The castle goes through its normal morning routing as you stumble through the guards and the chaos of morning rush hour.

Fortunately, you've learned to skip straight past that as part of your morning routine.

You are Jack Albator, handsome adventurer, talented tradesman, excellent shot. All of which make you question why you've decided to wake up early and show up at the castle grounds for training. Yesterday was long, but you were able to recover most of your stamina through a night of drinking. The princess decided to join in your night of debauchery and tell you exactly what was troubling her mind. She was irritated at your habit of fleeing for adventure without as much as saying goodbye or even taking the time to acknowledge her. You never took her for the jealous type, but it's good to know.

Now, you're here at the castle ready for another round of getting beat up by an old lady for a martial arts style that you're not even sure is superior to the ol' pistol and cutlass. For you, it just seems to be a lot of investment for not much return.

You walk onto the dew-soaked grass of the training field to be met with the stern gaze of Lynneth. But something else is clearly different from her demeanor today, mostly because it seems she's picked up a new student.

"Straighten up!" Lyn yells as she hits her new protégé across the leg.
The brown-haired girl flinches, but quickly falls back into form.

"Tuile?" You say, completely taken aback by the once slovenly princess acting studious. "Seriously?"

You're glad.
You're happy that she's found something to at least take interest in. Frankly, you thought after telling her that she may have to work and sweat last night to join your crew, she would frankly get bored with the idea and quit.

Yet, here she is, getting the discipline beat into her like any rookie should. You feel proud in a way.
Even though you shouldn't, because this just proves the princess has more gumption than you do. At least the patience to sit through the round of beatings and stern glares. Which is something that you're not sure that your ego is ready to accept.

"Aye, I'll join too." You say to nobody as you take off your coat and stretch your arms.
You walk by Tuile and roughly scratch her ears as you pass. Lyn crosses her arms at your interruption.
"Glad to see you've decided to join us this morning, Jack."
"Always a pleasure to be beaten and yelled at, Ma'am."

"Good!" She claps her hands together. "So lets get started!"

You spend the next several hours of your morning getting punched, slapped, caned, occasionally chopped, mostly battered.

At the end, Lyn does the spark test again. This time it's significantly better than yesterday. It seems like you're learning this stuff quick.
Which is made all the more sweet by Tuile's spark test. She was able to throw an entire bolt by the end of one training session. Lyn thinks it has something to do with her royal genetics.

Either way, she's extremely ecstatic about it. She has a spring in her step all the way until you were dismissed from training for the day.

Tuile chats with you happily as you focus on trying not to limp on your bad leg. A limp made especially worse through repeated lickings from Lyn. Which is when you notice something, two princesses exiting the castle with a very determined look on their face.

"Jack, Princess Biscotti, we need to talk." Charlotte says, a serious look on her face.

Bad leg? When did that happen?

Jack has always had a light limp, but it basically went away when he was transported. I think I mentioned way back when that he didn't feel it anymore and it was virtually gone.

"So, that's yer plan?"
"That's... all we've come up with so far."

They're still trying to decide on a plan to meet with the princess of the foreign nation the rogue hero is suspected of being from. The problem is that the princess hasn't been seen in years and her father is a total control freak.
Their previous plan of sending in a rescue team wasn't well received by you, the sole member of the society of fluffy tail rescue.

You sigh, cupping your eyes into your palm.
"That's not much better than the plan ye had yesterday."
"It's still the only plan we have Jack, take it or leave it."

Hold on, you have to grasp the entirety of her suggestion, it's really quite a marvel if she wasn't being completely serious.

"So.. yer plan here is that there is an agreement between countries, called diplomatic exchange."
"That's right." Charlotte shifts uncomfortably in her seat.
"So- it's an agreement that if a foreign national seeks a favor from a country, they can ask fer an audience of a national of their choice."
"That's right."

You want to just stop and let that sink in for a moment, but there was more to that plan.
"So, ye have no spies, no collateral, and not even sure there is any royalty from this other kingdom in your country, but you think you can just waltz into their country and talk to a princess who may not even be alive anymore?"

The other princess in attendance, Anneta, springs to her feet at that insinuation.
"Don't say that! She's alive! We know it!"
"Do ye?"
"Does it matter? Don't say careless things like that!"

Charlotte sighs, "You have to forgive Anna, until the disappearance that princess was one of our childhood friends."

>"This is still a dumb plan. What's stopping them from just taking you and demandin' a ransom?"
>"I hope ye have another."
>"Tuile, what's your thought on this? "
>"I guess it's the only plan we got."

You grumble.
"Did ye at least send a messenger or a scout of somekind?"
"I sent a messenger several days ago. But there is a long process of bureaucracy in that country when it comes to sending letters. It may be a month before anyone sees it, and even then Ill never know if it got to her or was discarded."

"How about a scout?"
"I'm just a princess, Jack. I don't have the military authority to do that."

So that's that, then, huh?

"Any other idears, or is this the only one?"
"This is it, Jack."

Hey, you suddenly remembered something..
You turn to Tuile and notice that her eyes have tracked downward toward the stone floor.
"Hey Tuile."
"W-Huh? what?"
She seems to be startled at being addressed by name.

"What'd ye think?"
"What do I think about what?"
"What do ye think about the plan to get the captive hero back to her princess?"

"Uh, Um." She looks sheepish for a brief moment.

Then she lowers her head further. "I don't really know, I'm not much of a tactician."

Darn it Lass.
"But-" She raises her head again. "I would say that if I were doing something like that, I would want an escort. Maybe even several. I don't think Louise is up to the task, anyway."

Everyone at the table sits in silence for a minute as they consider that.
"That's a great idea Tuile! We can disguise the heroes as ambassadors and merchants in a caravan." Charlotte says eagerly.

>"This is still a bad idea."
>"Now all of us are in danger, yay."

"Yknow what Tuile."
You reach over and ruffle at her ears. The other princesses seem to wince as if to say 'I may be next'.

"That's a good idea. Nice thinking."
It's hard to see it, but very lightly a smile seems to creep onto her lips.

Your fingers rub and traverse the soft linens of her outer ear. They very physically twitch under the pressure of your fingers. Tuile slowly loses the tough exterior hiding her smile as more of it becomes visible on the edges of her lips.

"So." You address the other princesses, who seem uncharacteristically shocked at Tuile's sudden emotions. "That's as good as the plan is gonna get, I say. Take it or leave it."

Charlotte stands up and claps her hands together. "I think we have a deal! We should get everyone together and see what they think of it!"

"Alright, Lass. When did ye want to leave?"
"Today!"
"That's- Wait what?"

Charlotte giggles, "No point in putting it off, right? It will take a day to get there by Airship anyway. And we don't want to try flying into their country, do we? Sitting around and talking about it isn't going to get anything done."
"Yar but, didn't ye want to talk or discuss this with anyone beforehand?"

"I think most of the heroes will agree, and-"
Anna jumps to her feet, "If Yuuki is going, I'm going too!"
"Yeah!" Tuile does the same, "And if Jack is going, I'm also going with him!"

"Wh-" Is all you can make out, Charlotte is practically beaming. You suddenly feel as if you need to stock up on extra booze.

Oh what have you gotten yourself into?

Thanks everyone for the thread, apologies of how short this one ran for. I'm hoping to fix that in the coming weeks but future threads for a while may be this short until I figure out how to juggle my job and my quest.

Have a nice night everyone, let me know what you thought of it.
