Holy cow, we've reached thread 5.
_________________

Your name is Alice Zief, the Armagus technician who doesn't know anything about their own past. This whole amnesia thing is starting to get really annoying.

Recently you're proved yourself a paragon of responsibility by being a referee for a brawl between the apprentice of a special forces team and a relatively ordinary boy, apart from his ability to shove his foot deep inside his own mouth which is quite exceptional. You'd like to think that the former will help discourage the latter in the future, and maybe he will start to think before he opens his mouth.

Of course, after that the apprentice's father figure, one Commander Terrence Irons of Irons Independent Military Contractors, came by. Thereafter you taught Ragna the value of an apology, while the Commander lectured Bullet on the importance of maybe not breaking people's bones to defend his company's honor.

Right now, you are settling in to enjoy some light conversation with the man while Ragna recovers enough to attempt the walk down to the lower levels of Kagutsuchi. The only question is what you want to talk to the Commander-

"Please, call Tager." Very well. What do you want to talk to Tager about?

>Why is Tager his callsign?
>What is 'Irons Independent Military Contractors'?
>What kind of Armagus is that?
>Something else?

Well, first things first as they like to say.

"Why Tager? That's a rather odd name."

He smiles and calls out a quick correction to Bullet's stance before answering you.

"Because that's the nature of a call-sign." You don''t quite follow. "It's meant to be a unique identifier, something that can be used other then your own name. For situations which require a certain amount of discretion, it's a convenience." He chuckles, crossing his arms over his chest. "Of course, the point is somewhat lost when you introduce yourself in person by your official name. For now, let's just say that I've always felt more comfortable being called 'Tager' then 'Terrence Irons'." For a brief instant, his eyes grow distant, seeing something not quite there.

And then he's back in the present like nothing ever happened.

You open your mouth to ask him about his company-

And are interrupted by rolling thunder on a hot breeze.

Tager and Bullet are already on the ground by the time you realized what had happened, and you've deployed a low level emergency shield to block shrapnel over yourself and Ragna. Screams tear through the bright blue sky while the scent of bitter smoke is carried to you on the wind. Grey plumes are already drifting upward, revealing the damage already done.

>What do you do?

Actually, yes!

For everyone who wasn't here when I explained it last time...

>Since enough time has passed IC that it's sub-systems could possibly be coming online, I thought about giving you guys the ability to make Observations via Alice and from there perform Interventions.

>Basically, if I don't specify something, you can ask about it. Depending on the depth of Observation, you could gain the ability to make an Intervention, which is basically using quantum bullshit to make a change to the environs. This could manifest as you dodging to right instead of the left, things that would otherwise be relatively improbable happening, or other things like that.

>To use Nasu's marble analogy, there are 10 marbles in the bag. One of them is red. You could perform an Intervention to ensure that you drew the red marble. It's within the realm of possibility, but a little unlikely.

>Alternatively, you could basically use them as Star Points to fight Natural 1's or other shitty rolls in the thread.

So, yeah. I kind of was waiting for a convenient opportunity to tie this into a tutorial, but if you guys want to start making use of it now, that's fine.

No pain. Shield integrity holding steady. You don't think you've been hit with anything. You fire off some diagnostic Ars to be sure, sweeping Tager and Bullet just to be on the safe side.

No injuries. The party is at full health.

Sirens start to whine in the distance, while announcements echo over the park's loudspeaker grid about evacuation and casting low level flares to signal emergencies requiring critical attention. They urge you not to panic, and attempt to reassure you that the situation is under control.

Before they finish that sentence, you've already upgraded the shield covering you and Ragna and started a seithr siphon to gather more power for your next move.

"There was more than one explosion." Tager flipped to his feet, producing a small PDA, fingers tapping away already. "At least four, perhaps as many as six." A frown, and then a few more taps. "Local communication towers, I'd wager. I can't get a signal." Slipping the device away, he tightened his bracers, pale spell patterns shifting under their metallic sheen. "Military grade explosives striking multiple points simultaneously, civilian comms eliminated..." A window full of static opened for a second, before folding itself back into nothing. "And the regular frequency is being jammed. Which makes this..." A smoking airship roars by overhead, exchanging gunfire with a handful of NOL drones. "A military operation." He slides his glasses back.

