It strikes you as a touch rude that Master Barakat would open the conversation with such a personal question, but you see no reason not to answer. “It's quite the story, actually. I was staying in the temple dedicated to Pani up on the northern coast, working towards Grandmastery of Water Magic. It was meant to be a relaxing break after the last month or so I've spent adventuring.”

You swirl the wine in your cup absentmindedly whilst considering how you want to tell this particular story. “I had been meditating on Nature magic at the time and noticed a figure slump to the floor and start turning grey. I do not possess any great experience in Nature magic, but I assumed correctly that this was what death looks like through the lens-”

Master Karim interrupts. “Technically, what you describe is the process of a non-Vatis dying. A powerful Vatis like myself, my fellow Masters, or even you, Mikhael, will release all of the vys stored within their reserves at once. It's an explosion of energy and color, quite dazzling really. Usually it won't have any effect on the material world but sometim-”

Master Padma interrupts, clearly irritated. “By Pani's blessed rack, let the boy finish his story Karim. You can tell him about watching people die later, creepy old bastard.” Masters Karim and Padma have always had something of a rivalry. As two of the oldest Vatis in the city they've known each other for centuries. They've argued like an old married couple for as long as you can remember.

Master Karim huffs, but stays silent. You proceed with your story. “Right, well. This friend of mine knows a technique, I believe it's an aspect of fire magic or perhaps merely a certain way of channeling raw vys, that allows her to restart the heart of someone recently dead, thus reviving them. Between my understanding of Water magic and her ability, we managed to revive Kadir. I asked to be unbanished as a reward for my service.”

At the conclusion of your story Master Barakat raises an eyebrow curiously. “I take it you haven't yet been officially unbanished? Otherwise I imagine we would've heard about such a momentous event. Been invited to some sort of ceremony or celebration of some sort.”

You take a sip of wine before responding. “No, not yet. Kadir wishes to ensure that the person who sent the assassin after him in the first place is captured and executed before he unbanishes me. Really, I just think he's trying to buy himself time. I don't blame him, his first real act as Shah is going to be apologizing to a man who said he screwed his mother. I can't imagine how embarrassing that must be.”

Master Tarik sighs in an exaggerated manner, gesturing for a slave to refill his cup. As an elven woman you only vaguely recognize pours, he speaks. “While that's all well and good I'm more interested in how an Aghtaki managed to buy a lavish estate and dozens of slaves seemingly on impulse. You've been in town not even a week. Where did you find the money?”

You've always disliked Master Tarik. You don't think he's a complete ass intentionally, rather you feel like it's some sort of reflex or bad habit of his. Like the words spew out of his mouth before he even realizes he's said anything.

>>

Golden Death, technically, but yeah more or less. Also Caerulea has the specific connotation of a dark blue, and it can also mean the sea/water in some context. Similarly, Ater is a word which refers specifically to a dull black, and has a connotation of depression, sadness, and neglect.

I want him to master earth and fire, so that his arm is comfortable, also because i doubt he would survive GM.
>>
>>38136639
Pretty easy to do.
GM in Water=6 vys
Master in Fire=5 vys
Apprentice in Earth=2 vys
Apprentice in Metal=2 vys
Vatis in Nature=3 vys
So 18 vys from just his elementary advancements, without metas or effects.
Don't know if he has any for any developed techniques or experiments in his regular one though.

>>

>>
>>38136827
That is not something most vatis do at all.
And he didn't say there's one for every element.
But it's obvious that the fire one is dragons.
>>
>>38136827
Actually, Varvar had to consume a hydra's heart and fight off the poison to achieve GM.
For palaka worms you probably have to try and erode their carapace or shape it or something.
Dragons probably require doing something with their fire, managing to burn them, or consuming their fire organs.

With a sweeping gesture you indicate the room as a whole. “All of this is the windfall of going where others dare not tread. You'll pardon me if I come across as cliché, my companions and I have traveled far and experienced much. Naturally we've accumulated wealth and prestige as a result.”

Master Tarik levels a skeptical look your way. “So I take it you just blundered into an unlocked vault full of Rhynian gold, then?”

