Last time work has been done to build up our forces and to improve upon the Rock of Ages. For we know enemies lurk and will soon march upon us...but when we do not know for certain.

One enemy we do need to watch out for was once the loyalist one among us and besides that there are the now restless dead. While at the same time we cannot forget old enemies or other monsters who don't bother with appearing entirely human.

Deals have been struck with nearby dwarfs and the Holy Host who came to our lands to deal with the undead.

Hopefully it will all be enough in the end.

Action 1 – (Super Boon)

The Commander sprinted to the church.

It happened a while ago. They had been going about their work when they suddenly stopped to listened.

Listened to the music.

It sounded like a funeral hymn, a mass for the dead, but not one of loss or sadness, no, this was not the death of a dearly beloved. This the celebration music you heard when a great enemy had died, the end of a terrible evil, but most of all, the song of lost souls in purgatory finding respite. A song you would hear on the day of saints as you prayed for your departed to find tranquility and escape purgatory. A holy tune, a divine reprimand for the wicked living sinners, but granting the dead rest and comfort for the tormented. In the rock all denizens felt the sensation of hope, hearing the death knell of foe overcome and departed dead laid rest.

It was all of these things and one, the death knell of an enemy condemned, the song of the deceased finding rest, and the hope for all those who lived in the rock.

It seemed to drown out all other noises, the factories, the construction, the noise and the cacophony. All they heard was the music.

But when the majestic tune was over, and they looked outside, all saw the great pillars of smoke rising over the church.

Did a conflagration rage on in the church and the organmeister call the alarm? But why such a majestic, a glorious piece and not a true alarm?

For this, the Commander and the guards ran towards the Cathedral.

They burst through the great doors into the sanctuary expecting to see a fiery dragon, instead they found the church organ meister, a priest of the Holy Host, a magi bearing the mark of the Holy, and a dwarven alchemist and runesmith. . The Commander and his gathering stood in ineffable, but not at the people

Their attention were directed upon the gargantuan labyrinthine of glimmering steel pipes, glistening Mahogany wood, and marble angels bearing trumpets of gold and silver

Someone made upgrades to the Cathedral organ, as each had the distinct memory of it not being a hundred times the size it was before, and it especially did not jut into the ceiling and presumably out the roof

“What is the meaning of this?” stammered the Commander

“Welcome commander. You're here to witness the test run.”

“Test run?”

The magi placed a finger upon his temple and shut his eyes. “I'm receiving word from the host now. Barrage has hit its mark and saturated the battlefield. Target burning, good effect on target.”

“Good!” said the Organ Mesiter “very good!”

“What's very good? Gottfried.” asked the Commander.

Gottfried Mozach was the Organ Meister and head musician of the Cathedral in the Rock. A lithe man with light blonde hair, even when he was still actively serving in his unit of Clerics he had always seemed to be listening to something else or looking far off. When the Rock was built, and subsequently filled with all manner of buildings, as yet empty, Gottfriend knew that it was time for him to retire from active military service and serve the Commander in a different way. He lead choirs, memorized and played hymns during church service. The Rock’s first spiritual leader, and he lead with his music. For his inauguration as Organ Meister he had even composed a Funeral Mass to honor those lost to the Barbarian Horde.

But none of it compared to the piece they had all heard outside

“Come with me Commander, we have something to show you.” the Organ Mesiter motioned for them to follow, all of them and spoke to other workers around them. “Prepare yourselves for the next test salvo”

The gathering followed the as they opened a metal door behind the organ, taking them to the bowels of the beast below

---

Steam hissed from pipes, gears and cogs lumbered in motion as they descended down the stairs into below. They saw conveyors and chains lifting and moving rows and rows of strange shaped items pointed and round, rockets to the few who knew them but not like any they had ever seen. All of them moving into the pipes that jutted to the ceiling, presumably to the Organ above them.

“Gentlemen, welcome to the new Organ of the Rock.”

“Organ of Rock?”

“Yes. You see, for a while I had been having nightmares. Nightmares about purgatory, about the restless tormented souls and the dead who could not rest, tossing and turning and writhing in agony. They could not rest for great tumultations awoke them, tremendous blasts, noisy rackets, clanking and cogging machines, and a horrible clamor like the sound of carnage and chaos. A noise so grating and shrieking to the ear.

It kept me awake too. I couldn't sleep for weeks, tossing and turning too much to find respite. No potions, none of the magi, or anything else I did could help me get rest. Even the Prophet of Fate couldn't figure out what was wrong, but he did say my dream was “disturbing”. He couldn't find a way to end the nightmare either, he spoke a long time about strange things like 'neurology' and 'providential premonitions', I didn't understand, and then he just said“only the gods can answer your nightmare.”

So in desperation I prayed and prayed for some relief, trying to find a way to end the nightmare, hoping I would find an answer.

And then, as I dreamt the nightmare again, I prayed in my sleep. And you know what happened? A miracle! I saw a light, and heard a voice. The voice did not speak, the voice sang. It was like a choir of angels singing far away. Growing louder and louder, approaching fast like a wave.
Their choir drowned out the clamor, the explosions, the noise until all I could hear was that glorious song that calmed my fears. And the dead! Those who sought rest, found rest, sleeping under the hymn of the holy light, while those undead , who helped clamor and would not rest, where burned away in holy fire, the reprimand of the angels. The dead found rest even under the wrath of the holy against the wicked who resisted.

