Welcome to Banished Quest!
You take the role of a young mage labeled a criminal by his people and cast out into the wider world. In the last thread you departed El-Amin by sea, read a book, and steered a boat.

It is currently the 4th of Svarthi, in the year 936 NH.

You enjoy the fresh sea air in your lungs and the cool mist against your skin. It's a welcome reprieve from the city at noon, both the stench and the heat. You remain above deck just long enough to see that the ship is turning west and sailing along the waterfront of El-Amin. Eventually you grow board of watching the city drift by and turn once more towards the door to the officer's quarters, ducking through the squat doorway and making swift progress through the narrow corridor beyond.

When you once more find yourself in the cramped quarters you've been provided, you strip down to your trousers. Your turban, cloak, vest, and shirt are tossed on your bed while your boots are kicked aside. Once stripped you go through a series of stretches, pulling your legs up behind your back and your arms across your chest. Last time you used this technique, you were so sore that you could barely move for days afterwards. You'd like to at least try to avoid that this time around.

You sit down, folding your legs into the lotus position. You close your eyes, and let your consciousness slip away. As you sink deep into a meditative trance you begin to gather vys, replenishing your reserves slowly and gradually. It's surprisingly easy, out on the open ocean. The water is practically alive with vys, as far as your mind can perceive. You find that with your reserves full you feel somehow imperceptibly different. Sturdier, for lack of a better word.

With your reserves full, you begin to slowly channel vys. You feel your skin grow hard, and your muscles tense. Carefully, you place your hands upon the ground and lift yourself into the air, contorting yourself slowly such that you're able to wrap your legs around one of your arms, supporting yourself on your hands. From there you twist yourself a position where you're supporting the weight of your body with your head and hands, your legs held straight up in the air above you. Finally you let your legs fall backwards, arching your back as your feet hit the wooden floor.

You slide smoothly from one pose to another, your body slowly hardening as you twist yourself into all variety of seemingly impossible shapes. You find yourself with both legs behind your head, supporting yourself in mid air horizontally with only your arms while your calves are pressed flat against your thighs, at one point you even find yourself standing on your own biceps while performing a hand stand.

You lose track of time as you fall into a comfortable routine, always sliding smoothly into a lotus position at the end of each cycle. You focus on what the magic is doing to your flesh, your movements becoming progressively slower yet strangely easier as more and more of your flesh takes on a metallic shine.

Whilst supporting yourself on your elbows, torso perpendicular to the wooden floor and one foot pressed against the top of your head while the other rest against the opposite thigh, something clicks. Your body has been screaming out in pain this entire time, desperately telling you that no mortal man ought to be able to bend like this. That your joints are moments away from splitting open. Yet, you've easily ignored the pain. It hasn't even registered until this very moment.
>Vys Pool: (51/51)
>Congratulations! You're now Vatis Rank in Metal Magic!

Slowly resuming the lotus pose you started in, twisting your body until you can sit once more on the floor, you ponder your ability to block out pain. It's not a new phenomena. You're forced to wonder if it's really magic at all, or if perhaps you're merely enhancing a natural ability rather than performing some impossible task. Unfortunately your thoughts are interrupted by a loud knocking on your door, pulling you out of the shallow remnants of your meditative trance.

Pain surges through you as you open your eyes. Pani's bountiful breast, you can't feel your legs. You can't feel anything from the neck down. You're paralyzed. You try to wiggle your toes, and are relieved to find that you're still able, but attempting anything more strenuous proves an impossible task.

You try channeling some water magic to heal yourself, but it's useless. You're not actually injured, it's just soreness. Grabbing hold of the edge of your bed, you pull yourself to your feet. You're dripping sweat, it's fortunate you had the presence of mind to take off your shirt.

Hobbling to the door you tug it open, finding the same boy who came bothering you earlier standing before you. He flinches at the sight of you, but at least he manages to form a coherent sentence on his first try this time. “S-sir, the Captain told me to fetch you and tell you that rations are being served in the hold.”

Your stomach growls angrily. Apparently that workout left you with quite the appetite.

