You spend the rest of lunch-breakfast (Brunch? Maybe?) in a daze, running through your options for the day.

As you are a giant spider, complete with chitin, venom, and weighing enough to dissuade anyone from forcing you to do things- and even more to the point, you have no job- your 'options' for the day is nigh limitless.

The 'nigh' is the important piece of that sentence. Because, of course, there are in fact limits.
Which brings you to the list!

It's a list of all the things you've thought about doing for the day, divided into a few, easily identifiable headers!
There's the 'Easy, relaxing, no trouble' section. The 'Effort and reward' section. And most importantly, there's the 'Cant currently do this for fear of Mom' section.

It's a good list. It'll keep you safe.

That's what you tell yourself, anyway, as you step out of the guild and into the sunlit streets. Accompanied by your band of merry monsters, the day is open to your desires!

Of course, now you actually have to make a decision-

>Maybe you should head home for a bit? There's stuff that needs taking care of.
>Demand lessons in Elf-words from Lann. No, you don't care what it's really called.
>Hem and haw, standing idly in the street.
>Other (?)

I was instructed to remind you of wolf birthday at the beginning of the thread. You are hereby reminded.
>>
>>38849858
>>Hem and haw, standing idly in the street.

Villagers!
>>
>>38849858
>>Maybe you should head home for a bit? There's stuff that needs taking care of.
Dad can talk elvish too. Plus he's a mage and a royal so he's likely better at it.
>>
>>38849858
>>Demand lessons in Elf-words from Lann. No, you don't care what it's really called.

If she teaches us half elf words, and we combine them with half elf words we already know, maybe we'll get full elf words?
>>
>>38849858

>Maybe you should head home for a bit? There's stuff that needs taking care of.

Dad can teach us elfwords, and home is closer to Ezzy's and Nin's villages.

Also birthday for the wolf.

It would definitely make things easier.

Elf bothering narrowly takes it.

Huh... I take it it'd be moderately racist to get a dog house, a bone, a chew toy, or anything like that so huh... what do you get a werewolf thing.
>>
Also if it wasn't for lamb being upset today we'd have a holy trifecta of RE: Monster quests atm.

Speaking of that, are magical magic mushrooms officially canon now reqm?
>>
>>38850058
New gauntlets?
Possibly with spider motive, those seem to make her happy.
>>
>>38850023

She uses armor that's probably been destroyed in the wolf fight, forging her something new that marks her as a member of our pack would be ideal. Something with a stone in it would be thoughtful.
>>
>>38850058
A dress?
Ear muffs?
A ball?
>>
>>38850023

...is it bad that my first thought for a gift was wolf pelts for the boys?

We should see if we could get a good quality elemental gem/stone for Aria.

Y'know, because it'll let her hunt bears better.

I'm not sure if silk sweaters are a thing, though. They'd probably be more windbreaker puppies.

>>
>>38850092
Wrong birthdays.
Ours isn't for quite some time.
>>
>>38850092

God, if only there was a convenient, nearby repository where we could get lots of stones while also doing some good for the community...
>>
>>38850023
>>38850092

And of course it completely slips my mind that we're talking about Shez.

We could make her some armour, or improve her gauntlets. Not much else I can think of that isn't stereotype.
>>
>>38850118
I'm pretty sure manual labor will get us tied up by our mother. Earth bending however might be considered better. Also we were considering going to moth village at some point, which is a relatively safe walk.
>>
>>38850118
I fail to see what good for the community we would do by plundering the mine and leave less for the miners to do their job and earn their wage with.
>>
>>38850134

Profitable mining begins when they actually reach the layer where valuable minerals can be found. Getting them through the bedrock, and checking the deeper connective caverns for dangerous things (monster caves/dungeons/connections to the Old City) are something that might produce work for people, but would almost be guaranteed to produce casualties.
>>
>>38850134
Damn illegal spiders stealin' our jobs!
>>
>>38850190
>Profitable mining begins when they actually reach the layer where valuable minerals can be found
Which they already have because its a pre-existing mine they just reopened.
>>
>>38850204

Pre-existing mine, means that it's probably a number of things, among them: partially depleted, dangerously unstable, partially collapsed, and with no obvious direction toward valuable veins. With one step and a bit of concentration, we can chart out where they need to go to find veins, ensuring the operation runs smoothly for months to come.
>>
>>38850190
>>38850204

That and it's specifically a magical rock mine.

