Of course, you hadn't realized in your rush to head back to castle and introduce your newly-acquired Night Caste, Radiant Starfall, to everyone.

It's late at night. You've got charms that can keep you awake for a long time, and Radiant Starfall... you guess she's kinda nocturnal, but most other people are probably sleeping. Even the Exalted need a modicum of rest, especially when they're as overworked as you all are.

"Um... will everyone be all right with me showing up like this? I kinda have been spying on everyone for a long time." Starfall mumbles shyly. You're still dragging her by the hand.

"I'm sure it'll be all right! You didn't intend any harm, and you HAVE been helping us from the shadows after all." You reassure her,.

"...Maybe Zareen will be mad at me." She seems worried. "I caused a lot of trouble for her."

"Don't worry too much." You slap her back, walking through the almost-empty corridors of the castle at night. Most lights are out, and the only presence around are slightly confused soldiers guarding entrances and passages, saluting you as you pass by. "She might give you the silent treatment for a few days, but she'll get over it."

As you look around wondering where everyone might be, Starfall helpfully chimes in: "Valeriana and Zaan should still, uh, be in the library, and Mikahil and Denzik in the archive. And Amata is in the sorcery room with Tia."

"...How do you know tha- nevermind."

>Who are we?
Maka, an exiled noble Exalted as a Zenith-caste Solar. Queen of Gem, now ruling the western island of Tianna. You have gathered a lot of allies and friends, and have a powerful Manse under construction.
But Tianna is actually an artificial island, built around a First Age Titan: an almighty flying fortress built in an ancient, forgotten age, and although this is kept secret, two Deathlords are seeking to obtain it.
The Tyrant of the Doomsday Machine, ghost of your past incarnation, seeked it as a weapon to cut her ties to the Neverborn. But you have persuaded her to try and seek redemption in the eyes of the Sun in other ways, and count her as an unlikely ally.
But now the Silver Prince is coming, to punish her and claim the Titan for himself in the name of Oblivion. And this looks like a battle you won't be able to talk your way out of...

>Solar? Zenith? I don't know Exalted...
This quest is as newbie-friendly as possible, and I want it to work as a newbie's intro to Exalted. If you have ANY question, ask in thread. For the setting, google "1d4chan exalted".

>Archive?
http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=Solar%20Quest

>System?
Dicepool-like system. When performing an action, everyone rolls 1d10 when posting. the first X rolls are considered, where X is equal to attribute + ability. Yes, this means that the more people are posting, the stronger Maka is, up to a limit of her attribute + ability.

>XP?
Attributes cost [current score x5] xp. Abilities cost [current score x3] xp, except Zenith costing [(current score x3) -1]. Charms cost 10 xp, except for Zenith-based charms (related to charisma and physical/mental fortitude) which cost 8 xp. At the end of every "session" (thread) you will be presented with a list of possible acquisitions.

Zareen is currently wasting time trying to track down our new Exalted. While there may be some animosity between the two, we need to get them working together to maximise internal security.

We might as well have the spouses introduced as well, both to enforce a more diplomatic attitude when we goto see Zareen, and also to avoid Tia making some unfortunate mistake if Radiant Starfall suddenly appears behind us in the future.

Back in Freeport, some Mothers covered up their children's eyes when Maka was walking around the place naked. The latter.

Well, the first thing you should do is probably to get Zareen to stop losing her sleep after Starfall. You head to the tower on top of the castle with her, and find her sleeping fitfully on her chair.

The table in front of her is filled with papers and reports, and she spilled some ink over most of then and her own face by falling asleep on them. Some kind soldier put a blanket on her before leaving.

"...Zareen?" You prod her, gently. Starfall seems terrified.

The dragon-blooded is suddenly startled awake, but her eyes take a bit longer to creak open. "Uh? Bluh. Wha-"

"Um, Zareen?" You ask her, as Starfall seeks cover behind you. "I, I found the mysterious individual."

"What?" She's still groggy, but now you can detect focus and frustration in her voice.

"Um, there was a Night Caste hiding in town. She's on our side now. Just a bit shy about being identified." You step aside. "Meet Radiant Starfall!"

Zareen slams her hand on the desk, pulls a longbow out of the table's wood, and fires an arrow that stabs into the wall just behind Starfall, next to the head. Hard to tell if she missed on purpose, if she's too sleepy or mad to aim properly, or if Starfall just slightly nudged her head to the side barely in time.

"You dragon-cursed bashtard..." She slurs, takes one step towards her, and then her bow drops to the ground with a clattering noise and she falls asleep in her arms.

"...That went better than I hoped." You reply. Millian is holding up Zareen, wrapped up in her blanket, with a panicked "what do I do now" look on her face.

(Millian hasn't been trained as a Tiger Warrior yet. She's Physical 1.)

You delicately bring the snoring Zareen to her room downstairs, feeling a bit bad for her. At least she'll rest better in her bed.

You hope that that ink on her face isn't going to completely ruin her pillow. You leave her a note, just in case.

Then, you drag Starfall to the archives. There's still light coming from inside, and you can here some arguing.

"This is a completely insane idea. I don't care if you're Exalted, you can't just do this and expect it to work right away. It would take years!"

