/tg/ - Traditional Games

Disney Villains Victorious is a /tg/ homebrew project based on the idea of a world, not entirely unlike our own, in which all the villains from all the Disney animated feature films were not defeated at the ends of their movies but were instead victorious, completing their goals in part or in whole.

It is a world in which Ursula rules the seas, defied only by the uncatchable Pirate Lords, the cutthroat merchants of the East India Trading Company and the might of Atlantis and its magitech-toting mercenaries. It is a world where the grasslands and jungles and forests are prowled not only by fearsome primal beasts like Shere Kahn and Scar but also by the ruthless, tireless hunters that stalk them. It is a world where Europe has been divvied up between evil sorcerous monarchs like Maleficent, the Horned King, Grimhilde and Jafar, mad, inquisitorial clergymen like Frollo, and Dark Gods like Hades and Chernobog.

It is not, however, a world completely devoid of courage, heroism or hope. Around the world, the PCs' characters and their allies plot and plan, fight and strive and win their own victories against the villains that would rule them. The time to fight and to be free is now.

Disney Villains Victorious is a /tg/ homebrew project based on the idea of a world, not entirely unlike our own, in which all the villains from all the Disney animated feature films were not defeated at the ends of their movies but were instead victorious, completing their goals in part or in whole.

It is an America in which Syndrome’s robot army rules the Rocky Mountains, defied only by the mysterious and brooding Yokai of San Fransokyo and the Californian Coast, the Horrors of the Gravity Falls Triangle in Oregon and Washington and the might of Dr. Heinz Doofenshmirtz in his strongholds in Utah, Wyoming, and Colorado. It is an America where the grasslands and oilfields of Oklahoma and Texas are run by the scheming Shego through her Drakktech corporation, it’s harsh but individualistic meritocracy strongly at odds with the hive mind of DOR-15 Inc which runs the rest of the South. It is an America where the free spirits of Motorcity routinely delve into the Buy and Large Wastelands, and from afar David Xanatos watches from his Orwellian headquarters in New York City.

It is not, however, a world completely devoid of courage, heroism or hope. Throughout the ruins of America the PCs' characters and their allies plot and plan, fight and strive and win their own victories against the villains that would rule them. This is Gridlocked.

We kinda already have an "ultimate chimera" villain. Izma's encounter is more about potion slinging and mad science.

Been reading through 1d4chan and am rather interested. Is taking down the various King's through strength, cunning and possibly flashy musical numbers the driving objective of this world for the PC's or are they simply part of the setting and a backdrop to the heroes following more personal goals which may or may not involve freeing/overthrowing one of them and their nation.

Repostan' old drawfaggotry to help Nob work at the pdf.

Dear me, I miss that drawfag.
>>
>>38247601
The main idea is that the PCs are trying to free the world from the villain's grip one territory at a time, possibly culminating in a final confrontation with Tchernabog, but every PC also has a set of personal goals he's trying to complete. Also, people have thrown around multiple times the idea of an expansion focused on more morally ambiguous characters trying to make a place for themselves in the political landscape.
>>
>>38247696
>Tchernabog
Why does everybody put a T in front of his name? Is that the new thing?
>>
>>38247696
No Rest For The Wicked was the name, I believe, with the general theme being that the players want to set up their own domains, but almost all land is taken so what is there to do but overthrow a King?

>>38246594
Is it now? Are we still going to make it a PDF or is my job irrelevant?

One small mistake -- We don't actually have El Dorado in the game anymore.