So if we actually went and took one (rather than perhaps purchasing one) it would indeed be stealing work away from them.
>>
>>38850254
They've already been mining for months now, they already did the securing.
>>
>>38850274
>>38850259

It would never hurt to ask what they need help with. Maybe we could pay our labor for a couple of stones and save a few lives.
>>
Shouldn't we continue our smith training sometime before joinig a caravan, don't know if we're to injured for that right now though.
>>
>>38850341
I would love to, but I don't think we will find the time for anything but refreshing our skills before leaving.
>>
>>38850358
>>38850341
Well, we do have some forced downtime.
But I say we use that for weaving or languages.

It was brought to my attention I didn't finished telling you all my stories before my group went on break for Dr. Love's Honeymoon, so I'm back

So the Mothia is sailing off to their next adventure to save Dr. Love's girl friend from marriage, enroute they were attacked by a band of Mermaid Pirates lead by the dreaded Black Scale. It was about midway through their Journey, on a day when they where waiting for the wind to pick back up when it happened. Mermaids with eye patches and peg fins started jumping out of the water to board and attack. After cutting down several mermaids their captain black scale finally boarded with her trusty sea parrot at her side. Through out the remainder of the fight the sea parrot was making off handed comments about the Moth's fighting abilities and mothers, to the point where Ginny made a grab at him, and succeed. This lead to a half hour hostage negotiation between the pirates and the Mothia. Black scale loved her fucking Parrot. The negotiations ended with the Mothia gaining safe passage through the rest of the Mermaids territory, a chest full of treasure and a few eye patches thrown in. That more or less concluding their sea adventures, they pulled into a port and to where the real fun started. The merchant republic in question was one ran by Butterflies. And Tom had the greatest idea has to how to sneak in. They just dressed up like butterflies, by the Moth definition of butterfly. Which is colorful, fruity bastards with no fluff. Once inside, they poised as a merchant house from the other continent and managed to wrangle some rooms as guest of one of the leading families and from their conducted their investigations and operations. It was soon after they discovered that Elizabeth was to be wed to the second son of the largest and wealthiest family there is. So naturally they began plotting the assassinations. And like many ideas they had, it included Dr. Love going in Drag
>>
>>38850371
If we go with the gauntlet/armour idea as gift for Sheszka, then that would be a good way to do two things at once.

Your players are the best.

You nod to yourself, and, ignoring the confused and curious looks from your friends (all while trying quite hard to avoid blushing), you poke your head back into the guild.

Lann is stacking a few dishes together and carrying them towards the barman, scrubbing at her face with one sleeve.

"Lann. Lann!"
She glances at you, then back to the barman. Then to the stairs.
Then she sighs, hands over her plates, and walks towards you.

"Can't I get a break?"
"From what?"
"From whatever nonsensical plan you've come up with this time."
"All of my plans make sense, yes."

"To Lyra."
"Thank you, Nin."

Lann shakes her head.
"Alright."
"Yes?"
"Not like that. Sell me your idea. What is it this time? Forgotten forest monsters? Going beyond the mountains? Leaving this world behind and ascending into the stars-"

"Can we do that? Please?"
You throw a smile over your shoulder at the harpy.
"I think you are the only one who can fly, Jin."
"Mhm."

You turn back.
"Please don't tell me you were actually considering that."
"No, no. Mom said no straining myself, yes? I just wanted to learn elf-words."
"Elvish?"