"I don't see why it SHOULD take years." You hear a pout in Mikahil's voice. "We just need to make the switch from cowrie to coin fast enough. Once you use Tianna's national bank to-"

"Tianna's national bank? Don't be crazy! It's seven days, the makret's in a crisis, and the sudden influx of treasure from the Lintha War is causing so much inflation that if there's ever been a time to NOT undermine the people's trust in the bank, it's now!"

"This is EXACTLY the time to make the switch! Oh, I get it, it's because having a weak cowrie in Tianna goes to your family's benefit?"

"What the heck are you implying, Mikahil? You're not making any-"

Whoops, time to butt in. You creak the noisy door open into the cramped, dusty archive. Mikahil and Roan are sitting at a large desk, filled with open ledgers, sheets of papers with calculations scribbled in pencil, and empty cups of coffee, glasses of brandy, and bottles of brandy. A large blackboard covered in abstruse math forms the backdrop to the scene.

"...Maka." Mikahil straightens up.

"...You're not wearing any pants." Distraction achieved.

"What's going on?" You ask them.

"Mister Mikahil wants to destroy the central bank of Tianna and salt the ruins."

"I wanted to shift Tianna to a double-currency system where we'd use cowries on the internal market and silver coinage tied to the Guild dinar for imports and exports." Mikahil explains.

"That's not what you said."

"That IS what I said."

"That's what YOUR MOM said."

"Have you been drinking?" You ask, waltzing in and picking up one of the bottles.

"We're patronizing Tianna's struggling spirits industry." Roan nods sagely. The two of them lift their half-empty glasses in unison.

"Oh, Mikahil." You grin.

"Yes?"

You give a shove to Starfall, pushing her into the room.

"Starfall, meet Mikahil. Or, I guess you already know him?"

"I, uh." She hesitates. "We took a shower together yesterday."

Mikahil blinks, stares at her, then stares at his own glass. "Is it normal that I don't remember?"

"It's normal." She replies, shrinking away.

"In that case." Mikahil delicately takes her hand and kisses it, impeccably."Pleased to meet you, Starfall."

Starfall catches fire (or maybe it's just an Essence display) and hides behind you. "L-l-likewise."

"So." You know you're going to regret this. "Tell me about this plan you have."

"Basically." Mikahil starts, putting the glass down. "We secured a lot of silver ingots from the Lintha, and I wanted to put them to good use by stamping Tiannan coinage. It would be a strong, stable currency, tied to the Guild's dinar, but with a lower weight and slightly higher purity."

"His crazy idea is that giving the coins a higher purity will be perceived as more trustworthy by foreign commercial partners." Roan butts in.

"Why is it crazy?"

"Because there's no guarantee that it'll work, and that people instead won't just see it as an trick coin that's meant to be debased later on. Coral tried that once."

"Coral's never been trustworthy on currency issues." Mikahil replies, quite confidently. "We're different."

"...So we'd keep the shells for our internal economy?" You're not sure you follow.

"Yeah. Also, stamping our first run of coins as commemorative for the foundation of Pearl will be great publicity."

"...Publicity through coins?" You just give up at this point and chug down some of that brandy. "...Anyway." You glance at poor Roan Denzik, completely out of his depth. "How's it going with the supplies coming from your family? The stuff we need for Pearl?"

He groans. "We'd take this currency at face value for now, if you guarantee its purity. So, there's no problem with supplies. The only problem could be shipping. Bad winds and currents, storms..."

You snap your fingers. "Speaking of which, Mikahil. I secured an alliance with the Ocean Father, but we have to make some Oaths, because he wants something in exchange but he's being mysterious about it."

"Oh? When are we doing this?"

"Tomorrow at dawn." You glance out of the window. "Five yours or so. Maybe you should catch some sleep. You too, Roan."

"Leave her three-quarters of the gold. The Manse now is a priority." You tell him.

"Alright. I guess it'll be a small run, so we can focus a bit on quality. It'll be very symbolic. Besides, it'll make quite an impact, since no one else uses golden coinage." He nods. "Besides, Roan, we still have that prospection to carry out in the area 'round Pearl, right?"

"You're going to draw a lot of attention." Roan warns him.

"Staying under everyone's radar is no longer an option." He notes. "At this point, it's better to just go all-in."

"I hope it won't burn you out." Roan sighs. "You're good trading partners."

"Just wait until we're out of this crisis and Ill have enough time to crash the west's economy and rebuild it from the ground up." Mikhail replies confidently.

Do this. Stamp either Maka by herself or (to be a little more subtle) the trio of Maka + Amata and Tia (three queens) on the heads side.

We don't even need to buy the charm immediately - in fact it might be better if we didn't. That way the coins will seem entirely benign to everyone. Then when they are widely distributed we buy the charm and people all over creation suddenly take an inordinate interest in the coin.

For added points, predict that this will cause a spike in demand for the currency, and keep a surplus to exchange on excellent terms once the charm is bought.

You linger in the archive, exchanging a few more words with Mikahil and Roan, before saying goodbye and leaving, heading, with Starfall, towards the nearby library.

"...Did you really sneak in Mikahil's shower?"

She nods. "I.. uh... Mikahil is one who, um... who I felt he could find me, sometimes. He's sharp. So... It was kind of a game. I wanted to see how good I could get."

"Mikahil IS sharp." you admit. "If you managed to sneak up to him that casually, you must be... amazingly good."

