“Kiki-hime, could you come help me dress please?” You quickly gather the elements you want from your wardrobe, and lay them out on the bed, moving quickly and carefully. You don't want to put her on guard, but you can't afford to look too casual. And you really like Chinese styles, because they're just about everything good concerning clothing – colors, soft, feminine, and beautiful.

You ignore the soft laughter and the sense of Kiki-hime's blush as you carefully start looping your hair into a complicated set of knots.

She walks in and looks surprised. “That's....awfully exposed for what you said you were planing on doing, Ryu-chan. It almost looks familiar though....” She runs her hand over the tiger striped fabric and studies the almost metallic silk trim.

“Well, I don't want to look like I'm out for blood, and she knows I reside in Harajuku, so why not look nice and give her something to look at that isn't aggressive? Besides, I'm usually in a kimono or pants, I thought a dress might be nice.” You have her several layers of clothing to hold as you finish putting on the head-dress. It leaves a good three feet of your hair exposed, but that's a risk you're willing to take. “Besides, when you look at Inau, Shoko, and Yuuhi, the last thing that comes to mind is 'casual'. This will look both pretty, casual, and interesting, and shouldn't attract any more of her attention than absolutely necessary. Pity I can't carry a sword with it though.”

Her eyes widen. “That's where I've seen this style! But Jian Sun is a man!”

You can't help but wince. “Well, yes, but Rule Sixty-Three is a thing, you know.” She looks confused. “Never mind. Here, hand me that, thank you.” You start putting together the outfit, and make sure the belts and sashes are all securely attached. “the main thing is she's a Stone dragonette. If she gets her hands on me, I'm in trouble, so there's a lot of fringes and straps and the dress, which I can cut or break away from her with. Just like you fighting with Akari-niji-chan, if you get your hands on her, she'd get hurt, unless she could slip free easily.”

The tunic is a bit snug, but that's not a bad thing. It will give anyone with her something to focus on. Your legs will be unhampered, and pretty exposed, but you prefer the freedom of movement to the warmth of a dress. Not that cold bothers you much anyways. “Ryu-chan?” You look at Kiki-hime expectantly. “You wouldn't have even considered taking me along, would you?” For some reason she sounds faintly sad, or disappointed.

Believe me, Akari-niji-chan has been at my side many times, and she and I fighting together is....well, you may get to see someday.” You smile suddenly. “Besides, I actually did, for just a few seconds.”

Surprise widens her sky blue eyes. “You forget, Kiki-hime, you are strong against Stone. That's the other reason I'm leaving you and Akari-niji-chan here. Akari's duty is to protect you. But Er Yin-sensei is injured. Kiku-chan is....she's worried for her beloved. I can't expect her to react the way she needs to react if Wakaba makes it past me. So it falls to you and Akari-niji-chan to protect the two prisoners, my sister, and Er Yin.”

She starts to protest but you place your finger over her lips gently. “This is why we're training you. This is what it means to be my wife. I need you to protect Er Yin, because only you and Akari-niji-chan can be trusted to do so.” Perhaps Kiku-chan isn't as wrapped up in her loved one's situation, but Yui-niji-chan is no match for a Ryo-trained madwoman, and Kiku-chan's worry will slow her down. Jinyuu-onee-sama is no warrior. “So....I am trusting my wife to protect my family, and my subordinates to support her.”

You're a little surprised by how much your faith in her seems to matter, because she's smiling at you and her eyes are brimming with tears. You smile and adjust her robes slightly; she looks down, embarrassed, and instinctively checks your clothing, making sure everything is attached and in place. Being a wife – being YOUR wife – seems to come naturally to her.

[X] There are many wives, but this one is yours. There aren't any like her though, so, it's a stupid comparison, really.

You lift your hand and she looks confused as you sweep your finger in a lazy infinity symbol near her face. She blinks as you steal the tears from her cheeks and eyes, and wrap them in your hand, holding them tightly. Your own eyes close and you work your will upon them, a tiny bit of your attention remaining on them, in them. You open your hand and she gasps softly.

