> Previously, on Mage: the Awakening Quest!

Michael and his allies were rushing to prepare for an incoming assault from Hunters chasing Jemma, who was driving back to the warehouse that Diana calls home. Sarah was suffering from a panic attack of some kind, so you attempted to snap her out of it and have her help. Unfortunately, her definition of help was her off-loading all of her mental illnesses onto you by swapping most of her soul with yours, leaving you saddled with her emotional and mental baggage. However, this freed up her worries and fears to being able to quickly disable the Hunters and their weapons, all without invoking Paradox upon her.

She soon undid the spell she cast upon you both, and together you and the others are able to get the Hunters to back down, as they think it was us that bewitched one of their allies. Diana was able to scan the person's brain waves and magical pattern, and was able to trace it back to Tsukuyomi's Profane Urim, which would be located in her base of operations.

Unfortunately, the base is on the 95th floor of the Willis Tower (formally known as the Sears Tower). You begun to brainstorm ways of entering the building, and soon decide to enter in from two angles: Jemma and Sarah enter in from flying to the roof and coming in from above, while you, Liz, and Diana enter from the Shadow World side, as the tower is one of the few modern buildings that reside on that side.

With a plan set, you all break for the evening and will meet in the morning.
>>
Resource document is up to date, Michael is sitting on 24 exp. The current plan from the various players was to sit on the exp. until you get 1 more from this quest and then bump up to Gnosis 4.

Also, there was talk of having Sarah make spirits with Create Spirit to let you use for Create Fetish on the brass knuckles. People wanted to do that but weren't sure on what sorts of spirits you wanted.

In a general sense, what Sarah is going to do is spend Mana and time to create whatever spirits you ask her to make tonight, the only thing you have to decide upon is how powerful do you want the spirit to be and what sort of spirit you want. And unless you ask for something that has the stats of a player (like the Bruce Lee spirit you guys met) she will have the four spirits made for the morning.

And the spirits can embody or be whatever you can think of: kinetic energy, fire, water, air, an animal, etc., etc.
>>
>>38175800
Kinetic energy would be a good one for brass knuckles.
Maybe one for purification incase of poison/illness.
Also, bitch has demonstrated mind control out the ass, so something to counter that maybe?

I dunno what else.
>>
>>38175800
lighting?
>>
>>38175879
Yes, you can do lightning if you'd like.

>>38175858
A kinetic energy spirit is fine. A "Esuna" spirit (to use a Final Fantasy spell) is a bit more complicated, but still doable.

The best ways to combat mind control are with another Mind Mage to cast various forms of mental/psychic shielding or using Prime magic to counter whatever Mind spell she might cast.

Now, Jemma and Liz do know a Mind Mage (way back when we were recruiting Mages to rescue Liz, one by the name of TA was one that Jemma suggested).
>>
How strong of a spirit do you want them to be? For example, the kinetic spirit can be as weak as a handshake or as powerful as a jackhammer, and how often do you want it to be able to do these sorts of things?

For a lightning spirit, do you want a static shock or an actual bolt of lightning to fly out of your fist? And how often do you want it to do that?
>>
>>38176462
For the lightning, I'd vote about as strong as a police tazer.
The kinetic, I'd say at least as strong as a blow from Mike Tyson during his prime.
>>
>>38176590
this works

also did you do a twitter announcement?
>>

>>38176462
>>38176590

I also support this idea. The pair of knuckles allows for four different spirits, and this only covers two, right?
>>
>>38176993
Right now there's three spirits that have been suggested/wanted: the tazer lightning spirit, the world class boxing power kinetic spirit, and a disease/illness curing spirit.

The anti mind control spirit isn't really possible, more-so due to the nature of Mind magic.
>>
>>38177066
Spirits represent ideas mostly, so what if we had one that represented "mental focus"?
>>
>>38177066
Time spirit fetish to give us celerity like powers
>>
>>38177093
That one would be possible; a spirit to help with mental focus or mental resolve. It would only be a temporary buff, like a 1-dot addition to Resolve.

