You are a lizard born again as a lizard. And you're watching a air of large ravens circle in opposite directions around your older brother who stands bleeding over the form of your younger brother.

You really don't have time for long-winded narration right now.

>Fuck birds <Charge>
>Break on through to the other side, support your brother

With the birds circling to attack your brother from both sides slipping in between them is fairly simple. You make a mad dash forward and are almost inside the circle the birds have drawn before they notice you. One raven steps in to try and peck you away from your brother but besides a smarting finger you press through and line up with your brother to watch his back. You shake the injured paw, that really stings but it won't slow you down for now.

"Now we are both stucks," your brother comments.

"No, now they can not pick us off one by ones," you disagree, "It is smart."

"Does this brilliant plan have another step?"

You take stock of your resources. There are no good sized rocks or sticks nearby. The nearest shelter from birds this size is a hollowed out tree log you saw about fifty feet away. You have one hale and hearty lizard in yourself, if you ignore the stinging finger and your smarting nose, one older brother who is slightly bigger than you but is already bleeding into one eye and has a couple other nips around his ribs. Below you is your middle brother who isn't doing much of anything but bleeding if the slowly forming puddle is anything to go by.

>A warm puddle, flesh getting cold, a horrible devil bird stomping off to attack some other innocent creature.

Oh yeah, bleeding out sucks.

>Two birds, two lizards. Easy math.

"You should take him and run," you say bobbing your head at you unconscious brother.

"The birds will eat you alive," he argues, "I'll fight, you run."

"You're injured."

"I'm older."

"By like ten seconds, besides," you whip your tail in the direction of the two dead birds lying on the forest floor, "Unless those are both yours AND you have other things hidden somewhere else I'm pretty sure I've got a higher number of things killed for today than you."

"So you're tired."

This is becoming annoying. "Little brother needs you more than I do so you can fight me, or you can take him and run. These are your options," you tell him, "If you're fast getting him to auntie you can come back."

Your brother looks torn but finally bobs his head and shifts to pick up your brother.

"We'll have to be fast," he says.

"Right," you agree, "So go on three."

You count off the time and then your brother has your other sibling in his arms and is moving. The birds cut off their muted cawing and take this as their signal, with his hands full they expect to only have to fight you.

Well, they aren't wrong.

The birds rush in simultaneously and you push off the ground moving backwards, the raven in front of you plunging its beak into the ground as your tail whips around to smack the face of the raven behind you. The strike leaves a thing line of blood on the bird, not bad for a rushed attack. Then the bird in front of you is on you again. Diving between his legs and rising quickly you upset the bird onto the ground. The tail whipped bird turns to go after your brother but is cut off when you run up and leap off the back of his friend to tackle him. Birds are large but surprisingly lightweight. He goes down in a tumble with you.

Out of the corner of your eye you see your brother retreat, or rather you see the dirt and forest detritus he kicks up in his path. You're not sure you could keep up with that WITHOUT an armful of lizard. The ravens appear to agree, or maybe you've just pissed them off. You hope you've pissed them off. It's not right that only one person be mad.

Rolling off the bird, you're gonna call him Whipped, you scramble away as his friend dives at you. Your clear and another tail swipe snaps across the tip of his beak and gives you some breathing room for a moment as the two birds reorient themselves.

You run up a tree and do a flip onto one of the birds, sinking your claws in among the feathers until you feel flesh, before quickly disengaging and rushing the other raven.

The second bird rises to meet you, apparently less put off by your throwing into the dirt and bouncing on it than you'd hoped. It pecks at you and for a moment you think you got clear until you feel a burning line on your side. You lizard roll and dive in to trip it or bite its ankles and it just raises its foot and then drops it on you. That's bad

The ground goes out from underneath your feet, and stays gone, oh damn the bird is picking you up. At least the bird below isn't moving quickly yet, maybe you nicked something painful

Teeth, claws, you're caught but you're not unarmed, with it claws around your middle you can easily just bend up and bite him.

Ow, pain. Your side lights on fire as you begin to bend and you reflexively bend back to alleviate it. You try whipping your tail up to foul the fowl's flight but can't seem to get a good angle. The raven flies in a tight arc around the small clear area before halting, its talons unfolding to let you fly into a tree at top speed.

Your tail whips left and your body coils causing you to turn in midair. You saw a cat do this several times when one of the fingery ones was messing with it. You land with all four feet on the tree, your side is on fire and your jammed finger isn't happy. Still you crane your neck up to look at the raven.

Suck it.

