You are Siegfried Schmidt, son of a blacksmith, proud member of the Morsland city guard, and most recently, wielder of the holy sword Galadriel. You were content to stay in Morsland as a simple guard, but it seems Galadriel had a different plan for you.

Lousy damn sword.

After everyone left, Arniel helped you get back to your bed and told you not to worry too much about what happened for now, recommending that you get some rest.

You look over to the side of your bed, where you sat down Galadriel. Daniel said they would be back to speak with you about what happens next now that Galadriel has chosen you. You imagine he's going to ask you to come with them back to the Watchtower, probably so you can help them fight the demons in the Forsaken Lands.

You're not too eager to get into a fight with more demons. Not after one of them nearly disemboweled you. You close you eyes and rub your eyelids, wondering what you should do now.

>Examine Galadriel closer. If you're going to be using it, you might as well learn more about it.
>Run away in the middle of the night. You'll be damned if you're getting dragged into any more demon fights.
>Fuck it, you're tired. Go to sleep now and think of what to do next later.

And then I completely forget to put on my trip in the first post. Whoops.

You sit yourself up and pick up Galadriel, placing it in your lab. If you're going to be using it, you might as well learn more about it.

You hold the handle close to you eye, looking down the blade. You gauge it's length, estimating it at roughly 100 cm or so, about average for a longsword. Then you take a closer look at the metal. You give it a tap with your knuckles on the flat of the blade. You don't think it's iron or steel, because it's actually way too light to be either (the irony of that is not lost on you). The blade is a shiny gold in color, maybe some sort of tint? No, not a tint. You've seen tinted blades in your father's workshop before, they had a different sort of sheen to them. Maybe it's made out of gold or something? No, that would be retarded.

You scratch your head. Whatever this thing's made of, it's something neither you nor your father have ever worked with in the workshop.

You examine the sheathe. It's covered in intricate engravings of men and angels battling demons. Fitting, you suppose.

Well, that's about all you can gauge just by looking at it. You remember how the blade seemed to sear Andras's skin where you cut his arm in you battle with him before, and wonder if that's just a demon thing. Maybe you could try making a little cut on your finger with it, just to give it a test?

>You're curious. Make a tiny cut on your finger just to test it out.
>That's fucking stupid. Set it down and think of something else, like what you're going to do when Daniel and Erika come back tomorrow.
>Set it down and go to bed. You've learned all you can for now, might as well get some rest.

You shake your head. You've learned all you can for now, might as well get some rest. You put Galadriel back where it was, and try your best to get some sleep after everything that's happened recently.
>>
>>38275760
You find yourself on a battlefield, surrounded in bloody carnage. Men in white armor battle monstrous beings all around you. The clashing of steel on steel is almost deafening. You can hardly move without stepping on corpses, the majority of them men in white armor. The men in white armor fall back, spearmen up front to cover their retreat, while mages in the back cast spells to heal the wounded or push back the assaulting demons. For a moment it looks like they'll be able to escape. But then it comes, some horrible demon with big black wings that are almost invisible in the night sky. In it's hands, you see a large red ball of malicious energy form, before it throws it towards the retreating soldiers. It explodes, killing all of them in one blow. Hardly anything is left of the men who once stood there.

With them finished, the demons turn their eyes towards you. It's at this moment that you realize you are wearing the same white armor as they were, clutching onto a bloody halberd, the weapons shaking in your grasp as you shiver in fear. You want to run, but your legs won't move. The giant winged demon roars, then divebombs towards you. You scream, feeling it's wicked teeth find your neck and...

You wake up in a cold sweat, eyes darting around the room. There are no demons here, you're not dead, everything is just fine.

"Damn nightmares..." You curse, laying back into your bed. You must have been having bad dreams about demons because of the recent developments. You have to admit, even if it was just a dream, it left you pretty nervous about going to the Watchtower.
>>
>>38275784
You sit yourself up again when you hear a knock at the door. Probably Daniel and Erika, here to talk about the sword early in the morning. You look to your left, where you set the sword. Maybe if you give it back to them, they'll let you off the hook, or-

Wait a minute, why is there a Halberd sitting where Galadriel was? You look closer at it, realizing that it has the same gold coloring as Galadriel. Did the sword change into a Halberd because of your dream? Actually, looking closer, you realize it looks exactly like the halberd you were carrying in that dream.