>>38177107
Something like having better reflexes due to seeing a half-second or 1 second into the future? Difficult, but possible.
>>
>>38176590
>The kinetic, I'd say at least as strong as a blow from Mike Tyson during his prime.
You know that is piss weak in WoD get the force of a werewolf behind your punch
>>
>>38177187
The extra action per round per dot of celerity due to speed
>>
Seeing how Werewolves are half Spirit, what fun things can you do to one?
>>
>>38177224
As we are unoptimized as shit we'd die first round
>>
>>38177224
Remember werewolves are combat masters. They soak agg and deal it with claws and bite or that may have been owod, its been a while
>>
>>38177187
What rank spirit can we use? Assuming we use a route we could get a rank 4
>>
>>38177244
Isn't a Werewolf just an above average Gangrel that doesn't do Agg? I don't see how 12~ lethal dice as much of a threat.
>>
>>38177223
That would basically be the one "big" spirit Sarah could do, the rest would have to be smaller ones, like the kinetic or lightning spirit.
>>
>>38177424
You can use up to a rank 4 spirit, the issue is just getting one, as Michael has done a lot of work and cooperation with spirits and not forcing them to bend to his will like Sarah did.

That's part of the reason why people want her to make some, as these will be spirits that are made for use in Fetishes and don't offend the "free" spirits around.
>>
I will begin the quest proper soon (in a little over 20 minutes) but this discussion can continue onward even during the quest and it will just be "assumed" that Sarah gave the spirits to Michael before they split up.
>>
>>38177440
It's not as op as is sounds I think every other template uses it. Most templates have it
>>38177429
Nope, not even close. Only a super optimized vampire can go up to a base werewolf.
>>
>>38177569
nwod
>>
>>38177495
What about if we summon a spirit of machine guns (rank 3) and tell him if we turn him to a fetish temporarily he gets to kill people?
>>
>>38177624
I just skimmed Forsaken and fuck has werewolf been nerfed
>>
>>38177364
In owod, it was more like the only shit that did agg to them was silver (or gold if you were one of the more exotic shapeshifter types) and the claws/fangs of other supernaturals.
>>
>>38177736
It'd be a bit of work, as you have to convince it that it would be temporary, like a few hours at most, and you might have to pay it a point of Mana, but it would be possible.
>>
> And now, back to the action!

Michael wakes up first, the sun barely peeking over the horizon as it slowly creeps up from the lake. Slowly crawling out of bed, he steps out onto the eastern patio and watches as the sun comes up. His gaze soon turns south towards the city proper and the large, black skyscraper towering over the other buildings in the city. In a few hours he'll be walking into it, trying to stop Tsukuyomi from her pursuit of Elizabeth, clear your wife's name and stop whatever plans she has in store for the Library.

"Can't sleep," Elizabeth says, hands rubbing his arms, the goosebumps from the cold air sending a chill up your spine.

"Not well, I'm anxious for today," he replies, looking back at Liz, her raven black hair blowing slightly in the early morning breeze. It's still unusual for her hair to be that color, when previously it was a silver white, but crossing the Abyss a second time certainly seems to have its affects. You can't help but think about how you've had to hide what changes it made to you, dying your hair back to its black color instead of the crimson red, and contacts to cover up your emerald green eyes and back to their hazel brown. What changes would happen to you if you crossed it a second time?

"Me too," she says, her head pressed against his broad back. "I'll do what I can with my magic, but she can potentially counter or dispel it, so don't rely on my bonuses to keep you on your feet."

No, the old-looking Life Mage is Garen (pic related when he looks young).

The Good Samaritain is the Mage that's called to aid/congratulate you after various major victories (saving Liz, stopping the Acamoth's ritual, helping you track down Liz when she went to become an Archmage).

