You glance down at yourself, and then over to a near-by student. He's tall, for a human. Much shorter than you are, of course. You walk over to him and grab him by the shoulders, pulling him away from the young Elven woman he was chatting up. You turn him around, and freeze his feet to the floor. “Stay still, I'm conducting an experiment. Official academy business.”

He seems worried at first, but far calmer than you expected. You examine his uniform for a while before channeling Fire magic into the air around you. Your appearance distorts, warping strangely for a moment before snapping back into sharp focus. Instead of the sturdy traveler's clothes you'd been wearing, you appear to be wearing the drab light brown on dark robes of a student. Really, they're entirely unbecoming. You don't know why they couldn't pick something stylish, or just disavow uniforms completely amongst the student body. You never had to wear some shit-colored garment as an apprentice.

You nod, releasing the student and pushing him towards his degenerate female compatriot. You turn around without a word and march towards the door to Demetrios' classroom, manifesting an illusory hood and shrouding your face in unnatural darkness as you slip through the door.

You find that Demetrios seems to be in the midst of some sort of lecture, talking animatedly whilst drawing something or other on a slate stone board with a stick of chalk. You slip into a strange combination of a chair and a table at the very back of the room. It has some sort of board attached to one of the arm rest, you can move it some presumably it's attached on hinges. Odd. Most of the other students are listening closely, a few taking notes on parchment, wax tablets, or writing slates made of the same black stone as the board.

Now that you've managed to slip in unnoticed you take a moment to listen in on what he's lecturing about. So far as you can tell, he's discussing the properties of Water Magic. How it's used not only to manipulate water and ice, but also to heal wounds and at higher levels regenerate limbs. Of course, all of this is well known to you. You learned this as a thirteen year old barely into your apprenticeship. It's all very basic.

You have to focus to alter your mental tone sufficiently to make yourself unrecognizable. It's slightly difficult but you manage it easily enough. Reaching out through the brooches to Demetrios, you start to narrate his actions. {The professor scrawled away uselessly at the black board, unaware of the danger which lurked among his students.}

Demetrios jumps, whipping around to survey the room. A few students shift around, or look on curiously. Others focus on their notes. You hear his voice enter your thoughts, cautiously. {Mikhael, was that you?}

You resume your normal tone in order to respond. {Was what me?}

There's a pause, Demetrios slowly returning to writing on the board. It seems to be some sort of formula, with an accompanying diagram of a humanoid body, parts shaded in while others are left blank. You think it's supposed to represent vys reserves and the process of channeling. {Nothing, I thought I heard something. I assumed it was you.}

You grin wickedly as you respond via the brooches. {I'm in the midst of a meeting with the Archmagos, but I'll see you at dinner. We can discuss ideas and how the game is doing.}

You sever the connection and wait until he's back into the flow of his lecture, then once more interrupt his thoughts. {A student vanished, consumed by the beast which lurked amongst the crowd. How many more would lose their lives before he intervened?} To sell it, you turn one of the students in the back of the classroom invisible. All these illusions were starting to drain your reserves, but it's not like you were anticipating a fight in the near future. It was worth it to disturb a friend.

Demetrios glanced over his shoulder briefly, before turning his attention back to the board. Then he glanced again, turning around this time. You could see him counting off the number of students in his classroom. You can see he's unsettled, but doesn't speak, merely slowly turning back to the board and resuming his lecture.

{Another, vanished into the midst. This time others had taken notice of the disappearance. Worry was spreading, and soon it would boil over into panic and terror. Unfortunately, this would only make it easier for the beast to pick off the unsuspecting youth.} Two more students Vanish, one in the very front of the classroom and another in the middle of the classroom. Students start to talk amongst one another, one girl screaming and pushing herself away from the spot one 'missing' student occupies. The fact there are now ghostly voices joining the chorus from the vanished students doesn't help matters.

Demetrios turns around, holding out his hands to his students. “Please, everyone remain calm. I'm sure it's nothing to worry about. It's just someone playing a prank, I'm sure. Focus, students. Focus.” The fact he's rapidly flickering in and out of visibility doesn't help his case. One of the students near the door makes a break for it, but you use Water magic to freeze the door shut. He starts throwing his shoulder into it, but the door is frozen solid. Others join in but none can budge the door.

Amidst the panic you turn yourself invisible, making your way to the front of the classroom. You draw a knife from your cloak and press it to the flesh of your upper arm, using a mix of Water magic and the blade to sever bone and flesh neatly. You staunch the bleeding and numb the pain with Water magic, as well as weakening the bone enough that you can cut through it with the mundane dagger. You suspend the severed limb with the manipulate spell, watching the muscles twitch and spasm while you absentmindedly tuck away the dagger in your cloak.

