Terraboulos. An unusual golem recently discovered in ancient cities below the Sgassi Mountain Range, they are initially either immobile (suspected to await orders from their long dead masters) or too skittish to tame. Today, more prestigious wizards use them as couriers, errand boys and occasionally, guards.

"Tradition dictates that, once a golem has been forged, all mirrors in it's vicinity must be covered in heavy cloth, to prevent the golem from seeing it's reflection. Lore states that, should a golem ever see itself, it will abandon it's work and seize whatever materials it can, whereupon it will attempt to build a copy of itself, a strange mirror of it's own forging process. However, very few golems have the capacity for such complex work, and any results of it's efforts are imperfect, twisted and mindless. The golem will continue working, never satisfied, until it is destroyed.'

A trinket forged from the femur of a powerful wizard. Taken by the party that destroyed him as a trophy in lieu of an actual, as he carried none with him. His last words to them were; "May nary thy tongues rest when a part of me you carry,"

"My cherished friend,

Packaged with this letter is a strange trinket I happened upon the other day while in the market stalls of Aezengurd. It seems to be a simple whistle made of bone and jade, but as I saw (and as the merchant, a tribal native supposedly from the Outlands, confirmed to me), it has an aura of magic about it. The merchant made claim to only know that blowing through one end (and not even which end) would ward off evil spirits and bad luck, but did not know what would happen when one blows through the other end. Recalling your fascination with the culture of the Outlands, I bought it with the intent of sending it to you, a gift... Oh, and a word of warning: I have found that once in about every five time one puts the whistle to their mouth, it will try to bite them. Nothing especially dangerous mind you, just a pinch upon your lips or tongue barely enough to sting. I almost knocked over my coffee the first time it happened! Perhaps more odd, the trinket seems to giggle whenever it pulls this "trick". I am unsure of whether or not the item is intelligent, but I should suggest that be careful with it nonetheless.

Sincerely, Dr. Morren"

Xenology and trips, nice. I'm tempted just to recount what I remember from the book, but I'll invent something new.

>Umbra

Sentient lithids that draw strength from resonance. Young umbra speed years underground drawing paper from the movements of the continents, each tremor stimulating a growth spurt. Adult umbra carefully expend a cache of built energy flying across the surface of worlds, emitting a siren song to attract potential mates. The umbra are of a modest intelligence similar to that of a smart dog or a dolphin, but they are uniquely talented at manipulating other life forms with sound. Through either aural stimulus or special sonic phenomena tuned to the resonant frequency of a creatures' internal organs, an Umbra can manipulate life to serve its bidding. Were they a smarter race, the Umbra could rule worlds, but ruled by hunger these black spheres are simply content to command cattle to rampage and smash buildings and trees, encourage men with sticks to tip boulders down cliffs and cause avalanches, or in some cruel case keep a creature captive and shivering in an echoing cave - all with the purpose of creating sound for the Umbra to feed off. Some intelligent races have taken to capturing Umbra, feeding them with bass-producing machines and using them as communication systems (an Umbra fed a certain pattern of sound for a few consistent minutes will recreate it for hours until struck), excavation (electromagnetic stimulus can severely pain Umbra) and for cattle herding. Umbra reproduce ochestrally - two partners will locate a suitable dark, dense material in a cave underground and for many days will emit a lulling harmony together, as sweet as it is terrible. The patterns produced will carve a small sphere from the material, which the pair will imbue for a month or so with energy until it begins to move on it's own. The parents will then bury the child deep underground where it will remain for years.

The Arcanatect

The bookshelves of wizards, demonologists and summoners the world over are filled to bursting with countless tomes, scrolls, parchments, and tablets claiming to contain the first words of magic, the true names of demons, the passwords of forbidden ways, the lies in the hearts of men, and a thousand other esoteric secrets besides. All of these works are but scraps, copies of copies and incomplete reflections of the Arcanatect, the Original book of Ultimate knowledge. Written by Ur in the airless void of the heavens before the whisps of dust drifted into being, it contains every possible piece of information that exists and ever will exist. However, it is entirely indecipherable in its present state, things like grammar, letters or the concept of linear thought not existing at the time of its writing, and over it's lifetime it has been believed to be a coded map, insane scribblings, and a piece of uninspired, if visually interesting modern art. Presently, it is on the bookshelf of a second hand book store in Bristol, wedged between a Mazda6 owners guide and a dog-eared copy of 'The Fifth Elephant'.