"Elf-words."
"Your dads an elf."
"He is at the nest, and I am here. And I think my mother would drag me back into the village if I tried to leave."
"Yeah. Yeah, I could see that."

"Well?"
"I guess? It's a bit new for you to be involved in something non-life threatening, so I'm going to wear my armour if you don't mind."
"You are ridiculous."
"Pretty sure it isn't me."

Anyway, no more clapping.

"We will make a classroom, yes?"
"What-"
"Wait, does the village have a class?"
"Uh-"
"We can borrow it!"

You drag the elf behind you as you take to the streets, excited and pursuing your foolproof plan.

"We cannot use this."
"I can use this."
"Mhm."
"Me too!"

"It's just you, Lyra."
"That's not fair!"
"I'm not quite sure why you thought that a school for human and harpy children would have a desk for a giant spider in the first place."
"Equality?"

Lann looks you up and down.
"Sure. You can have spider sized desks, and I get strength completely at odds with my size."
"I think my strength is appropriate for my size-"
"It isn't."

You sigh, looking longingly into the small classroom. And at your traitorous friends sitting at desks.
"Well, class is in session, I guess."

Lann heads inside, throwing open a few windows and leaving you in the sunshine.
Which is nice, given the weather.
Also, your height lets you poke your body through the window, or rest on the windowsill at your leisure.
>>
We should shape a giant stone desk.
>>
>>38851518
Lean heavily on a desk.
Or crouch down behind one.
Or pick one up and tie it at roughly waist level.
>>
>>38851518
Lessons go okay.
You get the feeling that Lann isn't great at elvish, but you're still picking it up pretty fast. You can almost hold a conversation by the time she's calling it quits. As long as that conversation is about your name, or the weather. Or numbers, you learned all the numbers.

Your friends take to it as well as you do, rattling off the phrases they've learned as you meander away from the schoolhouse.

They're deep in their fourth reiteration of introductions and comments on sunshine when it hits you-
You missed Sheszka's birthday.
Completely, utterly.

There's a moment of panic, but you wrangle it back by reminding yourself that you are a giant spider who is now almost an adult and not a year old yet.
Maybe monsters don't celebrate? Or maybe she didn't think it was important. Or just doesn't know how to track time. Or any number of reasons.

Given the fact that Arachne seem to pass on a lot of knowledge via genetic memory (or monster magic that does the same job) I wonder if we're not so much learning, as remembering elf words?

Spider language, forest language and plains language came to us instinctively. Who knows what else we have access to and just need to bring out?

Birthdays and monsters and-
This is complicated, isn't it?
Well, not complicated, but something you don't really know about. Or are not familiar with, anymore. Culture is complicated.
But this leaves you with but a single path forwards!

Time to find Mom!

You skitter through the village, checking between buildings, in the shade, in the sun. You feel a little silly, all told, but you'd rather not miss her. And you don't know where she is at this particular moment.
Your steps lead you to Lia's house in not time at all.
Of course, it would be vastly more helpful is the elder harpy was in the building, but you can't have everything.

You resume your search, resisting the urge to check beneath rocks while giggling uncontrollably, and spend an easy thirty minutes strolling the village, looking for your mother.

You stop, stock still as you catch wind of her voice, floating out from the open doors of the guild.

"-Hah. Yes, these never stop to be little miracles, yes? How much do I owe?"
"Oh. Oh! No, nothin' like that. Yer daughter's the one that built it, anyway."
Your mother's voice talks on a very certain sort of tone.

"She did, did she?"
"Uh-"

You move fast, even with your uncooperative limbs, stepping into the guild.
"Lyra-"
"Before! It was before!"

She glances between you and the stairway, eyebrow raised as you catch your breath.
"I, I built it before Elle's house, yes."
You elbow Nin gently, keeping the forced smile across your face.
"Oh. Yes, she did. Definitely absolutely."

You hiss at the moth's dismissal as your mother's eyebrows creep further upwards.

