A few years after the battle with the tyrant Frieza upon the alien world of Namek, a new threat emerged much closer to home.

A pair of cybernetic monstrosities appeared on an island nine miles off of South City, wreaking terrible havoc and destruction upon the innocent civilians. The Earth's special forces quickly answered the call, but one by one, they were cut down.

Many years have passed since that faithful day, and only three warriors remain to oppose the destructive duo that have held the planet in a grip of fear for so long.

Kaguya,a human possessing legendary powers, and a persistence that has brought him back from crushing defeat many times.

Gohan, the half-Saiyan child of Goku, a Super Saiyan who has fought beside Kaguya since the two were children.

And Trunks, the half-Saiyan offspring of Vegeta and Bulma, and a young man determined to make a difference.

These three brave warriors are the last hope that mankind has.

Screams of terror echo through the streets of Pepper City.

After recently rebuilding from a previous attack, the terrified citizens find themselves fleeing for their lives once again as Cyborgs Seventeen and Eighteen rain death upon the city.

But, the powerful energy attacks that the pair have used to end so many lives are not the only thing crashing into the city streets today.

You brace yourself for impact as you're sent straight through a skyscraper and plummeting to the empty street below.

Picking yourself up out of the crater the attack has made, you stare up at the face of the one who attacked you.

Cyborg Eighteen stares back down at you, a smirk playing on her lips. Raising her hand, she sends a barrage of energy attacks down to finish you off, and you quickly leap to avoid each one.

Getting tired of playing a deadly game of dodgeball, you let out a yell and punch one of your enemy's blasts back up at her. Her eyes widen as she moves to avoid it, and she scowls as she rushes down at you at a speed that amazes you despite the fact that you've fought her dozens of times before.

As you drop into a defensive stance, the cyborg pulls her arm back, clenching her hand into a fist and throwing a punch that never reaches its target.

Gohan appears in front of you, blocking her strike with his palm and countering with a kick to the chin that sends her flying back into the air.

He glances back at you, smiling despite the dire situation. "Looks like we're outmatched again."

Probably because we never used the Time Chamber, and even if we are about even with them we can't train often to get stronger and aren't strong enough to more or less one shot them. Also we were only about 200 million after the time chamber in the other alt timeline because we didn't have the warning, or Super Saiyans to train with.

"Nah, we can take them," you joke before adopting a more serious tone. "Where's the other one?"

The sound of an energy blast being unleashed from nearby draws Gohan's attention, and he glances over your shoulder.

"Right there," he answers before the two of you leap to avoid the attack.

As you land, you observe Cyborg Seventeen slowly walking up the street, a cruel smirk on his face as he raises his right hand, preparing another attack. Glancing over your shoulder, you spot Eighteen hovering in the air, doing the same as her partner.

You stand back to back with Gohan, both of you doing your best to prepare yourself for the next assault your foes enact.

"So, how do you plan on getting us out of here this time?" you ask.

"I'm still working on that," Gohan answers.

The two cyborgs unleash their attacks at the same instant, large orbs of energy flying at you from each direction. You and Gohan yell as the two of you combine your energy to surround yourselves in a large, protective dome.

The blasts strike the energy dome, but it remains standing, and the two of you remain unharmed. Still, you know from experience that this won't work for long.

"You have any bright ideas?" Gohan asks.

Another series of blasts strike the dome, and you find yourself struggling to maintain it. Gohan nods back at you, giving his agreement to the plan.

"Alright, on my mark," he tells you. "Three..."

Another pair of blasts strike the dome, and you grind your teeth to keep it up.

"Two...."

The shield is struck again, and you drop to one knee, putting everything you have into keeping it up.

"One...."

The cyborgs fire one last pair of blasts, and the dome begins to evaporate upon the impact.

"Now!" Gohan shouts, holding his hands in front of his face.

Rising up, you do the same, and the two of you shout "SOLAR FLARE!"

There are two blinding flashes of light, and the very next second, you and Gohan flee from the City as fast as you can, leaving two disoriented and enraged cyborgs behind.

Once the two of you are satisfied that the cyborgs are no longer following you, Gohan powers down to his normal state, breathing heavily.

"Well, that was close, but we've had worse," he comments, glancing over. "Feel any stronger?"

Gohan turns so he flies on his back, placing his hands behind his head. "Oh well, at least we didn't end up with broken legs and internal bleeding like last time. We only have one Senzu Bean left."

"Yeah, still not sure how we managed to get away from that once," you comment.

"What do you mean you don't know?" he asks.

"Okay, fine, your plan to use the Masenko to rocket jump and them hide our energies as we sailed through low orbit was genius," you concede.

He smirks. "Thanks."

"But, that was almost as dangerous as the cyborgs," you point out.

"Even a small improvement is still an improvement," he tells you.

The two of you remain silent for a bit as you soar through the clouds, neither of you really knowing where you're going, and neither of you really caring. Frankly, you're both just happy to have gotten out of that fight relatively unscathed, though the disappointment in your lack of success does diminish that happiness a bit.

"Hey, we'll get them next time," Gohan tells you, as if reading your thoughts.

"Yep, so it's bound to come true eventually," Gohan tells you with an optimistic smile.

"Well, if next time doesn't go so well, there's always the time after that," you tell him. "I have a good feeling about that one."

He chuckles. "That's the spirit."

"We're getting better all the time," you remind him. "And with my Super Human potential and your Super Saiyan strength, we'll do it."

He nods confidently, then stops moving, rising so that he appears to be standing in the air as he looks back the way you came from.

His expression starts out as one of shock, but quickly switches to anger. "No, damn, what is he doing out there?!"

Hovering beside Gohan, you take a moment to see what has him so worked up, and quickly figure it out.

