You and your friends share the moment. You see Sneasel looking up from the side. For some reason Vance is letting him stay out. Maybe it’s because even Sneasel knows better to try anything in a police station. He chooses not to join in the group hug, but doesn’t give a rude gesture either.

The officer in charges comes over. “You kids are going to go to the gym sometime soon, right?”

You nod in the affirmative.

“Great. Furby wants to thank you in person. I told him he’d have to wait. I figured you’d want to get a good night’s sleep first. He doesn’t seem to realize not everyone has his disregard for a 24 hour clock.” She seems to have lightened up a bit. “You’re free to go whenever you’d like. There’s a Pokemon center just down the block. It’s always open, so you should be able to get some rest and heal your Pokemon up there.”

Your friends seem to really like that idea. Everyone starts getting their things together.

“One more thing,” the officer stops you. “I know you said you just accidentally found it, but I don’t condone vigilantes in my city.” She gives you, Robin, Vance a meaningful look. “But I see your badges. I know how young trainers can get. You kids need to be careful. Team Imperium has gone from being a minor nuisance to a very active organization pretty much overnight. I don’t want to see anybody with a promising future doing anything to get themselves hurt.” Oh, she grouped Vance in as trainer too, because he’s wearing the badge he got from Clair.

Hey AK
>>
You politely thank her for her concern and get ready to leave. She gives you a respectful nod

“Hey, weird question: Do these record everything?”

She rests a hand on her belt. “Yes, why?”

“Just wondering,” you say. You were considering your options, but figure it’s best not to escalate things with Robin’s dad just yet. “There are a lot of cool gadgets here.”

She laughs. “Well, we do like our toys.” She takes out a few things from her belt. “This whistle can make a sound only Pokemon can hear. We don’t use them much any more, but it put an end to that Ditto crime wave almost overnight.” She starts showing off her other gadgets to your friends.

You take the opportunity to take a closer look at the videophones.

Duh! That thing right there has to be the recordings! The one on the end is probably the most recent. There’s a small padlock, but nothing you can’t handle. You know if you ask about the specific recording, she’ll want to see it. But you could take it and use it for later against Robin’s dad if he tries anything.

Coming from someone who just busted up a major theft operation this accusation will carry more weight.

Capitalize on the moment.
>>
So people want to steal something in a POLICE STATION? And this honestly sounds like a good idea? We were just warned about being a vigilante and now are going to try and be a bigger one? Leave it to the police for now people if anything happens that is when we become the night not before.

You tell the officer about the video.

“He said what? That’s a threat. Kat, this is very serious.”

She pulls up the recording and you watch the recording together. She waits for the entire thing before commenting.

“My-my dad overreacts sometimes. He has a temper,” Robin explains. “But he’s never threatened anyone like that. That I know of.” She mutters that last part under her breath.

The officer looks at you all, considering things. “We’ll need to talk to him, and depending on how things go this could get a bit invasive. I can’t call it a fancy hotel, but you kids are welcome to stay here if you’re worried.”

“That’s okay,” Robin says. She looks at you, figuring you and everyone else wouldn’t enjoy it too much. “I don’t want to cause any more trouble for anyone.”

The officer taps foot in thought. “Alright. I’m going to be honest, I don’t like it one bit. But odds are pretty good we won’t be able to do much with just this. Some of it is unethical but legal in the eyes of the system, like the blacklisting, and other parts are vague.” She gives a sympathetic. “But I’ll see what I can do.”

It’s not like Robin to speak for the group like that.

You thank the officer and leave. It’s only after you’re out of the building that you realize how you’d usually be extra suspicious of someone like her. You must be changing too.

You and your friends head to the Pokemon center. You’ve been really wanting to heal your Pokemon. They didn’t take too much of a beating, thankfully, but you still like to make sure they’re treated well.

There’s very little wait time since it’s so late and Alloycaster is a pretty technologically advanced city. Before heading to bed, you go outside quickly and take everyone out for hugs. They really did well today.

You take your time praising your team, and they all seem to really appreciate it. You wonder if maybe any of them need an extra pick-me-up.

Sneasel is peering around the corner. When the fighting started, he was nowhere to be seen.

