Now that you know she wasn't just being catty or otherwise trying to hurt Vasuda, even if she was plotting to murder your brother, you've more or less resolved the issue you came to speak with her about. You suppose you could simply excuse yourself, but you haven't really had the opportunity to sit down and chat with Chrys in a long while. Moving the conversation into safer territory, you ask. “How have you enjoyed the party so far?”

She cocks her head to one side, resting a finger contemplatively on the tip of her chin. “I suppose it has been fun. The food was quite good, as was the wine. Your friends from youth are interesting. I feel I get along with Rajani quite well. We discussed our respective cultures over dinner. Indeed, many of your guest seemed quite curious about me. I have received numerous inquiries regarding my horns and where I learned to speak Samjan so well.”

You think back to your first encounter with Chrys, in the midst of the northern plains as she was roasting a creature she called a boar. Even then her Samjan was quite good, for a member of the lesser races that is. “Where did you learn Samjan? I can't recall if I've ever asked.”

She exhales a cloud of blue smoke. Seems she's getting a little more used to smoking hookah. “I am not certain. I presume it stems from my past life. My life before I was placed into that pod my father woke me from. I believe I've told you I was already a young girl when I was awoken, though I have little recollection of my youth. I have since refined my understanding of the language whilst traveling abroad with you.”

You're glad to hear she's apparently getting along with your friends. “Has anyone given you any trouble?” You can't recall seeing anything odd about the table Chryssa was sitting at other than Vasuda's upset, but your people aren't exactly known for their charity and good-will towards those unfortunate enough to be born as anything other than a Samjan.

She shakes her head. “Not particularly. One of the women, Hadia I believe, has not said a word to me the entire night. Your mother and her sister have both been rather insistently questioning me about the party, and how we are tied to you. They seemed particularly interested in your relationship to Darzi, though I am unsure why. Darzi grew increasingly uncomfortable throughout the conversation, though the questions themselves seemed rather innocent to me. Mostly relating to sleeping arrangements and other such logistic concerns.”

Gods above, your mother is trying to set you up with Darzi. “That's not unexpected. My mother has always been the nosy sort. What did you tell them? Oh, and my mother doesn't have a sister. Well, not a sister I've met at least. Are you referring to Nadiyya?” If you recall correctly, she was the only one of your father's other wives to sit at the same table as your mother. Semiha and Ayda elected to sit with Skull Kid, Delshad, Rasim, and the young apprentice who's name you've yet to learn.

Chrys takes a long drag from the silver bit of the hookah while formulating her reply. “I explained to them that I was assigned to escort you within my village and you were attacked by the guards due to your race and past crimes committed by Aghtaki against my village. I told them that I defended you, as you were my charge and I was honor-bound to do so. Thus I was forced to flee the village with you. I did not divulge the past of our other party members, stating that it was not my place to divulge such information. As for the other woman, her name was indeed Nadiyya. Who is she, if not your mother's younger sister?”

Has Darzi really not explained that your people are polygamous? That just seems irresponsible.

>Explain to Chrys that Nadiyya is your father's second wife.

As we’re all getting started on this thread, I’d like to take a moment to talk about 4chan and debate. We’ve been seeing a lot of arguments pop up recently that haven’t gone anywhere at all, and if they’re anything to go by, we’ll be seeing a lot more of them in the future. So lads, here’s how to argue productively and persuasively on 4chan.

1) Don’t repeat the same arguments/phrases over and over again.
We’re not tumblrites and we don’t have the memory of goldfish. Using one argument once or twice is enough. Calling something “out-of-character” or “really simple because we’re just using vys harvesters” to everyone calling out your idea is not an argument, and neither is repeating it for four or five posts with an increasing amount of capitalized letters. That’s just called repetitive shitposting. You are literally pulling a Nancy Grace/Glen Beck/Sarah Palin/insert shitty talkshow host. You’ve said your piece and everyone who agrees with you or would have agreed with you has taken note and will have adjusted their attitude to the situation accordingly. Every post has a cost, and that cost is anons becoming tired, sick, and opposed to you just because of the tediousness.

Further on that vein, don’t respond to non-unique critiques (non-unique referring to posts that are repeating issues that have been stated and responded to before) unless you suddenly thought of a truly exceptional and witty ripost. They’re non-unique posts! They don’t add anything to the conversation whatsoever! Anyone who has agreed with you will have continued to do so if you’d responded strongly and logically enough in your first response. Responding to clone attacks just prolongs the conversation and sours attitudes to your position. Similarly to how large numbers of posts about a single topic sour the attitudes of anons to that topic, the humor and intelligence of counterarguments will diminish every time they’re deployed as people become familiar with that angle.
>>
>>38296226
tl;dr
>>
>>38296226
[autism intensifies]
>>
If however, critiques are unique and have opened up new avenues of attack, it is highly recommended that you respond, less the individuals you just convinced slip back into indecisiveness.

