"...It feels like flower petals... drifting through the air." Pyre Spark mumbles, lying in bed.

The fifth confused metaphor you've heard from her in the last half an hour of stoned, confused gibberish.

"And the petals are on fire, and when I breathe them it feels... sweet, but a bit spicy. And I have, like, this big ball of fire inside me that feels a bit like dinner at Maran Kar's Garden Restaurant if you order a Spicy Fried Chicken Special."

You sigh and nod, getting dressed. She didn't faint like Millian and Regis, when you Awakened their Essence with your Charm, but you suspect it'll still be a few hours before her brain gets back on track.

Still, you'll admit that even being conscious and able to move and talk at all proves that she already had a somewhat innate grasp and understanding of Essence. You have to wonder if it was because she was already a priestess.

"Don't gooooo..." She mumbles, trying to grab you by the clothes, misjudging the distance, grabbing the bed's blanket instead, and looking very confused when it doesn't seem to work.

You cast a glance at the door. There's a lot of stuff you should take care of, and there's just six days before the Silver Prince's fleet arrives.

As much as you'd like to spend this time lazing around, relaxing, and playing with your followers and friends... well, it would be a bit foolish.

On the other hand...

It's not a full point yet (because Cult 3 represents a major local religion), but nearly. You'd need to either get a higher population in Tianna, to expand off-island, or to focus worship more on your own self (and you voted against that last thread) for Cult 3.

"Sorry." You flash her a smile. "But I've got work to do."

"I want to come with you..." She mumbles, but she looks more like she's talking to the pillow than to you.

"Just stay here and rest." You respond. She probably can't even walk right now. "Take care of yourself."

"Mistres Maka?" Oh, she remembered.

"What?" You stop on the door.

"You are amazing."

"I know." You giggle, closing the door. "Now sleep it out."

You have stuff to do, unfortunately.

And first of all... you ask around for Zareen, who should be handling counter-espionage here in Tianna City. Five Tails has already left for Pearl, ahead of everyone else, to take care of the same problem there.

You know for sure that the Silver Prince has spies here, after all.

After a bit, you locate Zareen on the castle's roof, where she established a temporary command post for her operation. Messengers come and go, carrying reports and orders to and from one of the castle's fortified artillery towers.

It might not be a conventional place where to put an intelligence office, but it has a great bird's eye view of the city, surrounding villages, docks and bay.

You're lucky to find Zareen there. She's more of a field operative than she is an organizer, so you bet she'll spend most of her time down in the streets rather than here.

"Maka." She nods as you enter. "I just finished checking reports from all over the city." She groans, tossing a sheaf of papers on her table.

The "office", having been improvised, is very spartan, mostly consisting of just tables and chairs, with Tiannan soldiers, officers and magistrates milling about. You actually feel a bit in the way, both because you physically are (artillery emplacements aren't very spacious, even once you have removed the actual artillery) and because many of the workers here are finding you very... distracting.

"Let me guess." You reply, grabbing a chair. "You didn't like what you found."

(cont.)

(votes very close, Ocean Father will be after this)
>>
"I didn't, but not in the way you imagine." She replies. That... sounded weird.

"...What do you mean?"

She tosses a map of Tianna City on the table. There are red crosses drawn in various locations. You recognize some of them: back alleys, abandoned housing, the docks. Looks like around two dozen marks.

"What are those?"

"Places where we found traces of incinerated undead." She explains. "Some of them with still-intact clothing that suggests that they might have been camouflaged as normal citizens. Others are traces of what Tianna's sorcerors and thaumaturges inform me it's the remains of slain ghosts."

You stare at the crosses a bit more. "...I don't get it." You admit.

"Neither do I." She nods. "Someone is taking out undead spies in Tianna."

"Someone who?" You ask.

She shrugs. "Some citizens talk of flashes of light and strange events that could be sorceries, magical battles, banishments or something like that. A lot of people are convinced that it's you who is doing this."

"...Me?" You ask.

"Well, yeah. Word is going around that you summoned an "Angel of Light" with your sorcery, to purge the wicked from the city." She seems to find the idea amusing.

"...These people of course have no idea that the people being incinerated are undead spies. They think that I'm blowing up random people?"

