You are Reinhold Eschenwald, master swordsman and victor of the Royal Swordsmanship Tournament. The King was so impressed with your skill, he personally requested that you be transferred out of the army and into the Royal Guard! Not bad for an orphan who was raised in a brothel in a poor fishing village.

The only issue at this point is your assignment... you've been charged to be the personal guard of the King's only daughter Marianne. While she is the vision of loveliness that you'd expect from a Princess, her personality is... well... she seems to have some issues.

Your pleasant ride home from your pleasant ride to the city came to an abrupt halt (along with the carriage itself) thanks to the sudden appearance of Leopold, of all people.

And after greeting you casually, the injured knight collapsed on the ground...

>Congratulations, Reinhold is now a fearsome DIRE WOLF!
>Much larger than their the other types of wolf, the Dire Wolf's size also means that they are also that much more dangerous.
>The Princess considers you to be her dear friend!
>But while dire wolves are massive, they still don't -quite- stand on the same level as people.

>"Hold out your arms to the side and stand up!" you shout. "Try anything funny and I run you through!"

>The figure coughs violently and leans on his... sword(?) before doing just as you instructed. Slowly, he raises his head, revealing a face that you've seen before.

>"...Leopold!?" you gasp.
>"H- hey, buddy..." the Knight of Marconetti says, waving to you with a bloody hand. "Fancy meeting you here..."

>You stand there stunned as he falls face-first onto the ground.

A million things rush through your head at once. What the hell happened to get Leopold as injured as he is now, how the hell did he even get all the way out here, did whatever the hell did this to him follow him out here...

...but the most important thing to do at this exact moment is to get this man off the ground and see to his injuries.

This is a tricky one..our sword seemed suspicious of him, at least. This could very well be a trap..

Healing him could harm him, which is bad if he is on our side. On the other hand, crippling your enemy with ineptitude is hilariously efficient.

Calling for our friends is a bad idea as a whole, since that means exposing one of three royals to harm. All three at once if we call on Karel, because then Mari and Emil are unguarded.

Yeah, that's one reason I'm so hesitant to bring everyone out to heal. If he is coming with terrible news that could not come by pigeon or something; if he got badly injured by chance; all I can think is there must be SOMEWHERE else he should have gone first like a guard barracks or something.

You start towards Leopold, but find yourself freezing in place as suspicion fills your mind. What if this is a trap? What if there's an entire caravan of soldiers hiding -just- out of sight and waiting for the perfect time to ambush you?

Though it may seem farfetched, Marianne's in that carriage, as well as Karel and Emilio as well. There's no time to be making mistakes when it comes to their safety. Keeping this in mind, you look at the sword that you have gripped in your hand...

"Hey sword," you call out. You can hear me, right?"

No response.

"...well if you can, I'd really appreciate it if you could tell me if there's anyone else in this area aside from us."

Can it even understand you? Though it was talking to you just a few minutes ago, you've never had any indication that it can actually understand what you say back to it...

"...great," you say, breathing a sigh of relief. Since this thing actually responded to you, you're only -as- crazy as Monique is for talking to it instead of crazier.

The question of you stopping to see whether or not it's safe to see about Leopold's injuries is an entirely different matter, but you've always been to place the wellbeing of your loved ones over a casual acquaintance. And since you -did- get the go-ahead, you hurry over to Leopold's side without further hesitation and carefully roll him over onto his back.

I'll assume that it takes ~1-2 days for a letter to be drafted and carrier pigeon to deliver, and it was a 1-day carriage ride in. It's not unlikely that this was a deliberate attempt by the masked man to get Granache into the game.

From what we know thus far I'm assuming that Ancollota is supplying this masked man who has inside connections the manpower to throw off or undermine the nearby countries.

This would be far too convenient because it's also stated that the rogue slave state really enjoys remaining a country and provoking the two strongest military powers at once isn't an excellent way to stay alive.

The coincidence of the sea serpent attacks and salamanders should also be looked at. If the attack was deliberate it lacked the force to leave any form of lasting damage. It was either a blunder or a distracting shot. By making an illusion of power, and in fact by demonstrating that he knows where Celestino's kids are, the masked man shows absurd connections to the military and nobility of Granache and Marconetti.

From this, I conclude that the only people with such connections are Marianne's ex-bodyguard, One of Celestino's older children, or perhaps an unnamed rival of Celestino/Arnaud.
My personal inclination is that it's the bodyguard with some backing from one of Celestino's kids since the bodyguard came across a lot of cash and the majority of the kidnappers where hired mercenaries. The ties with Ancolotta are easy enough to make since they're desperate.

do some minor healing, get him on the carriage (keep him outside with the driver just in case it is a trap) and head as fast as possible to the castle or the Migault house (i think we were heading there anyway). Whichever is closest since both are probably protected from attack.

