You are Siegfried Schmidt, a former guard from the city of Morsland. Due to various circumstances, you have become the temporary wielder of Galadriel, a holy sword which houses a powerful (and kind of rude) angel. Now you have come to the White Watchtower, a fortress close to the border between the Forsaken Lands and the kingdom of Iseria, to train with the crusaders so that you can protect yourself from the demons that might come after you now that the sword is in your possession.

Last time, you and Joan tried to help Erika and Justine settle their differences. After deciding to settle things with a sparring match, however, Erika was nearly killed in an accident, one which was intended for you. After investigating, you found that there's a demon hiding amongst the Watchtower's ranks, waiting for a chance to assassinate you. But the question now is, who is it?

You explain to Erika everything that happened after the sparring accident last night. You tell her about the spear, your fight with the demon, what you learned from Leonard, all of it. She listens to you, asking questions from time to time. When you finish she frowns, clearly worried.

"So you're telling me that spear was meant for you?" She asks after you finish. "Not only that, but the one who did it was some sort of shape-shifting demon?"

"It looks that way, at least." You answer. "But we don't know for sure who it is. All we've got so far is a description from Leonard, and that scar I gave it when it attacked me."

She tries once more to sit up, this time succeeding. She groans as she does, clearly still in pain from being stabbed in the sparring accident.

"Well, it's a start at least. Question is, where do we go from there?"

>"I'll try talking with Galadriel about it. Maybe she'll know something."
>"I'll check the library when I get a chance. There should be something about shapeshifting demons there."
>"I'll ask around, see if anyone knows something useful."
>"For now, we wait until Leonard gets back to us. He said he'd talk with the Knight-Captain about the guy who took the spears yesterday, so we should wait and see what they find out."

It's very alarming if the tower can be infiltrated so easily. We need countermeasures.
And of course overdrive paranoia to protect us from the human demon sympathisers.

"I'll try talking with Galadriel about it. Maybe she'll know something."

"Makes sense I guess. If anyone should know about demons, it's an angel."

You nod. "That's the idea at least. Mind if I meditate in here? I'm kind of worried about leaving you alone while your injured."

Erika chuckles. "Worried that demon will try to finish me off so he can impersonate me? I wish he'd try." To emphasize her point, she pulls a long dagger out from underneath her pillow. Well, if anything she's prepared at least.

With that, you pull Galadriel from it's sheath and lay it across your lap. You close your eyes and meditate, while Erika tucks her dagger back underneath her pillow.

-----
You've started getting used to this scene, as you open your eyes and see the familiar clouds and mountain peak before you. Galadriel stands on top of her mountain as usual, observing you from the top.

"You return." You hear he say in your mind. "But this time, I believe I know why."

"You know about what happened then?"

She nods. "To an extent, yes. You were attacked by a demon, that much I know. Though I do not know the details, I am sure you have come regarding what happened."

You nod. "That thing tried to kill me in an accident, but Erika got hurt instead. It's posing as someone in the tower now, and I need your help to find it."

"That is very serious. If the demon can change it's form, you will have to stay on your guard. I will help however I can, though I fear there is little I can do."

You nod. "Thank you. Is there anything that can draw a demon out, something that makes them drop their disguise?"

Galadriel thinks for a moment. "It depends on the demon in question, but yes. However, there are many demons capable of masking their form, so I will need to know more. Tell me, what did it look like?"

You tell her everything you can remember about the demon that attacked you last night. You tell her that it was short, had sharp teeth and a long tongue, sharp claws on it's hands, and every other detail you can remember. She waits for you to finish before she speaks again.

"From what you have described, it sounds like you are dealing with an Imp." She explains. "They are weak demons, but they make up for their lack of physical strength with their guile. It will likely try to attack you again when you are alone and unsuspecting, so be cautious."

"Okay, and how can I draw this imp out?"

"Some demons have a weak point which you can exploit if you know about them. Imps, however, do not have a specific weakness. However, all demons are attuned to one specific vice, such as envy, wrath, or greed. Imps, for the most part, are attuned to Greed, specifically Gluttony. You may be able to lure it out by tempting it with it's vice."
>>
>>38687797
"So what, just leave a trail of food lying around and see if someone takes the bait?"

