This quest really went to shit.

So I've got an idea and it's probably crazy but hear me out on this. What if we unlocked Bulma's and Dr. Brief's ki and ki sense and let them do experiments and research with it? Then they can write a book on their finding and this rather esoteric knowledge to the public light.

And then during the 7 years of peace after Cell, we get Krillin, Yamcha, Tien, and Chaotzu to resurrect the Turtle and Crane schools and start teaching people about ki-enhanced martial arts.

What do you guys think?

"Can I see Gero's journals?" you ask.

Bulma nods slowly. "Yes, but I should probably warn you, some of the stuff in there is, well, it's pretty disturbing."

She walks over to a nearby table and grabs some journals, walking over and handing them to you. Looking at the covers, you see one titled "Artificial Human Program" and the other titled "The Cell Project".

"Any chance I could get that fruit back?" you ask.

"Yeah, I'll get it for you before you leave," Bulma tells you.

"Android Sixteen is living on my farm," you inform her. "Should I bring him in? Do you think that you could upgrade him?"

She frowns. "I don't know about upgrades, but bringing him in might be a good idea. I was doing some reading, and Gero planted explosive devices in every Android starting with number eight. We might want to remove that, or it could be bad."

"It was a failsafe if they went rogue, or a last resort if they encountered an opponent they couldn't beat," Bulma explains.

"Does Cell have one too?" you ask.

"I'm not sure, but I wouldn't doubt it," Bulma answers.

"Did Seventeen and Eighteen have explosives?" you ask. "They were cyborgs, not Androids."

She nods. "Yes, Gero planted explosive devices in them."

"I think I'm going to go find Goku," you tell her. "Could I have that fruit?"

"Yeah, I'll go get it. Wait here," Bulma instructs before leaving the room.

While you wait, you look down at the two journals in your hand, one about the Androids, one about Cell.

"The drones are done, and just in time, it seems," it says. "A curious development has taken place, and provided me with an opportunity to gather more cells. Earlier today, an object from another world crashed on a farm out in the country. And inside the object war a creature remarkably similar to a human, except for one curious feature. My suspicions of a connection between the two was proven correct by my surveillance drones, which discovered that the Alien was Goku's brother. The harvester drones were able to gather some cells from the alien known as Raditz, and, better still, the surveillance drones were able to gather a significant amount of data during a battle between Raditz, Goku, Piccolo, and a young boy, apparently named Kaguya, strangely enough. "Number thirteen is a fully mechanical perpetual energy model," the journal explains. "After the failures involving Numbers Eleven and Twelve, I have decided to forgo creating cyborgs and instead stick to full Androids. In addition, I have determined that perpetual energy models are simply more efficient. As usual, I have kept the appearance of this model human, and even programmed him with the mannerisms and vocal patterns of a redneck. I have also decided to give Number Thirteen the ability to salvage parts from other models and integrate them into his own design."

You flip to the page on Android 14.

"Android Fourteen is, like his predecessor, a perpetual energy model, and entirely mechanical," the journal explains. "While Thirteen was designed with an eye towards blending in, Fourteen has a rather offputting appearance, and doesn't speak much. He is simply programmed to coldly and efficiently carry out his orders, and with his level of power, I believe He will be more than capable of dealing with Goku."

You turn the page.

"Android Fifteen is quite similar in programming to Number Fourteen," the journal explains. "In fact, as I constructed number Fifteen, I made some alterations to the programing of Fourteen so that the two would be more able to work together and exchange information. Fifteen's appearance is far less intimidating, and he is far smaller in stature. However, he has displayed greater intelligence and personality than his predecessor, I consider him a successful project."

"Goku's power has been increasing over the years, despite the fact that he has settled down and started a family. For this reason, I feared that Fourteen and Fifteen might not be enough. So, I sought to create a model with enough power to crush Goku effortlessly. Number Sixteen was modeled in appearance after my fallen son, but the infernal machine has proven to be a colossal disappointment. While his power is every bit as great as I'd hoped for, he does not follow my orders properly, refusing to accept any command other than eliminating Goku. "I happened upon a pair of runaways who were being pursued by the North City Police. It was a simple matter to bring them to my lab, simply by offering to hide them and give them some food. The two are quite young, and in surprisingly good physical condition for a pair of delinquents. They are siblings, a boy named Lapis, and a girl named Lazuli. After Numbers Eleven and Twelve, I expected never to create cyborgs again, but my research in that field has given me plenty of knowledge, and I am confident that this time, I can do things right. Some sedatives and the confiscation of the gun Lapis was carrying will keep them from escaping, and soon my work can begin."

There is a chance that they may attempt to take their own lives if they know what's coming. So, it will have to be a surprise."

"The process began today. I sedated the two and brought them to the surgery tables, which, I haven't had to make use of since Numbers Eleven and Twelve. The procedure requires that the patients be awake, and Lapis gave quite a good indication of the agony the procedure caused him. It was difficult to keep him from dying of shock from what was happening, but, unlike with previous failures, he survived the procedure, though the effect it will have on his mental state remains to be seen. Lazuli, usually the quiet one, was rather vocal as I operated on her brother, shouting curses and promises that she would end my life. One wonders about player agency.
Yes, we obviously have choices, but will our choices affect the gameworld?
I suppose I shouldn't complain. IC, beating Cell is far more important than any other character interactions or gaining knowledge about anything else.
But I'm a bit bummed that our choices are basically limited to "Give it our all training for Cell. Not a single minute wasted." or "Die. Your choices ultimately changed nothing."

Then again, all I have to do is remember a certain other quest to remind myself what complete lack of player agency ACTUALLY looks like, and thank Dralo for the opportunities he (or she) has given us so far.

Still a bit worried though. I know we've made bad choices, but have we screwed ourselves so thoroughly to the point where Cell is now a death sentence?

I'm pretty sure we'll be at the 50/50 level we were told. It's just that we as a player base didn't realize that going from weaker opponents to stronger opponents with the cuffs was such a suboptimal choice, we had assumed that just going for the most powerful sparring partner wouldn't speed up our improvement any and would slow their improvement.

Then thats doing the damn Kaz plan we wanted to implement last thread, taking the cuffs off, having them catch up to us Superhuman style, then putting stronger cuffs on, rinse repeat.

We have our plan, whats the issue?
