So, you're dying. This is an issue. There's also a cataclysmic entity thinking about parking in a neighbourhood. This is another issue. You might maybe deal with it, but you'll be fish food before it gets there. That's the last issue. Welcome to Dying Cape Quest!

*

"An idea?" I asked, but to be honest, I didn’t really care about what he said afterwards.

He had jumped out of bed and was pacing right in front of me, in the nude, while I was still feeling all tingly from our night. Sunrays were catching in on the fine blonde hair of his stomach, of his forearms, his chest, and my eyes were drawn downwards and, well. Logos, Amandej, did like to use natural motifs on our caped outings. Changing guns into butterflies, birds, or falling glass into leaves; growing trees...

Handsome, he was. Even if I didn’t -love- him, I was in the right frame of mind to convince myself that it would have been possible, that I should, that I would. Had I had the time.

So, I did have to make something of an effort to tear my eyes from the show to squint at his face so far above me, and replay in my head his feverish monologue.

"Wait, what do you mean by ‘heal me’?"

[Cont.]
>>
>>38268778
"Exactly that!" he said, and my heart felt like it missed two beats. Because I wanted to steal a kiss from him, and because I knew I had to say a ‘but’. I tried to sit up, and Amandej had to help me. He pulled one sheet to my shoulders then sat by my side on the bed, close.

"It... Won’t last. I mean, not even near long enough to matter," I said, and stopped myself from shaking my head. Didn’t want to break something that wasn’t already broken.

"When you’ll need to sleep, it will just come undone. Worse, maybe. You know it can come back worse."

He frowned and looked away, the memory of his failure the year past still all too fresh. The Three Gorges Dam, in pieces. Several tens of thousands of people, in the same.

"I’ll, uh... Tweak myself. To stop myself from sleeping."

I read somewhere you blinked whenever your thoughts stopped. Right then? Mine must have crashed into a wall over and over, and over.

>"I can’t even begin to qualify how bad an idea this is."
>"Are you asking me to marry you? Because you should. That’s at least two steps below than this!"
>"Uh, let’s not be hasty. Maybe if it’s really necessary and there is no other solution."

The headache was coming back. I was feeling so good only moments ago.

"I don't have the words to say how bad an idea this is," I said, trying hard to keep my voice level. Logos's frown deepened, but I had to say it. "Look, we barely know how any of our powers work. Even Manifold is at a loss about his own! And you want to go and modify your own brain to keep me alive?!"

"Look—"

I put up my hand to stop him. I had things to say, damnit!

"A-And it's a huge commitment! That's just like proposing, or something! It's, like..."

Augh. And the bastard smiled at that.

"I can do that. I know who you are, you know who I am," he said, before kneeling in front of me. "I don't have a ring..."

Then he picked up one of the unused condoms lying on the ground, and did something to it.

"Nevermind," he said with a sly smile.

"No, look, no, just no, what the hell, it's a condom, and no, I'm not letting you put yourself at risk for my sake!"

The condom became a condom again (no way we'd use that one ever), and Amandej took me in a one-armed hug, way too naked and close for me not to blush from every surface available. He kissed me on the forehead, on the neck, on the ear, brushing the soft part of his beard against my skin. Calming me.

"Look, let's ask Manifold what he thinks about it before deciding anything."

I nodded. I only said goodbye to my parents three hours later. Pops' expression was unreadable, Mom's was knowing. Good thing the mental blocks would reassert themselves after we left.

*

"I have no idea."

Manifold was uncharacteriscally useless these days. Logos looked at me.

>"Fine, heal me."
>"Better only me than us two."

I like Logos. He's like a charming version of Doctor Manhattan with a little bit of Tony Stark thrown in.
>>38269613
>>38269613
I usually don't much like half/cop-out/playing it safe answers, but this seems pretty IC. Let's do it.
>>
>>38269547
I think we still have a day or two to consider the best plan of action. If nothing works we should risk it.

Say, would the following plan be somewhat feasible:
1) Remove the tumor.
2) Immediately use the healing miracle to keep her alive.
3) *Very* slowly recede the healing magic, so that there is a small wound.
4) Let this small wound heal naturally.
5) repeat steps 3+4 until full regeneration or whatever is achieved.
>>
>>38269719
Logos can heal Sekhmet no problem, the only problem is staying awake long enough for it to matter.

(This is something she knows, so it's fine to tell you guys.)
>>
>>38269613
>>38269634
>>38269714
Writing, then.
>>
>>38269767
I'm vibrating with anticipation.
>>
>>38269746
I thought the healing would revert once he sleeps? Which is why I want the brain to gradually turn back into natural matter, so he only has to stay awake for I dunno months or so instead of forever.

(Depending on crazy science I’m hoping for an even shorter period of time.)
>>
>>38269888
If he removes the tumor, she's virtually healed. The problem of brain cancer comes mainly from the added pressure the tumor puts in the cranium, plus all the other stuff. If he sleeps, the tumor simply comes back. Maybe worse.

RESEARCH, OH!