She nods, blushing. "Five Tails said that too."

You pause. "Did Five Tails find you?"

"A couple times. Had to run away. Hide. She... didn't like me being too close to Mikahil." She touches a shoulder nervously. "Knifed me once."

"...That sounds troublesome."

"No, it's okay." She replies. "We talked things out."

"...I see." That must have been quite a situation. "So why didn't she tell us anything?"

"I asked her not to."

"I'm surprised the didn't say anything to Mikahil either." You note.

She just shrugs.

"...wait a second. Miakhil is one of the people you had more trouble sneaking up to, and you've been in the shower with him." You reason.

She nods.

You point to yourself. "...I'm not even sure I want to know what you managed to do to me. Actually, no, I'm curious, tell me."

Starfall hesitates. "I, well... um..."

"I'm not going to get mad. You know I don't mind being watched. I'm just curious."

She fidgets and blushes furiously. "...You and Tia are spectacular in bed. It's incredible."

"...Did you just watch, or-"

"I've tried but... I can't keep up with you."

You try and remember. Once the lights are out...

That would explain a couple of times where Tia suddenly seemed a lot less energetic and assertive than usual, only to switch right back. Alright, you're really impressed.

You knock and open the door to the sorcery room, and find yourself in the middle of a very bizarre scene.

Books and scrolls are scattered absolutely everywhere, after what you can only imagine as a furious study session. The desks and lecterns are filled with sketches of blueprints for Pearl's manse and city, ranging from the well-drawn to the utterly messy, and from the sensible to the utterly hilarious.

In the middle of the bibliocarnage, sitting on a "sofa" made of piles of books roughly stacked in something vaguely resembling the appropriate shape, you see Valeriana, sitting with a small cotton-tipped stick in her hands, with Zaan lying on the "couch", head on her lap. She's in the process of cleaning his ear.

And they're both very surprised of seeing you stumbling into the scene like this.

A few seconds of silence follow.

You cough amusedly. "Please continue, don't mind me!"

Valeriana jumps up, knocking Zaan to ground in the process. "As if we could!" She protests. Then, ass soon as she realizes: "...Oh. Sorry."

Zaan slowly stands back up, holding his head in pain. "...We just finished - well, Valeriana just finished, I just helped a bit... anyway, we did the designs for the Manse... She wanted you to look at them and decide on one."

She nods vigorously. "And we thought that we'd take a break before working on the sorcerous aspect of the whole... you know. The plan. Or whatever we're calling it now."

"Oh, let me introduce Radiant Starfall."

This time you don't even have to shove her! "H-hi."

Both of them blink, confused. "...Hi." "Hi?"

"Radiant Starfall is a Night-Caste solar that's been spying on us all because she wanted to help but she's too shy to meet people and so she tries to hide behind a secret identity by roleplaying as a magical girl-"

"Maka! Maka! Please!" She struggles trying desperately to shut you up. Then she turns to the two of them. "So, how about those designs?" Subject-Changing Prana.

Val and Zaan stare at each other, then, still a bit confused by the sudden turn of events, They start gathering up the blueprints and showing them to you.

"So, you remember our first design?" Valeriana spreads open some of those drawings in front of you. "A pyramidal structure, with a tower reaching up to two hundred meters on top of that?"

"...yes." Looking at the drawings, it DOES look quite insane.

"Well, we need to cut corners, so the tower needs to go."

"Aww."

"For now. We'll complete it when we've got time. Our focus is on having the bare minimum of the structure, plus the defensive facilities. So I've re-designed the pyramidal section as a eightfold-patterned sunburst-shaped fortress as an alternate design, and as a circular, conical structure, and redesigned all the internals"

"...What's the difference?" You feel confused by the complex designs.

"Well. A square pattern has the most weapon emplacements and rationalized fields of fire for Essence artillery and conventional shooting attacks."

You nod.

"A sunburst pattern has overlapping supporting walls, making the structure much stronger, not to mention capable of supporting heavier stresses and bigger weights and loads."

"I see."

"And a circular pattern means that we can play with symmetry and access points better, improving our logistics organization and troop movements within, and making it easier to defend from infiltrators."

God, between the tower that is later going to grow out of the center of the sunburst and the base design, this is going to be pretty ballin'.
>>
>>38647997
(It won't affect that.)

"...go with this." You hand her the sunburst pattern's design. It looks like two squares crossed with each other, creating a sturdy-looking compass star with eight points. "I have a good feeling about it."

"Alright."

"So, the foundation is already ready, right?"

"Sort of. The focal chamber will be underground, heavily reinforced. It will have all the military facilities, barracks, armories, command and control, and the war room and so on." She lowers her voice slightly. "Also, a secret passage."

You nod.

"I'm designing the ground levels, and I have some modules to put there. What should we have?"

"How many levels are we talking about?" You wonder.

"Well, in the fortress level, it's going to have about twelve floors, and I'd split them, broadly, in three groups of four. So three. Of course, upper levels are going to be smaller, but not by much."

"And then we'll have the tower? Later, I mean."

"Yeah, don't think about it now. We'll add it later. We can go crazy with it." She seems rather eager.

