Max ignored the thought for now.

He already casted his own spell, "Death", and he felt a surge of mana leaving his body but there seems to be no effect against the Poly.

Instead, the Poly grown out some slimy tentacles in it's back and sent them out towards the Overlord.

About five tentacles was furiously going in it's own path from each side, but was still aimed straight at Max.

Max saw the approaching limbs and quickly sidestepped out of the way.

Some tentacles went a bit too high for their mark.
One even struck right in the ground in front of Max.
While, he did dodge most, one tentacle skimmed the Lich's ribs.

"Fuck," said Max as he grunted.

There was no pain, but he heard the many small shards of bone flying off and now his balance was off too.

"Goddess of White. Bind my enemies. White Imprisonment!"

Just like how the spell book mentioned, a white chain flew right off Max's palm and entangled it's target.

The chain managed to hold 3 tentacles in place, however, the Poly just quickly grew 3 more.

"Overlord of Max, you know how to use white magic?" said with a tint of surprise in the changeling's voice.

Max nodded back,"I'm full of surprises actually."

"Is that so? Then I shall become a little more wary."

The Poly then ran towards Max while the tentacles proceeded to attack again.

The 3 chained tentacles seemed to be slowing the Poly down, however.

Any overlord is going to be outperformed by his pillars Physically, and magically. They only reason they rule is because they are the only one able to coordinate the monsters capably. They are the only ones with strong enough mind magic to guide a rule. They have no other types of magic offensive or defensive and they are frail as all hell.

Max proceeded to dodge again.

This time, however, it was much easier to get away from the tentacle's paths.

A lot easier, in fact, it was like the first series of dodge was all Max needed to read the Poly.

'Strange, it's like he's using the same attacks ---' Then the realization came to Max.

Poly just used the same movements from the first time. Just like how video game's bosses programmed a limited amount of movements.

The 6 feet, white wall plopped right in front of Max, blocking the Poly's charge.

We haven't really received any information confirming or denying either case, but I'm just assuming that the overlords sometimes have to be stronger than the pillars.
First, always the toughest of liches get the position, because weak ones can't get it, or get killed in owning it.
Second, what keeps a stronger monster to just use a lich skull as communication device an reign supreme? I'm thinking of Lixiver in particular

The long chant was interrupted by a large crashing sound.

Turning his head, Max saw his White Wall in crumbles and a giant dragon, that fills up almost the entire room, rushing out in a incredible pace.

All the items and the room started breaking apart as the dragon heads towards Max and Poly#2.

Max dropped his mouth and stood in place, but a slight shove barely moved him out of the way.

A slight whisper filled Max's ear.

"Overlord. Live on."

Max turns towards the Poly#2, but the dragon's mouth chomped half of the changeling's body.

The dragon, however, still couldn't stop moving and instead went through the walls head-on and created a giant hole.

The wind generated from the monster's movement also blew Max, the other half of Poly's body, and some items out of the hole.

Some of flying debris even damaged the frail, skeleton body. He felt something in his left-arm being ripped off, too.

In a few seconds, Max flew out his castle and was falling from an incredible height.

The Lich could see the dragon circling above high in the sky.

'Is this also an attack pattern...'

Then the dragon dived straight down with it's mouth open, just wide enough to gulp Max whole and more.

'I don't think I can live through this.' Finally, fear crawled it's way to the Lich's mind.

There was no visible effect, but Max knew the spell worked, he can feel a cooldown timer in his head.

The ground started coming closer and closer. Max could almost feel the splat in the next 30 seconds.

And the dragon is still up there in the air with it's mouth open, but it does look like it's going much slower.

Quickly, Max thought of an image of a wall being used as a ramp.

An overstretched, diagonal wall formed right below the skeleton as he used it as a ramp.

However, the force generated from the fall was still too much.

As the skeleton rolled down, plenty of bones started flying off. Max also noticed that his left arm was already ripped off, too.

After a couple of seconds, Max finally plopped to the ground.

'This... this would have been bad if I was still human.'

The injury produced from the battle so far was pretty grave. Both arms were gone, half of his left leg shattered, and many of his ribs were missing too.

'No, this is still bad.'

Max lied down on the ground with most of his body parts gone. A sense of tiredness started filling the Overlord's mind.

However, it wasn't sleepiness that was coming to him.

"A-am I d-dying?"

The obvious decision right now was to cast Blue Heal, but the tiredness wanted Max to stay still for a short while.

Shortly, the dragon quickly landed next to Max.

The dragon opens it's mouth and drops it only slightly above Max's body. The Poly was just waiting for Pacify to end.

Like it was already prepared and there's no need for a chant.

Since the Lich was armless, Max instead started sending the power through his mouth.

Sensing the danger, the dragon quickly tried to bite the Lich.

As Poly was almost finishing his lunch, a shout came out from the skull.