There's a lot of formatting that needs to be done here still -- generally you want a two or three page introduction to the setting, maybe a piece of fiction or a song or something, and then you want to jump right into very basic game concepts and character creation.
Then, you want to do the general rules of the game, etc. Then setting, then the GM's section and bestiary.
>>
>>38247797
Well I gather it is because you DO NOT SAY HIS NAME on pain of unfortunate circumstances befalling you.
>>
>>38247797
Don't know. You're not supposed to speak his name, though. Some silly variation of his name is best -- Cherrybomb, Churn-n-Whirl, Chernobyl, etc.
>>
>>38247798
Google Docs can be downloaded as PDFs, but that's not always the best solution. As it is, there's still a lot of refining that'll need to be done as well.
>>
>>38247798

We're keeping El Dorado. We need someone for MesoAmerica. That said, we're also making a DreamWorks expansion.
>>
>>38248878
Yes, Ideally you should start with small fries like Alameda Slim or Ratcliffe, then go up the power ladder to the powerhouses like Jafar or Hades. Or alternatively you could start with the kings more easily "converted" without violence like Elsa or Rourke.
>>
>>38249011
From what you're describing it sounds like we're mixing Game of Thrones with the Disney franchise, I'm not sure if that's going to be a good mix but hey, that's my opinion.

Say I was playing a boisterous big chap of a wannabe knight filled with the desire for spreading goodness, defending the weak and engaging in jolly cooperation who would make a good comedic supporting character in any animated fairy tale and muscle in any adventuring party.

Now, when I get to the equipment part of the character creation progress I could just go for a great sword +3 and some medium knightly armour but that seems a little too plain and gamey.
Say I were to instead get a simple Sword +1 (1 point), rusted and worn but still stern and unyielding in the defence of the innocent, and keep the medium armour (2 points), battered and aged though it might be it comes with a knightly helm the visor of which can be shoved up whenever dialogue scenes occur before clanging down so he can charge into the fray in all his roughshod chivalry splendor... that leaves two points to spend, possibly to spend on something more characterful.
Do you just make up any sort of personal item, or pair of items possibly, and then spend points on them on a one for one basis to give relevant stat bonuses?

Is there some way that governs gaining new equipment, it doesn't seem to be bound to leveling so I suppose it just happens whenever it seems suitable by the GM and the actions of the player?
>>
>>38250359
Gaining new equipment can happen either by picking it up or purchasing it with a local currency decided by the GM.
>>
>>38250428
Alrighty then, what about the other questions regarding starting equipment, was that all exactly how it is?
>>
>>38250902
Yes, you can spend your +1s or +2s on whatever you want so long as you can explain how it helps you with the task. Generally speaking an item should not give you a bonus to more than one skillat a time, at least starting items.
>>
>>38250902
That's about right, yeah.

>>Any fear-based attacks from monstrous creatures such as ogres, giants or dragons are reduced by one strike.

>>Powers
>>Charge of the Light Brigade
>>When charging into odds that are certain death, or at least near-certain death, you may spend a will point. Gain a +5 bonus to all rolls for the next scene as long as your life is in danger.

>>Equipment

>>Old Knightly Armour (medium, give a +2 to Withstand against physical attacks, but also decrease Speed by 4 meters)

>>Dull Locket (personal memento, give a +1 to Endure while in his possession)

>>Ideals
>>Defend the Innocent
>>Aid the weak

So >>38250359 this is the mechanical part of the character creation, still working on the plot and story info of this strapping young chap who wants to live up to ideals of being a shining knight who stands against the darkness and protects the oppressed.
Nothing seems out of place statwise for a starting character?
Also was trying to focus on taking things that would make sense for his backstory and abilities but fear it might have left him 'too good' at certain tasks, having him be inadvertently optimized.
>>
>>38252726
Stats and skills calculation is alright. You can also choose a second powernot from your class list. Invent it if you wish. And there is no crime in focusing your character on a few skills
>>
>>38252726
Remember also your three goals, that's how you tier up.
>>
>>38252977
Thank you kind sir, will get to work on thinking up a second power.