Just to be precise, I listed normal stuff there, but there's plenty of crazy stuff you can think of. A room of artificial wyld for Silk, an AI, a giant statue, a wine fountain, an artificial volcano with lava bath, a giant cloning facility for mass-producing maids, whatever you can come up with.

(Don't worry. Valeriana is in charge. Which means that if she wants it to look like a mess, it WILL.)

"Let's do it like this. For the bottom block..." You let your creativity run rampant. "...Well, of course, leave space for fortifications and weapons emplacements. I want it to be a completely impregnable fortress."

She nods, taking notes and sifting through her papers. "Of course, of course."

"It should also have all the workshops, production facilities, everything we might need. Both militarly and economically. Stick quarters for the servants and laborers there. It will be the most accessible floor, and I want it to be a centre of industry."

She giggles. "Oh, I like that. Imagine... So many assistants, so much production capability for aaaaall the toys I can think of... Yes..." Her giggle is somewhat unhealthy, but you decide it might be better to let her be...

"You should add... mh, appropriate storage to service the facilities."

"Of course."

"And the Temple to the Unconquered Sun."

She seems surprised. "I thought you'd put it at the very top."

"Why not both?" You shrug. "In times of peace, we'll leave the ground level part open to the public, so this will be for general worship. It would be a hassle for everyone to climb to the top of the tower."

"Makes sense. Oh! Oh!" an idea strikes her. "How about... we build it central, and leave a shaft going aaaaall the way down from the very top of the tower to the very bottom, and built the temple around it. so when the sun crosses the zenith the light will go through the shaft and shine in the temple."

"Just don't make it a security hazard."

"I'll try." She nods energetically.

"And then, mhh... Either my throne room... or a bath?"

"I'd go with a large, open-air, common bath. Since this part will be open to the public. Put the throne room higher up."

"Alright, go with that." You like that. Despite her occasional craziness, Valeriana has a good grasp of civil engineering. "What next?"

"On the second level... I have some ideas. Well, first of all, make it the admin level. We run the city from there. So, my throne room, offices, and the main library."

"...Sure." Val nods, scribbling more stuff down. Her handwriting is basically incomprehensible when she writes that quickly.

"And I was thinking... Silk."

"Silk." She nods.

"Is there any way we can transplant her Wyld there? I'd like to keep her close. I'm worried that there won't be space for her in the upper levels, so..."

"Really?!" She interrupts you, suddenly eager. "Actually, you know?"

"Uh." ...what? "...what?"

"I've meant to go back to the Wyld for quite some time because I think I've stumbled on an interesting power and I'm eager to try it."

You know that feeling, although it's hard to put into words. It's just like, a memory suddenly surfacing. The realization that you know how to do something, without having ever tried it.

"...About the Wyld?"

She nods eagerly. "So I'd very much like to keep a lot of Wyld nearby."

That does sound insanely dangerous, but then again you DID suggest that first, so you've got no one to blame.

"...Alright. And finally. You once said that you could make an artificial mind to oversee the Manse."

"I can, but... Well, not from nothing." She mumbles.

"What do you mean?"

"I need... something to start from." She suggest, obliquely.

"Something to start from?"

"Well, I CAN build it from nothing, but it will take years. I can't speed that up.It's about... It's like having a baby grow into an adult on its own. You can't rush that. Unless."

"Unless what?"

"Well, in theory, you can take someone and make him or her the new AI."

You sigh heavily. "You're not talking about a human sacrifice, are you?"

"Well. The soul remains and becomes something akin to a local god, directly connected to the structure. But the original body is destroyed." She shakes her head. "From what I've read... It's how our predecessors used to do it."

"No." You say again, this time to no one in particular. "Forget about it. Make the AI the slow way. I don't care."

"...actually, I was just about to go and see Amata in the sorcery room. Mind tagging along?"

Zaan seems quite pleasantly surprised with you not insisting. You can sense that his respect for you just went up a notch. He nods.

You grab Starfall (and her book on Shogunate middle-era architecture) and proceed towards the room in question: an isolated, thick-walled chamber buried underground, well-guarded and warded and rather hard to access, or get out of. Guards let you pass, but they are quite watchful.

Sometimes you wonder what's Amata's problem with sorcery. And then you wonder what her problem with gods is as well. And then you just conclude that Amata seems to have a lot going on.

Remembering full well how much Amata hates being interrupted, or disturbed during sorcery, and also guessing that it must be generally a Bad Thing regardless of personal likes and dislikes, you knock on the heavy oak door, bound in iron and silver, sealing the chamber from the outside world.

The one who opens is none other than Tia! Excited from seeing you, she makes a "shhh!" Motions urging you to silence, and whispers: "Amata is summoning DEMONS!" With all the giddyness of a five-years-old to a doll show.

You and Zaan enter, silently. The room is wide, badly lit by brass candelabra, but filled with the dull glow of stale, trapped Essence. A circle of light, etched with indecipherable symbols, glows in the pavement, and you get the feeling that you are not supposed to approach it.

Amata is on the opposite side of the room. She's wearing a long white cape over a black tunic, a crown set with a large red glass-like gem, and carries a decorative longsword filled with fine runes and symbols, its hilt studded with gemstones.

And she's staring down a being, sitting cross-legged in the middle of the circle. It looks more than a bit human, but its skin is a dark red, hairy, thorny, irregular, and its arms and legs are a bit too long. Horns sprout from its head, covered in messy black hair, or maybe strips of leather. It looks like a giant, mishappen ape more than a human.