>Invite Sneasel over too. If he didn’t follow your lead in hiding, they would have spotted you both
>Thank Vlad for being so quick getting help. He had the least glorious, but most important job
>Give Nibbles extra praise for quickly finishing Raticate. He’s probably going to evolve soon
>Give Destiny a massage. She kept the enemy focused on herself.
>Devon’s mega-evolution gave you the firepower to stay offensive
>Trunks gave great backup with status effects
>Raistlin did a great job!
>Don’t single anyone out.

You praise them all equally, giving them each equal time in the spotlight. At the end, you invite Sneasel over.

“Come on over. You did a good job too,” you wave at Sneasel. He comes out from the corner and heads over. “If you didn’t hide as well as you did, they would have spotted us and had the advantage. It’s not easy to hide when you’re so tired.”

He makes a gesture of acting above your praise. You think he was just too tired to fight and didn’t want to get in the way, but you’re not sure. Wait. What does he have in his hand?

He tries to hide it, but he knows you saw it. He fesses up and shows it to you.

It looks like a bunch of small wires and bits from a vehicle.

“Oh!” You say out loud. He got that off the truck. Was he actually helping, or just causing mayham for fun? Did he take that during the fight, or after the truck was wrecked? You’re not sure with him and probably won’t ever know, but you give him and the others another round of praise then head inside.

There are shared rooms in this center. Not as expansive and open as the private rooms in Sandorp, but you, Robin, Jeanine and Clair can share one. You crawl into the bed next to Robin. You guess Clair isn’t comfortable sharing the bed with Jeanine there.

“Kat,” Robin whispers as you’re falling asleep.

“Nngh?”

You hear her eyepatch scratch against the pillow as she takes it off in the darkness. “I let her go. The girl I was chasing. S-she didn’t seem like she wanted to be there. I-I guess she reminded me of you a bit.”

>That’s sweet, but that was a mistake

“That’s sweet,” you give her a quick peck on the cheek. “I think you did the right thing.”

She gently rubs the spot you kissed her “R-really?”

“But I think I would have noticed if she was super smart and hot though.”

Robin stifles a giggle.

“I don’t have to worry about you running off with some Imperium hussy, do I?” You tickle her.

“Kat!” She whispers as quietly a she can. “Sstop!” She laughs then lets out a little snort. You ease off a bit and let her catch her breath. “Do you really think it was the right thing to do?”

“I’m a little on edge, and worried, but if you think it was the right thing, then I do to.”

She snuggles in close next to you, and you fall asleep.

“You’ve been busy,” a familiar voice says. “Miss me? It’s the dream version of you. She steps out of the darkness. “So, a threesome with Clair then Vlad becomes a father. You’re neglecting your own Pokemon to train Sneasel, and tomorrow your friends can kiss any privacy goodbye.” Her face morphs into Robin’s dad’s. “How. How do you answer for any of that!”

“I’ll survive,” you say casually.

“Aww, come on, nothing?” Her shoulders slump. “I guess I’m not that strong these days. I have to try though.”

“Well, it’s been a little messy I guess, but I’m not too worried.“ You stretch. “Want to do fun dream stuff?”

“If I say no, are you going to tell me to fuck off?”

“That, or if you ever make that face again.” You both shudder.

She agrees. Together, you run around having fun. You wonder if this is normal as you play ping pong with the subconscious amalgamated incarnation of your fears and insecurities.

You wake up. Today is going to be a good day. You can feel it. You get dressed and grab breakfast with everybody.

“You’re freakishly perky today,” Clair gets out between massive chomps of her pancakes. “We meeting the TV people or what?” Despite her tone, she doesn’t seem in a bad mood. That’s just Clair being Clair.

As usual, everyone looks to you for today's plan.

“Not yet. I want to get some quick training in first.” You figure it’ll be good to get warmed up and be at your best. You want to make a good impression.

Vance excitedly finishes his food. “Now we’re talking. Early morning training is great!” He leads the way to a good spot he saw, then starts his morning routine. He's practicing a form that reminds you of how Dratini moves. The man is a machine.

You feel a sharp jab in your arm. You whip around and there’s Jeanine, looking apologetic.

“What was that for?” Did she think you were checking Vance out? She’s never been threatened before.