We need to get leopold help but we also need to make sure that the royals are safe. This might be the beginning of a bigger attack or a trap so we should be very cautious.

GM: What do you do now?

Leopold PC: I keep running towards the castle, I have to get this information in and can't wait to get treatment.

GM: As you head towards the castle, you see a royal carriage. You can see Reinhold and some of the royals, including Prince Emilio, through the window.

LPC: Change of plans, I run over and alert them! Emilio knows healing spells and can give me emergency treatment too. Two birds with one stone!

GM: The carriage driver yells at you to get out of the road, but eventually Reinhold gets out. *Rolls* You collapse from blood loss.

LPC: I introduce myself with my last breath.

GM: Reinhold starts talking to his sword while looking around suspiciously. He doesn't call anyone but, after listening to the air for a bit, starts rudimentary healing. *Rolls* He doesn't do a very good job. You die of blood loss. Roll a new character.

Unwilling to call for Emilio or Marianne to assist you in this, you do a quick reassessment of Leopold's injuries. After sheathing your sword, you reach over to where it seems like the part of his arm actually is injured...

...yeah, it looks broken.

You might not be any kind of doctor but you -do- know plenty about first aid, and so you will your bracelet into the shape of a knife with which to cut away at his sleeve.

"Geh..." you wince upon seeing just how bad shape Leopold's arm is in. Though it looks like a single clean fracture right between his elbow and shoulder, the degree of the break itself is... well, it's horrific.

But sitting here and gawking at it isn't going to help any, so you suck up those feelings of uneasiness and force the bones back into place as gently as you can.

Once the bone is set, you rattle off the incantation for Healing Grace a few times until it looks like his arm's back to the way it should be. Fortunately, your casual whim of using the spell in such a fashion actually worked out for the best.

With his arm taken care of, you unfasten the heavily damaged plate armor that Leopold's wearing enough for you to get a clear view of his chest injury... from your untrained eye, it looks like he has some bruising and cracked ribs.

...and what looks like a sharp piece of flint that's embedded in his side. That looks especially painful.

After removing the stone shard and setting his ribs as best you can, you cast Healing Grace one last time. Surprisingly enough, he rolls over and starts coughing up blood once you do this.

"Leopold!" you call out to the convulsing man. "C'mon, hang in there!"

You take hold of Leopold's uninjured arm and prop him up on your shoulder. You're not sure if it's being forced upright that does it or if he's expelled all the fluid from his lungs, but he does finally stop coughing.

"Dammit..." Still leaning on you, Leopold clears out his hoarse throat. "I passed out?"
"Yeah, you did," you reply. "I think I was able to patch you up alright, but you should still see a proper doctor about those wounds."
"This ain't the time for that," he laughs weakly.
"Maybe not, but-"

Alerted by movement from the vicinity of the carriage, you crane your neck to get a closer look. It's Karel. And she's staring right at the two of you with her mouth agape.

Of course this would be a shock for her...

But instead of doing as you say, Karel just draws closer to the carriage's door and purses her lips. It looks like this is the best you're going to get.

"A friend of yours?" Leopold asks, slipping off your shoulder so that he can stand on his own two feet.
"Yeah," you nod. "...will you be okay walking on your own?"

"I honestly don't know," you reply, "but Leopold needs medical attention. I patched him up as best I could just before you got here, but..."
"Very well," Luciana nods, "I'll take care of it myself so let's get him from out in the open."
"Good idea," you say, nodding in agreement.

After making it over to your own carriage, Leopold takes a seat on the carriage's step while the rest of you (sans Emilio and Marianne, who are still inside), crowd around the injured Knight.

"Is..." Karel chokes up, "...is he gonna be okay?"
"Looks like it," Luciana replies while examining Leopold's chest for damage that you may have missed. "It looks like there was some internal bleeding caused from his broken ribs, but Reinhold took care of that..."
"Thanks for that," Leopold replies, flashing you a tired smile. "By the way, why exactly is Karel wearing a dress?"

"I- uh- I'm not-" Karel stammers while trying to think of some kind of excuse.
"I've known you since you were what, four?" Leopold sighs. "Don't think that a pair of glasses and fake tits would fool me, kid."
"...they're real," she mumbles.
"Eh?" Leopold stares at her.
"I'm um... I'm a girl," Karel says, making the same kind of face that one would expect to see from a kid who'd just gotten caught trying to hide the fact that they wet the bed from their parents.
"You're serious!?" he shouts, jumping up from his makeshift seat before Luciana pushes him back down. "How in the-"
"Sorry for not telling you," Karel says, "but girls and Marconetti duelling-"

The look of relief and embarrassment on KArel's face quickly turns into concern when Leopold lets out a surprised yelp thanks to Luiciana's prodding.