As you're pondering this, Daniel and Erika enter the room. "Ah, Siegfried, I hope we didn't wake you- wait, what happened to Galadriel?

>"I don't know, when I woke up it was like this."
>"You tell me, you're the people who know how this thing works."
>"No clue, all I know is I had a halberd in my dreams, and now the sword is a Halberd. What gives?"

You shrug. "Hopefully realized her mistake and went off to find a real hero, though I don't think I'm that lucky. Had a dream about killing demons with a halberd though."

Daniel eyes the halberd curiously, walking over to take a better look at it. "Curious, it still has the same engravings as Galadriel." He tries to pick it up, it doesn't budge. "It is certainly as heavy as Galadriel. You said in this dream you were using a halberd?"

You nod, deciding not to mention that you actually died very quickly in your dream.

"Are you trying to say Galadriel can change shape?" Erika asks, confused. "I didn't know it could do that."

"Nor did I." Daniel says as he scratches the back of his head.

"Wait, what do you mean you didn't know it could do that? Isn't it supposed to be some sort of holy relic to the Watchtower? How could you not know."

Daniel shrugs. "It has been over 200 years since Galadriel has chosen someone to wield her. A lot can be forgotten in that time."

>"Well that's just dandy. How do we figure out what it can and can't do then?"

We should start a journal right away to document the abilities of the sword, so future wielders have a better idea of what they're using.

We should also see if our father has any contacts who might have worked with the material this sword is made out of (Titanium?) before, so we can get an idea of what to expect.

"We did document it. The records were just lost between then and now, after the Red Watchtower was set ablaze in the 42nd Crusade, back in-"

"I got it, you lost the records. Don't need a whole history lesson on how you lost them. Point remains, how do we figure out what this sword, or halberd I suppose, can do?"

He thinks for a moment. "Well, you could always attempt to ask Galadriel yourself.

"You know, Galadriel may be able to transform, but I don't think it grew ears while it was at it."

"He means you could try meditating with it, jackass." Erika says. Seems she's not enjoying your early morning snark too much.

If your snark is bother Daniel though, he doesn't show it. "It is as Erika says. Galadriel may be sealed with the sword, or halberd, as it were, but she is still an angel. If you were to meditate with the halberd in hand, you should be able to get through to her."

"Okay then, and how do I do that?"

"First, take hold of the halberd."

You do as you're told, taking the halberd and laying it across your lap.

"Good. Now close your eyes. Think of the weapon, get a good mental image of it in your mind's eye, then hold that image until you feel something shift."

You obey, thinking of the engravings on the sword/halberd's side, of how light it is now, and of the golden sheen it has on it.

Everntually, you feel a gust of wind blow into your face, and when you open your eyes, you see that you are sitting on top of the clouds, the sun shining brightly overhead. You stand up, confused as to what's going on, when you hear the beating of wings coming from behind you.

You see a figure in blue and gold armor fly overhead, it's six golden wings reflecting the light of the sun like metal. It settles atop a mountain peak that pierces through the clouds, about 10 feet away from you. You can't make out it's facial features from beneath it's helm, but you get the impression it is eying you expectantly.

"Uh...hi?" You ask, your earlier snark starting to dry up. Probably for the best, all things considered. "Galadriel, is that you?"

"I am the one of which you speak, yes." Your answer comes not in a verbal reply, but in a mental response. Her voice echoes and resounds in your head, as though multiple voices of slightly differing pitch and tone were speaking in your head all at once. It's a little creepy, in all honesty.

"I am Galadriel, the second seraph of the first choir of righteousness. And you are Siegfried Schmidt, the one whom I have allowed to carry my blade. You have questions for me, do you not? Speak then."

>"How are you talking in my head like this? And how do you know my name?"

You start with the first question that comes to your mind; why she chose you in the first place.

"Why did you choose me? I'm just a guard, I don't even want to be a hero."

Galadriel examines you in silence for a moment before answering. You get the impression that she is watching you very carefully, sizing up your worth maybe?