Galadriel shakes her head. "No, not in this case at least. Imps do not care for the taste of mortal food, but for the taste of mortals themselves. By devouring mortals, they learn to take it's shape, becoming identical to what, or who, they ate. An animal may suffice, but what they truly desire is the flesh of humans, elves, and dwarves."

"You're not saying I should get someone to play bait, are you?"

"I do not like the idea either, but it is a possible course of action. Just be ready to jump into action should you choose to do so."

You shake your head. "Okay, what about something less risky? The sword seems to burn demons on contact, can't I just prod people with it until someone starts smoking?"

"It is possible, yes, but the sword would have to make direct contact with the imp's skin, unobstructed by armor or clothing. You would also have to find a subtle way of doing so, as it is unlikely the imp will willingly stand still while you try to do so, and if it escapes, it could easily assume a new form and disappear again."

You sigh. "Alright, at least that's a start. One that doesn't involve someone possibly getting eaten."

Gauntlets are weapons, right?
>>
>>38687817
"It had a scar after it transformed, right? So can't we just get everyone to go shirtless?"
>>
>>38687928
They can be, yes. Wearing a set of clothes and a single gauntlet would probably look a bit odd to people though.
>>
>>38687991
Two gauntlets, duh. How else are we going to get an original to copy?

But in all honesty, the smalles glove-type weapon that counts should work for regular day-to-day, while full gauntlets if people are expected to be on-guard. Unarmored brawlers don't need to be barehanded.
>>
>>38687991
So we grab a pair of gauntlets and have Galadriel replicate the one that goes on our strong hand. Then we go around being touchy, shaking everyone's hands.

I think we should get in touch with the guard captain, have him make an announcement that we're going on patrol or something to drum up interest and draw attention to ourselves, giving us an excuse to shake people's hands, pat them on the back and ruffle their hair.
>>
>>38688056
Maybe we can get the resident blacksmith will allow us access to his forge to make a convincing copy for our off hand.

Or baring that, we have Galadriel shift into a four finger ring, for maximum righteous swag.
>>
>>38687817
"Okay, so now I have an idea of how to draw it out at least. What about repelling it? Is there anything that can repel demons?"

"There are some things, yes, but most are specific to the type of demon in question. There is nothing is specific which repels imps, but there are spells which can deny them, or any sort of demon, entry to an area. However, these spells only function so long as the caster is focusing, and it is not restricted to demons. It would prevent angels, such as myself, from entering as well."

Huh, well there goes that idea then. Not having any more questions, you start to end the meditation, when Galadriel stops you.
>>
>>38688577
"Before you go, there is something I wish to do." She flaps her six wings and hovers down to where you are standing. "If you are to watch over my blade, and there is a demon running amok inside the tower, then I wish to keep a closer eye on you, in case this demon should try and catch you by surprise again."

Keeping a closer eye on you? It already feels like she's watching your every move when you come to see her in your meditation sessions, you shudder to think what it would be like to have her watching you even closer.

"How would you do that?" You ask nervously.

"For the time being, we are only able to converse when you are meditating, and I am only vaguely aware of what is happening in the outside world. If you would allow it though, I wish to open a telepathic bond between us, so that I may gain a clearer sense of what's happening in the outside world, and communicate with you outside of meditation. It will allow me to keep watch even while you are asleep, so that this demon cannot ambush you again."

You remember one of your nightmares from before, about the past champion who choked on his food while arguing with Galadriel. You suppose this is how they were able to communicate back then. From the sound of it, she's giving you a choice whether to allow it or not, so it's your decision. On one hand, an extra set of eyes could be useful, especially when said eyes belong to an angel. At the same time though, you're not exactly eager to have an angel watching your every move.

Sure, might be a good idea.

>>
>>38688646
You're not exactly eager to be watched by an angel, especially when said angel has really high standards for the people that use her sword, but an extra set of eyes or ten, or...you shake the memory away. In any case, having someone to watch your back could be useful with this imp running around.

"Alright, sure thing. Is there a way to block the connection if I want some privacy though?"

"It is possible, yes." She says. "But I would ask that you not block the connection too often. I cannot watch over you if you do so."

Well, as long as you can cut it off when you want, you don't mind.

"Alright, in that case fine. Having someone to watch my back could be useful, now more than ever."

She nods, and expands her six wings out. A golden disk of light forms over her head, and soon after one forms over yours as well. A line of light then forms between you, connecting the disks of light together. When the light dims, you feel a strange sort of presence in your mind, presumably Galadriel.