“Sorry,” she looks at your arm. “It’s not numb at all, huh? I’m working on pressure points, but I can’t get it to work unless I’m practically massaging the person first. Your arm was exposed and I just sort of went for it.”

You rub your arm. “So that wasn’t a jealousy thing?”

She’s shocked. “What, no! I told you before already.” She leans on your shoulder, staring at Vance as he finishes up his millionth pushup. “You’d have to be crazy not to admire that.”

You check your shoulder for drool. That girl makes your attachment to Robin look mild.

Your hands find your Pokeballs. You don’t want to spend too much time before the gym.

You practice your bet pose as you throw the Pokeball. “Nibbles! Come on out!”

He roars, sounding as close to Leviathan as he can, but digging in his heels and moving his mouth the same way Devon does.

You give him a quick hug and pat on the head. He’s so cute!

Vance takes a break from his training to join you. He throws out Cranidos and the two Pokemon greet each other. They playfully start to wrestle.

“Oh, sorry,” Vance scratches behind his head. “I’m interrupting, aren’t I?”

Strong Jaw Fire Fang is slightly weaker than Earthquake and we aren't in much need for what it covers right now.

We never really pursued the whole "2 moves at once" thing.

“Vance, you’re a genious!” You bend down and gently stop them from wrestling.

“First time I’ve been accused of that,” he joking mutters. You know Vance is actually a pretty sharp guy, but you understand how people assume he’s just dumb muscle. “So, we’re letting them train together to compete?”

You nod. He guess right. “Listen up, Cranidos, Nibbles. Today, you’re going to learn Earthquake!”

The two Pokemon give you their full attention. It looks like they’re both eager to learn a new move. Cranidos starts to stomp on the ground. Nibbles sees this and stomps faster.

You step in again. “Woah woah woah. Slow down guys,” nobody said to just go. “We’re going to make it a game. Nibbles, you stand there. Cranidos, you go on the other side.” You grunt as barely manage lift him. You let him down as softly as you can manage before you throw out your back.

They have a bit of distance between them now. You take a fist sized rock and place it in the middle. “The game is simple. Shake the ground and push this rock forward. The first one to be touched by it loses. No moving from your spot, got it?”

They don’t even wait. Right away they start stomping furiously.

You step back and watch with Vance. After a short while, you start to feel the ground rumble. Soon, it’s enough to move the rock, just barely. Eventually it moves back and forth a small distance.

“Yeah! Keep pushing!” Vance shouts to both. The two brothers are locked in a heated competition. They start to get oblivious to you and things really get heated. The rock bounces higher than your head.

The rock starts flying back and forth, up and down. Your friends and a few random park goers stop what they’re doing to witness the event.

Cranidos finds a good rhythm and Nibbles copies it. Nibbles gets the perfect technique and Cranidos copies it in turn. Each brother fights for supremacy with an intensity that can only come from rivals.

You keep letting them go at it as the ground quakes and rumbles. You start having to actively keep your balance now.

They stomp in sync, making the ground move in waves. The rock is destroyed as the waves smash into each other. And still they don’t stop!

Both Pokemon begin to glow. They still don’t stop. You have no idea how much stronger they’ll become or if it’ll be dangerous. You could stop Nibbles from evolving, and probably get Vance to stop Cranidos too, but should you?

The ground shakes as both Pokemon glow and stomp in sync. A woman’s Furfrou slips out of it’s collar and runs in the opposite direction. She chases. A hat flies off a man and he doesn’t care.

The air takes on a mist of dust. Cranidos and Nibbles pulse, stomp, and glow in waves than you can barely stand to look at, but can’t turn away from.

And then it crescendos, knocking over a nearby tree and ended in a Earthquake that knocks over the Tyrantrum and Rampardos.

Each gets up and roars. For a second, it feels like you’ve stepped back in time.

Nibbles stomps over and licks you, nearly lifting you off the ground. It’s a lot better than what Vance gets. His Rampardos playfully headbutts him right over. If it was anyone else you’d be worried about them getting hurt.

You hug Nibbles. He’s still your cute little guy, even if he’s massive.

A kid with a small camcorder is recording you. “That was awesome!”

You really wish he was the film crew instead. Although you’re pretty sure you might get in trouble for all the damage. Good thing it happened in this park and not an alleyway or something.

