"Sneasel," you say softly, "Have you seen my Dragon Scale?"

He freezes, then slowly turns to face you while trying to hide something with his body. He struggles to fight the mischievous grin that's creeping on his face.

You see Vance noticing something's going on. He gets up and starts making his way over.

"Sneasel, I want to give you the benefit of the doubt here. If you know where it is, just let me know."

His eyes dart between you and Vance. Suddenly he starts running over to Vance and jumps on his back, then leaps away. Vance just barely manages to catch it "Hey! What are you doing?"

Sneasel puts a hand over it’s mouth and points at Vance’s pocket in feigned shock. Vance pulls a Dragon Scale out of his pocket.

“You put that on me!” He says, mad. He throws it over to you. “Sorry about that, Kat.”

You catch it. “Vance, you need to do something about Sneasel.”

He looks at the Pokemon, hanging by the arm Vance is holding. “I don’t know what to do with him. He’s just such a jerk! Ursaring I understand. She wanted respect. Sneasel just wants to get a reaction out of people or something. I don't know.” He sighs. “I don’t think I can train him. Maybe I should just let him go.”

Sneasel tries to get loose, ignoring whatever Vance is blabbering about.

>You understand. Vance only caught it to stop it from causing trouble in the hotel anyway
>No! He can’t abandon it!
>He just hasn’t found the right approach yet. He should keep trying
>He should find a good trainer to give it to instead of releasing it

After a bit if thougt I'd like to change my vote.

We should have a go at taking sneasel on ourselves and seeing if we can get the best out of him. He kind of reminds me of how we started out. A cheeky little sod. Maybe we can do for sneasel what robin did for us?

You walk up with Destiny in your arms, careful to avoid having her points poke into you. “Y think you should find a good trainer to give him to instead.”

He puts Sneasel down. It crawls back up Vance onto his shoulder, then gives you a very rude gesture and snickers. “I don’t think anyone would take him, but I could try.”

“Or...” You have another idea, too. “I could try training him.” You don’t really like the little bastard, but in a way you feel a kinship with him. He’s a lot like you were. Always getting into trouble, never listening, unwanted.

Vance looks unsure. “I don’t know Kat. That’s asking a lot. You have a lot going on right now. Are you sure?”

Destiny bubbles furiously at Sneasel’s taunts and gestures.

You bend over to look Sneasel in the face. He pulls down his bottom eyelid and sticks his tongue out. You just laugh.

“You’re right. I can’t take him from you. I’ll help you train him though.” You feel like in a way, taking him from Vance is still an abandonment. You don’t like seeing anyone or anything being given up on.

Vance eyes Sneasel suspiciously. “Alright. I guess I can keep trying, if you’re willing to help.”

Destiny wiggles in your arms, looking at the Dragon Scale.

“Eager, are we?” You playfully poke her on the nose.

She bubbles happily. You take the distraction to adjust yourself so her points don’t get you. “Alright, let’s do a quick trade.”

You give her the Dragon Scale and invite Robin over again. You do the trade and watch together as Destiny turns into a Kingdra!

The familiar lightshow crescendos and reveals Destiny in all her glory. She looks majestic! And strong! She bubbles, but instead of being the powerless, cute gesture it was, it’s surprisingly noble looking. You feel pumped as you take in her confidence.

“You look amazing, Destiny!” You run over and give her a hug. You can tell she feels amazing too.

She tries bounce, and succeeds. You were worried you might be rushing this, but it looks like all the countless hours trainer her agility is still paying off. You'll give her some more attention in a second, but you're also evolving Raistlin today. You reach for his Pokeball.

Sneasel runs over and gives Destiny a shove from behind, making her fall into the mud of the old mining area you’re training in.

>Training starts now. Sneasel is going to dodge attacks from all of your Pokemon, starting with Destiny
>Why that little... kick him in the butt! See how he likes it

“How kind of you to volunteer as a target dummy, Sneasel.”

He stops running around and looks at you with a confused expression. Destiny gets up behind him, looking extremely unpleased.

“Time to train that accuracy, Destiny.” You give her a nod.

She fires a small burst of water at Sneasel feet, causing him to jump. He scrambles away as she follows up with more. He can really move!

Vance laughs. “That’s my kind of training!” he takes out his Machoke to watch.

