Just as Kaori puts a hand on my shoulder.

I reach down and pick up my phone. "I'm still going to call her, just to make sure."

Too late, I've already bounded away toward the location of Fortune.

"Come on, pick up!"

I'm standing in Fortune's parking lot right now. Constantly hammering the little tile on my phone.
She's not picking up, and I really don't want to go inside Fortune right now. The front door is blown open, and dozens of pieces of office furniture are practically spilling out. Not to mention the occasional sound of metal-on-metal that the building seems to be belching out.

I look across the parking lot and-
There is Mom's car, parked across two spaces with the driver side door still open.

No, oh no.

I start to head toward the door.
That's when a steel chair comes flying through one of the windows on the third floor.

It crashes into the mess of garbage that continues to grow outside the entrance.

I suddenly realize that I probably need help, and that trying to do everything by myself will be my undoing.

Slowly, I pick up the phone and dial Kaori. I hope she can get here in time.

Barely five minutes later, Kaori skids to a halt next to me.
She's huffing and panting, but at least she came when I called her!

"Huff.... Huff.." She tries to regain her breath as the building continues to spit out debris and chaos.
Another desk crashes through a window on the outside, and then a chair out the window to the right of it, then ANOTHER chair out the window to the left of that-
Wait. Didn't something just crash through that window? But.. it was completely fixed just a moment ago.
And that window to the right? I- Am I seeing things? It's perfectly fine now.

"Masami..." Kaori uses my shoulder for support. "I'm glad you want to rush right in, but I think we need a plan here."

"There's no time for that!" I clench my teeth. "Mom is in there right now and I have no idea what is happening!"

"No! There is time for that! Don't you think Mom didn't tell us specifically because she didn't want us getting involved!?"
"But she should know better than that by now! If you're going to try to talk me out of it, then just stay out here and let me go in!"

"Of course not, I just want you to do this the smart way, Masami!"
"THEN WHAT IS THE SMART WAY!?"

"We split up. We can search more of the building that way."

She seems taken aback by my direct confrontation of her plan, but she gulps and turn back toward the building.
"Listen, Kaori, we're going in together. And I choose we go through the roof!"
"I think you're going into this too quick-"

"No! We've wasted enough time arguing! Through the roof, now!"

I bust through the rooftop entrance and dart down the hallway. I can feel Kaori right behind me.

"MOOOOM" I yell down the hallway, which doesn't seem to do anything but get the attention of a monster at the end.

One who is immediately blindsided by another monster.
This place is crazy right now.

I leap over them as they crash to the floor in a struggle. We make our way directly to Asai's office.

"HEY DAD!" I burst the door open. "YOU HAVE ANSWERS AND I WANT THEM NOW!"

Inside is...

The room is littered with fallen monsters. Asai stands among all of them, completely unwavering in his almost psychopathic smile.
He sees me standing in the doorway, and with a flick of his fingers, the monsters seemingly melt into the floor itself.

Creepy.

"Hmm? You seem scared."
"N-no I'm not!"

T-that was just surprising, that's all!

He kicks his chair and sits down in it. "Masami, Kaori, Here for something?"

"You know exactly why I'm here! A monster attacked school today and you're the only one who could have done it! Now Mom is gone and I can't find her anywhere!"

"In case you can't tell, Masami. All of us are having problems today. Though, I didn't realize Izumi had entered the building, that's news to me."

He's just so smug, I hate him so much.
"JUST TELL ME WHAT IS GOING ON!" I shout in frustration.

He stands up, "After the Chairman's little spill, the drones under his control are now vying for power. There's two ways to solve it, someone could get his signet and force them to be subserviant. Or we can have another great war."

"Another.."
Great.