>>38253115
Indeed but I fear that will be a more difficult undertaking than the rest of it.
>>
>>38253219
There are some example powers in the OP. Just remember some of the pastebins are outdated.
>>
>>38253277
>>Protector
>>If an ally has suffered a combat Strike in a battle, you can choose to defend and fight alongside that character. Both characters gain +4 to combat while fighting together

This one sounds rather fitting, might rename it to 'Defender'.
Could be is there any simple change made to this Power to instead improve the other characters survival without giving mine a combat buff that would not be unbalanced?
>>
>>38253488
As the rules themselves say Powers should be, well, powerful and only really balanced against the rest of the party's powers.
>>
>>38253488
+4 is too much anyway. How about this:

>Defender: If an ally has suffered a Strike in battle, you may chose to defend and fight alongside them. The defended character gains +2 Prevent Harm while you are protecting them from danger.
>>
>>38253642
What about Charge of the Light Brigade giving me +5 to all rolls in a scene as long as my life is in danger?
That might be balanced by it only applying against far superior threats I'm guessing.

I would gladly take the +2 to Prevent Harm for the protectee, its very in-character ability, but there might be more to think about relating to what >>38253630 mentioned
Maybe it should be slightly more since the original overpowered ability was giving +4 points for BOTH characters
Or is this power something passive and doesn't require spending a will point since it doesn't mention one?

So for example this defensive version perhaps giving the protectee alone a +4 to Prevent Harm or giving all nearby allies in the fight who have taken damage something like a 1 or 2 to the skill.
>>
>>38254059
I'm not sure. Whatever works for your group is fine. A single person getting the PH bonus or a whole group of close combatants is workable. How about giving nearby allies your Prevent Harm score when you are close?
>>
>>38254266
All nearby allies replace their Prevent Harm score with mine if it is higher? Thats pretty good and more unique.
Would just mean I'd need to put points into maxing it out whenever possible to really serve as the shield of my comrades.

Thanks for helping me with thinking up the Defender power.

Of course the majority of them bought it when their villain won but which ones managed to flee in disgrace or were 'only' horribly enslaved.
>>
>>38263442
For most of them it's up to the DM, that's why we have arumor mill section where you have various options about their fate, but some ideas are more accepted than others in the thread. For example Mulan as vengeful immortal revenant aided by the spirits of her ancestor, Arthur, Taron and maybe Robin Hood leading the english resistance, Bianca and Bernie still working with the reformed R.A.T.S (Rescue And Truth Society) and Christopher Robin held as a "guest" at Kaa's court.

Is there any specific reason the forces of the cauldron don't control the Scottish Highlands? Is Mor'Du simply too hardcore? Don't get me wrong I'm all for it since I'm using their conflicting borders as a loophole for my character's backstory.
>>
>>38269522
Yes, he's that hardcore. No amount of cauldronborn can kill him and the Horned King is too busy trying to get a foothold on the mainland to do it personally, so he just said "Fuck this, if the bear wants Scotland he can keep it". >Reckless dashing swashbuckler from Virginia tries to bullshit him into not attacking outright, but the unflappable english hunter convinced Slim is a wizard (long story) immediately shoots with his elephant gun
>Nick (swashbuckler) dives in thetall grass and attempts to stealthly climb on the beast's back, but is discovered and takes first blood. Slim also uses his yodeling to drive his men onwards
>Mutated shaman/scientist from Izma's domain manages to free the brontosaurus from Slim's control, Archer (the hunter) knocks him off with an aimed shot and takes his place on top of the beast
>Anthony (blind, slightly crazy catholic priest) tries to shoot the cannon strapped to the back of our gigantic black boar Boris and with and accidentally hits one of the Willies, sending him flying. Then he and the Indian princess traveling with us intimidate/shame the rest of Slim's flunkies into surrendering
>Nick and Boris jump on Slim and start pummeling him into submission, but he jumps on a cow and starts riding away while laying down a verbal smackdown
>First shaman hits him with a mutagenic potion, a molotov cocktail and a shot from a stolen atlantean lighting gun, then hunter has his new mount pick him up with its mouth and smash him down
>after a little more combat Slim manages to socially defeat Nick and Archer, but then Dances with Llamas gives him the (verbal) coup de grace and Boris hurls him over a cliff
>As he falls he screams "I'll get you yet, you'll seeeeeeee!" Obviously there's no trace of him when we look below.