The trio of tears are tiny beads of shining glass, one with a tiny air bubble trapped inside. They're not smooth or polished; slightly faceted, a reflection of your crystal clear mind. They catch the light in ways diamonds cannot, tiny rainbows pooling in your palm. She gingerly reaches out and touches them, and they roll in your own half-crystalline hand. Gloves, remember gloves. “They're....not water anymore?”

You smile and embrace your wife, letting the tiny jewels of her tears fall into ~Nowhere~. “Yes, still water. Solid water, but not ice. A kind of magic, I suppose, but more like....more like a little of my mind, and a little of your heart, together, making them solid.” You kiss the places where her tears had fallen and hold her close. “We will return as quickly as possible. We all need sleep, and I do not want to be away from my family any longer than I have to be.”

Kiki-hime laughs softly, and shakes her head, the kind of half-laugh someone who is trying not to cry might make. “You barely stay in bed on a good day....you're always doing something, Ryu-chan.”

This one time, for her, you don't resist the blush at her use of the word meaning father, without the prefix to indicate 'her father'....in other words, calling you the father of her children. Kiki smiles as your blush deepens, and her hand slips into yours as she walks you to the living room.

Inau-san and Akari are bent over the laptop, and you can see by the way the kei-girl's eyes move she's memorizing the street maps of the location Akari is showing her. Shoko-san is draining a jar of your good plum wine, which you don't really begrudge her since you stole it anyways. Yuuhi-chan is kneeling by the door, her eyes closed, her head nodding slowly, her tail twitching back and forth slowly. Jinyuu-onee-sama is at the door to the guest room, and is looking worried, though only you and Akari would be able to tell.

You give your wife one last kiss on the cheek before disengaging your hand from hers, and give Shoko-san an arch little smile as she stares at you even while drinking from the jug of wine. It's the first time she's given you the kind of look that says 'hell save me, I wanna tap that' so you must have done something right. It is Yuuhi-chan rather than your sister you go to first, because once again, the half-nogitsune is drowsing by the door.

Moving silently is second nature to you, so it's no surprise that you manage to walk up to her without waking the sleepy nogitsune-child. When she tries to sweep the sheathed daisho down and block your hand you're not really surprised, except she doesn't wake up really. You gently go to push the sheathed weapon aside but she takes it in both hands and turns it into you, her head and shoulders falling back as she swipes at you. Going into a low stance you reach for her sleeve only to have her head and shoulders fall forward as she whips the weapon around and you're forced to tumble back out of the way while she tucks it under her arm and nearly swatted you with it in passing.

As you stand up, bemused....

Everyone in the room is staring, except for Shoko-san, who is leaning against the wall with her arms crossed, smirking. “No one ever fucking believes me when I tell them, so it's kamidamned hilarious when people who haven't got a frigging clue try and wake her up.” You walks slowly around the drowsing fox-girl, and you figure it out almost instantly – she goes into attack mode when you get within about five and a half feet of her – in other words, the range of a normal katana's reach if she were using it properly. “And coming in from above or below doesn't work either, she just fucking swats you or hammers you.”

“I've never seen someone that skilled at Mind Like the Moon before,” you murmur. “I've heard of them, but never met one.” You kneel a short distance from her and snap your fingers.

Yuuhi-chan blinks and looks at you, her red eyes bright and curious. “We leaving?” she asks, bright and alert, as though nothing out of the ordinary happened.

“Is she faking that?” asks Kliki-hime of Shoko-san quietly.

“Nope. She doesn't remember a fucking thing.”

Yuuhi-chan looks confused. “Remember what?” Sadly, you're absolutely certain she's not faking it in the slightest.

