331257
Like, they deliberately use a complicated and difficult tool to carve sculptures, because that increases the challenge? Sounds like something Marines would do.
And I could absolutely see >>39331130
marines pulling that as a joke on the initiates.
>>
>>39331731

The use of cryotherapy to hold the Red Thirst at bey is not completely successful. It leads to a condition the Ice Wraiths call "Zamorozhennyye Dusha", or "The Frozen Soul". The predatory hunger of the Red Thirst is still present, but it is tempered by a cold poise. Brothers succumbing to The Frozen Soul will often toy with their targets, spreading fear and confusion in order to better enjoy the panic of their prey. Some have even been known to converse with their prey before killing them.

Such behaviour is often seen even after a brother falls to the Black Rage. The infamous "Wendigos" of the Ice Wraith Chapter are no less savage and murderous than their counterparts in the death companies of other Sanguinary chapters, but they posses a psychotic patience which allows them to act with stealth while still compelling them to hunt their prey. It is only the most far gone of the Wendigo who lapse into the berserker fury the other sons of Sanguinius are known.

>Interestingly enough, thier assault marines tend to favor short weapons over the traditional chain weapons and thunder hammers. Each assault marine and Scout carries what can best be described as a power-trenchknife, though combat machetes are also common and Terminators are fond of Chainfists. To an Ice Wraith, close combat should be swift, efficient, and using as little force and energy as possible. The Chapter Master himself uses a pair of curved power blades of odd shape, which he claimed to have made from tusks of an Orc Warboss he killed with his own hands.

I love it! That's fucking amazing.
I think the Red Wendigos should draw inspiration from the Nightkin of Fallout. Invisible, psychotically broken individuals who whisper their litany in the shadows, the noise echoing throughout the halls and bases of our enemies. They watched, poised to strike, the whispers following their prey as they revel in their fear in an almost euphoric state. Some wendigos enjoy the sight of their prey commiting suicide, whilst others are enraged at their prize being taken from them.
>>
>>39332096
Or they tend to lose bits of themselves to frost bite during their initiations, so they often have a hand or foot replaced with bionics. A brother who gets in without losing at least a couple of toes is considered bad luck.

Oh. Can't believe I missed that. He missed Raven Guard.

>>
>>39331985
The First High Marshal Riddick was well known for using a pair of small handblades, which he made from ripping ot the tusks of an Ork Warboss a,d beating him to death with his bare hands. These blades have been passed from one Riddick to the next as a sign of the office.

Because of the Keep what you Kill philosophy each Riddick ends up introducing a new relic for the chapter with each successful crusade, whether the weaon was earned and weilded a a Riddick themselves, or was used by a brother of distinction in a particularly impressive battle.

Because of the need for many Ice Wraiths to constantly decorate and build upon their weapons, when they die thier gear is often entombed within a great subterranian armory and displayed in a manner as a form of ancestral respect and remembrance fr the accomplishments of thier predecessors.

It is very rare for any new Ice wraith to take upon themselves the weaponof a previous warrior. You keep what you kill, even in death, and all Ice Wraiths understand this and respectfully choose to build thier own legacy than borrow power from another.

You keep what you kill.

>>39332096
They love to cyborg up thier mounts, and being Orbital Drop specialists, then tend to need to replace a few parts every now and again. Some warriors who love a bodypart fighting a great foe will often either take that foe's arm or weapon and choose to have it grafted on.

>>39332157
I'd imagine they have great respect for each other due to similar ways in which they work.

How's this?

Master of the Forge Ivan:
The current Master of the Forge, Ivan is a technical savant even among a fairly technophilic chapter. He recently completely overhauled his personal wargear and armour to be more melee focused which only fueled the rumours that he has fallen to the Wendigo Curse. The Forgemaster himself seems to be spending an unhealthy amount time trying to see if cryothium can halt or reverse the effects of the curse.
>>
>>39332187
I have a feeling that you might be right.
>>
>>39332167
The Terminator formations of the Ice Wraiths are best known for their "winter storm" tactic. This involves deploying cryothuim grenades to freeze their enemies enmass and then smashing them to pieces with thunder hammers.
>>
>>39332171
Exactly. Either they return and are "put on ice" until next they're needed. Or they go full psychotic break and destroy their target, and everyone in a 20mile radius. In which case, they died in battle, on their feet. Keep what you take, your honour is yours today Wendigo.
>>
>>39332210
Go back to the last thread.
His name was Chekhov, the Forge Master who when he's not locking himself in the forge he's being launched from a cannon. This maneuver is called Chekhov's Gun.