"It is done." She says. It's strange, but somehow her voice sounds clearer than before, less an echo and more like a voice directly in your mind.

>Congratulations! New power unlocked!
>Telepathic Link - You and Galadriel can now communicate mentally, even when not meditating. Galadriel is now able to perceive the outside world directly.
>This connection is assumed to be on unless specifically blocked, so be careful what you do!
>>
>>38689423
The connection now established, you start to end your meditation again, but not before saying one last thing.

"I didn't get to say this last time due to the, uh, incident with your other form, but uh...Thanks. For sticking with us mortals after the rest of the angels had left."

Galadriel is surprised. Before, you could garner a slight sense of Galadriel's emotions when you were speaking to her, but now you can sense it clearly. After a while, she speaks again.

"I appreciate your thanks, but do not thank me until I have succeeded in ridding your world of Malaphas and his demons."

With that done, you close your eyes and focus, ending the meditation.

-----
When you open your eyes, you see that you are back in Erika's room. Erika is sitting on her bed, waiting for you to return to consciousness again.

"You're back." She says, noticing you return to normal. "Well, did you learn anything useful? What happened?"

>"The demon is an imp. And I don't think it's limited to one human form."
>"Well, I learned that the thing trying to kill me likes to eat. Which would help for drawing it out, if it wasn't for the fact that what it eats is people."

Second, I learned it likes to eat, which would help for drawing it out if it wasn't for the fact that what it eats is people. And finally, I found out Galadriel doesn't have to cut demons to burn them, so now I have to find a way to touch people with it without making it obvious what I'm doing. Then I guess I just keep poking people until something burns."

Erika listens to you explain what you learned, then starts to ask you a question. Before she can though, you decide to add one other nugget of info to what you just told her.

"Oh yeah, and Galadriel's decided to start watching me in case that demon comes back. Say hi."

Whatever question she was about to ask seems to immediately fly out of her mind, as she is taken aback by this last reveal.

"Wait, you're saying she's...? Oh shi-, I mean, uh...hi? Hello?" She says nervously, reaching a hand up to fix her hair.

In the back of your mind, you feel a sense of confusion coming from Galadriel. You hear a familiar voice speak to you within your mind.

'You are aware she cannot hear me, correct?'

Erika continues to look around the room like a fool, as though she's expecting Galadriel to just appear from nowhere and say something.

>'I kind of figured, I just wanted to see how she'd react.'

'It's not the first time you've met her?'

'She has tried more than once to lift my blade in the past. She is a good person, but too reckless.'

It's at this point, you decide it's time to inform Erika, who is still looking around like a fool, that Galadriel can't speak with her.

"She can't talk back, doofus, but she can see. She says hello."

"...Oh." Erika says, embarrassed. Seems she's only realizing now how stupid she looked a moment ago. She clears her throat. "In any case though, what do we do now? There's a lot of people in the Watchtower, are you planning to just line them all up and test Galadriel on them one at a time or something?"

>"No, but I do have a plan. I think I'll see if I can switch Galadriel into a gauntlet or something, go around shaking people's hands. Might take a while, but if their hand starts smoking I'll know it's him."

>"Well, Galadriel did say the imp could be drawn out with the proper bait. We could use that."

We can use bait to lure him out, that'll be much quicker than going around everyone in the tower. Besides, it'll have less of a chance to slip away into the crowd that way. Also, we got a description of the last human form it used, so we can keep an eye out for that.

This is time to think like a guardsman.
>>

>>
>>38690711
What are you thinking for bait? Dead animal? Live human that it would want to have as a form? Dead human?
>>
>>38690779
Well if it has to be a live human, perhaps we can employ someone who would seem like an easy target, in a time and place the Imp would think they're alone and helpless. Maybe somebody close to us, that might appeal to an Imp looking for a way to get close to us to take us out. What if we got Erica fully healed up and had her walk around in a sling or something like that. Send her out into an isolated area late at night while we watch on from a distance ready to jump in and stab demon?

We can keep an eye out for a person matching the description of the last human form the Imp used too, young male with dark hair if I recall correctly. If we catch sight of him anywhere we could have our bait wander through a secretive spot where the Imp might try and take a shot at easy prey.