Though some people think Liz is the Samaritain, using her newfound Archmage Time powers to go send these messages back in time.

"Well, Sarah's making some spirits for me to use in the knuckles, so I can get physical with Tsukuyomi. You just worry about keeping me and the others alive. I mean, who knows what sorts of tricks or wards she has in place?"

"Ok." She wraps her arm around his left, tugging on it gently. "Come on, let's get ready."

------------------

A few hours later, the five of you sit in the combat van, paying for parking at the closest place near the Tower. "So, one more time, let's go over the plan," Diana says to all, as she begins throwing various tools and trinkets into all of her cargo pants pockets and a messenger bag.

At that, Liz speaks up. "Jemma and Sarah will enter in from the roof, being careful to deactivate or dispel whatever wards she has set up. The rest of us will enter from the Shadow World side, doing the same thing. Because we have to walk most of the way up, Jemma will sit here and wait a while, as Sarah can always contact us through the Shadow World with her Spirit magic. When we are all in position, Jemma and Sarah will breech first as we come in from the opposite side a half-second later. With any luck we'll surprise her and disable her before she knows what hit her. Any questions?"

Ok, at this point you guys have to "lock in" your choices for the spirits.

So far, the ones suggested are:
> Kinetic energy spirit
> Lightning spirit
> Ailment curing spirit
> Resolve-boosting spirit
> Fire spirit
> Celerity (time speed up) spirit
> A Machine Gun spirit (temporary, costs you 1 point of Mana)
> Anything else you can think of that people like
>>
You think it over for a moment, before giving a facepalm to yourself. "The Hunters!"

"What about them," Jemma asks.

"Remember, they said some of their members were brainwashed into serving Tsukuyomi, what if they're defending her hideout?"

At that, everyone falls silent.

Ailment

Currently Michael has equipment that allows for 4 fetishes on him at one time (two in each brass knuckle). The spirits I had people pick from were ones the players suggested and voted upon.
>>
"Well, any way we can dispel the brainwashing or disable them somehow? I'd rather not have to kill them if possible," Michael says to the others.

"If it's Mind magic then we can dispel it," Diana says. "But I fear it's the Profane Urim brainwashing, which the only way to disable is to disable the artifact itself."

"Well, can we disable them somehow, like have Sarah transport them somewhere else or have Liz freeze time to so we can disarm them that way?"

"Again, it's possible, but we don't know what wards she has set up or what sort of anti-Mage items they have. All we can do is stay on point and be careful," Jemma says. She steps out first, making sure she has everything on her. Sarah follows, and for once isn't wearing one of your suits. Diana leaves third, and outside of her messenger bag is still in her overalls and mechanics clothing. Liz is still wearing her long dress, and you've elected to go for the workout look once more: hooded sweater with pockets, workout pants, and gym shoes.

The three of you quickly cross over into the Shadow World, and the tower is one of the few modern buildings within vision. Upon entering you find it eerily empty, as the wide open lobby and elevators that should have people bustling about stand still. Diana walks over, tapping something behind the counter before shaking her head in disappointment.

"Just like you suspected, no power." She walks over to one of the elevator shafts and easily pries the doors open. "No elevator cars either, damn. Guess we're taking the long way up."

Sarah gave you the spirits along the way, you have a Kinetic energy spirit, an Ailment-curing one, a Resolve-boosting one, and a celerity was made, though you decided to instead call upon the aid of a Machine Gun spirit, electing for more offensive capabilities instead of a passive buff, as the ailment one stops anything like a biological attack or tear gas-esque item, and the Resolve spirit will help against any sort of mental or psychic assault.

The three of you begin the long, tedious climb up the stairs, grateful that you have some decent padding in the shoes. Liz is holding up ok, but Diana seems to be struggling, as by the 15th floor she's panting, constantly shifting the weight of her bag around, several beads of sweat running down her forehead.