You grab the saddle and strap it onto Nibbles, then climb aboard. He proudly carries you and roars. It’s no longer an imitation of Levi or Devon, it’s his own, and it’s ferocious. The air shakes as he lets all know about his primal fury!

“Hey! Shut up over there, will yah!” A voice from a nearby building yells.

Nibbles turns to him, and he shrinks back into his apartment.

Vance hops on Rampardos, but his ride isn’t as smooth. To his credit, he really hangs in there. “This is great! The next form I’m working on is definitely yours, Rampardos!”

Robin, Clair, and Jeanine walk along side as you head down to the gym. You get more than a few stares before arriving.

You see a camera crew waiting around. When they spot you, the one you figure is the director grins from ear to ear, then begins barking orders. “Why aren’t you filming!”

You see the director, two younger looking people about your age, maybe a little older, a large, heavy man with a beard working the camera, a Haunter with a directional microphone, and a few small Pokemon running around.

You wave and steer Nibbles passed slowly, giving them a little time to set up.

The camera man adjusts his lens. You can faintly hear him. “So is that her?”

“Oh yes.” The directors voice drips with glee. “She’s beautiful.” You get the feeling he’s not talking about your appearance.

Vance struggles to keep on Rampardos and steering him where he wants. Jeanine politely waves to the camera as she goes passed. Clair strolls by without comment, and Robin meekly rushes by with Joltik riding on her head.
The impressively large doorway is just barely big enough to get Nibbles through.

You come to the arena. Off to the side of it you see a large, bald, bearded man wearing a heavy apron, hammering away at a blacksmith station. He puts his equipment away when he sees you.

“I’ve been expecting you! I understand I have you to thank for returning these.” He gestures to several crates of metal plating. “I owe you a major debt of gratitude.”

He takes off the protective plastic glasses he had on. “Clair. You’ve grown. My offer to renovate your gym still stands.”

She grunts.

He seems to know well enough not to take it personally. “Robin! I remember when I first saw you. You only came up to my knees! Now you’re just passing my hips! You’ve grown so much!” He doesn’t seem to care about the camera crew at all. Robin meekly shakes his hand and he laughs jovially. “Still as tongue tied as ever!” He turns to face everyone now. “So, from what the police have told me, I think you’ve already earned these.” He tries to hand a badge to each of your friends.

You step down from Nibbles and approach. “Thanks, but I came here to battle for it.”

You catch a sly grin from him as he swings his arms wide in a dramatic post. “Forging your own path in the heat of battle, eh? Gird yourself for a challenge, then”

Oh, he is so perfect for the camera. You’re really getting fired up! You can already feel the excitement. “Great! We’ll-”

Clair grabs a badge from his hand, deflating the drama. “Neat.”

Vance takes one too. Then Jeanine. “Oh, shiny!”

You’re relieved to see Robin politely refuse. “I-I want to battle for it too.”

“Excellent!” He practically shouts. “Although I’d say fighting Team Imperium is more than proving yourself. Come come!” He leads you down to the arena. “Having those plates removed gave me inspiration!” He points down. “No doubt you already know of the reflective properties of the metal coating the arena?”

You and Robin nod.

“Well, only half of that area is reflective now. The rest is regular, hard steel.”

You squint your eyes and look at all the metal plating. You can’t tell which is plain steel, and which is the special metal.

“Much more exciting this way, don’t you think? Now, normally I enjoy a standard three on three match, but if you two would like, I’ll gladly battle you both.”

We're 16 and we accidentally did it.

Would take a "journey" and serious bonding and meditation with each and every pokemon. Not just between the trainer and pokemon but between each pokemon. Us (or Jenine or whatever theoretical trainer) could have it done by late 20s.

Then they're truly an unstoppable force, a Cohesive Unit of Pokemon Power.

That just brings trouble with balance.
If, then only for opponents, not for us.
>>

Tyrantrum is weak to Steel anyway.
>>
>>38714048
Well, there's really no reason for all pokemon to have the same mega. See Charizard X & Y.
>>
>>38714048
>>38713907
I would also be fine with Fakemon Mega evolutions for pokemon that don't have them.
>>
>>38714074
He is still one of the three only good offensive choices we have against steel, so normally we would have most likely used him.
This way, we probably need to use Raistlin, Devon and Trunks.
>>
>>38714048
>>38714098

I don't think we should get into all that
>>
>>38714073
He has the creative liscense to do as he wants so it kind fixes itself.

