You stand in the dawn's light, exultant!
A giant spider once more!

Your chitin is glossy and whole, sharp and solid and wonderful.
You could take the forest on. You can take the whole world!

You stamp your feet a bit as you turn in a circle, stretching- still cautious of your bandages, but there's no way you'll be holding yourself back today.
You were inside for daaaaaays. You need to do something, to run until you can't anymore.
You're going to snap a bear in half and then eat both halves and run until you're hungry again!

You laugh, a little crazily, letting the morning wind brush your bangs aside.

You're going to be invincible! You'll never get hurt again, because healing is boring and slow and itchy.

"Lyra, we are having breakfast, yes? You are outside, laughing like an idiot. Stop worrying your sister's neighbours."

Dammit Mom! You can't ruin this, everything is perfect and you are not embarrassed.
You cheeks just sunburn very easily and you are hungry, so you're coming inside and not blushing at all.

>You've got trips to make! Chow down and head for moth village!

You scrabble your way through breakfast, eating so fast that your mother is forced to stop you.

She patiently waits as you down a glass of water before she lets you back at the meat. You can't let breakfast get in your way! Energy, though, you'll probably need that.

You wash your face clean in the aftermath of the breakfast frenzy, filling your buckler with water and just sticking your face in. Jin laughs a bit at the water running off you, so you douse the harpy and dry off.

Before anything else, though-

You snag your puppy, dragging a surprised sounding wolf into a crushing hug.
"Happy Birthday, yes!"
"What is that?"

You drop her in front of you, brushing her hair back from her eyes and scratching her just behind her pointed ears.

"Your birthday is the day you were born, yes. And we missed it. You are more than a year old, now. It is something to celebrate."

She nods slowly, looking thoughtful.
"Yes. I have a pa- a family. And I am happy. And alive, yes."
You pull your present free, the armour folded neatly, and drop it into her waiting hands.

"This is yours, yes. A birthday present! To mark the day."
You kiss her forehead, hugging her again, whispering into her ears.
"I am glad you are here. I am glad I know you, and that you are family."

She smiles brilliantly at you, clutching the gift to her chest, tail flying behind her.
"Yes!"

Jin has happily returned to her perch, twisting and turning to seat herself just right.
"When do I get a birthday present?"
"On your birthday."
"Is it my birthday now?"
"Your birthday is a few days before mine, yes? It will be here soon enough."

The harpy nods sagely, and you skitter off into town, mentally running down your checklist for the day.
Birthday gift. Check.
And next up-

You breeze through town, barely slowing to greet passerby.
The shed was at the edge, right?

It's easy enough to find, being the only small building guarded by a pair of adventurers.
You get a set of hesitant waves as you stroll up, grinning all the while.

"Hello, yes."
"Uh, good morning." "G'morning."
"Granz!" "Too early, I'm not awake enough."

"Uh-"
"Can we help you, miss?"

You opt to set aside people being largely asleep on guard duty.
"I'd like to go inside, please."
"You're not gonna fit- uh, sorry."

Yeah, that doorway isn't gonna cut it at all.

"Uh. They're prisoners, y'know?"
"They are wolves, yes? How would a shack stop them from leaving?"
"We're both adventurers."
"Can you outrun them?"
"Prrrobably not?"

You shake your head.
"If they try, Sheszka will catch them, yes."
"Well, we were supposed to let her see them, right?"
"You let 'em out, then."
"Bastard."

The squabble has no real fire in it, and the door is open soon enough.

Five wolves file out- three men and two women. All of them look around swiftly as they leave the building, before their eyes find yours and they take seats in the dirt.
One of the women takes the frontmost spot, the rest crowding behind her. She's bandaged fairly heavily, though how much of them she still needs is up in the air.
Monsters heal fast.

You recognize her eyes, though. She was with the alpha- the one fighting Sheszka.

We could use them as goons to help police moth roads.

