It's a wonderful morning, a very warm and windy morning, but wonderful none the less. I smile and watch the clouds pass by as I kick my legs back and forth as I sit on a metal bench, watching the gardeners trim, water, and otherwise care for the various flowers and trees in the garden, Marcus standing close by me, holding his helmet under his arm as he takes a bite out of a big, red, and juicy apple.

I think it's almost time for me to get to my studies, not really sure though, since I don't really know when I woke up or for how long I've been blissfully spending in the garden. I sigh and get up from the bench, take a deep breath as I make sure to keep my dress from getting soiled with dirt.

Then again, missing one day of studying couldn't be all that bad, now could it?

What do I do?

"Marcus?' I ask as I walk down the stone path through the flowering hedges "didn't my father want to see me earlier?"

"Yes Mi'lady" Marcus says as he puts his helmet back on "though he did not tell me why"

"What do you think it could be?" I ask smiling as I stare up at Marcus.

"Well Amelia, I have no good idea what he could possibly want to tell you" Marcus says shrugging.

"Well, I'll go and see why he want he wanted to tell me, then" I say smiling as Marcus opens the door to the dinning room for me, bowing as I walk inside.

I walk out of the dining room, and up the stairs, turning into the hallway leading to my father's office. As I walk down it, I'm watched by the portraits of my ancestors, all looking Grim, serious and more than a bit grumpy.

I stop outside the large wooden door, and knock on it lightly.

"Come in Amelia" I hear my father sigh "Marcus, stay out side"

"As you wish sir" Marcus says sitting down in the hallway.

I turn the golden handle, shaped like a goose's head for some odd reason, and walk in. My father is sitting behind his desk, surrounded by papers, books, and pens, lots of pens.

"You have to at least try to get to places on time my dear" He sighs, rubbing his forehead.

"Sorry" I say as I take another slow step forward, expecting to be yelled at any second now "I kind of forgot"

"Don't worry, I'm not mad" My father sighs "besides you're also late for your studies, and I need to finish setting up for what I needed to tell you, so run along"

I bow and rush out of his room, Marcus stands back up and yawns as we walk out of the hallway and begin walking to where Miss Jasmine usually teaches me.

"So what did he say?" Marcus asks

"He said he'd tell me later" I say as I walk down another hall and to the door of the small room where I spend most of my studies in "Should I be worried, Marcus?"

"Probably" he says as he opens the door for me.

"New technology"? Well that sounds interesting, and I've always wondered how the wonderful devices I have actually work. I quickly flip to the page shown next to it, and see various complicated looking pictures and words I don't really know. I stare at it for a moment and a take a breath, before I try to start and read it.

"In the past few generations of humans, the progress of our combined technologies have increased vastly for the relatively short amount of time that has passed since"

Okay that bit is boring, so I'll just skip past it and see what else is here. Oh, that looks interesting.

"....for example, the contained box of winter, a wondrous little machine that contains all the cold as a brutal winter wind, but tamed and harmless to help preserve food for longer times than once thought possible, or the voice amplifying horn, which has lost it's use in battlefields and is now often used by protestors so for many miles can hear their petulant? complaining"

But...how do they work, I know what they do, but not how they do it. I scan the page and don't see anything that even begins to describe what makes them work. I sigh and quickly flip through the pages of the book.

"OOoooh" I gasp excitedly as I see "Breeds of Monsters, in big and large red letters on a page.

I stop and begin to read through it, smiling as I do so, feeling a bit too excited to be reading maybe, but this sounds really neat, so I think I am the perfect amount of excited.

"Monsters, the name humans use for everything that is not themselves, since they themselves are rather squishy and magicless. Now "Monsters" are in fact a near uncountable variety of races and species, But we shall list some of the ones you're likley to encounter as well as two from the land in the east"

Dragons? I've always wanted to see a dragon!. I begin to read, trying to ignore the beautiful drawn picture of a dragon in flight on the page, as well as the picture of all its organs.