You can't help but grin. “Not too far from the truth, actually. One of the first things I discovered was an old Hiacian mint in the Fortress of Eshnuk, you know that old ruin at the entrance to the pass? Well, it was just behind an old rusted door. All I had to do was pry it open and search a few boxes. Really, it's astonishing that nobody had found it before me. After that I plundered a Rhynian ruin near a village called Licae and raided a bandit hideout in the mountains which just so happened to contain a vault containing silks, incense, gems, gold, and silver.”

You shrug your shoulders nonchalantly. “I'm sure it was the payment for some terrible deed, or looted off of some important emissary, but the heavy burden of spending all of that vast wealth fell upon the shoulders of my companions and myself in the end.”

Master Tarik plucks up his now filled cup and raises it to his lips, slouching back in his chair and turning his attention to the party as a whole. Seems he's lost interest in this conversation. Gods above, you can't imagine how terrible having him as a Master must have been for Delshad and Ismail. Maybe you get used to him after a while. Who knows.

You take a moment to gauge the room. Your family have scattered across the two long tables you've had set up. Pratima and your older brother Zaahir are sitting with Profectus, Ismail, Mohan, and their respective mistresses. They seem to be listening with rapt attention as Profectus tells some story or another.

Your younger brother Chetan, sister Duha, step-mother Nadiyya, your sister Halima, and your mother have taken seats at the table with Darzi, Chryssa, Fulvia, Hadia, Derya, Rajani, and Vasuda. Derya and Chetan looks terribly uncomfortable, being the only men at the table. Then again they're both sort of vaguely effeminate so hopefully they'll grow more comfortable as the night progresses and the liquor flows.

It takes you a moment to spot Ayda, Semiha, and Azra; they're sitting at a table with Skull Kid, Delshad, Delshad's young apprentice, and Rasim. You note with some amusement that Rasim seems to be nervously flirting with Delshad's apprentice, though you can't really be certain. She seems to be adamantly ignoring him for now.

You're distracted by your father. He leans close, saying quietly under his breath. “You know, Mikhael, you have an awful lot of degenerates amongst your... well, your friends I suppose. I count three mutants, two humans, and then only that Darzi woman and yourself to keep them in check. If you'd like, I could send an entourage of house guard with you upon your departure. Good, Samjan men who have served the family well.”

Before you can respond your slaves bring out the first course, a light salad of lettuce, feta cheese, olives, and diced tomatoes. It's a light opening dish, an appetizer to hold you over until the real meal begins. You pluck up a ceramic decanter of olive oil and pour a moderate amount on your salad, before taking a pinch of black pepper from a bowl and sprinkling it atop the dish.

As you begin to enjoy your meal, you consider your father's proposal.

>Sure, a contingent of guards couldn't hurt. Tell your father to send them by tomorrow.

From earlier

Also, I updated your Comapnion's sheets taking into account reading they've been doing, meditations they've had, et cetera. Chrys hasn't bumped to Master in Earth but she's half way.

Additional note, most of your companions (though Chrys isn't numbered among them) will begin to accrue negatives to meditation rolls starting when they attain their first mastery of an element. These will be multiplied exponentially as they gain experience in other elements until their advancement is essentially capped. This is to represent the different levels of magical potential among your party. Some of your companions have already accrued these negatives for merely reaching Expert rank.

>>38137961
Oh, ok, for some reason i thought maybe trying to gm too much shit had some kind of bad negative trait mechanic or something and i had just forgotten it
>>
>>38137887
So our maluses increase only when we reach GM in an element, not when we reach master? And is it similar for our companions, i.e. that if companion X gets a malus at expert that malus will get worse each time expert or higher is reached in any element?

Another question, I don't know if it has been asked before: Does the malus affect meditations towards effects/metas as well or only elements?
>>
>>38138020
Since it hasn't increased when we reach Fire Master, yes, at least one more GM will be needed, but I'd rather get every other thing out of the way first so the maluses have the least effect possible.
>>
Soma, what would be the difference if someone had become a Fire GM before or after discovering and learning Illusions?

You don't bother trying to keep your voice down when you respond to your father. “I'd be remiss if I refused, father. However, you must understand that I can't exactly go dragging a platoon of heavily armored guards with me everywhere I go. For instance, my next voyage will take me into the center of the Pa'vala searching for an ancient lost gem said to purge the mind of any corrupting influence.” You note that Master Tarik perks up at the mention of the artifact you seek, leaning forward to listen more closely. “Guards would merely attract undue attention.”