Eldar? Xenos. Purge. Admittedly on the lower priority of xenos to purge. Gotta get the tyranids and orks first, they breed faster. Tau? ...who? Oh yeah. The Ultramarine's pet xeno crusade.

Other Chapters... >>39330165 hits a lot of the right notes.
We're the "Snowflakes" to a lot of chapters. One measly fuzzy tyranid encursion? Okay they know that there are actual reasons, but there's not a ton of respect around. Quite a small Chapter, known for assisting the cause of cooling systems more than military honors.. we're not exactly the Ultras over here.
Still, the 'manders and a few others like the Iron Hands like us. And Deathwatch loves someone who lives for xeno hunting and brings their own blades.
In fact for a Wraith, standard tyranids are seen as "naked" and a bit too squishy. Too fragile. Of course, other hive fleets make up for that in sheer numbers compared to Mi-Go's behemoths. But someone who will complain that the tyranids die too easily is someone Deathwatch will like.
>>
>>39331836
True. Similar to the Royal Navy, when you've got a bunch of people living in close confines with minimal contact with the outside world, everybody tries to get along ,not hold grudges, and indulges in occasional tomfoolery to pass the time.

Do you think the Wraiths sing? Or do they try to sing and accidentally terrify the Orks with disembodied voices wailing on the wind? Add a little more to the Wendigo mythos.
>>
>>39332210
>The Forgemaster himself seems to be spending an unhealthy amount time trying to see if cryothium can halt or reverse the effects of the curse.

A sure sign of "kholodno zavisimost" or "cold addiction", a common affliction of the Ice Wraiths falling to the Wendigo curse.

You see ivan, when hold boolter like me, you shall never shoot the inaccurate for fear of shooting fingers!

Ivan is the epitome of russian engineering and apparent madness among the Wraiths.
>>
>>39332187
But then with the "Keep what you Kill" view, how does the Chapter prevent all these weapons from just building up over the centuries?

Perhaps there's a doctrinal need clause, like if the chapter is threatened with annihilation or a true, deep need arises, every battle-brother, initiate, and chapter serf goes into the armory and takes up a Relic Weapon. Imagine, a thousand Marines and assorted humans suddenly going from relatively standard armament to balls-out insane level of unusual weapons and ancient relics all over the place, re-sanctifiing the Chapter's legacy in the blood of their enemies?

Sort of a Helm's Deep type of scenario: "Every man who can wield a weapon has been sent to the armory my lord."
>>
>>39332384
"You keep what you kill" Applies more to trophies and personalized weapons. Standard stuff like bolters and power armour are passed down through the ages but when a marine is buried it is recorded on a purity seal in his grave what wargear he used
>>
>>39332384
its only the weapons of the Riddick that are beeing kept as artifacts, and we're only up to the XXII

>>
>>39332364
>>39332384

>>
>>39332384
I kind of like it. You can't "keep" it, but you can break a battle brother's relic out of the armory and give him a few more kills.
Thing is though, you can't keep anything from kills attributed to the wargear you took. It's not your kill.

>>39332423
I like this, standard gear is recorded but not kept. After all I suppose, he didn't kill for his Chapter-issued bolter. True relics and personal affects are.

Makes me wonder if the Chapter goes on ork and csm raids to obtain new trophies. Once they've been soothed and purified by techpriests of course.

>Brother Ivan
Known for his lateral thinking and unorthodox methodology as well as thick native accent, Brother Ivan often creates insane combinations of weapons and armour out of ordinary materials and other weapons and armour. Attached to the command Squad of Captain Alexandrovich more to keep an eye on him than any other reason, Ivan's creations and ideas are usually prefaced by the words "You see brothers, when Ivan..."

