Stage 61: What do dragonettes do at night?

Sleeping seems to be out of the question for now. Your demigod-in-residence has explained that demigods, and apparently nascent demigods, don't sleep much. As it is, Inau-san is only unconscious because you nearly gave her an aneurysm by teasing the poor girl so much. You're Shen is entirely restored, and your body is as healed as it can be, which has left you with half your hands as glassy, jewel-like talons. Which makes a good excuse for an evening dress with nice long ballroom style gloves....

In any case, you had some extremely bad dreams, and you suspect that Ryuu Wakaba is on the verge of losing her mind, if she hasn't already, and if she does, she's going to transform into a horrible monster. Noppera-bo are a strange phenomenon, a ghost with no face that can appear as other people. They enjoy tricking humans, and generally are harmless....unless they aren't, in which case they're a monstrous bakemono that torments the unwary and murders spirit-children.

Of course, you could be over-reacting to a mere nightmare, but when have you ever overreacted to a situation going bad so far?

Sipping the tea you've made, and curled into the easy chair, you stare at the wall outside the window. Your family is sleeping in the room you shared with Kiki-hime, save Er Yin and Jinyuu-onee-sama, who are in Er Yin and Kiku-chan's room. Shoko and Yuuhi-chan are sharing their room with your sealed and unconscious prisoners, the Wood oni-child and Water dragonette that are to your brother what Yui-chan and Akari are to you, more or less. It is his power that is driving Wakaba insane, and there is only so much that can be done to fix that. You have a better understanding than most – you've not only fought off your brother's influence, but also that of Kurao Goto.
>>
>>38288382
Less immediate problems include the devastating wound Er Yin suffered, which can be healed by a kappa, if you can figure a way to get it to help. There is now a bounty on half of your family put out by the military people hunting for Kiki-hime, undoubtedly set on your trail by Toshio Ryoga. There is apparently a small group of Chinese spirit-children hunting you to drag you off to hell (literally). The Catholic priests from the West are hunting cat youkai and a clan of nogitsune-born spirit children, and you have offered to help both in return for assistance from the God's-Eye nekomata Rie and the curious and strange nogitsune-children Peta and Reiha.

Which brings up an interesting question. Why nogitsune-born? Yes, they're similar to fox spirit children, but there are many more kitsune than nogitsune about, and there isn't exactly a dearth of actual youkai around that are actually dangerous to people. So why are the Catholics specifically targeting them?

Dreams and unanswerable questions. You need Er Yin's help. Your sister might be helpful, but she's the cause of the Chinese spirit-children hunting you, and she's a fortune-teller and spiritualist, not actually a sorceress. And while you ~were~ pretty harsh to her earlier, in all truth, you think that this is just beyond her scope of power.

[] Wake Er Yin up for a few minutes; you need guidance.
[] Take Yuuhi-chan and go find the Mill Pond Demon – you promised to take her, but not when.
[] Let Inau-chan rest a little while longer and then see what she thinks of finding Wakaba.
[] Go talk with Jinyuu-onee-sama, see what her state of mind is.
[] Drink your tea and try and relax, say some prayers, and meditate.

For Wakaba, I think damage control is the immediate concern. Tell her that our cousin went rogue, Obaa-san sanctioned his termination, and one of the things that he did was do something to her head.

As for the kappa, we still need some leverage and something to get its cooperation.

[XX] Let Inau-chan rest a little while longer and then see what she thinks of finding Wakaba.
[X] Go talk with Jinyuu-onee-sama, see what her state of mind is.

It isn't so much forcing yourself to remain calm, really, because you're not really 'excited'. All you need to do is just relax and accept that your body and mind want to do stuff. Right now, the stuff you are doing is drinking some tea, and thinking about all the stuff you need to do. It's a mind trick, and a simple one, which is why it works. It might not work for long, and it might not help in the long run, but as a stop-gap measure it works pretty well.