"For two hundred years, I have bided my time, waiting for a champion to claim my blade. Many others had claimed my blade before, but all proved unable to bear the responsibilities which come with bearing my blade. Though they were all mighty, somewhere along the path they fell. Andras, in his time, was my greatest champion yet. He was strong, his will was like iron, and he had the drive to cast out the spawn of Malal, those who you call Demons, from the Forsaken Lands. I thought if any could use my blade to pierce Malaphas's black heart, it was he. But he was a cruel man, and over time it became clear that he was not a man worthy of bearing my blade. So I would not cut for him, no matter how hard he would swing. In his outrage at my rejection, he turned to Malaphas, becoming the very thing which I exist to slay."

She continues. "After that, for two hundred years I waited, hoping that one day a perfect champion, one as mighty as Andras, but more righteous in his deeds, would come along. Stubbornly I waited, sizing up the deeds of all who came before me, and found them wanting. But when Andras came to take my blade at the Festival of Creation, I knew my time was up. I has waited to long for a perfect champion to come forward, and I knew I had to choose a champion quickly, or risk falling into his hands when he came to take me again. And so I observed your battle with Andras, taking note of what each of you did."
>>
>>38277994
>taking note of what each of you did."
Stabbed a dude in the back, stole some gloves, and swung a sword like a giant club.
>>
>>38277994
She leans forward, now you can definitely tell she is sizing you up. "You were cowardly, attacking your opponent from behind. Yet it was an effective move, and you would have surely been killed had you fought Andras face to face. Then you took Erika's gloves, and from the moment you took hold of my blade I learned all there was to know of you. You were foolish, cowardly, slothful, and by no means a champion worthy of my sacred blade."

You can't exactly refute everything she's saying about you, but damn, it wouldn't hurt her to see things from your perspective.

She straightens up. "However, you were brave enough to attack Andras despite being clearly outmatched, even if it was from behind, and had the courage to fight him with my blade, despite not having access to my powers. And on top of that, though you failed to slay him, you were able to stand up to Andras long enough to allow reinforcements to arrive, no mean feat without the aide of my blade or other holy magics. You were far from perfect, but my time was short, and you were the best option available to me at the time. You would do."

Hold up, did she just say "You would do"? For a moment, you think she sounds really disappointed.

>"What do you mean "I'll do"? That's pretty half assed."
>"Well if I'm such a bad champion, why don't you go and find someone else?"

Ah fuck you and your bullshit. My job is keeping people safe, not being a shining symbol of honor. Well, it wasn't, until you mucked that up. I'm supposed to be a city guard, and I'd be happy to go back to that.
>>
>>38278065
Rather than get particularly mad about it, you laugh. "Gotta admit, you did hit the nail on the head."

This seems to catch the angel off guard, as she examines you laughing when she just brazenly insulted you.

After a bit more laughing, you ask her. "So, if I'm such a bad champion, why don't you go and find someone else? Is there no time or something?"

Galadriel regards you for a second, then nods her head. "So long as Andras seeks to take back my blade, I cannot sit idly and wait for a proper champion to come and take up my sword. I need someone to carry my blade, so that if Andras should return to try and take my sword by force again, they will be able to fight him off."

"So what, we're basically stuck with each other until someone better comes along to take my place?"

She ponders your question. "Yes, that should suffice. Should a proper champion come along to take up my cause, I will release you from service and you may do as you please. But until then, we must stay together, lest you be slain by Andras seeking vengeance for his arm, and I be stolen away back to the court of Malaphas, where I will surely be destroyed."

"Then until either someone better comes by or Andras is dead, we're stuck with each other?"

"Indeed."
>>
>>38278864
"Then in that case, you should probably tell me how to use your sword or halberd or whatever to defend myself."

She flaps her wings, hovering over and landing across from you. It's only now that you notice she's standing at least a good 3 or 4 feet taller than you. "I have many powers to offer those who carry my blade, but I only trust them to those who have proven themselves virtuous enough to handle the responsibility of such powers. If you should prove yourself to me, then I will bestow more powers upon you. For now, you will only know one of these abilities. But my blade is a potent weapon regardless, particularly against the unholy. Let me show you how to use this new power."