"Looks like Reinhold missed a broken rib here," she says. "Don't worry though, it looks like it's still where it belongs so all I have to do is heal it up."
"Thanks, Princess," Leopold replies, still wincing in pain.

After Luciana casts an unfamiliar healing spell like it's the easiest thing in the world, it looks like Leopold's back in fighting shape. Just to check things out, he stands up from the carriage's step and pats his ribs a few times before refastening his mangled armor and turning back to her.

"Thanks for the medical care, Princess," Leopold says, bowing deeply.
"It was the least I could do," Luciana replies. "Now in return, I'd appreciate it if you would tell me why exactly you're here in Granache?"

Leopold's expression suddenly makes a turn for the gloomy.

"Out of nowhere, the four of us found ourselves under attack," Leopold says. "They weren't wearing the uniforms of any country that I know of so I assume that they were mercenaries, but the place where they appeared made their original all too obvious."
"Ancellotta," Luciana says, gritting her teeth.
"Exactly," Leopold nods. "These guys were more skilled than the stragglers from the kidnapping attempt that we'd been hunting down over the past month, but we were still able to dispatch them just fine..."

Leopold breathes a long sigh before resuming his story, and you can tell that what he's about to say isn't anything good.

"Just as Anatole was taking care of the last of the mercenaries, a huge stone pillar shot from the ground and hit him dead-on."
"What?" you gasp.
"He was able to take the brunt of it with that weird cape he used to fight with, but his arm was completely broken..."
"It was the masked man," Takamaru snarls, gripping his sword in an uncharacteristic display of rage.
"Yeah," Leopold nods solemnly. "The second that guy showed up, a ton of spikes shot up from underneath us until it looked like that Eastern 'hill of needles' that the King has a painting of..."
"What happened to Andreas!?" Elena shouts.
"......" Leopold looks away. "I don't know. After the needles, a bunch of walls sprouted from the ground and swallowed everyone up. I was pretty messed-up myself, but somehow I managed to fly over here since it was closer than the castle back in Marconetti."

Once that's out of the way, fuckin' hightail it to the castle so we can let them know. Have Takamaru send one of his paper birds ahead as an advance warning so they'll have a quicker turnaround for when we finally get there.

"Andreas..." Elena's knees buckle from underneath her and she falls to the ground. "He got..." her eyes begin welling with tears. "They..."
"Not dead," Inaba says as she crouches down and hugs her friend.
"B- but Leopold said that he got..." she sobs.
"Not dead!"

Inaba places a hand on both of Elena's shoulders and looks her in the eyes.

"Andreas is stars, right?" Inaba shouts.
"...yeah..." Elena sniffles.
"That right," she nods. "Stars is strongest, not lose to ground. Andreas not dead."
"B... but..."

Unconvinced by her friend's assertions, the little Princess breaks down in tears.

Succinctly put. I'm sure Ara~ would agree.

Luciana rushes to her sister's side and tries her best to console her, but Inaba... she starts grinding her teeth and looks into the sky.

"I show you," Inaba says. "Andreas not dead. I find him and bring to you."
"Wha...?" Elena looks up at her friend.

It's around now that you notice that Inaba's doing her best to hold back tears herself.

"I find Andreas," Inaba says, cracking her knuckles. "I find him and then I kill mask man for making you cry."

Inaba sniffs at the air for a few seconds before starting off to the north...

"NO!" Elena leaps up and wraps her arms around Inaba from behind. "I won't let them kill you too!"
"Let go!" Inaba shouts. "I rabbit! Ground not hurt me, I hurt ground!"

As if to prove her own words, Inaba stomps on the ground, causing a small crater to form underneath the two of them.

"But Inaba's about to-" Elena sobs.
"I need to-" Inaba growls.
"STOP." you shout. "Inaba, running off isn't going to help anything. And Elena, neither will crying."

Good, now you seem to have their attention.

"Inaba, don't you think that Andreas would want you to look after Elena right now?" you ask.
"......" Inaba glares at you. "...yes..."
"Okay then," you nod. "Now what we need to do right now is hurry to the castle and tell the King about what happened. Leopold, how long ago was this?"
"Maybe an hour tops," Leopold replies.

Reinhold, Taka, and Inaba stay back as a rearguard and pull a fighting retreat toward the castle, give the carriage riders time to get to safety and get reinforcements to help our asses out.