The creature lifts a hand, slowly. It's oversized, covered in claws that look like they could tear a tree in half. But a stern stare from Amata is all that it takes to cow it into submission.

"Do you bow?"
"I do." The creature's voice is a guttural, hoarse growl. It dips its head, until it touches the ground.
"Again." The creature repeats. "Once more." And a third time.
"As the pacts of sorcery require, I am yours to command, for, once more, I am beaten and have submitted." It lifts its head slightly. "For a time or a task."
"Then I name you the task of clearing buried chambers in an underground complex at the behest of a person whom I shall name as director of works." Amata says, sounding like it's a rehearsed line, or one said many other times.
The creature bows once again and then vanishes, leaving behind smoke and a rank smell of blood.
Amata sighs and sits down on the floor. "Ugh. So annoying."

You turn to Radiant. "Do you?"

"...Know what?" She asks, confused.

"Do you?" Tia chimes in, interested in participating this fun game she doesn't seem to entirely understand.

"I don't KNOW what you're talking about!"

"DO YOU?" Amata rages, and Starfall just... vanishes from under you eyes.

You give one stern look at Amata, and she sighs, lifting her arms. "...I know, I know. Sorry... Starfall, was it? I was being too pushy. I apologize. It's a very stressful time for all of us."

A hint of movement draws your attention to just above you. You look up and see her, standing on the ceiling, looking up (or rather, down) to you. Both her hair and her clothes seem to defy gravity by going up rather than down, as well.

"..." She squints, clearly a bit upset.

"...Do you know? About the reason Tyrant came here, and... half of the reason the Prince is?"

"...I managed to overhear some of the Silver Prince's spies talk about a "Titan"."

"Nothing more?" Amata seems more relieved than worried now.

"Nothing more." Radiant Starfall admits. "Will you tell me what this Titan is, now?"

"...I can't." Amata sighs. "Just trust me, alright."

Millian's shape becomes clouded in shadow. "...You do realize that at this point, if I really wanted to find out, it would be only a matter of time, right?"

Amata turns to you with a supremely annoyed frown. "Night Caste." She repeats the curse-word.

Maka is at the point where her base stats are high enough to qualify as brainwashing if you consider an average mortal has maybe a MDV of four, you need to be literally Exalted to have a chance at saying no to her.

Maka is dangerous.
>>
>>38653019
That's why she can't ask someone to be a sacrifice. They'd say yes, they wouldn't be able to say anything against her. Maka could get thousands to sacrifice themselves for her without a second thought.
>>
>>38653019
Maybe we should make a charm that makes us less dangerous to the general public.
>>
Time to tip the scales.

"Starfall, please trust us." You say, gently taking a hold of one of her hands. "One day we'll tell you everything, but for now it's better if you don't know."

[Social + Zenith = 2 6 3 7 5 8 8 7 10 8 = 7 successes]

Starfall mumbles indecisively for a few seconds, torn, eyeing you, then Amata alternatively, then just nods. "...Alright. It seems something heavy, and if those baddies want it, well, that's reason enough to want to keep it secret. Just tell me... how important is it?"

"Enough to completely change the balance of power in Creation." Amata replies, without hesitation. "Never mention it to anyone. There are people who could understand even if you just mentioned that name, "Titan". And those people are the most dangerous."

"Alright. Magical Girl Pinky Promise, your majesty." She says, taking a hold of Amata's hand and wrapping little fingers with her. Amata seems a bit confused by the gesture, but accepts it nonetheless. "But you're wrong about one thing."

"...What?"

Starfall steps back and nods knowingly. "...Balance of Power... there isn't such a thing in Creation. We're in the middle of chaos."

"...You might be right." You admit.

"So..." Starfall awkwardly tries to keep the conversation going. "...Demons, eh?"

"Don't get me started." Amata sighs. "Useful, strong, but hard to handle. But we needed the workforce."

"...You don't hate demons?" The Night Caste wonders.

"...Not particularly. Hate is a strong word. They're ANNOYING. Most of them... they don't do the things they do because they're evil. I can't get as mad at them as I would against, say, humans, or spirits. They're just alien."

"The real monster is man?" Tia suggests, sounding like she ripped that quote from a children's book.

"Pretty much." Amata giggles. "Demons are just headstrong and weird and insane, but it's their nature. It doesn't mean that they're dangerous, of course. Just that it's meaningless to get mad at them."

It's not brainwashing. She wasn't even using any charms. Flirting with another exalt isn't enslaving them to carnal desires or rewriting their personalities.
Mortals would probably think about it for quite sometime, but it would eventually become just a fond memory they'd treasure while moving on with their lives. Maybe some infatuation in the beginning.
And really, having people fall in love with Maka is not bad, she takes care of her followers and nothing bad comes out of it.
>>
>>38653135
Maybe he means that it was a first age campaign. That is, I HOPE he means that.
>>
>>38653149
Yes, it is brainwashing. Maybe you don't understand. We do not HAVE to use charms. Maka's charisma is supernatural without using them. We can convince almost anyone of anything just by asking them to do it. Unless Zaan has some good social stats, he wouldn't be able to resist what we want, charm or no charm.