"Dragons, the emperors of the sky and earth. Dragons are shaped like great lizards with wings larger than most castles built by man or monster. They themselves claim they're born of the stuff of elements, and have watched the world since its birth, however most think these claims mere bragging, as dragons can be killed, with great difficulty, and do breed. Though they are extremely powerful creatures, ruling over vast swathes of land, and holding a great understanding of magic, as well as having scales stronger than most mundane and some enchanted metals. They're scales are based on which magic they hold affinity over, and as a whole seem to subsist entirely the idea they're better than everyone else, though they spend most of their time sleeping and resting on their vast hordes, If you wish to learn more about the various types of dragons, please go to the "Great flying lizards" Chapter"

I begin to turn the pages when another thing catches my eye. Trolls? I stop and decided to read a bit on it.

"Ahh trolls, my kin. We're some of the largest monsters you'll meet in cities, though we prefer the woods and caves to your flimsy constructions, We're known for our regeneration, an ability that comes from a liver like organ that contains a vast amount of life magicks. However fire and acidic substance tend to disrupt the flow of magic healing. We're slouched, far larged than most other "Humanoid" races and are one of the ones able to mingle our blood with humans, have great tusks meant for tearing up the ground in search of food, as well as a cow like tail meant for keeping away pests, though you could tell all this by looking at the picture of myself on the page, now I shall go on length the explain our beliefs and...."

I turn a few pages and see a page filled with various colors with the words "Ooooze" scrawled on the top, and all the words written in various colors.

"Oozes, terrible little bastards they are, sadistic and cruel, they stand apart from all other races in that their form in malleable, which leaves them with out a heart as well most other organs, and in my own opinion, a soul. Even the non carnivorous ones seem to take great joy from drowning and or causing pain to their fellow sentient beings, often going so far as to lure them to their watery abodes before drowning them in their slippery grasps. They lure prey and victims by taking the shape of an attractive memember of their target's race, though they have no genders or reproductive need, some seem to prefer one gender to another, and they refused to answer why, calling me a dirty cow man and tossing mud at me laughing. Dwell with in bodies of water, especially ones polluted with magicks. Stay away from them if you can"

I turn and see a picture showing a man being drowned by two oozes, who look like they're laughing as they hold him down under the water. my heart falls as I read the words under the picture.

"They took my assistant from me"

I feel sick as I stare into the man's pleading eyes.I quickly change the page, almost tearing it as I do so I try to forget what I just saw.

Oni? what's an Oni. I look and see a picture of a humanish looking thing, with red skin and two horns pointing out of it's head, with a great black beard and smile on its face.

"Oni, a truly curious creature from the east, appear to be some kind of distant cousin to ogres, but far stranger. From what I can gather, all Onis are born male, but if they're horns are broken, they undergo a most fantastic metamorphism into females, and according to local legends, drinking their ground up horns gives you a portion of their power as well as command over the oni it used to belong to.
cont
>>
>>38274440
Fond of drink and battle, they seem as a whole to be a race of drunkards and brutes, having little to no care for art or science. They live in clans and tribes, holding a great deal of care for their own families and personal honor, as well as those who they consider friends. They also are known for consuming a portion of their slain foes and being extremely vengeful. However, in my short time in their lands, I spent most of my time in a drunken haze, so I will have to update my writings of them after my second trip to the eastern continent"

A bell rings and I jolt. Miss Jasmine sits up, her grey hair messy and disheveled.
She stares at me for a moment and smiles

"Good to see you don't need me to tell you to study" She giggles

"Sorry, I didn't want to wake you up, Miss Jasmine" I say "since you looked like you were having a very nice nap, and I didn't want to wake you from it"

"Oh do not worry child, I'll just have to try to stay awake next time" She chuckles as she walks out of the room "and thank you, I did have the most fantastic of dreams just then"

I smile and close my book

I put my book back onto my desk as I get up from it, and walk out of the very dull and plain room, out into the hallway, with the green carpets with pictures of dancing men and goblins, and various stuffed beasts lining the halls, staring out with dead empty eyes. I try not to look at them as I walk by them, since they always make me feel like I'm being watched by something or another, which is a really bad feeling to have no matter who you.