First priority is to protect royalty. Karel can't stay and fight.

Hard to say, but of all the bodyguards, Reinhold, Taka, and Inaba are the most expendable at the current moment.

We need to all be on the same page, and fire breath doesn't much care about carriages for protection.

Also:
>have Takamaru send off a familiar to the castle
The things are small, so either it gets through and lets the important folks at the castle know what's happening quickly (which means either they send someone to help with salamanders or at the very least they're already putting things in motion by the time we get back), or it means it peels off a salamander which has to go intercept it rather than attacking us.

"I told them to stay inside while we checked on you..."

Your entire body goes cold. Citrine's in direct danger and every instinct you have is screaming to run over to the other carriage and keep her safe, but Marianne's in this one and it's your sworn duty to watch over her...

"Salamanders are approaching," you say.
"What!?" Marianne gasps. "H- how in the-"
"Again!?" Emilio shouts.
"I need you two to stay in here, we'll take care of it," you say.

You jump back from the door and make a loop around the carriage, grabbing the halberd that you bought Marianne before returning to the door and opening it proper.

"Take this," you say, handing the heavy weapon over to the Princess.
"Wha-" Marianne's eyes grow wide when she sees it.
"It was supposed to be a gift, but I guess the timeframe's all screwed up," you say with a bitter smile. "Hang onto it just in case, okay?"
"...yes..." Marianne nods. "Thank you."

With that, you hop back to the ground and close the carriage door just as the Behemoths that pull the two vehicles start to get jittery from the approach of the airborne predators. But before you're able to tell the driver to unhitch them from the cars just in case, you hear a loud whistling sound coming from the sky.

Maybe it's being 5:30 AM talking, but this is just like the masked man's stone spike moves. Do you think the masked man might also be an ascended bear and the source of Vincent's hatred towards bears? At the sound of their father's voice, the two girls practically spill out of the carriage.

"Originally it was for something else, but I'm kinda iffy about my chances of serving a fight with -all- of you," he says, tossing it towards Sir Vincent. "Put it on."
"What?" Sir Vincent growls.
"Put it on," Leopold repeats himself. "Or your girls get crushed."
"Daddy, no!" Valerie shouts.
"Don't worry about your old man, Valerie," he replies as she slowly picks up the collar. "I ain't about to die that easy."

Doing just as he was told, Sir Vincent places the collar around his neck and forces it shut.

"There," Sir Vincent says. "Now let my daughters go."
"Alright," Leopold replies.

The stone that was crushing melts into sand, and the two girls quickly wriggle free of their former prison and race towards their father.

"Daddy!!" they sob, hugging Sir Vincent as tightly as they can.
"See?" he replies in a soft voice. "Everything's gonna be-"

In a flash, Sir Vincent is somehow replaced with a crude human-shaped effigy of straw.

>[8/?]

>>38102297
>"Wh... why do you have a slave collar...?" Karel asks, her voice wavering.
God dammit Karel you fucking retard.
>>
>>38102297
>In a flash, Sir Vincent is somehow replaced with a crude human-shaped effigy of straw.
knew it, you can't do stuff like that to people, but with a slave collar he's not people anymore
>>
>>38102313
so, doom magic is a solid plan
>>
>>38102246
>>38102189
Well, if it comes down to it, we still have our ankle bracelet that we could form into some form of a blade and kick at him.

OR, we could use it to envelop the collar, thus claiming it as 'ours'.
>>
>>38102297
lolwut
>>
>>38102297
So I suppose that confirms high-speed long distance communication between someone nearby and people at their secret base, since the last time we considered this the limiting factor for this whole teleportation gimmick was how quickly you can send the signal to trigger the call-back on the collar.

Which means either he's got some weird setup for this involving dissolving a stone he's been maintaining as a signalling device from a huge distance away or there's someone else watching.
>>
>>38102313
Wait...........What the fuck?
>>
>>38102297
>In a flash, Sir Vincent is somehow replaced with a crude human-shaped effigy of straw.

>>
>>38102321
that assuming all the hostages are wearing collars, if one isn't then they die too
>>
>>38102313
Isn't the whole point of the collars that they can teleport the slaves back if they run away?