She nods. "Well, only some believe that. There isn't a popular consensus on what's really happening. Some actually talk of seeing "monsters" do battle with this "Angel of Light". And I'll save you the insane conspiracy theories."

"Please do." You nod.

"...Sounds like an ally." You mumble. "Isn't this a good thing?"

"Is it?" Zareen responds, sounding frustrated. "We have no idea what this guy or organization wants, or is after. Can we trust what's happening?"

"Mh." You don't really have an answer. "Did you spot Phoenix again lately?"

"He's not in town, or if he is he's keeping his head very much down."

"Any chance this could be him?" You wonder. "The flash of light could be some essence-discharge weapon he has."

"Mh. It could be." The Wood-aspect replies. "He probably knows how to efficiently take out ghosts and undead. And if he's serious about us not finding him, I think we wouldn't have a chance to spot him." She hangs her head, disheartened. "Sorry, this kind of counter-espionage work is not something I'm very experienced at."

"It's okay." You reassure her. "You just started. For now... I'd like you to try and contact this mysterious individual. Confirm his identity, and so on. But... until you have proof of the contrary, treat him as a mysterious benefactor rather than an enemy. If he's a possible ally, even an ally of convenience, I don't want to alienate him."

"Ever the optimist, huh?" She grins. She doesn't seem to share your impression, but she seems willing to go with it. "Alright. It's a reasonable course of action. But let me tell you, this guy is GOOD. Someone that skilled in infiltration could've already caused untold damage to our forces with sabotage and misinformation and we would probably only realize once the battle starts."

You take a deep breath, and pat her back. "...Do your best."

She groans. "I'll try." She replies, grabbing a new report from one of the soldiers milling about as it's being offered to her.

You thank Zareen for her hard work and leave her improvised headquarters, going mentally through your "to do" list.

Ocean Father.

He's the main god of the Western Ocean. He's powerful, and, although you've only talked once, he seems to like you. You also asked him to see if he can find Admiral Rajan Hazaakaa, lost at sea in the battle against the Lintha.

If you want to meet him in a more proper manner, you'll have to do things in a proper way. You'll need something to sacrifice, decide how and where to meet him...

>There's a small temple to him in Tianna City, near the docks. You'll call on to him there.
>You'll take a ship and head to sea, and handle it yourself.
>You'll take a ship and head to sea, but first ask the temple's priest to come with you.

Combine with:

>You don't need to bring a sacrifice
>As a sacrifice, you'll dedicate a song or dance.
>As a sacrifice, you'll bring some minor trinket or gift.
>As a sacrifice, you'll offer to him something fairly major and important.

You switch into an appropriate dress for what you have in mind with a thought, and head down to the docks to visit Ocean Father's temple in Tianna City.

...but, as you do, you feel something falling off you. You turn around, to see a bit of paper fluttering to the ground.

it says, hastily written in pencil in rounded letters: "If you want to talk to me that bad, we can finally meet each other once you're back!"

There is no signature except for a stylized smiling face in the corner.

You glance back at the stairs leading up to the roof. ...It must've happened there.

Was the mysterious agent there? ...disguised as one of Tianna's soldiers and officers, perhaps. Or just hidden very well? You hadn't noticed anything...

You look at the paper again. It doesn't look like a threat.

You focus on that word... "finally". How long as this been going on?

Thinking about it, you remember Amata telling you about the first appearances of the "Angel of Light" around the time of the expedition to the Lintha base... Or maybe earlier?

Shrugging, you walk into the temple. It's a small but luxurious marble building near the docks area, made from white, blue-veined marble cut in decorated pillars and a flat, triangular roof. Everything is adorned with aniconic imagery of flowing waves... probably an influence of the Immaculate Faith and its dislike of icons and images of worship. Pools of clear seawater, slowly flowing to keep it from becoming stale and algae-ridden, line both sides of the rectangular construction. In the centre, rather than an altar, a fountain has the seat of honor.

A few worshipers, all with a distinctively seaman-ish look, merchants or fishermen or navy personnel (some of which are familiar faces, from your crews), are standing around, in silent prayer, or tossing coins or little gems in the fountain.

