My name is Cecile, and I'm sixteen years old. I already thought my life was odd, what with my parents having moved halfway across the country for their new job and leaving me in the care of my older sister... but then my best friend went and had a book shipped to my house that ended up giving me superpowers.

After taking a magic light power overuse-induced nap on Charlotte's lap, we met up with Gabrielle at a pizzeria as a chance of pace.

I was not expecting to see Andy working as a waiter here.

My jaw drops as I stare at the guy who's standing in front of me.

"Andy!?" I gasp. "Wh- what are you doing here!? Shouldn't you still be in recovery!?"

I mean, he got his TONGUE CUT OFF!! What the hell's he doing working here as a waiter!?

"Eheh..." Andy flashes a pained smile, "I'm mostly recovered, and I -do- kind of have to make rent and all that. And it's not like I could go back to my old job, what with the place turning into a freaking bloodbath while I was in the hospital."

I'd almost forgotten about that.

"Anyways," he says, holding out his arms, "it's nice to see some familiar faces here! CC... my lovely benefactor Miss Gauthier... and who's this little lady?" he asks, turning to Gabrielle.
"This is my little sister," Charlotte replies.
"Oh, I should've known!" he laughs.

After properly introducing himself to Gabrielle (she doesn't really seem interested), Andy shows us to a nice corner booth.

Andy seems to be doing well enough in the health area... that's a relief.

"So you have a full-time thing here now?" I ask.
"As of a couple of days ago, yeah," Andy replies with a nod. "I was jsut a part-timer until one of the other guys who works here went missing for a few days. They were in a real bind so they bumped up my hours and now I have steady income again."
"That's good to hear," I say. "Ah- about you having a job again, I mean! Not about your coworker going missing!"

I don't want to come across as some kind of sociopath here!

"Eh, he popped back up yesterday," Andy says, patting me on the shoulder reassuringly. "Probably went on a bender or something..." he says, rolling his eyes. "But anyways, back to the job!"

He pulls out three menus from his apron and hands one to each of us.

"I'll be back in a little bit, but feel free to take all the time you need, alright!" Andy gives us a thumbs-up. "There's no way in hell that I'd rush the girl who I owe my life to, after all!" he says, winking at Charlotte.
"Eheh..." she smiles back at him.

Caviar pizza? Ew. This place has WAY too wide a selection of stuff to get on a pizza, just looking at this huge list of everything that they offer as toppings is overwhelming.

"Hey Charlotte," I ask, putting down the menu for a bit to give my eyes a rest.
"Hm?"
"Have you two heard anything from your father lately?" I ask.
"I talk to him on the phone -every single day-," Gabrielle boasts. "But Charlotte's too busy playing kissyface with you to give him a call, I bet.

Hearing her little sister's accusation (Which isn't entirely wrong), Charlotte starts to blush.

"Wwwwwhile I don't call him as much as I ought to, I do make sure to at least text him at least once every day!" Charlotte stammers. "A- and I'll have you know that I spoke to him on the phone just this morning! Isn't that right, Cecile!?"
"Huh?" I glance at her.
"Remember? I was talking on the phone while you cooked us breakfast?"
"Uh... that was yesterday, not today. I didn't stay over last night, remember?"

She looks SO guilty right now, it's absolutely hilarious.

"So nothing's going on with your father then?" I ask, trying to spare Charlotte from any more embarrassment.

"Yes..." Charlotte's face darkens.
"What's wrong?"
"It's nothing, don't worry about it," she says with an obviously forced smile.

Charlotte leans back in her seat and lets out a sigh of defeat.

"Since you two absolutely -insisted-," Charlotte mumbles. "It's about the book."
"It wasn't stolen, was it?" I ask.
"No," she shakes her head. "It's in a safe location for now, and Mr. Gauthier had some tests done on it. What kind of paper it's printed on, how old it is, that kind of thing."
"......it's not like, printed on human skin or anything like that, was it?" I ask.

"It's nothing quite -that- morbid," Charlotte says. "It was printed on paper that was made within the last year."

"Huh?"
"The ink," Charlotte says. "It wasn't actually -ink-."

I take off my glasses and place a hand to my temples.

"Cecile, are you going to be alright?" Charlotte asks, taking my hand. "I should've known better than to-"
"No, it's my fault for asking," I reply, shaking my head. "I'll be fine, let's just focus on pizza for now, okay?"
"Sure," she nods.

Over on the other side of the table, it looks like Gabrielle's already gotten over the shock of what we just learned. She's looking intently at her menu while glancing at Shary every few seconds.

"What are you going to get, Gabrielle?" Charlotte asks.
"Dunno," Gabrielle mumbles, her have almost entirely obscured by her menu. "I want some breadsticks... and cinnamon sticks..."
"What about actual pizza?" Charlotte asks.
"dunno yet," she shrugs. "They have a lot of different stuff here but Shary doesn't want any of the stuff that I want."
"...Shary's going to be eating too?" I ask, squinting at the stuffed "cat" that's sitting on the seat next to Gabrielle (naturally, me and Charlotte are sharing a side of the booth).
"Uh-uh," she shakes her head, "but he can taste everything that I eat."
"Oh."

I guess that makes sense. The plushie might be its "body" but he's still Gabrielle's alternate personality thing. Or something.

Gabrielle doesn't actually care all that much, she just thinks that it's messed up.

Cecile's sheltered so it hit her a lot harder. Not to mention that she actually had that PRINTED WITH HUMAN BLOOD book in her possession for a time.
>>
>>39318347
There's a bit of a difference between just killing someone and using their blood to write stuff or whatever.

While there are ways you could do that and keep them alive, it's still not pleasant to think about. Ceclie's pretty much jumped to the idea of them killing or torturing people for the stuff.

"Uh, it's not like I was planning on eating the whole thing my myself, you know," I reply. "And you're the one paying, so..."

"Uh..." Andy just kind of stares at us.
"Oh hey, we just finished deciding what we'd get," I say to him.
"Ah-" he flinches. "Y- yeah, great!"

Laughing with that awkward smile on his face... I know exactly what he was thinking just now. I'm not about to tell him that his suspicions are 100% right, of course. Getting outed to Andy means getting outed to Marcus, and that'd put Mina in a precarious position since her family isn't anywhere nearly as accepting as mine is.

After I put in my order, Gabrielle rattles off the long list of stuff that she's getting- a large Cheese pizza, twelve cinnamon sticks, TWENTY-FOUR breadsticks... Andy's every bit as surprised as I am to hear her ordering all that.

Once our order's placed, Andy heads to the back to get our order started.

"...you're seriously going to eat all that?" I ask.
"Not all of it," she replies. "I'm gonna eat some now and Charlotte'll probably finish off half herself and then I'll take the rest with me to eat later."
"She does this all the time, don't put to much thought into it," Charlotte says, patting me on the head.

Things probably won't pick up until you get CC involved in some more cloak and dagger stuff, but you should keep in mind I was lurking even if I didn't bother to vote for things like eat food or chat.

TLDR: Don't worry everything will be alright.

Thread-1 PGQer passing through, are they finally gone? Is it safe to come back? Are you sure you aren't some kind of trickster spirit trying to trick me so you can crush my hopes and dreams?

Thread 1 FD here. I stand by what I said. I see no signs of them.

You run most of the quest while I sleep.

Yeah, you run at like 4AM for me , and before I got a job I could make that time. now I can only read it at work hours after you ended.

Thanks for running.

Your quest is at a bit of an odd time and there was a bit of a lull between quests, but I'm sure things will pick back up shortly.

Couldn't be, the books were already printed and getting distributed when his gardener lady warned him about it.