"You need to work on your cardio," you let Diana know, who promptly gives you a two-finger salute.

"Fuck. Off. Meathead," she replies, panting every step of the way. Your pace slows considerably, as you have to take breaks every five or 6 floors for Diana to catch her breath, as Liz heals the fatigue in her body. It's got to be almost an hour by now and you're barely halfway there.

"This is ridiculous," Diana moans out, looking at you. "I'm dying here and you're barely breaking a sweat."

Admittedly you're a little fatigued as well, but not to the point where you need Liz to heal anything. "Lots of endurance training," you reply to her. You lean back, looking up the stairs as you slip on her Mage Sight glasses. As you've walked up you've been slipping them on and off, keeping an eye out for any sort of runes or magical wards. But outside of various spirits floating through the building, none of which seem to care about what you or the others are doing, nothing has jumped out at you.

"Give me a moment, gonna check in with Sarah and Jemma." You reach out and use your spirit magic to communicate with Sarah, who thankfully was expecting your check-in time.

"<Everything ok,>" you ask her.

"<Kinda busy at the moment, we could use some help,>" she replies, a sense of strain in her mental voice. You glance over at Liz, motioning for her to speed up the pace. She begins climbing the stairs much faster, as Diana struggles to keep up the pace.

"<What's wrong,>" you ask, one arm grabbing onto Diana.

"What, what're you-" She starts exclaiming, as you pick herself and her bag up off the floor and start carrying her on your back, the added weight catching you by surprise. It takes a moment for you to shift your body posture and adjust to your new center of gravity, before chasing after Liz.

"Damn girl, you're heavy," you mutter to yourself, which earns you a slap on the head.

"For your information, I'm 110 pounds! It's my messenger bag," she says, shifting it slightly and you nearly fall backwards as her weight shifts suddenly.

"Sit still!" You continue to run, your breathing growing heavy and fast as you hurry up the steps as fast as you can.

"<Wards and Hunters,>" replies Sarah, before you feel the magical line snap dead.

"Liz, disable any wards you see on your way up," you yell to her through pained breathing. Carrying Diana and her gear up another 40-ish flights of stairs is going to take a toll on you, though it should give her enough of a breather for her to make it up the rest of the way herself.

"Already on it," she yells as you see her casting various spells aimed at various parts of the stairwell, runes of power fading away.

It takes another 5 minutes to get near the top, finally dropping her off and sprinting next to Liz, beads of sweat dripping down your face. "A pick me up would be nice," you mutter to her as you dispel another rune of power that she missed.

"On it," she replies, pressing her hand on your back. Within seconds the fatigue and exhaustion leave your body as Diana chases after you two. You finally reach the 95th floor door, and form a portal to the Material World. The rapport of gunfire echoes into the Shadow World, bouncing up and down the stairwell. Diana digs something out of her bag, some sort of grenade device.

"Tell the others to cover their eyes and ears," she says to you. You pass the message along and get Sarah to confirm, and after giving Diana a nod she opens the door, looks for the Hunters and throws the grenade device at them. A half-second later a loud screech and flash echo all around you, as you flinch and cover your ears for a moment as screams of pain and shock echo out.

You quickly dash inside, slipping the brass knuckles onto your fists. To your right are four Hunters, all decked out in black ops swat looking gear, but they all are busy recoiling in shock as the flash grenade's effects wear off. You quickly rush in, knocking one out with a swift punch to the face. Another eats a foot to the groin followed by your knee impacting his crouched face. A third tries to raise his gun and shoot at you, bit you are able to grab the barrel of the gun and lift his aim into the ceiling, a spray of bullets pelting the ceiling tile above. You knock the gun out of his hands and shove him into the last conscious person just as they aim at your head. The two go flying into the drywall and crash through it, as you follow after them and begin to pummel them into the sweet, gentle embrace of unconscious.

"Well... This isn't quite what I was expecting," a voice says from in the room.

