You are Siegfried Schmidt, a former guard from the city of Morsland. Due to various circumstances, you have become the temporary wielder of Galadriel, a holy sword which houses a powerful six-winged angel of the same name. Now you have come to the White Watchtower, a fortress close to the border between the Forsaken Lands and the kingdom of Iseria, to train with the crusaders so that you can protect yourself from the demons that might come after you now that the sword is in your possession.

After holding the line and giving the rebel's alchemist time to set an explosive charge, you were confronted by the Lord of Wrath, Alastor, before you could escape. Creating a giant behemoth demon from the remains of the guards you slew during your escape, Alastor sat back and watched as you fought for your lives against the hulking monstrosity. Thanks to Galadriel's new power, however, you managed to defeat the demonic giant, in an amazing display even you were stunned by. Amused by your display and realizing that you are Galadriel's new (temporary) champion, Alastor rewarded your prowess by not only letting you go, but letting the entire farm go as well. Though you felt there was something suspicious about the demon lord's kindness, you accepted nonetheless, leading the liberated prisoners back to the border where the crusaders of the White Watchtower were waiting. Now you'll have to decide what to do with the rescued prisoners, but first you'll have to explain to the crusaders what happened at the farm, including your dramatic battle with the behemoth. Thank Aureus you have so many witnesses who can attest to your claim, otherwise you doubt they'd believe your story. By the Void, you're having trouble believing it yourself.

"...And then Alastor let Siegfried and prisoners go." The raven concludes. You are now sitting in the Knight-Captain's office along with Gavren, Anna, and all your friends from the watchtower. Knight-Captain Laurentius raises an eyebrow, as though he's having trouble believing the story. You can't blame him, you're still surprised you managed to kill Alastor's Behemoth, and in such a flashy way as well. By all rights, you should have been killed there, though you suppose that's just a testament to Galadriel's capabilities.

"Is all of this true?" The captain finally asks.

"It is, yeah." You confirm. Your friends seem like they're having a hard time believing all this as well. By contrast, however, both Gavren and Anna seem more confused than anything.

"Can someone explain to me just what in the Void happened back there?" Anna finally asks.

"I'm with the young one. While I'm grateful for what happened, we still have yet to receive any sort of explanation for what happened back at the farm. Just who in the name of Aureus are you exactly?"

>"I already told you, I'm Siegfried. As for what happened back there, that was...Crusader magic, nothing special."
>"Well, long story short I'm just a normal person who picked up a really powerful sword. That was the sword doing all that crazy stuff back there, not me."
>"I'm just a guardsman. That fancy stuff in the fight with the behemoth was all thanks to Galadriel. I'm willing to bet you've heard that name before."

Did we level due to grinding out demon's of wrath, and a behemoth of wrath?

Need to also update the Hero Points on the character sheet.

Keeping quite on it is going to get kinda hard. Alastor and andras now knows.

We are likely going to deal with the politics of it, soon and have to worry about non demon assassins soon.

"I'm just a jackass with a sword." You reply simply. Anna and Gavren wait for you to elaborate, but you decide it's best to let the Knight-Captain explain the rest of it. After all, you're not sure if he still wants to keep the fact Galadriel has a new (albeit temporary) champion.

"I suppose there's no point in hiding it at this point." The captain says with a sigh. "All you need to know is that basically, our friend Siegfried here is carrying one of this tower's Relics, the sword he mentioned. It's magic allows him to greatly boost his own capabilities, and is especially potent against demons."

Not the full truth, but pretty close. Anna and Gavren seem to accept this answer, so you say nothing else about it.

"In any case, we'll need to discuss what to do with the newly freed survivors of Alastor's farm. The tower has enough supplies to support them for a while, but not permanently. For the time being, however, the two of you should go and get some rest. Daniel, if you would escort them to an available room and inform Wilhelm to do the same for the rest of the survivors please."

"Of course sir." Daniel replies politely. "Come with me, we'll find you a place to rest your heads."

The three of them leave the office, closing the oak door behind them. Once they've left the room, the captain continues.

"As I said, we have the resources to support the survivors for a time, but sooner or later they will have to find another place to stay. I'm sure some will have homes and families to return to, but others may not be so lucky. I shall get in contact with the nearby towns and see what can be arranged."

"How long will they be staying here?" Justine asks.

"We can support them for a couple weeks at the most, but with luck they should be able to move on withing the week."

Within the week? Damn, the captain must have a lot of sway with these towns if he can relocate all those people within a week.
>>
>>39162817
"Now then, if you don't mind, I would like to speak with Siegfried alone for a moment. If you have no other duties, I would suggest assisting Wilhelm in helping the survivors settle in."