Any thoughts?

"So what, you just plan to give everybody you meet a handshake? Do you know how many people there are inside the tower?"

You shrug. "True, but considering the alternative is to use somebody as bait, I think I'd rather try my luck with the gauntlets."

Erika thinks for a moment. "Well, like you said, I'm sort of a target for the imp now, so-"

Before she can finish that sentence, there's a knock on the door. "Siegfried? Are you in there?"

Erika starts to get up to answer the door, but winces and grabs at the spot where the spear stabbed her.

"I've got it, don't push yourself." You tell her, getting up to answer the door. Opening the door, you are greeted by Roland, holding two plates of food. It's only now that you realize you've probably missed breakfast.

"There you are." Roland says, stepping inside. "I didn't see you guys at breakfast, so I asked the others if they'd seen you. They told me what happened, so I thought I'd come to bring you breakfast." He hands you one of the plates he's carrying, then hands the other to Erika. "Good to see you're up Erika. From what the others told me, I wasn't sure you'd be up and about."

"So the others told you what happened?" You ask Roland, getting started on your own breakfast. You hadn't realized it until now, but you're actually pretty hungry yourself. "How much did they tell you, exactly?"

He frowns. "Everything, I think. They said there was an accident on the training field, and that you went off to investigate. They said that when you came back, you said you were attacked by a demon, and that the spear that nearly killed Erika was meant for you. Is what they said true, Siegfried? Is there really a demon hiding amongst us somewhere?"

>"You heard right. And I just learned more from Galadriel too."
>"It's true. I wish they hadn't told you though, no offense. This is something that needs to be kept a secret for the time being, so please keep it a secret."
>"Sounds like they were just messing with you. Don't worry about it, Erika just had a nasty accident, that's all." Lie

"Well it is, but before I tell you anything else, I need you to stand still for a second."

He raises an eyebrow curiously, but does so. You shift Galadriel into a gauntlet, and quickly shake his hand. A moment passes, and nothing happens.

'He's fine' Galadriel says. 'This man is not the imp in disguise.'

You breath a sigh of relief, and shift Galadriel back into it's normal form. Roland looks at you curiously, clearly confused.

"What was that all about?"

You shake you head. "Just a precaution, sorry. Galadriel can burn demons on contact, and I just had to be sure."

"Then...it's true? There really is a demon hiding amongst us?"

You nod. "It's true. I wish they hadn't told you though, no offense. This is something that needs to be kept a secret for the time being, so please keep it a secret."

"A secret, why? If there's a demon hiding in the ranks, then shouldn't the others know? We should have them all gather around, have you go around and test them the way you did me."

You shake your head. "No way. This thing is clever, and I don't think it's limited to just one form. We raise the alarm, it'll just run off and change it's form, putting us back to square one."

Roland swears in a foreign tongue. "Then what do we do? We can't just sit around and wait for it to act again."

"I've already got a plan, don't worry. I'm just going to grab another gauntlet like what I turned Galadriel into and start shaking hands. They'll think I'm just being social, and then if one of them starts burning, we'll know who it is."

"Which is going to take forever, like I said." Erika says, already finished with her meal. "If what you need is bait, then I don't mind being it if it'll help you catch the bastard."

"Bait? What bait?" Roland asks. You explain everything Galadriel told you, and how you might be able to lure the demon out. When you finish, he thinks. "Well, I must say that I am with Siegfried. It may take a while, but if the alternative is to risk someone's life, I think it would be preferable to take our time."

"We don't have time." Erika says stubbornly. "If this thing wants Siegfried dead, I don't think it'll just wait around for him to come find it. What if it tries to poison his food or something while he's still looking for it, or attacks him while he's alone?"

"I do not think it would be so easy to poison his food, not when the food is placed on the grand tables for anyone to grab. They'd more likely poison someone else by mistake, and give themselves away. And besides, Siegfried can take care of himself, especially with Galadriel at his side."

You listen to the two of them debate what your next course of action should be. Both of them raise some valid points, but they also both have their downsides. In the end, you decide to

Do the drunken act? It might also put the enemy at a disadvantage, seeing as we are partying while doing the gauntlet thing. The enemy might think that there is something fishy here, and might rush the plan or act suspiciously enough to stand out. Cause going social all of a sudden after an attempt might raise a few eyebrows.