2) Do take a step back and approach criticism from multiple angles
Even if you have one really good argument, that’s not going to be enough. People don’t change their minds with just one exchange. Changing people’s minds is a process that you have to constantly reinforce, and the best way to do so is by “herding” them with multiple angles. A great example of this is the argumentation during the Darzi Doo Doo Dustup at the temple, when it seemed likely we were going to let Darzi leave the party. Anons there approached the conversation with new angles every exchange and introduced fresh arguments from multiple perspectives all the time. When it was time to vote, anons didn’t vote for just one really good argument about Darzi being a needed secondary healer, they voted because of the package deal those anons introduced, such as her influence, party dynamics, being our second-in-command, etc. A good way of doing this is simply stepping back and comprehensively placing yourself into another person’s shoes. You’ve the dedication to brainlessly stare at your screen, waiting for posts disagreeing with you to pop up so that can spam the same phrase you’ve been pushing for two hours. You’ve certainly the time to get some cold water, take a quick walk, and ask yourself, “If I were a person who disagreed with these ideas, what would make me change my mind?” This contemplation allows you to evaluate weaknesses and potential openings in your opponents rhetoric, or opportunities to grab the audience in novel ways.

3) Don’t be the aggressor
No-one likes a pushy anon. By waiting for the other party to attack first, not only do you have a clear target, you don’t seem like the asshat

who is pushing your opinion into everyone’s face, claiming that they’re the most important. You’re the guy who takes that jerk to court and takes him down. This makes people more receptive to your ideas, naturally. I personally always reserve my posting until I can appear to be a defender, rather than an aggressor.

G'luck. And may the best waifu win.
>>
>>38296226
>>38296277

You haven't truly discussed the matrimonial customs of her people in any depth, but judging based on what you've seen of her society and what you know of her you feel safe in the assumption that her people are monogamous. You've never really understood why a society would develop monogamy. Usually you attribute it to Rhynian influence. If you recall correctly their religious institutions tended to frown upon what they saw as promiscuity, and supported at least the ideal of monogamous marriages.

You speak slowly, choosing your words carefully. “Nadiyya is my father's third wife. Semiha and Ayda are his second and fourth wives respectively. Within Samjan society, or at least within the Shahdom, a man is expected to take more than one wife but is not allowed to take more than four.” That's somewhat misleading, a nobleman is expected to take four wives, but commoners can rarely afford to take more than one or two. “Some keep additional mistresses as well, though to do so is considered adultery and punishable by law. Has Darzi not explained this to you?”

Chrys frowns, straightening her posture. “She has mentioned nothing of the sort. Why would your people do such a thing? Do the women not find it disrespectful that their men take other women into their beds? I would castrate the man who slept with another woman behind my back. To do so is to spit on me and to spit on the sanctity of marriage.”

You shrug your shoulders nonchalantly. “My people do such a thing because it has been a facet of our culture since we still wandered the desert sands ad disparate nomadic tribes. I am sure many human societies have practiced polygamy in the past as well, before the Rhynians swept across the world conquering all that stood in their way and imposing their cultural mores on the native populace."

(1/3)
>>
"If I'm not mistaken some elves still practice it despite their long subservience to the Rhynians, though I cannot say with certainty. It is a far more efficient method of producing soldiers for the army, workers for the fields, and heirs to the throne. A man may sire many children if the gods are with him and his seed is virile in a relatively short period, but a woman may only produce one or two children at a time, and rarely more than four over the course of their life.”

Chrys shakes her head stiffly. “You say that, but it is disrespectful. I don't care whether or not it is more efficient for a man to sleep with many women, no increase in efficiency would allow me to swallow my pride and accept such an insult.”

You hold up your hands in mock surrender. “Look, I'm not trying to convert you to my way of thinking. I'm merely stating that monogamy is not some great insult as you seem to think it is. My people do not follow the same religious tenets as your people nor do they share the same cultural background. To assert that your way is somehow superior-” As if some ridiculous human custom could possibly be superior to any facet of Samjan culture. “-is insulting.”

Chryssa folds her arms in front of her chest moodily. “Now is neither the time, nor the place, to hold this conversation. I trust that upon your return from the lands of Provincia we will find the time to discuss this in more depth.”

You find that notion agreeable, and so change the subject. “Very well, upon my return then. Now, why don't we discuss something less apparently controversial? How are you enjoying El-Amin? It is the gateway to Pidjata, a vast portal through which wealth and power flows. The largest city in the world, the rival to Ancient Rhynia itself. Not to mention, this estate is as lavish as it gets. I was hesitant at first, but I'm really rather pleased with how it's turned out.”