"Bullet. Our objective is to safely transport the civilians outside of the combat zone." His grey eyes meet your own, cool as stone while he cycles Ars on his gauntlets. "Miss Zief, while I recognize your individual right to refuse an order... Please allow me to escort you and your ward to a more secure location before objecting." He says it so politely, too.

>Shut up and go with it. It's the safe, sane, and reasonable option.
>There's explosions, airships fighting drones, and probably battle to be had. You aren't leaving.

Oh no, you're not yandere or anything. You're perfectly normal.

You just have destructive capability similar to an orbital ion cannon when you really get going.

Whether or not you indulge in overkill is completely up to you.

If we ever arrive at the point that "beat the Imperator up and take her giant combat satellite" comes an option, then we will have absolutely no need to actually take the fucking thing. We'd will outclass it by several magnitudes.

>>38508702
well i never suggested becoming a clone of her however having a weapon of that magnitude just float around seems like asking for trouble and we might be one of the rare few people who can keep it.

You hold up a hand. The faint chatter of gunfire and hissing whine of Ars in the background filters in. The soft scream of more airship engines flying in.

And the almost silent sobs of a terrified child.

Wordlessly, you and Tager move towards the sound of crying, picking your way between trees. Bullet moves in quick bursts, always waiting for Tager's signal before advancing. Ragna meanwhile moves a much slower pace, but it's steadier. And unusually silent too. Each step is measured, and he moves in a low crouch, constantly turning his head and paying attention to his surroundings.

You arrive in the next clearing.

Two people are lying down in the middle of the field. They wear neat suits and subtle armor, expensive and neatly tailored to their forms. Both are dead. A quick scan reveals the cause: tiny darts covered in neuro-toxin.

A sniper then.

You harden your barriers and cast some over Tager and Bullet. That kind of dart wouldn't get through your active defenses, but if you hadn't been prepared it wouldn't need to. A pre-emptive strike like this one tends to be effective because you aren't expecting it. You should be safe for now.

Tracking the subdued sobs a little more, you find your target.

The little girl's eyes widen as you approach, eyes red and tears streaking down her face. She sniffles, biting her lip while gathering courage.

"Wh-who-?" She struggles for words.

"Freeze!" A squad of black-cloaked soldiers burst through the treeline, guns already trained on you. "Step away from the kid, and we'll be on our way!" No insignia on their uniforms, no name tags either. But those guns look well used and these troopers look well disciplined.

"You asked for my name?" You step between them and the girl, plan already forming in your head.

It kind is. It's been restored to partial functionality, but it's nowhere near operational.

>>38508928

Sorry, but >>38508941 has the right of it. You can use Observe to learn about the environment and then perform an Intervention, but that kind of thing is beyond you. Your Interventions are more like probability manipulation, except you get to choose the one you want.

That aside, the Idea Engine is more of an Anti-Hax weapon. Against normal mooks, you're better off focusing on more traditional methods.

Like beam spam, or just beating them up.
>>
>>38508941
Why not? We didn't get updates on it's status for a couple of thread now, so the way I see it our Idea Engine is both broken and somewhat functioning. We can observe something related to it and with an intervention have it restored.

Can we observe the captain? Our bluff working? Can the solldiers themselves be considered environment and can we affect the probability of theit actions? Or is it only the not living things we can affect? Can we observe a falling train or something?
sorry for being a dumb
>>
>>38509079
no i don't think so the OP used nasu marble theory as an example.
say you have a bag with 10 marbles 9 Whites and 1 red we can then grab a marble out of the bag it most likely being a white one we can then observe this happening and change our actions redoing the grab for a possiblety to grab the red one that is basicly how it works atleast for as far as i understand it.
>>
>>38509106
Thanks for clarifying.
So basically we can only affect the direct result of our actions and not some random events, right?
>>
File: MOREPHYSICS.jpg (355 KB, 948x1408)
355 KB
355 KB JPG
>>38509106

This is pretty close, but no quite it.