>Congratulations! New powers unlocked!
>Weapon Shift - Change Galadriel into a different weapon to better fit the situation. Everything from swords to maces to bows with arrows of light are possible, but it must be a conventional weapon. Lasts indefinitely, but will change back into it's normal sword form after you fall asleep.

After learning from Galadriel how to start making use of your new sword, you return to consciousness in your bed. Erika and Daniel are sitting around you, presumably watching you the whole time.

"So, what happened?" Erika asks you. "Did you see Galadriel? What did she say, what was she like?" She seems excited to hear what happened while you were meditating. You suppose it makes sense, since her church has been waiting for Galadriel to say something for a really long time now.

"Yes." Daniel agrees. "I would also like to hear about what you saw, if you don't mind."

"Eh, she's a bitch, but at least I'm not the hero. Not really, anyways. It was a sort of 'Oh shit, Andras is right there' moment. So I've basically got the chance to wield her like a normal weapon we find someone better...ya know, Erika, if you want to try, Galadriel's lowered the standards. All the other Heros didn't die in glorious combat either. They eventually found the only way to escape her is die, so they just let themselves get stuck down or killed themselves.

I don't really think that, but I do believe all then died cause she kept telling them to charge right into the fray like idiots
>>
>>38279104
I wonder if angels in this setting are so autistic they can never figure out why the mortals they commune with directly always wind up either dieing young or turning to the darkness?
>>
>>38279264
Possibly. You think they would notice something was wrong after the second hero turns into a villain.
>>

"She basically said that I'm stuck with her until she can find someone better. She doesn't think too highly of me, but that's to be expected. Beyond that, not much, she just taught me how to use her sword, which I won't be able to use fully until she decides I ready for it."

Daniel looks at you in surprise. "Until someone better comes along? Then you are just a temporary champion?"

"Seems like it." You tell him with a shrug. From the corner of your eye, you think you see a relieved look on Erika's face. You're not entirely sure how to interpret that.

Daniel, however, looks very disappointed. He sighs "Then we will just have to keep looking. But at least now there is someone who can carry her, which is a start." He looks up at you. "However, I would still very much like it if you would come back to the White Watchtower with us. Even if you can wield Galadriel now, you still cannot access her full potential. If you were to come with us, we could teach you how better to defend yourself even without Galadriel should any demons like Andras pursue you, and it would be the safest place to take refuge from Andras should he desire revenge for his arm. If your duty is only to carry Galadriel until a more worthy bearer arrives, I imagine no one would ask you to assist us in our missions either, unless you chose to of your own accord."

Hm. Well, if you aren't obligated to go fight any demons, you suppose learning how to fight demons could be helpful while you're holding on to Galadriel, and it'd definitely be a safer place than Morsland if Andras decided to come and get you. At the same time though, you'd have to leave your hometown behind, and even if you won't be forced to help with their missions, the Watchtower is still pretty close to the Forsaken Land's border.

You finally cave. You don't want to get caught up in some kind of big end-all-be-all fight with Malaphas or his generals, but if you don't have to go out and hunt down demons with them, then you don't mind going with them to the Watchtower and learning a few tricks in case one of those demons decides to come to you instead.

"Alright, fine, you've convinced me. I'll go to the Watchtower with you people."

Daniel smiles "I am glad to hear that, young one. Even if you are not a permanent champion of Galadriel, morale at the Watchtower will surely improve when they see that someone has finally been able to lift the sword, at least."

"Alright, fine. Also, when we get there, see if you can get me some paper or a journal or something. I need to start writing the capabilities of the blade down before they become 'lost' again."

"Ah, that is a wise decision. I will make sure you get whatever you need when we get to the Watchtower. We still have until the day after tomorrow until we leave though, you should use that time to rest and recover, and say goodbye to those you know here until you come back."

Right, with all the fuss, you'd almost forgotten you'd be leaving some people behind here. Reinhardt, your family, and the guard captain should probably know what's happened, and why you're leaving. You have the rest of today and tomorrow to go and speak with them or run any errands you need to before leaving.

It is currently noon. You decide to,

You decide you should probably go and break the news to your family first. They might not even know about what happened in the stadium between you and Andras, so you decide you should probably break the news to them now rather than later.

