You are John James Green, mutant vagrant.

You wait under the flickering light of an impromptu bonfire, making sure to stay as far as you can from the flames. You managed to scrounge it together at Hisako’s behest – it’s a signal, letting the others know where you’re meeting them. You can’t help but think it might also be some attempt on here part to evoke a sense of camaraderie; the way it blooms through the dark reminds you of camping trips along the old borders, or nights spent lounging beside the lake of your childhood. Makes you nervous.

The old playground is silent save for the crackle of wood being slowly devoured.

“…They’re coming, right?” Says Noriko, shivering slightly. She edges closer to the fire, rubbing her forearms.

Laura shoots you long stare that seems to echo her question.

“Sure hope so.”
>>
>(2/2)

Jono turns up first, along with Kiden and some other kid you don’t recognize, a scrawny Indian boy with a cuebald head and blinking red eyes. He greets you in his rumbling, disembodied voice, introducing the kid as Gareb. The boy watches you with seemingly piqued interest, the blinking light of his eyes seeming to shift its tempo occasionally.

Soon enough, Julian arrives with his usual entourage of Rockman and Mr. Somewhat Reasonable. Hisako is the last to materialize out of the gloom, flanked by Douglas and a young Latino girl you’ve yet to be acquainted with.

Under the firelight, you shadows are like reeds swaying in the wind.

“So.” Begins Julian, glancing from you, to Hisako, to Jono. “What’s all this about?”

>[X] You think you should be capitalizing on the escalating gang war.

You’ve been rehearsing this moment in your head. Still, it takes a moment for it to sink in that you called this whole thing into existence, and it should be you that starts speaking.

“Right… Well, I’m sure you’re all aware of what’s been happening outside.” You glance between them. “The Maggia and the Triads are doing their best to tear the Bratva a new one, and the Russians are fighting back harder than anyone thought they would. It’s gotten so bad that the MCA are loaning out powered suits.” You pause before continuing, letting that settle in. “But… this could be a good thing for us.”

“How could this be a good thing?” Interjects Hisako, his face impassionate. “People are getting hurt.”

People are always getting hurt, you think. You don’t say it, though.

“It means all three of them are vulnerable. They’ve been pulled into an all-out war. Their attention is fixed on not getting their shit pushed in.”

“Right.” Jono’s voice crackles through the air, a dim, fiery light pushing through the motley assemblage of scarves around his lower face. “You’re thinkin’ we should jump on ‘em while they’re down, is that it?”

You nod. “Exactly.”
>>
>(2/2)

“I’d like to note,” says Julian, drawling out his words as though interpreting for a foreign audience. “This is exactly what we should’ve been doing weeks ago.”

“No, it’s not, it’s…” Trailing off, Hisako sighs, pinching at her brow. Eventually, she looks up at you. “You can’t really think this is a good idea. Protecting ourselves is one thing, but this is… something else entirely. What if people start noticing what’s going on?”

This would be a good time to state the Maggia deal we hashed out.
If all goes tits up, we can push things in the Maggia's favour and use that as cover. People will presume that the maggia are hiring mutant muscle and not bat an eyelid.

We were going to confront the gangs in some way or another, but right now we have the perfect cover to check them out and target the jack providers.

>[ ] If you don’t make some kind of statement these people are just gonna keep victimizing mutants.

We need to keep the mutant fighting to a minimum.

This is a chance to make Public like mutants more. If we have mutants not do anything too bad, and let some mutant heroes stop some shooting human gangsters, we make ourselves look good.

We do need regular humans do some bad shit, but at rate this is going, that should not be a problem.

We talk any mutant with visible powers to stay out of it, so they wont bring the heat, and trade some information with drug force/police, and have mutants be credited for it.

>JJ's face when

“They’re already noticing!” You almost shout it, but manage to reel yourself back just in time. “The MCA are already being called in to deal with these people! And if we don’t do something, not only are people going to get used to their suits being in the city, the mob are going to get used to us mutants just letting them push us around!”