And the land burned under the music and the light, the dead who sought rest were buried and found what they were looking for, and all was cleansed. I felt amazing, I felt hopeful.

And when I awoke, I realized I had slept so well, the music was so fresh and clear in my head. I took some papers and began to write, write down all the music of the angels I had heard. It was strange, it was almost like I could see the notes as I heard them. I was frustrated though, even as I wrote I was frustrated, I just couldn't get the tunes down right.

That was when I realized something, that there were patterns in my music, and that they looked a lot like the runes I had seen the runesmiths and magi make. So I brought it to them, hoping maybe I could use my musical skills and their help to fix it.

It worked. They told me that my music wasn't only trying to create one or two runes, but several runes interlinked together. There were patterns inside the patterns. Words of power, to muffle harsh noises, protect against magic, project sound, runes they put on graves to help the dead find rest, to be and many others.

They thought it impossible so many inexplicable patterns could fit onto one page and “connect and synchronize so well.” But I hadn't “written them like a runesmith” So they helped me fix them, they aligned them right and rewrote them.

And I saw that as they did, the music started to make more and more sense. A good musician is able to translate the music on paper to music in his mind, and I saw that as they rewrote the runes that “naturally led to alignment” the music became clearer.Slowly the music shifted closer and closer to the voice I had heard in my dream. When all the work was finished I was amazed...and I wasn’t alone. The Magi said the very paper the notes were written on ‘glowed’ with holy energy, the Runesmiths sat back and grumbled into their bear-beards about how all these humans around them kept getting visions for masterful runework, and the apprentice musicians I allowed to see it fainted.

The Organ Meister showed them the peace. It looked like a kaleidoscope yet strangely. . .organized, patterned, with a seemingly hidden purpose and power woven into them.

“I had it copied down immediately and have several copies in safe storage, but even without that I knew the song by heart now that I could see it. And one day at mass I played it. The Requiem is not one specific piece but several actually, containing different segments, the Introitus or introduction, Kyrie Eleison “Gods have Mercy”, Gradual, Tract, the Sequence or the Dies Irae “the day of Wrath”. But throughout all of them, I heard a resounding theme:

Death.

Death, and the rest of the Requiem. Death, and the mercies and blessings of the gods on the departed. Death, and rest of those who dead who slept even as fire rained from the sky and the day of wrath to burn away the wicked.

It was the greatest moment of my life to play that mass. And I wasn't the only one inspired. The Architect, the Dwarves, the Magi, all heard my music and the music many of them had helped to craft runes and weave magic into. And they too were inspired. Some of them inspired to build this Organ.”

The commander listened. “Okay. But that doesn't explain the Organ, or why it needs to be so big. Or the. . .barrage and targets?”

“Let me be frank, Commander. We converted the Organ of our Church into a rocket artillery building”

“You. . .converted the church organ into a rocket artillery building?”

“Not me specifically, I merely gave the music and the runesmiths help me perfect it. But it was the Architect and the Dwarves who designed the organ. I leave them to explain.”

This time the Architect spoke up. He pointed toward the organ all around them.

“When I heard the music played by the Organ meister on his normal instrument, suddenly we all felt inspiration strike us. Calling to us from that divine music itself. Speaking to us of awesome righteousness and power. And for some bizzare reason, several of us at once imagined this: rockets.

We all got together and worked on what we saw from listening to the music. The Dwarven Mechanics, Machinists, the Demostructor and his lot designed the War Machine and the artillery and loading, they handled that. I and the Engineers handled building the thing, making it strong and sturdy and fitting it around the cathedral and underground. Demostructor and alchemists dealt with the rocket projectiles, figuring out how to link in our Logic Engines to automatically calculate propellant-load for a given rocket, and much else aside. The Organ Meister helped with the pipes, making sure they were in tune and they would project sound correctly. We all pitched in where we fit best.

“Each of the hundreds of pipes that form the Organ is in fact, a rocket launching tube. It is loaded via conveyor belt directly to protected ammunition storage’s below. The firing mechanism is connected to a specific key on the organ keyboard in the sanctuary above, which in turn is hooked up to a Logic Machine to calculate trajectory and maneuver the organ pipes into place. When the coordinates are locked and the pipes in place, the Organ meister then plays his tune, and the rockets pour forth from the Organ and head towards their intended target and saturate the field with fire and explosions.

But the secret is in the shells.”

He led them on as they continued in the tour.

They were led to a room where several magi, rune-smiths, and wise-men were analyzing one of the shells. Picking up one of the shells, he showed it to them. The rocket fins looked like Angel's wings, the tip made of a silvery substance pointed to an edge, with sloped holes in its sides, the whole of it covered in runes, written words of prayer, and singing angels stamped upon them.

“Each shell is aerodynamically designed by our war designers and the Organ Meister in such a way that as it flies through the air, the air moves through the holes and groves and creates a distinct and clear tune as it whistles through the air, which we tested by blowing wind at them to simulate the noise.

The rune-smiths placed several specific runes upon each shell. I'll let our dwarf runemaker elaborate.”

The Dwarf Runesmith held up a shell, marked in intricate and interlacing designs, imitating the musical piece they had seen.

“On the fins, shaped like angels wings, are inscribed the rune of Hermes, the Caduces, to give the rocket speed and longevity in travel. The twin snakes of the Caduces has the added effect of causing the rocket to spin in mid flight, boosting its ability to project sound and its accuracy.