At least in theory.

Your family has grown into a small clan, despite the fact that two of the people actually serve the part of you that isn't even reincarnated yet. They've decided, on their own, to be part of your clan, your family. Inau-chan, despite performing this as a favor to her aunt, or as required by her aunt, because deities are awfully hard to say 'no' to, is as much a part of your family as any of the others. A midwife is going to be helpful, yes, but that's long term. Short term, she's both a demigoddess and a huntress, and that is an asset you can use now. Jinyuu-onee-sama....

Jinyuu is a problem. Her prejudice is understandable, as is her reasoning for becoming a Buddhist and seeking help in keeping you from destroying large sections of Japan, especially after she was the one who seems to have cast you in that role to begin with. Well, that's not entirely fair: true, her foresight using Water Eyes to see the future has it coming to pass inevitably, but you were who you were despite that. So really, the two things that you need to worry about are her prejudices and her penchant for obscuring things you need to know. You hope you got through to her last time, but you had thought that the previous time you “fought” with her.
>>
>>38288863

She's kind of our herald, you know. She'll probably play the drum as we unleash destruction on Japan.

As long as she doesn't stand in the middle of their ritual, she'll be fine. And attacking the messenger is ridiculously bad karma

I say we send an ultimatum, and if they don't comply we remind them buildings are full of water pipes and electric wires, and that we control what goes through both. Then we clear the rubbles, consecrate the ground and build an altar to the beings of Shintô and Koshinto who don't get enough worship
>>
>>38289217
Still, she's your sister; if not by birth, then in spirit.

Finishing your tea, you wash the cups and set them aside, and take a bottle of sake out of the cabinet and walk out onto the back porch. You say a series of prayers; to Rie, to your cousin, the various kamuy who have been helping you, carefully to your mikoto and to Izanami, and on behalf of your family and those who have assisted you as well. Your final prayer you give to Amaterasu-Omikami, thanking her for all her gifts to everyone. You perform some breathing meditations, and then decide to get some input on potential plans.

Inau is still sleeping on the couch when you walk in, but she's obviously moved, and is little more than dozing. That doesn't surprise you, really. “Inau-san.” Her eyes open immediately and she turns to you, blinking, fully awake. “How easy would it be for you to find someone if I gave you a general idea of where they might be, in addition to their name and appearance?”

“A human, a kami or youkai, or a spirit-child?” she asks as she sits up and straightens her robe.

“Dragonette. She's had training for shadow wars, but she's likely to be traveling with a group.” At least, you hope she's still traveling with a group.

“It might take me a day or so. Are they in this city?”

It's so nice having professional help! “Yes, probably not far from this district.”

“Then definitely less than a day, Ryukusa-sama.” She notices your expression. “Is something wrong, Ryukusa-sama?”

“You will have to avoid her notice, because she's impulsive and very deadly. She's also a stone dragonette, which means you might not be able to hurt her without powerful weapons.”
>>
>>38289236
To your surprise, rather than boldly claiming she's capable, she replies in a less arrogant manner. “So, find her, see what she is doing, and then escape without being notices, and do not fight her. It seems fairly straightforward. I should be able to accomplish it. Would you prefer I call you if things are dangerous or make certain I am in no danger and return here?”

“Not just yet, I have some other decisions to make. Oh, do you know much about kappa?” She shudders. “Do you know any or have any suggestions as to how to approach one for help with healing?”

She hesitates. “Kappa do not like divine beings, Ryukusa-sama. You're not truly a divine being, not yet, so you would be a little safer, but myself, Kiku-sama, and Jinyuu-sama would be unhelpful. Yuuhi-chan, Yui-sama, and Shoko-sama would be ideal to help you, and Kiki-hime is both pretty and innocent.”

That kind of takes you aback. “I can assure you she's most definitely not innocent in the slightest.”