(cont.)
>>
One of the men standing around, a man with the grizzled, tanned look of a veteran seaman, nearly bald but sporting an impressive, greying beard outgrowing ancient dreadlocks, corresponds to the description you have of the high priest of the Ocean Father, going by the name of Kanaan.

You nod to him. "I need your help. Will you listen to my request?"

You see him nervously eyeing you, like he's unsure if he should throw himself at your feet or something like that. "D-divine Maka?"

Has Pyre Spark been spreading that way of calling you around?

"I wish to talk to Ocean Father. He and I had a meeting at sea not long ago, and I now need to see him again." You politely explain. "I was thinking of taking a ship out to sea and perform a rite for him. Would you help me?"

He seems reassured by your comfortable, friendly tone. He was probably expecting you to ask him to kneel before you or something. "I... I, but I, I'm not worthy of such..."

"You're Ocean Father's priest here in Tianna, are you not?" You suggest. "I can't think of anyone more worthy, and even if I could just perform the rite and prayer myself it seems like a rude gesture to not include Ocean Father's chosen representative."

He bows deeply. "You honor me." Some people around the temple spontaneously start clapping.

You gesture to your crewmen in the temple. "Once you're done, meet me at the ships, alright?"

You and Kanaan meet on the Bloodshark with its captain, Rubel Sareni, and explain the situation to him.

"Alright, you basically just need to go into deep waters." He understands. "I'll admit, ever since I started working for you, life has gotten certainly interesting. I never thought I'd get to see Ocean Father twice, much less actually go out to meet him."

You smile. "How are the men?"

"Morale's high." he says, taking the wheel as the ship begins to build up speed and leave the docks. "We paid the men divvying up the Lintha's loot. It's more cash in a month than some of them have got in six months from pirating in these waters. Even those who didn't really feel like following your crazy plan was a good idea have come around."

"...Did you handle compensation for the dead and wounded?"

"We did." He nods gravely. "That's also a good factor in the crew's high morale. They feel like they're being taken good care of, which is the most they can ask for."

"...What do you mean?" That was worded quite oddly.

He turns to you. "We're in a world of gods and monsters and incredibly powerful beings such as yourself. I and my crew are just normal mortals. We don't really have the ability to chose our fate or forge a path for ourselves anymore. The best scenario we can hope for is to have some of these powerful beings on our side. Taking food care of us. And hope that we can stay employed. That we don't become useless and obsolete, that those beings stay powerful enough to protect us and provide for us, but not so powerful that they won't need us any more."

This is what they want. This kind of reassurance, to be useful to be wanted around. Friendship is nice and all, but it just doesn't between regular mortals and immortal beings. The mortals would either be forgotten, replaced, maybe get in a fight and lose the friendship, etc.

It's too frickle, friendship with mortals.

That's not it at all. It's much more that these pirates weren't our friends in the first place - they were our employees. Remember, we were royalty even before exalting. We go for friendly-but-not-actually-friends leadership by default, when we're employing people for a service.

It'd be like making friends with the mailman or something. A few people certainly might, but most will just at best smile, nod, and thank them for a safe delivery.

It's that they're our employees, not that they're mortals.

>>38626434
>I don't mind a Talking to the Heart too
I could be convinced of TttH. What's our essence currently at? We want to save enough for a really good prayer to the Ocean Father.

Who's hoping that the Ocean Father drops big hints that we're now the UCS's favorite?

We've got plenty anon. Talking to Ocean Father will just take the essence for MRP.

Don't bother with TttH when praying. TttH is for saying something in a way that it will be taken the best way possible. It's wasted when we're saying something that can't easily be misinterpreted as offensive or insulting.
>>
>>38626523

Not really. Succeding your roll doesn't help if you're doing something stupid
>>
>>38626523
>I'm uncertain about this. Won't this encourage people to weigh up the probabilities of success in rolls, rather than the relative merits of each choice?
That's the reason I didn't want to do this in the first place, but since everyone got enormously pissed and filled my ask.fm with flames and insults, now you also get to cherry-pick rolls to ensure you only get to roll the things you're best at.
>>
With all the prayer we do, why isn't a prayer enhancement charm on the table yet anyway?