Your father seems vaguely displeased. “Ah, but is it not on these voyages that you're at your most vulnerable? What if that elf of yours decided he liked the look of Darzi and tried to force himself on her? You know how elves are, they've got no self control.”

You try not to laugh, but fail in your attempts. Once you've managed to cease your snickering you respond. “While it's certainly true that Profectus lacks any sense of self-control, I doubt Darzi has any reason to fear his predation. I did not pick my companions because they are civilized and polite, or because they are well in control of themselves. Quite the contrary, I picked them because they are competent.”

“How many people are mad enough to dive into some ancient ruin on the cusp of collapse and battle whatever guardians remain in the search for treasure? I would guess that I and my companions are a rare, perhaps even a dying, breed. Besides, I've saved their lives multiple times and most of them have done the same for me. Contrary to popular belief, I've actually found the degenerate races to be rather amicable.”

>>
Master Padma chooses then to join the conversation. “I see you mimic the libertine view of your Master in that respect. He was once nearly banished himself for an affair with an elven woman.”

Master Karim grins nostalgically. “Ahh, a beautiful woman she was. Tits like you wouldn't believe, they were the size of my head, not that I would know. If I had indeed performed the acts they accused me of, I wouldn't regret it.”

Your father and Master Barakat are visible disgusted by this revelation, though Master Tarik merely seems amused. You're quick to change the subject, if for no other reason than to prevent any suspicion that you might also be involved in some sort of affair with one of your non-Samjan companions. “So, Father. Emir Yasin was to send you an emissary today wasn't he? How did that go?”

Your father's eyes light up with a sort of mischievous glee at the mention of the meeting. “Ah, Mikhael! Let me tell you, you've done the family a great service referring the Emir to me. I've managed to negotiate an agreement with the Emir to fabricate a crisis amongst the petty lords. He'll pressure the Shah to to grant our family hegemony over a handful of minor houses to the south of El-Amin on the condition that we bring them to heel. We may even end up the liege lords of those bastard Demirs.”

You glance towards your friend Rajani, herself a Demir, but she doesn't seem to have heard your father. A good thing too, because the peace negotiated between your houses is still new. The slightest insult may once more launch your two families into destructive and costly warfare.

>>
Conversation quickly turns to politics, allowing you to simply listen in and eat. Apparently Padma and Barakat are quite politically active, especially considering they're Vatis. Together they've organized a 'social club' exclusively for Vatis that meet in their homes, which are apparently adjacent, once a week to discuss political matters. Apparently a fair portion of Vatis in the city, including Master Tarik and Master Karim, are members of their little organization.

Barakat gets quite visibly excited as he discusses the possibility of demanding greater privileges from the Shah to choose when and where they work, and for how long they do so. All this talk of demands and ultimatums seems to make your father rather uncomfortable. After your modestly suggest that the status quo may be the status quo for a reason, the conversation rapidly devolves into an Argument between him and Barakat.

Only the arrival of the second course interrupts the rather vicious argument. It's a tajine, a type of thick stew, composed of lamb meat, fresh plumbs, a variety of vegetables, and almonds. It's served in the traditional clay tajine pots, which are used to cook the ingredients above a bed of hot coals.

Conversation turns to more civil topics as people once more focus on their food. Most of your guest seem to be on their third or fouth cup of wine, and increasingly there seems to be an atmosphere of drunken revelry. You think Rasim might be making progress with Delshad's apprentice, they're at least engaged in a conversation. Profectus has lifted his visor in order to eat, much to the amazement of everyone at his table. He seems barely able to take a bite without stopping to answer a question.

Chryssa seems to be quietly fuming at her own table while Vasuda tells a story of some sort. The entire table, besides Chryssa of course, seems to be in the throws of laughter. You can only hope it's not a story from your shared childhood.

Master Tarik distracts you from your meal when he poses you a question. “You said you were venturing into the Pa'vala to retrieve a gem, didn't you?”

You respond with a nod, and he continues. “You wouldn't happen to have any idea where the gem is located, would you? I've found myself troubled lately by strange dreams, I fear it may be the result of some research I've been doing on a realm the Rhynians called the Void. If this gem does what you say it does, I'd be willing to pay a hefty price to secure it for myself.”