Inau-san holds up her hands, smiling. “She knows next to nothing of the spirit-world, as I understand things, Ryukusa-sama, so she is as innocent as she can be, in the eyes of the kappa.”

“Thank you....you'll be up a while longer?” She nods. “Then, help yourself to tea, and I'll be back with more questions, I'm sure.” She smiles, bowing and watches as you approach Er Yin's room. “Actually....if you have any ideas for gifts for one, could you write them down for me? I know about the cucumbers, but anything else will be helpful.” She nods, smiling faintly. Eerie, she looks like Akari does when she smiles like that.

Unfortunately your sister is currently asleep. Which isn't really a surprise given that it's barely past....

12:45 am. You were sure you were taking your time, kamidamnit! Oh well.

Please, guys, we can't go unprepared like that.

Kappa are creatures who take politeness seriously. Like, more willing to temporarily cripple themselves than to be rude. We can't just come like that in the middle of the night and demand to talk to it.

A formal invitation to a traditional cucumber-based meal or a tea ceremony would be the minimum

[+] Calm down, stupid dragonette.

You didn't think it was still this early. It's going to take much longer than you anticipated to get used to this. Which isn't a big deal, it's something you CAN get used to, but it's not something easy. Setting that thought aside you silently open the door to Er Yin's room, and slip inside, shutting it after you. The kappa can wait until you have things arranged properly.

Jinyuu-onee-sama is asleep, though she is sitting up, meditation sleep most likely. She's against the wall, peaceful and calm looking despite the turmoil you and Kiku-chan inflicted earlier. Perhaps that's for the best, really. It's been hard on her, probably a lot harder than she lets on. Water dragonettes are stupid that way.

Er Yin is lying on the bed, but not peacefully. Her fingers and legs are twitching, very very small twitches, but obvious enough that you notice. She's not dreaming per se, and she isn't entirely unconscious either. The sheets are pulled up to her waist and a simply silk sash covers her breasts, but you can feel the fever in her body without that – her blood is hot. The open wound glistens with the salves and pastes Yui-niji-chan has coated the raw, scorched flesh with, but you don't think it's her wounds causing this – or at least, not her physical wounds.

Dragonettes don't get infections, and they don't suffer from complications of injuries....at least, not ones that are based in the mortal world. Jinyuu-onee-sama or Kiku-chan would have noticed if there was any spiritual corruption, but this might not be related to the wound at all. Something is definitely bothering her, and even laying your hand on hers seems to have no effect, save to make it worse, unlike previously.

The amount of willpower needed for any spiritual creature to even manage to struggle under a seal like that is unthinkable. Even with the training of a sorceress or a miko, the power of a seal over the spiritual world, when done correctly, is unbreakable from the victim's point of view. That Er Yin is managing this much at all speaks to insane levels of willpower.

On the other hand, she spent nearly a century inside her lover's most powerful barrier without going bonkers, so it stands to reason she'd have insane amounts of willpower.

Nevertheless, you're not going into this without some measure of assistance. You slip outside in utter silence, and quickly make your way to your bedroom, gesturing at Inau-chan's curious look that it's nothing for her to be concerned about. Slipping inside your own room, you walk to the bed. Apparently, passing around Kiku seems to be the hobby of sleeping dragonettes and oni-children everywhere, because Akari is currently snuggled up to the red-headed dragonette, while Kiki-hime's booms are being used as pillows by Yui-chan.

That's an awfully big grin for a sleeping girl.

Akari wakes instantly, as you step close to the bed, as expected, and you gesture. She slowly rolls over, Kiku-chan in her arms; the Fire dragonette wakes, rubbing her golden eyes. You wave at Akari to go back to sleep as you gently help Kiku-chan fix her robes and run your fingers through her thoroughly mussed hair, a touch of water smoothing the soft silk into a semblance of order – or at least less bed-head. Kiku-chan looks at you quizzically. Simply making the sign for Metal dragonette with one hand wakes her up fully, worried but in control of her emotions.