He was probably planning to use it on Luciana but presumably now we have a chance to chase them.
>>
So where do you think he went?
>>
>>38102331
if forget the details, but its something like you can't teleport people or something. but the collar fools the world into thinking you're not people so you can teleport escaped slaves
>>
>>38102338
Some stronghold. With luck, however they wouldn't be expect Vincent, specifically.
>>
>>38102353
Yeah I completely forgot they could teleport people.
>>
>>38102353
But there's an effigy instead.. that's not teleportation, that's substitution.
>>
>>38102331
A lot of spells don't work on creatures the world recognises as "people". The slave collars makes it so the wearer counts as an "object".
>>
>>38102297
Man, you better be REAL confident with your plan Leopold, because if you mess up, it will be a LOONG time before either Thierri or Gregory let you die.
>>
>>38102338
>we have to check for places that got wrecked by a giant bear to find Vincent
>>
>>38102356
You need the same volume and Vincent is an uncommonly large man.
>>
>>38102369
teleported the dummy at the same time?
>>
>>38102353
Yeah, it won't let you teleport people, but the reason slave collars work is that the metal they're made of makes whatever's inside it read as part of the collar, and the collars are objects.

Which means if you own the collar, you can drag the people along for the ride since the world thinks they're part of the object.

>>38102369
That's how it works.

>"And the summoning spell itself requires three things in order to work- the object summoned needs to have a name that the world recognizes, it has to actually be the property of the caster... and the final condition's where your plan gets screwed up," Sir Gregory says.
>"Oh?"
>"The summoning works based on substitution," he points a finger in the sir. "Meet the first two conditions, and then you need to provide an object of a similar size and shape to the thing you're trying to summon."
>>
>>38102395
No thats how it works, the dummy and the person in the collar switch places.
>>
>>38102356
Considering he's crazy dangerous even without magic it could mess up their plans a lot.

"Wha..." Racquel backs away from the straw. "Daddy...?"
"WHAT DID YOU DO WITH MY DADDY!?" Valerie shrieks.
"Sent him to my home," Leopold replies. "It was supposed to be for Luciana, but having him around here would be a real problem for my own personal safety."
"You..." Reya growls.

You -might- be able to snake your bracelet up your arm and maybe coil it into a spring, then launch it at Leopold... but if you missed, there's no doubt in mind that this piece of shit would crush the carriage with Citrine inside. It's too risky.

"And with that..." Leopold says as he slowly backs away from you and the others, "...I think I'll make my exit."
"Luciana!" Elena shouts. "Let her go!"
"No can do," he shakes his head. "Sorry, little Princess."
"I chase you," Inaba growls.
"The range of earth that I can control is about a mile and I can fully sense anything within that range, so I saddest that you don't follow me," he replies. "If you do then I'll just crush the lot of you."

His words cause you and everyone else to freeze in place as he creeps away. Luciana looks at you with pleading eyes, and you see her shake her head as best she can with Leopold holding onto it...

...and soon enough, she's gone.

Sanctuary blocks spells too, so it should, yeah.

My recommendation: If we can only cast it once, then we cast it on Citrine's carriage. There's the most people in there, I believe. With that, we have Inaba jump onto Mari's carriage, kick in the roof and then jump with Mari and Emil over to Citrine's carriage while the other girls make it inside of Sanctuary's field of range.
>>
>>38102498
they're a threat, and Sanctuary repels threats to the user. plus the rocks are magic and it repels spells

>>38102507

>>
>>38102476

If this works, go ahead and cast it.
>>
>>38102488
As side note, Takamaru needs medical attention and a reminder that as a lightning contractor Arnaud can sense the electrical signals from a great deal away, I don't see why Leopold couldn't sense whatever the fuck he does at that range.

Sanctuary
Cost: 20MP
Element: None
Incantation:
Effect: Forms a stationary invisible barrier around a single target, ranging from the size of a small shack at minimum to an unspecified maximum. Nothing with the intent to harm the target can enter the affected area, and all attacks will be deflected. The barrier itself is unbreakable, and only loses effect when the target leaves its area.
It should work
>>
>>38102530
> can enter the affected area
The rocks are already inside the area we'd be using the sanctuary on, since the minimum size is a small shack and that's absolutely larger than a carriage.
>>
>>38102530

>>
>>38102543

>>
>>38102543
Yes, but it's preposterous to think because rocks are inside that he can still effect them. Otherwise everyone could circumvent sanctuary by invoking secondary effects on the terrain.
>>
>>38102543
if everyone gets in one spot, like if we crowd Takamaru and he assumes we're trying to help him as we cast it. plus it think threats would be forced out of the area as long as they're seen as threats

Yeah. Reinhold is really overly trusting for being assaulted and betrayed in his childhood. Karel's got the least reliable sense of judgement after Elena. I'm not that inclined to worry about her losing her shit seeing as she always has the wrong idea about everyone around her in the first place, and is liable to attack us for less half the time with her volatile pettiness.