(2/3)
>>
She seems to relax, slouching once more into the pillows surrounding her and taking a long drag from the silver bit of the hookah pipe. “It is impressive.” She states, smoke pouring from her mouth with each syllable. “Though I find it crowded, and foul smelling. As are all cities. The architecture is strange but pleasing. Many of the buildings seem to have a sort of softness to them, I find it welcoming.” You didn't take her as the sort to admire architecture, but you suppose she is sort of artistic. “The heat is surprisingly pleasant and the clothing your people wear quite comfortable. I like it, despite my general distaste for crowds.”

She sets the hose aside, her eyes lidded and glassy. Seems the opium is starting to have an effect on her. Not surprising, she hasn't built up a tolerance to it as you have. Your thoughts are barely even clouded. “As for the estate,” She begins. “I find it odd. I cannot escape the sensation that I am being watched. Somehow stalked, as a predator does its prey.”

Unbidden she starts to ramble on, her words slurring slightly together. “I discovered a mirror whilst exploring the manor. It depicted me as a demonic creature. With black skin covered in angry red cracks, fire spewing from within. My eyes were these golden pools, and my horns were gnarled. I do not what to think of the vision it showed me. I felt the urge to touch my reflection, though did not. If your experiences have taught me anything, touching magical artifacts is generally a bad idea.”

Actchually Caesar was accused of only one homosexual affair with the King of Bithynia. They called him the Queen of Bithynia. Catullus also accused him of being gay butt-buddies with Mamurra, although Catullus later apologized. Some also say that Caesar adopted Octavius because Octavius let Caesar fuck him. More than likely all these accusations were merely political slander, as it was common to call important public figures gay fags who take it up the butt in that period.

You puff away absentmindedly at the bit of the hookah, considering what she's told you. “You were right not to touch the mirror. When I stepped in front of it, it showed me as some sort of twisted, decrepit thing controlled by a massive hand protruding from my cloak, blood dripping down my face and covering my hands. I believe it is some sort of trap, and I have been avoiding it since I discovered it.”

She frowns slightly, appearing concerned. “Why would there be a trapped mirror in the study? I see no point to such a thing. There is nothing of particular value in that room that I saw which would necessitate any sort of trap to protect. I assumed that it displayed the individuals true self, or perhaps what they may become in the future.”

You shrug your shoulders. “Even if that may be the case, I do not trust any magical artifact which compels the individual to touch it. It may indeed show what may come to pass in the future, but that does not mean it is not in some way trapped. Anyway, as for the sensation of being stalked I suppose I should mention-” You pause, glancing towards the group of four masters on the opposite side of the room, most of them slouched over and talking among themselves or fast asleep. Your sister Duha, as well as Hadia and Derya all seem to be quite deep in the midst of an opioid fueled haze as well.

Confident that you don't need to worry about anyone overhearing, you turn your attention once more to Chryss. “Right, there is a spirit living on the estate. It usually takes the form of a fat orange tabby cat, though its real form is that of some sort of massive lion-dragon creature. I'm not really sure what it's supposed to be, though it's definitely more lion than it is dragon.”

She stares at you in silence for a short while, not speaking. After what feels like an eternity she merely nods. “That would explain many things. I was wondering why I kept seeing that cat everywhere. It also explains the runes all over the pillars in the foyer. The strange tendency to see and hear things at night which do not have any clear cause, like voices in the walls or shadows moving independently. I assumed that the spirits of the previous owners still inhabited this place, but it is nice to know that it is merely the trickery of a spirit.”

You don't know if you find that knowledge comforting, especially considering you were unaware of any signs of spirit habitation other than that damned cat. “Have you discovered anything else odd whilst exploring?”

She cocks her head to one side contemplatively. “Other than the secret tunnels which connect every room of this vast estate together, and the vault hidden within aforementioned secret tunnels, not particularly.”

Wait, what did she say? “Back up a moment, did you say there is a vault hidden within the slave passages? Where?”

She looks at you confused. “I assumed that you knew. If you enter these 'slave passages' through the library and follow them until the second intersection, take a left, and place your hand within the imprint on the wall, a door will open to reveal a giant metallic door. I was unable to open it, it is sealed by some means of magic.”

That fucking cat was holding out on you! How dare the bastard?

Haha. Haha. Haha. It's actually when I started to really appreciate that this quest could have actual consequences, since so many other quests avoid them because people freak out with finger pointing and accusations whenever something goes wrong.

You place the silver bit into a small holder at the base of the hookah pipe. Your thoughts drift at random, your head filled with a dull buzz. You're overcome for a moment by a strong desire to simply lay back and rest your eyes, to allow your consciousness to drift as it pleases, but you stave it off with only slight difficult. “If you'll excuse me, Chrys, I'd like to keep my head clear. I think I'll return to the party, but you'll need to show me to the vault later.”