You pick up Yui-chan with your tail around her waist and she snuffles sleepily, Kiki-hime rolling over in the bed, where Akari draws the covers up over them both, and smiles at you, sure that you will take care of everything and everyone. Kiku-chan follows you out, Clan Ryo training making her as swift and silent as yourself.

Yui-niji-chan snorts softly and blinks her glowing eyes looking at you curiously. “'S happenin', dragonlady?”

Totally not what you expected out of her. Still....“I think Er Yin-sensei is fighting the seal.” You bring her close and look her in the eyes, though she's still mostly hanging limply, as you carry her with your tail. “That isn't normal, is it, even for her injuries?”

Kiku-chan's voice is soft, but full of that acerbic derision you love her for. “That's impossible, baka dragon. It's a seal, and made by your sister, not me.”

“That makes a difference? I didn't know that....but she's still fighting it.” You open the door in silence, as Inau-san watches you all with curiosity, though she doesn't get up. “I didn't want to wake my sister unless it was absolutely necessary.”

Yui-niji-chan yawns as you set her down next to the bed, and you offer your hand to Kiku-chan. She lifts herself up one handed and hops onto the bed, walking around to the side opposite Yui-niji-chan, whom you help up to the high bed in a more standard manner. Both of the young – well, young looking – girls kneel to study the magically trapped dragonette as she twitches faintly and fitfully. You feel their Eyes open, Fire and Void, looking past flesh and bone into spirit, soul and power.

“She IS fighting it,” murmurs Yui-chan in an awed tone.

“Gin-Gin is a powerful sorceress, but that wouldn't be enough to let her fight this hard. Something must be very wrong for her to be fighting this much,” Kiku-chan whispers softly. “Wake your sister, aniki-dragon, have her remove the seal. Let's not take any risks at all.”

You walk over to your sister, kneeling, and place your hand on her shoulder. She wakes instantly, and her eyes sweep the room, instinctively trying to determine exactly what is going on around her. “Er Yin is fighting the seal. It needs to be taken off.”

“But her injuries....”

“Yui and Kiku agree with me. The seal has to come off. We'll do what we can to keep her comfortable, but something is wrong, Jinyuu-onee-sama. Please help us.” She nods and you relax, helping her rise and guiding her to the bed. Yui-chan hops over Er Yin and kneels next to Kiku-chan. You think about it....

[] Use your nascent knowledge of acupuncture to numb her injuries.
[] Have your niji-chan and Kiku hold her arm and you'll hold the other, just in case.
[] You can react faster than Er Yin, as can Kiku-chan; just let your sister wake her.

Kiku had to fight her emotions threatening to go wild. And she's of Fire, not Water. Her mind was probably not focused on something like that.

Still, it's probable that the two are unrelated, but I'd rather not let Er Yin in contact with that kind of magic. Er Yin's Soul power vs Chinese devil pact = bad business

[X] See if there's anything more that Yui-chan can do before waking her – you doubt it, but still.
[X] See if you can calm Er Yin-sensei before they remove the seal – echoes in the Void?
[+] Can Inau-san help?

[+] It's just like a fight, after all, you're just fighting pain and turmoil.

“Before you do that – is there anything at all you can do for her beyond what we've done already, Yui-niji-chan? Anyone else?” You lay your hand over her heart, resting it there on the silk and letting her feel your presence. You speak to her, through the Void, hopign your words will be heard, even through the seal. She is technically asleep, and you can feel her through that strange link.

“No, aniki, I've done all I can, even to reduce the pain.” Yui-niji-chan glances at Kiku-chan. “I'm sorry, Kiku-sama, but there's just....too much that's gone.”

Kiku-chan shakes her head to Yui. “You've done more than your share.”

“Yui-chan. Go ask Inau-san if she has anything that can help.” Yui's eyes light up. “Quietly, people are sleeping still.”