On the base of the body itself, the rune of enhanced strength, . It doesn't make the rocket lighter, as gravity runes are. . .difficult. Instead, it allows us to use more lightweight materials but made to be stronger, the main body being composed of a mythril silver alloy.

The propellant charge and ammunition within is marked with the sig runes, like lightning bolts, signifying power and victory and giving the propulsion and explosions that extra charge.

Most importantly is the rune of immutable sound. The “Dominatus Tonos”. It looks like expanding waves, as sound works like water waves. It not only projects the magical sound, but also muffles any others by instrument or clamor or explosion, no matter how loud. It is even designed to muffle attempts distort it with magic noise like the song of sirens or banshees.

It drowns out all other clamor, normal loud noises like explosions, machines and factories, or the and ruckus battle meld into the symphony or are drowned out, and any attempts to rouse the undead via magic or manipulate the music by distorting it, inserting their own, or singing along with it to subtly change the tune will fail. [it's plot armor protected from sabotage and backfiring on us]

In addition to this, the Organ Pipes has also been marked with harmony runes to project their own sound in tandem with the rockets. Ah, as well, there is the underground.”

The Architect stepped back in at this point, to explain.

“As you know, sound does not travel well underground or through earth.

But, the Rock of Ages itself IS a giant rune, beneath it the ‘star from whence power flows.’ I have made some minor...tweaks to the structure of the rock, nothing that could really even be noticed by less than an expert eye, and certainly nothing that would weaken it. As a consequence,The Organ taps into the Rock itself to conduct and project the sound to the rune and into the earth below. So that the dead that lie below, might hear the music of death.”

“Thar's another beneficial effect to visible artillery, boss.” this time a veteran officer spoke, his face was covered in stubble and he was missing his right ear.

“Been fighting for a while boss, and you know as well as I do, when the boys 'ear our stuff flying over their ‘eads and landin’ on the enemy, it feels good yeah? Like, makes you know you got support and just think of what the other boys on the otherside are getting 'ammered.” the officer didn’t seem to realize that he’d began rubbing the side of his head that lacked an ear.

“But this music is diffr'ent. It's like. . .like ye'z knowed the enemy made a BIG mistake and tha 'wrath o' the gods was smashing into them, tellen em ta die. Like it was their funeral.”

(IRL the Katyusha Rockets had a good effect on soviet troops as it was distinct enough for them to recognize it was theirs, and hearing it hit the germans made them very eager to charge)

This time the Dwarven Demostructor spoke up “Let us not forget the payload.”

This time it was the Dwarven Demostructor's chance to speak, and the stout dwarf spoke.

“Aye designed the payloads of de rockets me'self. She fires 300Mm wide, 42kg, armor penetrating, high explosive rockets. The casings are lined with pure silver behind a stainless steel alloy designed to fragment on impact, while de tips are shaped adamantine with blessed mercury tips. Fin stabilizer angel wings inscribed with runes and prayer seals to decrease overall weight, increase flight speed and distance, and prayer-scripts imploring the gods to take an active hand in guiding the shells, make the rounds nigh-impossible to intercept by magic.

They can be set to fire via proximity, timed, or impact, capable of burying themselves in the ground and exploding like bunker busters to harm targets deep underground or bursting above the heads of enemies or in the sky against air targets.

I must say the bunker busting effect is my favorite, just how good it is at armor penetration and detonating inside enemy tunnels or buildings and burning everything inside.

The ammunition is a special mix of custom 'wildfire', various alchemical products, although primarily thermite, magnesium, and white phosphorous, which has of course been blessed. Fired en masse it has the ability to light entire swathes of lands and every inch of ground on fire, causing a bright burning glow that can blind enemies in day or night. The flames burn so hot it melts wood, stone, steel, and of course, flesh, which runs like tallow. Forests and foliage disappear like waxpaper in a furnace, stone runs red hot, and metal melts as if in a forge and catches aflame, yes, steel plate combusts and catches on fire, thanks to the chemical properties of the incendiary. As the flames burn they even resemble funeral pyres and funeral candles, further reminding the undead, who aren't burned to ash, that the dead need to lie dead.

The blessings for all this are compliments of the Holy Host. They have a lot of excess holy materials and blessings, we have the supplies and place to stay they need. Plus, I promised to help them design stuff for a while.

They where quite keen on the idea of long range artillery and bringing blessed weaponry upon the undead at extreme ranges as well as, quote, 'Rain holy fire down from the heavens'.”

The Commander nodded his head every now and then, trying to keep up with what the Demostructor was saying but clearly as confused as he often was.

“Perhaps a demonstration is in order.”

The Commander followed again the architect away from the design room to a testing site a LOT farther away, behind thick walls and thick sheets of metal, to a small observation. There were several pools of water behind glass, dummy's wearing plate armor, stone walls, and other targets.

“Several design features are in place, so as to ensure saftey and efficiency in one go. Look to the test subject up ahead”

All of them looked into the glass window from the observation room to see a man dressed in thick clothes glossed with something, as well as a mask on his face. In his arms he held a long pol with a small amount of powder in a cup at the end.

He lit a match onto the cup. . .and nothing happened. A magi walked in and cast a bolt of fire, and nothing occurred either.

“As you can see, normal fire nor magical is not enough to ignite the powder. They will only be activated by a very special specific activation sequence only activatable via the Organ. I could fire off a rocket into one of our storehouses or the ammunition creation rooms and it would not cause more trouble than what the initial blast might cause and whatever else is combustible besides the powder

It is still fire of course, and ignites wood, buildings, and other such things to burn with normal flames, but the holy flames from the rocket themselves are still a distinct white resembling a funeral pyre. This ensures the safety of our ammunition warehouses, which for for redundancy are kept at specific maximum sizes and separated.