“We'll be going shortly, Yuuhi-chan, so stay awake.” She nods enthusiastically as you stand up and walk away, and in seconds she's nodding off. “....Or not.” Akari and Inau-chan exchange looks, and then hunch over the computer again as you make your way to your sister. “Jinyuu-onee-sama, I'll be back as quickly as I can. I'm sorry for saddling you with the prisoners for a short while, but I want Yui-niji-chan and Kiku-chan to keep their full attention on Er Yin-sensei, and Akari-niji-chan needs to be with Kiki-hime at all times.” You smile faintly and she smiles back, bowing to you a lot more deep than is necessary. “I love you, Jinyuu-onee-sama. Please be careful for me.”

She looks startled and then steps close and slowly enfolds you in her robes. “Oh, Aka-chan, be careful for us all.” You hug her firmly, and she does the same, her lips touching your headdress ever so lightly. You hold her for a moment, and you can feel eyes upon you; you ignore them, in favor of your sister's love.

Stepping away you walk over to the last two. They're both nervous as cats as you approach, and you pretend to not notice their glances and nervous tensions at all. Apparently, Akari's 'distrust' isn't so much 'distrust' as it is 'I'm attracted to her and don't want to like it' because Inau-chan's closeness definitely has your niji-chan bothered. Your proximity has the same effect on both of them, except Akari-niji-chan doesn't try and hide it from you, only from everyone else.

Yeah, if you were alone with these two, there would be all sorts of trouble, you're sure of it. Akari-chan's cosplay fetish is pretty strong, apparently, and Inau-san's clothing is definitely something that she'd find attractive if she trusted Inau-san.

“You have an idea of where we need to go?” You look at the computer screen. The Diocese, of course, and the surrounding areas.

“Yes aniki. I've shown her all the local maps, and she seems to have a perfect memory for them.” Akari-niji-chan looks up at you, her eyes traveling the long way up and you pose just a little, letting her see a nice line of bared thigh and how the silk and satin clings to your body lovingly. Her smile is small, but genuine. “Do you have one for Liu Biao too?”

“Only if you don't chase me around.” There's the sound of wine being spit and then guffaws of laughter from Shoko-san. “How long will it take you?” that is directed at Inau-san, who is looking a little red about the ears and neck. Her blood pressure hasn't spiked yet, but it looks like she and your niji-chan have something in common – clothing fetishists. Well, you in unusual clothing, anyways.

“Hopefully she'll smile upon us all.” Moving closer to the door, you clap twice, and everyone pays attention; Shoko drains off the wine and sets the bottle on the counter, and Akari closes her laptop. “Amaterasu-Omikami; Ryujin-Owatatsumi; Kamuy Fuchi; you have entrusted me with this task, and I will not balk or falter. Watch over those I care for, those I am responsible for, and guide my hand and heart to do that which I must, if that which I desire cannot be done.” You clap your hands twice more, and the others lift their heads. The feeling of warmth, of rightness that passes over you momentarily as you look at your companions is stronger than it has ever been.

Yuuhi-chan stands up and checks her daisho, making sure it is well secured in its sheath; Shoko-san walks over to you. “I can take us all by cloud now – I just needed some fortification. I probably won't be able to take us back by cloud, not all of us.” Akari is speaking with Kiki-hime and Inau-san is checking her arrows and her bowstring.

“Akari-niji-chan, call a taxi for us, make sure it's for a large group.” You glance at Shoko-san. “A van would be best.”

Shoko sighs, and speaks in the sweet young voice that is so totally at odds with her biker looks and monstrous appearance. “Well....I don't normally, but....” She takes several deep, fast breaths and then exhales sharply, tensing up all her muscles. In fact, she continues to exhale for a good minute, then she takes a huge breath. There is a loud 'POP' and she is two feet shorter than she was. Her tight pants aren't nearly so tight, and she's just about swimming in her jacket. Even her bosom has shrunk down to a more manageable cup size.

“That's a nifty trick. I bet Yui-niji-chan would love it.” She's a little taller than Akari-niji-chan, though definitely has a fuller bust. Nothing like Kiki-hime's though. You tilt your head. “Does that constrain your other powers though?”