Yui slides – carefully – off the side of the bed, and darts with surprising quietness out the door and into the living room. You look at Jinyuu-onee-sama. “If I understand correctly, you take off the seal and she is instantly awake and aware, right?” Your sister nods in agreement. “All right.” You crawl up onto the bed – why is it so high anyways? – and kneel next to your injured seer, her wounded arm and shoulder next to you. You lean over, kowtowing, really, and place your forehead nearly against hers, closing your eyes, reaching for her, through the silence of the Void, taking her unmoving hand in yours.

[XX] Try and be with her, feel what she feels, share her pain and turmoil.
[X] Void creates Water, Water can enter the Void; you can help her through this.

You're not mystically inclined.

While this may seem like a pretty stupid sort of thing to complain about, being the living, breathing child of a literal god and a human mother, you're not particularly mystical in your nature or outlook. Certainly, you understand the basics of spiritual existence, but realistically you're a very clever, very cunning person who fights really well. Kiku, Yui, Er Yin, your sister....they're mystics, spiritualists, sorceresses, and magicians. You're all claws and sharp blades and deadly accuracy.

Nonetheless, you shut out everything around, you, the sound of Inau-san walking in, her softly spoken words to Yui-niji-chan, the feel of Kiku-chan's sad eyes on you, your sister's confused hope and fear. You still your breathing, matching it to Er Yin's breaths; you speed up your heart a little, pacing it to hers. You imagine the way the burns feel, the missing parts of her body, impose those feelings upon yourself, accept the pain, more than imagine it, MAKE it, embrace it. Her hand grips yours, ever so slightly, the weak grasp of a person breathign their last or fainting. You grasps back, equally weak, knowing her muscles are damaged, knowing how she is wounded.

You remember the kiss. Her kiss.

The Void doesn't fill anything, it creates the place for Water to fill. She is the Void, trapped in an empty place, still and quiet. You simply....pour yourself into that place with her. She catches you with open arms, holds you close, her eyes bright and shining pools of silver and blue, her voice ecstatic. “Ryukusa!” You hold her close, smiling as you take her pain, hold it at bay with your power over your shared bodies, your hearts beating as one, your breaths as one.

You open your eyes and look at the X-shaped scar upon her face, then look into her eyes....

Her open eyes.

Her SEEING eyes.

~KRAK~

Your head splits open, visions of blood and torn flesh and slaughtered spirit-children, a phantom that wears many faces, a sword that cuts through light and leaves darkness and death in its wake. Talons of stone, grey flesh, a faceless monster tearing lives and loves apart, destroying peaceful households and murdering it's way across all of Japan. Blood, blood everywhere, everyone's blood, your Akari's Pearl, crushed, her heart torn out, her face a ruin-

You jerk back as another loud ~KRAK~ splits your eardrums, and you slide off the bed on your knees, panting heavily as you try and catch your breath and your racing heart. There are several surprised cries from the bed – Yui's ridiculous “WAH!” and Jinyuu's shocked gasp, Kiku's cry of “Gin-gin!”

A soft, breathless sigh from the bed, and Inau-san is suddenly at your side, taking your arm. “Ryukusa-sama, are you all right? Can you see me?”

….what kind of question is that?

You look at her and blink. “Of course I can, what happened?”

“The seal burst, in front of your face.” You blink at Inau-san. “Jinyuu-sama was reaching for it and it just exploded.”

“Is Er Yin all right?” You like to say that your voice doesn't sound panicked, but at the moment, it would be a lie.

Her voice is soft and it's a relief to hear it. “You saw, aniki?” Er Yin's voice is breathless, more a whisper than anything else. You start to get to your feet....oh, THAT'S why the bed is so high.

[] I saw, but I don't understand it.
[] It's Wakaba, isn't it.

[X] Please tell me it's a future I can stop.