Okay, so that means that there actually is a group of spells that comprise mind-magic, that liches can use, that lets liches control monsters.

Aside from every monster automatically knowing when we are challenged to a duel, the fact that we don't have the mind-magic to be an Overlord is enough reason for the Pillars to overthrow us.

Calling for their help would have apparently been a very bad idea.

I would imagine health drain and health transfer are quite similar. Though the spell we would use would be a bit different maybe something like a vampire drain spell considering were undead...we'll likely need a special subset of the spell.

One taking the health of others and the other transferring your own to someone else.

The old monster though uses a seemingly high level black magic spell as its full blown life transfer not just health but your very life force gets used up in the process.

A nasty little spell but one that is capable of healing even the undead.

I was actually using that as an example of the many, many difficulties we will face logistically building a kingdom. Let's say we want to build a castle. To start with we would have to have monsters cut and shape the stones required, then move them to the site. Then we would need to be sufficiently organized to construct a coherent structure, as well as the scaffolding and supporting structures involved. On top of that we need to find a means of feeding everyone involved in construction, as they are engaged in physically demanding labor instead of kicking back and occasionally hunting something to eat, which is how I imagine most monsters live. All of these actions would likely have to be performed simultaneously.

If we're going to build anything, we're going to need a lot more than 7 monsters trying to call all the shots over a disorganized mob.

Just had a thought, so if the Poly we destroyed was only 1/10 of the whole, and the rest was either Poly #2 or what Poly #1 used to restrain Poly #2, then could new Poly use part of himself to replace the limbs Max lost? That way we'd have limbs and be able to repair ourselves without killing the last of the Black Mana healers, Poly could regen what was lost, and Max could morph parts of himself (unless they'd still be "part" of Poly and he'd need to make the parts change instead of binding them to Max's will or whatever)

The Lich is now back to his throne room.

Max is currently sitting down on his throne with the pillars next to him.

Also, his body is completely healed up, but Sreleah had to rush in and heal his injuries. When Max casted Blue Heal on himself, it just injured him instead.

"Glorious battle, Overlord of Max. You have fought like a true warrior." said one of the pillars.

"Thanks, Jreet." Max nodded.

"Yes, you truly strong." The Jreet crossed his arms and closed his eyes, "I have always hated how Liches uses mind-magic to end their fights."

"Myuu~! Overlord, I watched the entire thing! That final attack was just spectacular!"

"That's true. Let us pay our respects to our Overlord." said the Poly, and Max swore he could just hear the tone of the changeling's changing drastically already.

'How is he holding up anyways? Wasn't he in a middle of seizure or something? Eh, I'll ask him later. Right now, this is important.'

Yes, after he was healed, Max was informed of the results of his new hierarchy plan. Right now, he need to decide which candidates for the departments passed the test.

There were two candidates for the Head of Science Department.

Oibbio of Change and Sloot of Junk

The procedure was a simple one. The candidates comes inside the throne and gives out their assets, while the Overlord and pillars give their opinions.
Basically, it's like a job interview.

Oibbio went up first.
He was... something else.
There was no clear way to define him.
Glob of goo was hanging on it's back and he had many limbs just popping about.

The Oibbio crawled towards the Lich and did it's best to give out a bow.

"Gurp- Hello. Overlord. I. Oibbio of Change.- Gurp- I. Change Monsters. -Gurp- I see features. I. Make Better. Wings. Mutation. Stronger. Better. Smarter. New monsters through Change. - Gurp-"

Then the Sloot came.
It looks like a big squirrel, with yellow fur standing on two legs. It also has this giant grin in it's face.

"Hiyaa! My greetings Overlord! I'm Sloot! I can create a lot of stuff! Like throwing stuff and cool stuff! People call my stuff junk, but trust me! It's good stuff!"

He then proceeded to show you said stuff. There were items that sort of resemble machinery. Even a crude catapult was in the mix.

It wasn't until when both candidates displayed a sense of confusion that Max understood his folly.

"Nevermind. But, you two must work hard. Both approaches have their own merits, and in time your work will decide who gets the best supplies. However, collaboration between your work will earn extra resources."

A sense of inspiration seem to coming out the Sloot.

While the Oibbio... seemed inspired too? There was no clear way to tell with that monster.

Max continued on his proclamation. "Very well. That ends this."

The Sloot started jumping and screaming. "Yes! Yes! Thank you Overlord! I won't fail you!"

Then the Oibbio joined in the celebration.
"-Gurp- Yes, I am truly grateful to work for you. -Gurp- I-I have always been a-amazed by your feats ever since the -Gurp- kappa..."

Suddenly, Myu started laughing,"Oh my. It looks like this girl has fallen for the Overlord!"

'Waits? What? That's a girl?'

But before Max could ask, a thought from... Lixiver came.