I'm not saying go off and get to work on this right this very second, just pointing it out to you.
>>
>>38298319
I wouldn't say we stopped at Disney, considering El Dorado is in Classic. We're also doing expansions for Don Bluth and other Dreamworks films. The problem with wanting to do everything is that you begin to lose focus and some people begin putting in things that don't belong.

I would say that I'm a raging hypocrite with the latter, but Villains don't count towards the canon.

Random question but if you were just some person living in the DVV world which realm would you rather want to live in?

Rourke's Atlantis seems like it would be one of the more comfortable to survive in, as long as you weren't trying to cause problems for the man in charge you could get by and live a normal life.

Megamind isn't really a bad guy and Tighten would be both boring and ridiculously powerful as an antagonist.

>>38356589
Tai Lung would be a good combat villain, with that paralyzer special attack and his general kung fu excellency.

Speaking of baddies is it true Lady Tremaine from the Cinderella movie got magic at some point.
I only just learned that supposedly the Disney Cinderella movie had sequels and that her evil stepmother acquires magical powers and tries to use them to ruin Cindy's happy ever after.
Seems like that would be enough to make Lady Tremaine a decent underling of a Disney villain King, sort of like how Mother Gothel works for Queen Grimhilde?

You know, I was just wondering. I know we can use any stat to defend or attack depending on what we are doing (Using charm with a sword to impress people with your mad skills for example), but does that also apply to intimidation?

I'm here trying to figure out how a character would defend itself from intimidation attacks and I'm coming up with a blank
>>
>>38372876
The Endure skill is used to protect against social attacks, so any appropriate Attribute + Endure will do.

Also, you would still use Agility or Robustness with Melee. You can't wield a sword with words and personality.
>>
>>38373005
Unless you're Elan
>>
>>38373005
But Charm+Melee or Agility+Intimidation to impress an opponent with a flourish is totally legit.

>>38372876
Intimidation could in theory work with any stat: Strength for physical intimidation, Intelligence for scary big words, Charm for classic trash talk, Sensibility to subtly insinuate or Agility as said above.
>>
Made a PC who is very much a classic Disney female except a tad more agile and outdoorsy, she would be a girl from a simple village that spent her spare time wandering in the woods, climbing trees and making friends with animals, wishing to see the great wide world. Not sure which country I should have her hailing from though.

Name: Yamato Crab
Role: Robust Villain
Battleship Class Hermit Crab
Country of Origin: All Oceans (Japan)
Size: Giant Enemy
Species: Humongous Antagonistic Crustacean

---Attributes---
Robustness: 25
Agility: 15
Intelligence: 5
Sensibility: 15
Charm: 5
Will: 8
Strikes: 10+3x

---Skills---
Ranged: 15
Brawl: 15
Prevent Harm: 15
Endure: 15
Stealth: 10
Deceive: 10
Intimidate: 10
Mechanics: 10
Travel: 10
Driving: 15
Insight: 15
Craft: 10

---Traits---
Swims Like a Boat: The Yamato Crab may use Driving in the place of Athletics or Acrobatics.
That’s No Ship: The Yamato Crab may only use Deceive to disguise itself as a wrecked ship, but may add it’s Stealth to the roll when it does so.
Sea Creature: Doubled Movement Speed in the water. 1/4 Movement Speed on land.
Defense Weapon: +3 to combat rolls when defending itself from an attack in it’s own territory (All Oceans).
Weak Point: If an attack ever reaches the Yamato Crab’s weak points (it’s head or exposed limbs), the Strikes dealt are doubled. If you are aiming for these weak points, you must take your roll at a -5 penalty for the called shot.

