/tg/ - Traditional Games

You are Reinhold Eschenwald, master swordsman and victor of the Royal Swordsmanship Tournament. The King was so impressed with your skill, he personally requested that you be transferred out of the army and into the Royal Guard! Not bad for an orphan who was raised in a brothel in a poor fishing village.

One of many issues that you're forced to deal with at this point is your assignment... you've been charged to be the personal guard of the King's only daughter Marianne. While she is the vision of loveliness that you'd expect from a Princess, her personality is... well... she seems to have some issues.

Luciana's been kidnapped, the country itself is under attack... it seems like absolutely everything is going horribly right now.

>Congratulations, Reinhold is now a fearsome DIRE WOLF!
>Much larger than their the other types of wolf, the Dire Wolf's size also means that they are also that much more dangerous.
>The Princess considers you to be her dear friend!
>But while dire wolves are massive, they still don't -quite- stand on the same level as people.

"So in order to track down that bastard who kidnapped Luciana, we'll need to either get the help of either the Archmage or the rabbit?" Adrien asks.
"While I'm sure there's another course of action that we could take, we don't really have the time to consider anything aside from those two options," Arnaud replies.
"Alright," he nods. "So I guess some of us will go fetch her and then we'll all meet up in the Archmage's study..."
"That seems like the best way to avoid wasting time," Marianne replies. "Reinhold?" she turns to you. "What would you like to do?"

I like how every time Luci's about to be married to someone against her will, the quest immediately leaps forward an entire milestone in terms of the romance route with her.

If she ends up being threatened with marriage before our wedding, we'll likely get her pregnant next.

At this point it kinda makes sense for Reinhold. He is so hesitant to form intimate relationships that it takes him almost losing them in order to achknowledge his own felings.
>>
>>38185165
Reinhold is just tsundere. "It.. it's not like I wanted to marry you or anything. I'm just doing it because I don't want you to be married to some horrible noble."
>>
>>38185177
I actually excpected him to die like 200 threads ago. Maybe he is an ascended Deathflag or something
>>
>>38185177
I think he has gone from being the retiring bodyguard who will die to being Worf. "Karel is really awesome, he even out dueled Takamaru!" "The assassins injured Takamaru!" "Leopold is serious business, he just took out Takamaru!"
>>
>>38185211
Well, it's less indicative of the narrative, and more of /tg/'s mindset as being hyper-possessive. Luci might be married off to someone else? We have to go after her even though everything we've established so far says we're not ready for commitment! Luci's about to be married off to someone else again? Marry her! Now!

Hell, if Marie was about to be married off to someone against her will before the routelock, we'd have 'suddenly realized we want to be with her'. Hell, if ANY of the girls was put in that position, pre-routelock, /tg/ would be falling over themselves trying to get with them - even freaking Sylvie.
>>

..riiiiiiiight. I must have been in some other quest during that time period because that was never the case, ever. She flirted with us, and literally the only real indicative of a romantic presence with her came about way later when Arch said we'd tripped every single Luci flag.

And in all honesty, I don't really trust Arch to be honest about the reasons for some of the developments in the plot.
>>
>>38185412

>>
>>38185451

>>
>>38185351
I feel by the end of this situation, Luci and Reinhold end up both blurting their proposal at the same time to each other. Which leads to laughing, kissing and tease fighting about who said it first.
>>
>>38185468
Then one of them gets run through by the masked man.

>>
>>38185520
.... are you saying it isn't?
>>
>>38185505
You're so noble.
>>
>>38185520
I've never agreed with the "it was all /qtg/'s doing!" theory for why we wound up with Luci. My reasoning for why we dod is far more simple: /tg/ is immature and easily manipulated emotionally, as well as self-centered and greedy, not wanting anyone else to have 'their woman' even though they weren't that into her before the possibility of losing her.
>>
>>38185543
Not everything is a conspiracy by shady villains.

Sometimes a pack of retards is just a pack of retards.
>>
>>38185520
/qtg/ trolls can't into conspiracies because they'd rather brag about orchestrating imaginary ones. Much less efforts required and you actually receive attention that way.

>>38185505
Holy shit you seem bitter about a story on the internet.