The reason its heresy is because the child is a human, but Child in this setting is something able to create mini realities, and force you to worship/kill your self at the sight of him.
There is probable reasoning with the child being a child of our god, and a mere mortal being a child of some ones god.

About Dhatu, Prthvi and Srsti we know that they are almost forgotten; this probably means that they are not part of the official dogma, or it could be they are but only as a small unimportant side note only a few priests ever read.
Perhaps it is like "there are other gods, you could pray to them but they aren't there any more".
That Dhatu is sleeping is something probably only Mik knows. Like the metal codex told us, even his cult disappeared after a long while.

>>38139357
The "children" in children of Surya does not mean Surya fucked somebody that gave birth to them. The legend stated something like "they were special, they were created, perhaps they were even created by Surya himself".
>>
>>38139423
But you see, we can argue that they did because they did. Weird how that works, huh?
>>
>>38139471
No, see, it doesn't matter what's the reality, you don't seem to grasp this fact, it doesn't matter if it's true, it's still heresy to the church.
Weird how that works, huh?
>>
>>38139498
But, see, it's how it is, and the authority of the church doesn't matter to Mik.
Weird how that works, huh?

You sit up a little straighter, considering your answer carefully. “Well, assuming I'm able to move the artifact from its setting I'd be happy to allow you to use it. However, my own need for the artifact is rather pressing. I don't think selling it would be prudent.”

That answer seems good enough for Master Tarik, who settles down to take a sip from his cup. However, your Master doesn't allow him to simply turn his attention elsewhere. “What sort of dreams have you been having, Tarik? What sort of research have you been conducting?” He seems surprisingly concerned, though you suppose that makes sense given his past experiences with colleagues exploring the void.

Master Tarik shrugs his shoulders, seeming utterly nonplussed by your Master's questions. “The dreams are always the same. I'm floating in this black space and I feel a presence weighing down upon my mind. It rips a hole in the black and steps through. It's always telling me to do something, though I can never quite remember after I wake up.”

“As for my research, it's actually rather fascinating. I was deep in meditation one night and I began to notice these strings everywhere, and glowing balls of light all over the place. The first few times I didn't really understand what was happening but about three months ago I realized that I could manipulate the strings. I tried breaking one, and wound up sucked into some sort of vortex. On the other side was this vast realm of solid black, not a single creature in sight.”
(1/2 or 3)
>>
>>38139537
I'm getting at "it is not certain the children of Surya were created by Surya himself". Also, try to keep your tone civil, namecalling does not help your case.

“Anyway, started digging through the Grand Library and visiting that realm regularly. On one of my visits I encountered some sort of warped, vaguely feminine figure drifting through the black. It seemed fascinated by me, and not overly dangerous. Dialogue was halting as we didn't seem to share a language, though she could communicate by sending her thoughts directly into my mind. Eventually we began using pictures to communicate.”

“She showed me amazing things; massive gateways of swirling color, ancient ruins floating in the black, rifts in reality leading into deep canyons filled with strange creatures. I'd never seen such wonders. Ever since that meeting I've been having the dreams, though I've never seen that figure again.”

Gods above, he managed to figure out how to meditate upon reality all by himself. Though he's using a poor method, and he doesn't seem to really know what he's doing. Breaking one of the strings which bind reality to access the void seems horribly, horrible dangerous.

You think back on your encounter with the Child, and decide you have an obligation to warn him. “You should avoid that method of meditation for the next few weeks, or perhaps months. I know of a similar method and during one of my trips I encountered an entity. It was a massive, horned creature stepping out of a rift in reality swirling with color and spewing vys into the void.”

“It had this gaggle of what once might have been people preceding it to warn entities of the void to flee the area. One of them told me that it was a Child of the Gods. I only caught a brief glimpse of the creature, but even that glimpse made me want to end my own life, so great was its glory that I seriously considered sacrificing myself in its honor.”

Master Padma butts in at this point. “That's ridiculous, the gods have no children. Certainly not children which dwell within some ephemeral, empty realm which exist between the cracks in our own reality. It's clearly some powerful, and arrogant, spirit.”

You hold up your hands in mock surrender. “I'm merely stating what I was told, I never said I believed it.” Though you do believe it. That sort of talk would likely offend some of the more zealous faithful, even if you don't know of any actual written doctrine relating to the Gods' sex lives.

