Arriving fairly early in the day after your pre-dawn workout routine you were invited by the Priestess of the Shrine, your Auntie Rei, to join the family and their guest for breakfast. Accepting the offer, you also volunteered to wake the girls. Aiha came to rather easily, but Rin proved resistant to the idea that a new day had come to exist. You resigned yourself to drastic methods to wake her.

Your tickling assault proved effective, and you eventually turned it against Aiha as well after the blue haired girl insinuated that the younger black haired priestess in training had suffered enough. After that, the two ganged up on your to deliver some justly deserved comeuppance. However, their retaliation was cut short by their own squeamishness.

As previously noted, you had just come here as part of a morning run to cap off your exercise routine. The two girls became acutely aware of this when they peeled back part of your athletic kit to get at your armpit for maximum tickle torture. Even if it was leg day, you also gave yourself a solid base of cardio. Someone once insinuated that girls don’t sweat, but instead glisten; your routine has long put that notion to bed as far as you were concerned.

Rin continues to make a childish face, wrinkling her nose in at this point feigned annoyance at the offensive part of your presence. Her efforts to tame her tangled mane of black hair with a soft bristle brush given up on, temporarily, as the three of you march onward to breakfast. The blue haired girl, Aiha, walks a few steps ahead of the two of you with her hands held at her front in quiet demure reflection about...something. She looks back at the two of you and then glances away quickly every so often, uncomfortable about something.

“We were quite worried about you,” Aiha says plainly as she returns her vision ahead on the long hall.

“Don’t have time to lose? Then why are you here before 7 in the morning,” Rin grouses. Evidently the girl is not a morning person.

“Rin-chan,” Aiha chides with some exasperation before speaking over her shoulder to you as she slows down, “I swear you are the surliest girl I’ve ever met before you finish waking up. Though she does raise a good point. Why are you here so early?”

~I wanted to ask Rin about something,~ you square your shoulders and drop your arms to your side as the three of you come to the open sliding door of the Shrine living quarters dining room, ~about her vision,~

Inside there are a few places and trays set. Its quite traditional, pillows on tatami floor and small bowls of rice, plantings of fish, and small bowls of miso. Five trays are set, five cushions laid out on the floor. The room is warm and inviting; the scruffy man you remember as Rin’s father finishes setting the tray.

Rin grabs your sleeve as Aiha pauses in the doorway, her curiosity piqued at the coming exchange.

“After breakfast,” the dark haired girl says quietly as a far door slides open to reveal Auntie Rei carrying a platter with a few bowls of pickled vegetables that she and her husband set on the trays.

Aiha seems concerned. Rin looks serious. Good, its going to be a serious talk.

It isn’t quite so quiet as Rin and Aiha begin talking about this and that with one another. Even though they seem to have gotten close, there is still some shyness to their interaction with one another. Having secrets and abilities tends to make one lonely, you know from experience. Still, there are some other things you are curious about.

~So, Kumada-san,~ you regard the older man sitting across from you as he drinks some of his soup, ~How are you enjoying being back with your family?~

He chuckles to himself as she sets down his bowl.

“I’m enjoying it very much,” he laughs.

“As am I, though my own departure is frustratingly ill timed,” your Auntie grouses to herself in a cadence you aren’t accustomed to hearing from her.

Kumada-san pats her own the back as she resumes eating her breakfast.

“Out of curiosity,” Aiha asks quietly, “Well, why weren’t you here for so long,”

The blue haired girl seems to have struck a nerve as the room goes momentarily quiet. The bearded man clears his throat and leans in toward the suddenly attentive group.

“I was out making sure the bad omens of a bad vision didn’t come to pass,” he smiles, “And now that things look clear, I’ve come home,”

~So, this is going to sound weird...but I had a run in with what I thought was a ghost before everything went to hell at the tower,~ no use in beating around the bush, you know Rin’s dad is in the know about the Senshi stuff...and he’s supposed to be a trained Shinto Priest, ~And I was wondering if I could pick your brain about how to find it again or deal with it,~

“We saw her in the hospital,” Rin says as a matter of fact, “Mom and I put a ward between the wall and your bed to keep it at bay. We didn’t think she was dangerous, but thought it good to keep her away from you while you recovered,”

“Another ghost,” he faux whines and scratches his beard, “And for once it was actually a ghost,”

“Said the psychic magical girl,” Rin counters with a giggle, “Yeah, I would be willing to help you find her. I’m still ahead enough on my school work to take today off fro-”

Her voice falls silent at the hard stare her mother is giving her. Her expression shifts to one of pleading, but it eventually falls to the unyielding glare of her mother.

“Actually, I won’t be able to help until after school lets out today,” Rin says with some amount of defeat.