Hisako draws back slightly, a note of shock registering in her expression. You guess she didn’t expect you to raise your voice, not even a little. You keep going:

“All these gangs could be pushing Jack. This is our chance to put an end to one of them – maybe all of them.”

There is a momentary silence.

Slowly, Julian begins to clap. He’s smiling broadly, the glow of the fire seeming eerily at home in his eyes.

“Well, I’m in.”

He turns to glance at Jono. The older boy gives him a distinctly impassive look.

“Alright, mate.” He says, in his odd, crackle-pop voice. “It seems almost reasonable. The Corsairs could stand to relieve some gangsters of their ill-gottens.”

All eyes turn to Hisako. She frowns deeply.

“No civilians in the crossfire.” She says, her tone firm. “We act with care. Can we all agree to that?”

You all nod, some of you more vigorously than others. She sighs, and shrugs, as if to physically slough off her objections – and, you think, some measure of responsibility, too.

“I suppose we’re doing this, then.” She glances over at you. “Is there some kind of plan?”

>[X] Moon Phone.
>[X] You should focus on the Triads.

“Well, for now, I’d suggest focusing on the Triads…” You did a little research on Moony’s little Moon Phone. Mr. Negative definitely classes as a priority target. There’s a video on youtube of him punching Spider-Man clean through a pair of high-rises. You don’t necessarily want to run into him, but you want to get rid of his entire support network. “That said, though, everything pretty much hinges on this:”

Rummaging through your jacket, you produce Moon Knight’s dubious gift to you. Julian snickers quietly.

“Your iPhone is going to win the day?”

You ignore him. Before you can say anything, though, the boy on Jono’s side – Gareb or whatever – cuts in.

“He’s right.” All eyes turn toward him. He withers slightly under the pressure, but continues: “I-I was wondering when you’d bring that up. It’s incredible. There’s a map on there detailing everything you’d need to know about this city’s criminal element. Profiles, locations, typical numbers… It updates, too, doesn’t it?”

You nod cautiously. “Yeah.”

You guess he’s a technopath or something?

“How’d you come across something like that?” Asks Jono, his brow arched in surprise.
>>
>(2/2)

“I work with a local detective agency.” You answer, staying a little way from the subject of Moon Knight. “I can across it on a job.”

“You’re a detective?” Says Hisako, an incredulous note to her voice.

“You hold down an actual job?” Julian echoes her tone of voice, before waving it off jokingly. “I kid, I kid…”

“Still…” Jono’s voice rolls across you, and you think you detect a faint touch of something like actual interest. “How do you plan to use it?”

“Well, actually…” You glance down at Laura. “I haven’t planned anything. She has.”

Seven pairs of eyes shift towards her, and you feel her tense up uncomfortably at the sudden attention.

>[X] Wait for Laura to take the lead.

For a moment, she seems to freeze, and you catch a terrified glimmer in the corner of her green eyes – like she’s been caught performing some unmentionable act and must now face all the terrible consequences. Slowly, though, the gears begin to shift, and she grinds forward. The tension doesn’t work its way out of her, but she pushes through it, literally forcing herself to move.

“I…”

Her posture straightens. Everything wrinkled and casual about her is patted down and straightened out, and she clears her throat.

“There are thirteen major Triad properties on this side of the river, most of them concentrated along Northwestern Queens.” She states, her voice quiet but hard. “Of these thirteen, six are below Greenpoint. Two are on the outskirts of Brooklyn, while three are located along the stretch of land between the river and the Hillcrest area. Should enough of these properties be attacked, it would be basic operating procedure to assume everything along that stretch compromised somehow, and to consolidate back at the largest facility in Northern Queens.”

She pauses, and glances back at you, as if to make sure that she’s doing okay. You nod in a way that you hope is encouraging.

“Successfully attacking that facility would mean eliminating a significant amount of resources, both in terms of manpower and other assets.”

In the silence that follows, you think you hear Julian whistle under his breath.

“Well…” Hisako gives Laura an odd stare, like she’s sizing her up. “You’ve clearly thought this over.”

Laura blinks, nonplussed, and mumbles a quiet “Thank you.”

Julian raises his voice.

“Question is…” He smiles eagerly. “When do we start?”