Master Tarik seems intrigued. “What makes you believe this 'Child of the Gods' is still dwelling within the void? Why wouldn't it have moved on by now?”

You guys fall for that Soma bait way too easy. He is not going to end the quest if we get our sanity restored. There is nothing that says that Mik at 2/10 means game is over.

>>
>>38141035
I have no idea what you're talking about. Care to elaborate?

Thinking that it will end is being retarded.

Soma is not a big enough asshole to ironically end the quest because our mind got "purged of influences"

>>38141055
Except I don't think it'd be an ironic end.
We basically achieve our biggest long term goal, defeat one of the deadliest places in the world, and defeat our biggest enemy, all with a good way to end the quest.
I think it'd be a fitting end to the quest, but I don't want the quest to end any time soon.
>>
>>38141064
Better not use too much Vys this time, we are at 7/10 and apparently the Entity can influence us more easily when we are with low Vys
>>
>>38141055
He might if Mikael doesn't know how to preserve his better parts from its effects.

The entire thing is really suspect anyways, the legend itself sound like the details we hear about artifacts that are only summaries of what they do.
Like, why would the temple of Dhatu have a mind purging artifact in the first place? Well, perhaps because Earth vatis can erode the mind and Metal magic and restore it, I presume.
But yet still an artifact made purely for the purpose and for its use sound like less than a quarter of that artifacts story. Jumping to conclusion one way or another is every kind of mistake besides.

According to the void entities we're not actually Mik. We're just some alien force manipulating him.

>>38141362
You, I like you.
>>
>>38141208
Look, you guys need to understand Soma much more than you obviously do if you think he would end the quest on something like Mik becoming "too sane" to continue with his adventuring.

Think slowly and carefully about that...you should come to an understanding that Soma does not do things that way. It's not the way he is made. He is not going to have the quest end on a low note like that.

It will either be a complete surprise based on a combination of crazy bad roles and super bad situation coincidences or a semi-planned plot move where he tests our decision making and has pre decided that if we decide bad and roll bad enough that he will let it go down the path to the end.

Understand Soma...and you will understand our end.

The church is not in control of the state so they can go fuck themselves
>>
>>38141358
None. We are influencing Mik as good at 7/10 as we did at the start of the quest.

The only thing in the direction those anons fear ever remotely said by Soma was something like "at 9/10 insanity Mik might hear everything the players post and it will confuse him".
>>
>>38141431
I agree with you. Why did you quote me?

>>38141433
Please don't
>>
Rather than answer Master Tarik's question, you decide to delay this discussion of the void. Your father is right next to you, it's doubtful that he wants to hear about all the various ways you compromise your sanity. Not to mention this is rather sensitive information. “How about this, all of the Vatis will get together after dinner and have a discussion about this. For now, lets focus on enjoying our meals.”

That seems to more or less put an end to the conversation. After all, it would be terribly rude to persist in discussing a topic after the host has already requested discussion cease. You return to your meal, and it isn't long before your slaves come to take away the largely emptied bowls and bring out the next dish.

For the main course, you're presented with a massive slice of bestila. It's a type of meat pie made from light, flaky pastry dough. The particular slice you've been served seems to be stuffed with squab, as well as almonds, cinnamon, sugar, onions, and a wide variety of other vegetables and spices. They've also sprinkled more cinnamon and sugar on top. Really it strikes you as half dessert and half entree.

The meat is delightfully tender, and the seasoning perfect. You really wonder who supplied this delicacy, especially considering they've supplied it in such vast amounts. Enough for everyone to enjoy. Whilst you're busy enjoying your meal, your slaves carry out two additional plates and set them down next to each of your guest. One holds flat bread slathered in hummus, and the other slices of lamb sausage.

>>38141463
Also the water spirit and stooges being able to hear us.
>>
>>38141274
Well, let's take a look then. An impartial perspective of >>38141120

>He might if Mikael doesn't know how to preserve his better parts from its effects.
Very thinly-veiled coercion towards learning metal magic.

Is the artifact in the temple of Dhatu?
Yes, as far as we know.
The speculation that they had an artifact which cleansed the mind because earth vatis have some nasty mind erosion magic?
Sounds like logical conclusion, though still speculation.
Do we really know so little about the artifact that it seems we know "less than a quarter" of its story?
Considering we don't have so much to go on, yes, that's fair.