For demonstration purposes, a burning draft of the substance has been prepared”

The assistant returned again, and this time came back with a white hot flame that was very bright to look at directly, holding it with the long metal.

He placed it underwater. . .and it burned. He burried it in sand and pulled it out. . .and it burned. He capped it in a glass jar. . .and it still burned!

“The substance burns underwater, under earth, under mud, you may deprive it of air and it burns still. It is only extinguishable via Holy Gas or Holy Water, which we have prepared in large extinguisher tanks and gas systems throughout the Rock already (we spent 100$ on that a long time ago)

The assistant came by with a tank of Holy Gas, spraying it over the flames and extinguishing it.

In another test, another draft of the flames were put on the ground. This time, several Magi arrived. One of them blew a gust of wind at the flames, causing it to burn bright and hot. . .but it did not move! Another moved sand, dirt, and debris in the air flinging it around, but the flames remained still.

“We have assured that no enemy will attempt to try to use the flames against us via magical means, neither magic wind, nor sandstorm, nor waterstorm, nor any other thing by those who practice the arts. Attempts to catapult them back will simply cause the flames to recognize and burn that much hotter so as to melt whatever they try to fling back at us. It even has the ability to burn portal and teleportation attempts.

The Rockets are designed in such a way as they will also not be immovable or changeable in their course, neither by magic, or physical attempt. And the runic Proximity charges ensure that they do not and cannot detonate in proximity to our friendly forces or fuel storage-”

“Sir!”

One of the Magi spoke to the Commander, interuppting the architect

“Come to the front sir. . .it's the undead. They're at the gates!”

Indeed, the undead were at the great gate of the Rock, several of them in fact. Most of them were yawning (strange for something that doesn't need to breathe) some of them nodding their heads. Others were just dead, corpses next to them.

The commander walked up to face them, and spoke. “What brings the undead here to the gates of the rock?”

“Why did you stop”

“Pardon?”

“Why did you stop. . .” the undead yawned again “that beautiful music. . .I was sleeping again for once. . .” the undead looked at the commander with weary, tired glowing pits that had once been eyes. He realized behind all that rage, that hate, that anger, where just some undead wanting to be dead.

“It's one of our latest projects. Did we offend you?”

“So much battle. . .everywhere. . .the holy host, your explosions, your damn racket. . .but then you played that music and I was sleeping again.

It was like. . .when you played it the battle noise mellowed out. Even became a part of it, but it was good, I could sleep to that. Felt like something big was above us and fighting, but that was okay because I could sleep and ignore it.

I slept for a long time, but then you stopped.”

The commander turned to the architect who was grinning, and the Holy Host priest who simply stood with his arms crossed, but didn't go into a rage out of wanting to see what would happen

“We built this thing so we had a way to fight our enemies while at the same time allowing you to rest, help you stay dead.”
>>
>>38610570
“That's. . .very thoughtful of you. Especially after causing all that racket”

“Oh that, that wasn't us.”

“It wasn't?”

“No, that was barbarians. They came with loud instruments and noise and lots of banging specifically to wake you up.”

The Undead clenched his fist “Then it seems we have another enemy to add to our list. But you still made the explosions.”

“Yes, for that I guess all I can say is I am sorry. But with what we have now, you will be able to sleep through even the loudest explosions and battles.”

The priest spoke up. “And why should we allow that, when all you deserve is to be purged.”

The undead turned to the priest with a hint of disdain in his eyes. “You bring this of the holy host here?”

Richard saw the tension building up, but before it could boil over he spoke again to try and [persuade] them.

“Wait. Tell me, priest, you are here to purge the undead yes?”

“Correct”

“The undead and the living dead yes?”

“Again, correct. We purge that which is dead but lives again in undeath.”

“Would you purge graveyards and tombs, or one of your own after he is given the rites and buried?”

“No. . .why would we? Unless they start walking from their graves, we have no reason to purge corpses. We purge the undead, not that which is already dead.”

“Then, wouldn't you agree if these undead, who want to remain dead and not living dead , were allowed to rest in death, they would be corpses, and therefore, not need to be purged? That is to say, if these undead were effectively 'killed' and remain dead?”

The priest pondered this. “. . .we do not purge the dead. We only purge the undead. If one of our own where to be killed and brought to life, it would be our duty to let him return to death.”

To this the undead spoke. “We do not want to be undead, we want to dead. To Rest.”

Richard chuckled. “Then I think we can come to agreement here.”

The negotiations were long and difficult, without Valeria there to intimidate the Holy Host it seemed they would just have their own way and purge regardless, but through Richard's persuasion, diplomacy was a success.

The Rock would use its power to help the dead stay dead, and the Holy Host would assist as well.

If ever something happened that the Organ or their sleep was interrupted the undead would recognize the Fort was in danger and rise to their assistance and would come and talk first to see what was wrong.

We would talk like reasonable people and work together to solve our issues, but they would only live long enough so that the Organ could be saved and they return to death and we would help them go back to sleep.

We even promised to create special rune encased coffins and tombs designed to keep out any and all sound or magic which could wake the undead and help them stay dead, as an added measure, a box of pure and black silence worthy of death.

