As far as plans go, it certainly wasn't your finest.

It worked. Technically. The plan successfully completed the objectives you had outlined for it.
It's the side effects you disagreed with.

Nin isn't crying anymore- Check.
Nin is happy- Check.
Nin got to spend time with family, and share stories- Check.

All of Nin's stories were about you- X.
Nin's family and most of the moths are now throwing a party with the two of you at the centre- Why is this happening?

Not to mention that your diet and theirs is entirely incompatible.
You tried her leaves once. They taste gross, and you'd have to eat a tree to fill yourself anyway.

The drinks are nice though. They're even carbonated! And a little sweet!
It's as close to pop you've gotten since you were born.

Of course, the prior things mean it's probably alcoholic.

But for the time being, the party isn't bothering you too much, and you're happy and a little warm.

>Okay, yeah, this is definitely alchohol.
>Moths are drinking it. So it has to be light, right? You can drink way more than a moth.
>Escape! Flee the village!

You're a spider, right?
Yeah, you've got the legs for it.

And eyes, and arms and fangs and the whole giant spiderbutt.
Is it magnetic?
No, that'd mean metals, right? Biologically magnetic? Some sort of pheromone?

Specifically, you're wondering why you're buried beneath people. Moths, in this case.
And Jin, because you'd need a crowbar and an immunity to fire, claws, and starlight to remove her.

Someone hands you another cup, taking away yours- Oh, you already finished that one? Well, that's fine, isn't it?
Definitely, definitely.

But there's one thing- One overriding, overpowering thought slowly swallowing up more and more of your concious mind-
Your drink is fizzy.
And you like fizzy drinks, very much.

You will, in fact, invent toothbrushes and toothpaste and godsdamn dental care if you have to- But you will have your fizzy drinks.

Someone is making this stuff. So you just have to find who, and then ask them questions.
Oh, drink-moth is back. You finished it again?
Are the cups small, or are you just a giant spider?

You grab the server lightly by the elbow- Stealing their attention, and steadying their arm so they don't drop what they're carrying.
Forcing your brain to work sentences out is a little harder, but you can manage.

"Hello. Yes. I am Lyra?"
"Hello?"

You nod.

"Um. Wait. Yes. How do you make this?"
"Make what?"
"The drinks! Yes. The fizzy. I want the fizzy drinks."
"The cider?"

You look to your cup. Bubbles. You take a sip, then a bigger one, letting it buzz and fizz in your mouth as you swallow.
Cider is- Not beer? Close? No, you think it was fruit.

"Fruit?"
"Yes! It's pressed and then covered, and then set."
"That sounds very simple, yes?"
"It's a bit more complicated. And we cheat with dust, just a little."

You nod, swaying a bit.
"Okay. Yes. Thank you, Miss moth."
The little server giggles at you, then swaps your now empty cup for a fresh one.

It's good.
The moths seem to be slowing down with the drinking, though. Lightweights! You knew it!

In slightly related Lewd news.

Last night I had a small fever dream of Yandere Simulator: Nin Edition, with Lyra as the Spiderbutt Senpai.
>>
You stagger to your feet, carrying a not insignificant pile of moths with you.
Sheszka is snoring against the tree. And Tiny snake had a few sips, then immediately passed out. Or went back to sleep.
She's breathing deeply, and isn't too hot or anything.

Jin drank and glared at anyone who got too close to her eye socket, but she's since fallen asleep, cheeks red with, y'know. Alcohol.
Now, where's Nin?

People greet you, or slap your legs or skull as you go by, everyone smiling and laughing.
And you're smiling and laughing and greeting people back. Though you don't know anyones names.

Also, is slapping your shell rude? It's sort of your butt, isn't it? Is that a thing? Is everyone grabbing your ass?
You remind yourself that your butt is a spider, and that this line of thought is idiotic to the point of self-destruction, then continue your search.

Oh, there we go!