>>39332469
That's a good idea, a continuation of the "even in death I still serve" concept. Earning kills from beyond the grave, and aided by those who carry the spirit of the chapter forward. I can see this working quite well.

I doubt the Wraiths explicitly go on raids to gain trophy, but if they're fighting and they see an enemy commander with some horns that would make a good spear or a defiled Land Raider, they might make an extra effort to kill the previous owners with minimal damage to the artifact in question. As in: "Forward brothers, I shall kill that traitor with his own helmet or my name's not Riddick XIV!"

I'd imagine that they aren't too common, given that if they don't die in battle then the Black Rage takes them.

The few Dreads that they have are, which is probably about only three, they tend to be more gubbinzed up than a Warboss on a Forge World.

Also they usualy have one arm with a Freezer. the other and is usually either a giant knife, or some other wierd thing they earned.

Such as Honorable Dreadaught Tepes, who has a giant spear made up of a dozen Eldar Weapons welded together in honor of his glorious victory over the Eldar before succumbing to their number before being put in the Dreadnaught. Whenever h gets awaken for duty, he finds a placeto hide before springing out and going on an "impalement spree"

also >>39332571 is ofs having idea.

>>39332594
we already stated the Ice sculptor thing is a joke, they probably stop them half way when they are finished with their laughs.
>>
>>39332384
"Keep what you kill" originally meant you were entitled to the property and social status of whoever you killed. For space marines this would mean a license to take trophies from enemies they've slain, and possibly indicate you could only claim the weapons of a fallen battle brother if you killed the enemy who slew Them. Thus, the weapons and armor of Riddick XII may only be wielded by the marine who successfully hunts down and executes Korraletch, the Dark Eldar Haemonculus who slew the twelf Riddick with a poisoned blade.

This would also mean promotions can be based on being able to take out the enemy which had killed the prior occupant of a position. So if you slay the 'nid lictor which killed your sargeant, then you become the new sargeant.

"Keep what you kill" in this sense leads to the Ice Wraiths being obsessed with vendettas against particularly dangerous foes. These "blood hunts" can take decades or centuries and span hundreds or thousands of light years.

Loving these ideas for the Dreads. Just buried all over the planet at strategic sites and woken up with a coded signal that starts warming up the sarcophagus to wake the Marine inside up. The:
"SUPRISE FOUL XENOS, IT IS I, ANCIENT PUSHKIN!"

>>39332645
Also the danger that a rare Dread doesn't go entirely to sleep or something goes wrong and when his battle brothers come to put him back in the glacier, he goes all Frozen Soul. Maybe there's a wandering solitary Frozen Dreadnought that the Chapter is constantly trying to hunt down, a game of cat-and-mouse?

I'd say the promotion side of things certainly helps, but it's not going to guarentee anything.
If the chapter serf manages to near-accidentally kill the daemon that killed the first company captain, he's still a serf.
Admittedly a serf who has a goddamn daemon trophy and can probably relax back at the fortress with the admiration of the entire planet of normies and some marines.

Understandably didn't catch on. But if true, then if you give the Emperor's peace by fire, you're instead giving him up to the Emperor.
Maybe all marines carry a single incendiary explosive to immolate themselves and avoid weighing down their brothers.
Actually taking on a brother's debts is a mark of no homo affection and honor.

The wind was cold and the snow was deep, but Brother Prokop could only feel the warmth of his blood trickling down his side. For hours he had walked, his left leg stiff as the Dreadnought's attack had splintered the servos and artificial musculature that allowed it move freely. Nine other brothers had accompanied him, ten souls dancing across the ice as they hunted the Wendigo-in-Iron, laughing and brave. He had hunted before, a perfunctory task to track the beast once a man until its engines might die and the corpse brought back for burial with honors. He would hunt again, without mercy or restraint and mark his face with blood hard earned.