The others nod, and exit the office one by one, leaving you and the captain alone.

"First of all, allow me to congratulate you on your actions in the farm Siegfried. Your actions would be worthy of a commendation were you an official member of the tower."

"Thank you sir."

"That said, I also must ask that you be more careful from now on. This is the second time you've been captured by demonic forces, and though your intentions were noble in leading the Scavengers away while your comrades escaped, that sort of recklessness cannot continue if you are to watch over Galadriel. You must remember, you're protecting a very sacred Relic, one which is the key to future crusades. As it's bearer, it is now your responsibility to keep her safe, and because of the nature of her bond to you that includes keeping yourself safe as well."

"Sorry sir." You reply. Time in the guard has taught you that when a higher up chastises you, it's easier to just accept what they say and not talk back. More than one guard back in Morsland has been sent through a window for talking back to Captain Gregory, so it's been ingrained in your mind to accept a superior's criticism quietly. At least until they're out of the room.

"With that in mind, I've come to a conclusion. Due to recent events and the importance of Galadriel's safety, I'm going to call for an Honor Guard to watch over you from now on."

>"Honor guard? What, you mean like body guards?"
>"Is that necessary sir? I can take care of my self?"
>"Sounds fine to me. It's not like I enjoy being kidnapped by demon, and the fact it's happened twice now means I'll take any help I can get."

Let's hear him out before we question his decision.
I mean, Siegfried just got done saying that he learned not to talk back to superiors. I'm sure this situation is different, but no reason to turn down help without knowing all the benefits.

>"I happen to enjoy pissing in private."
Oh boy can we use this line, please? I think it pretty perfectly sums up Seig's reservations with this.
>>
>>39162840
"What exactly would an Honor Guard entail, exactly?"

"It's an old tradition, from the days of the Crusades. To put it simply, I'm assigning you body guards. They'll watch over you and keep you safe, whether it be from spies, demons, or assassins.

Bodyguards, huh. You can't say you're thrilled with the idea of that.

"Is that necessary sir? I happen to enjoy pissing in private."

The captain frowns. "Your honor guard won't be that intrusive, don't worry. However, I'm going to insist that you accept them. I thought an honor guard wouldn't be necessary since you were only a temporary champion, but as recent events have shown, necessary precautions should be taken."

That sounds like a real polite way of saying 'Just shut up and take them'. Regardless, you can't exactly disagree with the logic behind it, so you give in.

"Alright, fine. So who exactly is going to be in this honor guard?"

"That is a decision I'm going to leave to you." Laurentius states. "A champion's honor guard should be comprised of people he trusts, and so I'm going to let you choose who you want to serve on your honor guard. Whoever you choose should be fairly competent in combat though. They are supposed to protect you, after all. I can assign people I know I can trust to your guard though, if you have trouble coming to a decision."
>>
>>39164028
"Okay, and how many people do I need to pick for this honor guard anyways?"

"That is your call, though I'm going to ask that you find at least four. I'm also going to ask that you keep it down to ten people as well, as that should be more than enough, and the more people you add to your guard means less people I can assign to other duties."

"How much time do I have to pick these people?"

"You can take your time, though I'd ask that you have a line up for me within three days. You may want to speak with whoever you decide on first though, to make sure they don't mind the duties that come with serving as honor guard."

Alright, so you have three days to choose who you want on this honor guard of yours, and you should probably ask them about it first before you tell the captain to put them on your guard. Obviously, the first people that come to mind are your friends here, but that still leaves five slots for you to fill, assuming you want to."

"That is all I wanted to speak with you about. You're free to go now."

You show yourself out of the captains office, and consider what to do next. You're exhausted after recent events, but you could get an early start on this whole honor guard business if you want. Or you could do something else entirely, your call.

You decide to ask for her opinion on who to pick for your honor guard, but first you think you should talk to her about what happened on the farm.

"Listen, about what happened back at the farm. Was that normal for Alastor? Setting up a farm and empowering people just to trigger an escape attempt so he could watch them get crushed by some giant monster?"

"Yes." Galadriel answers. You can almost hear the venom in her voice, she must really hate Alastor with a passion. "Though going so far as to corrupt humans into demons is something I would not have expected. This peace must be boring him."

"You really think he'd do all that just to entertain himself? Even for a demon, that seems like a lot."

"Alastor has always been like that. When he cannot entertain himself with bloodshed, he entertains himself with the bloodshed of others. It is truly deplorable."

"Then the reason he let us all go was just so he could fight us later."