"Thank you Daniel. I think I'll go see my family today, they should probably know about what's going on first. Tomorrow I think I'll tell Reinhardt and the captain what's happening." The captain...man, you are not looking forward to that conversation. The captain you have ties, since his son married your sister, but that doesn't mean he's any easier on you than the others. In fact, it probably just makes him be more harsh on you since you're technically a relative of his now. Convincing him that you actually got chosen by a magic sword with a powerful angel sealed inside and that's why you not only missed your shift yesterday, but why you have to leave now on short notice, is going to be a very...interesting experience. Or at least it would be, but then an idea comes to you.

"Erika, think I could ask you a favor for tomorrow?"

Erika, who has been stuck in her own thoughts most of this time, jolts back to consciousness at the mention of her name. "Wa-huh? What? What do you need?"

"Listen, I need to go let my captain know about everything that's happened in the last few days, and he's been know to be a...very harsh boss, so if you would come with me and vouch for me when I tell him everything, I would appreciate it."

"Oh, is that all? Sure, I can help with that. Why do you sound so nervous though, you're just talking to your captain, right?"

'Just talking to your captain' you think mockingly. If only she knew what a harsh man Captain Marshall could be.
>>
>>38280401
"Don't worry about it, just come with me tomorrow."

She shrugs, at which point Daniel intercedes.

"You should probably let your family and captain know about what happened, including the part about Galadriel. Other than them though, I would suggest keeping things "under wraps" as people say. Not everyone needs to know that Galadriel has found a temporary champion, and some might not appreciate the idea of it as much as they should. Not everyone wants Galadriel to find a new champion."

Considering Galadriel finding a new champion usually means another crusade with the Forsaken Lands, you can't really blame them.

As you are about to leave, carrying a cane Arniel gave you to help you walk on your own, a thought occurs to you. Should you leave Galadriel here while you go say your goodbyes, or should you bring it with you? You know how to make it change shape now, so you could always make it look less conspicuous.

>Take Galadriel with you
>Leave Galadriel at Arniel's home

>>
>>38280449

>>38280474
She can turn into any kind of conventional weapon, from maces to daggers and from axes to bows with a quiver of magic arrows.
>>
>>38280474
yeah have her turn into a dagger and take her with us
>>
>>38280487

>>
>>38280412
>Take Galadriel with you
In the form of a dagger
>>
>>38280412
>>38280412
You grab Galadriel from where you had her sitting next to your bed, still in Halberd form. You did say you would stick together after all, and you don't know how literally she meant it when she said that. Besides, with your old sword gone, you need something to carry with you anyways, just in case.

"Hey, think you can change into a dagger? We need to keep the temporary champion buisness on the down low for now."

As you ask, Galadriel's form starts to take on a new shape, that of a plain dagger. Unlike the halberd or the sword, the dagger lacks all the normal gold sheen and engravings that it's other forms had, probably since you told her you needed to keep a low profile. Putting the dagger on your belt and using the walking stick Arniel gave you for support, you make your way back to your father's workshop, your old home.

When you arrive, it is early afternoon. The sign outside the family workshop, which doubles as a house, reads "Schmidt's Armory, for all your smithing needs." You don't see any smoke coming from the chimney, which means your father isn't busy with work right now. You make your way to the front door and rasp your knuckles against the door three times.

A large, well built man with black hair and a beard answers the door, your father. You see there is soot on his face and he is still wearing his apron, which means you caught him just after he finished working on something.

He smiles the moment he sees you after opening the door, and before you can stop him you're caught in a lung-crushing bear hug, one of his bad habits.

"Siegfried, son! I'm glad you're alright!" He lets you go, allowing you to breathe again. He notices the cane you are using for support, and raises an eyebrow. "Are you alright? I heard there was trouble at the stadium a few days ago when you were on duty, did something happen?"

"I'm fine dad." You tell him, only partially lying. "I need to talk to you and the others though. Can I come in."

"Of course son, of course! You are always welcome here, you know that. Come on in, have a seat. Your mother just finished cooking, so why don't you stay and have dinner with us, and you can tell us all about whatever it is you need to tell us."

Galadriel can try and copy a specific weapon's appearance that you've seen before, but it's not an exact replica. Anyone with an intimate knowledge with the weapon in question will notice a few differences between the original and Galadriel.