That leaves us 4 for whatever we'll need it for.
>>
>>38626571
As much as the possibility is there for it to be potentially exploited, its better to have it and keep us informed, and we're more likely to go with stupid in character options rather than smart options anyway.

We kind of already tried to stick to what we're good at, now we just know when we should roll and when charms are applicable instead of not knowing what our character is actually doing...

Don't worry though, we'll still pick the full retard options even when the dice won't be favorable.

>Things were fine, we didn't have that kind of complaint before, or at least not as badly.
There was a constant undercurrent of it, it just exploded recently after a particularly troublesome example of the problem. The change has been made; perhaps you should drop it now instead?
>>
>>38626593
No things were not fine, and we have been complaining about it from the beginning.

When us the players, have no idea what our character is doing mechanically, and we're meant to be choosing our actions and using our abilities while being blind about when we can and need to roll, then we are not actually the players, we're just bystanders.

This change has been a long time coming and I'm thankful that EF has finally deigned to let us know what our character is doing so we can actually play them.
>>
>>38626571

Cherry picking stuff we're good at but that doesn't help the situation is stupid

[TALKING TO THE HEART]
[ESSENCE: 5/6]
[Social + Zenith = 10 1 3 7 5 3 1 8 5 6 = 4 succ.]

"Don't be silly." You tell him. "You are great help, and I can't imagine you and the job you do ever becoming obsolete or unnecessary."

He smiles. "Thank you, Maka." Is his answer. "This... means a lot to me. And to my men."

"You're not just a crew." You inform him. "You're my crew. And you're a great crew. And if you stick around me I'll make you the best crew that's ever sailed on the western seas."

"Aye aye." He grins, as the Bloodshark sails into the deep sea.

It's time. You step onto the prowside deck, cleared for the occasion. As the sun sets, Kanaan blesses you with saltwater mixed with perfumes, sprinkled from a small, finely decorated copper amphora. Under his orders, Rubel's men toss small coins and seashells overboard, and the ship folds its sails and slowly come to a halt.

The rite starts. Kanaan solemnly puts in your mouth a perfectly cubic crystal of salt, as large as half a fingernail. As the taste spreads and numbs your mouth, he steps back and you begin your dance.

(Talking to the Heart is mostly useful to not be misunderstood and properly convey a meaning. You could want to use it once you make an official request to Ocean Father, but it's useless on a prayer roll)

[MAJESTIC RADIANT PRESENCE]
[ESSENCE: 4/6]

Your castemark light up, and you begin your dance.

It starts low and sinuous, sensual, attention-grabbing. you gently weave through the deck in slow circles, your transparent veils sweeping behind you in suggestive trails.

Then, bit by bit, you build up speed. You gyrate and sommersault, backflip, breakdance in wildly acrobatic movements.
But, going with the rhythm, you then slow down once again, and then speed back up, alternating between the two styles and everything in between, crescendo and diminuendo.

Finally, you end your performance on the very prow of the ship, facing the sea.

In front of the still-astonished faces of the onlookers, Ocean Father rises from the waves in front of you. Tall as ten men, flowing with water and light, the entire Ocean reflected on his rippling surface.

"Kanaan." the God nods gracefully at his priest. Even though you're here, and you performed the prayer, he's sticking to godly etiquette: Kanaan is his ranking priest here, so he is greeting him first. And then Kanaan should introduce you appropriately.

The priest bows deeply. "My sire, Lord of the West, Daimyo of the Seas. Maka, Princess of the Earth, Chosen of the Sun, desires an audience with you."

"That I grant." The god turns, finally, to you. "It's a pleasure to meet you again."

What are you going to ask him?

>Talk about the situation but make no requests
>Ask for help (intelligence on the enemy)
>Ask for help (slow the fleet down)

"I presume this is about Skullstone's fleet." He gets to business immediately.

"You certainly know of everything of import that happens in your sea." You respond, suitably impressed. "Indeed, I and the queen of Tianna are worried about these developments."

"As the god of this ocean, I am not supposed to take a side in this conflict, you certainly realize." He says. "As hated and feared as Skullstone is in my realm, that country is not an enemy of mine. Just like Tianna, Coral, the Neck, Wavecrest, all the other nations of the West, they trade on my waves, fish under my waves, and pay sacrifice to me. I am the Ocean Father, and the Ocean belongs to everyone." He says.