Is the cat an earth spirit?
Yes, its in his name and circle thereof.
>>
>>38141433
I want anons to apply this to all of BQ. It would be a better place.
>>
>>38141423
yeah, but we told her we don't exactly believe complete, and that diffused the situation immediately.
>>38141450
Funny enough the church lost a good portion of its power a while back ,in one of our readings it was revealed an attempted coup was planned by a religious leader, but it was squashed.
>>
Conversation is sparse as people focus on eating, but you do notice a disturbance at one of the other tables. Profecuts has stood up and propped one of his legs on his seat. He's vigorously humping the air with his tongue hanging out of his mouth, while your friends Mohan and Ismail laugh their asses off. You note that Mohan's mistress, the woman in Master's robes, has joined them in laughing while the desert-dweller Ismail has taken as a mistress seems completely unamused. Your sister is clearly doing her best not to laugh and failing miserably.

Well, at least they're all getting along.

You can't say the same for the women's table. You suppose that's what it is, really. Considering the only men there are Chetan and Derya. Darzi seems to be trying to comfort Vasuda while Chrys watches on passively. Your mother is saying something, though you're not sure what, and everyone seems to be sort of just whispering among one another. You knew there would be trouble before the night was through.

When you finish your slice of bestila, you have to resist the temptation to ask for seconds. After all, there's still dessert and tea to enjoy. You think you're on your... sixth or so glass of wine, but you're feeling pretty good. You've got a full stomach to soak up the alcohol. Clearly some of your guest have fallen far deeper into their cups than you have.

Master Padma has one arm thrown over Master Karim's shoulders and they're fondly reminiscing about the horrible things they've done to one another. Apparently your Master once lit her bed on fire while she was in it, as a prank. You'd call that attempted murder, but maybe you're just a stick in the mud.

Void entities are full of shit. Even if they aren't wouldn't we just take control the second mik hits 1/10 from something stupid.
>>38141450
Oh yeah anon, nothing bad could possibly come of pissing off the church in this extremely religious nation, nothing at all.
>>
Eventually your plates are taken away and dessert is brought out. In addition to the traditional green tea with mint and sugar, you're presented with fresh figs, dates, and peaches as well as a large plate of simple sugar cookies, a platter of baklava, and a type of fried dough confection soaked in honey called sfenj.

Since dessert is the lightest dish, you could have everyone adjourn the the ballroom and sitting room for the rest of the night. There will likely be more drinking, and you expect at least your Master will be enjoying some opium before the night is through. You could also call an end to the dinner, though that would be seen as terribly abrupt.

>Just eat dessert in the dining hall.
>Adjourn to the ballroom and sitting area.
>Call an end to the dinner and see your family out.
>Write-in

To calm some folks down, I'll say this. I don't actually conceptualize the players as little voices in Mik's head. You are Mik, Mik is you, there is no separating the players from Mik.

>>38142367
>>38142294
Why?
>>
>>38142233
People will always bitch about something. Long stretches of either downtime or adventuring can start to be boring/grating depending on pacing.

>>38142254
If we are introducing those two, why wouldn't we let him meet the entire menagire of degenerates?
>>
>>38142424
Because our dad is a massive jew, and to him these guys are degenerates.
>>
>>38142405
Our father is a pretty big merchant, he can easily get the supplies/connections for what they need/ want.
They can even make a deal to split the profits.
>>
>>38142433
Our longest stretch of adventuring was the mine.

And that was short as fuck

We can easily be the middle man.
>>
>>38142424
I don't want someone else getting the money, or getting too involved and start getting greedy and manipulates them to work for him or gets them to leave us.
I mean, sure, I don't mind selling some of their stuff to Mik's father, but he's not going to be handling them.
>>
>>38142463
Yeah we have to help them out in that section, cause i can see our father reaming them hard in their virgin haggling pussies.

They are also some of the richest men, women, and elves in the country. One might think that would raise there status/usefulness in his eyes at the least.

I don't see him giving up that easily, haggling is a second nature to him so he'll want you to work out a good deal even if he was willing to give it in the first place.
>>
>>38142623
true, i just figured might as well set some plans to be done with income, and improving our family/city.
Since we said we would be gone for a few weeks.(traveling to chrys place is like a week+the side quest with the raiders+the scroll at the academy/golem making)
It is gonna be refreshing to go at it alone though.