His head pounded loud enough to drown out the wind as he lurched along. His pack was torn open, its generator useless; soon the batteries would run out and his body would be as stiff as his leg. A cough brought more blood to fall from his wounds but no warmth. The beast killed Fyodor first, erupting from a snowbank and rending him in twain with its claws. Then fell Ygor, doused in freezing liquid and armor shattered to die naked in the snow. Artur died next, crushed underfoot. Why was he on the ground? Makar tired to shoot it, but...was it Makar or Oleg? Was Oleg there? Brother Prokop stopped and shook his head, the helmet turning slowly as the armor's powered ebbed and his vision dimmed. He was no longer cold.
>>
>>39337788
Hands no longer shaking, he removed his helmet and dropped it, leaving it behind as he staggered onward. The shelter was somewhere ahead of him; he was sure of it, as long as he kept moving forward. He would rest and eat then gather weapons and fell the beast, reciting his brother's names. He didn't look back. He could hear it over the wind, ever since he ran fast into the fog. He had heard that some of the Wendigo liked to taunt their prey, to play with it like a child torturing a bug. Laughter escaped his cracked and bleeding lips, how boring this beast, who only followed behind him and watched. Coming to a stop, he closed his eyes and fell forward, faintly trying to crawl before giving up. The roar was deafening now.

Turning on his back he saw the ice encrusted beast, the Wendigo-in-Iron who wore his cage like armor. Weakly he tried to reach upwards, to grasp it, to fight. His dim thoughts turning only to violence and bloodshed, to avenge the comrades his tongue no longer could name, to consume the beast and take from it the souls and courage of those it had killed. His arm dropped to his side and all that was left was the gurgling in his throat as the world turned indistinct. And in the back of his mind, a memory long forgotten of a warm hearth and wise elders accompanied him into the dark.

"To see the Wendigo is to become the Wendigo."

>>
>>39338246
How populated is the planet? We're going with strong Russian vibe and Russia is fairly empty, especially once you get past the Urals.
>>
>>39338292
We were thinking pretty sparsely. Inuit-like nomads for the most part, with maybe 1 permanent settlement that cropped up inside the glacier where the fortress monastery is
>>
>>39338299
I think maybe a few permanent settlements, mostly just Ice Wraith outposts populated by chapter serfs and the occasional nomad camp. If for no other reason than to have trans-Siberian railway-esque scenarios.
>>
>>39338292
We figured native population is sparse, with inuit-like culture, while fortress monastery is rather more Russian-themed with Inuit undertones

Tunnels as in Tibetans tunnelling under the world, Good Omens-like? All right, I'll think about it
>>
>>39338394
Yeah tunnels and passages would be cool. As for the nightmare thing I think their homeworld has like a massive railway guild and noble/trade houses with railway being the primary mode of transport across the planet between hives
>>
>>39338394
Massive caravans heading deep underground to bypass blizzards. Fuel, food, and energy carefully rationed as they crawl through freezing, danger infested tunnels. Entire tribes wiped out by claustrophobia and paranoia turning them against each when supplies got low.
>>
>>39338422
So the whole population lives underground? We need to scrap low-tech approach to the natives in this case, you won't dig tunnels in sub-zero temperatures with primitive tools
>>
>>39338432
No no the caves are a means of transport for the chapter. The nomads primarily live above ground it would be off-worlders or hivers that use the tunnels
>>
>>39338422
>>39338432
The nomads should fear the tunnels as full of monsters (wendigos and yetis and marines)
>>
>>39338443
That's better. Do we have a Fortress-Monastery, or we rather take the decentralised approach with separate crypts/outposts? I'd rather like to go with gothic horror theme tunnel-wise, it tickles my fancy
>>
>>39338432
No, the tunnels are built by the Ice Wraiths for their own purposes to connect their outposts without having to deal with the issues of the surface on transport. The natives use them when things get to rough outside, but it's very risky as animals, including leftover 'Nids, live in the tunnels, access points are few and far between and are difficult to open, the IW will kick them out if they're impeding tunnel usage, and automated supply trains have no issues with barreling through a group of people at 100kph.
>>
>>39338472
There is a Fortress-Monastery. There are also outposts.