"...I understand." You nod.

Honestly that's pretty amazing as far as gods go, most would take whatever bribes they can from where they could to try and enhanced their position and there's nothing like the status of having a Deathlord at your back because you helped him once.

The vast god giggles merrily. "Oh, you really have a mistaken opinion of me. I'm nowhere that virtuous."

But, a second voice speaks to you. It's Ocean Father's, but it echoes directly in your ears, a much closer whisper that must be inaudible to anyone else but you.

<<There is one thing you might offer me to obtain my help. Directly if you own it, or swearing a bound oath that you will hunt for it and turn it to me in the likely case that you do not. His job is literally to be a neutral facilitator of oceanic travel, fishing, and its ecosystems. Until the Prince's fleet is poisoning the ocean, or something, simply letting them pass without interference is EXACTLY his job.

So yes, the lack of corruption on that matter is fairly honorable, and even if it wasn't, CALLING THE OCEAN FATHER A CUNT IS A BAD MOVE POLITICALLY.

If they can get him audited, then other major gods can also be audited because they and everyone else in Yu-Shan also take bribes regularly, and these guys will then use all the blackmail they have on other gods to drag them down with them amd in the end of the day we'll have Heaven in disarray, minor gods squabbling and picking up what spoils they can while the Sids run around doing their best to do some damage control.
Meanwhile, Raksha, demons and other enemies of creation can run free because the Gods can't do their jobs well and the Sids are too busy to orchestrate their defeat.

Your spoken conversation goes on as normal.

"Did you find any trace of Rajan Hazaakaa, by any chance."

"I did not. I have asked the current spirits, the totems of the many creatures dwelling within me, and of those who inhabit the oceanic floor, and the search is still going on. As my servants expand the perimeter of their investigations, I begin to suspect that either chance or a definite will has carried away Rajan Hazaakaa from the area. Either that, or hidden to my gaze."

"A will? Could that will be his own? Could he be still alive and moving under his own power? He is a Terrestrial Exalted of the Water Aspect, and very much in his element within your domain."

"It could be, but I have no guarantee of it."

Meanwhile, the whisper continues:

<<There is an item I desire over anything else. I will name it and describe it to you only if you accept to seek for it. It is not an information I ever released to anyone not oathbound to secrecy. I will grant any one any request, within my power, to anyone who would find it and turn it over to me. On top of that, swear that you will do your best to aid me in finding this item, and I will aid you against the Silver Prince.>>

He must be detecting your suspicion, because he continues: <<Knowledge is power. If you knew what I seek, you could well retrieve it for yourself and then hold it hostage, or sell the information to others for your own benefit. If these conditions seem harsh to you, you are free to refuse. I will not hold it against you. As a ruler yourself, I am sure you understand.>>

<<If you agree to seek this item, nod once more. I will meet you in either Tianna or Pearl, wherever you and your circlemate Mikahil will be, so that he may sanctify our oath. If not, shake your head, and we shall speak no more of this.>>

"First of all, I wish for you to provide me with all intelligence you have on the Prince's fleet." You inform him. "Then, fight him on the sea. Provide hostile currents and winds. Slow their fleet down. Call storms against him."

He fidgets nervously.

"Finally, my future city of Pearl is being constructed. I plan for it to be complete before the Prince's forces arrive."

He stares. "...You cannot possibly seriously hope for a city to be completed in seven days."

"I do." You point a finger at him. "And you shall assist. Speed the Denzik ships carrying supplies and construction materials to Tianna, and provide from the bounty of the seas to aid the construction effort. Fish and seafood. Granite. Marble. Iron. Copper. Silver. Gold."

You see him hesitate. "...You ask me much."

"You can't provide it?" You reply, planting your fists on your hips and standing up to him.

"...I can, but this will mark me as an enemy of the Silver Prince."

"As you should be, should you not?"

"If he strikes back at me in anger, will you aid me? Not as a mere gesture: do you have the power and the willingness to help defend my Realm from him just like I will do to you?"

Allying with small Tianna against large and powerful Skullstone is an EXTREMELY hazardous choice from his point of view. One that's he's making exclusively because of two things:

What better occasion than the docks, at night, in a dark alley? Assuming they are as good as they seem to be, they probably already know you're here... They might be following you right now, in fact.