In the early days of mindjacking into the Internet, it was terribly strenuous to do so as the sensory feedback was chaotic, at best. For most, accessing the Internet sounded and felt like the user was wading through static. But soon enough, programmers and engineers were able to make the Internet at least a little more palatable and a lot less traumatic to mindjack into.

Of course, this proved to be a whole new vector for cybercriminals to lure the unwitting into their traps. One early entry into the new field of "sensory cybercrime" was a seemingly innocent cursor skin that a user would send to select their information. Little did these users know that the Glove app was actually a way for the criminals to let the users do all their dirty work in retrieving all the data they wanted, and for the users to take the blame.

First known recording relating to subject, archived March 9th, 1988:

"Then what the hell am I supposed to do with it? The second it makes its way into a folder it completely locks itself, I had to use a program to set every damn password it could just to open it again. I mean yeah, it didn't take too long, the password turned out to be just four numbers. Hell, the code was even on the picture itself... I mean, it WAS on the picture earlier.
Okay, I found it a week ago, thought it would make a neat album cover if you messed with the contrast a little. When I opened it in paint or whatever it sorta' froze for a minute and the hand was inverted. Not the picture itself, all that weird distortion looked exactly the same, just the hand part. After that the folder was locked and I needed a code by calling some address, like they seriously thought I was gonna buy the damn thing.
Look, you're pretty good with computers and rams or whatever, just tell me how it get rid of it. The computer keeps crashing when I try to delete it, and moving it to those memory stick things does the same damn thing.
...You'll archive it? The hell does that mean? Just tell me how to get rid of it, every time I start up this old piece of shit there's a copy of it in another folder, and then that one gets locked too.
The number? There aren't any numbers on it anymore, I ju- Wait, hold it, there's some right now. Uh... There's a 3, a 9 and two 8s. How the hell is that supposed to help?
...Hello? You still there? This piece of shit broadband..."

The ancient Chromen race desired one thing above all else: a catalogue of all things. Efficiency, knowledge, and punctuality were the traits that they considered holy, and their greatest sins were ignorance and laziness.

To this end, they constructed a vast underground set of machines, meant to record and keep track of everything that happened on the surface, logging all events and the time that they happened at. At the centre of this great machine was a statue of their god, Tockus.

>Patricia, guest of dukes
Living in the zenith of a lost age, this aristocratic socialite gained the affection of a prodigious scholar, one on the cusp of achieving great fortune and status for his work. His work was aimed at preserving the state of artifacts for museum display, but her faulty grasp on his intent of looking into the past led her to recklessly configure the device in an attempt to send herself backwards in time.

Once in a state of unbeknownst slowness, no one dared try reverse the mess of a spell she kludged together for fear of liability. She was a mere novelty by the time her civilization crumbled around her. Wakened by an aspiring cleric mistaking her state as an unholy curse, she thought her plan to defy causality a success even as knights took her gagged to court. The local authorities baffled so, they chose to defer her to the capital.

As she gave more accounts of her own time, some at the court found her tales reminiscent of those of raiding an old fort long lost to avalanche. Further evidence from sites in the area soon proved what befell her, and accusations of her madness were withdrawn. It was still found, however, that she had but weak politeness in the presence of royalty, accostumed instead to a a dabauched mercantile elite.

Forgiven as a woman of a barbarous land, she was nontheless sent away from the King's presence. With little but a quick tongue and vast but often limited knowledge of the techniques used by her long dead peers, she quickly gained favor with the children of lesser nobles who beared to take her in. Even today students look to her for advice on how to pass notes invisibly through air as a diversion from their studies.

I should probably work more on my brevity.

>Luxogon, Warlord of the Void
In the grand history of the world, the People have grown out of nothingness. They have survived, tamed, and ultimately left their world. They left their world to explore the vastness of the worlds outside of their own. They made great discoveries. They waged terrible wars. They forged eternal friendships. And in all, the People have become one with the galaxy they journeyed.

What the People learned at the end of their journey was truly crushing. The galaxy is a weapon of war, cultivated throughout the epochs merely to be used and discarded.