You lean on the edge of the bed for a few seconds as you stand upon your knees, noting that if you were a few inches taller, and someone was sitting right at the edge of the bed that things would be really convenient. You decline to mention it, mostly because Inau-san would probably get a nosebleed, and people have had enough panic for the evening.

“Don't get ahead of yourself, Er Yin-sensei. Are you suffering any? Do you need anything?” You stand up and gently brush the tiny scraps of paper away with a breeze as you lay your hand upon her forehead. Her good hand is held in both of Kiku-chan's hands, and your bitsy dragon could humidify the room in short order with the steam coming from her eyes.

“I am in no pain, Ryukusa-sama. I cannot move my arm at all, but otherwise I am in no discomfort.” Er Yin sounds exhausted, but her eyes are open, blind and unseeing. She turns her head towards you looking through you. “You did see.”

“Ryuu Wakaba. The reincarnation of Pauchi Kamuy was playign in her head – he's the one who burned you, and we're lucky that's all he did.” You take a deep breath. “I dreamed she became a noppera-bo. That's what you've been seeing, isn't it, Wakaba becoming a bakemono.” You voice is serious and Jinyuu and Kiku-chan are staring at you like you just summoned up Izanami-kami into the room. “Was it a true dream? “You can stop her, but you have to go now, Ryukuza-sama. You can't wait. Kiku-chan wipes her....well, rubs her eyes anyways.

Yui-niji-chan looks up at you and is very serious. “Aniki, we can't put her under a seal again until the medicines wear off. She can't be left unattended for even a minute.” You nod slowly. “And you can't go alone. You promised.”

Fuck.

Kiku-chan looks up at you here eyes wide and worried. “Aniki....” She's torn between her duties to you, her duties to the kamuy or the kami, and her beloved Master, and it doesn't take a genius to see that.

Jinyuu-onee-sama speaks softly. “A dragonette becoming a bakemono....that's very, very bad. She's a Stone dragonette now, but she won't lose very much of that strength or that durability, aka-chan.” Wonderful.

“You can stop her. You must, Ryukuza-sama.” Er Yin is drifting into sleep and Kiku-chan bites her lip, her tail lashing violently. Yui-niji-chan is looking at you still, her soft, cute face serious and calm....and her hand resting on Kiku-chan's knee, unnoticed by most. There's also a very wicked, steely look in her glowing eyes. Sneaking out, probably not really an option.

Kiku-chan bows her head, and whispers her agreement, stream streaming from her tightly shut eyes, and you can see the vast relief your command gives her. Jinyuu-onee-sama looks....frightened, but she says nothing, trying to trust as the rest of your family does. She's learning, which is good.

Of course now you have to deal with the real gauntlet. You step outside with Inau-san in tow, and 'surprise, surprise', everyone in the household is in the living room. You would have been more surprised if that hadn't been the case, since the exploding talisman probably woke every warrior in the place – even if it was not that loud a bang as it seemed.

Shoko-san is leaning against the wall near the back porch, dressed in her leather jacket and tight leather pants, and a simple t-shirt that is at least a size too small. Yuuhi-chan is near the door, kneeling with her sword held in both hands, alert and fully dressed. The door to their room is open, and the prisoners within eyesight of Yuuhi-chan, both still sealed and tied up. But it is Kiki-hime who stands in the middle of the living room with her expression grim and her eyes hard, with Akari-niji-chan standing just behind her and clothed in her black schoolgirl's uniform that gives you pause. Kiki-hime looks ready for a fight if she doesn't get her way.

The Wit style shows the opponents the worst things about who they trully are.

She's a mad Dragonette on the brink of becoming a tortured abomination.

> the way we used it against Kushinada could easily be co-opted for good

We broke her mind showing her she was a psychopathic murderer.

>The whole pacifism thing could work with positive reinforcement as much as negative in mind matters

What pacifism?