Meh, just for some good old fashion fun more than anything. And it would be fun to see us roflstomp the opposition just to sort of stroke our ego about getting pretty strong in such a short amount of time.

Rich degenerates are worth interacting with though, as opposed to poor members of their races, if only for your own financial edification. Jewing 101.

You stand and clap your hands to get everyone's attention, the sound ringing out across the hall. Conversations slowly come to a stop, Profectus returning to his seat. You call out to everyone in the room. “We'll be adjourning to the ballroom and sitting area, drinks will be served and hookah is available for anyone interested. I'll also be putting on a demonstration for your entertainment.”

Your guest start to file out, and you with them. It seems a table has been set up to hold pitchers of wines both red and white, as well as ice water and various fruit juices. Much to your surprise there is a band set up in one corner composed of some of your slaves. It consist of an oud player, a man with a tombak, a man with a riq, and a fourth player with a zurnas. Not exactly the largest ban but it's well balanced. You didn't even know any of your slaves could play.

As you enter the room the band starts playing. It's a loud, danceable tune though you can't say the players are particularly good. You will say that the ballroom has fantastic acoustics, and that not many people seem to care about the quality of the music. For instance, Rasim seems to have convinced Delashad's apprentice to dance with him, and he drags her quite excitedly onto the dance floor. He's actually not that bad a dancer, good for him you suppose.

Your Master is already retiring to the sitting room, indeed as are all the masters. You suppose opium use is rather ubiquitous among your society, especially among Vatis. Mohan and Ismail have both taken to the dance floor with their respective dates, and Profectus seems to have convinced your sister Pratima to dance with him. You're not sure how you feel about Profectus flirting with your sister, but it's probably harmless.

Derya and Duha seem to be awkwardly discussing the possibility of maybe dancing, although Duha seems terribly bored. Derya has never had a way with women. Your brother, Zaahir, is dancing slowly with his very pregnant wife, you think you vaguely recall him mentioning a kid on the way. Your mother and father have joined the revelers on the dance floor, while your step-mothers seem quite occupied chatting amongst themselves and enjoying plates of Baklava.

Much to your surprise, Delashad and Hadia have partnered for a dance. You always thought they vaguely disliked eachother. They even seem to be enjoying themselves quite thoroughly. Maybe it's the liquor. That's probably it.

As for those without partners Azra, Halima, Darzi, and Chrys have formed a group by the table of refreshments. Darzi is eating a fig in a vaguely suggestive manner and discussing something or other with your sisters while Chrys mopes, or maybe she's just listening politely. It's always hard to tell with her.

Chetan fidgets uncomfortably sipping a cup of wine and picking at a plate of dates. Rajani stands in a similarly uncomfortable state by the table, eating what you think is a piece of halva and drinking copious amounts of wine. Seems she's nervous all of a sudden.

GM is 2 elements, could GM in a third if he wanted + 500 old years of experience. I don't think we would lose badly but I imagine our chances of winning would be slim, especially if he could use an army with multiple elements represented. Having allies could help cover some of our weaknesses + communication brooches and small unit tactics to instuct them would make for a pretty baller demo.

So, last night I had a horrible nightmare about Soma suddenly writing Banished Quest in a tragic style with Prof committing suicide after Mik died. You're about to reach out for Darzi via the brooches when you realize Fulvia is missing. Come to think of it, so is Mortia. You haven't seen Mortia since she slipped off to change, though you're pretty sure she was at the dinner. Your father said he saw two humans after all. They probably slipped off while nobody was looking to go be reclusive workaholics.{Fulvia, Mortia where did you two get off to?}

Mortia is the one to reply. {I mentioned the rat creature we created to the table I was sitting at. I think I grossed most of them out but Fulvia seemed interested so I decided to show her. We'll be back soon, promise!}

Fulvia's voice is the next to filter through the connection. {The rat has escaped its cage and we're unable to find it in the cellar. We fear it may have wriggled out through one of the windows and thus entered the city proper.}

Mortia's mental tone carries with it all the exasperation she must be feeling. {Damn it, Fulvia. I asked you to keep it a secret. }

Fulvia's reply is utterly nonplussed. {I am incapable of hiding the truth from my commanding officer. I am sorry, Mortia.}