I walk into the main hall and see my father standing on the stairs, his hands behind his back, looking a solemn and grumpy as ever. He smiles slightly when he sees me and beckons me over to him.

I walk up the stairs and stand next to him.

"Now Amelia, as you well know, you're going to be a woman, soon, and women of our standing need to have handmaidens to help them with the mundane tasks that fall beneath them, like brushing their hair or getting dressed and other such frivolous things" He says "so today, you'll be choosing yours"

I look out on the gather crowd of girls around my age and bite my lip. How am I supposed to choose this, I mean I don't know any of these people except for my Cousin Merry, who I don't really like spending much time around since she doesn't talk much and doesn't seem to know what fun is. I look around, seeing their excited faces and hopeful eyes staring at me as they all try their best to look prim and proper.

I see a troll blooded girl trying to make herself look small, despite standing far taller than the rest of the girls, with her red hair flowing down towards her feet, her skin a ruddy greenish color that's covered in a very pink dress that's far less frilly than most of the ones the others are wearing.

I tear my eyes from her and see a girl slightly taller than me, pulling at her dress with a look of discomfort on her face. She's slightly tanned and has faded blond hair tied into messy looking braids around her freckled face.

I take my eyes off of her, feeling a bit sorry for her, since it looks like she tied her dress a little too tight when she got into it.

"So, my darling" My father says "which will you choose?"

I look back at the crowd and point at the girl with blond hair, causing the crowd to gasp and glare at her as she looks around confused for a few moments.

"Helga Fisher" My dad says "step forward please"

"um" She says as she strides forward, still battling with her dress as she does so "okay?"

"It would appear my daughter has chosen you to be her handmaiden, I am sure you're family will be overjoyed to hear their fortunes continue to soar" My dad says with an emotionless voice "the rest of you will be escorted back to your homes soon, but please feel free to enjoy the buffet we've prepared until then"

the rest of the girls bow and walk away mumbling, leaving Helga alone in the room, looking very out of place as she looks around nervously.

Helga looks around and scratches her cheek as she does so.

"Now if you'll excuse me, I have some trade agreements to look through" My father says walking back up the stairs and to his office. Leaving me, Marcus, and Helga alone.

I walk down the stairs and stop three feet away from Helga. She looks at me and grabs the sides of her dress, and attempts to curtsey, but forgets to put one foot in front of the other.

"Mi'lady?" She says slowly and nervously "what do ya want me...do you have need of me?"

"Not at this moment" I say smiling "oh and by the way, next time you put on a dress, make sure to leave a little space to breath"

"Oh thank you Lady Amelia" She says trying to curtsey again, but stops halfway through, looking irritated "I hope I don't uh, mess anything up to bad"

"Oh I'm sure you'll do fine Helga, I'm sure of it" I say "though I have noticed, you seem more of a commoner than a noble"

"How can you tell?" She asks tilting her head.

"Well for one you put your dress on much to tight" I say "and your hair is in a bit of a state"

" Well, I didn't have much time to get ready before my dad sent me here" She said "didn't even get to get any breakfast, Say is lunch anytime soon?"

"Well if you're hungry I could just ask the chefs to make you something to eat real quick" I say smiling

"No, no, there's no need I can wait, I didn't mean to complain it's just that... sorry, don't fire me please" she says

"Stop worrying, I'm not offended that easily" I say "so how did you exactly become a noble"

"Well my dad fished one of you out of the sea a month or two ago, and was given a bit of land and a title" She says "and ever since then I've been having to be trained like a "proper" Lady, Real pain in my ass"

I stare at her for a moment, and Helga covers her mouth, and curses under her breath.

"So what do you like?" I say trying to end the awkward silence

"Sailing, dogs, fresh air, anything that isn't this dress right now" She says

I nod

I walk down the hall, Helga following after me slowly, until I hear her mumble something and she catches up with me, carrying her shoes in her hands with a look of relief on her face. I walk down a hall made out of windows that goes through the gardens, to get to the library's tower.

Helga stops to look out the windows and at the Garden, specificially the stream running near the hall.

"Wow, how'd you get it to look this pretty?" She asks pressing her face against the glass.