>>38102662
>Vincent was within it, but Elena for example wouldn't be.
It seems very stupid to have a highly effective kidnap plan for Marconetti royals and then use a method that is specifically incapable of snatching two of the four possible royals that they're looking for.

You'd think they'd have sized the effigy in a way that they could've grabbed someone between Elena-size and Reasonable Human Being-size instead of Grown Up-size to Human Behemoth-size.

Guys, if Reinhold's Metal affinity makes his Earth spells go metal instead of rock then if we caught Leopold in a Colossus Hold it's be a GIANT METAL FIST instead. It'd be perfect to catch him off guard, he doesn't know Reinhold can do metal and if he sees us doing an earth spell he'll just assume he can contractor BS his way out of it. Return of the Steel Knight and his Fist of Justice
Colossus Hold
Cost: 6MP (base: 7MP)
Element: Earth
Incantation: "Let my rigid will bend even the toughest of stones. All that does not kneel before me shall be instead crushed before my terrible might."
Effect: A large stone hand sprouts through a stone surface, controlled by the movements of the user's corresponding hand. This spell can only be used if there is a large enough stone surface to manifest from.

Arnaud is a contractor. Okay. You implied it on the way to fuckholeville but this seems to confirm.
>>
>>38102735
The only possible way they can get the collar onto Vincent is if they have leverage on him in the form of one of his daughters/wife/etc.

Which means THAT IS THEIR ANTI-VINCENT TECH. Just keep the fucking hostage and use the collar on one of the royals instead of keeping the royal you grabbed and collaring Vincent.

This way of doing things is just way worse if they have any inclination toward trying to capture a target during in a smash-and-grab kidnapping attempt instead of a big stand-off like this one.

Hostage-taking can only go so far, it's a temporary tactic for neutralizing someone who could otherwise just stomp you into the dirt.

On the other hand, permanently neutralizing a major asset like Vincent could arguably have a much greater impact than kidnapping some random fourth or fifth kid of a monarch, because when it comes time for military action it's not Emilio or Elena who is going to run out and solo a thousand soldiers all on their lonesome.

>>38102820
And completely fuck up Reinhold.
>>
We need to even the odds. Someone should teach us Daystar
>>
Should have knocked Leo down at least.

Alas.
>>
>>38102828
Worth it. Wounds heal. Leopold won't.
>>
>>38102575
When we go after That Fuck we should probably ask Rana for a ride.

She can fly, which helps with getting close to a Earth Contractor, and having a dragon on your side in a fight is always good.
>>
>>38102828
At this point I want to use it just because every time we try and use it we get told no and slapped on the wrist.
>>

We need to be half anger for that move bro.
>>
>>38102846
Plus it would be fitting since Luci warned us against using it.
>>
>>38102828
Gerhard double Boosted and still healed up fine, even if Reinhold doesn't have that half dragon endurance he could still handle at least one for a finishing move
>>

'night.

>That's entirely up to you guys.
I can't really see a situation in which people aren't going to want to do that, since the search and rescue mission is basically the one real interesting way of resolving this sort of conflict.

I'm not going to say it'll be solo, since it seems silly to insist on going alone when there are plenty of other people who would be more than happy to join the party, but there's definitely going to be a rescue mission.

>>38102846
IIRC one Boost is fairly safe, but not comfortable, and gets worse after long use. Multiples are where things start to get hairy.
>>
>>38102794
>>How would it have went if we didn't bother helping Leopold due to our sword?
>Things would have turned out differently, but Karel would have insisted that you do SOMETHING about him.
..why do I suspect that 'differently' just means 'Leo gets away just like he did now but he's also injured'?

>>We are going to go after her right anyway right, one man army style?
>That's entirely up to you guys.
That means 'it's not going to work and it will just end up as a clusterfuck of fail'.

Wellp, good thing I was never into Luci in the first place. Hope she likes her new husband.
>>
>>38102818
If he crutches on his element like most contractors seem to, it's actually a really good matchup for Rein now that he can do Steel Body. If he can't hide behind a hostage it might just end up like trying to throw boulders at Tony Stark.
>>
>>38102858
Rein being forced to double boost would be a god tier end to this quest, though.
>>
>>38102862

Nah FUCK THAT we will make this shit work.

Holy shit, how's Greg going to react?
>>
>>38102777
>I have felt this has been a problem a few times of late. We make some suggestion and Reinhold discards it as an OOC thought or something else.
The alternative is Reinhold running off and acting completely schizophrenic like he did in the middle of the waifu wars. There are plenty of quests that have a MC with a set characterization, Larro's for example.
>>
>>38102808
i'm pretty sure you need to be really gifted to do that like Elena

Single boost once in a while is safe-ish, the big danger comes from using it as an easy-button and using it frequently, or from using it multiple times in quick succession.