You drop the invisibility spell while standing just behind Demetrios, who is desperately crying out for his students to calm down. Your severed arm hits the floor with a weighty thud, blood pooling out from where the limb was severed. You let a few spurts of blood spew from the wound as well, making sure to get some onto Demetrios' robes and a near-by student as well before collapsing to your knees and letting out a blood curdling shriek.

At the same time you force your thoughts into Demetrios' head. {So it had begun, the Reckoning. This was the end for man kind. The Gods had returned to finish the job they started so long ago. The instructor, shocked and appalled, couldn't help but think that he had failed in some way. That he might have prevented this. He shan't call it a grave, for it is but the future he chose.}

Demetrios' eyes fly wide, and he joins the rush of students for the door. Some enterprising students have started using Water magic to try and melt the ice you manifested to seal the door, but you manage to maintain it with ease. This was a class of beginners after all, and only Demetrios seems to know anything more than your average Apprentice Water Vatis.

You just can't keep a straight face, this is really just too funny. Your blood curdling scream falters, transforming into a mad cackle as you watch the students practically climb over one another in their attempts to reach the door. You drop your various illusions, students once invisible reappearing unharmed. Demetrios finally stops flickering as well, much to his apparent relief. Even your student robes melt away to reveal your travel garb beneath.

You push yourself to your feet, using your remaining arm to help balance yourself. Shouting to get everyone's attention, you call out. “Relax! Relax, everyone! It was just a harmless joke! Just a little fun between me and your teacher!”

Some of the students calm down, or at least stop desperately trying to escape. Demetrios looks variously annoyed, relieved, and confused. Eventually he seems to settle on annoyed. “You bastard! I thought dabbling with these brooches of yours had called down the ire of some void creature or some other such monstrosity! You nearly gave me a heart attack!”

You hold your remaining hand up in mock surrender. “Relax, Demetrios! Relax! I just thought I might give your students a demonstration of an advanced Water magic technique by showing them how to regrow a limb. I decided to have some fun with it in the process. Where's the harm?”

Demetrios sighs, and starts trying to calm his classroom. Eventually he gets most of the students to return to their seats, but you note that nearly the entirety of the front two rows are empty, save for a young Elven woman who watches you clearly fascinated, or horrified. One or the other, it's always hard to tell between the two. You merely pluck up your severed limb and wait, leaning against a desk in one corner of the room while you wait.

Once the students are seated, Demetrios motions you into the center of the room. You stand up straight and stride forward to stand proudly beside him. He clears his throat, addressing his students. “Class, I'd introduce you to Master Mikhael Abdul-Hakim, a friend and business associate of mine. The co-founder of Siege! in fact, and an accomplished adventurer. He's here to show you the process of regrowing a limb.”

You step forward, bowing low. You touch the fore and middle fingers of the hand on your severed arm to your forehead and then your chest. You hear one of the students whisper something about being sick. Once you right yourself, you smile broadly to the class. “Before I begin, are there any questions?”

One boy timidly raises his hand, you point to him using your severed arm. “Yes, you. In the middle.”

He coughs, fidgeting uncomfortably for a moment before speaking. “Isn't-well, isn't regenerating limbs like a... Grandmaster technique? If you're only a Master, isn't this really dangerous?”

You shrug your shoulders, flicking out the severed limb and getting a few drops of blood on the floor. “I don't know, yeah. It's probably dangerous. Severing a limb is always dangerous. It should be noted that I am a Grandmaster by skill even if I'm only a Master by title. I'm due to test for the robes next week, after I resolve a few issues elsewhere on the continent.” You turn your attention from the boy to the rest of the room. “Other questions?”

You're met with silence, so you opt to begin the process. You channel vys, allowing your body to do as it wills with the excess energy. Slowly, bone begins to weave itself together. It's proceeding at an inordinately slow pace, but this actually proves advantageous. Even if you do have to pump more vys than you otherwise would into the healing process. You can see individual strands of bone weaving themselves together with others to form a seemingly solid body. The strands split at where your elbow should be, branching off into two separate lengths of bone before shattering as it reaches your wrist. There seem to be a dozen bones in the hand alone, you had no idea.

Blood vessels and muscle flow forth next. Snaking veins and arteries wrap around the skeletal arm, others veins running along the surface of the rapidly growing muscle. Individual bands of muscle anchor themselves to bone with lengths of tendon, others cords of red tissue attaching themselves to those muscles already anchored. Your arm rapidly turns into a glossy red and white mass of muscle and tendon, bone visible only at your elbow and within your hand. You flex your fingers carefully. Apparently nerves must have come along with muscle tissue, though you didn't notice them.

Fat and skin roll across the exposed muscle, covering it like a blanket. You hold your severed arm up to your newly grown arm for the class to see. They're exactly identical. Actually, you new arm may be just slightly more toned than your old arm was. You're pleased to see that the front two rows have filled in a bit, as students moved to get a better look at the process. Not by much, though.