>>38185505
The only time that I pushed anything ahead romance-wise was the Nicolette confession, and that was my last attempt to try and go "hey look at Nicolette she's a girl too stop fucking friendzoning her" because SHE was my pick to win the Reinbowl and I was getting frustrated..

That's it. Nothing else.

And hell, I even regretted doing that immediately afterwards because it went against my set way of doing things.

>>38185561
I wasn't aware that nobility, sarcastic or otherwise, hinged on the notion of being honest. I'm not going to change Arch's mind if he thinks the reason I don't trust him is because I'm some whiny bitch who is having a tantrum because I can't have my own way. The reason for this is, ironically, that part of the reason I don't trust Arch is due to the fact that he's a perfectionist who is firmly set in his ways and what he thinks something should or should not be like. He outright confesses to this aspect about himself, even. It's why we freaking have a series of long-running jokes about him burning things to the ground because of a minute typing error, for crying out loud. Someone like that isn't going to admit to messing up on something as compromising as potential railroading, overruling decisions or things of that sort. More often than not they'll shift the blame onto their players instead.

I think the funniest thing here is that people are assuming this has anything to do with waifus, and not just the general principle of the questing format itself. The only reason that Luci is the main focus of the topic is because this is a ROMANCE QUEST, therefore naturally the major decisions are going to be related to the romances more than anything else. If this were a FIGHTAN QUEST and the same shit was happening, I'd have the exact same criticisms and distrust.

But hey, why acknowledge shortcomings when you can shift blame and make petty remarks, right?

Honestly, reading through the archives, I really liked how Rein and Luci kinda just got stuck together. Mari was always hot/cold, Sylvie came off (to me) as way too... overwhelmed? By Rein. Nico was bro tier, but well... bro tier, yanno? Plus that thing for Melanie, idk, she seemed kinda half-hearted (again, to me, but I AM possessive). Melanie herself was never really on the radar. Luci though, she has that practicality. She didn't want to get tie the knot with someone she didn't like, and Rein was there. And there, and there again. Plus, I think Rein himself is JUST as practical, seeing how he (much like Luci) seems to have his fingers in every pie, and is constantly manipulating people (with their best interests in mind, of course!) in a way that is veeery similar to Luci. They just... fit. I can't really describe it better then that.
>>
>>38185948
calm down man. We'll get the Light Novel.
>>
>>38185803
I'd like to point out that arch has admitted to large mistakes in FDQ, such as fucking up the entire order of the sidestory. You can make assertions that he's railroading because he desires a "perfect" story, but every time has admitted to doing something wrong or otherwise apologize it weakens your assertion.
Arch is hypercritical of himself and probably makes his writing suffer. In turn the frustration he feels for messing up causing a cycle. It's more-so a character trait rather than perfectionism.
>>
>>38185795
You know, I'm kind of worried that no one's added Future Inaba to that picture. Seems potentially prophetic, you know?
>>
>>38185957
Rana's obviously the best fit.

In her route Rein has 1000 years to get over his fear of hanky panky.
It still might not be enough.
>>
"I'll go get Inaba and meet you guys in the study," you say to them. "Don't bother waiting for me to get there to tell Niklaus what's going on, we don't have any time to waste."
"Got it," Adrien replies. "Arnaud, would you mind taking Karel and the others to somewhere that-"
"I'm coming with you," Karel cuts her father off.
"...me too," Emilio says, tightly clutching her hand. "Luciana's my sister and Leopold was Karel's sword teacher so we both..."
"Alright, I understand," he replies. "C'mon, let's go."

Motioning for his daughter and her boyfriend to follow him, Adrien hurries down the hallway.

Melanie's only because of morning meido, which is mostly a comedy thing and she'd probably snap out of it before anything actually happened. Rana's definitely in character for her, which is sort of why I have trouble seeing her route. Y'know when Arch said he doesn't realistically see Rana and Mari becoming more than acquaintances, well I don't see them becoming more than friends. She's too sexually aggressive without any of the tact or grace of Luci, she's pretty much the last kind of girl he needs given his trauma, she'll break the poor bastard.

You don't hide things from Citrine. That's always been the case.

But right now, time is of the utmost importance and you really don't want to upset her with word of what's going on outside... she's been put into life-and-death situations twice in the past four days and more stress is the last thing that someone in her condition should have to deal with right now.