Day 73

We’ve been fighting these filthy greenskins for what feels like forever now.
No matter how many we shoot, there always seem more coming.
We managed to retreat into what seems like an abandoned fortress behind a mountain passage. The choke point is at least helping us to stop the Orks advancing onto our position. I do fear however what will happen if they do find a way to finally breach our defenses. Some of the men have been trying to get an old distress beacon working again. They say they managed to send a short message before the thing went up in smoke.
May the Emperor guide us through this darkness.

>>39340431
Day 74

I slept uneasy this night, it was if though the ground was trembling, almost like Orks managed to get through the passage and run wild in the fortress. No screams though, so this couldn’t be the case. Dark clouds are building on the horizon. It seems as though even the planet itself is now working against us. Could these be the final days?
>>
>>39340447
Day 75

The dark clouds have enveloped the entire sky, and a thick blanket of snow the ground. This seems to not only confuse us, but also the Orks as some of the men reported that they stopped advancing onto our position.
There is talk about us trying to attack and slaughter as many of the greenskins as long as they’re still confused.
>>
>>39340458
Day 76

I have seen something. Something I believed was impossible. Something I didn't even dared to dream about.
We went through the mountain pass and discovered an empty Ork camp. Wondering where they could have went, me and some men scouted ahead. And there we saw it.
It was an Ork, a single one, but something was different about him.
These shivers, the way he was rubbing his arms, it wasn't because he was cold and tried to warm himself up, it was something I have never seen an Ork do.
He... was scarred.
He seemed to be running and trying to hide from something.
It was then I noticed a deep dark humming. A gust of wind carrying a lot of snow engulfed the Ork. All I could see through the snow was a faint red glow. As it finally settled, the Ork was ripped in half, the corpse completely frozen over.
The humming got louder, and seemed to be originating from behind us.
Through the blizzard that was becoming stronger a voice told us to get of this planet as long as fast as we possibly could. Without questioning I ran back to the fortress to tell the others.
But they wouldn't believe me, they said leaving this post would be heresy and that we should fight till our last breath.
Was it really just my mind playing tricks on me?

>Description begins, report by Plenius Malnan
Nixarteria is a planet of bitter cold, orbiting it's star on one of the widest orbits in the Imperium that still permits human survival without climate controlled buildings and can be easily used as a dramatic example of a complete Ice World.
The planet is covered in numerous Minor Biomes of varying temperature and hostility, notably the large mountain ring known locally as the "Ring of Paradise" contains temperatures and greenery more suited to temperate Imperial planets than the rest of the Ice World and the "Daemon's Chasm" (Local name only, no Chaos incursions have been reported in millenia), a massive undergound cavern that contains a unique ecosystem largely involving fungi. The majority of the planet however can be divided into three Major Biomes.
>>
>>39340977
The two poles are best known as the Wastes, due to the surface of ice and snow being regularly blasted with intense snowstorms that drive even the hardy local wildlife away. The largest native lifeform in the Wastes are small rodent-like creatures that burrow under the surface. The polar wastes contain both the resident Astartes Chapter on the Northern pole and the entrenched foullness of the xeno incursion on the Southern pole. During the summer months, both forces emerge from their fortresses to wage war over the surface of the planet before retreating in the winter months where warfare is near impossible to conduct with any strategy. Underground however, both sides create and maintain twisting tunnels through ice and snow to quickly travel out of sight and weather, the non-uniform nature of the tunnels serving to disorient the opposing force. Tunnel skirmishes, unlike surface battles, continue all year round. During my inspection I heard the sound of distant battle before I was escorted to safer tunnels.
>>
>>39340988
Closer to the equator are the two halves of the vast Tundra biome, where the short hardy plantlife grows between the rocky surface of the planet. The infamous "Yeti" xeno mounts of the Ice Wraiths are to be found here, eating the vegetation or occasionally scavenging from corpses who fell to cold or predators. A few sites in this biome have been marked for possible mining efforts should the planet rise to a higher classification and Imperial industry efforts can begin. Some travelling feral Clans travel from sites of interest within this biome, occasionally making aspirant tithes difficult.
At the equatoral band lies a dense Taiga-like forest. The majority of Nixarteria's human population and the larger Clans reside here. There are plenty of local names for the forest involving local superstition and spirits. An unfortunate failing of many feral worlders. "The Spirit Forest", "Worldforest" and "Forest of the Stars" are the closest Gothic translations of the most common names. I was informed by my Astartes escorts that fighting is often extremely close quarters and sudden here, as the noble protectors attempt to prevent any biomass from being devoured by the repulsive xeno behemoths. A local legend mentioned a tyranid of monstrous size who would devour the largest trees within seconds. Presumably exaggeration by the natives, however to hold off complete destruction on a homeworld of our beloved Emperor's angels of death speaks to the xeno's resiliance if nothing else.
>>
>>39341000
>Local Governance Description begins, report by Plenius Malnan
Rule regarding the various Nixarterian "Clans of Men" is held entirely by the Ice Wraith Chapter Master and Lord Marshall Riddick XXI at the time of this recording. The foresight and intelligence of the local citizenry simply lacking to allow local governance at a major level. Great Clan Meets are held every major lunar year (Approximately 50 Terran years) where any major planet-wide decisions are made by the Chapter Master and his advisors. Many aspirants are often gathered at this time, however at every minor lunar year (10 Terran Years) the Chapter will seek out aspirants at traditional meeting sites. Minor inter-Clan disputes may also be resolved by the Astartes at this point. The trials the Chapter then puts their initiates through are, of course, private to the Chapter. Any logs or documents involving such can only be pursued at their Fortress-Monastery.
The only well-known Rite is the Yeti Capture, where an initiate must locate and bend one of the local xeno lifeforms to his authority. The Yeti then becomes the initiate and later marine's mount and companion upon some form of technological augmentation.