You sense a familiar power level in Pepper City. It's strong, not as strong as you or Gohan, and certainly not as strong as the cyborgs, but strong enough to be one of the highest levels of power on this planet. And, given that nearly everyone else is dead, there's really only one person it could be.

Trunks.

"Is he trying to get himself killed?" Gohan asks. "What's he thinking?"

Unfortunately, the only living thing left in the city now is Trunks, who stares up at you and Gohan with tears in his eyes.

"Gohan, Kaguya, why are they doing this?" he asks miserably. "All of this fear, this destruction, this death, is this what life's supposed to be like? Is this is the way things are meant to be?"

"It's not," you assure him, looking over to Gohan. "We should get him back to Bulma. It's not safe here, and we're both exhausted."

Before long, the three of you are in Capsule Corp, within the ruins of West City. Bulma does not seem to be home at the moment, so you and Gohan stick around.

Gohan stands by the window, staring out at the ruined city while Trunks sits in a nearby chair, tears streaming down his face.

"I'm tired of just sitting around helplessly while those monsters torch the planet!" Trunks tells the two of you. "There has to be something I can do! Gohan, you're Half-Saiyan like me, and Kaguya, you've been fighting since you were five, you two have to understand how I'm feeling."

Gohan chuckles. "You're pitiful, Trunks. An emotional wreck, just like I was when my mother wouldn't let me train with my father."

He turns around, slowly walking over to Trunks. "We will train you. We'll teach you to fight, and together, we'll stop those monsters! Right Kaguya?"

We gotta get far away from this base, so the androids can't find us.
Then we fight until your body can't move any more.
And we hope to god the Androids don't find us in the process.
Then we hide until our bodies no longer scream at us
Then we do it all again.

And sometimes, we try to stall the Androids just long enough to let one or two more people run away from them, so that they may live for perhaps another week, or month.

What year/age is it, in-universe? In canon, Cell made himself known to Trunks in 788 before killing him and taking his time machine/getting killed in the failed attempt of the former.

"Things didn't go well for the last people I trained," you remind Gohan.

After the cyborgs emerged, you intensified the training that you gave to your friends Kazuma, Billy, and Haya. It took a long time for you to believe that they were ready to fight. But, when you finally let them accompany you and Gohan in one of your battles, you saw how wrong you were.

Billy died in the first fight you brought them to, and the rest of you barely escaped with your lives. Haya was badly wounded in the next battle, and Kazuma sacrificed himself to buy the rest of you time to escape. It took Haya months to recover, and when she did, she died in the very next battle she was a part of.

Gohan told you not to blame yourself, but guilt over their deaths has lingered just the same.

"Kaguya..." Gohan starts.

"Trunks, you are going to listen to me and Gohan, got it?" you ask. "The student obeys the masters. If we tell you that you aren't ready to fight directly, you aren't ready. Got it?"

Trunks nods eagerly. "Yes, I'll do whatever you guys say, I promise!"

"Who knows, maybe you'll have better luck unlocking your Super Human potential than Gohan did," you tease.

"I like being a Super Saiyan just fine," Gohan tells you with a shrug.

"Thank you both so much!" Trunks says.

"Trunks? Is that you?" Bulma asks as she enters, carrying several grocery bags.

"Yeah mom, and we've got company!" Trunks tells her.

Bulma smiles upon seeing who's come to visit. "Gohan! Kaguya! It's been too long, how are you?"

Soon, you and the others are gathered at a small table, enjoying some of Bulma's cooking. The two Half-Saiyans finish an entire helping of food about as often as you take a bite, and poor Bulma struggles to make food as fast as they go through it.

As you sit at the table, observing Bulma and Trunks, you find yourself thinking about your family.

Your parents are, thankfully, still alive. Those that live out in the country have largely not been targeted by the cyborgs, who seem to prefer being able to kill as many people as possible in as short a time as possible.

Still, life at home hasn't been the same since the cyborgs came. Nappa's been gone for years, and while Icarus is still around, you just don't have the time for him that you used to, so constantly spending your time with Gohan, trying to find a way to end the nightmare that the world has been trapped in for so long. You don't see your parents nearly as much as you wish you did. And while they're always happy to see you, you can tell that it's hard for them to know their son could die at any moment as he thrusts himself into danger over and over again.

Dinner passes in good cheer, with some catching up between you, Gohan, and Bulma, joking with Trunks, and sharing stories about the good old days. As you talk about your old friends and adventures, it's almost like they're not really gone, as if your friends are sitting there, laughing with you as you talk about your most recent adventure.

Bulma sighs, leaning back. "So listen, guys. I know you're trying everything you can to stop these cyborgs, but I think that I might have another way to do it."

You and Gohan take Trunks to your favorite training spot: a rocky area at the edge of the sea. It's far from any people or any significant landmarks, so you're able to train freely there without any unwanted attention from people or murderous cyborgs.

Training between yourself and Gohan is usually intense. The two of you are pretty evenly matched, and, fighting against and beside each other for so long, you two know each other's moves like the back of your hands. It makes each match extremely close, and neither of you is consistently the victor.

With Trunks here, however, things need to be toned down a bit. Trunks is strong, but his power isn't even comparable to yours and Gohan's. So, much of the session today is spent attempting to hone Trunk's technique.

It quickly becomes evident that Trunks takes after his father quite a bit, with his stubborn refusal to give up and his great skill as a fighter. You can't help but be impressed by how well someone with such little training is able to fight.

His technique is almost perfect as he attacks Gohan. Of course, Gohan's technique is even better, and he's both stronger and faster than Trunks. So, Trunks goes until he collapses with exhaustion, unable to land a single hit on Gohan.