You remember Starfall mentioning that she was supposed to be sacrificed as part of the rituals of a deranged, demon-worshiping cult.

She doesn't seem to... particularly disagree with what Amata is saying, but her gaze is distant and thoughtful.

"So... I have a friend." She starts. "She... there's not a way to say this without making her sound like a bad person, but I promise she's not."

"Oh boy." Escapes Amata's lips. "Go on."

"She speaks to demons. And demons listen to her."

Oh boy indeed. "...Is this about that seven-eyed whatever?" You ask.

"The Cult of the Seventh Eye?" Amata is suprised. "You know them?"

"You know them?!" Starfall echoes, but then realizes how bad that sounded. "I destroyed them a couple months ago."

"It was YOU?" Amata seems utterly astonished. "...Alright, I'm REALLY impressed." She grins, ruffling the little Night's hair.

"Th-thank you, your majesty." She replies, with a shy smile. "So... er. Yes. The founder of the cult."

You lift an eyebrow. "...Didn't you destroy it?"

"...She's not a bad person."

Amata does much more than lifting an eyebrow, on the emotional roller-coaster with no brakes the last few minutes with Starfall are taking her through. "That cult murdered six innocent people, and it could have been much worse!"

"I know! I was supposed to be the seventh! But believe me, it wasn't her fault! The cult got hijacked by crazies!" The Night-Caste protests.

"Oh, sure, and it was just a COMPLETELY INNOCUOUS AND HARMLESS demonic cult!"

"It was!"

Maka actually does have the potential to go full First Age now, is the thing. If she asked a city to jump, she'd receive an answer bellowed from ten thousand mouths atop a thousand rooftops: "How high?"

>>38653474
Yeah. Maka's at the point where she must be very careful because she's frankly fully capable of going full-on First Age. Think about it: apart from Amata's occasional antagonism and some times some other NPCs, we've got NO ONE keeping us in check but ourselves.

>>38653516
Yeah, but when EF tried to introduce a plotline to handle the Great Curse, he got shouted down. So I guess we're doomed.

Anyway:

>>38653313

>>
>>38653474
Well, I mean, we're aware SOMETHING influences our behavior now between our memories of our First Age incarnation's last moments, what the Deathlord and her Deathknight's were hinting at, and our own experiences.

So, yeah, eventually we'll have to attempt to stop what's causing our irrational behavior,
>>
>>38653548
Pfft, what? Nowhere did EF concede about giving up on the Great Curse storyline. I'm sure that's what some faggots WANT, but nowhere did he say he was giving up on it because a few anons got buttmad
>>
>>38653548

>>

Plus basically now it's pretty clear that Maka's slowly but surely descending into sex addiction (and that's entirely our fault).

I hope that not trying to fuck Zaan right in front of his new girlfriend dialed that back a notch, but on the other side I'm worried that the thread voted mostly against it just because he's male, and we would've totally tapped that if he was a cute sharkgirl.
>>
>>38653548
>Yeah, but when EF tried to introduce a plotline to handle the Great Curse, he got shouted down. So I guess we're doomed.

I doubt EF is going to remove the Great Curse entirely however analpained some people got, it's far too central to Exalted's plot.
>>
>>38653630

Pretty sure that's not why, given everyone else we've fucked (Samiel, those Immaculate monks, etc.)

In fact, I think it might have something to do with not wanting to be a total slag.
>>
>>38653417
Yup. I'm flattered you recall. It was an intentional deviation from the setting in certain parts. At the end of the campaign, our Dawn went forward in time once we settled things in the First Age, and our Night stayed behind. Only my Twlight and our Zenith returned to "modern-day" Creation to find Gethemane holding back a sea of chaos after the Wyld destroyed the Elemental Poles. Turns out the more democratic Deliberative we fashioned was too slow and weak in responding to threats against Creation.

Still, Twilight with the Eye.
>>

>>38653630
I don't know, a lot of people in the thread seem just as likely to have sex with a male than a female. I mean not including UCS, because I mean come one, we've had people talking about having sex with Sammy, the other DB monks, Dancing Swallow when he comes back, someone mentioned wanting to bed Ocean Father last thread and wanting more cute boys too.

I think the players in the quest are pretty equal opportunity sluts.

You just resolve to let them resolve it between themselves. You don't know anything about the incident in question.

The two start staring angrily at each other.

"...Demon cults are dangerous. What was she even THINKING? What was her aim? Her purpose?"

"I don't know! She wouldn't tell me!"

"Oh, so she's hiding it. Was it fame? Money? Power?"

"She's not that kind of person! The cult never harmed anyone until the Crimson Cabal took control of it!"

"Am I supposed to believe that?"

"I guarantee that! Please, your majesty, give me and her a chance! She can help you!"

Amata frowns even deeper. "How?"

"...You need someone to direct the work of those demons, right?" She asks. "She can help. She can control demons."

"Pff. She can't give orders to bound demons. Only the summoner can."

"She can!"

That sort of determined statement silences Amata for a while. She scratches her chin. "...Alright. I'll be magnanimous. If this woman turns herself in..."

"She's innocent!"

"...If she comes to us and offers us her services as a sorceress..."

"She's not a sorceress!"

"...her services, she will be cleared of all suspicion." She points. "But you're responsible for her, Radiant Starfall."