You won't defeat my railroading to a decision!
>>
>>38269952
This pressure... can it be?! The Shadow Master's Hand should have died with him, and yet I've never seen rails this powerful since he was buried!!
>>
>>38269952
I still feel like you are talking about something else then I am asking about /talking about.

>>38269719
The tumor cannot come back because it is physically removed. Powers are only used to do this smoothly.

The core idea is to turn the "virtually healed" brain into an "actually, permanently healed" brain.

This is accomplished by letting it gradually regenerate within the healing capacity of the human body, using powers to 'stretch' the strain of having a hole in it over time.

(This plan is supposed to be a slight improvement on Logos’ plan.)
>>
"Manifold, how about you take some time to think it over? Run some tests?" I asked, not meeting Logos's eyes.

"I already did."

"I—What?"

"I do my thinking in multiple virtual parallel worlds. Some are faster than this one. I already did the tests."

I strained against the arm of the wheelchair. Didn't even bend it a little.

"Virtual ones. They're not real. That's the freaking d-definition of the word."

"How many times have I been wrong? This is a rhetorical question," he said, flatly.

"Just fu—Just do it."

*

I deteriorated fast. The first day, I went blind. Logos told me Manifold was almost undistinguishable in the blue blur his 'doubles' left. He didn't ask me to say yes.

The second day was worse. He had to change me. Like a baby.

*

"Manifold?" asked Logos. I could hear the strain in his voice.

"I do not know what will happen if you tweak yourself. Powers are...weird. But at least, I've collated information about how to proceed. This is as ready as we are going to be, if you choose to do it."

I felt both their stares on me.

>"Alright."
>"No. No, no, no."
>>
>>38270254
>>"Alright."
An attempt needs to be made. Let’s make sure plans are in place to knock out Logos if it doesn’t work out but Logos can’t let go.

I chased the Sun. Trying to keep it roughly above the horizon, for an everlasting dawn. Every time a city came into view, I went for glory, low and blazing. Probably not very good for air travel, but I wasn't thinking right then.

I kept at it.

I hadn't realized how much I had been diminished.

Logos hadn't needed to push me very hard for me not to stay around. I let my flight burn away the anxiety, until it didn't.

*

"How are you feeling?"

"Still fine. I guess you were right in asking Manifold to study a bit more. I don't really feel tired, I'm more powerful than ever, and as an added benefit, I can watch you sleep all night."

"This is so sweet. And slightly creepy."

He laughed, and I honked him down there.

"So, how did the meeting go? Sorry I wasn't there. You know how it is, crime to fight and all."

"You're not sorry at all. Well, Warlord was glaring daggers at me the whole time, I don't know why. And, even if I tried my best to be reassuring, I'm not sure I managed to do it at all. Shaman bis, with the Sun Goddess as a girlfriend, y'know... The suits are scared."

"They should be scared of the Earth-ending cataclysm headed our way."

He shrugged, and brushed my cheek. I leaned in his hand. It's funny how fast those little routines become ritual.

"So, what are you planning to do until we head headfirst into the fight with Death?"

>"As I said, crime to fight."
>"A honeymoon sounds nice."

"A honeymoon sounds nice."

"It kind of implies a wedding taking place, you know."

"Yeah," I said. "It does."

"I me—Oh, ah, right. Yes, okay. I see."

*

"What did he say?" I asked. But I already knew by the look of defeat on his face.

"Ha... Warlord isn't going to be my best man. I'll ask Manifold, then."

"Really? Why? Did he give you a reason?"

Logos looked at me, and ruffled my hair before grinning. "Sorry, us men have to be a bit secretive sometimes."

I rolled my eyes.

*

"No, you're not going to do that," I said, keeping my voice stern.

"Oh come on, I even changed my hair and beard!"

"Everybody will know it's you, and I don't want to have a religious war over a stupid prank during my honeymoon! You're not going to walk on water at Lourdes disguised as Jesus Christ! And give me that bottle!"

"Tch, you're no fun."

*

We looked at the Earth rising from Mons Huygens. I took some photos to show my family.

*

It was morning, in a desert island somewhere in the Pacific Ocean. The cabin creaked, the waves washed, and the birds chirped. I had chosen the location, Amandej had "built" the shack. I could smell eggs and the sea.

"I opened the windows to let some fresh air in. I had a little walk while you were sleeping... It was getting, ah, pungent inside."

I did the funny eyebrow thing that he liked, but his smile didn't reach his eyes. He waited until we were finished with our breakfast to give me the news.

"Honeymoon's over, sweetie. It's here."

I dabbed at the corners of my mouth while our little home turned back into the sand it was. I shook some grains from between my fingers, and Logos clothed us both with our costumes.

"Well then, let's go save the world."

So how bad is it going to get?
If Logos dies do we die soon after of complications/broken heart/brain too?

Yup. You're in pretty good shape. Back to full Sun Goddess potential.

Is it bad if the first thing I wanted to say was "He's very horny, but maybe it's the honeymoon effect"?

No, and asking for a little bit more time for Manifold to study shit was the right call.

Not really. Honeymooners are supposed to fuck like rabbits, are they not?

Fuck yeah!