“I would guess someone explained the important parts,” you murmur, and are completely unsurprised by Yuuhi-chan raising her hand. “Well, it does save me the trouble. I have to do this, but I promise, I'm not going alone.”

“I know, Ryu-chan You're at least taking Akari-chan with you.” Akari smiles faintly and gives the slightest of shrugs as Kiki-hime give you her ultimatum.

“You do realize that Ryuu Wakaba is totally going to try and kill her without any provocation at all, right, kasan?” The gentle admonition doesn't seem to faze Kiki one bit. You ignore Yuuhi-chan's confused look towards Shoko and her mouthed repetition of the honorific for the mother of your child. “And she's in the same condition as you are.”

“I know Akari-chan. The rest of these people, as trustworthy and dedicated as they are, are not family yet. Akari is, and I know she'll protect you.” You try not to laugh at Shoko's violently pantomimed 'zip-it' gesture to Yuuhi-chan, because that would be so totally inappropriate. To Yuuhi-chan's credit, she remains silently confused, mixed with the obvious desire to claim that she's trustworthy.

“I'm not looking for a fight, but if there is a fight, it will be incredibly nasty, Kiki-hime. There's no such thing as an easy fight against bakemono.”

Her expression softens ever so slightly. “I know, Ryu-chan. Take her.”

[] Fine. Akari, Yuuhi, Inau, with me.
[] No. Inau, Shoko and Yuuhi. Akari stays.

[] Yuuhi, Inau and I can finish this job.

Well, this is tough. Akari will definitely prompt a violent reaction I'd say, but it's also possible that without her actually faced with Akari as a way of working out her hang-ups and craziness in one way or another, she won't really be fixable.
>[x] Fine. Akari, Yuuhi, Inau, with me.

>>38293814
>We broke her mind showing her she was a psychopathic murderer.
Yes, because we actively threw her short-comings in her face and she was too heavily dragged down by them to withstand having to face the reality of her sins. There's no reason we'd have to take the same route against Wakaba - for example we could focus on her madness which is hardly a personal fault or sin, not that I'd necessarily think it would work - and even doing the same thing would have different effects on different people.
>What pacifism
The whole not fighting back thing towards the end - not exactly by choice against Kushinada since it was a result of our style choice letting her overpower us, but there's no reason it couldn't be.

I want all the trickery possible.

I really don't want to bring Akari and provoke her...hopefully we don't need her to get through.
>>
>Quick interjection: there is no "kind" way to use Barrier Combat. Barrier Combat is specifically about brutalizing your foe into submission, be it physical, mental, or spiritual brutality. Purification and healing are the jobs of miko and spiritualists - but they can't do it against a person whose actively trying to kill them either.

Is there a reason why there is no option to take Akari and Shoko in the same group?

I was about to ask this as well.

I think XS just didn't want to list every possible combination.

Not endangering our unborn with this.
>>
>>38294127

>No reason. You can write in your own choice - Ryukusa would prefer the slayer of a deity stay if Akari couldn't, is all. After all Shoko did kill a god single handedly (with an advantage), so leaving her with Kiki-hime seems like a safe bet, even with the others here.

On the condition that she stay in absolute stealth mode until shit hits the fan. I don't want her to provoke a reaction ahead of time.

[X] No. Inau, Shoko and Yuuhi. Akari stays.
As comforting as it may be to have family there, this is about pragmatism and not having Wakaba snap at the first opportunity.

>It isn't about me, hime. If Wakaba loses it, it's all of Japan who will suffer, and Akari first if the bakemono has any says into it. I will not put Akari in a spot that will make things worse, and I'm sure as hell not putting her in a spot that might make me unable to save her.

But Akari must stay out of sight. We can't trigger Wakaba until the time is right.

Yui is Void, not Stone. Akari is our only stoner.

Smother her with it, since Paper covers Rock.

Who knows, maybe it's a really hunky door and just her type so she can put all her crazy obsessiveness towards Ryu/Akari behind her.