I would prefer to let Erica heal a bit more before using her as bait. My entire idea of using her to lure out the Imp is sort of contingent on her just seeming to be wounded, while she can still in fact defend herself or flee if this bastard gets the drop on her.

In the mean time,

I'd recommend a huge ass drunken party involving nearly the entire watchtower, but then I remembered that there isn't enough alcohol left in the entire order to get even two people drunk.
>>
>>38692089

I assumed that we are going to be social by doing all that handshakes/pats in the back, but that raises suspicion we did not even interact that much outside of those that we caught fancy with. doing the drunken act might cause the enemy to go and think that there is something being cooked up, since our guard is still low after that attempt on our life. And he might fumble in what ever plans he had.

Sorry if I rambled, alcohol's in blood.

You'd rather not use Erika as bait, but she does have a point.

"Alright, you've made your point." You tell her, ending the debate between her and Roland. "I hate to ask you this, but you're right, just shaking hands and hoping I just bump into the imp will take too long. That said, I'm not going to risk it while you're still injured. I want you to stay here and heal up first, at least to the point where you can run or defend yourself, and then after that we can try and bait this thing out."

"'Until I can defend myself'? What are you talking about, I can do that right no-" Erika tries to make her point by grabbing the dagger from earlier and standing up, but winces when she tries to stand, sitting back down on the bed."Alright, alright, maybe not."

You chuckle. Even after nearly being killed, she's as stubborn as usual. "Alright, good. Once you're feeling better we can try and bait the imp out, but for now you should take it easy and get some rest."

Roland nods. "I agree. I still don't like this idea of using someone as bait, but if you're willing to wait until you can fight back, I suppose it is a fair plan. If there is anything I can do to help though, please let me know."

You nod. "I appreciate it Roland, thanks."

"It is no problem. But in any case, I believe the first training session of the day is starting soon, so I must go. What about you Siegfried, are you going as well?"

>Stay and keep watch. Erika's still a target, so you're sure the instructors will understand.

Shake the healer's hand with Galadriel, then tell him/her to not let anyone with a big chest scar into the room.

Get Daniel. Check if he's real and fill him in. Have him guard Erika for the time being and when magic practice starts get Justine to switch.

Daniel is our best bet. Get him to watch over Erika. Check him if he's the imp. Fill him in on the details. After morning training ask Justine if she wants to help with watching over Erika. Check her and fill her in on the details.

This will help those two get along with each other.

Also ask Daniel if we can make magic dog-tags for everyone and after we check someone so we can bind it to that person so it can't be stolen or used by a demon.
This should become a standard security procedure in the tower.
>>
>>38692564
>magic dog tags

That seems very...specific for how magic seems to be here.
>>
>>38692635
The tower is known for their enchantments.
We just need dog tags that can be checked easily and no one can fake them. Thus we save our self the trouble. Anyone without a dog tag is distrusted immediately and their security clearance is low.

You shake your head. "Not yet. I want to wait until Daniel or some other healer gets here so they can watch over Erika. Then I'll head to training."

Roland nods. "That is a fair idea. Wait here, I'll see if I can find Daniel and send him here."

Not long after Roland leaves, you get another knock on the door, this time from Daniel.

"I was told by Roland that you wished to see me?" He asks. He looks concerned, you suppose Justine and Joan told him what happened as well.

"Yeah, I did. I need to head to training, but I didn't want to leave Erika alone. But first, hold still."

Once again you shift Galadriel into the form of a gauntlet, and grab Daniel's hand. When nothing happens, you let him go and change Galadriel back. He looks confused, so you explain.

"Just a safety precaution. I'm guessing the others told you what happened?"

He nods. "Yes, I'm afraid so. Is Erika alright?"

"I'm fine Daniel, no need to worry." Erika says from inside the room. Daniel visibly relaxes after hearing her, and sighs in relief.

"Well then, that is good to hear then. Now, I believe you wanted me to watch over her while you're at training?"

You nod. "I'd appreciate it. I'll send someone else to go watch over her later, but if you could make sure she's safe while I'm gone, I'd appreciate it."

He smiles. "No thanks are necessary friend, I was planning to stop by later to check on her anyways, make sure she was healing well. But you had better be off to the training yard, I believe training has already started."

You thank him, and are about to leave when Erika stops you.

"Hey, uh Siegfried?" You stop at the door and turn back.