That is when they witnessed the impossibly large hands carefully cradling the galaxy, and the smoldering eyes of the Warlord himself gauging its readiness for combat. The People vowed never to let their history, and the histories of those they crossed along the way be formed in vain. They would set out to rally the many folk of the galaxy to stand up to this terrible tyrant with the heart of a black hole.

Acts as a direct link to the deity, Zulthon, and what it sees, he sees. Communicates psychically.

Fortunately, it can only see physical things. A simple invisibility spell can thwart its notice.

Oh, that thing? I found it back in '97 while I was doing anthropological work in Indonesia. Some associates and I were island hopping chasing a lead about the Java Men, some of the earliest inhabitants of the region.

We found this thing instead inside a small temple on one of the unnamed islands in Maluku. carbon dating on some of the stones there placed it back billions of years, long before the Java Men, or anybody else for that matter, were ever known to have existed. Take a closer look at it. See how clean it is? That's exactly how it looked when we found it in the temple. The stones in the ceiling were crumbling, the whole place was exposed to the elements for God knows how long but here this thing was sitting on an altar in the middle of the room without a speck of dust on it, immaculate as the day is was made.

I took it back to my apartment in Bali to examine it. It felt heavy, like there was something inside of it, but there didn't seem to be any way to open the thing up to find out. I spent hours trying but I was so tired from the day's travel I ended up falling asleep at my desk.

I woke up in the middle of the night to a quiet humming. The thing was open and inside of it was this swirling blue-white orb that seemed to be emitting a pale light. The room was freezing, almost like the orb was sucking the warmth out of the air. I reached out to touch it, my hands getting colder as they neared the orb but the thing snapped shut before I could touch it. Probably for the best, I didn't notice until the sun came up that the tips of my fingers were black from frostbite.

I'll spare you the details on how I smuggled the thing back to the States but what I will tell you is that it hasn't opened again since that night in Bali. I can't say I have a problem with that.

Suffering and cutting the body with knives or chains (matam) was banned by the Shi'a marja Ali Khamenei, Supreme Leader of Iran and by Hezbollah in Lebanon. Other marjas like Mohammad al-Husayni al-Shirazi promote hemic flagellation rituals as a way of preserving the revolution of Imam al-Husayn.

On Ashura, some Shi'a observe mourning with blood donation which is called "Qame Zani" and flailing.[42]

Certain traditional flagellation rituals such as Talwar zani (talwar ka matam or sometimes tatbir) use a sword. Other rituals such as zanjeer zani or zanjeer matam involve the use of a zanjeer (a chain with blades).[43]

These religious customs show solidarity with Husayn and his family. Through them, people mourn Husayn's death and regret the fact that they were not present at the battle to fight and save Husayn and his family.

Racial prejudices began to flare up almost immediately upon the discovery of the first sentient mutant creatures. Decades of scrapping amongst the ruins while being hunted by radiation twisted creatures had left a bad taste in the collective human mouth for anything non-Homo-Sapien.

Despite what a scavver or a settler might tell you most Insectoids are just as intelligent as a Dog-man or Ape-man. In fact, they've been forcefully evolved to be arguably more intelligent due to their frequent targeting by human groups. Where other Sapients have barely entered the classical age in terms of metal working and scavenging, the Insectoids have breached the medieval period and are coming up rather quickly on their own renaissance.

The Lady Vekna of the newly formed Azure house was simultaneously a enormous success story, as well as a horrifying portent.

Her meteoric rise through the ranks of a Great House from literal serfdom gave the population hope, hope that placated them not rebel, while also showing the House-men that "lower folk" could be properly socialized for their circles.

Despite this those in the know were deeply disconcerted by her prominence in the media. It was something of an open secret that she had bound a demon to herself to achieve her almost savant like powers. They worry that if it ever got out they would quickly be crushed under a tidal wave of lower class applicants who have infused their souls with volatile demons.