You perform Observations by asking questions about the environment. Things like people, places, or things. Even analyzing effects works.

This establishes a sort quantum-lock that you can use to perform an Intervention, which basically works as you described it. You alter the result of an action to another possible one.

So you can't spontaneously make a guys gun explode or repair something that was already broken. But you can make his gun jam, or stop it from being broken in front of you.
>>
Also, I should clarify.

You're choosing what to introduce yourself to Tsubaki as.

This may or may not affect her for the rest of her life.

But it probably will.

"I'm Alice Zief. Ars Magus Technician." You give her one more reassuring smile.

Then you open up with the flash-bang. To their credit, the goon squad don't so much as flinch before opening fire. A hail of bullets strike your shields, and are washed away like rain. You consider closing the distance to see how well you'd do in a melee, but discard the possibility. That'd leave the girl undefended.

But these men are professionals.

They wouldn't just send one squad, but... Ah.

Tager has intercepted their flanking squad, you note as he wades into them. They crumple in seconds, most being tossed off their feet outright by a single strike.

Still, you can't have him do all the work.

Turning to face your own foes, you mark targets. Six men, wearing tactical armor. Full face masks, including goggles. Weapons are high quality, but standard armagus. They are, to a one, generic. One is trying to set up an Ars to break through your shield, though.

You won't let him get it off, of course.

Your eyes lock onto his.

And, for just a fraction of a second, he flinches. Then the force pulses hit, three on his chest, two on the armagus, warping it beyond usability while they throw him into a tree.

You don't bother with specific targeting on the rest, simply swarming them with pulses.

The resulting carnage at least looks pretty, even if you have to spend a few minutes making sure everyone stays down.

You pump a few more rounds to make sure anyway when one twitches.

Finally satisfied, you turn to face the girl again. Who is now staring at you with wide-eyed awe, which is certainly a look you could get used to. You smile and prod her for her name.

"Tsu... Tsu... Tsubaki!" She squeaks.

"Well, Tsutsutsubaki," You chuckle "Would you like me to take you home?" She looks shocked for a second, before her eyes flicker over to the corpses in the middle of the clearing while she chews her lip again, considering. There's a strange glint in them. Fear... and hope?

As she's busy thinking about whatever it is in her head, Tager walks over from the other side of the clearing.

"Hostiles are subdued for now." He adjusts his glasses with one hand, firing an emergency flare Ars with the other. "And you've certainly proved to be more capable then you seem at first glance." He chuckles, bemused at the destruction you've caused.

You weren't exactly discriminate with those shots, so while the trees are... mostly fine, the bushes aren't. And the grass isn't either. Or the foot path. Lots of the park will probably need landscaping done after this anyway, so it's not like it'll be a problem.

From his place in the branches, the last still conscious soldier moans.

"Hey, you up there?" Silently, the last mook's head rolls forward. "What's your name?" Nothing. "Rank?" Silence. "Allegiance?" No sounds but the breeze. "Sinister plans?" A bird chirps while he continues to stare down. A hand twitches for his belt-

You shoot him, knocking the snub-nosed pistol to the ground. You smile.

"This is the part where I inform you that with-holding information is a bad idea. Please, feel free to tell me anything." You state, more then happy to lay things out for him. "Or I start taking you apart, piece by piece."

"I'm going to leave it to you, Tager." You opt to leave it in the hands of someone who's probably much better at the whole thing then you are. You turn away just as he knocks the man out of the tree with a punch.

Your attention goes back to the little girl, who seems to have reached a decision.

Looking up at you, she gathers her courage, opens her mouth, and says something outrageous.