"Yeah?"

"Just wanted to say thanks. You know, for watching me while I was out and stuff."

You smile. "Don't worry about it, just focus on getting better." And with that, you head for the training yard, hoping Leonard will understand your tardiness.

"Siegfried, you're late. Is everything okay?"

"Yeah, everything's fine. Was just watching over Erika, sorry."

"Ah, I see. How's she doing?"

"She's fine now. Still hurt, but she's awake at least."

"That's good to hear. Of course, I think there's someone else here who would appreciate that knowledge more than me over there." He points over to Justine, practicing at the training dummies. She looks different from usual though, or rather, she seems distracted. Her jabs seem half-hearted, like there's something on her mind. Seems she still feels guilty for what happened last night.

"I'll go tell her the news. Thank you sir." Leonard gives you an affirmative grunt, and you head to where Justine is practicing.

"She's doing fine. She's still hurt, but she woke up this morning."

"That's good."

You nod. "Yeah. Besides that though, I learned more about the one responsible today." You avoid using the word demon, as you're now standing in public, where anyone can hear you.

"What did you find out?"

"I'll tell you later, when there's less people around." You whisper. "But that reminds me, you shouldn't have told Roland and Daniel everything that happened. This is something we really need to keep low-key, even with the people we know."

"You're right, sorry. I just told Daniel and Roland, no one else."

She stops, no longer jabbing at the dummies. She sighs, and turns to face you.

"I'm not sure Siegfried. Isn't there someone else you can ask to do it?"

"Why, do you not want to?"

"No, it's..." She trails off. You get the gist of what she means though, even if she doesn't say it.

"Look, you shouldn't beat yourself up so much about what happened last night, it was an accident"

"But I'm still responsible." She says flatly.

"Like I said, it was an accident. You're not the one who put the spear there, so don't blame yourself."

She thinks for a moment, then sighs. "I suppose you're right. But still, I am responsible whether I put the spear there or not. I agreed to the match, and I'm the one who stabbed her. Even if I didn't mean to, it doesn't change the fact I did it."

You sigh, and excuse yourself to grab a weapon from the weapon rack.

"Want to spar? Might help take your mind off of thing."

She looks at you, looks down at her spear, and nods weakly. "Sure."
>>
>>38693304
Compared to the other times you've sparred her, Justine is doing terribly this time around. You suppose it's because of the guilt distracting her. Thankfully though, after being knocked down a few times, she finally starts to focus. A bit later, she's sparring like normal, which you take to mean you've successfully gotten her mind off of what happened.

When you both finally finish sparring, Justine looks like she's back to her old self for the most part. You suppose that now would be a good time to ask again.

"You know, if you feel guilty, maybe you should go see Erika. I'm sure she'll tell you the same thing I did."

She considers it for a moment, still looking hesitant, but finally she nods.

"Alright, I'll go. If anything, I should go and apologize anyways."

You nod. "Good. I'll send someone to switch shifts with you later. But first, hold still for a sec." Just as you did with Roland and Daniel, you switch Galadriel into the form of a gauntlet and grab her hand. Again nothing happens, and you shift Galadriel back into it's normal form.

"What was that for?" She asks.

You shake your head. "Nothing, just a precaution. Can't be too careful, after all. In any case though, go and see Erika, tell Daniel when you see him that I'm waiting in the training room."

She nods. "Alright then. And Siegfried?"

"Yes?"

"Let me know when you find the one responsible for what happened. I want to pay him back for what happened personally."

The way she says that sends a chill down your spine. You hope for the imp's sake that it's you that finds him first and not Justine.

"Will do."

Justine nods, and the two of you part ways, Justine towards Erika's room, and you towards the magic training room.

'Though she and Erika seem to despise each other, that girl is quite noble.' Galadriel says after you part ways with Justine.

'They may hate each other, but anyone would feel guilty after nearly killing someone.' You respond. 'Hate or not, they're both still god people.'

You decide it would be best to head to the chapel for meditation. Even if you can talk to Galadriel at will now, you should at least go to let her know you don't have to meditate anymore. And besides, it's still a chance to talk to Galadriel.

When you arrive at the chapel, you see the elf priest inside as usual. She turns to face you when she hears the doors open and smiles.

"Hello Siegfried, how are you doing."