“Laura.” The Phantom cuts in, moving to stand in the doorway. You shuffle back almost automatically. “I asked John what skills you have. He said that it would be best to ask you.”

Laura glances at you, before turning back to the Phantom.

“I have been trained in one-hundred-and-twenty-seven styles of combat, as well as covert operating procedure, first aid, enhanced interrogation,”– You notice the Phantom frown a little at that –“advanced acrobatics, espionage….” etc etc etc it goes on for some time.

By the end, the Blonde Phantom can only be described as looking decidedly worried.

There is a long, awkward silence.

“Jonathan…?”

You nod. “Yeah?”

“May I speak to you for a moment? In private?”

“I’m ready right now.” You state, inviting a few raised eyebrows. “If you guys need time to prepare, we can take the time. But the opportunity won’t be here forever.”

This time Julian whistles out loud.

“No time like the present, I guess…” He says, in an almost sing-songy tone.

Jono appears to think for a moment.

“Tonight.” He says, eventually. “I’ll inform my people.”

Hisako sighs deeply. Outwardly, she still appears hesitant, but you can see a sort of tense, nervous excitement moving through her frame.

“Let’s get this done.”

“We meet back here in an hour, then.” Says Jono, his eyes shifting along the assembled mutants, a quiet, intense scrutiny to his stare. “We can figure out who does what, and then… we can get on with it.”

The rest of you nod in agreement, and gradually you depart. Julian gives you a playful punch on the shoulder as he swaggers past, an almost mischievous smile on his face.

You breathe in, and breathe out.

I'd rather JJ pack a revolver. Unlikely to jam and when it does, it means the gun is either broken or something got stuck somewhere between the cylinder and barrel and isn't that hard of a fix. Plus a solid full metal construction revolver makes one hell of a bludgeon.

The limited ammo capacity of a revolver would be somewhat of a hindrance considering our super-aim and whatnot. I'd go for something with more range and versatility, like an assault rifle of some sort(both should be about equally difficult to track down, considering how restricted handguns are in NYC). Recoil is no problem for us with super strength and agility, so it would be better to go for something older chambered in 7.62mm, and preferably something accurate at long ranges to make the most of our super aim. We really don't need a weapon for close combat considering our physical abilities, claws, and eyeblasts.

When you return, it’s with Noriko, Lucas, and Laura at your side.

You feel the warmth of the fire and hear the nervous, excited hubbub of the shadows moving under its light long before you see any of them. When you come into view of the blaze, you’re almost lost for words – it’s more mutants in one place than you think you’ve ever seen, barring videos of the camps.

There must be thirteen or fourteen Corsairs huddled together, faces familiar and unfamiliar. You spot Jubilation and Paige among them, and catch a glimpse of the pixie girl's sparkling black eyes, but for every one you’re familiar with there’s at least two more you’ve yet to be acquainted with. You recognize everyone from the Young X-Men – all six of them. Same goes for the Hellions, when they arrive; all ten of their members, including those weird white-eyed triplets, are present and accounted for.

Over the course of an hour, you divvy up your efforts.

Laura reminds the lot of you that those of you attacking the first batch of targets aren’t there to destroy. The aim is to cause panic coupled with mostly superficial damage, driving their occupants out. The hammer will fall further up the length of the river, near 47th avenue.

Slowly, several teams begin to form. Jono insists that most of his people’s powers would be suited to sowing panic, so the Corsairs mostly split up between the first targets. The Young X-Men and the Hellions spread out their rosters to pad out these teams, but Julian, quite unexpectedly, decides that a number of his fellows would be nothing but overkill – himself included, apparently – and assigns them to the hammer.

Speaking of which…

Noriko, Lucas, Laura, Julian, Lance, and Hisako. That’s your team.

You guys are in charge of hitting the primary target once as many Triads as possible have relocated to it.