Nin is sitting next to her sister, sipping carefully at her drink, whispering and blushing- and getting that much redder as you march up, covered in probably unconscious monsters.

"Nin!"
"Oh- Um. Lyra- You- Oh. How much have you drank?"
You stop, trying to consider it, glancing to the empty cup in your hand.

"They were very fizzy."
"They're cider."
"Yes. I asked. I like fizzy drinks."

She giggles a bit, and starts to say something else- But you've already grabbed her, spinning her around and hugging her against you as she squeals.
You settle down next to her sister, who is, for whatever reason, grinning at you like a madman.

What is she smiling about, anyway?
"L-lyraaa!"
Oh, your hand is already in her hair. She's soft. Hair and antennae and fluff and everything.
"You're soft, yes."
>>
>>39282747
Please don't limit yourself only to the worst choice.
>>
>>39282938
She makes something like a 'peep' noise, and you continue running your hand through her hair.
"This is nice, yes? I couldn't feel through my chitin when it was broken. But now it is fine."
She squirms a little in your grasp- not so much escaping as trying to get more comfortable.
That's good. This is good.

You yawn, mouth wide, fangs hanging in the open, cracking your jaw left and right as your eyes start to droop.
"Mmm. Hey. Rie, yes? Rie."
"Mhmmmm?"
"Nin told everyone stories, yes? So she gets stories. We get stories. Tell me a story, yes?"

She giggles a bit, shifting around to take a seat in front of the two of you.

"A long, long time ago-"

You can barely stay awake, floating back and forth to the sound of her voice.

"- and though the cold came, no snow fell from above. So one brave moth-"

You don't need to keep your eyes open, yes? You're a big spider. You just need to rest them for a little while...

"- Flying higher than the clouds, wings letting cool, white dust fall all across the land, saving the seasons..."

So there isn't any problem here, people can talk around the quest whatever they want, its not even as if we have more lewd talk than adventure talk.
>>
>>39283415
Eh, same, but I can live with it, partially because I'm a hardcore lore junkie and mainly care to see fluff and back story over actual plot writing, which gives me an amazing tolerance to waifu warring, not even PGQ was able to infuriate me away, I mainly was following the world setting and reading for content when everyone was fighting over who to hold hands with.

There is a reason most female protagonists have female love interests.

First I apologize for the horrendous abuse of commas, then i correct that to lesbian PCs. Nin being a lesbian doesnt bother me, but i cant seem to find a single hetero female protagonist here. I blame time zones.

We're in thread 93, and still in the prologue.

Is it any surprise that people have already established and fortified their waifu camps? If anything, blame REQM for not introducing any viable male characters for people to husbando. In absence of choice, it seems most people have already made up their mind.

I'm okay with it, I guess.

While we wait, question to debate: Should Lyra mention the whole remembering prior incarnation deal before heading off to ADVENTURE! with a caravan, or do we want to keep that a secret? And if we do tell, who do we tell? It's clearly not something we want John Villager to know.

It has literally zero relevance to ANYTHING at all anymore.

Everything is dark.

No, wait- Almost everything is dark.

You're kind of glowy- The red-yellow-white of your legs slowing sliding and changing, casting shifting patterns into the gloom of... wherever you are.
There's a few things you can see, though.

It's a bit misty, to start.
And you're standing on a web, gleaming silver in the dark.
And there's a moon somewhere far above you, and below you-

A planet, continents cloaked by the swirling clouds.

You take a cautious step forwards, the web plucking beneath your feet, vibrating out into the space around you.
Oh.

The web isn't gleaming or glowing. Not truly.
It's reflecting the light of stars, each neatly knit into its silk.

You're alone here, though you can't seem to make up your mind whether it's cool or warm. Just very strange. Goosebumps across your neck and all that.
You're standing over a shining ball of silver light- a star tucked into the web stretching in every direction. You reach down-

"You shouldn't touch that, deary. No telling what it might do, yes?"