"Fine, thank you. I need to talk with you about something though."

"Is it about Erika? How is she doing?"

"She's fine, thank you. But no, that's actually not it. Because of some recent developments, I don't think I'll need to come here and meditate anymore."

She raises an eyebrow. "Why is that?"

You explain what happened to her, making sure to leave out the parts about the imp.

"So basically, I'm able to talk with her at will now, so I'm not sure I need to meditate here anymore."

She nods. "Is that so? Well, the Knight-Captain wanted you to come in and meditate every day, but if you can talk to Galadriel all the time now, I suppose I could talk him into letting you go. Although you should probably stay around for today at least, until I get the chance to let him know."

You nod. "Alright then, thank you."

>>38693548
You take a seat in the pews once again, this time not meditating, but just sitting there, talking with Galadriel about the imp, amongst other things. The priest just quietly performs her duties, cleaning the chapel, recording things in a large book sitting in the front of the chapel on the podium, and a few other things as well. After a while though, you see she starts to gather her things together.

"Sorry to leave you here alone." She says from the podium, still gathering her things. "But I have a few things I need to do outside of the chapel today. I hope you don't mind.

You shrug. "Not at all."

She smiles. "Thank you. I should be back in about an hour, but your time meditating should be over by then, so in about thirty minutes you can go ahead and leave. I'll talk to the Knight-Captain tomorrow and let him know what's happened, so you don't have to worry about coming back tomorrow."

You thank her, and shortly after the priest leaves, carrying her books with her. You still have about thirty minutes left before you can leave without the Knight-Captain getting on to you, so now the question is just what to do in that time.

'That is Halphas, one of the demon lords slain in the Great Crusade. I saw one of my fellow seraphs shoot an arrow through all three of his heads at once, killing him for good.'

'Alright, and what about this one that's riding a dragon or...something?'

'That is Eligos, another of the demon lords. He still lives to this day, as one of the four remaining demon lords.'

'Yikes. And what about this angel here with eight wings, do you recognize him?'

'By those wings, I would say that is Rathanael, for I know few others of my kind with as many wings as he.'

'That so? What about this one with the flaming wings?'

You hear what sounds like a soft chuckle come from the back of your mind. 'That is me, and I believe this glass depicts the Battle of Avros, where we routed the armies of Malaphas and I slew Marbas, the demon with the fiery mane there.'

'Whoa, seriously? Alright, well what about the small guy here?'

'Imp'

'Really? The one I saw was a lot smaller than-'

'No, IMP! Watch out!'

You're caught off guard, but thanks to the enchantment on your clothes, you manage to just barely move out of the way in time, as a pair of razor sharp claws grazes you.

>19/20 HP

However, realizing you're under attack, you give the attacking imp a kick after it lands, knocking it into the pews. It stands up quickly though, and lets out an angry hiss.

You recognize the scar across it's chest. This is the same one that attacked you last night. It's wounds seem to have already healed, but you can still see the white scars where Galadriel cut him.

You quickly shift Galadriel from it's sword form into a whip, and crack at the imp as hard as you can.

The imp tries to dodge, but the whip cracks him on the chest, leaving an angry red burn mark where it lashed him.

You crack the whip at him a second time, and this time he puts his arm up to block it. The whip wraps around his right arm, and you can hear the sound of it burning his arm, but he snarls and bears it, and tries to pull you in with it.

Rather than letting yourself get pulled, you plant your feet and pull as hard as you can on the whip, successfully drawing the imp towards you. Then quickly, you switch to your axe, and give the imp a hard vertical chop.

The axe connects, and severs the imp's arm from his body. The imp lets out a horrible shriek, and lands face down on the ground behind you, it's arm sitting at your foot.

Realizing the odds are against it, the imp picks itself up and scampers away, bashing the door open and gripping where it's arm once was. It must be in a real panic, because it doesn't even bother to change it's shape.

I don't think Sieg has any formal education with weapons, as a guard being armed at all as long as uniformed was apparently enough to get him through working day.

You said you had to make the shot count, and make it count you did, as the crossbow bolt flies true and strikes it in the back of the knee, severing it's right leg and sending it face first into the ground.

And with good timing too, as the priest from earlier turns the corner just a hair ahead of where the imp lands. She looks utterly shocked, looking at the battered imp and then back at you, mouth agape.