Would crazy yoga help with dodging?
>>
>>38666112
Yo soma quick question did we do anything special surpassing 50 Vys? when we hit on spice we capped at 50 just wondering if it was a special number.
>>
>>38666206
Not particularly. It's a mile stone, but spice simply doubles your maximum vys for a short while. So if you dosed up on spice now, your max vys would be 102. Spice also removes any limits on spending vys.
>>
>>38666270
So could we wear Warnock armour comfortably now?
Also any thought about crazy yoga helping us?
I know yoga c as n help from escaping things.
>>
Next med should be Point Offense, or Earth/Nature for easy vys.
Soma, we know Point Defense now, right? Or do we need to meditate on it to fully learn it?
>>
It suck how this Hardcore Yoga will pretty much never be used by mik since no BQ player would ever not use armor.
>>

Try it, Anon. Find out.

If you do this particular type of meditation enough, you'll eventually get some sort of fitness bonus to certain actions.

Soma, what bonus would trying to turn metal liquid without heat give to meditation? How about sublimating metal without heat? Having tiny pellets/balls separate and float in the air as we command them? Turning a piece of ore into pure metal by transmuting? Turnig a crystal into metal while keeping its structure? Levitating ores by moving just the metal in them? Going colossus and the manipulating our body, having pellets, spikes or blades separate and float above us?

Shut your trap you, you double nigger!
>>
You shoo the boy away. “I'll be there in a moment, allow me to change and freshen myself.” There's no real harm in joining the rest of the crew for dinner, and to be perfectly honest you could really go for a nice, hearty meal right about now. Something hot, and preferably rich. You need to replenish your energy after a strenuous exercise like that.

The boy seems all too happy to leave you alone, and you shut the door as he retreats up the stairs. Quickly condensing some water from the air, a simple task considering you're on a boat in the middle of the ocean, you heat it with a touch of water magic and allow it to cascade onto your head. You give yourself a rudimentary wash and then dry yourself using magic. The cost to your reserves is negligible.

Feeling refreshed, you quickly dress yourself. You decide not to wear your turban, since a glance out your window reveals that the sun has gone down hours ago. You debate whether or not you should wear your cloak, considering it can be rather unsettling in the dark. Ultimately you decide the benefit of wearing it outweighs the risk of scaring the crap out of some of the crew.

Thus dressed, you slip out the door of your cabin and shut it firmly behind you. It's a short walk up the stairs and out onto the deck. As you leave the lantern-lit hallway of the officer's quarters, your cloak melts into a semi-ethereal wreath of shadows which cling to your form, allowing you to appear for all intents and purposes as a vengeful wraith. Instead of walking, you appear to drift across the deck, floating noiselessly across the wet wooden planks.

Fortunately the hold seems to be well lit, and you can hear at least a dozen voices inside. You reach down and lift the hatch, letting it clatter to the deck loudly before descending the steps. Your cloak shifts smoothly into corporeality once exposed to the lantern light of the hold.

You find that the crew seems to consist of about fourteen men all told, though there was a watchman and a steersman above deck, so you suppose that would be sixteen total plus yourself makes seventeen. A rather large crew for a vessel of this size. Conversation seems to have stalled with your entrance, all eyes in the room turning warily towards you. Save those of the Captain, who stands to greet you warmly. “Mikhael! Come, take a seat. I'm afraid our rations are meager but the gruel is hot, the liquor is strong, and the salted pork is tough as shoe leather.”

You oblige the Captain, picking your way through the hold to take a seat at the long communal table that the crew seems to eat at. You pluck up a bowl from a small stack next to a brass pot, ladling out a generous helping of thin gruel into your wooden bowl. It seems to be oat-based, and they've added sliced apples and cinnamon to the mix to make it slightly more appealing. There seems to be nothing one could possibly do to make the salt pork appealing, but you take a few slabs anyway. After all, a balanced diet is important. Finally you fill a cup from a bottle of amber liquid, you're not entirely sure what it is but it smells like honey and citrus.

The sailors seem to lack silverware, so you merely raise your bowl to your lips and tip it back, slurping down the contents. It's not nearly as unappetizing as it looks. Actually rather tasty. The cinnamon makes it, you have to say. The drink, whatever it is, is similarly quite good. You detect hints of lime juice, sugar, and nutmeg. You're still not sure what the actual liquor they used is. Some sort of rum, you think.