The stature looked mysterious. Its eyes stared right me. I looked behind me, and noticed two marble feet sculpted from the ground. Must've been that... I felt forced to look back at the sculpted godess. She looked fornlorn, her clear white skin defiled by wind and weather to be cracked and grey. I catiously took a step forwards, walking towards her as I looked at her eyes. She looked so.. Real. She had that glint a few inquisitive Humans got. Then, they suddenly started burning. I didn't jump back, I just twitched nervously, watching the purplish red flames dance in her manmade irises. Completely enamored, I did nothing but stare as the flame spread to the white of her marble eyes, and then started smoking the same magic substance, it following the wind.
Before my very eyes, the golem awoke, and I felt the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end as she opened her mouth to speak, but no words came out.

Guilt has no place when one is dealing with their ilk. As Jones started directing the others, aiding in the dismantling process of the bunker, I knelt over his prone form, and plucked the medal from his chest. One bit of what seemed to be genuine frippery amid the cheap reproductions. I snorted, throwing it into the dustbin, amid the leavings from several dozen emptied-out ashtrays. Faerie ruins are a feature of the landscape that everyone has long since gotten used to. They apparently grow out of the ground like mushrooms in isolated areas, pre-ruined; they don't decay as long as they're periodically observed, but with no company but beasts they collapse back into loose earth within a couple of decades.
Some have been patched up and inhabited, by people taking advantage of the ready-made structures; the ruins have no objection to this, and such communities tend to be quietly prosperous. These villages tend to turn insular and weird after a couple of generations, although not offensively so.
Attempting to destroy a set of faerie ruins before it wants to be destroyed is not good for your health.

Maybe he didn't die that night. Maybe, but probably not.

Here we all lie in a heap, in the greatest misery imaginable. The men here, half dead with hunger and neglect, don't have the energy to complain anymore. Some just cry in silence, like women. Others have gone nearly mad and no longer respond to my orders.

This war is the house of the great god pain. Its here that he devises his tortures for young, unsuspecting men.

Every soldier sees himself as a condemned man.

Scrap Wastes Sawruder Magus.

The Sawriders have long lived in the Scrap wastes, as the piles upon piles of discarded devices, metal pieces and other assorted knicknacks give plenty of material for an aspiring tinkerer.

This particular image depicts the Sawrider's Magus, quite possibly en route to gather rare ingredients for yet another spell. While Sawriders are generally benevolent, and prone to assist lost wanderers out of the Wastes, it is hazardous to challenge one, and even more hazardous to challenge a Sawrider Magus, due to their skill in both close combat, sawplay and odd, mechanism-based magic.

Luis gasped as he ordered his men to catch up with the island. Looking at the map, in his hand, he memorized the location for where it should be. Man, when he got back to Portugal, he'd be a rich man! A moving Island-Ship! He ordered his men to dock on the isle, and they oobeyed, as overcome with greed as he himself was. The ship made a very bad sound, but did move with the isle even when the sails were down. So, they were docked! Luis stepped on the lush ground, and kissed it. Home sweet home! Damn, he'd build a castle on the spot too!

The ancient artefact dubbed the Brazen Horse was forged by the legendary dwarven kings of old in a desperate attempt to stop the relentless advance of the goblin hordes. The horse is suspected to emit bewitching noises, enchanted with the combined effect of a siren's song and a dancing curse - no one who has heard it's song retained the sanity to write his tale. Nonetheless, ever since the goblins stumbled upon its mighty form in an abandoned mountain village, their armies have been locked down in an everlasting rave, the trance-enducing sickness of which unmatched by any other the Worlds have ever witnessed before.

>The red mist plague

Of the many horrid diseases that spread from the rotwood swamps, the red mist plague has caused more death and chaos than any other. The plague spreads in the mist-clouds of the swamps, infecting all that breathe it. It then manifests first as hallucinations and errant thougts of violence and then as a red haze in the victims eyes as he attacks anyone and anything with the rage of demon often only stopping when killed or dying when his heart literally bursts inside his chest.

The plague infects any living being capable of sentient thought and only one being has ever survived the plague. The survivor a goblin shaman from a tribe in rotwood was found unconscious in burnt village. When he awoke he immediatly began raving about the "Dred Shroom" and then tore out his own windpipe as if something was stopping him from breathing.

It is still unknown what if anything created the plague but it has been dicovered that before the first recorded instance of the plague, that being the the thirteen madmen that single handedly destroid the down of whitelake some fifty years ago, there was a small religious group dedicated to the god of joy and feast: Salanneh.