“I can skip,” Aiha says confidently.

Your Auntie Rei reacts to the blue haired girl’s assertion with shock. She abandons her meal and crosses the room to inspect the girl with a suddenly frantic look in her eye.

“How can you be Ami’s daughter...unless,” she makes a few warding gestures as you, Rin, and her husband stare in abject confusion and awe...she sticks a paper charm on the psychic girl’s forehead, “Begone evil spirit!”

Nothing happens.

Rin is laughing hysterically, clutching her sides and rolling across the tatami floor in her sleeping robes.

Breakfast is finished soon after, and you wait in Rin’s room, idly flipping through a comic from her bookshelf while she tends to her morning routine of hygiene and dressing. Aiha, who got ready first, is busying herself with her phone and reading about ghosts and spectral phenomenon.

Rin exits the bathroom adjoining her room wearing her gray school uniform. Picking up her shoulder bag, she sits on her bed and regards you coolly.

“So,” she asks, “What about my vision?”

“Relax,” she explains, “You’re both psychic, so just relax and start thinking at me. I’ll take care of the rest,”

When you open them, the ruins of a city stretch before you.

Smouldering and red as a throng of lighting crashes around you and through you.Their terrible crash is broken by a roar. Sailor Jupiter, bleeding and proud, crushes the errant volts in her hand and unleashes her own volley and searing charge toward the sky. Ozone fills your nostrils as she snarls and a figure shrouded in black falls open palm against her power and catches the worn girl in the arm. The earth beneath her craters and sinks.

Golden blades of light lance from the other side as the small stature of Sailor Venus weaves and spins through them, returning fire in a hail of golden hearts, burning and reflecting the light beams. Gold cascades of her sundered but animated chain lance forward and shatter against the black and misty wrapped figure rushing against her. Like the thing that fights Jupiter, it has red eyes beneath the black enigma of its form.

All four are knocked back by a wall of water, chunks of ice left in the receding foam as Mercury staggers to her feet. Pillars of ice fall to the ground against her and she screams in primal fury. The columns begin shattering against the invisible but recognizable force of her enhanced psychic power, their remains rocketing up and perforating yet another dark figure with burning eyes who seemed to direct the attack against the girl.

Fire roars and breaks a tower in the distance to cinders from the top floor slowly down. Sailor Mars runs down the stairs, hurling paper charms against the walls as she passes. Lines of energy flow between them as she recites a prayer and throws herself over the railing of a stairwell to avoid the fast falling slag from above. It heralds another void in the vision, a figure commanding the onslaught of fire, but the charms survive the burn. Long enough until they erupt in blue flame at the dark figure’s approach.

Four Sailor Guardians stand amid a broken field. Familiar faces strewn about dead or dying amid the desolation. Fathers and friends. Teachers and acquaintances. Ahead of them, four of the black clad warriors they faced lay broken atop pillars of iron and stone. A fifth figure, wreathed in the irridescent shadow, descends from the sky. Nightmare wings extending from her back in twisting agonies.

The sky above is warped. Broken celestial bodies are visible in the twilight. Mercury, Mars, Venus, and Jupiter. The moon hangs full and whole amid this destruction.

She moves her hand, and the girls are flung back. Tired, beaten, injured, and losing hope.

There is light. Hope returns. They believe in her, even in their darkest hour when hope and love seem lost.

Sailor Moon steps forward in a white gown, wreathed in brilliant silver flame and the resolve of the sovereign. With bow in hand and tears in her eyes, she draws the heartstring tight.

“I love you,” and wings are born from her shoulders of pure white.

She falls. Your sister catches her. The other girls clamor over the ruin to the others who fell, grasp the still void clad figures and cry out.

Your sister’s white wings...they are stained red.

They cry a mourners cry. Not is left but ash and despair.

The moon above, split cracked down the middle.

Its too much. Its too much. You are about to fall over, until you feel hands steadying you.

Your own senses return and you pitch forward. Aiha seems to have taken it worse than you as she gropes for Rin’s wastebin and vomits.


There are steadying hands on your shoulder. Kunzite looks down at you, worried. Zoisite is kneeling beside you, concern and empathy spread across his features.

Rin...she stares out her open door into the garden.

“But...but according to that,” you hold Aiha’s shoulders as tears form in her eyes.

The small objects floated about earlier by her power crash to the ground.

~Don’t worry...I’m working against that. I want to spare you girls that terrible weight,~ you say softly to Aiha as Rin approaches.

“Things already have to be different,” the dark haired girl explains, “Now there is a Sailor Sol. Now there are the Knights. You’re changing things, Mikage,”

When I consider Koito, he seems like a fairly mild mannered fellow with a love of coffee and an ever-present thermos.