Knights Inductor. And you're probably right but I'll remember it.
>>
>>39341243
I still like the Conservators, Greyskulls and Nightmares.
The Reasonable are just a tad TOO reasonable for 40k though I admit. Need to be more pointlessly metal.
>>
>>39341263
I see them as mary sues too,but Nightmares were good and forgotten. They had own heraldy, own organisation and tons of writefaggotery, i think even more then angry marines.
We musnt forget the Wraiths
>>
>>39341323
They need to be an option for the Chapter Master game like the Nightmares.
>>
Now I want to see a Deathwatch squad with all-/tg/ Chapters. Joke-Chapters aside.
Nightmare, Wraith, Conservator, Inductor... who else we got?
>>
>>39341323
What matters is not if others don't remember.

What matters is that we keep them in our hearts, and find joy in the process of making them.

So long as they are within our hearts, even if their names are never spoken again, then they will have never died.

Also we can bug Blazboros for drawfaggotry, He did art for the Nightmares, so he might enjoy doing the Wraiths as well.

>>39341393
Blood Jaguars, I can see them and the Ice Wraiths hangin out together.
>>
>>39341393
Knights Repentin or something like that.

Is now up on the wiki page as our heraldry. That one is my personal favourite and seemed to be the consensus. It also has a nice mix of all the elements we had previously discussed
>>
>>39341407
Oh fuck yes how did I forget about them?

>>39341418
Reading up on them now, Knights Repentant is the tag you want.

>>39341181
Dis one.
>>
>>39341440
We do have an "official" colour scheme and all official variants I just haven't posted them yet. I have them saved on my computer at home and it's first on my list when I do get home. I'm on mobile right now
>>
>>39341440
The Colors are earlier in the thread, Page Fag just hasn't updated them to the page.

So we are almost finished and just need some more information
>>
>>39341528
Yes. I need to update and expand the page to encompass new info about the planet, add the colour schemes, and maybe make a dedicated writefaggotry page depending on how much we get. There was also talk of fleshing out Hive Fleet Mi-go more and I know OP created a thread to roll them up yesterday

A Squad of Wraiths and a squad of Lamenters meet up.

How well do they get along?