Underlings of the Spider
>>
>>39033281

Prolly supervised hunting/guarding - assign one or two to help out two or three adventurers, build up some trust between the sides. Could also work as messengers or interpreters for any communiques between the town and the forest peoples.

Maybe in a few months let them do stuff independently again (should they wish to).

They're gonna need identification (Elle-designed tunics or special guild badges?) so that the forest harpies/arachne/moths don't think they're another invading force or such.
>>
maybe we could just start our own personal caravan guarding company. I mean we have enough people for it, and the wolves would make great scouts and as we have seen are good warriors.

>>
>>39033515
The guild would object. Violently.
>>
>>39033661
From a completly different part of the forest and a completly different lifestyle, the woilf stories are as likely to be interesting as some random merchants tales of how he got a good deal on wool that year.

Sorry sir, no matter how much you bargain, they're still less valuable. Supply and demand and all that.
>>
>>39033695

>>

why, we're part of the guild in a way, Plus we've been saying we're looking to find a caravan anyways.
>>
>>39033725
>Fight the giant spider and her personal guard of Evo1/2 monsterkin?
Yes their livelihood depends on it. That's the whole point of a guild.
>>
>>39033733
I'm not really bargaining, I'm for example far more interested in wolf stories, so there is demand right there. And where we are going out-of-forest stories are going to be in high supply with or without caravan.

You glance at each in turn, crossing your arms over your chest.
Start with the forest language, maybe?

"Can any of you understand me? Can any of you speak?"
They shift uncomfortably, the woman at the front squaring her shoulders, responding hesitantly.

"I can... speak."
"Mhm. What are your names?"

"I am Asarra. These are Reniz, Ferin, Oth, and Kara."

"Alright."
You tap one leg idly against the ground, tilting your head and thinking.
"Why did you cross the river, yes? Why try attacking the harpies?"

She shifts uncomfortably bfore she replies.
"Alpha thought... that it would be easy. And we would be safe over the river. Other packs won't cross for spiders."
You click, irritated, and the wolf freezes again.
"Why cross? Why think that we would not help the harpies?"

"Sa-Said if we won fast, the spiders wouldn't bother. We could keep the land-"
"If you had taken the village- they would have called all the arachne down on you."
She hangs her head.

"Why did you stay, then?"
"Hn?"
"You did not run, yes?"
"Nowhere to go."

"Other packs won't take you?
She looks miserable.

Every single adventurer is a business unto themselves already. Us offering to guard caravans with our wolf pack is no different froma group of adventurers doing the same, only we would do it on a regular basis.

Also, its the adventuring guild, not the caravan guard guild. They are only a mediator between those seeking adventurers and the adventurers.
>>
>And what will you do now, then?

We could start Spider and wolf Caravan Guard Company.

If it catches on and other wolf packs see how caravan guarding could be profitable for food and with less danger than the life they lived before; we might revolutionise wolf society.

Its the exact same reason we have dogs today.
>>

>>
>>39033913
And why wouldn't we? Insofar everyone else already does it anyway?
Its the fastest way to find people wanting their caravan guarded and its not like they take a cut from us.

And even if they did somehow take offense for some arbitrary nonsense reason, businesses don't stay in business by doing stupid unprofitable shit. Trying to violently make us stop from guarding caravans would hgurt their business way more than not mediating the two or three caravans we would guard per year.
>>
>>39033758
>And what will you do now, then?
>>
>>39033849
we could just give the guild a percent of our earnings so they can keep pointing out jobs for us. Besides the way this will probably work is we'll sign on with someone, get to where we want to go, and then go adventuring for about a week to a month. So it's not like we're going to be the most active in caravaning . Besides we don't really need all that much money.
>>
>>39033973
>we could just give the guild a percent of our earnings so they can keep pointing out jobs for us
Why would we do that? Other adventurers don't give a away percentages of their pay either.
We do nothing different except that we specialise and do it a bit more often.

>>39033966
They're obviously getting a cut from the caravan end of things. Guildhalls don't build themselves.

