At the moment of his death during a plane crash, a 29 yrs old chemical engineer and fellow fa/t g/uy wondered about how many little details his mind latched on to while trying to keep him alive.

Such as his favorite, lucky d20, flying off his pocket and bouncing around in the mayhem that surrounded him.

Well, he must have rolled a critical success in someone's reincanation tables, because the next thing he knew, he had been reborn in a world of sword and sorcery the likes of which he had always dreamt of.

Now aged 14, our MC is working on a magical thesis in order to become the new head researcher of Albion magical univeristy.

But because faithfully playing the researching and reading and more researching involved on that would be a bit too boring and we enjoy omake/gaiden stories, right now we are following the MC's cousin, Alard, and his friends, as they try to catch a giant spider in order to design a new process for high quality paper based on its silk.
>>
I still kind of like the idea of keeping under our thumb a coalition of spiders and confederation of wasps as well as a hegemony of bees, and using them as assistants with all of the administrative tasks we have.

The tiny faery struggled energicaly against the silk threads holding her in place, sending shivers up and down the spine of the giant spider, letting it know of its helplessness and despair.

"That's it, Nisa, don't break the web this time, just squirm a little!" -says Maurice, the secondary fighter of the group as he lurked about behind some nearby bushes with the rest of the party.

The giant spider was an underground monster no larger than a dog, and while it would go out for prey, it was too big to just hang from its own web.

In the last two tries to lure it out, Nisa, the Honey Faery and healer of the group, had ended up panicking and broken away from the web.

"Try to squirm and look angry!" -shouts Erion, the goliath and wizard of the group
"And desperate!" -shouts Maurice

"That's easy, because I'm really angry with you guys for using me as bait! spiders are gross, and scary! and gross! and scary!" -shouts the little faery while bright tears roll down her face

"Hang on Nisa, you can do it!" -cheers Alard as he looks towards the spider's tunnel
"Ah... yes, Alard" -she says more softly

Finally, the forelegs of the spider show up...

Oh I always liked Peorth. Did Oh My Goddess end already?

***

The spider crawls out of its hole and walks over to where Nisa is stuck to the web (at the very edge of it, of course, to make the spider walk as far away as possible from its den), its maw drooling as the little faery squirms while looking at her in terror.

"Now now now now now!" -shouts Nisa in a hurry
"Wait a moment please" -says Erion
"Nownownownow!"
"Aaaaalmost"
"NOWNOWNOWNOW!"

As the spider opens its mouth and swallows Nisa's head... well... it can't. It is a level 5 monster, and Nisa is a level 20/20/20/20/.. its attack and her defense are just too far apart. Its the same as a toddler trying to punch down a tree.

"THIS IS EXTREMELY GROSS, PLEASE DO IT NOW!" -shouts Nisa from inside the spider's mouth

Erion uses a earth spell while the spider is confused, trying to bite through the tiny faery's neck, just to find itself unable to break loose as that very same faery grabs it by its frontal legs with the strength of an iron trap.

The lair's entrance closes with a thick wall of stone across it, leaving the spider out, then Nisa's party comes out from behind the bush, and Erion takes a spider-sized cage out of his Item Box...

"You did great Nisa, you can let go now" -says Alard as he grabs the spider by its back
"Oh thanks the Light" -the little faery lets go of the monster, and Alard throws it into the cage

Nisa sits up and then stands up, easily taking off the web bits clinging to her clothes.

"I hate you guys!" -she says to the goliath and the dwarf
"Eh, why not Alard?"
"Because! now look at me, I'm all covered in spider drool!"

After separating from the others, Nisa webt back to the manor with Alard, or rather, to the bee hive in the backyard.

A towering structure (for a beehive), it was actually much bigger on the inside, thanks to the game-like logic of convenience that makes this world run.

She goes to her room and takes two showers to make completely sure she got all the spider drool out of her hair, puts on fresh clothes and goes back out towards the manor.

Going in through an open window, she's staring right at the end of a glowing sword before she has time to look around.

"Awww c'mon nana Euphrosyne, it's just me!" -she pouts as a female hand reaches out, grabs her, then gently throws her back out through the window
"Try coming in the front door" -says the winged "maid" before she closes the window
"fine..."