Right. When the hammer hits, we'll be splitting into two groups. Julian will lead the large damage group, with Noriko and Lucas and Lance. They'll be dropping AOE and hitting as many people as possible. Hisako, Laura, and us will be on perimeter duty. If anyone tries to leave before we're done, we take them out. All time up to the arrival of the Triads will be spent on civilian evac. It's quite likely we'll level a block with this strike.
>>
>>39162233
With super aim ammo really isn't a problem. When you can bullseye high value places that lack proper fortification or armoring it doesn't take more than a shot or two. A revolver would be a good choice cause it's the hardest to damage or break.

Of course guns are pretty useless for JJ because the optic blasts outclass them in every way but lethality as of right now. 5th level optic would only be outclassed by some really fuckhuge weaponry that only really shows up on sentinels and Starktech stuff.

Also you can get some really nice compact revolvers that still have a good deal of punch while remaining hidden without issue. Smuggling an AK under your count is far more difficult than strolling in with a handgun stashed somewhere on your person.

With the Telescopic Vision extra, we could potentially hit a target accurately from miles away (according to Crusty). It's not quite as fast as a bullet, but it also doesn't have the drop-off that a bullet does.

Guns also have faster firing rate, which could mean more headshots per round. I think.

I would say a small submachinegun like a tec-9 would be ideal for him. Concealable, fast firing rate, easy to find ammunition, can be dual wielded, and JJ's bullshit senses give it the firing range of an assault rifle. Not much stopping power granted, he would need bigger guns for things with enhanced armor.
>>
>>39162570
>>39162562
Optic blasts go as far as we can see, right? Even without super telescoping vision we could probably accurately use eyebeams for a quarter mile or more. And the further we upgrade eyebeams the -smaller- they can be focused. You've been punched in the face, right? Imagine that much force but focused over the space of a fingertip. That would punch a hole in someone. We just focus eyeblasts down to bullet sized and we essentially fire bullets from our eyes at higher levels.

I really just want high eyeblasts and telescoping vision, it'd be really nice to Darkseid (sorta) people from a mile away.

the best potential comes when faced with a sentinal horde.

The hell are they going to do if several million dollar machines blow up before they even spot their target? Rebuilding only helps so many times. >(1/???)

Before you leave, Laura insists that everyone synchronizes their watches. It takes some time, but somehow, it seems to ground the whole situation, make it seem more real.

You and the team head out North.

Luckily, you’re not the most conspicuous bunch. Mostly lacking neat little peripherals like wings, vestigial limbs, glowing hands/eyes/hair, and other such mutant-y aesthetics, you by en large appear to be normal human teens doing normal human things… like advancing grimly down the streets, adrenaline roaring in your ears. You’re the biggest problem, and most of your issues are solved by a big hoodie and a set of shades.

It’s nearly ten on the dot by the time you make it to your destination.

The building itself is a few blocks South of 47th avenue, very nearly within sight of the river. It’s a surprisingly modern building – a high rising stack of offices, its outsides edged with a chrome finish and the spacious lobby on the bottom floor decorated according to a kind of Apple-eque, minimalist approach to feng shui. Luckily, the location isn’t residential, but there are passersby, and the French restaurant on the opposite side of the road still has a good number of customers hanging around.

You guys loiter nearby, watching attentively.

Half an hour passes in anxious silence. The first wave of texts starts coming in, and then the second, and the third – the other teams have gone to work.

“Well…” You smile weakly. “No turning back now.
>>
>>39163202
Herc and other superhumans are better, JJ's just really good
>>
>>39163264
Kind of not fond of that either, i want JJ to have a few surprises later on. We can easily ionize the trigger scent using molecular vision extrap anyway, since the scent particles are actual molecules in the air and can be seen by it.
>>
>(2/3)

It’s an hour before the first van arrives. You pretend not to pay attention while various men, mostly in suits, rush inside the building. Soon after, a trio of long, nondescript black cars pulls up nearby, and assorted personnel – most of them flecked with dust and looking thoroughly harried – follow after the first group. Several more cars arrive, all of them appearing in triplets (what’s up with that?). Soon enough you start seeing groups of men moving heavy boxes in from further up the street, the lack of parking spaces having forced them to idle their vehicles a short way away.

“One hour from now.” Whispers Laura. Your gut tightens into a ball of fire.

