/tg/ - Traditional Games

Hey guys, let me know when you show up. Sorry to be 20 minutes late. I was checking the clock all morning and it said "2 hours to go" then "still an hour and 1/2" so I played some xcom and... well now i'm late.

As our rockitship reaches the town and does some minor trade with the locals, we go through a fairly normal day at school.

How goes the building of Sienar Fleet Systems (Imperial rock-it shipyard) and the Kuat Drive Yards (Eopolis rock-it shipyard)? Are Opal and the other members of the Coalition building their own shipyards to help the military buildup?
And whatever happened to that Mint fellow?

hi hi

for some reason, i have like 19 supports and just 1 assault soldier...

Also, turned on the "not created equal" and "training roulette" option, and Stella ended up with these really strangely awesome stats... I guess I will customize her as Zoe, tho, since she's a support.
>>
>>38352450
The goliath that came up with photographs? he's fiddling away with trying to get them in color, not much there yet. Its only been a few weeks, you know? at least give him a couple of months.

Same for the shipyards in the empire. And the ones in Eopolis are already working, and busy building a fleet of fast ships for Okaba. The rest of the coalition hasnt really built their own shipyards yet. I dont think we gave them the tech for it, or the experts.

I know right, I was looking for a plasma gun, which for some reason apparently i dont have the tech for (turned out I had to capture a little grey alien alive for it), and just suddenly noticed them.

May I wish she was pretty much any other class, but at least with guardian it means she gets 2 reaction shots during overwatch, and she can shoot back at aliens when they shoot, not just when they move. Which is why she has so many fucking kills being just a support. Its sort of weird, really.

It bothers me she still gets mentally controlled with willpower 95, tho. Guess I will have to get her a psionic armor when I can.

On the other hand, I got a heavy with willpower 37 and 122 aim... which shouldnt really happen since heavy's aim is meant to suck. He has SO many kills, but Im terrified of fielding him on any mission where there may be ethereals or commanders because he WILL get mind controlled.

>>38352633
I tried to install long war, but since I keep my c: for windows only and install everything else on other hard drives (f: g: etc) it doesn't works. Its a recognized bug. You MUST have xcom installed on c: for long war to install properly. I keep my programs elsewhere so if anything gets corrupted I either format c: and just reinstall windows, OR format the HD with a problem and get done with it, so I wont be able to play long war, sadly.

Ive seen some awesome videos of it, too.

(Note: I really wanna play ironman mode, but sometimes the game crashes when ethereals are reflecting attacks, and I would fucking hate to be playing ironman, go through, say, a battleship, get to the ethereal and have it crash. Not to mention all the ehtereals in the temple ship's last room. And yes I know I can run in with ghost + assault + CCS and just instagib the guy but ive done that so many times already... if people whines about how easy the last mission is, just dont do that, you know?)

Thanks.
Also, checking real quick, Ren is fucking AWESOME too.

You got to love not created equal and training roulette. Whenever I get a rookie with good stats, I give it secondary heart to help it get a decent willpower. That "a critical hit will lower your willpower forever" thing is bullshit

Anyway, let's see...

We find Okaba in the university gardens. He's wearing his regular clothes instead of the school uniform. Guess he's mostly done reparing to leave, then.

"Eldric, good evening"
"Hello. Did the principal allow you to graduate?"
"Yes, to begin with, I had already graduated a couple of years ago. I was allowed to remain as an assistant teacher and researcher, but still had to wear the uniform."

Honestly, doesn't that just means the university had the world's foremost expert in enchanting working for them for free? Okaba should have just started his own laboratory instead. Or perhaps there was some reason he couldn't leave the university.

"If you are free..."

"Well, I intended to do so anyway. My country is full of mountains and jungles, so travel is really difficult between settlements." -he says after a moment
"Well, if you are going to Eopolis, take the chance and invite Aura to the theaters and plazas. It has a city with a fun night life."
"Uhmm... I guess there's no harm in enjoying the local culture"

Well, this means Okaba is not coming monster hunting with us, but while it is reassuring to have him for the extra dragonforce-to-the-face potential, it is never bad to see the results of his research.

Aura comes out from the nearby building and happily catches up to her master, holding his hand with a smile as she greets us.

"If you are done talking, master, you are expected in the lab" -she says with a smile
"Right. I will see you later, Eldric."
"Of course, take care"

We watch them go, and then notice Mako running across the university's garden towards the girl's dormitories.

She looks rather cute as her geta sandals go clop clop on the stone road while she rushes with elegantly feminine short steps. Looks like she hasn't noticed us as she carries a plate in her arms.