Like I said. not oppsed to jobs, just starting a business.
>>
>>39034030
my main issue is:
running a business is a LOT OF BORING WORK
Why not just have the guild do the administrative side of it and get to do all the fun stuff ourself?

I don't even want to learn what the hell fantasy taxcode is for a team of elite wolf warrior guards.
>>
>>39034030
>They're obviously getting a cut from the caravan end of things.
Which matters to us how exactly? You honestly think there are no professional hunter/guards in the entire continent independent from the guild?
Thats just silly, its the adventurers guild, they take care of adventurers, if someone doesn't hire adventurer, its none of their business.

And again, even if it would bother them, what would they do? Fighting Lyra about it would be way more unprofitable than just letting her do it.
>>
>>39034057

It really depends on how its set up, a single company just us and our minions guarding a single caravan per trip is not actually that much administration.

Its not like would be focusing on it. Its just a service we offer while we move around. We're not going to set up shop anywhere.

Her current medical dust shows no sign of being harmful at all, there is no reason to assume hypothetical other dusts will be different in that regard.

>>
>>39034730
Nin has been using it for a while without any sort of medical understanding about effective dosages, its pretty safe to say it probably can't with the magic healing dust.

I still doubt that. Its magic healing dust, I find it not very plausible to assume it does anything harmful.

Generally if you inject someone with random material from a syringe anywhere important thats always bad, they healing dust or not doesn't matter at that point.

>>39034862

In the proper solution, among the other things coagulants are sometimes injected like that, so I'm not sure what you're trying to argue about here.

If you prepare it appropriately I see no reason why you couldn't use the dust that way too.
>>
>>39034936

Nin could totally do a wide variety of poison types by combining her rapier and dust abilities.

well, that, and it is real dangerous to test unknown dusts on people. What if it's horrible melting catalyst dust?
>>
>>39034950

"What will you do now, then? And what will happen to the ones who ran?"

"Not sure. Die."

"You or them?"
"Them. Can't hunt on pack land, can't join. Get eaten by something bigger."
"Wait- what about children? Them too?"
"No. Not enough food this season. None allowed."

"Fighting. Always fighting for food and space."
"You did not want to fight for food and space anymore, so you came and attacked someone for their food and space?"

It just- it goes around and around and around. There should be a limit to being circle stupid. If you are doing something you don't want to, so you can stop doing the thing you don't want to, you have essentially failed at your stated purpose. You have already lost.

You press your palm to your forehead, sighing.
"Please think about what you want to do, yes?"
"I don't-"
"You don't need to answer right away. We won't force you across the river. If you want to stay here, people will- people will probably find something. If you want to leave, then talk, and we can find something. The fighting is over, yes?"

She still looks confused, but she nods before you let the adventurers usher them back into the shed.

>The guild- someone spoke with them, yes? Have they been saying the same things?
>Maybe just head straight to the guild and talk with someone. Edmund? Somebody has to have thought about this already.
>They can make their own decisions eventually. You have people to visit for now. Give them time.

What happens if you snort healing dust?

>>Maybe just head straight to the guild and talk with someone. Edmund? Somebody has to have thought about this already.
>>
>>39035024
I dunno, dusts that aren't active tend to just sort of get absorbed by the body after a possible period of intense infection and pain.

Depending on type of dust.

>The guild- someone spoke with them, yes? Have they been saying the same things?

Thats why I said somewhere appropriate. It wouldn't work everywhere.
If you inject healing dust into the stomach or someones body fat or muscles or whatever, it probably would help them more than harm them.
>>
>>39035039
your nose heals shut.

>The guild- someone spoke with them, yes? Have they been saying the same things?
Hey, you two guard mooks.
Why haven't you been consoling them?

We have to collect the ones that ran away.

It would probably be way worse than normal dust if you get it into an artery though.

good to know no matter what life we're living we're always going to be a troubleshooter in some form or another.
>>
From what I get the healing dust doesn't do crazy shit, it just supports and speeds up natural healing, if you lose a limb it will NOT let you grow it back, nor will it save your retarded ass from a severe poison, although it will lessen the damage from it. Chances are getting severely shanked would be similarly bad for you.
>>
>>39035034
>Maybe just head straight to the guild and talk with someone. Edmund? Somebody has to have thought about this already.