The presence of a newly spawned Vexitrides is marked by displays like this one. A fresh Vexitrides is still uncertain of its own manipulatory powers, and will seek to test and improve them with increasingly elaborate acts. A Vexitrides testing its powers is benign, and will leave everything as it found it, but is still cause for concern; once it feels confident enough in its abilities, it will embark on its true mission. The apparent disappearance of a Vexitrides is a sign that somewhere, all hell is about to break loose.

The Earl of Olgad was well known to be very protective of his keep and the treasures within. His paranoia saw all the guards he hired sacked, as the Earl believed they were either too incompotent to protect his keep from thieves (not that any ever arrived) or were themselves planning to steal from him.

In the end, the only one who the Earl trusted to protect the citadel was himself. This ultimately lead to the deal he struck with a mysterious sorcerer of great power.

The Earl now wanders his former lands, quite content that his keep is finally in a safe place.

Some psionics found in the Confederacy possess a different form of telepathy. They are able to communicate with animals to an alarmingly efficient rate, at times with almost zero loss of meaning between man and animal. Some of these "animagi" are capable of meeting whims with creatures from any world, while others are restricted to a specific kind of creature. While most psionics are of extremely varying power levels, this kind of telepathic communication is found in GRADE CHARLIE or better.

A particular GRADE CHARLIE psionic plagued a city-colony for years, manipualting the planet's equivalent to crows to serve his own ends. Known as "The Crow," it was rumored he was able to transfer his consciousness between groups and remotely direct their intentions from several miles away. Some called him a vigilante, while the ECMF and Black Scribes both agreed that his actions were endangering to the common man.

After an incident where he used his powers to down an ECMF gunship chasing bank robbers and cause numerous fatalities as it careened into a habspire, "The Crow" was classified as a threat to the population of the colony. The Black Scribes quietly took it upon themselves to see this threat eliminated. In forty-eight hours, the mysterious "Crow" was found with a gaping hole in his chest, and thousands of dead crows surrounding his corpse. Autopsy results showed his psi-node, the organ responsible for his powers, had overloaded and caused irreparable damage to his brain. The wound in his chest (or his lack of chest due to wound) was caused by an anti-materiel rifle.

The Black Scribes neither claim nor deny any involvement. An animagi classified as a threat by the Black Scribes lives an extremely short life, so most animagi live quiet lives on backwater agricultural colonies, aiding animal husbandry.

The Redaragr are a race of highly dangerous individuals. They live in the undergrounds of a a priori sterile world, hence why they were left undiscovered for centuries by the rest of the galaxy.
Behind their calm appearance, they are fiercy warriors by nature. They fight using their Kardifr, staves that have the ability to shoot highly concentred energy blast. Their warriors vow to sacrifice their life to protect their people, and have to go through a ritual that make them fuse with their armor, made from a unique metal only found on the deepest mines of their planet.
Since they acquired the technology for space travel, they are often hired as mercenaries, though they never showed any will for conquest.

Hi everyone.
Melonthony Lemontano here, the internet's busiest music nerd, and it's time for a review, of the new Plants in Pants album, Plants in Pants.
After dropping his critically-acclaimed 2010 mix tape "Mean n Green", Houston-based cactus rapper Prickly Mayne was joined by his long-time friend and producer Lil Rosebud, as well as Leafface, another big name in the underground botanic rap scene of Houston.
This is their first LP and so far they're off to a very promising start; this album really breathes new life into the botanic rap genre, with some really hard-hitting tracks such as "Sow and Reap", which features this jangly, funky clarinet lead combined with some heavy, crushing trap-influenced beats, and this unique combination of acoustic woods with modern, tightly-produced beats is something you'll find a lot on this LP. For instance the track "roots" has this really odd blend of pounding industrial drums and oboe leads that create a very strong effect.
There are also some politically-engaged tracks such as "Veggies are Violence" and "Thorn in ur side" that are full of really sharp commentaries about the treatment of vegetables in our society, which is something very few rappers out there have tackled. There's a lot of very clever lines in there such as "rollin leather smokin skinflakes and getting high on your cold sweat" that aren't what you'd expect from them.
However I don't really feel that the tracks here really play together really well, not that they're very jarring, but they end up seeming a little redundant. I also think that they could use some more daring instrumentals and maybe some features to add some momentum to what is otherwise a very consistent but even album.
I'm feeling a strong 7, to a light 8, on this thing, tran-
-SITION if you've given this album a listen, what did you think of it? Did you love it? Hate it? Why? What do you think I should review next? and, that's it. Melonthony Lemontano. Plants in Pants. Forever.