You're in the midst of eyeing the salt pork suspiciously when a voice calls your name. Glancing up, you see that snaggle-toothed sailor from earlier eyeing you across the table, he's using a tooth pick to dig some rotten chunk of a meal likely years old out of his teeth. “You're Mikhael, yeah? You know, I got a brotha what's a Vatis. Ain't seen 'im in... oh, decade or so I guess. Don't quite trust you magic-y folk. What with you locking yourselves away in them fancy little estates of yours.”

Speaking of dicks, should we give Mik two dicks?

Mik did know this before, and it's been mentioned that it isn't rare for even peasants and commoners to know some modicum of magic. It's just that some Samjan are more naturally gifted than others, and the Shahdom can afford to only take the best of the best.

You shrug your shoulders, raising your cup and kicking back the contents all in one go. With a relieved sigh you set the cup down. “Vatis are just people like anyone else. Granted we're more naturally gifted in the magical arts than most, but all of you could learn to do what I do to some degree. Perhaps not as well as I'm able, but most of our kind are capable of becoming at least equivalent to your average Apprentice, or even full blown Vatis, in one element at the very least.”

The Captain nods approvingly. “He's right, you know. I myself am quite good with fire and water magic. I recommend all of you pick up at least a little bit of water magic if you plan on continuing on as sailors. It will save your life one day, mark my words.”

You slurp down another mouthful of gruel, then refill your cup once you've set down your bowl. “Your Captain gives good advice. It's not hard to learn. We'll be at sea for a few days at the very least, perhaps I'll find time to teach you a few tricks. Oh, and by the way. I haven't even gotten to enjoy the perks of being a Vatis. I've spent a good portion of my career traveling abroad, exploring the world, risking life and limb, all in search of ancient artifacts from Hiacia and Rhynia.”

That seems to spark the interest of the massive tattooed fellow, who suddenly sits up straight. “You're living the adventurer's life, then? I gave it a go myself, for a few years. Found it wasn't really for me. Signed up to play escort to a merchant vessel going south and fell in love with the sea, haven't spent more than a month on dry land since. That's exactly how I like it too. All them underground tunnels, I'll die a happy man if I never see another abandoned mine shaft so long as I live.”

You seem to have succeeded in setting the rest of the crew at ease, and the conversation starts to flow more easily. You enjoy your meal, filling your bowl for seconds and then again for thirds. Once you've finally eaten your fill and sated your thirst, you simply sit in the comfortable warmth of the ship's hold and chat with the rest of the crew, swapping stories and trading tales of women you've loved, battles you've fought, and sights you've seen.

Apparently one of the men, a fairly unassuming sort, was a pirate for a few years before he was captured in a raid against a merchant vessel that went wrong. He has quite a number of stories to tell. How many of them are true, you couldn't say. You're fairly positive he never banged Padishah Kadir's mother, though. Not certain, you heard that she was something of a loose woman before her marriage to the Shah, but a lowly pirate seems a bit below even her.

Eventually the Captain puts an end to the revelry by slamming his palm against he wooden table. “Alright, yah whoresons. Early day tomorrow. Try to get some sleep, when it's your shift on the watch you'll be fetched by one of the men who was on the shift just before yours. We should have another full day and night of sailing before we reach Anthus, and depending on the weather another day and night after that.

>ROOOOLL 1d100. I need one for weather, and two for Random Encounters. We'll probably be doing a bit of a timeskip.

>One random encounter.

Alright, we're going to be doing a bit of a timeskip, two days. You can read up to 16 chapters from any number of books of your choose. By that I mean, you could read four chapters from one book, four chapters from another, and eight from a third. You could also meditate up to 4 times. For every four chapters that you read, you can meditate one less time. For every meditation session, you can read four fewer chapters.

So
>Don't meditate, read 16 chapters.
>Meditate once, read 12 chapters.
>Meditate twice, read 8 chapters.
>Meditate three times, read 4 chapters.
>Meditate four times, unable to read.

Okay, so you have three meditation sessions. What will you meditate on? Pick three options from the below list. The three most popular choices are what we'll go with.

>Metal
>Nature
>Fire
>Earth
>Beam
>Delay
>Create
>Confuse
>Speed
>Slow

Note, picking any one option from this list will necessitate that you use 3 of your chapters to read the entry from the book. You can only pick one.