You snap up, glancing around for the voice- Old, small, hissing and clicking. Another arachne? Where are-

"There you are. Thank you for that, yes."

Down. There, on the web.
A single silver spider, maybe the size of your fingertip, crawling across the web.
You blink, staring.

"Oh, that won't do you any good. Give me a hand, dear. My legs aren't quite what they used to be."

She crawls into your outstretched palm, cupped before you.
"Were your legs bigger before?"

"Kaha! Very kind, dear. I'm quite old, yes. Forwards, now. I have a ways to go, if you don't mind."
Your legs obey without a thought, smoothly gliding across the massive web, each step drawing you past stars, around the floating world below.

"Where am I?"
"This is the web, dear. Or the weave, or the rivers, or the walking stones. It tries to accommodate, yes."
"It... doesn't look like this?"
"It doesn't look like anything, deary."
>>
>>39283721
Well, then we're in a king of agreement.

Slice of life is cool, but I would like to actually get the adventure underway now.
>>
>>39283799
"What is it, then? Why am I here? Where are my friends?"
There's the edge of panic starting to creep into your voice, breaking through the unnatural peace of the silver and black world you're walking through.

"One at a time, if you please. You aren't really here. Just got a little lost while dreaming, yes? Your friends are asleep. Right where you are. On top of you, specifically. It makes them very hard to misplace, I imagine."
"But what is this?"

"Fate, I suppose."
"Then why am I-"
"You haven't a place in it, of course."

The caravan stops at a small village for a day. Lyra and Co inform the others that they are going hunting and will be back by sun down.
When it is almost sun down, the trees in the forest begin shaking and a huge monster bursts out. The guards hurriedly grab weapons and armour, panicked by the monsters sudden appearance.
As they draw closer, they can hear a voice saying
'Ah, you have come to help me carry this, yes? It is a bit heavy'
They then realise that the monster is dead and it tis being carried by Lyra.
A few hours later and all that remains of the beast is some bones. Some of the guards are suffering stomach aches due to eating too much. However, Lyra comments on how the next time she goes hunting, she will have to find something that will last longer than one meal...

The problem is you are making a connection between a general race wide trait "Arachne muck up prophecies" and a individual trait "Lyra dosn't have a place in fate because she isn't from this world". There is nothing connecting Lyras individual oddity with the race wide attribute of the arachne, because ALL arachne have this trait, and its very unlikely ALL arachne lack a place in fate because then it wouldn't be worth pointing out to Lyra in particular.

"Oh."
You keep moving, though it feels like a weight is growing in your stomach.
"Is it- Is it because I'm not really-"

The little spider clicks loudly, drawing your gaze back to your hands, where she's waving her little limbs in the air.

"Here, right here please. Next to the orb, yes."
"Mhm."
"And don't be silly, dear. Souls don't come from nowhere, you know. That you kept all the bits that made you you- That's a bit uncommon, but it happens."
"But you said- The wendigo said something like that too, didn't he?"

She chuckles a bit, which amounts to a dry sort of clattering noise as her fangs clap together.
"Oh, the wendigo. Poor dears. They've made a big mess of themselves you know?"
"No?"
"They keep trying to live their lives based on fate. That's not how fate works, darling."

"What do yo mean, yes?"
"They think that fate is... a river, I suppose. or a few rivers. And that they can guide it down the paths they want, or that they can truly predict what actions will lead to what, yes."
"And they can't?"
"Fate is an ocean, deary. A sea of stars and souls. They see rivers because it's what they would best understand. And you see the web."

"Ah."
"Mhm."
"But I don't have a place in it?"
"Blame your goddess, deary. She woke up like you one day in the web, and let herself get all flustered. 'Spiders don't get trapped in webs!' And then she pulled herself free. And made a big old mess, yes."
"What happens, then? To arachne? To me?"