"Sir Gregory and the King are trying to keep the situation from getting any worse," you say as you help Agnes into the room. "but for now I just wanted to ask for Inaba's help since she might be able to to find where Leopold went with Luciana."
"I help!" Inaba shouts. "We go now?"

Her red eyes are filled with determination.

After giving Citrine and Agnes a a goodbye hug, you, Marianne and Inaba hurry out of the room and make a beeline for Niklaus's study. You see the door open when you get there, and waste no time hurrying inside.

"Reinmeister!" Niklaus calls out as you and your associates reach the center of the room. "The Prince told me all about what happened to your lady love and Sir Vincent."
"As well as the current situation outside the castle," Arnaud says.

Great, that saves time.

"So do you think you can help?" Marianne asks.
"If not, we have Inaba here..." you say, resting a hand on the bunnygirl's shoulder.
"Hm," he nods. "Makes sense, a rabbit's sense of smell is far superior to that of a normal human's... though that does bring the issue of redundancies."

"...and he can do area-of-effect stuff without even needing to cast..." Emilio mumbles.
"Exactly," he replies. "I've done stuff like this before and the best route is to have a small group to run in, kill the target, and retrieve the hostage."
"So that leaves the question of who to bring," Niklaus says. "This is Reinhart's girlfriend we're talking about here so clearly he'll be going... and I suppose it'll take either myself or the rabbit girl there to guide him to the target, yes?"

"...so I guess I'll be coming along after all," Niklaus sighs. "It's been a long while since I've been in a real fight, but I guess I'll have to get myself back into fighting form," he says, taking off his glasses and sighing deeply.
"Alright," you nod. "So that's me, Inaba, Niklaus..."

You turn to Karel.

"I'm staying behind," Karel shakes her head. "I'm not about to leave Emilio alone at a time like this, and..." she she takes a deep breath, "...you guy's are going out there to fight Leopold and I'd probably wend up fucking everything up for everyone," she mumbles.
"Karel?" Emilio turns to her. "This isn't your fault, don't think that anyone blames you for this."
"I know, but he's still..." she bows her head. "Sorry, Reinhold."

Though it's a disappointment, you definitely understand how Karel feels about facing Leopold in a life-or-death fight.

Especially since you have every intent of stabbing him in his stupid fucking face.

"It's alright," you say to your friend, "I get it."
"Thanks," Karel replies.
"So that's that, eh..." Arnaud says, pacing back and forth. "Niklaus, I expect you to keep Reinhold safe while you're out there, do you understand?"
"...you're not coming with us?"

You were sure that he'd...

"With Sir Vincent captured and both Sir Gregory and the King out fighting those mercenaries, it wouldn't be wise for me to leave the castle open to attack. Standard protocol is for at least two of the four of us to be in the area at all times, but right now it's only me and Prince Raoul here... as much as I'd love to go with you to save my goddaughter, I'm unable to do so."

"...this is as far as we go," Emilio says. "I wish I could come along to help, but I'm completely worthless at times like this... all I can do is wish you well and pray that you all come back safely."

Doing your best to stay out of the way of the steady flow of soldiers who are going in and out of the castle, you and the others hug the walls until you find a clearing that's more or less free of traffic.

"No," you shake your head, "but Niklaus can catch Luciana's scent and then we'll be on our way."

With his eyes closes, Niklaus lifts his head high in the air and takes several deep breaths.

"Smell of purple flowers," Inaba says. Trail that way."

At the same time, both Niklaus and Inaba point to the northwest.

Odd way to spell Mari route there friend.
>>
>>38189342
It really was an uphill battle to just spend time with her.
>>
>>38189291
While I no longer have a problem with Luci I am still kinda troubled by the fact her's will be the True Route. First of all I think that Mari's make for a better and more compelling story, I mainly think that it is stupid to decide which is the True route by a decisions made by a group of anons and possibly more then a few samefags.
I am kinda afraid that if it happens when Arch is writing the VN the story and characters start taking off and present him with a better story, he we'll have to shy away from it if doesn't fit with having Luci's as the True Route.
I want the VN to be the best it can. And I'd wouldn't really carea bout which would be the True route, as long as the product gives us the best story possible, rather then the best story within the limitation of a single choice made in the quest.
>>

"Possibly"
There are still assholes in qtg that brag about samefagging the shit out of that vote.