But at the end of all this. . .richard paused again. “But tell me, undead, why should we agree to this. You get to sleep. The Holy Host returns you to death. But what about us, what do we get?”

“What do you want?”

“What do you have?”

“We have no need for material items in death. Even us who do want to stay dead more than anything else, if you living want, we have gold”

“How much gold?”

The Undead paused for a moment, considering. “We are very desperate for rest and very long lived, warguarde has given us many spoils. Before you played that music, we were desperate enough, and prepared, to hire an army of Magi to destroy you and live here indefinitely weaving spells to keep us asleep. If you promise to help keep us dead, you can have that gold. We won't need it when we're sleeping.”

Richard , the Commander, and everyone else in the room had a glimmer in their eyes at those words.

“Done”

At the end, as the Undead prepared to return to their tombs to seal the deal.

But after a while, a few of them returned, and asked us what was up.

“How do we know how effective your machine is?”

To that, the architect responded. “A demonstration is in order. Organ Meister! Demostructor!”

As if on cue, the Demostructor activated [Boom Bang] on an open field, while the Organ Meister played his tune. Everyone was expecting a HUGE blast from explosive and rockets to ring their ears, but somehow the incredible noise of explosives seemed to be drawn in, muffled, and added to the grand Requiem of Repose, as though it were part of the music itself. When the music died down, all turned to see the Undead next to them, lying still in death, no different than a corpse.

They were the first to be put in the new coffins and loaded back down to below.

Action 2

The Wizard had been staring for many hours, as though in deep deep though, staring atop the tallest to somewhere far away only his grey eyes and wizened mind could see. Few bothered him, a few did but got no response, it would seem the only one who had any clue what he was doing was the Prophet, who simply said "don't bother a man when he's talking to friends."

He had been like this the whole day.

Just before the sun set, he pulled out something from his tunic. A Harmonica.

"What are you doing?" asked the Commander

"Calling them"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pq1JrJHQlAc

His tune was strange and eerie, you heard it as if it were both very near yet also very far away, an echo across a deep mountain.

As if on cue there was a boom, and a man on a broom stood floating in the air before him. Dozens more booms followed and the sky was filed with men and woman flying through the air, the Commander turned around to see flames burst from the ground, vines sprout up from the earth, clouds of mist and lightning bolts, men and women in all manner of fashiong stepping out of them. Shadows moved through the air, animals and birds flying and shifting into people, others just appeared. They carried wands, they carried staffs, they carried instruments and pets.

Hundreds, thousands appearing all over the city in the blink of an eye.

The Commander turned to the Veteran Magi, confused

"You told us we'd be outnumbered, that each of us had to be an army in our own right. I'm sorry to say I disagree. An army OF our own, is much better."

"How did you call them?"

"I called some old friends of ours. They called some old friends of theirs. Their friends called friends. . .

"You soldiers and you knights think you're the only one itching for glory, that battle belongs to you and you alone. There's a battle coming. Everyone can feel it. A big combat between good and evil.

And these Wizards want in. All these are as loyal as they could ever be commander. This battle is going to be bigger than any of us could imagine."

The army of Magi stood before the Commander as he stood directly on the center of the Great Rune that was the Rock, magic flowing toward him. They all stood facing him, and all at once they bowed.

"We pledge our loyalty to you, Commander."

He looked at the mass of those before him, and took in the sight. His hand reached for his side arm and his sword high into the air, and accepted their pledge of loyalty [Turn]-ing them to his side.

Action 1
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=72eEBz2rGWU

Advacing, moving, charging, shifting.

With a steady hand and a clear goal the efforts of the fort would soon pay off. Each new successive tech alone being of use, each new tool or weapon playing a part in the grander whole.

Bores drilled into rifles, cannons were forged and smelted, engines built, and the war machine and industry of the rock drove on.

Machines, men, and magic working as one, much to the Synergy shaman's delight and the Prophets as well.

From a clear goal comes unity.

From unity comes strength.

From strength power.

>Continue the development of the tech actions we were working on last time

Action 2

Scout our nearby surroundings above and create passive overwatches both above and below ground. The enemy is coming to face us, we should know our terrain as much as we know ourselves.

Set up patrols and watches, send scouts to explore areas we haven't seen before or touched conservatively (using bait to check for any nasties). Have the Magi and Clerics develop scrying crystals we can use to watch over places, and the logic machine develop a way for us to regularly shift through them with watchful eyes.

The more eyes we give ourselves, the better to see the enemy with.

May the All seeing Eye of the Rock guide us.

War Action 1
We do not doubt the loyalty of our men, but even a loyal man can prove as effective enemy if his actions are spied on.

We shall need to rework our system of hierarchy and orders to make it less effective to spying. We have logic machines capable of creating an enigma code. The Prophet of Fate and Magi who have telepathic abilities. We can create code names, organize tiers of information and need to know basises

Ensure that we secure ourselves from prying eyes.

I sorta studied up on it when it came to how realistic were guns in a historic fantasy settings.

Turns out they were there including cannons early on they just sucked ass and with good armor(like fullplate and even then it still took awhile to be outdated by it) you'll be just fine.

Its why canons and shitty guns are a thing!

also why for quite awhile guns, bows, and crossbows were seen side by side on the battlefield.

Its just most forces relied on the two former unless it was for something rather specialized.

Action 1
In the central hall of the Keep, the ruling council convened. Virtually everyone was represented. Especially those of the Research and Design deparment from the laboratories and workshops.

"Gentlemen."

Stated the Commander.