Originally this device was a state of the art ship based medical system, designed not only to heal people but to bring them to their optimal state.
One day the ship that held the medical system got stuck in a strange electrical storm. The systems main computer got overloaded and it's protocols were corrupted. The system now hunts down humans, taking their most optimal parts and incorporating it in it's design.

>The Bot Scrapyard
Once, upon years back, this first batch of androids could be seen on every corner of the main cities. Caretakers, gardeners, bodyguards, all of them had a purpose for their owners.
But it was rather short lived, since, in every following batch, every little tidbit of their models was being upgraded, from body resilience to AI, even their overall price fell if you were to trade in your old ones.
The company which gathered these androids decided to dump them on a bleak wasteland and order their deactivation and scrap some for parts.
And there they lie, standing still, waiting, rusting, awaiting for someone to give them a new purpose.

They say, hundreds of years ago, a sapling was planted in front of the Courthouse specifically for hangings. After every hanging, they'd bury the body near the tree as a reminder. If the city ever had filled the trees roots with bodies and blood, they'd know their bloody past by the flourishing of the tree.

Its been centuries since she was planted, and decades since last the tree had a meal. But now more seem to be coming. Laws are broken all the time. and the hangman's tree, she'll welcome 'em all into her waiting roots. Its the least she could do, to such a kindly picked and hearty meal.

"At 9am yesterday, a pair of children in southern Wisconsin were able to take control of one of the feral robots roaming the area since the Contraction. The children had control of the robot for two hours before being stopped by local police. No people were harmed or property damaged, but that a pair of children were able to succeed where the Wisconsin provisional government has had so little progress in its attempts to clear the area of lingering rogues demonstrates just how 'provisional' it has become.
Now to Jeff, with the weather."

Hell, I've been here years and I still sometimes think that. But no. No, the fortress isn't floating over the planet. The planet is floating over it. Or orbiting around it, rather, tidally-locked to it so one side always faces the eye.
And it is an eye. And don't think that by going around to the other side of the planet you'll escape its gaze.

No two of the Cavity's war-machines were identical, 'designed' as they were by semi-randomized algorithms, but all were intended to be disconcerting and demoralizing to the mostly-human forces that opposed them. This policy had mixed results- sometimes the psychological effect of a horde of utterly disparate and universally terrifying machines were sufficient to make human regiments break and run. But for the most part, it simply complicated logistics and resulted in sub-par weapons. This particular machine, for example, while certainly hideous in appearance is nearly useless as an actual weapon of war; its tiny feet make it hard for it to maintain balance even while at rest, and its claws, while capable of shredding ballistic fabric like cardboard, do not compensate for the total lack of integrated ranged weaponry- or the total inability to manipulate other equipment. The Cavity switched over to more conventional design processes in the closing months of the outbreak, but by then it was simply too late.

The Madaraki was a hospital ship; cutting-edge, top-of-the-line, specializing in all the medical weirdness a whole galaxy could throw up. Then it got hit by a variant of the Mindfrag Yellow computer virus, and the AI flushed its biological crew into space and vanished into the unknown. Since then, it's become a staple of spacer's tales: servitors constructed from clone tissue abducting people from backwater planets to perform bizarre experiments on them, then dropping them off, mad and mutilated, elsewhere.
Navy intel analysts know that there's more than just a grain of truth in the rumors. They also suspect that the Madaraki's actions aren't just the whims of a mad AI, but that it's being used by some local power as a deniable test-bed for illegal research into exotic combat augmentations. Some of the unfortunate subjects eventually reappear as monsters on backwater planets, but the Navy fears that the rest are being stockpiled in preparation for a lethal strike on some unknown target.

Those that earn deaths favour are given a small, rusted coin. This simple token allows the owner to cheat death but once.

It is said that Death enjoys to watch upon the plights of mortals with macabre curiosity. He is fair and harsh but willing to bend the rules to the few mortals that can entertain him.