Shoko-can looks startled. “Yeah, how the fuck did you know?”

“Size matters to oni-children, it ki8nd of followed.” She looks mollified by your explanation. “Hey Inau-chan, you didn't drive here, did you?”

Inau-chan shakes her head. “I rode here.”

“By bus? Or did you take the train?” Kiki-hime is as curious as you are, though you can see she's starting to become emotionally overwrought.

“Ah, rather it was on a horse. I sent her home after.”

….well, that wasn't what you expected at all.

“Taxi will be here in ten minutes, aniki.” Akari smiles faintly, enjoying how the dress sits on your hips and she can get glimpses of a lot of nice leg every now and again, especially with your tail poking at the tiger-cloth wrap just for her. Inau-san is trying REALLY hard not to look. Key word: trying.

“All right. Akari-niji-chan is in charge. She says it, that's an order from me. First priority is Kiki-hime's safety, second priority Er Yin-sensei, and third the prisoners. Kiki-hime will know if things go south, so pay attention to what she says. Try to rest, if you can. Jinyuu-onee-sama, if worse comes to worse, you take the prisoners and go to Hinata-hakase, and ask for shelter. Akari-niji-chan and Kiku-chan will take care of everyone else.” You look at those remaining home, and Kiki-hime looks down, her hands tightening on the hem of her robe. You salute your family, and then all bow their heads as you lead your team of warriors to what might become the worst fight you've ever dealt with.

….of course the damn cat is waiting outside the damn door, where the heaven else would the damn cat be?

You close the door quietly, while Shoko-san (who apparently have straps to roll her pants legs and jacket sleeves up with) stares at the nekomata with dawning horror, and Yuuhi-chan leans over to sniff at Rie's face, as Rie leans back away from her in an equal amount, her blue eyes widening comically.

You swat Yuuhi-chan's tail with your tail even as you gently take her by the hand and pull her away from Rie-sama, who somehow manages to look both alarmed and threatening at the same time. Yuuhi-jumps and yelps, which thankfully distracts her from the youkai she's on the verge of aggravating.

Wrapping her tail around her own waist and gripping it with one hand – the other holding her daisho – Yuuhi stands on her toe-tips and peers over your shoulder at the pale girl with the too-blue eyes. Shoko-san and Inau-san both look properly alarmed, which is reassuring. “Please excuse my friend, she hasn't been properly trained. I may have to purchase a leash to go with the collar I'm going to put on her.” This last you say through your teeth as you glance back at the girl now has both hands on one of your shoulder and is trying to pull herself up higher so she can get a good look at Rie.

“Aniki.” You sigh and look up at the ceiling as Rie utterly dismisses the nogitsune-child and oni-child and studies Inau-chan with aplomb.

“Yes, Yuuhi-chan?”

“I think that girl is a youkai.”

“....thank you Yuuhi-chan. I will keep that in mind.”

“That's good, because I think she's a real youkai, not a youkai-child.”

“....I understand, Yuuhi-chan. Thank. You.”

“You're welcome aniki.”

You turn your full attention to Rie-sama who turns to look at you with the same usual wide-eyed calm she has during most of your meetings. “Gomennasai, Rie-sama. How may I be of service to you this evening?”

“You gave me some prayers earlier.” She says it with the simple declaration of someone stating the obvious, as though she doesn't expect you to actually answer her. But the phrasing isn't rhetorical either.

Yuuhi-chan seems to relax, once you verified for her that you are taking her warning with the utmost seriousness, while Shoko-san and Inau-san remain wary but calm on either side of you. Rie's laser-like attention is focused solely on you at the moment, however, and you return it with the calm deference you always use when speaking to her. “I was only doing what I said I would do, which was to give you some prayers. I hope that they were acceptable, and I really hope that you're not here because they were otherwise.”