In the chess club, we see Aritsu and Sinoe (a rather rare sight at the chess club) talking with Mint. They also have many of their friends with them as they sit around a table.

So many elves. Guess these are all the Yellowleaves refugees in the university? Ah, we had been introduced to a few of them before, right? that tall one (for an elf) sitting next to Sinoe was... Lazard, was it?

You guys are replying pretty quickly and with one mind today, what gives?

They are currently discussing about the pros and cons of joining the coalition. Mostly, it is a matter of tradition versus change.

Pretty much all of them like the rockit ships, the new, faster and safer mail service, the free healing expenders, the increased accessibility of magic tools, the new foods from all over the continent (and soon the world), and such. The few worries they have are about how quickly should all these things be embraced.

"The folks back home will probably react positively to the healing potion fountains, but hate having a rockit ship harbor at the top of an elder tree." -Lazard comments with a serious tone while looking at the princesses across the table.
"I am sure the princesses know what they are doing." -says Mint as he dusts off his uniform.
"I am not against these things, just... one at a time, you know? I have seen the way the rockit ship harbor made Albion part of the larger world. It is not a bad thing, we have plenty of unique and interesting, high quality products we can trade with, but our elders are pretty xenophobic, remember? It's why most people don't seem to mind us being "at war" with the coalition, especially since there are no actual skirmishes going on" -the tall elf remarks
"Lazard, you have been our friend for decades, can't you trust us on this?" -asks Sinoe with a conciliatory tone
"I trust you, your highness. I can still believe you are wrong, however, even if I support you"

>Lazard, was it? sadly, we don't have time to coddle your people into the new age. We need them as part of it as soon as possible

There could even be smaller land ships operated in the forest for moving goods to and from the docks.

"Perhaps a rock-it ship dock can be made closer to the edge of the forest, with products and mail being brought overland. After all, as skilled carpenters as the kingdom may have, they are not used to rock-it ship designs or requirements. It would be better if you practiced on a smaller scale, until you're better able to accommodate the needs of the ships."
See if Mint responds to the barb about Elven carpenters being "backwards", if he doesn't respond, or if it seems to go above his head.

"...that would work. It would eventually develop into a settlement of its own, I think" -says Lazard as he sits back into the chair
"What do you mean?"
"Well, to begin with, warehouses will pop up, then houses, then guards, healers and walls... I doubt anyone will want to wait with his goods out in the open until the ships arrive." -says Lazard, more relaxed now.
"Uhmm"

That's right, isn't it? wherever we build the docks, it will quickly develop into its own community. We could probably take advantage of that to create a strongpoint settlement anywhere we want...

That seems like an area the next King should see about claiming.

Place it in the north end for now. A southern docks/harbor is something that a future king should want.

Miny is acting like an empty suit. Lazard who we helped in the past seems better.

Alright. Just reminding you guys, tho, even by rockitship, its still a week-long trip between the north and south ends of the forest.

"That sounds quite good" -says Mint- "A link to the world's markets means we can quickly move goods and ideas. I quite like the way imperial silk feels, and the eopolitan fashion its amazing"

It's hard to tell if this guy is an idiot or not. He understands trade networks and the movement of goods, but its just worried about what it will do for his wardrobe...

"That seems fine. It will be closer to the capital, so the land trip will be shorter as well" -says Aritsu
"We should probably begin a regular schedule of patrols along the way to prevent losses to monsters and would-be-bandits, yourhighness" -says Lazard
"There are no bandits in Yellowleaves!" -says Aritsu
"There had never been such a tempting target in Yellowleaves before, your highness"
"Why must you always worry about the bad?" -asks Sinoe
"I worry because someone must. We could also license adventurers by allowing merchants to hire them freely?" -says Lazard
"Absolutely not. We are not going to have roaming murd-- erh... armed individuals wandering the woodlands and killing anything that moves" -says Sinoe- "We will simply have to send regular patrols, instead"
"As you wish, your highness"

Uhm... did this guy just made the princess do as he wanted while letting her think it was her idea? some childhood friend. Well, if he knows them so well, guess it wouldn't be that hard a thing to do.

We gather our friends and treestride to the Burning Ember, then simply hop down to the area outside of town, and walk in.

It is a backwater... should we say it is a delightful, small typical countryside farming village? it has a few houses and a town plaza, then nothing but fields in every direction.

Of course, the villagers are delighted to have the imperial princess visit them, and prostrate on the ground in awe while Mako goes apple red.