"It's true! You can ask Elle, yes! Oh, and you haven't seen her house, so you should go- I have questions too, and, and-"
She steps closer, patting you gently on the shoulder, narrowly missing Ezzy's trailing tail.
"I believe you, yes."
"Oh. That is good. That is nice."
"Mhm."
>>
>>38852544
I dunno, everyone started freaking out when we charged headlong into the center of an attacking werewolf horde, passed out from bloodloss in the middle of the town when we got back, and then when we woke up later our first thought was to go stomping around town looking for stuff to do while we were bandaged like a fucking spider-mummy. and no-one let us do anything because our mom warned them about us and threatened them with exsanguination if they did.
>>
>>38852680
She follows you back into the street, giggling along with the moth who will be sleeping webbed to the ceiling tonight, and you lead her towards your sister's new home.

Whispering into her ear isn't a particularly easy thing. Or even remotely subtle, given the way you have to lean out over both your legs to reach her. It's not like you can help it, though.

"Mom?"
"Yes?"
"Are birthdays a thing?"
"A... thing?"
"Do people celebrate them?"

She gives you an odd look, and you flick your eyes towards the trotting wolfgirl your opposite.
"Ah."
"Yes."
"So, she's-"
"Almost Ezzy's age, yes? Maybe a little short. Do wolves do that sort of thing?"
"I would not know, little one. We haven't spoken across the river in a long time."
"Mmm. What about arachne? Or Harpies? Or-"
"I get it, yes."

She clears her throat before leaning back in.
"Arachne celebrate adulthood and independence more than years. We do have our festivals, though. And people sometimes exchange gifts."
You nod along, and she continues.
"Harpies do. The hatchlings get jealous of the human children-"
"Aren't they already adults by the time-"
"Harpies tend to be... young longer than their bodies are."
"Okay."
"Moths celebrate years like arachne. Im not sure about Lamia, or wolves."

You brush your hair aside as you consider. You could ask the wolves. Maybe tomorrow.
Mom would be suspicious now, you think.
On the other hand, you could just introduce them to it. Or wait for the festivals.

A calendar would be a good investment. Does this world even have the same number of days?

Nin swings the doorway open, disappearing into your sister's house with a shouted greeting, and you all follow her in.

Speaking of Dad, I wonder if he could teach us some fire spells before we depart for the Elflands. Can't call ourselves a Firescairn without knowing a bit of true fire magic, after all.
>>
>>38852821
We can't do fire spells. Our magic is earth aligned.
We only got Fire Elemental manipulation.
>>
A little bit of everything, then?

Have we tried casting fire spells since we evolved? Elfdad is reasonably proficient with both fire and lightening magic, remember.
>>

Writing!
>>
>>38852909
I'm not familiar with the base material, but I understood it that your magic element can't change after you already 'got' magic.

I think Lightning is just a off-shot of Fire, like Lava is from Earth.
I'm pretty sure Sara would have discovered her second Element already if that were a thing.

Bu admittely, I could see it being a thing. We would need to ask Sara/Dad/REQM to know for sure.

>>38852922
Can you get a second element for your magic later?
>>
>>38852961
I'm pretty sure we can get another element, if I remember correctly dad's was fire to start with but he can also use lighting.
>>
>>38852961
It's possible to learn new forms of magic, though it's still entirely dependent on your, for lack of a better word, leanings?

I don't mean only things connected to earth or anything like that, but that You might be a natural with water magic but trash with lightning and so on.
>>
>>38852961
>>38853012
The mc of the LNs magic type allows him to use 'all elements forever' if he could ever be bothered to learn magic. I think the mage has 3 or something kinds.
>>
>>38853012
So, we can learn other elemental magics, but its unknown how good we would be with them, and some might be virtually impossible for us?

Why has Sara not tried that yet?
>>
>>38852961
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VGydt-4cJJE

I get the feeling that the elements are connected, so its more how you try to use it than what it is.
>>
>>38853073
Sara has actually tried to learn earth magic, and covered up her efforts when it turned out she couldn't.