The raven that dropped you manages to gawk at your landing as it swoops past the tree, it'll circle around in a moment. You consider trying to divebomb it, then you notice the bird you hit earlier still on the ground flapping weakly, you may have cut something important in the wings earlier, good to remember. For now though a vague memory from when you were an iguana is screaming at you. ANd it's screaming at you to BOUNCE. (Iguana Points 4/5)

Though you're not clear what a bounce is you know a helpless target when you see it. You peel off the tree tail first spinning in the air as you steer yourself toward the ground, landing on top of the raven. Something in it snaps when you land but you don't give it much thought. Your jaws close around the back of the ravens neck and you squeeze harder than you can ever remember doing before. You're rewarded by a meaty crack and the panicking bird going limp.

Flapping noises reach your ears and you pitch left, rolling the now dead bird on top of you just before his friend smashes into it. You still get some of the press from the hit but nothing appears to break. The raven flaps off again disappearing into the murk of the evening forest. You can hear it moving around barely, it stops periodically before moving again and again.

With the bird out of sight and hard to track you carefully sidle away from the growing mass bird grave your family has made and start shuffling towards some rocks you saw on your way over. Once or twice you think you catch sight of the bird, but it's clearly still hanging around.

At the rock you find that instead of a series of rocks it's one large slab adjoining a couple other that are way too large for you to move. Everything else is pebbles and you rake your claws through the minimal gravel as your ears remain focused on listening for oncoming birds. You feel you can be forgiven for missing the other noises given our focus and that your eyes were thoroughly distracted by the half translucent orange and red rock you pull free from the earth. It is shiny damn it. You're sure the bear that steps out of the forest agrees.

You back a few steps as the furry beast steps out of thicker brush. in retrospect you really should have noticed something this large approaching. You're considering a full on flight up the nearest tree when the bushes behind you explode in a blur of green and brown. The blur colliding with the bear and rolling away.

You're quite grateful to be back to just fighting one stupid bird. Speaking of the devil a black shape appears sihlouetted on the forest canopy growing larger as it swoops down on you and your colorful pointy rock.

But you can bludgeon with it more than once.

>>38589849
You throw a rock at it. The shiny bit of rock spins in the air and thumps off the birds chest. Then the bird thumps into your chest and you're knocked onto your back with bird feet digging into your chest. This is not going well. YOu struggle with the bird, weaving your head back and forth as it continually shifts its weight onto you and tries to peck your eyes out.

Somewhere off in the bush you can hear something hissing accompanied by angry bear noises. Further off you hear the faint sound of reinforcement.

Struggling under the bird is largely fruitless. You are forced to reveal a secret technique discovered ten seconds ago while you were rolling in the dirt. You swing at the raven's beak with your left fist, missing handily and nearly rolling onto one side, then you roll the other way swinging with the right. The bird's head pitches back to avoid your fist again but this time you fingers open, releasing the handful of dirt you scooped up into the raven's beady black eyes.

With a surprised caw the raven steps off you and you immediately wriggle to freedom quickly taking your feet. The bird shakes off the dirt quickly and the pair of you rush each other again, trying to catch the other off guard. The bird openes its wings to bat you with them and your hands slap in around its shoulders, claws digging into the flesh beneath them. You see the birds head cock back a touch to peck and open your mouth and hiss, reminding the stupid skyrat that your mouth is also dangerous.

Seconds pass as you remain locked in a stalemate with the raven. It lacks the mass and leg strength to unseat you and you lack the strength to force the bird into a better position either.

In the bushes the roars and hissing cut off with a strangled noise and a squelch. Then a lizard foot comes stomping out of the brush. Auntie looks none the worse for wear for having wrangled with a bear. She takes a look at the raven you're entangled with and snorts derisively before punting it with a clawed foot. You fall over on your belly as the raven flies into the tree and commences dying from the fancy new set of holes it earned. Then your older brother runs in hissing like a mad lizard at nothing in particular.

Your brother looks relieved to see you alright, auntie is harder to read as she's busy looking around. You make a minor show getting up on your own power.

"I had him."

"Of course you did, little one."

"Where's the other one?" your brother asks, looking at the raven.

You wave off in the direction you cam from. "Somewhere over there, it's dead. Has anyone seen my rock?"

The other look at you oddly. "Rock?"

Ignoring them you carefully don't hobble over to where you thought you saw it go. As you walk you can still feel that burning in your side but you don't look at it lest auntie notice. "It was orange and shiny."

Auntie rolls her eyes and goes off into the bush where the bear was and you hear her making noises that sound like she's cleaning it. Your brother helps you find your rock where it landed between some tree roots. Now that you have a moment to look at it the knife is vaguely knife shaped but in a decorative way, with a hole through the "hilt" end. The orange red color strikes through it in a random pattern that makes determining a single dominant color hard. It feels warm in your fingers. You're actually feeling kinda cold in general, and the sun is nearly down, you're unlikely to get a good bask in.