After a while, we talk with them and learn that they have not yet experienced anything strange. Life is quite tranquil, and they would be extremely honored if the princess was to honor their little village by spending a night in the elder's house.

The villagers are exceedingly happy with the visit of the imperial princess.

Well, I guess that a small place like this would hardly ever see such an event. Assuming e keep the town safe, they will talk about it for generations and may even turn into a local holiday event.

By the way, the local cuisine uses a lot of vegetables in its dishes, but it is all quite delicious.

At night time, the villagers prepare the largest house in town to work as the princess' residence, and insist on us taking the ones around it while their residents move in to other villagers homes.

There is a festive atmosphere in town, definitively. They broke out their best clothes. In this case, I guess these are simply their cleanest clothes? a few people here and there have actually luxurious clothes, albeit they don't seem to fit them quite right. Probably family heirlooms?

As for our own temporal residence, the house is small but solid and clean, with a fireplace in a lower section of the floor, a raised platform for beds, and several bamboo screens to create artificial walls as needed.

"I'm staying with brother!"
"No, me!"

It looks like the house is large enough for Stella and Zoe to squeeze into bed with us, and of course they both want to. In the end, we go with "why not both?" and they settle down with a smile.

>Well, I guess that a small place like this would hardly ever see such an event. Assuming e keep the town safe, they will talk about it for generations and may even turn into a local holiday event.

If nothing happens, it will be just a local holiday, or event where one of the Imperial Princesses graced the town with her prescence.

If they are attacked by a monster and saved the elder will end up losing his home instead. It will end up being a local imperial shrine/temple and a major holiday for a long time to come.

The Rock-it ships will mean a lot to the empire. It will mean the Empress can hold events not just in the Imperial city, but can visit the provinces once in a while for the meet and greet.

It also means in the future, princesses like Mako can visit these small towns once in a while and have them a little less isolated. It would reinforce the families rule, even if they visit just once a generation.

No doubt the better roads in general will mean much more for these villages the the ships.

We spread our flying friends up, and make a party with them. That way we can keep in touch and see eachother's location and status.

As we go around the village once, we don't find anything. Its a very nice and tranquil place. We are just noticing, we should have seen at least some bugs or heard some frogs or something like that, but there is nothing. Not a single animal is around. Not even insects.

"Get everyone away from it!" -Eldric shouts while looking at the thing.

Its legs look quite human-like, and it walks with ample, heavy steps, but does not seem to leave any footprints behind it.

Its arms stretch several meters whenever it tries to grab a villager, and they go through windows and walls with ease, grabbing people by surprise even when they think they're safe.

Guess that's where the holes in the walls of last town came from.

It looks as if our friends attacks cut its skin, but there is no blood, or even a reaction.

There is a dark, smoking, small eye floating about 5 feet over the monster. It is constantly spinning and scanning in every direction, and we would not have seen it if it wasnt because the monster just stood in front of a white house.

Smoke that eye.

Too bad there is not any 'patch fix' damage type.

we have that job the goddess gave that lets us fight the demons but that fucks Eldric up big time.
>>
>>38357038
That's more of a last resort option. We should try and teach it to our friends though at some point, it may fuck you up but I'd rather be fucked up instead of dead.

The eye is some 11 feeg up in the air. A small, quickly moving ovject which sways from left to tight, back and forth, spinning and turning constantly as it scans the area around the thing.

Is we try to target it with a spell, we get the following message:

ERROR: Unrecognizable Target.
ERROR: Ranged attack roll required.

Uhmm... normally, spells can't miss their target. They have a 100% hit chance. Spells can be resisted partially or completely, but this is the first time we see a chance for failure on the attack itself.

Should we try and hit the eye anyway?

We throw a 10th sphere spell at it, the magic washing over the monster's eye, causing it to squirm and cry out in pain!

The body may be invulnerable, but the eye seems to be a important part of the creature which CAN take damage.

Of course, the creature's attention immediately switches to us, and our friends pick up on things almost immediately.

A rain of spells flies towards the eye, which retreats inside the body. Now it is "hovering" right in the edge of its mouth, its whole lower half protected by the invulnerable body as it rushes Eldric!

It swings at us with a claw, and hits us! the effect is horrifying as it cleanly shaves off exactly 1/2 of our HP before our abilities lower the damage by 75%

It can't be a coincidence, it is not dealing over 600k of damage per swing, we refuse to believe that! It must be a "demi" type of attack, which means it deals 1/2 of the target's current hp as damage.