After that, she decided to take her time and work on improving her bases. Mostly relying less on her abilities and more on actual spellcasting.

Maybe I'll offer it as a writeup when we have another thread full of them.
>>
>>38853091
Well, calling lava is explicitly high-level earth magic.
Maybe its also possible with high-level fire magic, but there is no "lava magic", so I don't think its a matter of aspects or anything like that.
>>
>>38853125
>Maybe I'll offer it as a writeup when we have another thread full of them.
That'd be interesting. Thanks for the info.
>>
>>38853131
basically the point i was making, i just couldn't find a more concise Iroh explanation.
>>
>>38853131
Pretty sure high level fire magic is more focused on intensity and control than on the form it takes. For example, a high level fire mage could probably summon hellfire and control it precisely. Or heat specific metal objects.

The room is warm.
Not in the temperature sense- though it is that too, you guess.
Mom and Elle are chatting your friends are finding things to do and talk about.
Sheszka tries to talk to you in elvish, and Mom laughs at your accents.

It doesn't discourage her in the least, though.

You settle down as best you can, and for the first time in a long while, draw your silk to your hands.
It's a bit slow at first, but weaving is like riding a bicycle. With your hands, and sticky strands of steel cable.
It's nothing like riding a bicycle at all, and to be honest, you were awful at driving even regular vehicles, let alone lightweight deathtraps.

How you ever let your friends talk you into that, you don't know. Bass-ackward ancient contraptions.
It's a little odd to think about now. It seems so far away.
And it is, really.

Your fingers shift and pull your silk into shape as your mind trundles along.
You're far, far away from where you once called home. You won't be going back, will you? You'll never see any of those people again.
But-

Here, you have a loving, closeknit family. Dysfunctional to an absurd degree, but there's a warmth you never had.
Missing your parents was something you were all too familiar with- But being glad when they were back was something new. And siblings-
Siblings are nice.

And you have new friends. All kinds, in both the personality and body department, hah.
Ages and interests too.

Your mother interrupts your thoughts as she takes a seat in front of you, untangling the mess you've started to make of your work.
Maybe a little too lost in your thoughts.
She smiles warmly at you, eyes sparkling in the window-reflected sunlight, and you return it as well.
>>
>>38853862
"Has it been a bit long for you, Lyra?"
You glance to your hands.
"Longer than that, yes? I cannot weave with a spear."
"Different tools have different uses, yes? I think needles would not have served you all too well a few nights ago."
"Mm. Can I- Can I ask more questions?"

"Of course, dearheart."
You nod.

Jin yawns sleepily somewhere behind you, clambering her way to the top of your skull, perching proudly and looking down at everyone. She fluffs her feathers twice, shifting left and right as she settles.

"Well, to start- How long is a year?"
"About a year, yes."
"That is less than helpful."
"Many days!"
"See, Jin has it."
"Is this a conspiracy?"

Your mother chuckles again.
"Three hundred and sixty five days. Is that better?"
You nod. It's the same then? You guessed the days were about as long, but- Well, you've haven't got a watch. And sundials are dependant on the sun being in the same place as it was for earth, right?
You're not actually sure. Ancient technology wasn't compatible with modern day supercomputers, so it wasn't something you spent too long studying.

"Well- Have you met Dad's parents, then?"
Your mother, for her part, opens her mouth as though she were about to answer- and promptly chokes.
Well, she recovers fast enough for this time.

"Wha- I- No, no I haven't."
"Oh."
"Why are you-"
"I was going to see them, yes? Does he even send letters? Does his family know if he is alive?"

Your mother's face gradually falls as she considers the questions.
"Maybe it is... different for elves?"
"So that is no, then."
"There is not much chance to send letter from a dungeon. Or ancient ruins. Or a forest. Or if you do not take time to write letters."
"He forgets a lot of things, doesn't he?"
>>
>>38853885
She snorts.
"You are one to talk, whelpling."
"I am not that bad!"
"You were looking for work while covered in bandages."
"One time!"

