Previously, you met a wizard and held hands. No, not with the wizard.

You yawn as you wake up. You’re in your cabin aboard the Ms Hetty, the barge that is slowly making its way down the Kuri river towards your inevitable destination. So far it’s been a mostly peaceful trip, a pleasant surprise considering your previous adventures.

Someone is knocking at your door and they’re not being subtle about it. You slide out of bed. It’s probably Hiss which could be either good or bad, depending on how she remembers last night.
“I’m awake! Hold your horses, I’m coming.”

You open the door. It’s not Hiss.

> It’s Eugene the Yellow.

Rolled 1 (1d6)

Looks like a tie between Eugene and the twins. Odds for the former, evens for the latter.
>>
> It's Eugene the Yellow.

When you open the door, it is none other than the Dandelion Wizard himself standing before you. He's still wearing the eyesore he considers an outfit so you have to a blink a few times before you can focus on him.

"Ah, Cennen my good man. I trust I didn't wake you up. It's just that you never came back. I mean, there I was. Standing out on the deck for hours upon hours waiting for you. It was a little frustrating."

Oh right. You told him that you'd give him back his potion.

> Give it to him. You don't even want the damn thing.

> Make up an excuse. Surely you can still learn something from studying a brew of this potency.

> Shut the door.

"One moment, please."

You stumble back to your cauldron and pour what's left of the cursed flower potion into a flask. You hand it to him with a smile.
"I don't think it'll be much use to you. Sorry to keep you waiting. Some pressing business came up at the last moment."

"Like what?" He asks flatly.

"I had to wait for the effects of the curse to wear off. I wouldn't recommend drinking it."

"Oh? What does it do?"

You tell him about the several hours you spend trapped under a never-ending avalanche of flowers. He doesn't seem too impressed.
"I can do that normally. Why would I want a potion for that?"

"Beats me. Just take it."

He takes the flask, peering into it as if requesting it to be something more.
"That explains the first few hours. But I stood on the deck all night waiting for you. Surely you weren't trapped there the entire time!"

> "Actually, yes. Yes I was."

"I'm sorry about that but there was...extenuating circumstances."

"Like what?"

"Let's just say that I spent most of the night in a lady's room."
You do your best to sound suggestive. You even try a little bit of eyebrow-waggling. Hopefully he'll get it and laugh and we can all get over this without ever having to specify just what you were doing.

You might as well be throwing double entendres before a brick wall.

"Why? Did she have a better stove for alchemy?"

> "No. Look. I'm trying to imply sex here."

> "Yes. That's exactly it."

> "To be honest, mostly just talking."

She has opinions and hypotheses that may have helped. They have in the past. Sadly nothing came of it this time.
>>
> "To be honest, mostly just talking."

"Alright, I'll level with you. We just talked last night. Nothing else."

"But why? Did she have wisdom to offer on the nature of this elixir?"

You start to get the feeling that Eugene has a tendency to hyperfocus on one thing to the exclusion of everything else. Considering that he's wearing an atrocious all-yellow outfit just to keep up with his title, Eugene the Yellow, you probably shouldn't be too surprised by this.

"Yes. She has ...opinions. Opinions and hypotheses about alchemy that may have helped. Sadly nothing came of it this time."

Eugene latches onto the most inconvenient part of your excuse.
"Oh, she is learned on such matters? Can I meet her?"

> "No." Hell no.

> "She's not an alchemist, sorry. I was lying."

> "Absolutely." Time to make Eugene somebody else's problem.

She's a novice, she just has an odd outlook on it. She's feeling unwell and needs rest. If the brew was not such a mystery I would not have disturbed her. Apparently this brew was an extensions of your power. Maybe useful if you refine it? Or you could use it on your future apprentices.

Note to self. Wizards, mo sense of social mores.
>>
> "Maybe later."

"She's probably still sleeping. Maybe later."

Eugene nods, narrowing his eyes.
"Fair enough. Very fair. I just wish I didn't have to stay out there all night."

"I didn't know you would do that. Sorry."

"I'll be off then. I'll see you later."
He trudges off, his staff tapping against the floor as he rounds a corner.

Well for better or for worse, you're certainly awake now at least. Might as well put it to use.

You find Ophi in his cabin. He's sleeping underneath the bed for some awful reason.
"Cennen? How may I be of service?"

"What are you doing underneath the bed?"

"The ground is comfortable. I can't abide mattresses. Too soft."

"Really?"

"Being totally serious. Spend your whole adult life traveling around and sleeping under a cart and see where that gets you. It's a curse."
He crawls out, one hand clutching his jaw rhythmically.
"Now, what do you want? Unless you're here purely for my excellent company."

> "I am here purely for your excellent company."

> "What is Hiss to you?"

> "What do you know about wizards?"

> Ask if he can teach you a little bit about fighting.

"You still got that sword of yours around?"

"You know it, mate. Picked it back up from the locals when we were leaving Tedwell."
He pulls the sword from his pack, drawing it from the scabbard in the same fluid motion.
"Why do you ask?"

"I was wondering if you could teach me a little about fighting. I mean, you clearly have an understanding of it."
Too much of one, as far as you're concerned.

Ophi grins.
"That sounds fun. Sure. Maybe if you can defend yourself a little better Hiss won't have to save your arse every ten minutes."

"That's not even- argh. Whatever."

"Now, do you prefer the sword or the knife?"

"Can't you just teach both?"

He looks at you with a small amount of contempt.
"No. They're really fucking different to wield, aren't they?"

"I guess. I've never held a sword before."

Ophi sighs.
"Looks like knives are your best bet. Pass me one, I know you have two."

You pull the two knives from your pack, hesitantly giving one to Ophi.
"By the way, before we start anything. Why are you avoiding the twins? They just want to get closure about their mother."

The merchant looks down, a look of mourning passing over his face.
"I know. But I don't know if I can bring myself to face them after turning Aina away like that back in Tedwell. And all just to save my own skin."

So he was pretending he didn't know her?

"It sounds pathetic," Ophi says. "And you know what? I agree. I'm being a real little bitch right now about it. But just thinking about how I wasn't able to save her..."

He suddenly raises his head and thrusts his knife out in front of him, holding the blade defensively before you.
"Now then. Let's get started shall we?"