"Most likely, which is why I would suggest staying away from the Forsaken Lands from now on. However, something does not feel right. Even for Alastor, it is strange for him to let an entire farm of mortals go as well. I fear he may be plotting something."

"Like what."

"I do not know, but I would stay on my guard."

He probably like the attitude. Too many of the demons bow and scrape and won't brawl.

He probably is curious if we would keep it up as rips Sieg's friends apart in front of him. Afterwards he would rip Sieg apart too.
>>
>>39164950
"About that battle with the behemoth." You start, steering the topic towards your amazing fight with Alastor's giant demon. "I'm still having trouble believing I actually pulled that off."

"You did a spectacular job, Siegfried. I must admit, I'm surprised myself. Even with the powers I've granted you, what you accomplished was no small task."

"Never would have managed it without that strength blessing you taught me. I doubt I'd have survived without it."

"Perhaps. But even so, you did an amazing job Siegfried. Humility is a virtue, but there are times when it is good to be proud, and this is one such case."

You have to admit, looking back at it what you did was pretty damn amazing. Still, you wouldn't have managed without Galadriel's help, so you suppose it's her that's responsible for your victory.

"Thank you, Galadriel. I hope that behemoth was the only one of it's kind though, I doubt I could pull that off twice."

"I have not seen any demons of it's kind before, so it is likely it was the only one of it's kind. There are many types of demons that can reach similar heights, but thankfully they tend to stay closer to Malaphas' fortress, deep in the Forsaken Lands."

Wait, there are other demons that can get that big? Well, as long as they stay in the Forsaken Lands you guess that's fine. You don't plan on going back any time soon.
>>
>>39165741
"Anyways." You change the subject, too exhausted to worry about what other gigantic horrors live inside the Forsaken Lands. "Are all your powers as impressive as that strength blessing?"

"Many of them, yes. Though in truth, even what you were using in your battle with the behemoth was not the full extent of that power's capability."

"Hold on, you're telling me that wasn't the full version?"

"Your kind has many legends surrounding my former champions and their abilities. Not all of them are embellishments. It will take time and practice for those powers to grow, though for now I believe what you can use now is more than adequate."

'Adequate' isn't quite the term you'd use for something that gives you the strength to jump higher than buildings and break a giant demon's grasp. If that was just the weak version though, you're almost scared to see what the full thing is like.

>Ask her more about her powers. Just what would a champion be capable of with all of her powers at full strength?

You decide to move on and ask her for advice on who to choose for your honor guard.

"While I'm here, I thought I'd ask you for advice on this whole honor guard business. I'm thinking of asking Erika, Daniel and the others, what do you think?"

Galadriel thinks over your question, taking a moment to consider her advice.

"Erika is a strong warrior, but she is reckless. Daniel is wise and a good mage, but he is old and frail. Joan appears to be a powerful mage herself, but her disability may complicate things. Roland I do not know as well as I'd like, but he seems competent enough with a polearm, if not a bit inexperienced. Justine is the one I would recommend the most, as she's both experienced and level headed. However, you may want to consider the consequences of bringing those close to you into an honor guard. As your honor guard, it will be their job to protect you, even at their own risk. While they are certainly more trustworthy than someone you're not acquainted with, are you sure you're willing to risk them getting hurt, and are you sure you can keep a level head should one of them be injured while protecting you?"

She raises a good point. You know they can all take care of themselves, but what if something happens and they actually do get hurt?
>>
>>39166401

"What about the people we met at the farm? Anyone you'd suggest asking?"

"Anna seemed competent enough with a greatsword, but I would suggest against asking her, as she is young and has a family to return to. I do not know if Gavren has someone to return to, but he definitely seems reliable, you may want to ask him at least."

She has a point, Gavren seems like he knew what he was doing back when you were fighting demons at the farm. Anna was also pretty good with a greatsword, but Galadriel's right, she's still pretty young, and her mother is already worried sick about her. You're not even sure she would want to fight anymore after escaping the farm, from what you saw in your arena battle with her, she didn't seem to enjoy fighting at all really.

"That is all the advice I can provide as of now. The rest is up to you."

"Thanks Galadriel. If I need any more advice, I'll come back."

"You're always welcome." Galadriel replies. With that, you take a seat again and focus, ending the meditation session.

You decide to go find Gavren and speak with him. He could be a great addition to the honor guard, but first you should figure out what his plans are now that he's free.

It takes some searching, but eventually you find Gavren's room in the tower. You knock on the door and wait for his response. He opens the door and smiles when he sees it's you.

"Ah, it's you. Something I can help you with."