That is some superior taste anon good job.

Each route will be its own thing, and I'll go with whatever I believe will make for the better story while writing them.

The only thing a "true route" has to do with anything is with what I do with these characters after Princess Guard's story is over and done with.

makes me happy to hear. I have some bad experience with VN's where the "true route" ends up dominated and the other, often more interesting, routes gets kinda left by the wayside and never really deliver.

Ten minutes.

Twenty minutes.

Sixty minutes.

Stopping for nothing, you follow the meandering trail that Niklaus leads you along. Over small rivers, through forests, up waterfalls and around any number of maddening twists and turns, no obstacle causes you pause. And though you've changed directions several times, the low position of the sun in the sky tells you that you've been gradually moving northwest all the while.

"The trail is getting stronger," Niklaus calls out to you. "With any luck, it won't be much longer."
"Thanks," you reply.

You hope that Luciana knows that you're on the way...

"I recognize this area," Takamaru says. "We are nearing the border."

Suddenly, Inaba leaps out of your arms. Just as afraid of accidentally crushing her underfoot as you are of losing sight of her, you skid to a halt, nearly falling over in the process.

"Inaba!" you call out. "What the hell!?"

Noticing that you've stopped, Takamaru and Niklaus both double back to rejoin you.

"What's going on, Reinhild?" Niklaus asks. "We were making god time."
"It's her," you say, pointing at the rabbit.

And then once again, the rabbit becomes a little girl.

"I smell him!" Inaba shouts. "Andreas! Not dead!" she says, excitedly pointing to the north. "Reinhold, we help him and then save Luciana together!"

Not really. Let's save his sorry hide already so we can finally have some real luck on our side.

A trap is just an excuse for us to rip and tear.
>>
>>38189471
How close to the border are we? And how efficent are niklaus's healing spells? If we have the time, we could do with a fifth man. If were super close, then I'm afraid 3'2 is on his own.
>>
>>38189471
Takamaru, take Inaba and get Andreas.
Me and Niklaus stay on Luci's trail
>>
>>38189471
>what do you say to her?
good, let's go
>>
>>38189501
>how efficent are niklaus's healing spells
He casually regrows limbs, so I assume fairly good.
>>
>>38189471
"Let's go."

He's good, he's already fighting, and it's not like we won't already be giving away our approach to their hideout via tremorsense anyway.

Not to mention that we save some of that time spent back with the manpower we gain for clearing out enemy troops.

ESPECIALLY so if the other knights are with him (Inaba would only have recognized his scent, naturally), since it means we'd have almost twice the manpower instead of just +1 Andreas.
>>
>>38189471
>Ask her and sword if anyone else appears to be present.
>How far away is Andreas?
>How far away is Luciana?
If it's practical to grab him on the way, then good. If we have to go like a half hour or more out of our way or something I think we need to keep going. If Leopold crosses border it'll be a lot tougher.
>>
>>38189471
"How close? Are there any others with him?

Can you pick the trail back up, or do we need to split up?"

If we split up we should probably have Niklaus be the one who goes after Andreas while Inaba tracks Leopold, he's by far the best healer among us and Andreas might need some patching up.

They should be able to catch back up to whoever is with Inaba.
>>
>>38189506
>Takamaru, take Inaba and get Andreas.
I think neither of them is any good at healing and Andreas is almost certainly wounded from how I understood the bunny.
>>
>>38189533
Then swap Rein for Taka. Niklaus has to follow Luci, and Inaba is the only one that can lead us to Andreas.
>>
>>38189533
Speaking of Takamaru, would like to know how he is doing after an hour's travel.
>>
>>38189471
Rein and Inaba take a detour to Andreas. Nic and Tak go ahead after Luci.

>I have some bad experience with VN's where the "true route" ends up dominated and the other, often more interesting, routes gets kinda left by the wayside and never really deliver.
Yeah, I've been there too and it really sucks when that happens.
Though incidentally, my favorite usage of that concept was in a game whre the "true route" was a girl who was completely incidental in most of the other girls' routes yet had the most satisfying ending out of all of them.
And the "main girl" in that game was utterly pointless in terms of the main story outside her route.