Also I might do writefaggotry about the Wraiths depending on if my brain feels like working today

Nah it's too snowy and the blood angels thing is not an important part of the chapter. I think the symbol should be something like this, but drawn better, a simple design that's easy to paint on models should anyone actually make these guys would be more useful.
>>
>>39341070
Put a single blood drop on the forehead. Maybe simplify it a little too, to many cracks and stuff.
>>
>>39341581
They're both BA successors that the rest of the imperium aren't too fond of so...
>>
>>39341581
Maybe the Wraiths gave the Lamenters some advice and the Lamenters tried acting out the madness of the Wraiths and that caused their bad luck.
>>
>>39341617
Emperor Dammit Ivan!
>>
>>39341640
Eh, he thinks like an Ork, don't worry about him that much.
>>
>>39341640
It makes sense. And at a time the Lamenters were free from the BAs' flaw. I guess spending time with family is how Tzeentch decided to do them in. Are the apothecaries in the Wraiths insane too?
>>
>>39341561
>quick recap of stuff so far
Mi-Go is technically just a little (numerically speaking) splinter. Probably from Behemoth who want to eat some biomass from past battlefields and rejoin the swarm. Presumably the Wraiths are in between them and the juicy biomass.
Tactics are fucking HUGE furbeasts with highly toughened leathery carapaces who eat everything in their path. We might want to have some Shadow of the Colossus stuff going on.
There's also a parasitic broodfather lurking somewhere who's probably shoving tyranid babbies in some poor yetis somewhere to get those big 'nids in the first place. Fuck that guy.

>>39341703
They're a little... creepy. Blood rituals, odd runes and bone charms with stinking bestial pelts.. you'd almost think you were in a space wolf base.
>>
>>39341730
Those rituals probably did it.
>>
what if we had an internal power struggle between the apothecaries and the techmarines? One is trying to stave off the flaw with cryotech and the other with blood rituals/magic. It would make an interesting conflict
>>
>>39341745
What happens when they go Wendigo? do they remove all the frostbite susceptible bits (Lips, Ears, Nose, ect cetera) and look completely horrifying?

I'd imagine that the Apothicares would be a cross between >>39341419 and pic related with a bit of the Bloodborne Healing Church blood ministration vibe going on as well.

WRONG

THEY'RE KRAKEN.

>THE FLUFFE TYRANIDS MI-GO ARE KRAKEN HIVE FLEET SPLINTER. THERE'S NOT WHOLLA LOT OF THEM, PROBABLY BECAUSE THEY THOUGHT THAT TAKING BACK SOME SHIT FROM OLD FLEET DIDN'T REQUIRE LOTS OF MANPOWER. BUT THOSE THAT ARE ARE WHAT YOU CAN CALL A GODZILLA IF IT HAD FUR AND OVERRUNNING SHIT WITH MASSIVE SIZES IS THEIR WAY TO GO. ALSO PARASITIC BROODFATHER IS THEIR ALLY, NO CLUE WHAT THAT IS BUT FUCK WHATEVER IT IS.
>CAPTCHA TOLD ME TO PICK STEAKS. QUITE FITTING.

HOPE MY CAP TALK IS ANNOYING BY NOW.
>>
>>39341803
Probably.
>>39341806
I like it. That's an apothecary's job. To protect the future of the chapter. Even if they die.
>>
>>39341831
Actually I just imagine everything with the voice of Mr Torgue from borderlands and it makes me very happy
>>
>>39341854
that's how Devastator Captain grimsky has talked ever since his ears fell off.
>>
>>39341854
You mean Brother Torgue of the Devastator Squad? That man just hasn't been the same since he hlp Ivan set that campfire with Ice. I hear he's been going in to battle with nothing but Cryotium grenades, Flakk Grenades, and has been loading them up in his Bolter.

Somtimes I worry about him.
>>
>>39341891
Well we DID tell him to advance if no more orders came through... He just stood in the snow for 6 days without his helmet
>>
>>39341896
I thought his ears fell off and he had a voxcoder wired into his brain, he doesn't know everyone else has still got their ears though.
>>
>>39341923
Of course he knows everyone else still has their ears. He's just a dick.
>>
>>39342006
Kek'd out loud
>>
>>39341923
Oh Well, at least he has some usefullness because of it. Remember when his squad where facing some Noise Marines? He just ran right up to them and started to suplex them to death. I think one of these Noise marines even made some kind of moan.
>>
>>39342031
It's just a problem that sometimes his voxcoder says his thoughts rather than merely what he intended to say.
...then again, he might just be being a dick again and pretending so he can insult people. We're already on thin ice with the Sororitas, we do not need our Brothers mentioning they'd "warm them up all winter long".
>>
>>39341803
Just realized something, looking through 1d4chan.