[X] No. Inau, Shoko and Yuuhi. Akari stays.
[+] Kiku, plz.

You sigh and close your eyes. Yuuhi-chan has been waiting for this opportunity since she declared herself your subordinate, and taking this from her is impossible. Inau-san can find Wakaba – tonight, even, and probably even faster than before. No brainer.

You take a deep breath, and open your eyes. She knows what you are going to say, and you can see her immediate response. Akari takes a startled step back, and Shoko surreptitiously stands away from the wall. Inau-san too steps away, the heavy aura between you and your wife too palpable to stand close by. “Kiki-hime, this is not about our family. This is about the safety of Japan. Ryuu Wakaba was driven mad by a kamuy, and that madness centers on our niji-chan.” You can see the momentary glimmer of worry, before she steadies herself. “If Wakaba can't be saved, she's going to kill Akari first, then everyone in Clan Ryuu, then all of Clan Ryo, then every spirit-child in Japan.” Kiki-hime has gone pale, and Shoko-san is looking a little ill too.

“You cannot ask me to place Akari in-between myself and the lives of all our people.” She's wavering, and then you realize something. A small, vitally important something. “This is what I am, kasan, this is my duty. Not to Clan Ryo, not just to my family, but for the kamuy and the kami. I destroy the things that have to be destroyed, if they can't be saved.” You walk up to her and gently take her into your arms, and she lowers her head to your bosom. “I am sorry, Kiki-hime....but this time, Akari must stay here, even if I want her by my side. I need her, and you safe. She can protect you, if I fail.”

At least, that is your hope.

“Hai, Ryu-chan. I understand.” Akari smiles faintly and lays her hand on Kiki-hime's shoulder, looking sympathetic. “Promise you'll come back, please....”

You take a deep breath, and hold her close. Shoko, Inau, and Yuuhi rise and mover to the door at your nod. “I will be back soon. Take care of Yui-niji-chan and Kiku-chan for me. They need you now.” You kiss her head and she steps back, leaving your robe wet with her tears across your breasts. You gesture to Akari – warning her of the No-Face that you will be facing, and her expression hardens.

“Hai Ryu-chan. I'll make sure they are all right.” Kiki-hime smiles, her eyes shining, as she steps back. “Come home safe, my husband.”

You nod, smiling, not trusting yourself to answer.

“Aniki.” You turn to Akari, curious. “You might want to change.”

….Oh.

Thanks for running XS, it was fun!

Though, honnestly, I think Oba-shit prefers us to the ... alternative, shall we say.

Think about it: she let us have Akari nearby, doesn't kill Yui as soon as she approached us, send us on a job that not only make us stay with Kiki, but also let us meet Kiku (who is a known worshiper of our mikoto) and give us the opportunity to release Er Yin. Furthermore, she still didn't send her goons after our heads.

Remember what Amaterasu-dono said: would you like an executioner who do their job as cleanly, painlessly and humanely as possible, or a sadistic butcher?

The old snake lived to see what the world become without our mikoto doing its job. I doubt she wants to relive the experience, if it's even possible given how low her worship must be.

Thank you for running, XS. Heavy was an understatement, I was barely sure of the last two choices.

May this insignificant dragone ask if you had found decent information about Japanese spirituality and beliefs? I understand you have been sick and traveling, I was just wondering if you had made any headway.
>>
>>38295405

There is other religions around, but they're massively less powerful outside of their homeland
>>
>>38295405
XS mentioned the Buddhists and the Catholics, and said the old Aztec pantheons may still be around.
Thankfully, with the exception of the Catholics, they don't really travel beyond their homelands, which is a good thing because fuck those Aztec names.
Yeah, fuck you Nezahualcoyotl and fuck you Tlahuizcalpantecuhtli. Maybe if you had sensible names (and rituals that didn't involve tearing out still beating hearts out of victims) you'd still be around.