A Mega could be anything from a straight up raw power boost to now covering one of it's normal glaring weaknesses or giving it a new avenue of approach that it wouldn't normally have.

>He has the creative liscense to do as he wants so it kind fixes itself.
Needing to bend the rest of the system around it makes it seem like a even worse idea to me.

But really, I think more than two mega evolutions for us just stretches it, it makes megas seem cheap if all of them do it.
>>
>>38714179
Nah. Doesn't look right.
>>
>>38714048
I wasn't planning on it, but if it's something that has a lot of popular support I could give a whirl. Just so it's clear, even a magikarp with enough training and experience can take on a mega-evolved Pokemon. It's helpful, but not godmode.
>>
>>38714179
That would be awesome for a Machamp but i can't see Vance doing it himself. Maybe if Jenine sits down with them and helps out, or gives some tips.

>>38714188
I'm not saying now, we're only able to do it so easily with Devon because we naturally bonded with him. Our other pokemon would take serious effort, training, and bonding to get to the point where they could Mega. Maybe not in quest at all.
>>
>>38714235
Yeah nah. I'd be fine if we only got Devon to mega-evolve, having everyone do it only cheapens things.
>>
>>38714048
The only one where I would find that appropriate would be for Robins Sylveon.
And even here, the purpose would be served by her Gyarados. And she would be the only one in our group that I could see having one, maybe Jeanine, due to her abilities.

I actually like the restriction of 1ME, it makes it gives it more impact.
>>
>>38714235
Yeah, I just feel like Mega-evolution isn't so much a pokemon "becoming the strongest they'll be" but more of the pinnacle of the Trainer Pokemon bond.

Don't know about he other Anons but I'm more speaking for Epilouge/Sequel type deal.

It'd be silly for a rookie like us to suddenly Master something as complex and unknown as Mega-evolution in a few short years.
>>
>>38714235
I'd like it, and that sounds perfectly reasonable to me.
>>
>>38714316
>but I'm more speaking for Epilouge/Sequel type deal
I don't think the epilogue will focus on that sort of thing.
And if we do a sequel, and if Kat is the protag there, instead of her and Robins science baby, and if we take all of our pokemon with us in that sequel.
Then it would should be about mastering it over time, not about having it.

I wouldn't mind if we got Rastlin and Levi to Mega Evolve but I agree that we should stick to the games with only one per fight and not make any fake megas

I always imagined as as a traveling Pokemon Master collecting Gym badges from around the world and becoming the best pokemon Trainer alive.

Then going on to win the World Pokemon Leauge.

Cause c'mon there HAS to be one with how many separate regions there are.
>>
>>38714400
I'm actually less opposed to fake Megas than to having more than one ME capable pokemon.

If we had a starter that wasn't ME capable, I'd be all for that.
And I have no issue with fake megas for other trainers and their most important partners, but I agree with those saying Devon should be our only mega. That makes it mean more, in my eyes.
>>
>>38714437

Could see the World leauge/Tournament being a 6 on 6 battle with no rules. Trainers included.

Megas being common near the top.

Master League, you win one of the tournaments, you get bumped up in the league with the Elite Four and their respective BS.
If you're sticking to anime rules anyways. Other systems can do pretty much anything really.

>>38714464

I don't think it cheapens anything with Devon to have other megas, just makes more of our bond with the others.

You and Robin exchange a look. “Y-yeah! Let’s double battle!”

He laughs again. It’s a powerful, friendly belly-laugh. “Alright then! I know better than to hold back against you two.”

He heads over to his spot.

“Good luck!” Jeanine says to you both.

Vance pats you and Robin on the back. “Remember, a good fist trumps steel.”

“Hurry up and win already,” Clair strolls passed, flipping the badge she was given. “I already beat you to having the badge and I’m not even trying.”

Haunter laughs overhead. You try to avoid looking at the camera.

You and Robin get into position and a referee starts going over the rules. “This will be a double battle. Each side can use a total of 6 Pokemon, but only two at a time. Only the challengers may switch.” No surprises there.