Your brother is apparently trying to figure out the path your fight as he backtracks from where the bird was laying on you. He makes curious sniffing noises as he goes then stops and stares at you.

"How are you doing that?"

It takes you a moment to figure out what he's talking about. You're glowing, just a little, in the spots where your scales are thinner and along the little cuts on your fingers, even your blood looks the slightly wrong color as it has a faint gold discoloration. You panic for a moment and the color shifts to a darker red shade.

"Ah, that's back," Auntie says, as she returns dragging the bear behind her. "Can you make it stop little one?"

You look over your body at the glow. You have no idea...

You try to get a feel for the glow. Try to suppress it. Pouring your mind into it and trying to control it. Anything you can think of. For a moment you think you get a grip on something and the color waivers but then it's gone and you aren't sure what you did to make it happen in the first place. You're less cold though, that may be something.

Still if you recall from the last time you died, and you do, viscerally, feeling cold after being injured is a bad thing. Maybe that cut on your side is worse than you thought? You can't really see it that well since it goes across your shoulder onto your side then curves away out of sight.

"Hey, auntie," you say making your way over to her.

"Hm?" she looks up from her tying the bear together for easier transport.

"I can't see, how bad is this?" you turn your side to her for the first time and her eyes widen.

"Oh dear," she says, dropping her bear and stepping closer to you, "Can you feel this?" she touches the top of the cut on your shoulder and you nod. Then she touches just above the base of your hip. "And here?" You nod again. "You have cuts everything between these two places. Now holds still." She waves your brother over and after licking your side forces him to hold your side while she digs through her bag.

"Why did you lick me?"

"Saliva is good for a wound, ours especially. Combineds with medicine," she scoops some white powder into her clawtips and dabs it on the spots she licked, it stings worse than a rooster trying to pull your organs out. "most non-lethal things can be at least treated. Though you will needs a proper healer, like your brother. Are you feeling faint? Cold?"

"I am cold," you confirm for her, and she picks you up and puts on the bear. Bear corpses are surprisingly warm. Then she picks the bear, and you, up to carry back.

Below you see your brother scurrying around, frequently shooting you worried looks. He's started gathering the ravens. You have no idea how he's going to drag 4 birds that size but auntie just reaches down and grabs them for him. Then it's off to the beach.

You're still glowing faintly and the sun is probably mostly set. You shift colors sometimes but you're not sure why. Everytime you think about it you turn a dim bright green.

As your bear saddle bobs with the steps of your aunt the faint stinging in your side reminds you of the other lizard you saw recently with extra holes in him.

"Is my brother okay?" you ask.

"The second brother?" auntie confirms, "His wounds were not so large but with a number of them and time to bleed they become serious. He is very close to the edge but if he can be given blood medicine he may be fine."

"Where do you get the medicine?"

"Healers will have it. It is dangerous to sell so they keep it to themselves. I believe... yes there is a healer in this area, we will have to seek them out." She looks over her shoulder at you. "Neither you nor he will be alright to travel til those wounds close and your vital essences restored."

You nod, and consider your rock to take your mind off it. Then you realize you've no idea what's with the rock and give it to auntie to look at.

"The shape is strange," she says, holding it up to the light, "But it is just a very poor fire stone. It can be used to warm things but not too hot. Maybe to make a fire. I do not know magic, little one. Though I do knows valuables. The shape of that may mean something. At worst you can hang it on a string. It is a very nice bauble."

"Do healers know magic?'

"Not as much. We relies on the medicines we make. The swamp and sea provides ample herbs and spices, and they're not so hard to find for most things."

"Will eating magic ravens make me sick?"

"Did you find a magic raven?" she asks, amused.

You point at your brother, who has assembled a litter similar to what your youngest sister used earlier today. The ravens placed upon it.

"Those do not seem magic. Just large and ornery, little one."

"They have four wings," you point out.

"What number should they have?"
[1/2]
>>
>>38593479
[2/2]
That trips you up a little. Your brain says many birds have four wings, slaved to each other so locking one set makes moving the others hard and painful. But some part of you still thinks the number is wrong. You let the subject drop.

"How did I do then?"

"hm?"

"Against the birds."

"They're very big birds, to be sure. And their type is wily. You should be proud they didn't eat you."

You puff yourself up a bit at that.