"Our gardeners tend to it daily" I say "Also because they know where to put them to make them look even better than they normally do"

"It's so pretty, how long did it take to grow all of it?" she asks taking her face from the window

"I don't know, it's been around for as long as my family's ruled this city, so I don't know how long it took to grow" I say

"Wow" Helga says in awe.

"and that tower over there is the library" I say pointing at the nearby vine covered tower.

"What all of it?" she asks

"Yep, filled to the brim with books and journals" I say

"Who could need that many books?" She asks as I lead her out the windowed hallway, to the dinning room, and into the kitchen.

"And this is the kitchen" I say as I open the door, all the chefs and cooks bowing as the go about preparing lunch, quickly cleaning counters and trying to look busy.

"It's bigger than my old house" Helga says looking around, covering her nose with her dress.

"You must've had a small house" I say turning away and closing the door.

"It was big enough" She says quietly.

"And the armory is down that hallway" I say pointing at a door near the front one "I'm not allowed to go there"

"Because you'd steal a sword from it, Amelia" Marcus says

"He can talk?!" Helga shouts in surprise

"Yes he can talk" Marcus says chuckling "

"So, Helga, what do you think so far?" I ask "because you'll be spending a lot of time here now, so you should at least try to get used to it"

"It's amazing" She says looking up at the ceiling and the chandeliers hanging from it "I never thought I'd ever see anything like all this in my life"

She stares upwards for a moment, and furrows her brow.

"Um, where am I going to be sleepin?" She asks

"I...don't know" I say "Marcus, where's Helga's room going to be?"

"We haven't readied one for her" He says "But we have a surplus of guest rooms, so we could convert one for her to stay"

"Any near my room, by any chance?" I ask

"Four" Marcus says nodding "I'm guessing you'll want the one closet to yours?"

"Yes" I say nodding.

"Where is your room exactly?" Helga asks

"I'll show you later, it has a really nice view of the city, so yours should have one as well" I say

Helga smiles.

"Marcus, do you think we could get some training in before lunch?" I ask smiling as I walk back towards the library.

"We should be able to have a quick session" Marcus says "if we hurry"

"Training?" Helga asks

"Oh right, forgot you're new here" Marcus says "Our lady wants to be a night, so I've been training her in sword play on our free time"

"You want to be a night, Lady Amelia?" Helga asks giggling.

"it's funner than being stuck in a castle all day with nothing to do" I say frowning "and besides, it's not like it's doing any real harm"

"oh, well I' didn't think that you'd be the type, oh nevermind" helga sighs.

I smirk and walk into the garden, and go to one of the more remote areas, this one near a pond. Marcus carefully hands me a practicing sword, and draws one of his own. He stands in a fighting stance, one arm behind his back.

I hold my sword to my side and pretend to pull it out from a sheath.

"Stay back loyal squire" I say holding my arm out in front of Helga as I step forward "this one's a real nasty sort"

"Kreheheheheh" Marcus laughs tearing his helmet off, smiling dementedly as he licks the wooden blade he holds in his hands.

Helga stifles a laugh and I try to ignore it, pouting for a second before getting back into character.

"You're gold, Sir knight, or your life" Marcus says pointing his sword at me.

"I choose neither cur, but you shall pay with yours" I say "your life that is"

"COME ON THEN" Marcus shouts "KREHEHAHHAHAHAHA"

I run towards him and swing the sword down at his shoulder, he blocks it and stabs at me, I move to the side and stab forward, hitting his side. Marcus makes an over exaggerated cry of pain and swings at me again. I block the swing and hit him lightly on the shoulder. He grabs it and glares at me, swinging wildy. I duck down and drive my blade upwards. He falls to the ground laughing.

"Well, if a bandit ever comes at for you Mi'lady, I'd say you'd stand a very good chance of surviving the encounter" Marcus laughs

Helga begins to laugh.

"Why are you laughing?" I ask pouting as I stare at Helga's freckled face.

Helga stops laughing and smiles nervously.

"Sorry, it's just that I thought it was funny" She says "please forgive me, Mi'lady"

"Do you want to try?" I ask holding the sword out for her.