"It has come to my attention that current developments of firearms are both making progress yet not making progress. From what I gather, we are trying to fly before we have learned to crawl.

Now, we have various laboratories, workshops, factories, and wisemen and more. I would like an explanation of the situation."

The commander looked around, and then the Dwarven Mechanic explained, his beard furrowing around his mouth as he spoke.

"Aye Cohmander. Lemme Explain. De Prophet has many interesting idears and concepts ta learn, we been trying ta gather them all into something great. But per'aps we get a 'ead of oursulvs sometimes.

We're working on de latest design as we spek. But de latest isn't exactly near campletion yet.

Now we got several designs laid down bafore that. Including Breech Loaders, Needle Rifles for the riflings. We also came up with designs for several smoothbores, that's barrels without rifling, as well. Flintlocks, wheel locks, and the most basic 're the matchlock."

"Thank you Mechanic. Now gentlemen, we have plenty of designs, plenty of minds, and plenty of resources. What we do not have is plenty of time, and we cannot afford delays.

I want something that we can mass produce, and quickly, to our levvies and soldiers and we can train them with. You're the collective head of our research and development. Synergy Shamans you work with the dwarves manning the Logic Machines and calculate which rifle will be best suited for our needs quickly, preferably something we can make [in a few turns]

Holy troops obviously require holy places of worship and learning along with the blessing of the required deities.

Magicians require specialized facilities and places of learning.

Be aware that its gonna take awhile especially for the mages.

That is assuming you have the pop who are capable of it in the first place.

Remind them that we have Clockwork and Clockwork facilities. I would imagine a Wheel Lock musket should be within our mass production capabilities thereof.

Action 2. Spend a thread survival Boon
An Army of Levvies is NO good if the undead are simply going to convert over them and use our numbers against us.

Have Richard persuade the Holy Host to send some people to assist the Architect in [Designing] efficient holy places. I'm sure he'll enjoy building more of the grand and gothique as much as he did the Rock of Ages and Organ of the Rock.

The Holy Host too should be interested in creating holy places to find refuge and respite, under the music of the Requiem, places that they can use at leisure.
>"And on this Rock I shall build my Church"

War Action - Spend a Normal Boon
Encyrption shall continue.

The secrets of the rock are carved not in stone but in mind and numbers in those who shall remember them as though they were carved in stone.

Scattered pieces of a puzzle we and we alone are capable of knowing. Unbreakable codes by logic machines calculating over and over.

The defenses of the mind shall be sealed as tight as the defenses of the Rock

Oh and one more thing.

Don't forget the bullets
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RVDyoCWz0vM

Action 2
Richard, [Identify] what the conflict between the Rock and the Holy is. We need to find out our problem so we can solve it.

We have plenty of churches, holy water and gas running in pipes, we built the blessed Organ of the Rock for gods sake!

Have the clerics and others assist you as well. If you can, [persuade] the holy host to help us resolve the differences. Surely we are willing to show ourselves as faithful.

War Action 1
One flaw, gentlemen, one flaw in the system is all the enemy needs to pry open a breech.

A hic up is NOT acceptable when you are trying to mold something. And a chain is only as strong as its weakest link. Go back and iron over that hiccup and double check to make sure there aren't any gaps before making anymore progress, we can't afford holes in our encryption. Go over those logic machine catalogs, remake some of the codes, yes we'll need to be thorough.

Double check for mistakes.

Discovered that the conflict in question doesn't relay to the Rock itself...whether tis with the gods for whom we forsook.

As far as they are concerned we want them only for their holy power.

That and obviously no offerings.

Holy Host simply suggests making offerings to a god and try to NOT be so outright in your want for holy might.

They tend to view you a lot better for that.

Action 1

From our normal boon stockpile, combine 3 normal boons into a Major Boon for action 1

Next on our list and before we can even get started on the tanks, is the mass production of steel.

Before we can work on the mass production of steel we must also deal with the mass production of iron to make steel.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ECBqTXt57YU&spfreload=1

For this, we will need to make a Blast Furnace.

The process is, in essence, an automated and upsized version of normal iron making processes.

Iron Ore is mixed with Limestone is poured into a large furnace. Also thrown into the mix is Coke Fuel, which we can easily obtain from our advanced fuel generation buildings
>Emergency Furnace. Fuel Purifier. Fuel Production Facility+

This follows the standard method of iron production even in small scale blacksmiths, the limestone acting as flux to purify the Iron Ore and the coke acting as the fuel source for heat.

The difference is in the scale and design of the furnace. Instead of a mere pot of stone, it is a large almost building sized structure, where a large mass of the materials can be poured from the top.

The additional difference is the ventilation process. Instead of a blacksmith and his apprentice having to heave on a large bellow up and down, it is connected to our [Water Mill] or [Steam Engine] power for full atuomation of the "blasts" of air. The air is also preheated, as hot air helps the process better than cool air.

The last part follows the same principle as the small scale furnace. Iron pours out from the bottom and slag is separated and pours out elswhere, where it can be used for other purposes.

Luckily irl these things where already in existence even before the birth of christ, so this shouldn't be a relatively new process for a medieval age society

The upshot of this is we will also be able to not only have a steady flow of molten iron but also Copper for Brass and Lead for bullets and other items.

He and his wife actually go WAY back. As in they were childhood friends. So in a manner of speaking he does.

Nor is she technically the ex because both are still married actually.

Commander knew something happened to them and the kids so he worked to lead trouble away allowing them to flee.