"Whatever you want, deary. Fate might try and scoop you up, like it does to so many others. But it can't get a real hold on you. So live how you want, and the rest will follow, yes."
"The rest?"
"Happiness, I'd imagine. Unless you're shooting for depression, but try not to, dear."

"Oh. Okay?"
"There's a good girl."

The sun was turning from the other side of the world, the web blazing with light, everything fading into blinding white-
"You're waking up, little one. Good luck, yes?"

I kinda agree with him, whenever I run a campaign that involves the Underdark I make it a point to differentiate the cursed ones from the Blessed.

The Blessed look like how the artists depict them, fucking Drow with spiderbutts, because they are blessed by Lolth, however dubious it may be.

The Cursed on the other hand...well, to put it in the simplest terms, take Kain from the Legacy of Kain series as the example of the difference between him and a regular fiction vampire.

The concept of Driders as "Blessing" is something pretty recent to begin with.
It had always been a curse before.
Actual write-ups of it in D&D have always varied on the issue, in some they stay "normal" in some they bloat up, but its hardly universal fact that they always end up ugly, there have been pretty Driders in writing since forever.

Considering Lolth is a fairly LOLsorandom Goddess, it's to be expected there would be a lot of variation.

A Drider will look however Lolth felt like making it look that day.

If she wanted to mock it by letting the Elf remain beautiful and desirable but HA, YOU'VE GOT WEIRD SPIDER BITS NOW. Then that's what she'd do.

If she wanted to make it a completely hideous abomination that cringes at its own reflection, that's exactly what she'd make.

When/if we meet mom again we Need to talk to her about that dream. I want to see how big bricks arachne can shit.
>>
>>39287176
We had a weird dream, I see no reason why mom would consider it anything but that.
Unless arachne do that often.

In character we don't remember the dream.

That headache isn't going to go away by itself.
The dull throb, the way everything feels gritty- from your teeth to your eyes.

You groan. A hangover.
The second of your short life. Not even a year old, getting black-out drunk- No, wait. You went to sleep! Dozing off drunk. Much better.
You've even discovered carbonated drinks!

And now you need non-carbonated drinks.
Water specifically.

You know enough about alcohol to know that it'll take cleaner liquids to dig yourself out of this hole.
God bless your shield and everything it stands for.

You guzzle water like a fish who drinks water instead of breathing it, letting the cool liquid fill your stomach.

And now: Onwards!

Because you don't really remember much.
Moving, however, prompts fluffy little noises from in front of you.
Apparently, you fell asleep with Nin in your arms. And half the town on your back, for some reason? And you don't think Sheszka was there before, but she is now.

Jin is an immovable stone, though she's starting to wake up.

"Jin- Jin!"
"Nnn. Lyra?"
"Do you remember what happened?"
"Yes?"

"So?"
"Everyone drank. And fell asleep."
"That's it?"
"Yes."
"Oh."
"Why?"

"The last time I drank, I woke up in Lann's room, crushing her legs, yes."
"No, my legs are fine."
"That's good."
"Mhm."

You pat the harpy gently with your free arm, before you realize she's likely in the same boat as you.
"Would you like a drink?"
"No more drinks, please."
"Of water, yes? It will make the headache go away faster."
"Yes."

You hold the shield steady, tilting it to her lips as she slurps away, making a mess as she tries to drink to fast, spraying water as it goes down the wrong hole.
"Slow down, yes."
She coughs twice, snapping her head side to side.
"Okay."

The morning, or afternoon, or evening- whatever it is, it's quiet.
And you're okay with that.
You've had enough applause for the time being, you think.

Thanks for playing!

All the dreams would have wound up in the web- The other two were you poking orbs and seeing possible futures.

One was a scene of Elves, the elven castle, and the fire stone near your father's home.
The other was bees arguing over the price of honey, and mermaids lounging in the sea.

There's more to each, of course, but that's all you'll get.