Or from popping it too early then having it burn out halfway through the fight, that could also be really really bad, but more because of how stabbed we would get.

There's a point between "reading a book written by archelon" and "accepting completely foolish actions."

Also, at some points in the quest where there were apparent bad decisions, I think in general people were trying to act on good motives that were interpreted in the worst way possible. Some of the choices have undercurrents that are not really apparent and/or do not incorporate the mood of people actually responding. I remember a few times voting for something and having the actual action taken be completely unexpected.
>>
>>38102919
He could even keep his old arm as a glorious souvenir.
>>
>>38102921
I don't really read it myself much, but I think it's more an overreaction to people making suboptimal choices in False Dendrite.
>>
>>38102883
He's at least going to be somewhat predictable (GREG ANGRY; GREG SLICE, DICE, ETC.)

I'm more worried about Karel, what with the sudden revelation of "the one person I looked up to most all my life actually turned out to be the hugest evil asshole ever and kidnapped my crush's sister who is also my friend's girlfriend and is also my boss's daughter, and now my boss is totally going to think I'm in on it by virtue of my long-time association with Leopold and suddenly I'm back to being worried about getting executed again."

>>38102921
The "author vision" part was absolutely more a desire to set up the high-stakes showdown with bad dudes than it could possibly be about predetermining where that arc ends up.
>>
>>38102931
>There's a point between "reading a book written by archelon" and "accepting completely foolish actions."
I remember when we ran into this situation with Shadow Quest, where at least Shadowmaster had the stones to admit he'd allowed his 'vision of how he wanted things to go' result in him acting against the players, and apologized for it.

..Somehow I don't see that happening here.

that was one of the moments that made the quest, having him admit to his fuck up made all the good and bad since thread 1 worth it. We even got to end the way Shadow would've wanted, not to gain anything for himself but giving back to everyone that believed in him on his journey. Ps. Man Fuck Erebutt

I feel like immediately assuming this is going to be Flintgate 2.0 is a little premature.

Rein was out classed by this guy, besides we need a few people to make sure his lackeys don't attrition us to death.
>>
>>38103018
Indeed. That story was a thrill from start to finish - I also love the fact that we had so many options to handle some situations non-violently and with intellectual outcomes being almost favored in some cases. Hell, the ending we got was the direct result of us playing it smart and allowing the players to work their magic - even in the face of a leap of faith.

>>
>>38102964
I think archelon has his heart in the right place, but it's frustrating me at this point. I really got so upset I almost quit a few nights ago.

Specific incident was the whole "Make the dense comment to Marianne about the massage." Maybe archelon had some other interpretation, but I (being the person who initiated the suggestion) suggested it mostly because I thought it would be a funny thing to tell Marianne. A lot of people voted for it, but it turned into 'even Reinhold is not that dense!' and then we basically did nothing but eat a sandwich. I just feel like even the simple little joys here and there get stripped out sometimes.

As for Leopold, if he wants to do this kind of event, fine, but I'd really rather something would have happened like he pulled this stuff where we really didn't have a way to stop it. Not in such a way where we really didn't fall for this at all but got forced into it. I'm getting a little tired of "Reinhold is astounded Adrien is Karel's father!" and "Reinhold is astounded that Leopold was the bad guy!"
>>
>>38103041
>Rein was out classed by this guy
I don't know, we didn't get a chance to fight him because of the hostages
>>
>>38103041
I'm not sure about outclassed, more like there were noncoms he could threaten and he has an AOE-applicable power that none of us could trivially neutralize.

In a 1v1 I'd bet money on Rein, he's fairly specialized into Fox Only No Items Final Destination combat.
>>
>>38103024
>blabbed a friends secret
while I'm still not happy with how we did it, I still say letting Charlotte know our friend had a copy of the book, not that I didn't trust Teresa but having a copy of that when people are actively searching for it is never good. I'm still waiting for Irene's sister or the Qlipoth the find out she has it somehow and have keeping it backfire SOO hard
>after pulling a Sylvie on her
okay that we never did, not once did CC vote to do anything to Teresa, it was always Teresa that instigated
>the kiss to wake her up when she went after wolf girl
>having Blind Spot start shlicking herself to a sleeping CC
>Teresa telling CC that she was Teresa bait when CC wore that dress
at least with Sylvie everyone can agree we lead her on for a long while

>>38103024
You have no idea what metagaming even means. Metagaming is using OOC knowledge to figure something out. Unless you believe everyone here is someone who is heavily trained in intrigue far beyond Reinhold there is no way this is metagaming. It's not like archelon had some aside where Leopold was plotting in a dark room to tip us off or something.
>>

I pretty much agree on the massage comment being too willfully oblivious, though, so no real sympathy from me there.