You can't help but feel a little bit paranoid. The shadows seem to shift at the corner of your vision, and every little noise makes you jump.

...Is this really a good idea? A show of trust and confidence could come to your advantage, but it could also be dangerous. If you are attacked here, no one will help you.

Time like this really make me wish we had Adamant Skin Technique, it's better for sudden time where we don't want to commit 2 essence as a just in case.

>>
Rolled 10 (1d10)

Yeah that could be useful too, I kinda want to see if we can get Val to learn that though, then we can trade mortals and get everyone up to spec.
>>
>>38628476
Sorcery? Terrestrial Circle would be useful in a pinch, though the trials would be inconvenient. Occult charms might be nice, especially if we end up fighting Deathlords.
>>
>>38628476
We've made ourselves as much into a planning, delegating ruler as a powerhouse of laying the smack down, so I think having some smarts to back up those plans couldn't hurt. Especially since people are looking to us more and more for the decisions.

>>38628476
Twilight could be useful for Training charms and more essence.

But aside from that, yeah, we'd suffer from diversifying too much into that rather than benefiting.
>>
>>38628550
If we do want to get that Twilight training Charm, then we'd need to get all out Stats to 3 to make the most of it, but after that we can focus on charms for the foreseeable future.
>>
Rolled 5 (1d10)

>>38628550
It's hard to overstate how fucking good Training charms like Tiger Warrior, Kiss of the Sun, and Peerless Curriculum are for leadership-type exalts. Which we are.

>>38628569
True enough. Everything at 3, Tiger Warrior Training Technique, Peerless Curriculum Method, and Kiss of the Sun is a perfect foundation.

The downside is that downtime/time skips are ABSOLUTELY MANDATORY to actually get appreciable use out of those times.

And we almost NEVER have meaningful downtime in this quest.

It might not actually be a good idea to bother with Training charms, in the same way that if it weren't for this plot contrivance it wouldn't be a good idea to focus on Pearl. For case and point on that matter, look at how far we've managed to actually train our pirate crews since getting Tiger Warrior Training Technique. Very close to not at all.

We don't have downtime in this quest.
>>
You're tempted to look around, searching the alley, scanning for your (real or imagined) stalker, but you try and restrain your instinct.
If Zareen couldn't find even a clue or a hint, you doubt you're going to find him if he doesn't want to be found.

You stand in the dark alley, clad in your formal regalia, a stark contrast to the common squalor of your surroundings. And wait.

After a handful of seconds, you feel something touching your backside in a definitely inappropriate way. Turning around instinctively, you see absolutely nothing.
...the culprit must be invisible, or amazingly fast, because you didn't catch even a glimpse.

"...very funny." You mumble.

You hear a giggle. A bright, distinctly feminine voice. One you're not familiar with. "I actually wanted to steal your panties." The voice candidly admits. "But you're not going to leave the the satisfaction today, are you?"

"I don't wear them often." You admit. "...wait, today?"

"If you wore them more often you'd have realized that by now."

You feel a tap on your shoulder, and turn around to find, standing behind you, absolutely silent, a young girl, lithe and slender and sporting a manic grin, clad in a heavily customized version of what it takes you a while to recognize as Tianna's Engineer Corps uniform, sans the white cape. Irene's unit. She's sporting a large concussive essence cannon slung behind her back, and a pocket one in a holster on her belt.

You just barely see the vanishing imprint of a hollow circle on her forehead. The Night Castemark.

"...How long have you been there?"

"There?" She asks innocently. You spot a couple of old, familiar induments peeking out of the satchel tied to her belt. "Do you mean stalking you? Or in Tianna in general?"

(No, that's not how the charm works. It only goes from you to the Elsewhere wardrobe and back.)

"...both." You reply. You cross your arms and stand there, putting a stern air, but this situation does amuse you.

"Since I saw you stop that airship with your bare hands." She replies.

"...since I Exalted?" And you never realized?

Wait. Waaait. You try and focus on that face. That face IS familiar.

She was one of the soldiers you led to the castle, right after you Exalted, chasing after Fleurdelis.