"Uh, what?" She ask "Um, is it okay for me to take this?"

"She's offering it to you, it'd be wise to take it, Fisher" Marcus says putting his helmet back on, covering his red hair and beard as he does so.

Helga grabs the wooden sword slowly and stares at it, turning it around in her hand to inspect it.

"If you want to" I say

"Well, I guess it couldn't hurt right?" She says smiling "I mean you seemed to be having fun"

"I'll try not to dirty her dress, Mi'lady" Marcus says twirling the mock sword around in his hand "Have at thee"

Helga slowly steps over to Marcus, and grabs her sword in both hands, swinging wildly at Marcus. he blocks her blow and takes a step back. She swings from the side, leaving her side exposed for Marcus to poke, causing her to yelp and clutch her side Marcus swings lightly, tapping her on the shoulder. She glares at him and swings at him again. He pushes the blade to the side with his and taps her on the forehead with the hilt.

She holds her forehead for a second, and shakes her head, before she tries to stab at Marcus. Marcus swings the blades down, Helga flinches and drops her sword. Which he picks up.

"I win" he says placing the wooden swords at both sides of her neck

"That's cheating" Helga pouts

"You dropped your sword, not me" Marcus laughs

"That was a dirty trick either way" Helga says frowning

"All is far in war as they say" Marcus says putting the blades back away.

Helga rubs her head, still frowning.

"Are you okay?" I ask her as she rubs her forhead.

"Y..yeah" She says "just a bit sore, nothing to worry about really"

"Are you sure?" I ask her "we can get the doctor if we need to"

"I'm fine, I'm fine, so please stop worrying about me, Mi'lady" she says smiling.

"Well, if you're sure" I say looking away from her "Do you want to see more of the garden?"

"DO I?!" She shouts suddenly, causing me to jump slightly "I mean...yes, I'd very much like that"

I walk to those creepy statues, the one's of my grandfather and the bat thing with the scary looking eyes, as well as a pig with one wing and a very human looking skull sticking out of it's head.

"Errgh, who put these here, they're a bit too creepy, you know, for the garden at least" Helga says

"My dad did, he likes stuff like this, I don't really know why, they're so out of place aren't they?" I say as I walk over to where the gazebo is, which the four statues of troll blooded women carrying away men on their shoulders.

"Oh, and what's this place for?" Helga asks

"I don't really know, but people like to sit under the gazebo during hot days" I say

"Yeah, that's not all they do under it" Marcus says chuckling.

"What do you....oh, well that's a bit disgusting" Helga says sticking her tongue out.

"I don't really understand" I say puffing my lips out slightly.

"I'll tell you what I meant later, Amelia" Marcus laughs as I walk over to the fountain near the gazebo, over a small stream and bridge.

It shows a winged creature spitting out water as it screams up towards the heaven, it looks pretty human, and also is made to looks like it's covered in wounds and scars, it's armor pitted and broken.

"Well it looks nice, I think?" Helga says shrugging, before jolting slightly as some nearby flowers begin to sing and chant happily.

"Don't worry, it's just the singing foolishes" I say pointing at the purple flowers dancing slightly in the wind, their petals moving like lips as the sing a wordless song that sounds a bit like a choir singing.

"Oh" helga says blushing. I smirk, I think I'll get along with her just fine.

I watch my little pawn smile at her own little pawn as some flowers sing like idiots nearby, I smile as I walk up the nearby wall and stare at the city, seeing a corpse of a mortal dragging a mortal into an alley way to beat it to death with the help of his little group of pawns, all screaming about the unfairness of the ruling class and how they mingle with monsters and beast, and that they are the one's deserving wealth and prosperity, and how all of them are just fools living their lives away on their backs, eating up their hard work and progress while they just get the straps.

I can smell violence in the air, what a wonderful smell to smell, I do so hope my pawn will weather through it.

Envy appears as the viewer themselves
Pride looks more angelical than demonic but has a second form that four wings, six hands, a snake like tongue, lions mane, and glowing orange eyes.

Greed looks like a mix between a mangy rat and a dragon
Wrath is a ball of fire and metal