---Powers---
Open Fire!: Spend a Will Point. The Yamato Crab fires a volley of explosives at a single target, rolling Robustness + Ranged for damage (as opposed to the regular Agility + Ranged).
Death Charge: Spend a Will Point. The Yamato Crab unloads explosives that are a death sentence to submarines. Must be avoided with a Drive check of 30, or all passengers of the ship must roll Prevent Harm of the same. Failing the Prevent Harm check causes a loss of a Strike.
Release the Crabs of War: Spend a Will Point. 4d6x10 Crustacean Mooks swarm out of the Yamato Crab’s shell. Though weak individually, they add to the TN to an Agility Test by +1 for every 20 Crabs attached to your vehicle. They must be shaken off with Driving TN25 + Crabs of War.
>>
>>38396709
--Equipment---
Yamato Shell: A giant wrecked battleship that is being used as the shell of the Yamato Crab. +15 Prevent Harm against outside attacks. Does not protect limbs or head.
Crabby Crew: The Yamato Crab is ‘manned’ by an immeasurable number of smaller (Miniscule to Small) crustaceans. The Crabby Crew may take an action (treated as the Yamato Crab’s action) to generate Artillery with Craft TN25. If the Yamato Crab has lost less than half of it’s Strikes, the Crabby Crew can restore 1 Strike per with Mechanics Test of TN25.

---Rundown---
Ursula’s answer to Atlantean submarines. Once a regular spider crab, the Yamato Crab was changed by Ursula into a sea monster occupying the hull of a massive battleship. It hides near the shores of Japan, ready to tear apart any vessel that gets too close to the ocean. It is filled to the brim with tiny crabs that control the weapons systems of the ship. The scariest part about the creature is it’s intelligence: Despite being a colony of minds, the Yamato Crab and the Crabby Crew are as smart as a sack of potatoes. Clever or not, the Yamato Crab is a terrifying enemy that should not be taken lightly.
>>

There's a few errors. The Cute Bow doesn't supply any Ranged bonus, which should be +1 if you want to keep to the Equipment max of +5. I'm also not a fan of the 'Fairest of Them All' trait because of it's high bonus and vague penalty. Lastly, you need to figure out what 'Friend To All Living Things' does and what your second power would be.

Boxtrolls: a foundling is raised by a clan of underground scavengenger trolls who have a knack for technology and wear boxes for some reason.

Kubo: upcoming movie based on japanesefolktales. A young boy lives in a sleepy fishermen village with his sick mother when SUDDENLY SPIRITS and now he must travel the land sarching for his father's armor.

Coraline: Spunky girl moves into an old house with fellow boarders. Her surroundings are kinda crummy - her parents have lost the spark of life they once had and the boarders are similarly once-was's. The proposed expansions so far, if we ever get past the first one:

Things I ain't Even Tried: Magic for PCs

Gridlocked: Modern/near future stuff, mostly Pixar and Disney TV animated series

Third Star to The Right/To Infinity and Beyond!: space and far future

Bad Bluth and Twisted Dreams: Non-Disney stuff

Twisted Toons/Time to Light the Lights: toons and muppets

No Rest for The Wicked: More Villain stuff, playing a minor badguy

Under The Sea/A Pirate's Life: Adventures over and under the seven seas

Everybody Wants to be a Cat: more beasts stuff

Well it doesn't fit. Okay then, so we can still have keyblades though? So we can reference Kingdom Hearts, but we can't outright use it. Very well. I understand because allot of things change from the cannon due to Sora's fuckery, I have thought of one way for him to fit is that Sora showed up after the villains won and killed the heros, and only fought them after, although he vanished one day. However I'm not sure if this would even make a expansion so I dropped it, however I do have a idea that you maybe can get a keyblade if you perform a specific set of goals, that is decided by the dm. But as for main cannon, I had a idea that you can play as a villain.

You probably could play as a villain, but it screws with other stuff

I mean a player character as a villain, not a preset villain like maleficent. You just want a throne in power and just don't give a shit about yensid or being a hero.

I think by "playing a minor bad guy" they mean rules for climbing the ranks and managing your slice of territory and things like that.

I'm looking through the 1d4chan page.

Which Disney story is Al-Bahdros from?

No story, just like the gipsy pirate is he was invented in the thread because we needed minor pirate lords and couldn't find any in the disney canon.

Come on people, four more posts and we can archive this thread.

I like the sound of the Under the Sea expansion, since one of the major villains rules the seas its an important area to flesh out.