Not just that: you feel like you've seen her other times. A soldier, a passerby, a pirate from your crews, a low-ranking magistrate or officer in Tianna's castle...

"So when did YOU Exalt?" You ask her back.

"About a month before that." She shrugs. "Used to be a trainee in the Engineers."

"...so you must be pretty smart, miss...?"

"Radiant Starfall!" She proclaims, and spins in place, letting her Anima briefly surge in a display of lights and colors. From nowhere, a bright, cheerful music echoes as flows of Essence gather around her and spin playfully, shaping up as brilliant wings behind her and large, showy ribbons on her neck, waist, wrists and ankles. "The guardian angel of Tianna, a lovely magical thief after your heart!" The whole performance ends in a (clearly rehearsed) pose, with her blowing a kiss at you.

You have to admit, you're impressed.
But she can do better, and you can help. You're the number one at showing off, after all.

"Not bad, not bad" you grin. You see her face bending into a frown, clearly hoping to have impressed you more. "But you twirl just a bit too fast, and you show your back to the audience a bit too much."

"Oh?" You have her complete attention.

"I mean, it's not like it isn't cute, but you need to keep your face a bit more towards the audience. And maybe you could have the skirt lift a bit higher?"

"Eeh, I'd rather leave that kind of service to you, miss Maka. I'm a bit too plain for that."

"That's not true, though. Even without the Essence display and not counting the modded uniform, you're plenty cute."

"No, no, not at all, miss Maka-"

"You can call me Maka."

"Mi-M-Miss- M-Maka."

"Oh, and..." With a smile and a thought, you flash between a few different outfits in your arsenal.

That left her speechless. She extends a hand to touch the fabric, to check if it's illusory or real.

Once she's touching it, you change costume again, to demonstrate.

"...this trick is new."

"Quite new, yes." You reply. "Hadn't you seen it yet?"

"I saw you with different outfits, I just thought you changed while I was minding other stuff." She looks up to you' expectantly, and her special effects actually make stars in her eyes and sparkles around her face, while increasing luminosity and saturation by 20% and adding a rainbow background. Back to a serious subject.

"...what are you planning from now on, Starfall? And why did you keep hidden up to now?"

She winces and recoils, like you just struck her. You almost regret asking the question.

"W...well... At first, before you arrived, I was busy with taking down the Cult of the Seventh Eye..."

"...What are those?" You never heard about that.

"Oh, they were a malfean cult hidden in Tianna, working to create the conditions to summon some Second Circle Demon to grant them power or wishes or something like that."

"...that sounds alarming. Why did no one ever tell me about this?" You ask.

"Well, no one ever knew." She shrugs. "I took care of them without anyone noticing."

"...how did you find them in the first place?"

She seems to shy away. "I, uh. I was one of the sacrifices."

Alright, that was dark. Especially that "one of the".

"...once I took them out, I didn't really feel like upsetting people by revealing what happened. Everyone seemed happy to not know anything."

"...and that became a habit." You guess.

She nods. "When I saw you, I thought I'd follow you a bit to see if you were a good person."

You sigh. "And you never showed yourself."

"I was... Afraid that you'd get mad or not like me. Or just... To be noticed. No one ever noticed me... I used to hate that, but being at the centre of attention is..."

You can guess where this is going. "You're not really Radiant Starfall."

(Cont.)
>>
"I am!" She interrupts you, but then hesitates. "I... Uh, I am, but... I'm also, or, well, I used to be Janet Deer. I was just... I was just a normal girl, you know. Before all the crazy happened. But...then all this happened, and I saw I could be a heroine if I wanted to."

"You made a secret identity." You conclude.

"No one remembers Janet Deer. Well, except for mom and dad and my little brother. And some of my closest friends." She laughs awkwardly. "But I think people would remember Radiant Starfall if she starts fighting in the open. Just... I'm afraid that they might get involved. Or... Hate me for hiding it from them."

Hang on a sec. waaait a sec.

So about that charm Starfall used.

...can you imagine the sex?

I mean, between Tia, who is a shapeshifter that can transform independently different parts of her body and is insanely strong, and Maka who can change "outfits" with a thought and can create music and special effects out of nowhere?

Pity EF will never write anything explicit.