You wait.

Each of your teammates deals with the nerves in their own way. Noriko chats with Lucas – incessantly and about anything from the colour of the nearby buildings to the weather. Julian taps his foot impatiently. Alvers, the earthquake boy, has a tendency to keep rolling his shoulders. Hisako and Laura check the time almost every other minute.

You just stand there and boil up in your own skin.

Eventually, Laura’s watch begins to chirp. You feel a nervous breath pass through the entire group.

“It’s time.”

“Alright then…” You flex your fingers open and closed, claws pushing through the soft flesh at their tips. “As we discussed.”

Noriko steps forward, spreading her arms wide, and takes on a look of intense concentration.
>>
>>39163316
That's neuroelectrical vision anon, not electromagnetic.
>>
>>39163336
ah, in which case by all means.
>>
>(3/3)

Visible arcs of electricity snap momentarily through the air, coiling around her like eels. Every car alarm on the street goes off, and then, almost as quickly, falls silent.

The lights go out across the block.

Noriko seethes with voltaic power, her eyes burning a bright, electric blue. Her outline flickers and shimmers, never quite seeming to stay in the same spot. Gradually, she begins to feed some of the gathered power into Lucas’ outstretched palm.

And now… the rest of the plan.

>[X] Have Julian lift a few Triad cards as mobile cover while you blast between the gaps with your eyes.
>[X] Wait till there’s less civilians, get Alvers to bring the building down.
>[X] Also clever stuff with Noriko.

The first phase started with Noriko. The second phase, also, starts with Noriko.

Her hair swaying like azure fire, she heavers her arms about, directing an arc of lighting across the various cars and vans parked under the shadow of the Triad building. They ignite immediately, exploding into skeletonized pyres of tortured metal and roiling flame. All around you, people scream and shout and hustle by one another to get away – you hear screams of “mutant!” and “mutie!” and even “super fight, superhero fight!” as the street erupts into chaos, people spewing from the restaurant further down the road.

Those that (for some reason or another) stuck around quickly decide that that’s a bad idea when four of the flaming cars, apparently of their own accord, lift themselves off the tarmac and turn on their sides, levitating in place. Beside you, Julian grinds his teeth, his eyes lit with an eerie green radiance.

You spot movement in the lobby, a bustle of men and women heading for the door, gripping – get this – various archaic blades in their hands. Their faces are concealed behind leering, demoniac masks of white and blue and red.

You feel the pressure build behind your eyes…

You vision turns blue and the air shrieks, a line of bright blue light scything through the lobby. Annoyingly, most of the frantic men and women inside manage to duck under its arc (though you do make very short work of the furniture), only a few of them getting caught and bodily flung across the room. As they near the glass doors at the front of the building a few of them pull pistols from their jackets, and the chatter of gunfire fills the air.

To his credit, it would seem that a lot of Julian’s arrogance has something solid behind it. He moves the (bulletproof, you can’t help but note) cars in his telekinetic grasp with expert care, seeming to almost preempt each rattle of gunfire. Only a few stray bullets make it past the improvised barrier, streaking harmlessly through empty air.

Behind the main group, Alvers clenches his fists, bringing his foot down hard on the pavement. You feel the earth shift deep below.

Letting loose another blast op optic force, you manage to send a trio of masked weirdos hurtling off their feet, but in general they’re a lot faster than they look, and they manage to power their way through the front doors, those more intrepid amongst them smashing through the glass panes that serve as walls for the ground floor.

Because it was not best of three, and rather just a selection of a single roll, what purpose did the first two dice of the first poster's roll serve? They were both completely ignored. The fist die had no bearing on the outcome of our first shot. In each of the 3 3d20 posts only one die was counted, so why not just do 3 separate 1d20 posts?
>>
>>39164217
Honestly just having three people roll a d20 gives the same result. Each d20 is the result of an action, the extra 2 and chose x from y seems a bit excessive.