"What on Earth?!" She exclaims, the usual calmness of her voice forgotten. The imp, now missing an arm and a leg, whimpers pathetically on the ground.

>"Sorry about that ma'am, excuse me while I finish this thing off." Kill the imp.
>"Oh man, what timing. Uh, sorry about the mess in the chapel, this little bastard attacked me while you were gone."

A proficiency modifier depending how much we practice with a certain weapon.
+5 to ordinary level, +10 for being decent with it,+15 for being an expert with that weapon type.

Also can we add the idea of the weapon being strengthened by absorbing something like demon blood or cores?

Not really doing weapon proficiencies. As a guard, Siegfried would have at least basic training with most weapons from basic training, though as a guard he usually used a shield and sword. The way I do bonuses is basically Basic level of experience fighting in general+situational bonuses that are appropriate.

"Sorry about that, just dealing with the thing responsible for Erika's injury yesterday. Could you do me a favor and back away from the imp a bit? It's missing an arm and a leg now, but it's still got sharp teeth."

The priest, seemingly still thunderstruck by the sudden injured demon in front of her, does as you say and backs away some. The imp tries to crawl away when you approach, but you step down on it's back, pinning it to the ground and hold Galadriel, now in sword form again, next to it's cheek.

'Think we could interrogate him?' You ask Galadriel in your mind.

'It is possible.' She responds. 'Imps are known cowards when cornered. If there is anything you want him to tell you, he'll probably do so now, although whether it will be the truth or not I cannot say.'

The imp looks up at you from the ground, clearly afraid.

"Excuse me, priestess?"

"O-oh, yes?"

"Could you do me a favor and go get Justine, Erika, and the Knight-Captain for me? I think they'd like to have a word with our little friend here."

"Oh. Sure, just, uh, just be careful around that thing, would you?"

You nod. "Don't worry about me, I have this covered."

The priestess leaves back down the hallway she came from, leaving you alone with the imp. You have questions for the little bastard, but maybe you should scare him a little more, just in case he gets any ideas about lying to you.

"Man there was something about punishing liars with easy things, but i forgot it. It went something like this. Ask easy question, they answer. Ask other easy question, they make a slight mistake, you cut their finger off and ask the question again. I forgot the source for it though."

Well that seemed to work, because now the imp has gone absolutely wide-eyed. He tries to move again, but your foot is planted firmly, and he goes nowhere.

"Alright now, question one. How long have you been hiding amongst the tower's ranks?"

Nothing. Well, if that's the way it's going to be, you'll just take Galadriel and-

"No! No kill! I tell you, I tell you! Twenty years, I come to tower twenty years ago."

Well, never mind then. All it took was a little raise of the sword and the imp starts confessing in it's shrill voice.

"Alright then, now for question number two. How exactly did you sneak in here?"

"I come disguise as human, pretend to be crusader. Change face when people get suspicious. They not expect anything, not since king stop attacking."

That easy huh? You make a mental note to tell the Knight-Captain he needs to tighten security here after you finish with this guy.

"Alright, now for my last question. Are there more of you?"

The imp is silent. Clearly he doesn't want to answer, which means there probably are more. You heft Galadriel again, this time shifting it into an axe, like what you used to cut off it's arm, and heft it over your head.

Finally, the imp breaks. "Yes! Yes, there more. One other hiding, here much longer than I."

You put the axe down. "Alright, then who is it?"

Once again, silence. You're about to heft your axe again, when suddenly the priestess returns.

"I'm back, I brought the others." She tells you.

"Oh, good. Maybe my friends will make you a little more talkative." You say threateningly. You think you can actually see the imp gulp.

Taking your foot off the imp, you walk to the corner of the hallway to greet the others. Considering the imp is missing an arm and a leg, you doubt he could crawl away fast enough to escape, especially when the only way out is towards you.

"Well hello everyone, why don't you come help me talk some sense into-" You stop your sentence. There's no one here.

'Behind you!' Galadriel shouts in your mind, but when you turn around it's too late. The priestess, whispering an incantation, fires some sort of green projectile at you. Suddenly, you feel very tired.

The last things you can remember before passing out is falling to the floor and seeing the priestess grinning down at you. She steps towards you, and though you will your body to get up and fight, it does not respond. Your eyelids grow heavy, and you feel yourself being lifted up before falling asleep...