She brushes the back of her hand across her forehead, rubbing some stray strands of pale white hair out of her eyes and emphasizing the black dots above her eyes. “You didn't say it to me. You said it to someone else, but you still gave 'em to me.”

It is your turn to look somewhat confused. “Yes, Rie-sama, I did say that to someone else, and I did offer them to you. I'm afraid I don't understand what the issue is.”

She crosses her arms and looks down at the walkway, her expression that of someone who would furrow their brow if they had any concept of how to do so outside an academic one. Unfortunately you can't give hand signals to anyone because none of these people have even basic Clan Ryo training, which you vow to fix as soon as you can. Assuming you get out of the next few hours alive.

“You said it and you did it, and you didn't think I would know if you said it and didn't do it?”

Though her syntax confusing you parse the meaning immediately. “Rie-sama, you're a God's Eye Nekomata, I expected you to know I said something.” She stares at you. “If they weren't good enough, I-”

Her hand is over your mouth before you can react and you put your right hand behind you, fingers spread and palm open. Yuuhi-chan at least understands the intent behind your gesture if not your meaning, because she doesn't draw her sword, only gets ready to. Rie doesn't seem to care, and ignores both Shoko and Inau with the same equanimity as Yuuhi.

“I wanna understand. You knew I would see what you said, and you gave me prayers, because you said you would.” She doesn't take her hand off of your mouth, and you nod slowly. “You didn't think I'd come to answer 'em because they were just offerings.” You nod again, slowly. “You weren't prayin' for a gift or a boon or anythin', just giving me prayers like you gave to the kami and those old things.” You nod slowly once more, though you find it a little disturbing that she could tell who and what you were praying to.

She lowers her hand slowly, and you gaze calmly at her. Her eyes are fixed on yours, and you stare back. “Just...offerings. Even after I didn't give the pink thing the bakeneko.” You assume she's talking about Kiki-hime and the cat youkai trapped in the handkerchief, and nod, carefully. She continues to stare at you, and you're glad you learned how to water your eyes, because you're not sure even blinking is safe at the moment.

“Why?”

That does prompt a blink. “Because you act like my family's guardian, and I have to respect that, even if you aren't really my family's guardian. I said I would give you prayers for helping us and I did because I said I would. I really don't understand what you are confused by.”

“I'm a YOUKAI, not a KAMI,” she says, aggravated for no reason you can adequately determine.

You shake your head, not in denial, but to clear it. “So?”

Rie staggers back into the railing, her eyes shocked, her tails straight out and frizzed like she stuck her tongue in a light socket.

“Yeah, that's what I said too,” murmurs Yuuhi-chan.

….oh. She expected to be treated like other people treat youkai. Silly her.

“Sorry if it bothers you. Do you not want me to?” Rie shakes her head, meaning she doesn't mind that you offer her prayers. Her tails slowly melt into their slow off-beat swaying, and she slowly sinks to the walkway, utterly shell shocked. “You have helped my family, helped me, done more for me that I have any right to ask or hope for. It would be crass for me not to give you the same offerings as I give the others who help me, kami, kamuy, or youkai.” You bow to her, hands clasped, and all three of your companions follow suit, bowing deeper than you do.

Rie watches all of you, shock written across her pale face.

“Thank you for your help and kindness, Rie-sama. Please forgive us, for we must take care of a problem elsewhere.” The now-cat youkai watches from the porch as you head towards the stairs – Yuuhi's hand firmly grasped in your own as she seems fascinated by the cat-youkai.

“I don't think I've ever seen anything like that before in my entire life,” breathes Shoko softly.

“Ryukusa-sama, do you always give prayers to youkai?” Inau-san asks softly as you reach the stairs.

“Not really, just the ones who arrange for my mikoto to be cleansed and rescue my injured family members from war zones.” Shoko chokes on that concept while Inau-san takes a shocked breath. “Yeah, Rie-sama is something else. And no sniffing her face next time, or you might end up an actual fox next time, Yuuhi-chan.”

“Okay.”

Oh kami, not another one!