You almost second guess yourself, but then Sneasel makes an obscene gesture at Destiny when she misses. You’ll toss out some partners to ramp up the difficulty in a minute. First, you’re evolving Raistlin!

The wise, professional looking Kadabra greets you as you release it from it’s ball. He leans over ever so slightly to see the commotion that Destiny and Sneasel are making, then gives you his full attention.

Vance starts sparring with Machoke. It occurs to you that it also evolves from trading.

Even though you’ve done it pretty casually with Robin, trading still seems like a pretty personal, trusting thing to you. You know your friends would never pull a fast one on you, but you still feel protective of your Pokemon

You look over to Vance. He’s taken his shirt off and sparring with Machoke. He’s concentrating hard to parry and block attacks while looking for an opening. He’s really gotten good. He used to be all about raw power, but his training has been paying off. After a long exchange, he just barely gets the best of Machoke, giving him an open palmed push in the chest.

“Hey Vance, why don’t we trade to evolve Raistlin and Machoke?”

Sweat glistens off his body as he turns to his Pokemon. You can’t really blame Jeanine for always dragging him off somewhere. You wonder how many fans he’ll get with the TV show. “Well, how about it. Do you want to evolve into Machamp?”

Machoke flexes his muscles and looks determined. He wants to get stronger.

With that, you begin the trade.

“A lot of evolutions today,” Robin says excitedly.

Jeanine looks on with folded arms. “I think a lot of Pokemon were just due. I have a feeling I know who's next...” she teases. As an aura reader, she’s been able to predict it pretty reliably.

Both Pokemon glow and pulse nearly in sync. Raistlin is now an Alakazam!

Surprisingly, Raistlin gives you a thumbs up gesture. It’s slow and not really all that charismatic, but it’s the most outward personality you’ve seen from him.

You quickly trade back and Vance gets to work sparking with Machoke, who easily manages to beat him now.

You check over Raistlin for awhile and he seems fine. He looks a little unsure of all of his new power, but you’re sure that will fade. You set him to work chasing after Sneasel after Clair gifts him another spoon.

You call over Destiny now that she’s warmed up. You promised her and Raistlin a lot of training today.

You train Destiny on her agility. Jeanine is kind enough to help with her Pokemon. First it’s just Thistle, but as Destiny is easily able to dodge, you ramp it up. You have Triton join, then her Charmander, and then her Scyther.

They’re just aiming to touch her, not hurt her, but she’s still dodging beautifully. She’s lost a small about of maneuverability compared to when she was just a small little Horsea, but she’s starting to catch back up.

Clair comes up from behind and leans against Jeanine. “You’re Pokemon couldn’t hit a sleeping Wailord, cowtits.”

Jeanine melts into a pink puddle and Clair crashes into the ground.

“Ditto!” The real Jeanine comes running from off to the side. “You get in there and help out too!”

You give Destiny some pointers on using her new weight and momentum. After you’re both satisfied with that, you set to work Learning Hydro Pump and Dragon Pulse. Since you’ve decided to dedicate most of the day to Destiny and Raistlin, you’re able to get a lot done. She gets a lot of practice in, but you’re not sure if the moves are battle ready yet. You guess you’ll only know for sure when the time comes.

Watching her move, a thought occurs to you. You decide to test it out. “Destiny, use Agility.”

Destiny uses Agility. Just like that.

“Great job!” You give her a big, full bodied, carefree hug. There’s no Poison Point to worry about here.

Next is Raistlin’s turn.

You rotate Pokemon who are chasing after Sneasel. Vlad, Nibbles, Trunks, and Devon all have a great time. As Sneasel becomes more worn down, his taunts and gestures fade. He’s doing a lot more hiding than dodging now.

You spend time training Psychic first using rocks and a few props. Raistlin easily masters the move with very little practice. You figure that makes sense, since they learn it in the wild and he’s already good at Confusion.

Next is Focus Blast. Jeanine offers to help with this one too. She puts on her aura gloves and smiles in confidence. “Check this out!” She pushes her hands together, gathers a tiny, clear, nearly invisible but still noticeable ball of energy. She throws it at a rock, cracking a tiny amount on the surface.

She jumps up and down. “See that? Booyah! Inner peace, baby!”

She doesn’t look all that peaceful or enlightened at the moment, but you’re still impressed.