"Thank you, your majesty!" Starfall bows. "You will not regret this decision!"

"...I hope not." Amata sounds concerned.

Meanwile, you've spent the entire conversation in a hug around Tia, only partially paying attention to it, and trying to ignore the insistent banging at the door-

The argument of 'you'd be brainwashed by people every day' holds no water because none of those people have explicitly god-like/better than godlike charisma. There's a difference between being convinced of something and blindly agreeing because someone divinely beautiful said it. Especially someone whose entire job, basically, is telling people what to believe.
>>
Amata, realizing as well, unlocks it, and a quite-mad Zaan storms in, snarling, his pointy teeth nearly jutting out. "What's the big idea?"

You glance all at each other. "...Sorry."

He gives you angry glares, trying to understand what was going on, but eventually gives up with a sigh. "Well. Should we start?" He asks Amata, clearly intentioned to forget about whatever just happened as fast as possible.

"...Alright." Amata has regained her composure. "Starfall, please go fetch this person."

"Yes, your majesty!" The Night salutes and disappears from plain sight.

"Maka."

"Yes?" You ask her back. Are you going to participate in a sorcerous ritual? That sounds exciting.

"Your job will now be to keep Tia off my back." She smiles. "She keeps asking dumb questions and messing up my concentration."

I feel bad that I have to think which argument it was, we have so many.

>>

Whoops, sorry EF, posted before I saw this.

I'll drop it.

>>38654099
Only because you asked so nicely anon.

That's what I would have said if you'd asked nicely. As it is, fuck off.

>>38654162
Alright, if the QM wants it dropped, consider it dropped then. Sorry, EF.

I'm going to forgive this post because it happened less than 10 seconds after my own, but that's all I'll overlook.

You can still ask her. I'm thinking about having a second thread, I can run for... 4-5 more hours or so. Should it be gameplay, discussions, or what?

...waaaatch it...

SECOND THREAAAAAD WOOOOOO
These have become incredibly rare.

>>38652928
In one game I get 11 successes from 9 dice, I broke the ST a little bit.
I know it would be wrong to use The Tyrant as our AI but I want to think about how it could turn out.

Gameplay!

I'm down for more gameplay, personally - We've got The Silver Prince to prep for! Best get a-cracking!
>>
>>38654180
I don't mind either.

How's the new system coming along though?
>>
I'll be honest: I don't MIND the discussion itself. It's a compelling discussion about power, responsibility, and corruption, and so very much in theme in Exalted that it could well be something that gets discussed in-character between Exalts.

But, it's also an Internet Argument Between Nerds On 4chan. No one will ever be convinced, or budge from his positions, and both sides will keep going at it forever, eating postcount and shitting up the thread.

In short: it can be a worthwhile discussion, but it's impossible to actually have it here, so let's just drop it.

My opinion, though, is rather mirrored by the mechanics of the Quest - there's no "unnatural mental influence" here, which leaves the border between "just talking someone into doing something" and "brain washing" basically nonexistant, and merely an issue of how much social firepower you're bringing to the table.

In my mind, this is rather compelling - it does bring Maka to realize just how much power she has and how to properly use it.

I imagine all Exalted had this in some way.

Think how Starfall must have felt while exploring her powers: she can sneak up on anybody, learn anyone's secrets with just a little bit of work. She can steal basically anything. And she can probably kill anyone in their sleep, without leaving traces, and no one will ever know.

While this doesn't probably apply to Exalted and magical beings who could detect her and fight her, it holds true in a city full of mortals who have basically no chance against her powers.

That's fairly insane.

What was it that Lincoln said? "If you want to test a man's character, give him power"?

This Exalted Quest, where our main character is hitting some really high XP totals, is a great demonstration of that.

Rather than getting in unproductive arguments about what IS or ISN'T brainwashing, try asking yourselves where "the line" should be drawn in the use of her powers.
>>
>>38654448
Hey EF, how about a short break? Tou've been at it for some time and a couple of anons are hot headed right now.

The line is clear
It doesn't exist
>>
Radiant Starfall seems to have her "line" (unless she's a serial killer and just toying with you, of course): Spying is apparently okay, people's private lives are sort of hers to do as she pleases, but she doesn't ruin people for shit and giggles or blackmail them for personal gain, and she doesn't hurt anyone (unless they are dangerous for other people or need to be brought to justice). She also keeps stealing down to a few personal items that won't be missed (Maka's panties, for example).

This was just about personal use of powers, of course. You have no idea if she'd cut someone's throat in cold blood while they're sleeping, if she really HAD to. to like save the city from blowing up or something. You don't know how far she'd push that line under duress. She doesn't know either, probably.

...Actually this is making her sound a little bit like Jack Bauer, which is an image so wrong I kinda want it to be right.

Anyway, yeah, sorry for the rant, just wanted to get it off my chest.

Short version: the only difference between normal persuasion and brainwashing in this system and quest and setting is a matter of how heavy-handed you are, and the real issue is how you decide just how heavy-handed you should BE.

>>38654291
The system itself is ready - if a bit untested. I'm at the final phase now: writing charms.

I'll keep the "you only get [ability] charms to pick from each thread" because it's a good excuse to write new charms slowly, a bit at a time, rather than having to write a fuckhuge list of them all beforehand.
>>
(Millian hasn't been trained as a Tiger Warrior yet. She's Physical 1.)