Your sister- and even your friends- join in with her laughter.
"Nnngh. I will ask him for a letter, yes? And more lessons in elvish."
"That would be good. For both of you, I think. I will enjoy watching him while he considers how many years he has to fit into a single envelope, yes."

Not to rudely uproot them, but like Mom said we really shouldn't be travelling, and we do need to talk to Dad about these things, and GLOATY GLOAT GLOAT over Aria / show her we aren't invincible.

To be fair, telling her Lyra one man'd an army right into the general is probably not going to do anything to boost her self confidence.
>>

>>Maybe you should bring the family to town?
have them now mooch of your sisters home until she kicks them out... unless she to lazy which is possibly.
>>
>>38854101

No, but showing her how damaged we got from it should help to temper that.
>>
That seems unanimous.

Writing!*

*Food delays.
>>
>>38854101
I wonder if we can somehow get the wolves to follow Aria instead of us.
That would solve that problem, and make sure she isn't alone when she goes on her own adventures.
>>
>>38854034

Z&E are "thrill of the hunt", not "heat of battle".

They enjoy chasing things down/tracking/trapping/etc, not actually standing and fighting.
>>
>>38854225
Probably could delegate one to her, if so, let her pick. Otherwise it will come off as a hand off or something.
>>
Alright, back and writing!
>>
>>38854225

>>
>>38855522
I doubt it.
We could probably order the one Aria chooses to protect her etc.
>>
>>38855522
You finished basking yet?
>>
You leave your current piece of work where it is, knitting your hands together as you think.
"Hnn- Maybe you could bring everyone to town? For a bit, at least?"
"Oh?"

"You don't want me to walk back, yes?"
"You wouldn't make it today. And tomorrow-"
She glances at your cracked hands, smirking.
"-Tomorrow, you will be busy."

"That seems ominous."
"Not at all, yes? Completely natural."

You flip some hair over your shoulder- and Jin catches it, calling Nin and Sheszka over. You try to focus on your conversation despite the fact that there is three girls clambering over you tugging at your hair.
"-A braid again? It looked nice, yes."
"Do you want one?"
"Yes."
"I like my hair the way it is."
"Your hair is a mess."

Jin picks out your style, Nin makes it happen and Sheszka is a wolf.
Mom smiles at all the activity.

And you try to swing opinion in your favour.
"Everyone can see Elle's house. And take a few days off-"
"The one who needs them is taking them already."
"Yes, yes. But I want to talk to Dad, yes?"
"I understand, little one. I'll go tonight, yes? And you can take care of all this tomorrow."

You nod.
Mom stands, giving you and your sister and your wolf a hug, heading out into the fading sunlight.

You watch her walk off until Elle draws your attention back to the situation at hand.
She coughs gently into her hand, pointing behind you.
You are struck with a sudden sense of creeping horror.

"Nin. Nin what are you doing-"
"Nnnothing."
"Nin!"

>>38857422

>>
>>38857745

Lyra, obviously. But in very much a 'Where the fuck did she learn about this' way.

"So you promise that you'll stop telling everyone I'm a queen if I do this?"

"Yes yes yes I promise oh Gods-"

*sigh* "...so you're the one who tried to sneak into my bedchambers, yes? Pray tell, weak little moth, why do you believe yourself worthy of your rightful Queen's... attentions?"

*a squeak loud enough to be heard in Oakring*
>>
>>38857745

As for actual printed smut, look up Eudeamon. It's a trip but incredibly enjoyable even if you aren't looking for porn. There's a rough draft in PDF format that was going around a while back.

>>38858345
I've read that one.
You're right that I didn't consider it porn at all.
Reading it was just incredibly fucked.

Or Lyra being tied by Nin with fragile silk, a delicate leash leading her around?
Lyra tying Nin to a web, kissing and biting?

I should write something to get this out of my system.
