You can tell the topic of her artifacts is a somewhat sensitive area of conversation, and so seek to move on to hopefully safer ground. “How did you control your old familiars? I remember they seemed to obey your every whim, and you wore their skins when I first saw you in the void. Was that another artifact, or some sort of spell?”

Mortia reaches into a small pouch on her belt, extracting ten small beads roughly the size of marbles. “Each one of these beads can hold within it the soul of a living entity. It allows me to control the entity in question, although to some extent the trapped soul has influence over me as well. A wolf or a crow can exert little, if any influence but were I to trap a human or elf, I would run the risk of being taken over by its consciousness, my own soul becoming trapped instead. I tend to try and befriend my familiars before binding them to my will, as that tends to make things a bit easier all around.”

She tucks the beads back into their pouch, shrugging her shoulders. “I'm not really sure about how ethical it is, to rob a creature of its soul, but they're useful and it's not like I treat my familiars poorly. Free will is overrated, anyway.”

You glance at her skeptically. “I'd disagree, Mortia. I'd say that without free will there is little that separates a living, thinking being from a plant or a rock. They may as well be objects, is what I'm getting at. They're not truly alive and would have no reason to live. Even my slaves have free will, they make a conscious decision to obey my commands because they'd rather live in slavery than either face the consequences of killing me or return to whatever life they once lived.”
(1/2)
>>
You turn your attention once more to the path ahead. “Although it's not terribly important one way or the other. Free will and it's existence or nonexistence lie within the realm of philosophers. I would prefer to focus on the practical. For instance, impressing my guest and drinking to excess.”

Fulvia chooses then to comment. “The existence of free will can actually be proven false with some degree of certainty. The body acts before the mind conceives. All that occurs in the universe occurs due to the whim of some greater reality, usually explainable through mathematics. Even magic, though complex, can be expressed using algebraic equations. Though our empire never managed to reach a point where human action could be reliably predicted, we were able to simulate the actions of large groups with relative ease and precision.”

You pause to consider that for a moment, but ultimately dismiss the thought. “We can discuss this later, Fulvia. I really must be getting back to the party. Though this is a topic that interest me, and I'd like to hear more about what the Rhynians knew of free will.”

You emerge from the slave passages on the second story balcony and set down the ice-encased giant rat on the floor. Fulvia picks it up under one arm while it weakly struggles, still impaled through the side. You wonder if perhaps putting it out of its misery would be more humane, but the sadistic glint in Mortia's eyes tells you she has plans for the poor creature. Instead of following them into the gardens, you quickly duck into the master bedroom to shed your armor and lay your cloak down on the dresser.

Zahak shoots a jet of flame into the fireplace, heating the flame until it glows red before curling up quite contentedly inside. Dragon scales really are an amazing substance. You bet they'd make great armor, if you could find one of Zahak's cousins to harvest it from.

Before you return to the party you pause, glancing towards your cloak. Your Shockwave Sword is inside, you could drain it of vys before putting on your demonstration in the ballroom. Then again, you're not really all that low on vys. You could probably make it through the entire demonstration without worrying about running low.

First you massage the area they're applied to gently sometimes a little more forcibly but it depends on the band aid

Next you start to peel it off. Do it slowly don't rush into it otherwise there will be pain, holy shit there will be pain. You gottah ease into a tempo of peeling, work slowly and build momentum towards it again some band aids prefer a hard and fast tear at this moment while others and most often newer band aids would prefer the slow methodical peel

You reach into your cloak and pull out the hilt of your shockwave sword. As the gem embedded in its hilt is revealed, you're forced to shield your eyes. It glows with a sort of harsh, violent light. The skin on your hand nearest the gem actually begins to burn. You drain enough vys to fill your reserves and then let the sword fall once more into your cloak, healing what little damage was done to your hand.
>Vys Pool: (49/49)
>Sword Reserve: 42

That done you briefly consider putting on your warlock armor, but ultimately decide against it. You're not quite sure if your reserves are large enough to wear it without fear of harmful side effects, even if it would allow you to host a longer and perhaps more elaborate demonstration of siege. Plus, some of your guest might see it as tasteless showing off.

With your reserves replenished, you make your way swiftly across your estate, through the dining hall, and into the foyer. You stop outside the door to the ballroom and take a moment to straighten your robes and fix your hair, generally just tidy yourself up. You looked a little disheveled after that incident in the catacombs. That done, you push the door open and stride in confidently.

You find that most of your guest seem to be resting. Some are gathered together in small groups to chat and drink among themselves while others have retreated to the sitting room. Smoke trails from the curtained entrance, twisting towards the ceiling. You've no doubt that the men and women inside are rapidly approaching a state of unconsciousness.

You reach out towards Darzi, who's still standing in a group with Chrys, Halima, and Azra. You note that a red-eyed Vasuda and Hadia have joined them, while Delshad is nowhere to be seen. Presumably he's off in the sitting room enjoying a break from dancing. {So what happened earlier? I noticed you comforting Vasuda and now she looks as if she's just finished crying.}

Her response is vaguely apologetic. {We got her to tell us some stories about when the two of you were kids. I didn't realize that you'd been engaged, I just sort of thought the two of you were childhood friends or something of that sort. Anyway, Chrys started to get jealous, I think. You know how she is, it's always hard to tell with her. She asked where Vasuda's husband is, and she started sobbing. Anyway, she seems to have calmed down for now. She'd probably be cheered up if you'd come and talk with her.}

You wince. That sounds like a trap infested ruin you've no interest in delving. {Perhaps later, Darzi. I've got a show to put on. Hopefully it will work just as well.}

>Head into the sitting room and announce that you'll be putting on a show, herd everyone into the ballroom.
>Have little soldiers made of ice and stone charge into the sitting room and carry off the hookah pipes.
>Just put on the show for those currently in the ballroom, hopefully it will attract the attention of those in the sitting room.