You shrug. "Nothing really, just thought I'd stop by."

"Ah, I see. Well, come on in, pull up a chair."

You enter and grab an empty seat from the desk. You notice there is a map of Iseria on the desk.

"So,what's on your mind, friend?" Gavren says, pulling up a chair of his own. Is it just you, or does he seem really happy for some reason?

>"What's the map for? Planning a trip?"
>"Been meaning to ask, where did you learn to fight? Back at the farm, it looked like you had more experience than just what you learned in the arena."
>"So, got any plans now that you and everyone else is free?"

He should be able to put together after thinking that we are Galadriels holder.

After all, Alaster almost announced it there, in front of the fighters.

"So, got any plans now that you and everyone else is free?"

"As a matter of fact, I do." He says with a smile. He points to the map on the desk, which you hand over to him.

"Do you see this small dot here, just below the border to Galloway?"

You squint at the map while he holds it up for you to see. Indeed, there is a very small dot there, probably marked by Gavren with a pen.

"That's my hometown, Riverport. It's been months since I've been home, I can hardly wait to go back. Been dreaming of it ever since those damned monsters carried me over to the farm."

"Sounds like you're eager to go back. Got anyone waiting for you there?"

"My wife, and our two kids. Aureus, the oldest should be turning eight soon. It's been far too long since I've seen them, I wouldn't be surprised if they think I'm dead by now. I can't wait to see the looks on their faces when I come home."

Ooph, damn. That's something you weren't expecting. No wonder he seems so happy. You think of your family and friends back in Morsland. You imagine you'd feel the same if you'd been trapped in that farm for months. Speaking of which, you make a mental note to ask the captain about leaving to visit them, it's been over a month since you left, after all.
>>
>>39167943
"I'm sure they'll be glad to see you come back. Why'd you leave home in the first place, if you don't mind me asking?"

"Military duty. I was a soldier before those bat demons snatched me up. My company was patrolling close to the border when they swooped in and nabbed a few of us. I remember my wife was worried sick when I enlisted, so I made her a promise I'd come back for sure. It may have taken longer than I'd thought, but now I can finally keep that promise, thanks largely to you."

"You're the ones who organized the resistance. I just showed up last minute and helped get things in motion."

"And fought off that monstrous beast that horned bastard threw at us. We would have probably been trampled under that monster's hooves if you hadn't been there. I don't know if you know, but everyone who was there thinks the world of you for what you did. I don't know what sort of relic it is you're carrying around, or what Alastor meant when he said something about wings, but we probably would have never made it out without your help. Thank you."

You talk with him a bit more about his family and what he plans to do now that it's free, and then after a while you decide it's time to leave. You don't think he would join your honor guard, but you feel talking with him has really given you some insight on just how much you've done for these people. You're sure there are others like Gavren, people with families and friends they would have never seen again if it hadn't been for you and Galadriel. You're still not happy about being dragged into this conflict with the demons, and you're certainly not happy about being kidnapped and taken to some gladiatorial farm where you could have easily died, but after hearing what Gavren said, you can't help but feel a little proud. You've done a lot of good for these people, and while you don't plan on rushing into the Forsaken Lands on some "glorious crusade", you're glad you could help these people at least.

The crusades seem a bit weird. They launch this huge glorious crusades and get smeared by the greater demon lords.

The only one who could stand against them is a champion, and no champion has managed to kill one yet.

It was obvious that a lot of the champions were not ready, and a long series of raids to liberate farms, blood the champion and troops would have been best.

I feel like this is the most tactical option given that we're playing to the Mixed Range/Heavy Melee. Haste is amazing for short term bursts, but I feel like constantly zipping around makes us better in the long haul and we also have Galadriel's magic if we need that extra push in a pinch.
>>

Blink sounds cool but haste has more utilitarian applications right now.

But what if those deathflags were put there specifically to throw you off when in fact he's going to be perfectly fine. Or rather, what if I'm just saying that to make you think it's a false deathflag when it's actually real?

But seriously, no, he's not just going to get hit by falling rocks or run over by a fantasy car the moment he leaves the tower.
>>
>>39168917

Those flags also mean he is perfectly suited to be part of the body guard.

And also it would be a crime to do so.

I think we should offer it to him, to think about after he returns home.

See if the captain has rules to accepting family here.

Don't forget to check for doppelgangers before letting the people do.
You can spin it as a crusader ritual to bolster courage of the rescued after their captivity or something.
>>
>>39168917
Of course.

He's going to get skewered by Alastor as soon as he joins the Honor Guard after saying that he needs to pay us back.

Don't actually do this, that's a horrible cliche.