Before long the beach comes into sight. There is a fire burning on it with a makeshift rack over it. Pieces of the animals scattered at varying heights over the flame. You don't see your siblings until you get close and your youngest brother pokes his head out of the sand, shortly followed by the youngest sister, who after a moment reaches over and pulls your last sister out of the sand. She does not bother to wake up. Your last brother is shortly unearthed as well, havingbeen covered with a cloth before being buried. He is breathing but is covered in a yellowish caked on material. Probably medicine.

Auntie spends some time stripping the bear of its flesh and setting it up to cook, pouring dust over the remaining meat she will not cook and rubbing it in. The meat rapidly shrivels and shrinks and a smoke with no fire billows off it as she works. Auntie explains that it is not good to leave food you won't eat, so there are ways to make meat last longer. This powder is bad to eat but when rubbed on raw meat it dries it out and cooks it while flavoring it. Apparently there is a type of rude mushroom that can be used to make the powder.

The sun is set and gone. The fire is warm though.

You still glow very very faintly but it is hard to see unless you go to the edge of the firelight and look very closely. You may be imagining it.

The fire is very warm. You pull a stick with your seagull on it off the fire and prepare for some proper food eating and basking. Though you could use some dinner distraction.

"Auntie."

"Yes, little one?" auntie replies without looking up from where she's scrubbing bear meat with drying powder.

"You were going to tell us about the circlating lizards."

Auntie takes a second to figure out what you're talking about. "Ah, the lizards of the flow, I remember. It is a very important story."

You nod, and you see your siblings falling to attention, except both of your middle siblings, they remain unconscious for their respective reasons. Your younger sister tries to rouse them but aunties waves her off. "Leave them be, I will tells them later. Your brother needs his sleep, and your sister... I will have a healer look at her."

You're fairly sure she's just lazy. Shared looks with your siblings confirm they feel the same way.

"Hm... as for the lizards of the flow. Lizards of the flow are specifically lizards that live in the rivers of the world. When we mention though we usually mean the forest flows. To our north is a great forest in which many monsters lived once. Wendigo, harpy, moth, and the giant spider people and more.

"A long time ago, before all the lizards of the world seperateds to claim their places, the lizards of the flow were the first to leave. They moved to the rivers of the forest, and there they spread. They tooks in all the other creatures of the forest and together built a grand place. They promised that in exchange for their fealty the lizards would allow the others of the forest to lives as they chose within their chosen lands. Then with they created great wonders and a city that made even the humans jealous.

[1/3]
>>
>>38594644

"When those who had remained in the home waters asked the lizards of the forest how they had accomplished these feats they were told off. How dare those lizards of the home water who had not made so great a place as the forest city dare speak to the lizards of the city. And so the rest of the lizards of the home waters seperated themselves from the lizards of the forest's flow, and founds our own ways in all the important places of the world.

"Years passed and the city continued to draw the attention of many admirers, but with those admirers came those who desired to take the city from the lizards of the flow and their people's. As pressure mounted the lizards decided to break their covenant, and turned on their people, seeking to gain we know not what by overturning their promise. Whatever they sought the price was too high. For in breaking their word they angered the spiders of the forest, for they greatly values promises. And the spiders raised great powers and put the lizards of the flow down in droves. Yet still pride remained in those lizards' hearts, and with every opportunity they again brokes their promise and rose against the people of the forest again until they were less than even those primitive lizards of the home waters they had scorned. Reduced nearly to animals. And so they are to this day. Barely smart enough to remember that they losts something. Even now your mother is to the north, forcing them back as they try to expand beyond their ancient claims."

"What about the spiders?" your youngest sister's voice breaks the spell auntie wove with her question.

"Hm? The spiders? They survive, they retained whatever strength they gained and remain the most terrifying monster of the forest. It is wise that any lizard, flow or no, remember that the spiders are dangerous, and never to break a promise, less the spiders learn of it and hunt you down."

"What do they look like?" you ask, curiosity overwhelming you.

[2/3]
>>
>>38594672
"They are great large monsters," auntie tells you gesturing, "All knife legs and a hard shell. Their fronts though appear soft and friendly. This is a trick, for their hands, like their legs, are all knives, and in their mouths fangs and venom of various kinds that can poison the body or mind. They are terrifying creatures that know lizards only as things for them to lay ruin upon." Your aunt continues in a long hiss, most of her eyes caught in the shadow of the fire giving the impression a skull is speaking.

Your siblings all look fairly frightened. You can't say that you're entirely unaffected.

Spiders are interesting and you have pertinent questions like, "Have you ever seen a spider auntie?"

Auntie's eye widen and for a moment she looks offended before she recovers, "No. No I am an honest lizard and no spiders have come for me. They are not something you seek out, some lizards not withstanding."

"What about mom? She's north with those other lizards, is she going to see spiders?"