>Holy fuck everyone run!

btw in case anyone doesnt know, "demi" is a old final fantasy spell which does 1/2 the target's HP as damage. Its very useful vs bosses and pretty much garbage against anything else. Quadra does 1/4 of that and ive seen it replace demi in the newer FF games.

Yeah, but endgame bosses tend to be immune. It's also useful against high level enemies or basically anything that has a fuckton of HP. It's a great opener to a fight against such things. Also useful if you're just trying to get it weak instead of killing it for some reason.
>>
>>38357635

Smite that eye as a free action then. Add straight cha as damage.

Yeah, the demi attacks, trash vs trash, and only worked on some bosses. Of coarse bad translations did mutilate some attack names.
>>
>>38357634
The eye seems to be spilling... that is certainly not blood. If this was a FPS-like world instead of a RPG-like world, we would call it a teleport-like special effect, maybe?

Its a fluorescent green spray that seems to have white, bright numbers inside it. Guess you could say it is bleeding code?

Anywhere that liquid lands, it starts eating the ground as if it was the blood of a certain xenomorph.

It swings at us again, and it hits again. Our paladin job abilities keep reducing the damage by 75%, but if it wasn't for that, this thing would be doing an absurd amount of damage!

As we rush over and stab the eye, we just barely nick it, but the thing contorts in pain again. Its body is becoming strange. Its like a tv image when the signal isint clear or the tv is dying. It looks as if it was distorting... yes, that's the right word.

The body looks as if it is distorted. It reaches deep into its maw and pulls out a starving villager.

We did not see this guy in the village, did we? it looks as if the guy is about to starve to death. He looks famished and almost unconscious. It is trying to use it as a shield against our sword.

>Sorry dude, but we need to take this thing down. -Stab at the eye through the villager package-

>>

We try and pull the villager out of its grip. The poor man seems mostly unharmed, tho its clothes are ravaged and it has plenty of smell cuts, probably from the monster's teeth.

To cover our retreat with the poor man, we throw Squidwart at the error, our massive pet flat out crushing the monster under it (and a few houses). We are under no illusion of this thing dying just from that, however.

The kraken looks confused. Well, we literally summoned a fish out of water, so we cant leave it out for long before it suffocates.

At least it serves its purpose, and when we call it back into our entourage, the villagers have all been evacuated into the Ember.

The demon has used another two villagers to wrap its eye with. Can it even see now? well it was able to see through walls so perhaps it can.

Call for healing, however it is likely panicing.

Wrestle for villagers.

Also summon up a host of valkaries to wrestle also. They should be strong enough also.

We manage to get another villager while Lyann approaches to help us fight this thing.

The monster swipes at us for massive damage once again. Zoe's healing spells cant possibly keep up.

Well, healing spells do a fixed amount of healing. % based healing spell does not exist. Thankfully, Lyann's regeneration gives us 10% of our maximum hp each turn, which completely outclasses standard healing when it comes to us.

Come think of it, maybe we should try developing a demi spell of our own, too.

>Try and stab at the eye, trying to avoid the remaining villager

>>

The valkyrie appears and immediately pulls a villager away.

Meanwhile, the regeneration buff from Lyann keeps restoring our hp by massive amounts, but it is 10% per turn while this thing does 50%. Thankfully, it is 50% of our current hp, while she heals 10% of our max hp.

And just as we are feeling safe, the creature reaches for us and begins pulling us towards its maw, probably having decided we are too much trouble to deal with otherwise.

***

We wrestle ourselves loose and summon again, having the valkyries strike at the eye all at once.

A cry comes out of nowhere. It is not the "shadow" body screaming. It feels as if it is coming from everywhere at the same time, instead, even from under our own skin.

The shadow body bloats and explodes quietly, releasing its prisoners. Many are alive, if weak, but many more are dead, their bodies corrupted to lesser or greater degree, as if they were being taken over by the stuff the error was made from.

The imperial magistrate looks up. The lionman's skin looks as if it had been melted off and completely replaced by black sludge.

"My empress..." -it looks up and sees Mako. The sight sppears to give it strength

It crawls forth towards her, and as Mako reaches forth to help it, it whispers to her, and expires.

It would be a dramatic enough moment, but thankfully we have the option of raising and healing him. It looks like he will make a full recovery.

Lets stop here for now, guys. I need to do some stuff and its about the time to end anyway

Looks like any reservations of our warning are now moot. Everyone trusted us anyways.

This is likely just 1 type of demon also. Who knows how many others there are too.

Or what else is running loose out there, with them putting everything together.