She goes back around the house and knocks on the door, and waits for someone to open the door for her.

Euphrosyne opens the front door.

"Good evening miss, how can I help you?" -she says, very politely
"Nana..."
*sigh* "Young master Alard is on his room, I will let him know you have come to visit him"
"Thank you" -says the little faery as she is guided in to wait in the librarym sipping fruit juice and nibbling on a cookie

After a while, Alard shows up, and Nisa flies over to greet him again.

"Alard, you said you'd give me a reward!" -she says excitedly
"Ah. Yes, what do you want, miss Nisa?"
"Dont call me miss Nisa, just call me Nisa!"
"Alright. Is that all, then?" -he smiles
"What... tha-that's not fair! I want a date, a date!"

Euphrosyne gently chops Alard on the head from behind as she comes in with fresh juice and cookies.

"It is not good to tease a lady, young master"

Nisa gives her a look...

'what about when you tease me, then?' - of course, she doesn't say it

"Sorry nana. Alright, would you like to go to the botanical gardens in the first ring, Nisa?"
"Y-yes!"

The honey faery flies in a circle and then nods, happily.

*** Back at Eldric's place ***

Eldric is sitting on the living room with several books next to him. His mental attributes help him to understand and process information quite fast, but he still needs to acquire it the normal way first.

As he is reading on a exotic boog of Eastern Curses, he sips some milk and considers the potency of slots for enchantments created by each curse as he reads about them.

Alright, I could agree with the nomads and ships just needing money, but cant go with all three. Plus its about time, we cant process ALL that info if we go with more than 1 option.

We can get all three sources to send us books, but we cant process them all on time, so which ONE do you want? we can keep working on it AFTER the thesis.

Well, I wonder if that would be racist or progressive... "they are 'other' so you need to study them with care" you know?

Honestly it makes sense to me, but even if theres not a elven studies class, there is probably some knowledge going around? so lets see

Elves / long lifespan, low fertility rates, mostly earth and wood based magic. Curses are about reducing mobility or immobilizing, typically, with some exotic ones turning people into trees, tho you could argue that is the ultimate in mobility reduction. Since trees live for a LONG time, you could say that the curse extends longevity, but its not much of a life if you cant move but can still experience the world around you. Maybe if we could develop some sort of "half way there" curse, people would find it useful?

Orcs / Short lifespans, high fertility, fire and holy-based magic (mostly shamanistic). Their curses are based around isolation, imprisonment and turning the target into a pariah. Could be developed to use an alternative punishment other than slavery?

Undead / infinite lifespan, no fertility, with some exceptions. Their curses typically revolve around loss of levels and attributes. Could also be an alternative punishment for criminals? you know, de-leveling offenders

Gnomes / Water and metal magic, they dont have a "racial thing" favoring any one curse type. They do have a surprisingly high number of annoying curses revolving about personal image for some reason. Well, honestly, because I thought the idea of /fit/ gnomes was hilarious, since so many short people in RL tend to do a lot of exervise to compensate
>>
>>39242908
It'd be quite progressive. They actually are different races due to the fact that the gods must intercede for viable offspring to result from such unions. Though really, it'd just be like cultural studies. Always pays to know the local culture. When in Rome, as they say.

Orcs or elves sounds most useful for the upcoming demonic incursion. By imprisonment, you mean you'd prevent them from going outside a certain area right? Does the area have to be somehow ritually marked? We need ways to isolate or slow down the heavy hitters to give everyone enough time to bring it down safely.
>>
>>39242908
Damn. Changing my vote>>39242515
to Orcs.

An imprisonment curse would be great to research for anti demon purposes.
>>
>>39242908
The elven curses sound like they would have the most applications, both for immobilizing [ERROR]'s, and for extending the lifespan which would get the attention of the faculty of the University.

***
Having read most of what the university's library has already thanks to Okaba's notes, we decide that we'd like to take this chance and finally pay a visit to our greenskin neighbors.