I want to offer the guard thing.
Nin will be unbearable if we get our own honour guard, but I don't think we can get them to feel safe and obey at the same time without playing the alpha.
>>
>>39035137
The real question is this:

If your shank was covered in healing powder, would that hurt the one you were shanking less than a non powder covered knife?

If so, sweet, scalpel tech.
If not, sweet, poison tech.
>>
>>39035125
I would think it would be less bad than normal dust, because it heals shit and normal dust doesn't.
Its not like the dust 'does' anything specific. It has all kinds of vague effects depending on what needs healing.
>>
>>39035153
Only one way to find out... operation prison shanking is a go.
>>
>>39035158
I posit that it DOES in fact do specific things.

It seems to be an analgesic and coagulant given my notes!
>>
>>39035192
Would you say its basically a fantasy version of ss13 bicardine or would you consider it more on par with tricordazine?
>>
>>39035192
Nah, it just heals wounds, and if that needs lood to stop flowing then it does that.
Nin used it against headache at some points, and against fever at others. Its just all purpose "healing" stuff and whatever needs to happen for that happens.
>>
I thought the basic healing dust was a magic ibuprofen... not something that undoes damage, but something that lessens the effect and dulls the pain...
>>
Guild dudes, we demand answers!

writing!
>>
>>39035274
It seems to me that it does actually heal damage, or at least increases the natural rate of healing. Since its used to make healing potions and Nin used it on our wounds.
>>
>>39035034
Can we ask them why it wasn't safe across the river? Might be related to the Hydra
>>
>>39035305

"Fighting. Always fighting for food and space."
"You did not want to fight for food and space anymore, so you came and attacked someone for their food and space?"
>>
>>39035274
Healing dust is largely magic.
For the most part it lessens pain, accelerates healing, prevents infection, that sort of thing.
In higher doses, or mixed into potions, it has actual magical healing effects.

It also exfoliates skin, promotes thick and lustrous hair growth and prevents balding! Reverse the effects of aging with Moth brand Powder!
>>
>>39035338
Oh. My bad. I thought she meant something more specific rather than just pack wars
>>
>>39035251
bicardine, I'd say.
I don't think it does anti-tox.
>>
>>39035364
So, what you are saying is we will never know how effective moth healing powder is because moths are ALSO snake oil salesmen?
>>
>>39035439
My god... you've just inspired me! Thats genius! We could become a snake oil salesperson in RE: Snake quest! Who wouldn't believe a snake selling snake oil!?
>>
>>39035688
Stupid quest not running today. Lousy QM getting too wasted to run.
I-it's not like I like that quest or anything.
>>
>>39035737
Kay has pretty much acknowledged that, while not actually canon like RE: Lizard quest, it is a greatly entertaining quest that kay him/herself is following.
>>
This is a mess. Which mostly just leaves you wondering why someone hasn't cleaned it up already.
They're pretty clearly not any real danger anymore. They won't run, as they'd just die across the river.
They're kind of depressing you even, now.

"Excuse me."
"Yeah?" "You need them again? Already?"
"What? No, of course not. The guild interrogated them, yes?"
"Interrogation is a pretty strong word. Someone spoke to them, I think."

"Well?"
"Well what?"
"Were they saying the same things?"
"Huh?"
"The same things they were saying a few minutes ago. To me, yes."

"Uh- I couldn't understand anything any of you said there."
"Oh. Sorry."
"That's fine. They upset about something?"
"Depressed, I think? I think they think they're going to die."

"What for?"
"Because they are all idiots. Everyone is an idiot."
"You too?"
"Yes. Do you know where Edmund would be?"

"Probably the office. Lotta forms to fill out for war, I think."
"Ridiculous."
"I just use a sword, don't look at me."