Last he heard a few remaining theirs took them in.

Val and his wife got along GREAT by the way they ended up becoming fast friends during their schooling days.

In more favorable news, we can also implement FIRESTONE into the blast furnace AND have several Magi trained specifically in blowing hot air and manipulating the molten steel the blast furnaces vastly increasing its heating potential. Runes can also be inscribed in the furnace used to generate heat and allow for a more even mix by stimulating the iron with movement.

Next comes the steel making part.

From the Blast Furnaces we will have a hot stream of molten iron, now we must turn this iron into steel.

For that, we will use the Bessemer process.

The hot metal and more steel scrap is now poured into a large clay/brick pot insulated with steel, and capable of being rotated. More hot air with a higher mix of Oxygen (gathered from our alchemical labs) is fueled through the bottom of the pot, with the combination of a lining of open clay or dolomite inside the pot (pending if the iron is acidic or alkalne), the impurities in the pig iron are converted into their oxides and burns away out the top, leaving behind slag and molten steel which can be poured out of the pot.

Via these two methods, we should be able to get a steady and continous flow of cheap, mass produced, steel!

The Architect and Dwarves will help with [Designing] the dimensions and architecture for the furnaces, while the Alchemists will help deal with the chemical needs. While the Logic Machines will allow for precise and accurate control. Runesmiths will make the additional runic inscriptions inside the forge.

NOTE: SPEND 5 CURRENCY FOR FANTASTIC MATERIALS
TLDR:
Build blast Furnaces using Fantastic Materials powered by our SteamEngine/Watermill with Firestone and Magi blowing hot air and Alchemist adding oxygen, and runes to help mix the material, as well as pots for the Bessemer Process in manufacturing Iron into Steel.

Logic Machines will help calculate any needed mathematics and automation.

DON'T FORGET TO USE 3 NORMAL BOONS INTO A MAJOR BOON FOR ACTION 1

---

Action 2
Today we give homage to the gods.

Not as greedy money loaners asking for power or glory.

But as a people in danger as we prostrate ourselves before them.

We are perched on the edge of oblivion, with hell itself at our gate, and we must beseech the Gods of mercy. Not for power, nor glory, but for our salvation.

We ask only that we be shown the way against the darkness that is to come, that the Gods above shine their light upon us, and aid us in hallowing ourselves before them. Deliver us from evil, that our bodies will not fall prey to the undead menace.

To this, we give our humble offerings and prayers.

>Give Offerings to the gods

War Action 3
As the Holy Host stated, the worst place to face off against the undead is the underground. But they have also stated that to the defender goes the advantage. To this end, we shall train ourselves to use the tunnels and defenses beneath the rock, to be as proficient fighting there as we fight on the walls

As above and so below

Levies and Dwarves and Soldiers will maneuver the defensive lines and rings below, memorizing the ways by heart, drilling themselves. Wizards and Clerics too, practicig their magic, using the runes enscribed to their advantage, working with soldiers to provide support in the form of communications, holy magic, deep below.

Train them how to act when cut off or lost, to work as a team, how to use the underground to our advantage.
>>

The Super Soldier, and his kind lived and fought underground more than any of us. Let his training be an example to all of us!

And even the roots underground can be of service to those of our magi inclined to druidism, Ashley and Ted can practice creating vines to block or stop or entangle the enemy.

The Prophet and telephatic magi should participate in the war games as well, they can see what others cannot see, and see from above what is below.

Each flower dose not consume that much necrotic energy, not dose it produce that much life energy. It's about the same level of a normal plant using co2 to make o2.
Each flower takes about 3 turns to grow and starts dropping petals immediately, at a rate of one or two a turn. They can drop around 20 before the flower dies. The petals are how the flower spreads each petal making a new flower
>>
Rolled 10 (1d100)

>>38638140
It would require a super boon to make work the way you want it to.

Necrotic energy is extremely polluting...and what you want for to make spew life magic would mean it would have to feed off THAT type which is downright suicidal.

Or you could let the genie do its thing...may not work in the way you want though.
>>
>>38638208
Then we use a super. But that means it is the most incredible dam flower in the world. The stems of the dead flowers are made of gold and can be harvested for gold. The spread fast and the petals don't age. They can be planted 1000 years from now and still work. And anything else that can be thrown in. Use the super boon.
>>
Rolled 74 (1d100)

>>38638208
Basically nectrotic energy is a fusion of two types that led to an unholy mixture that is known as necrotic.

Its components alone are pretty fucking nasty...but together is how you end up with necrotic.

Necrotic energy is toxic as fuck to both the LIVING and DEAD! It does not judge and its polluting as shit.

Its believed to be a very foul type of magic.

All living things naturally produce life energy.

and no it wont do that per a say....its just that stuff is something even they have reason to fear.

If you want that though I suggest pissing off an old one.
>>
>>38638542
Consider who we might make angry with life energy, or if we boost the monsters

>>38638488
Okay, so with proper fulffing would it be possible for the flowers to
1. Multiply in a reasonable amount of time
2. Drain Necro Energy in such a way as to weaken or in numbers kill an undead, which would synergize with the rock also helping the undead go to "sleep" (die)

>Kind of like if we put a flower on them in their coffin, or flowers on a grave, as though they where buried ni a proper funeral, helps them stay dead by removing necro energy that keeps them undead

3. Do something to make that Necro Energy non poullting or otherwise neutralize/remove it from existence, get rid of it somehow, and overall reducing the amount of necro energy

4. [MOST IMPORTANT] NOT call cthulu or super evil elder tier shit down on us because its forbidden redacted stuff

All civs are capable of being fun or cool. The spacemen were adventure going and exciting, the bloodsnows were hilarious and awesome, and the cultists were us doing evil as natural as can be.