It's a rough balance to try and get our deductions through, and I do agree that it's mostly felt like it's too far on the side of not getting it in some of those situations, though.

>>
>>38103135
Well, enough people didn't agree it was completely wrong and it's not like someone was going to die over it. It was just a joke. Even if it was a dense and ridiculous one (I admit it was when I suggested it) it still legitimately won. I don't think anything should be vetoed unless it's really OOC and causes real damage.
>>
What was the crass comment again?

On m'y phone still.
>>
>>38103148
It was not crass. It would have been crass if it was sexual. Do you live in some weird world where massages are all pornographic?
>>
>>38103166
Basically suggested telling Marianne that we gave Lucianna a massage and it apparently went poorly because she just went to bed afterwards.

To specify: No one said "massage where she acted too excited" or "went to bed to do lewd things."
>>
>>38103175
Don't even misrepresent it like that, the massage was super fucking sexual and the comment made that fact abundantly clear. Marianne wouldn't want to hear it, and Reinhold had no good reason to go saying it.
>>
>>38103194
I was who made the suggestion so I'm pretty sure I know what I suggested.

See >>38103191 and stop acting like an autist.
>>
>>38103159
I'll take a slight leaning in favor of character 'agency' over leaning slightly in favor of absolute majority rule.

>>38103175
IIRC the suggestion was to deadpan about how we must be bad at massages or whatever because Luciana went off by herself after our massage as an oblique joke about her feeling blueballed by it and going off alone to satisfy herself.

It was unreal stupid since the player motivation for suggesting it was completely at odds with the proposed character motivation for actually saying it.
>>
>>38103191
It was made 100% crystal clear through the obvious subtext. We would have been sitting there bragging about how wet we made our girlfriend.

Just because it wasn't literally stating "HEY I MADE HER CREAM HER PANTIES" doesn't mean that wasn't the obvious intent and meaning.
>>
>>38103175
While not always sexual, it is a very intimate thing and not something other people generally want to hear about.
>>
>>38103209
You knowing what you suggested is nice and all, but it came off entirely differently than how you apparently intended it. It came off like we were just going to suddenly start bragging about how we made Luciana sopping wet.

I'm sure it sounded great in your head.
>>
>>38103209
Here's my issue; regardless of your motivations for proposing it to begin with, the prevailing opinion that supported it was overwhelmingly about hammering away at the double entendre.
>>
>>38103087
>Specific incident was the whole "Make the dense comment to Marianne about the massage."
That comment was really fucking stupid.
>>
>>38103159
You're mad because arch didn't go with what was an obviously stupid thing to do. So stupid that you and everyone who voted for it knew exactly what you were doing.

Wow.
>>
>>38103210
>I'll take a slight leaning in favor of character 'agency' over leaning slightly in favor of absolute majority rule.
So why are we with Luci?
>>
>>38103225
Not really? I have seen plenty of people just do it for friends or whatever. And of course you can go to (perfectly legit) massage places for therapy. I have done so myself due to headaches.

>>38103219
So far as the intent, it was to do no more than basically repeat what Elena told us. Reinhold, IC, did not actually go "she completely creamed her panties" or even think anything of the sort. That was just people in the thread. Marianne was asking how things went and so we tell her.

Might she have come to such a conclusion? Sure, I don't deny it. My preferred intention was mostly farming a facepalm from Marianne over being dense.
>>
>>38103266
Because theoretically every main girl in the quest was being handled as a potential love interest, so ultimately none of the possible choices would've been far enough outside the realm of Reinhold-possibility to be vetoed.

That's just the devil's advocate position, since I don't particularly like how it was handled either, but trying to rehash this whole thing again seems a little silly.
>>
>>38103283
You need to understand it didn't come off like that at all.

Most of the people who supported it did so because of the stupidly blatant sexual overtones, and were vocal about such.
The people against it also did so because of the stupidly blatant sexual overtones.
What you intended and what the comment turned into once you posted are two entirely different things. What you MEANT is largely irrelevant, because we aren't mind readers.
>>
>>38103283
It had lots of overtones anon, intentional or not, which is why it got so many votes. Additionally, I'm pretty sure Reinhold isn't THAT dense, nor would Marianne react with just a faceplam if we told her.
>>
>>38103283
You confuse intimacy with sexuality, and no, even people who do massages will tell you it's a very intimate thing.