So, how do you guys feel about the fact that every time we say 'no' to Tia and she's forced to restrain herself, she gains a point of Limit, leading her ever closer to snapping and raping us into a coma?

"Well... welcome to the circle, Janet Deer."

She almost winces at the name. "Can... can you stick to Radiant Starfall? I just..."

"You have a secret identity thing going on, I understand." You nod, amused. "I give you my word."

"Thank you."

A few seconds of awkward silence follow, with her fidgeting nervously.

"...And thank you for taking out those spies."

"Um. Thank you. It's okay."

"...will you be helping us out from now on?" You guess that she gets really shy once the adrenaline kicks back.

"Um." She nods affirmatively.

That won't do. You grab her hand and pull her out of the alleyway.

"Uh? Eh? What?" She doesn't resist, but just shuts down from confusion.

"Come with me!" You proclaim. "I'm going to introduce Radiant Starfall to everyone else in the palace! You already know them anyway, right? it's only appropriate that they get to know you!"

I'd give out XP for that.
Remember, up to now all extra XP from player participation has been in the form of drawings, but I reward with XP (or a small request) ALL stuff you do, as long as it's decently good, quest-related, and took a bit of effort. Writefaggotry is included. Even porn: just because I've decided I won't write it during this quest doesn't mean I disapprove of it.

Speaking of XP:
2 XP (Base)
1 XP (Ocean's Alliance)
1 XP (Perfect Circle Get)

Charms incoming.

I COULD make a second thread, but i have to leave in two hours, so that seems a bit of a waste.

If you need anything from me, I have my ask.fm! You can even use it to contact me privately, just specify that you don't want your question published. (I won't have a way to get back at you just as privately, though...)

And yes, work on the new system is proceeding.
>>
>>38630180
To improve even further we'd have to increase Physical though. I imagine Physical 5, Social 5, Zenith 5 Maka would be some kind of sexual tyrannosaurus.

I hope this new system EF talks about will have greater incentives for Physical. I wouldn't mind "cute and sexy musclegirl Maka".

No, it's really not. Artifact armor works by covering you in plates of magical material so massive and heavy that only someone Attuned to it can even move in it. The exception is stuff like Discreet Essence Armor, which actually protects you in a force field.

Exalted is big on logical deconstructions of magical items, like 'daiklaves do tons of damage because they're 300 lbs of magically-hard gold made light enough to swing for the wielder, but still hitting with the force of 300 lbs of magically-hard gold.'

So, while nipple plates could easily be, say, the equivalent of Hearthstone Amulets, you're not going to see them grant a Soak bonus unless you integrate enough magitech to make them coat you in a force field.

>For some reason, the Unconquered Sun did not saw it fit to make charms on that.
What about charms which help to regulate prayer flow from cults? A Permanent Zenith charm which augments the things we can do with our cult, or increases its net gains, or lets us cut off or enhance the flow of prayer from other cults, could be quite useful both as the High Priest to the Sun and when negotiating with gods and spirits of all stripes. Something like, say, 'Make a Social + Zenith roll to lead a group player in front of a cult to which you have access and commit 1 Essence. For as long as you leave that essence committed, the gains to the recipient of that worship are reduced or increased by your Zenith score.'

I don't know.

The UCS personally made the solar charms? That's a pretty serious deviation from canon. Any chance Maka can develop one? Or do we have a closed charmset like sids?

>>
>>38630706
That's not a bad idea. I'll write a charm or two for that in the new system.

>>38630748
There's no real distinction. all Solar Charms come naturally to the Solar Exalted. I'm just saying that for some reason the purview of Solars does not include charms for prayer, just like it doesn't include shapeshifting, throwing elemental bolts, or manipulating fate.

Fuck yeah! I've always through interacting with Cult mechanics and the regulation of prayer flow fit Zeniths to a T. That, and Maka leading all of Tianna in a group prayer-song to herself for a climactic battle is something that should both happen, and have massively fucking sweet results.
>>
>>38631062
Right now it doesn't.

Unless someone has social "soak" or defenses, or you're acting against some core intimacy or motivation they have, this means that touching Maka's makas can essentially demolish anyone's psyche and rearrange it the way she wants.