Exalted Quest (session 35) Post 31756087 Seems to be just that.

You link by putting ">>" directly in front of the post number. If you click on a posts number a little reply window should pop up with this already done for you.

>>38654610
...huh, you're right. Weird. For some reason my files listed her as still Physical 1. Well spotted, I stand corrected.
>>
>>38654605
Could there be a charm that lets an exalt pretend to be of a lower social score than she really is?
Because for me the line for Maka is pretty simple: in casual conversation and among friends and subjects, no dice adders. When it comes to negotiation between two parties, the gloves come off.
>>
>>38654759
¨Veiling the golden Glory¨?
>>
>>38654759
Why? That's a terrible thing to do. Maka should not pretend to be something she is not (it even goes against her nude character), what she needs is just self control.
>>
>>38654759
>Could there be a charm that lets an exalt pretend to be of a lower social score than she really is?

Yes. It'd be Night 3. It would basically make you less noticeable and impressive while active, and also grant a stealth bonus in crowds and such.

new thread soon.
>>
>>38654759
That goes against the conceit of Solar Powers man, and would be a lame way for Maka to handle her powers.
>>
>>38654759
There is a charm to grant Maka's MDV to her followers. No need for disguises.
>>
>>38654759
>Could there be a charm that lets an exalt pretend to be of a lower social score than she really is?
I don't see why that's fundamentally necessary. An Exalt with Physical 5 who puts their arms around someone and squeezes could turn them into a pulp, and on the other hand, could give them a comforting hug.

>>38654794
>Why? That's a terrible thing to do. Maka should not pretend to be something she is not (it even goes against her nude character), what she needs is just self control.
... we could probably stand to get a dot of Temperance, though, yeah.
>>
>>38654827
You should think about taking a small break
>>
Rolled 10 (1d10)

>>38654759
I don't like this option.
Like if we're lowering our social score we might as well just not roll our full dice pool, but that's kind of weak, like how low is low enough for our friends?
What if it's important?
What if only we think it's important?

Just, we/Maka really need to be careful about the things we ask people, we shouldn't ask people questions or favors unless we're absolutely prepared for them to say yes, no matter how outrageous.

Like, this thread we turned down Zaan and we denied looking for a sacrifice for our AI.
We easily could have socialed those into happening if we really wanted to, but just because we could doesn't mean we should.
>>
>>38654864
>>38654759
Why do you hate Maka and want to kill her? ;_;
>>
>>38654874
You're not my mom.
>>
>>38654759

>>
>>38654891
Zaan is a strong and independent Lunar. Stop pratonizing him. This is what pisses me off, Maka might be OP, but he is also and Exalt.
>>
Also, what about those guys who were working on a NPC pastebin?
>>
>>38654965

Jokes aside, it wasn't my intention to sound like that, sorry
>>
>>38654837
>That goes against the conceit of Solar Powers man
Yes it does. We should inspire people to have a higher MDV when we speek to them.
>>
>>38654991
Your call. It's my hope that it will work a bit like a wiki, in the sense of collective effort. What you leave behind, someone else will add to later (maybe me, maybe someone else)

>>38655008
Just kidding, don't worry.
>>
>>38654759
A social 5 Solar doesn't necessarily need to flex their social 5 in everyday conversation.

A bodybuilder doesn't automatically crush people's hands when they give a handshake.

I mean, it's funny imagining Maka making absolutely everybody else feel totally inadequate at all times, but not something I want to deal with
>>
>>38654605
>...Actually this is making her sound a little bit like Jack Bauer, which is an image so wrong I kinda want it to be right.
>Magical Girl Jack Bauer
>>
>>38654759
>>38654827
I don't know, trying to beat it through the game system feels, flimsy to me.

Like it all comes down to self control in the end, whether or not we choose to activate the charm or not, whether we decide to throw our full dice at someone one anyway.

We just need to be careful about what we order people, nothing we wouldn't do, nothing we couldn't live with.

Honestly this is kinda why I wanted Dancing Swallow around, a sounding board and a voice of dissent would go a long way to helping keep us in check.
>>
>>38655175
Here you go. New thread.

>>38655135
That is a more sensible statement, yes. The charm is possible, but hardly the most interesting choice.
>>
>>38655135
He had a raging boner for Maka. If he comes back, it will be to get rid of his blue balls.
>>
>>38655068
We should think about getting a mask for public events, something stop Maka from from hitting everyone full blast, we could go for looser clothes too but I think that's still too much for most of us.
No this isn't just me loving masks.
>>
>>38655068
Social 5 literally Jay means you have a mundane understanding of how to convince people of things and an abundantly sparkling and charming personality. Throttling that down to lower levels isn't the same as not crushing someone's hand in a handshake, it's the equivalent of intentionally making bad arguments because you don't want to make good ones.

The way you exhibit self control with high social skills isn't by learning a special technique to make yourself slightly more socially autistic. It's by ACTUALLY HAVING SELF CONTROL and not trying to trick people into things they wouldn't agree with. You know, in the sense that the super-strong guy isn't installing a charm to make sure he never exerts too much, but instead simply choosing not to ruin people with physical contact.

Your idea is approaching a hypothetical problem from the dumbest angle possible.