"Right. I'll do it." Tsubaki nods, planting tiny fists on her hips. "I'll run away with you." That... isn't what you asked at all. The girls nods again. "I've thought about running away before, but I was too scared to each time." Another look of serious resolve forms on her tiny face. "I had to think about it really hard after you asked me to go home with you, but it seems like you're a good person. Someone strong and wise."

Not that you don't appreciate the compliments, but what the hell. When did you-

'Would you like me to take you home?'

Oh. But that's not what you meant at all! Isn't the context perfectly clear that you meant to return her to her own house?

>OK, so now you're a kidnapper?
>Nope. You need to make sure she gets home to her parents.

This... This isn't what you had in mind at all.

You lay it out in plain terms. You didn't mean to take her to YOUR home, but to return her to her OWN.

And now she's crying again, embarrassment and barely suppressed fear coming to the forefront and mixing into a terrible and ugly sobbing, snot and tears oozing their way down her face.

Suddenly, you feel like a real bad guy.

So, you end up just holding her close while she ends up unloading on you in between choking on sobs.

Her dad doesn't really love her, her older brother died two years ago, her younger sister's twin died last year and the surviving twin this /month/, her Dad's remarried twice and neither of his wives were anything but mean to her, and whenever they meet for 'training' it is apparently incredibly painful, and she's been cooped up her whole life on their estate and after what happened today she doesn't think she'll ever be let out again-

This goes on for awhile.

You just hold her, stroking her back and let her cry it out, as the words fade into muffled heaves. Ragna briefly walks onto the scene, looks at whole mess, and wisely sits down and keeps his damn mouth shut.

Tager himself wanders over, his 'subject' bound in a variety of astoundingly tight looking knots and binds. He adjusts his glasses in a gesture you think has more to do with being a nervous tic then any actual readjustment, squinting at the girl.

"So, what will you do?" He asks, deliberately keeping his voice to a very quiet rumble.

the question is what kind?
>>
>>38512354

BlazBlue lore explanation; Tsubaki's family, the Izayoi clan, is one of the... nine or so? Twelve? I honestly can't remember the other families asides from the Kisaragi, because the others are never relevant, Great Families. The Izayoi in particular breed with a particularly incest-like fashion in an attempt to bolster their compatibility with magic weapons and Tsubaki is pretty much the only success in generations. The others would also have the compatibility, but frail bodies that left them unable to actually do anything.

What we'd be taking home would be the only living, healthy Izayoi that this incredibly powerful family would have produced in a very, very long time. This is the equivalent to jacking the only healthy mob daughter out of a mob family where every other family member in line for succession has supercancer, except approved by the government. On top of all of this, she's also a major pawn in most timelines and in the second game for Terumi's plans.

This is probably a pretty important decision that requires some more thought than that, I'd guessing.
>>
>>38512354
If I'm not mistaken Tsubaki was the only child to survive long enough to graduate from the academy, so it's not that suspicious if you consider the Yayoi's family history of inbreeding.
>>
>>38512417
Oh wait, we cant, because it'll totally suck ass due to the nature of how Armagus' work!

Oh wait, we won't need to do that either because there's not going to be any fucking reason for her to take up a weapon now that she won't care for Jin!
>>
>>38512456
1. we don't know that yet in thread one shaderic said that due to our choice we will be making our own tech tree so to speak so we could completly change the way armagus work.
2. we are now in what the game would call a continuum shift things have changed meta can go allmost completly out the window and we have no idea what the future holds instore for us.
>>
>>38512456

She probably still will. For all we know, they might've already met. And not sending her to a school would be grossly irresponsible if we do intend to be a parental figure.

As, you know, outside of our expertise we know absolutely nothing about anything.

>>38512561

TOO LATE! IT'S HAPPENING!

Tsubaki is an extremely vital piece in every timeline that isn't the one where they break the loop. Our interference may or may not have fucked everything up, or made everything better in advance. It depends entirely of how aware Terumi is of our involvement, and he'll know SOMETHING is wrong if Tsubaki just kind of disappears when that's never happened in any other timeline before.