She nods, and rest her head against the pillows, silver bit still held between her lips. You've no doubt that she'll soon doze off, but that's fine. It's fairly late anyway. Pushing yourself to your feet you drift out of the sitting room, the sudden light of the ballroom taking you by surprise. The band have started playing again, and many of your guest have taken to the dance floor. For a moment you wish to join them, but instead you make your way over to the refreshments table and pour yourself a glass of ice cold water. It returns you, partially, to your senses. Though there's no doubt you're still quite high.

You see your father and Semiha twirling gracefully across the ballroom. Samjan dance is a very active, focusing primarily on the movement of the hips, hands, and twirling rather than footwork. Your father has no talent for it, though Semiha is surprisingly good at dancing. Especially considering she's usually so clumsy. Your sister Pratima has likewise taken to the dance floor, with Profectus surprisingly enough. It's sort of comical, watching the two of them. She towers above him.

Just "stealing" knowledge from our master is lazy, possibly impolite/offensive, and stupid.
Making deals for runes is also stupid, considering we could probably learn a shit ton of them on our own for free, just by studying our enhanted items.
>>
You see your friends Rajani, Delshad, Mohan, and Mohan's mistress all chatting amicably, though you're not sure what they're discussing. Curiously, Delshad's apprentice is not with him. She'd been sticking to his side like glue for most of the night. Searching the ballroom, you spot her, Rasim, and your brother Chetan play-fighting at the far end of the ballroom, away from the dancers. Delshad's apprentice is shooting jets of flame with surprising skill while Rasim and Chetan use water magic to fight back. You're surprised she's able to keep two other apprentices at bay at her level, but they all seem to be growing rather tired. You've no doubt they'll soon exhaust themselves of vys.

Vasuda, Darzi, your Mother, and your sister Azra are chatting amongst themselves a short distance away from you. Well, Vasuda seems to just be listening in but the rest are getting along quite well. Surprising, considering Azra has been nothing but a bitch to you since your return.

You decide to join your mother, Darzi, Vasuda, and Azra. As much as you may dislike Azra, you're not going to avoid interacting with people you actually do like just so you don't have to converse on any level with her. You finish your water and refill your cup with more before wandering over to join the circle of women.

You slide in between your mother and Vasuda. They seem to be idly discussing the prices in the market, and other such things of little import. By way of greeting, you decide to ask a question. “How has everyone been enjoying this little get together of mine? I trust everything is to your standards.”

Your mother wraps one arm around your waist, pulling you into a tight hug. “It's wonderful, honey. The food has put our slaves at home to shame and the refreshments are wonderful. Not to mention your estate is gorgeous. You really have done well for yourself, I must say I'm impressed.” With that she releases you, she seems to be practically glowing with pride.

Vasuda is the next to respond. You note that the dark powder she'd applied around her eyes has been partially smeared away, and some of it has run down her cheeks. However, despite that she seems to have pulled herself together. “I've been having a great time so far.” Her voice is quiet and tone subdued, it really does strike you how much unlike herself she is now. As a youth she was brash and bold, always charging ahead of you. She made you seem meek by comparison. “Your friends have been very kind and the decorations are lovely.”

(1/2 or 3)
>>
Darzi shrugs her shoulders, folding her arms in front of her in a vaguely standoffish manner. “Eh, it's alright I guess.” Her tone is bored, and her expression completely unimpressed. “I've seen better, but honestly I wasn't expecting much from an Aghtaki.” She pauses briefly before continuing, dropping her arms once more to her sides and smiling wide. “Honestly, Mik. How do you think I'm enjoying the party? It's fantastic! Not only that, I helped put all this together. There's something really satisfying about seeing others enjoy something you put a lot of work into. A great way to relax after our recent adventures.”

Azra doesn't speak immediately although she does eventually give in and compliment you, in a back handed sort of way. “I thought the wine selection was a little narrow and all of the decorations are a little ostentatious.” A brief pause. “I must admit that the food has been wonderful, and that demonstration you put on was absolutely amazing. I'd never seen anything like that before! I mean, it was like an actual battle was playing out right in front of our eyes!” She actually gets visibly excited as she discusses your demonstration. “I just have to try it out myself, I mean I don't know much magic but with the Gods as my witness I vow I'll learn if it means I get to play.”

Vasuda, just how much of that was NOT a lie.
>>
The sense of accomplishment you feel from getting even your least favorite sister to admit your excellence is immense. Even if she did insult your wine selection. Conversation quickly turns to your demonstration, Darzi recounting the tales of your previous demonstrations. You'd recount those stories yourself, but you wouldn't wish to come across as a braggart... or rather, it's far more impressive when someone else is gushing over one of your accomplishments than it is to do so yourself.