"She'd like to," auntie grumbles, "But no, your mother is also a good person. And she is not going so far north as to enter areas spiders are likely to go. That is for the foolish flow lizards. Also, little one, it is rude to ask if someone has met a spider. Very rude." Auntie answers while pulling a skewer of meat off the fire and starting to devour it.

You nod, mostly satisfied. You might ask her more but she seems grumpy, let her get food in her first.

The siblings have gathered in a small circle on one side of the fire and as you approach they appear to be comparing notes for the day. YOu join in, telling them about the things you did and how you got your prey.
Apparently your youngest sister made a bunch of traps and baited them. She's going to ask auntie to check them again before they leave but before she came back most of them had had the bait stolen anyway without getting caught. You silently hope that her traps fail, you don't know if you're allowed to count the bird Auntie kicked. When you boastfully tell you sister of the extra animals you kill instead of rising up to your boast she looks cowed. Maybe she's not as competitive as you were expecting. Or maybe you're the only competitive one. Hm.

Your youngest brother meekly adds that he mostly spent his time climbing trees. Nests are easy and once he found one he just waited for one of the parents to come back. He seems less excited compared to the rest of your sibling's described hunts but he gets excited when he tells about he and your sister helped auntie treat your middle brother.

[1/2]
>>
>>38595374

Your older brother explains that he spent most of the day chasing the younger. He tried to suggest strategies but your middle brother just wanted to chase things down, and with the amount of noise he made most things ran away before he got close. Then he pissed off the ravens by tackling one of them off a branch and things went poorly from there. Your older brother managed to get the attempted murder off of him but not before they got their pecks in.

You commend him for what he did manage to do and thank him for trying to come back to help. Judging by the amount of the white scabby stuff on his scales he was fairly well injured himself.

>>38595574
Fifteen seconds after you find mom and she processed that you're one of hers. She's been looking forward to naming you. Your dad and aunt fear she'd hurt them if they named you guys first. It's also not unheard of to put off naming the kids til you're sure they'll get to full size. That way you lose nothing for lizard babes that die on their way to full size. But that's by no means the standard at all

You spend some time chatting with your siblings, discussing the kind of stuff they want to do. You sister doesn't seem to have any ideas but she did enjoy making the traps and you encourage her to keep trying stuff out.

Your youngest brother agrees when you say he might look into healing, and surprises you when he says he'd have to bring middle sister along. Apparently she was a great help to auntie when she was awake and commented on liking a job that was mostly laying around waiting for some dumb idiot to hurt himself. You guess she'd be okay, if she's got a mind for it.

Older brother is like you undecided on a course but he definitely wants to get stronger, and you suggest maybe you can try hunting with him next time and avoid spending all afternoon chasing rabbits that left ten minutes before you got there. He thinks it's a good idea but first he says he's going to knock some sense into your last siblings head. Just as soon as he recovers. He sounds doubtful about the recovery bit so you tell him no one around here is dumb enough to go out and die on their first day. Not for lack of trying.

You notice your siblings getting sleepy and decide to bother auntie before you fall down yourself. her mood has improved and she only seems to get more amused as you tell her some ideas you had. In the end she agrees to help you though some ideas, like your crab armor, have to be modified or put off til later when you're done growing. In the end she starts helping you to put together a crab tower shield you'll grow to use as normal type shields for a short while, a large bird talon/crab pincer macuahuitl that you'll similarly be able to use as you get bigger until you get too big.

Most of your problems stem from your current growth rate. Anything you make to your size will be useless within a couple days. You do get a pretty crow skull headdress that, thanks to some strings, will turn into a cool pendant when you get bigger. You consider stringing your rock but it wouldn't fit yet.

Halfway into the project you begin nodding off and auntie decides it's time to shift off to somewhere safer. She douses the fire, gathers your sleeping siblings into her cloak and when she picks you up you curl into a ball around your fire stone. You tried a couple things to make it work but all you've really discovered about it is that it's warm, and on a chilly beach that's just about what you need as auntie ties you up into her cloak. Still not as good as the sun though...

>That's it for tonight guys! I'm going to go crash myself into some food and then.. something... plans will be made as I go
>Next thread will be likely Thursday unless something goes horribly wrong at my interview tomorrow and I get a job
>I'll be in and out checking for comments questions and whatevers.

Thanks for running! So how much of a growth spurt are we in for?
>>
>>38596154
You're currently about two feet long and five to twelve inches high depending on posture. Your average lizard person is around four foot tall standing. You've got some growing to do still.

I'll try and update the char sheet with stuff before next time

We level any skills up Lamb?

Indeed. I'll take care of those when I update the sheet in the next day or so