Anyway, yes, This is a very heavy responsibility, but what other choice do we have? She's cuter than a Kaka, which makes us automatically lose any will checks against her and it''s not like we have a place for her to stay, so making her our own Ragna is the only option here.
That is unless the Mustsuki or Vermillion are willing to take her in, which is highly unlikely I guess.

>>

i'm not sure how well that is going to work out for him, Jin is so single minded that it would be rather hard to control him tsubaki was easy you just had to give her the good old for the imperetor song and dance and off she went dilegent as can be, Jin on the other hand is a different beast.
>>
>>38512864
>Mfw we were Alpha-01 all along.....
>>
>>38512921
Jin is controlled by his Nox throughout the first and a bit into the second game. Thereby easy to predict and falls into Terumi's plans. Jin is a HELL of a lot more powerful than Tsubaki to top this off, and single mindedly intent on murderizing the fuck out of Ragna.

Which is good for Terumi, bad for us.
>>

You mean the psychopath who will drop literally everything and anything he's currently doing if it means getting to stick a sword down Ragna's throat?

Do you really think Terumi would be willing to try and use him as his main pawn considering who Jin turns out to be? Because honestly, if it were that easy, I reckon he'd have done it in the first place.
>>
>>38512986
I didn't say he'd be a "'Main" pawn, I said he'd be a larger one.

If you didn't notice though, Terumi did throughout the firs and second games. Who do you think told Jin Ragna was in that particular city?
>>
>>38513006
yes but with out tsubaki he lost a lot of the maneuverablity he had a lot of stuff was done by her, yes Jin was there to keep Ragna busy.

but things are going to turn out to be a lot harder for him now because who is going to be strong enough to go toe to toe with all these big players while being his errand boy/girl?
>>
>>38513075
That's assuming we even get to CP. From the way it's shaping up Terumi's holding most of the cards to make the first two game's his bitch and win entirely.

We'll have to see though, there's a lot more choices to go through and we're not even at CT yet

This is a really complicated situation.

On the one hand, there is kidnapping. That is definitely illegal. And generally the kind of people who have special forces like these deployed to kidnap their children aren't the kind you want angry at you.

On the other, there is a crying child in your arms.

There worse ideas out there. You're sure of it. Statistically, there have to be. You don't have much (or any) money, no real house of your own, and you don't even have anything that resembles a past. Taking in and raising a kid is so far beyond you that and oh god she's looking up at you with those bright blue eyes and-

"This is such a bad idea..." You mutter to the man beside you, before refocusing your attention on the girl. "Little one. I don't have much to call my own in this world. But if you are really sure-" Before you finish she's started crying again, holding her small body as close to your own as she can as she starts sobbing again. You wrap your arms around her, drawing into a hug.

"... I'm keeping her then."

Tager just sighs, a faint grin tugging at his lips.

"Well then. I guess I'm just going to have to report that the kidnappers got away with the girl while we were engaging the distraction." He nods sagely. "Regretfully, we have no idea who the kidnappers are, nor any idea who their employer was. I guess it's a complete mystery. Bullet!" He casually calls her out from the woods. "Start gathering up the bodies. Remember to search them for weapons after tying them up. As for you Miss Zief, I'm afraid I'm going to have to ask you to leave. It seems that there are dangerous kidnappers about. I wouldn't want you to get hurt, so you should take your wards and head home." He gives you a brief salute, looking surprisingly smug and earnest at the same time.

You return it, before shrugging off your cloak and wrapping it around Tsubaki. A subtle Ars changes red hair to a more pink color while her eyes brighten to a familiar gold. That should do it to keep them from looking too close.

As you and Ragna sneak through the forest, you can't help but wonder what the future holds. In the short time you can remember, you've trained a boy who's teacher was a cat, teased Kaka kittens with a laser pointer into breaking walls, had a bath with a professor of physics, met a commander of a mercenary company, fought off a kidnapping attempt with him, only to kidnap(?) their target yourself.