You look up to see a young woman in rather ornate clothing, something looking like a weighed ball on a small, thin string connected to a sharp knife blade.

"I must say, Tsukuyomi's description of you is rather unkind, you are much hotter than I'd imagined."

"And you are..." You slowly climb up off the two unconscious Hunters in front of you, sizing up the woman in front of you. She's maybe as tall as Elizabeth, and there's a fair number of things on her person that seem unnecessary, especially if she is going to use that weight and knife as a weapon.

"Aww, Elizabeth didn't tell you about me?" Her lips curl into a pout as she begins to twirl the string around, knife blade quickly spinning into a whirl. "The name's Bandit," she replies, as illusions begin to expand out around her, soon encircling you as they all begin to chuckle and laugh as you whip your head around to try and see all of them. "Smokey Bandit." All of them launch the knife blade at you, some aiming for your face, others for your chest, and others for your extremities.

You close your arms over your chest, raising your fists to protect your face and neck, as her knife blade slashes at your leg, ripping open a large wound that begins to seep with blood.

Time for a Scarface moment, besides we promised the spirit some fun and we keep our promises. Bulleeeets!
>>
You slip on the glasses, and see that all of them appear to be made of various strings of Mana, and none give off any glow of a magical aura like a normal Mage does. At least, a Mage that isn't trying to obfuscate their aura.

"Well," you crack your neck and click your brass knuckles together, quietly willing forth the Lightning spirit to grant you some of it's energy as you describe the attack you are about to do. "This'll be interesting," and you punch out, a small, blue bolt of lightning striking the first Bandit you see, and instantly the thread of lightning strings out and strikes all of them. As many of them begin to poof into air, your eyes rest on the real Bandit, who is sparking slightly as her face grimaces in pain, the knife blade still spinning in her hard.

"What was that? That's not magic," she replies, throwing the spinning blade at you.

Also, the updated stats page for Michael. Note, you are 2 Mana off from max currently (1 used for getting the Machine Gun spirit, 1 from going to Gnosis 4 and not being in a Hallow or place to regen it).

If you'd like to, sure.

Whoops, my bad. Replied to another thread and forgot to add on my name+trip for here.
>>
>>38184225
I'd like to amend my vote (>>38184093) to add lightning to the Dragon Palm Strike, because that's just wonderful.
>>
Ok, I'd like for you guys to roll 9d10 (Strength + Brawl + 3 die), best of 5 rolls or until 10 minutes pass.
>>
Rolled 2, 2, 4, 7, 7, 9, 10, 9, 7 = 57 (9d10)

>>38184444
>>
Rolled 10, 3, 2, 8, 5, 10, 8, 10, 8 = 64 (9d10)

>>38184444
>>
Rolled 7, 1, 1, 9, 7, 6, 5, 4, 9 = 49 (9d10)

Rolled 4, 7, 3, 4, 5, 2, 6, 4, 5 = 40 (9d10)

You extend your left arm out, having the blade strike your open hand clean on. You grunt in pain as you close your hand around the knife, keeping her from pulling it away. Mentally you call for more lightning energy to encase your right hand as you dash in on her. You strike her chest and see bolts of lightning strike her as your open palm thrusts into her chest, right where her collarbones are at. You feel her bones shatter in your palm as your hand goes even deeper into her, as her body spasms, eyes rolling into the back of her head. She falls over, landing on her back first as you yank the knife from your hand.

"It's pure skill," you reply to her unconscious body. Liz enters, looking at the mess you've made, and sees Bandit lying on the ground.

"What... Fuck," she says, healing the wounds inflicted upon you. "Bandit's alive still too? Does that mean..."

The sounds of flesh hitting wood echo from out in the hallway, as Jemma flies past the opening you made. The both of you look outside to see a mountain of muscle and flesh crouched in the area, his thick, meaty tree trunk of a leg slowly bending down, black combat boot stomping on the ground.