All civs can be cool in their own way and have awesome.

But not all civs can be BIG.

Not all civs can field the Marcus Special, BOOMTOWNS, giant massive machines as tall as skyscrapes, and self replicating super tanks.

Not all civs have literal legions at their command, an assortment of strange and wonderous technologies.

Not all civs have the power to influence their region and fight armies with armies, to do their Market Garden or their Rock of Ages.

We longed for the power to influence that we lost in Memor, always being tiny or the little guy, a handful of survivors instead of hundreds of thousands. Sure the consecutive civs were fun, but they were never on the same level of magnitude.

No I wont claim that mercs were most useful.

its just this anon a lot of this stuff...is all your fault.

>>38640203
You sped things up and enjoyed the override affect.

>>38640204
You had a fuckton of toime.

hm...oh crap that reminds me.

BONUS

News!

Word has been sent from the laketowns that mercs are being hired in mass for an outing towards your area...this includes a rather infamous merc known as Alzin the Abominable and Metri Disi, along with another unknown.

They are giving you a heads up thanks to your dealing with the barbarians.

NEWS
Dwarves from the North warn you that an undead army has marched through the mountains and is on its way to you.

>You had a fuckton of toime.
Yeah, and we're not finished with the first thing on our list. Those tanks are supposed to be basic, but they're chewing up turn after turn. Don't even have the metal yet to produce them.

So much to do

Oh, also when do the Ranger Trainers and 2 Badass Trainers arrive?
>>
Rolled 75 (1d100)

>>38640453
This or next turn.

You had an expensive and rare request so it was gonna take awhile they'll be here though.
>>
>>38640505
Can we get an estimate on how many turns the enemy army is arrivng, so we know whether to drop the tech and focus on defenses or if we can continue with the tech?
>>
Rolled 8 (1d100)

>>38640558
Estimates are 1-3 turns.
>>
>>38640604
That is way too close. . .

but. . .this DOES give me a fun idea.

Do our advisors/Holy Host/Dwarves have any qualms or advice about whether or not we should start firing at them from afar with the Organ of the Rock?

>>38640604
Also Genie, technically we spent 3 normal boons on the last action but it took a crit one to the face, did we lose those for good as well as the fatepoint?
>>
>>38640699
>>38640604
Or the chances of them moving underground with the knowledge that we have artillery?
>>
Rolled 88 (1d100)

>>38640699
Yes.

Don't worry too much the boons actually helped out.

>>38640699
They are REALLY far out.

>>38640746
From what we heard for some reason these armies aren't going underground real heavily they are just marching up top on the surface.
>>
Rolled 40 (1d100)

>>38640774
Doesn't mean you can't try though just remember others might not appreciate the noise.
>>
>>38640774
We did design the Organ to have VERY long range, to provide arty support to the Holy Host when they needed it.

How long until they get within firing range?

Talk to the Armor "do you have any thoughts on this matter?"
>>
>>38640821
But you remember what the music does right? that was very very important
>>
Rolled 56 (1d100)

>>38640824
At most a turn for 'accurate' shots could try to go farther but accuracy is not guaranteed.

>>38640848
Yes I do its basically a sleepy hymn of holy death.
>>
>>38640867
Sleepy to the Undead, Inspiring to our troops, and Terror to our living foes.

>>38640867
>but accuracy is not guaranteed.
Heh Genie, that is the purpose of Saturation Incendiary Artillery no?

Throw enough of anything at someone and make it light up the whole ground on fire, aiming becomes arbitrary
>>
Rolled 89 (1d100)

>>38640943
You are aware that such weapons don't discriminate very well do you?
>>
>>38640997
Yeah, I know, theres a chance we burn something we dindt want to burn.

But holy music does inspire different effects in different people at least though yes? Was part of the fluff
>>
Rolled 41 (1d100)

>>38641107
A mere chance?

Yes it does its what I meant with the holy part.
>>
>>38641518
Okay, hopefully thread lasts long enough for me to post actions

Does anyone have any advise they'd like to give us?

How about the armor, what does it suggest?
>>
>>38641605
Prepare for battle.

or run.

Is what armor suggests.
>>
>>38641721
If I follow the armors advice word for word and write

"Prepare for battle as our next action"

will you give us a bonus for following wise advise?
>>
>>38641764
>>38641721
I'm serious, the armors advice has been helpful before, especially when we follow it word for word.

Will it give a bonus?
>>
Hopefully I finish up that plan tommorow
>>
Rolled 90 (1d100)

>>38642013
Well its sorta hard to fuck up so yeah.

Not ALL the actions have to be complicated anon.

Longer more complicated plans just makes it easier for shit to go wrong.
>>
>>38642469
Okay then. I'll take your word for it.
>>
Rolled 97 (1d100)

>>38642494
Look at it this way saying prepare they'll prepare in general but if you give specifics then they'll concentrate on those specifics.

So its more along the lines of prioritizing.
>>
>>38643225
Well we don't know what to prioritize and that sounds like we'd be missing out other importan things.

It just sounds like we should just be more general and rounded in our preparation actions
>>
>>38643225
Hey Genie, you still here?