I don't really think either turning solid to liquid without heat or sublimating metal without heat would be possible at Mik's level, or even at the Grandmaster level. Tiny pellets/balls just breaking off and flying about is also sort of a master/expert level sort of thing. Ore into pure metal would be pretty simple, +4 bonus I suppose. Crystal to metal... +8, and you'd need to be Expert to do it if you didn't want to compromise the structural integrity of the crystal. Levitating ores would only be a +2. Last idea wouldn't really be possible at Mik's level, and probably not at any level if I'm understanding the way you're conceptualizing it. You can't turn into that liquid metal dude from the Terminator movies.

Also, point offense would likely require a meditation session, which you're out of.
Not really sure what you mean by mist. Just making mist? You can do that easy, no problem.

Fire and Nature combo would be a reasonable experiment.

I think everyone exhausted themselves with that Pratchett thread and the earlier shitposting. Go to sleep Anon.

You can already do mist easily and make plenty of it, so long as you put the vys in. Also manipulating mist is easy. To cover the entire ship and some extra, that'd probably be about 4 vys.

What was master having Rasim do again? Could doing that on a larger scale lead to something beneficial, or lead into an experoment?

Taking bets on how long this update is going to be.
I'm thinking probably double digits, 8 at the least.

Fuck that douche canoe

i can't find the picture of him with the match anywhere on line. really great scene though.

but yes, he is an ass. should have just taken the knowledge back to the surface and sold it for billions of dollars instead of taking kida/crystal thing

Point Offense would have honestly been the best thing to meditate on, but there are some players who have ADD, and some who jump on an option and refuse to change their opinion.
>>
>>38672668
>People didn't do what I wanted! They're all stupid!
It's a question of priorities, you think a new method of attack is the most important thing, I think protecting ourselves from further sanity loss is
>>
>>38672702
You have to consider the circumstances.
Right now we're on a merchant ship going through an area that is threatened by an elven warlord, pirates, and barbarians.
What do you think pirates are better at, causing high level vatis to lose sanity points, or sink ships and kill people with physical wounds? We were hired to protect the ship if they attack, and the best way to do that is with Point Offense, as that gives us something like a +4 or +6 to all attack rolls even without having Expert Nature, in which case it would give us +8. I seriously doubt sanity protection is an urgent issue, but even then, we could have skipped out on Animate, which is an even less urgent matter than almost everything else we could meditate on as it has no rapid, active combat uses outside of making golems, which we have no expertise in, and I doubt want to do on a random shit instead of doing it at home with Fulvia's help.
>>
>>38672734
>on a random shit
On a random ship, I mean.
>>
>>38672734
We're a grandmaster of water, we are quite literally in our element, I don't think we'd have as much trouble as you seem to think
You are right that point offense would have been a better choice than animate though
>>
>>38672813
I mean, sure we're in our element, but I'd like to remind you that many sailors and pirates become Water vatis over the years, and it's not all that unlikely that a pirate group would have a Water GM in it. Also there are things called cannons.
>>
>>38672831
I suppose they could, but didn't we pretty much wipe out all of the pirates in the area?
>>
>>38672866
and also, I don't really see how point offense would make a difference against cannons
>>
>>38672668
Soma said that shit is pretty fucking useless until we start improving in nature.
>>
>>38672831
>>38672734
Cannons are more or less forgotten and that pirate vessel have cannons was what made it exceptional.

And you're pulling those numbers from your ass because I've yet to give stats for point offense.
>>
>>38672923
That's straight up wrong, he said we won't get full bonus, but we will still get some benefit from it.
>>38672866
We did, which is why I'm thinking some independent ones might have popped up, or the Warlord might have moved in.
>>38672897
Makes sinking ships and killing people easier, even if they don't have cannons Mik could have a hard time killing a dozen or more pirates who have boarded the ship.

Will Soma ever update the Magic pastebin to include aspects of the elements we learned in their description, like illusions for Fire and so on?
>>38673224
Hey, at least I said "something like" but I guess I was misremembering, or just assumed it'd be similar to PD's current +6, or is what's in the pastebin its potential total bonus and not what we have right now?
Although if it gives less than +4 then you might as well just say it's completely useless.
>>
>>38673224
Friday the 13th thread for dem triple ones?
>>
>>38673224
One more for healing everybody.
>>
>>38673224
Would PO give the same bonus right now as PD does?
>>
Next thread when?
>>
>>38674069
I assume Saturday or Monday, as per schedule.