These guys have Death Company called wendigos too, with what appears to be no lips.

Just send Sister Ethel of the Order Sanguine Purity to him, she'd be into that. Lets see him backpedal and squirm when confronted by a randy 93 year old nun who is half scar tissue and half robot.

Sent on what the intel suggested was a basic mission to clear out the tail end of a genestealer invasion on a quite heavily defended agri world, the ice wraiths drop a single tactical squad on the world to bolster and guide the guardsmen stationed there.

Clearing out the last of the stealers was a success, with only a single marine losing their life from the broodlord itself they ice wraiths triumphantly leave the cave system the genestealers had been hiding in, only to be caught off guard by the screeching sound of drop pod engines slowing the orbital drop. After voxing the strike cruiser floating above to say that they already purged the xenos from the world and do not need further assistance and getting a confused reply asking what he was babbling about, the squad sergeant readied his men and set towards the drop zone for these unknown pods.

Getting there they were nearly blinded by the bright sun reflecting off the golden armoured men in front of them, running to and fro in a hurried panic, moving ammunition out the pods. As their eyes adjusted they realised they were looking at a chapter birthed from the same progenitors as them. At first this was a welcome surprise, but then they remembered what chapter it was.

Before the wraiths could even alert the unaware lamenters to their existences sirens went off all around them and anti air guns let rip. This break from the quiet made even the lamentors look up, only to find the assault had already started. It was at this point the marines caught each others eyes. A devastator, looking at what he saw as reinforcements, dropped his clawed and charred heavy bolter to remove his helmet in order to shout out "I'm glad someone got the message, we were worried our vox casters were not working. It looks like the tyranids are already here!"

The Wraiths, shocked at this news sent the news back to the cruiser with the last words wringing out:

"Fucking Lamenters..."
>>
>>39342154
Honestly, considering he's half frostbite and half mechanicum implant..

>>39342158
There's a lot of repeated words in 40k. How many Knights again? We're doing fine. Is cool.
>>
>>39342158
Keeping the name is fine, just drop the no lips thing. There's no real reason to have their lips removed.
>>
>>39342195
we need our lips anyways to hum our battlehymn
>>
>>39342137
Fuck me, their chaplains are called angakuts.
Ours might be Sangikuqqs, but they're derived from THE SAME WORD.
>>
>>39342724
No those are our librarians. As of right now our chaplains are just chaplains. Also in light of these discoveries I'm going to vote we veer more towards the Russian theme and away from the Inuit theme
>>
>>39342724
And every culture inevitably comes from Terra. Think of it like Siberia and Alaska/northern Canada. Similar cultures, similar pressures but divergent.
>>
>>39342724
Anyone thought that maybe we have closer relations with that chapter as a way of building the bond between us both being sons of Sang.
>>
>>39337458
That too.
>>
>>39342876
Wouldn't think so, that chapter is seriously isolated. Like, reverting to superhuman cavemen on a forgetten rock kind of isolated.
>>
>>39343018
That's probably something that should be addressed. Next thread maybe? We're on page nine.
>>
Wendigo apothecary (No eyelids) and a Sleepless marine (Buggered catalepsan node) get into a staring contest, what happens?
>>
New thread time brothers
>>
>>39343124
They tear each other apart. Staring at each other the entire time. Probably the Sleepless sins because he can wait for the wendigo to fall asleep. Even if your eyelids froze off, their mind needs to sleep.
>>
>>39343188
It's someone else's turn. I'm on a tablet.
>>
>>39343211
If someone could get an archive running, i guess i could start a new thread.

Archive.more auto-archives. suptg needs to be requested and voted.
For our purposes, suptg is better because we can include a link to all relevant threads using tags.