This sounds like fun. Let one soldier carry a giant banner with "the show starts now" or something like that.

I hope we use soldiers from every element. The battle of the five armies or something like that.

>>
>>38184629
Why, we have done way worse to our selves and only mention the pain as a minor annoyance?
Sezhade didn't comment anything about it, and even had his own.
All he said is
Warlock Armor, as it was called in my day. Hellion Armor, as the Rhynians dubbed it. I'm sure you've already noticed that it innundates the body with Vys. You told me of the adverse effects that particular enchantment was having you already. It also enhances one's strength, sight, hearing, agility, stamina... every physical attribute you can name is doubled, if not tripled while that needle is planted in your spine. Channeling vys into the helmet will activate what myself and my comrades dubbed 'the Sight'. It allows you to see the ebbs and flows of vys as well as... other things. The Rhynians courted foul beast. Much like the one that inhabits that cloak of yours.
>>
>>38184629
Shezade IC and Soma said that Mik was too underleveled to wear the armor the prickling is just the way to tell us how close we are to the good level to wear it.

As you cross the ballroom, figures of marble and ice raise from the floor around you. They fall into formation behind you, forming two colums. By the time you reach the throne sitting atop the elevated platform which separates the sitting room from the ballroom, you have two veritable legions marching along in stride behind you. The stone soldiers wear a miniature replica of your own Warlock Armor, unenchanted of course. By contrast, the ice soldiers garb themselves in light armors or no armor at all.

You collapse into the throne, making yourself comfortable, as your soldiers continue to march into the sitting room. It isn't long before you hear a panicked shout, followed by the sounds of confused men and women trying to figure out what's wrong. Thankfully nobody reacts with anger to your interruption of their relaxation. You likely have the opium to thank for that. It's hard to get angry about much of anything when one is high out of their mind.

Your soldiers return, bearing aloft six hookah pipes. Each one has a bowl packed full of thick, black goo and most of them trail a sweet smelling, faint blue smoke. It almost looks like some sort of strange parade. You have the two legions of miniature soldiers split off, one carrying their three hookah pipes one direction and the other heading off the other direction. They end up setting the pipes down in opposite corners of the rooms.

While you have the troops gather up in ranks in the center of the ballroom, the rest of your guest slowly filter out of the sitting room. Your father, who had abstained from joining the others in the sitting room, looks on with obvious curiosity as you have illusory signs appear above each legion. One sign reads 'Supporters of Water sit on the left', while the other reads 'Supporters of Earth sit on the right'.

(1/2)
>>
Your guest, both those who had been in the sitting room and those who remained in the ballroom, separate into two teams. Chryssa, Profectus, Hadia, Master Barakat, your friend Delshad, and various others sit to the right. Darzi, your Father, Skull Kid, Vasuda, your sisters Duha and Pratima, and what you think is a slight majority of the rest of your guest sit to the left. Fulvia and Mortia rejoin the festivities just in time to join their own respective teams, Mortia sitting to the left and Fulvia the right.

Once everyone has seated themselves, you stand from your thrown and call out. “Friends, family, countrymen! I present to you today one of the first demonstrations of Siege! within the borders of Pidjata! Siege is a game I and an associate invented whilst I was traveling abroad due to the unfortunate circumstances I found myself in. It involves two or more Vatis using miniature soldiers, siege engines, and monsters to wage a battle of a scale and proportion of their choosing. I hope you'll come to enjoy this little game of mine.”

With that, you resume your seat. Your guest chatter quietly amongst themselves, most of them acting your companions what they can expect from this little demonstration of yours. You sink into a trance, letting your consciousness fade. You'll need to focus if you want to make this a truly magnificent event.

Found the notes about the warlock armour
>>36088425
>>36088399
>The only element he's left off is Metal, though there's an underlined note in the top corner that simply reads 'Metal = Reinforce'.
>You look first at the helmet, which according to the notes unlocks 'The Sight' when pure vys is channeled into it. When Water magic is used instead, it results in the ability to breath underwater just as one would on land. Fire results in immunity to poisonous or otherwise unpleasant air of any sort. Nature allows one to 'access surface thoughts: tricky'. At least, that's the way the Varistha put it. You wish he'd expounded a bit further on what 'tricky' entails. Finally, Earth allows one to see through solid objects as if they simply did not exist.
>The torso seems to mostly have enchantments related to physical abilities. Raw vys will enhance all of your physical abilities to some extent. Fire will enhance your strength and speed, at the expense of stamina and mental coherence. Water will allow you to more easily bend and flow around attacks, but seems to detriment one's strength and physical toughness. Earth is the opposite, it allows one to whether even the most powerful of blows, but you'll be hard pressed to move an inch while channeling Earth magic. Nature doesn't seem to do anything, unfortunately
>The boots seem to have paired enchantments, a note in the margins mentions that you can't channel vys into one boot without channeling it into the other as well. The gauntlets and pauldrons are likewise paired. The enchantments for both are fairly similar, the only difference being the delivery of the attack. Channeling fire will wreath either your boots or gauntlets in flame. Channeling water will freeze whatever you strike. Channeling Earth will rapidly erode whatever it is you touch. Channeling Nature allows you to more easily manipulate the movements of plantlife