Raistlin does his best to copy it. He gathers a much larger, impressive ball of energy after some practice and tosses it at a boulder. He misses wildly and nearly hits Dratini. You wave an apology to Robin and try again. He has the raw power down, but the accuracy isn’t the best. Still, if he lands this move in combat you’re sure it’ll do massive damage.

Satisfied with that, you split your time with Special Attack, learning Psych Up, and Dazzling Gleam. Both moves are a far way off from being ready, but you have the foundations down.

It’s getting late and everyone’s becoming pretty worn.

You spend time hunting down Sneasel as day turns into twilight. With each of your Pokemon, you really wear him out. You even join in the chasing, splashing in the mud and getting filthy. Why not? He’s moving really slow now, panting and hiding whenever he can. Nibbles chases him over a hill, biting at his behind. His eyes light up in fear when he sees Vlad swoop in. Raistlin fires another Focus Blast, completely destroying a chunk of ground and kicking a huge amount of dust into the air.

Somehow Sneasel manages to slip away in the cloud. You have to search for him for awhile, getting farther and farther away from your friends.

Finally, you track him down, huddling in the mouth of one of the mining caves.

He looks up at you. This time he doesn’t have disdain or panic in his eyes. Just a resigned, weary glance. He gives up.

“Alright, I think you’ve had enough,” You crouch down beside him after putting your Pokemon away. He was looking a bit distracted, waiting for them to pounce. “Congratulations, you survived.”

He flops onto the ground, exhausted.

You consider what to say to him next. Maybe you should just bring him back for now.

Suddenly you hear a truck backing up, directly next to the cave. You dash behind a large rock with Sneasel. It’s probably nothing to worry about, but you have your instincts.

The truck stops and idles right outside of the cave entrance. You see two people get out and walk inside the cave. Team Imperium members!

They haven’t noticed you. “You know, I was worried about the change in leadership, but this isn’t so bad.”

“Right? I like it. We’re actually doing stuff now. Before we were always just waiting around. Sure, we got paid, but now we’re really making bank. Strange as it is, I like putting on the uniform now. People are starting to respect us again.”

They go deeper into the cave, passed you. Before you can move, they come back with a crate on a dolly. “So this is the last trip, right?”

“That’s it,” the other confirms. “Remember, we gotta clean everything up after.”

The first one smirks and holds a Pokeball. “Screw that. Let’s just cave in the entrance.

They start loading another crate. You can see what’s in them, but they look heavy. Sneasel has thankfully taken your lead and keeps himself glued behind the rock with you.

If you try to sneak out of the cave, you have a much higher chance of being spotted, but you’ll be out in the open. You could try sneaking farther in the cave much easier, but it sounds risky to let yourself get trapped. If you stay where you are you’re confident they won’t find you, but there’s a risk that the collapsing cave entrance will come down on you.

Then there’s the other option. Fighting. You see two members loading, and two more in the truck. You may be a strong trainer these days, but that’s still not the best odds.

>Sneak out the entrance, you can’t get stuck in here
>Sneak further into the cave, you’ll figure a way out after they leave

You and Sneasel exchange a look and nod. Time to slip out.

Deftly, quietly, you both make your way to the entrance. The light of the truck is both a help and hindrance, lighting your way.

“Stop!”

Your heart falls into your stomach. You freeze.

“What?” Another voice says

“Look at the box, you idiot! It’s going to tip over. Put it on the dolly right!”

You and Sneasel exhale and keep moving. Getting surprised down here and then having that close call feels like some cliche written in a terrible movie. But you know if they catch you it will feel pretty damn real.

You and Sneasel make it the rest of the way out without being seen. You quickly turn the corner of the cave entrance, out of view of the truck and anyone who’d come out of the cave. The night air cools your sweating skin.

Looks like they’re finishing up.

You throw Vlad’s Pokeball. The flash of light reflects off the ground and small muddy puddles, even this far around the corner. “Go! Get the others! Hurry!” you whisper. He flaps into the night at top speed.

You glance over the rocks. One of the members must have seen the light. He’s heading this way.

Looks like you have to mix plans. You reach for your Pokeballs. You need to figure out how you’ll strike.

>Send everybody to attack how they want! You can’t direct them all, but you trust them to be safe
>Try to disable the truck first, make sure they can’t get away easily