"Lyann, you're a local, right?" -Eldric asks her while reading about a curse to make somebody's hair blue
"Yes, why?"
"Have you seen any orcs? what with their tribe somewhat close to her, just douth down the mountain range"
"I would not call them many" -says the redhead as she gently pours Aritsu and you some tea- "But I have seen some, why?"
"What ARE they like?"
"Well, think of nomads with sider shoulders and lower foreheads. Some were fairly civilized, and one was barely covered with some skins and carrying two axes around."
"So... we could actually trade with them, right?"
"Sure, they sell plenty of rare materials and stuff that they get from their dungeon towns"
"Alright. I think we'll go visit them this weekend"

Aritsu looks at you with some worry

"Eh, president, are you sure that is a good idea? I have heard awful tales about them"
"Such as?"
"They enjoy being boiled alive, and then come out and they're fine! they are so dumb and tough that they cant tell its bad for them!"
".... that sounds really unlikely...."
"And they really like to poke holes in each other faces and thread metal through them!"
"...I think we will be alright..."
"But... but..." -Aritsu just stares
"You dont have to come if you dont want to."
"N-no! I'll go!"
"Are you sure?"
"Yes, I am a part of this project!"

***

Once we were done with research for the day, we escorted Aritsu to her dormitory as usual, and came back home together with Lyann.

The lovely redhead was walking quietly but in a good mood, with a softly happy feeling emanating out of her as she walks home with him.

"What is it?" -he asks while looking at her smiling face
"Uhm? nothing, I'm just enjoying being with you for a bit"
"Oh, is that so? maybe we can be together for a bit more tonight?"
"i-If you want to..." -she says softly, blushing bright

Ah... we wanted to tease her, but its not easy if she just goes along. Wait, this is a good thing, right? Right.

Now she's walking quietly AND blushing up brightly. She somehow looks so lovely that people stares a little bit as they walk by.

Once they got home, had dinner, played with the children and finally went to bed, she sneaked into his room for cuddling and kissing for a little while before going to sleep. It was a very enjoyable evening.

Alright.

***

Having decided to invite Brass and Python, we let them know with time since they may want to take the chance to do some trading of their own, so they probably will need to stock up on things to sell.

As the day of the trip comes by, we find them to be already waiting on the rockit docks south of the city.

Yes, we eventually needed to have an actual dock built, since we had too much traffic to keep operating off a warehouse any more.

Of course, several warehouses quickly sprung up around them, as well as bulk stores, so it was a quick way to expand the city, or at least, get a new mercantile district.

Our fast ship is about the size of a small yatch or fishing boat, but for its purpose, that is more than enough.

Eldric is wearing a gray coat with blue pants and shirt under them, while Lyann has a long fur coat over her summer dress. Brass and Python are wearing similarly thick, warm clothes over their regular ones.

If you wanted to ask why, its because we have used the fast ship before, so we know it will get cold once we are high and fast enough.

"Hey, how have you been?" -Brass greets us with a smile, as does Python

Soon after, we are leaving the docks and heading south, following the main road heading towards the orc villages from on high.

After today, we will have our own charts and can then plot a direc course, but for now, this is the best way.

"You know, if the monsters were a bit dumber, we could try fishing." -says Python
"Oh? fishing on dryland? you may be able to catch some lizards or something, but most animals would be too suspicious of a piece of bait hanging in mid air with a wire attached to it" -says Lyann
"Actually, I have it on good authority that you could also try spiders" -adds Eldric
"Eww spiders" -says Lyann

After Alard's description through the journal, Eldric had some trouble fighting off the mental image of Lyann in Nisa's place, but he will always blame his old world's hentai for that.

1/?
>>
>>39245592

Indeed, as the fast ship goes higher and faster, the wind goes cold enough for frost to form on the ship, and everyone tries to go into the small cabin to escape the cold.

Funny that, considering that with their levels and resistances, it probably can't harm them. But bothersome things are still bothersome, after all. Just because you don't mind someone shooting you with a nerf dart once, it doesn't minds you will stand still while you get shot with them for hours, after all.

Eventually, the road down bellow finally reached the first orc village, so Eldric took the ship down in an empty looking nearby cliff.

Well, it would probably be bad if he had tried to land on the town itself just like that, right?

"Its mostly 1 floor houses" -commented Brass
"Well, most towns are that way. You just got used to capital cities, man"
"Lets see what we can find. I already want to meet the people living down there" -says Eldric
"Alright"