"Heimdall," Liz growls out from under her breath, as Jemma kneels up off the ground, wiping a trail of blood out of her mouth. "So, you all survived," she yells out at the monster of a man.

"If you're going to kill Mages, don't let them sit in a time vortex to die of old age," he says, as he struggles to keep himself from breaking the walls and ceiling around him. "Because eventually, we'll get out."

> You ok, Jemma?
> What the hell, are they all free Liz?

Lightning spirit doesn't have many charges left, only enough for one big lightning bolt-charged attack.

You did 6 Lethal damage to Smokey Bandit, as you basically turned her collarbones and ribcage into dust, the bolt of lightning knocking her unconscious.

There are no stops on the punchtrain.

Well, I mean...I guess she's technically still alive for the moment.

> So, you're the muscle Mage of the group?

Can we ask what the Machine Gun spirit thinks of this? I kinda wanna hear its input.

Of the muscle man?

"... Are those bullet marks I see on his body already? Maybe he needs more lead poisoning!"

Of what you did to Bandit:

"Eh, I'd have done it with more lead."

>>38185293
Sounds like we should save our machine gun friend for later.

Writing. This'll be the last post for the night. Afterwards the thread will be open for questions and meta stuff.

"So, I take it you're the Muscle Mage of her group," you ask him, as Jemma stands up on wobbling legs behind you.

"You would be correct, though my size is rather... Limiting in this hallway," he says, and you see his body begin to shrink ever so slightly, at least so his head isn't stuffed against the ceiling and his shoulders aren't brushing up against the side walls, though he still towers over everyone else here. "I was guarding the roof, so imagine my surprise to see two women flying over to it, looking as though they were trying to sneak into the Tower for sightseeing."

"Yeah well, I thought a magazine into your face and a gust of wind off the building would've been enough for you," Jemma says, hands crackling with lightning. "But you Life Mages are hard to keep down."

At that, he shrugs, denting the drywall. "Meh, fall like 50 flights, punch my way back into the building and sprint up the stairs, just another day on the job. Now," he extends his hands out, ripping chunks of drywall out and into his hands. "Have fun with these," his hands open up and instead of drywall, swarms of hornets fly at you three.

so is 3 exp all we have or do we still have like 1 or 2 points left after we got gnosis 4
>>
>>38185789
3 exp. is what you have after spending a point to get Gnosis 4.
>>
>>38185798
ok good to know.
>>
ok I know we're probably supposed to talk strategy now that the quest is over, but can I gush momentarily about how badass it is that we just turned Bandit's chest into powder? Cause it was fucking badass.

now that I've got that out of the way, thoughts on handling those hornets? I'm thinking call up a wind spirit to blow them back at him. Thoughts?
>>
>>38185872
If we were a ninja, we could bullshit a cloud of anesthetic or something. But sadly, we are not.
>>
>>38185872
More wind seems like it'd do the job. And yeah, that was pretty badass. Took her out before she even got to monologue too much.
>>
The only conscious people in the hallway are Michael, Liz, Jemma, and Heimdall. The two Hunters you KOed are still unconscious, and Diana is off doing... Things.
>>
>>38185974
Do we see Sarah anywhere?
>>
>>38185974
question once were done with this arc can the next side quest have Mohammad Ali cause that would be interesting since Michel is a boxer.
>>
>>38186006
Sarah's nowhere to be seen, at least in terms of the hallway.

>>38186098
Probably not likely, as the only way to do that are time travel or briefly turning Ali back to his prime form, which are difficult to say the least.
>>
>>38186173
>Probably not likely
damn i wanted that to Michel's thing he fights the legends of well fighting like boxers and Martial artist.
>>
>>38186253

Mohammad Ali is still alive, though. We'd kick his ass because he's old and frail. Maybe Sugar Ray Robinson?
>>
>>38186455
that works he was the shit in his day.