Instead of having
>12

You keep up the pressure, sending intermittent bursts of luminous force through the occasional gaps in Julian’s barrier. You knock several men down, the constant danger posed by your gaze keeping the gaggle of masks from making any meaningful progress out into the road. A few of them attempt a dash along the street, trying to run around Julian’s barrier, but you cut them off with a quick blast, knocking the first two runners’ feet out from under them and causing the rest of seriously reconsider that course of action.

Their gunfire continues to patter harmlessly off the multiple chassis floating in the middle of the road.

Seems a little like a stalemate at the moment. Luckily, you have something else in reserve.

Grunting in exertion, Alvers stamps once more, and the ground beneath you begins to shake. A labored growl tears loose from his throat and his eyes roll up in their sockets, the thunder under the earth beginning to twist and flex in ways no natural tectonic shifts ever could. The earth buckles beneath the building, its frame groaning audibly, cracks beginning to spread like lines in a map across its glass exterior.
>>
>>39164836
Did you literally dig it from the ground? Might be why.
>>
>(2/2)

With one final stomp, Lance caves the ground beneath the building inward, the tarmac simply creasing downward in one great, ear-splitting moment of tectonic thrust. With a sound like rolling thunder, the building collapses down on itself, the first few levels bucking inward before the top floors give way and come crashing down upon those below, the quickly disintegrating concrete forming the innards of the building gaining momentum and force with each layer that tumbles downward.

Hissing under his breath, Julian pulls the cars back, holding them over your group. There is a sound like rainfall as hundreds of tiny glass shards rain down on the roasted vehicles.

A thick cloud of dust consumes the street, a few of your teammates coughing loudly.

It’s a good few seconds before you start to hear the cries of men and women in brightly-coloured masks rushing across the street toward you, the first few of them emerging from the dust like creatures of myth transgressing into reality. Many of them are bleeding, thoroughly lacerated by shards of falling glass, but on them come nonetheless.

What in the hell is wrong with these people?

Like keeping things relatively low-key and stealthy, since we are hiding not only from the MCA, but also Creeper and Kimura's groups. By going all out, we will be drawing attention we have been consistently trying to avoid. All it will take is a report that a large group of what seem to be teenage muties have started attacking gangs selling Jack. Now, who recently lost a large shipment of young mutants, and who was the cause of this loss I wonder?
>>

>>
>>39165414
>>39165455

With Julian, Alvers, Noriko, Hisako, how could you be stealthy?
>>
>>39165414

Julian's entire group is pretty much all about overt, and the Corsairs are packing some serious heat as well. If people had problems with shit getting loud, they should have voiced them back at the start when we were even considering getting them involved.
>>
>>39165477
By keeping out of sight and keeping it to hit and run tactics, instead of standing out in the open for all to see? The powers themselves are overt but their use and who has them doesn't necessarily have to be the same.
>>
>>39165471
Well, Laura's plan was all about striking fast and decisively. It's not poorly thought out, in the sense that it accomplishes what it sets out to, but it's really obvious.

What happens next is not pretty, though it does sort of remind you of fireworks.

Julian brings the cars down, sweeping them along the road, fire and ash billowing in their wake. Many of the oncoming creeps manage to hurl themselves aside in the nick of time, but others are hit by an essentially a wall of very hard, very hot metal. Letting the pressure release behind your eyes, you let loose with a succession of quick, precise blasts, bludgeoning a number of them through the air, their masks shattering as waves of radiant force sock them straight in the face.

Soon enough, most of the masks that aren’t unconscious are wishing they were, lying in crumpled, groaning heaps.

You blink, the blue fugue receding from your vision.

“We… did it?”

You did.

That is, of course, when the rubble begins to shift. You turn towards the tumbled remains of the Triad building, a “no way” building in your throat, and a whole layer of debris explodes upwards, dust and muck spiraling through the air.

The silhouette of a tall, handsome man in his thirties rises from the rubble, lifting aside a topped pillar and casting it down with casual ease. He wears a white suit that seems to almost glow, his skin a dark, photo-negative shade of back. Bright, neat white hair adorns his head, the collapse seeming to have merely tussled it somewhat.

He looks up from the ruins of the building with a weathered, severe look on his face, and his eyes focus upon the lot of you.

“How annoying.”