It's been busy, strange, bizarre, and awfully exciting.

And, as Tsubaki tightens her grip from where she's riding piggy back while Ragna just shakes his head and mutters about girls being strange, you can't help but look forward to more.

Then you smack the boy upside the head and focus on sneaking through the NOL's perimeter.

>>
>>38513447
>Huh. Can you elaborate on this point a bit?
For an Ars Armagus to reach the level of a Nox it follows through with the downsides shown by Izayoi.
>>
>>38513528
yet our book is a armagus implied to be capable of being on equal lvl of the nox and doesn't seem to have any big side effects there has to be a reason for this.
>>
>>38513528
>>38513566

To be fair, that's just a side effect of being on par with a Nox. It's not like Nirvana or Yukianesa had these amazing effects on the mental health of their users. Can't imagine it'd be much different for the others, so that could just be par for the course for anything approaching that level of power.

And the users never notice, either.
>>
>>38513566
Our book is slower building in power, and even then after a long set up an a constant supply of seithr it can "equal" a Nox. Meanwhile a Nox can survive on less Seithr, and has no start up time.

>>38513616
It is a side-effect of being on par with a Nox. But if you're not on Par with a Nox best thing you're going to be hoping to beat in Blazblue is Bang or Carl.
>>
>>38513501

Alice's background is one of those things that I've been peppering in subtle clues about. If you want to post a guess, or try to put some ideas together, I'd be willing to laugh hard and drink in the speculation tell you outright how wrong you may or not be.

>>38513528

That makes sense. But then, you chose Grimoires as your specialty. In terms of how hax an artifact you can craft, you have an astonishingly wide and deep toy-box to play in.

Pic possibly related.
>>
>>38513718
Well, as Grimoires go, they seem to function on three principles.

Seithr Usage
Power
Burden on the wearer.

A Nox is lopsided towards Power, achieving smaller and more efficient Seithr usage and having a large dosage of insanity on the user*.

An Armagus, being an inferior model than a Nox already suffers on all three counts, as such they shouldn't in any case outperform a Nox without having ABSURD burdens on the wearer or absurd Seithr usage.

As such, our own Armagus likely has a large and constant Seithr drain.
Nox-tier power after absorbing lots of Seithr.
Little to no Burden on the wearer.
>>
>>38513718
Alright, then. I'm thinking that Relius and whatever of Terumi is currently around looked into the timeline next door, specifically canon, and saw that they still weren't quite making the cut around the end, so they decided to try to craft something like a more intelligent Phantom that could also function as a Boundary Interface Prime Field Device. Thoughts?

Speaking of SCIENCE, one could likely augment someone like Tager's enhancements to run on Seithr as well, causing him to be a blend of Ars and Machine. That'd likely bump him up to something along Izayoi's power if we implement the same Seithr usage we're using.

If we really want SCIENCE-SCIENCE though?
Ragna inside a giant Seithr chomping Mecha/Suit, utilizing his Azure's unlimited Seithr to power it. The more Seithr it receives the more powerful it gets, and therefore it will grow in power exponentially.

The only problem is Ragna falling to Black Beast syndrome.

Max pleb. Besides, if Kokonoe wanted to, she could've easily done that. I think the entire point of Tager was a proof of concept to see if you could approach Nox level with nothing but SCIENCE.
>>
>>38514239

Tager's kind of a side-step in my opinion.

He's a very competent mercenary that's been augmented via genetic engineering and cybernetics in canon.

But those weren't to give him super-powers or anything. They just kept him alive after getting his shit wrecked by the NOL and Azrael at the same time.

Of course, even after getting all that and adding in Kokonoe's toys, his brains been more then a little fried and he's in a completely unfamiliar body. In my personal opinion he became /weaker/. Or at least, he's less skilled in using his new body.

He's not the FULL POWER OF SCIENCE mobilized.

But he does benefit from being a test bed for a lot of Kokonoe's tech, which gives him a leg up.