Furby is going for two Pokeballs already. You see Robin isn’t reaching for a Pokeball, which means she’ll probably being starting with Joltik, who’s been sitting on her shoulder. She looks to you to follow your lead.

I don't see it, I think if you have more than one mega, it makes the mega thing less special.
I dislike the notion of mega-evolution being a necessary indicator of your trust and bond, and if you can't do it it means your bond isn't good enough.
I don't want to see it having any implication in that regard, its just that among all our partner, Devon is special.
Which is good to me.

Just not likely to happen anytime soon.

We barely know Rastlin, Levi is a bit better.

Closest pokemon besides Devon is probably Zappy Dan or Destiny. But even with them we haven't really "synced" like we did with Devon.

Remember in the haunted house when Devon was ready to Rip and Tear when he thought we got hurt? That's just something special.

Only choice we got without using Nibbles, Raistlin needs to wait after Devon so we can set-up Sunny Day for his HP:Fire, because his Focus Blast isn't quite reliable enough yet.

I just wished Robins pokemon had wider move-pools.
>>
>>38714814

>>
>>38714814

They probably have more than what's on the pastbin, Gobble's just been lazy.
She's been training just as much as we have
>>
>>38714826
I think you didn't understand what he was saying, he meant he wished her pokemon had more moves. Not more hypothetical moves.

>>38714846
I figured the same thing.
>>
>>38714619
Devon is special because it came naturally.

I'm not trying to argue or anything just trying to portray my point of view so don't let me irritate you.

I'd say our pokemon now is like the difference between having good friends who'll back you up and you can really rely on versus those special kind of Best Friends who would kill for eachother and trust one another implicitly. Probably not explaining it right but to me the difference is that extra "closeness" that you feel with maybe a romantic partner or a twin. Someone you could see being there throughout the rest of your life.

Devon would be our natural "best friend" getting to know the rest of our pokemon to that level would just require dedicated time to get close to them and understand their thoughts, preferences and dislikes.

Like a pokeballless retreat into the wilderness or some deserted retreat where we live with our pokemon together for a while. Really let them live not just through us and battling as we choose but eat, sleep, play, etc, etc like anything else.

Dam I'm rambling. Just a little bit high so it's alright.
>>
>>38714814
Tip to avoid misunderstandings in the future, a move pool, refers to the moves a pokemon can learn, the moves a pokemon knows, are the move-set.
>>
>>38714857
Move pool is hypothetical moves though.
>>
>>38714918

>>
>>38714814
What worries me more is that Dratini and Joltik haven't evolved yet, especially Joltik is more than overdue.
>>
>>38714861
>tfw when you'll never bond with you're pokemon to the point where you can Mega evolve them
Now I'm sad Anon, why'd you do this?
>>
You quickly grab a Pokeball and throw out Trunks. Robin’s Joltik leaps off of her and joins him on the hard metal arena floor.

At the same time, Furby’s two Pokemon land on the field from their Pokeballs too. You see a massive Steelix and an aggressive looking metal bird.

“Skarmory,” Robin says quietly.

The battlefield is separated by a small series of metal pillars in the middle. You figure there’s just enough room for Steelix to be able to move between them.

The camera crew moves around, looking for a better angle. It’s not as distracting as you thought it would be though. At least, not yet.

The referee waves his flag and the battle begins!

[That’s all for tonight. Sorry to leave things there. We’ll pick it up tomorrow. I have a few errands but will try to get it done early so we can start as soon as possible. Unless there are major objections, we'll be using the dice system again. Let me know if you have any questions!]

My headcannon is now that the World Pokemon Master lives in some deserted cottage in some far away mountain range with his 6-12 pokemon who haven't been in a pokeball in years.

They all stay Mega evolved fairly permenantly. Dropping out when knocked out or overly strained. The link that a Mega evolution creates with the trainer is not just between the trainer and his pokemon but his separate pokemon too.

He vists for the World Tournament when ever it occurs, probably every couple years.

The current dice system calls for a roll after 10 minutes to prevent that from happening. Players vote for the move they want, then the dice dictate stuff like crits, secondary effects, etc.

>>38715756
I know it does. I'm assuming that's why that anon wants to change the roll system.