You make your way to the guild, shallow in thought. Like you were on a thought beach, and it gets deeper the further out you go, but you don't really like swimming and the ocean smells anyway.
You almost run over an adventurer on their way out, and you pick them up with an apology before stepping into the guild.

Everything is back to normal it seems, people running jobs, haggling with the barman, eating lunch, passing out from drinking at noon because they have no self respect. The usual.

You wave to return any greetings as you go, heading for the office, and hopefully some answers.
>>
>>39035916
My apologies! I have to call it here for family business!
Next session probably thursday, most likely.
Ill be back at the computer sporadically in a while, so you can leave any questions here!
>>
>>39035956
aw shit. I thought there'd be another.

Thanks for running, guy!

What do you do with a drunken sailor? I mean drowning lizard and snake? HAHAHAHA. Seriously though thanks for running
>>
>>39035956
You make me sad, but ah well. And I like the turn of phrase "shallow in thought."
>>
>>39035956
Is there a minor and major/proper/full god for everything, or do some aspects only have a minor deity?

Really hope we never go legit. Shit is wack yo.

Thank you for your efforts good anon.

Pretty sure we can cross of Rampant Shitposting since a long time ago.
>>
>>39035985
>Nin

Well, I guess at least it can only get better.
>>
>>39036061
People have been asking for nin x lyra smut since the great prank wars started. Also it was intensified after huehuehue blueballed everyone like a faggot.
>>
>>39036017
>no rampant hitposting
Have you seen the cannibalism discussions, and the second muscle discussion?
Shit was awful.
>>
>>39035985
Oh my~
>>
>>39036126
Okay okay fine, I'll check off rampant shitposting, that only leaves us with ONE thing left on the list... ITS TIME TO START A WAIFU WAR! LANN WAIFU BEST WAIFU!

>>39035985
Bless you, Anon.
>>
>>39036061
Because Nin is blatantly obviously crushing on Lyra and many people ship the fuck out of that.

I know I do.
>>
>>39036164
Don't get me started on all the reasons most monsters don't make sense, hell, especially mimics which are personally my favorite monster don't make sense.
>>
>>39036164
Yeah the topic was good, the actual discussion was faggots shitposting at eachother about shit they clearly knew nothing about.
Thats why I specified the second one, the first one was okay.
>>
>>39035985
I really like it. Thats way above the standard of he usual quest smut bin in quality, its actually pretty good, thanks.
>>
>>39036201
Oh, I thought you meant "second" as in talking about the second set of muscles involved in spider butt.
>>39036197
I really wish I could have fantasy games that gave me detailed Xcom autopsies of mimics and shit.
I want finely labelled treasure glands.

also fuck you captcha
>>
>>39036253
I personally like to class them as a form of cnidaria, similar to coral... calcium structure, and stinging cells to wreck your shit if you get grabbed by the tongue. That or a failed magic/alchemy attempt, I was considering a mimical realm quest where one of several potential flavors of wizard accidentally fucked up doing something or another and blew up his tower, accidentally creating mimics.
>>
>>39036339
I haven't really considered mimics beyond "obviously magically created race of shapeshifters"
>>
>>39036144
Oh man if REQM ever actually brings up the topic, it will either be over in one thread, or the shitstorm will be epic.
>>
>>39036144
It will definitely be a harem ending.
>>
>>39036339
Mimics were deliberately created as an anti-dragon measure.
They just were completely unprepared for their voracity- and how quickly they breed.
>>
>>39035976
>>39036038
>>39036094

Thanks for playing!

>>39035995
throw them a lifeline, maybe?

>>39036001
Writing Lyra being hyper and thinking too fast is a guilty pleasure.

>>39036005
Minor deities are, for the most part, existing people or monsters, so they're a great deal more varied than the proper gods.
>>
Contributing to the waifu war, I'm personally fond of Lyra/Sheszka.
>>
>>39035985
You done did good kid. Maybe when I crawl out from under schoolwork I can paint something to accompany this.
