“Kat,” Professor Fir begins. “Since I’ve set up my lab, I’ve two different sources of information about you. One is the townspeople, the other is your Pokemon.” He scratches Levi behind the ear. “I’ve always found Pokemon tend to be much more reliable. They can tell you who you really are.”

“Professor?” You’re not sure where he’s going with this.

He feeds Levi a small treat, and pulls his hand away just in time to avoid losing it. “What I’m saying is, no matter what, your Pokemon see you as a great trainer. Don’t forget that.”

“Thanks, Professor.”

You have a DNA sample sent over and end the call.

The king and queen return shortly, followed by the massive head guard you saw earlier. As they enter the room, you notice something following them stealthily.

It’s that Haunter, and it has a very small camcorder. That sneaky director!

“Well, Kat,” The queen strolls gracefully towards you. “I know this all must be very difficult for you. While we wait for the results, one would-” She pauses. “We, would like to get to know you better.”

“We have many activities available on the island,” the king says. “Perhaps you’d enjoy Fennekin hunting, or a ride on the airship. Perhaps a tour of our training grounds. Your friends and guard are welcome to, of course.” He gestures to Vance.

“Hunting?” You say, shocked.

The king and queen laugh in a very royal fashion. “We simply catch them in pokeballs, and release,” the queen clarifies. “Oh my, I do suppose the term is misleading.”

The unreasonably tall and massive guard leers down at Vance like he’s the same type of Pokemon, moving in on his territory.

“An airship!” Your eyes light up. “And Fennekins!” You don’t even think about it as you hand a servant a hair from your head for the tests. You can’t help it. You never thought you’d see either of them. “I don’t know!” You feel like it’s Christmas and you’re the first orphan to pick something out of the transit system’s lost and found!

The queen looks delighted that you’re so thrilled. The king even seems to be softening up just a little. He catches himself and coughs though. “Why not both? We can tour around the island, then land in the hunting grounds. We’ll make a day of it!”

You look to your friends. They all seem enthusiastic about it, but you also get the sense that they’re just happy to do something that makes you happy right now.

With that settled, you all go to the large yard where a massive dirigible is being prepared for launch. The other royal family members come to meet you. There’s a loud sound as the different sections are inflated and checked.

The young prince regards you coldly. “My apologies for the commotion, my lady. I’m sure once the results come back, you can be on your way with this but a simple memory.”

Clair chokes down her laughter. You see her whisper into Robin’s ear. You can’t hear it, but it looks like she’s saying the prince ‘totally wanted to bone’ you. Clair thinks that's the funniest thing to ever happen too. Luckily it’s too loud and windy for anyone to really notice.

Princess Beatrix, the younger. “I think it’d be great for us to have an older sister,” she says. “I’ve always wanted one.”

Beatrix offers you a warm smile. “You’re so mature! You’re not like the commoner tourists we usually see!” You guess you’ll take that as a compliment.

Arledge still looks at you a little coldly. “And if it comes back positive?”

“I’m not interested in any throne stuff,” you tell the prince. “I have more important matters to worry about in my life. That said, I've always wanted a little sister! Let's be great friends, Bea!”

He seems pretty relieved to hear that, but still regards you with a little suspicion.

Beatrix starts asking you a thousand questions. She seems to have read a lot about Pokemon trainers. “Most trainers quit and go into different fields after a single journey,” she says. There’s only one champion, after all. I hope it's you this year.”

You chat with her awhile as the ground moves farther away beneath you. Crew members and servants scurry left and right. Clair has her feet up on a chair and has someone feed her grapes. Vance and Jeanine are both politely sampling small foods with toothpicks in them and talking with crew members. Robin is glued to your side as you chat with the young princess.

Beatrix’s eyes dart between yours and Robin’s badges. “You two must be a pretty strong team!”

You throw out Devon first. A few servants and crewmembers hesitate before walking passed. They eventually get used to him after seeing how well behaved he is.

“Wow!” She pets him. She’s acting a lot less like a princess and a lot more like a girl right now. “Arlec! Look at how shiny it’s coat is! I bet she’s an even stronger trainer than you!”

“I’m not a trainer.” He flips his hair back. “But I don’t believe it’s fair to compare oneself against another without seeing them battle. It’s hardly sporting to battle someone who hasn’t had the benefit of your education.”

You keep your attention on Beatrix. “Want to ride him?”

She very much does. You let her zoom about on Devon’s back, causing mayhem and chaos on the ship and servants and crewman dodge out of the way. She comes back with a panting Devon. “That was great!”

You take out Nibbles this time. “You want to ride him now?”

Before anybody can stop it, she hops aboard the waiting Nibbles and takes off. He barrels down the halls, shaking the entire floor. You feel the airship try to correct itself as the weight shifts rapidly. A few dishes and plates crash down before the situation is brought under control.

The king and queen clearly want to say something to you about it, but don’t.

Well, that’s enough of that. You shrink away and look for some people you can talk to about whatever happened 16 years ago. You’d better be quick, before someone notices you’re not around.

You see the queen coming down the hallway. “There you are. You have the most delightful friends! That Jeanine has a wonderful talent. She tells me my aura is Water and Ice, just like Lapras.”

A servant comes to tell her something. “Oh! Kat, dearest. We’ll be landing shortly at the hunting grounds. You must come and see the view before we land.”

This might be a little off topic for the moment but I have an idea about how we can help the Lapras situation. Lapras, besides being water angels, are know to sing beautifully. What I suggest is we play some sad music on our flute for all the captured Lapras, which the king and queen would probably show off, and see if we can get them to sing along. Hopefully this would have the desired effect of getting them released and maybe some interaction with Meloetta.

You go and stand with the queen while you take in the view. You have to admit, it does look pretty. You can see the entire forest. It’s neat to see bird Pokemon from above.

“Wonderful, isn’t it?” She says, looking down. “I know many people accuse us of hoarding the land for personal use, but in truth, it’s more of a preserve than anything. Fennekin’s are native to the island, but still very rare.”

“Why not call tell the people then?” You say, curious. “Let them know what it’s really for.”

She gives a bittersweet smile. “The people have become bitter to anything associated with preserving nature. It’s seen as caving to the pressures of the main land, or impeding development.” She sighs. “We’re popular now, but monarchies tend to fade when they go against public opinion, these days.”

She catches herself and perks up. “I’m sorry, my dear. I shouldn’t burden you with such thoughts. There will be plenty of time to worry how to rule after your father and I are gone. You should enjoy the freedom of youth.”

Well, this is uncomfortable. There’s still a few minutes before you land.
