The sky is a firm, uniform grey as you clamber back into your tank, briefing dossier in hand. You put it into your map holder. Sarah is seated in front of you, eyes to her scope. You keep the tank unbuttoned so you can watch the road, as Susan puts the tank into motion.
"Erich," you yell at your gunner. "Here's the deal. We're going on our first mission. Bandits have set up in the tank graveyards, and they might be moving into town. We're gonna clear them out. You got all that?"
"Jawohl, Panzerkommandant," he replies. "We will be shooting people this time, ja?"
"Maybe just their tanks," you say. You grab the map out of the briefing dossier. It was a contour map showing the last known positions of the enemy, as well as the locations of the Wiesel recon platoon and your designated meeting area with 'Megatron'.

The meeting area was on the southern fringe of the tank graveyards, the closest edge to town. However, it meant that you would be at the same elevation as the many dead tanks of the graveyard, and visibility would be cut. There was a small hill at the edge of some forest some ways to the east, that would allow you much better visibility, allowing you views of the meet point and the graveyards, but it offered less cover apart from the hill itself.

"Susan, can you go to this location?" You read out the directions to the meeting point on the map.
"On it, commander."
The dirt road through the forest between town and the graveyards is pockmarked with ancient shell craters from the Great War long, long ago. Fulda had always been an avenue of invasion. The tank graveyard wasn't just tanks from thirty years ago, but was also full of much older, ancient wrecks, some even dating back to the Great War that ended the world. Now, on these hallowed grounds, you were about to go through your own trial by fire. On your left was a wreck so old that an oak tree had grown over it. Hopefully you don't end up like that one did.

You burst back into the overcast sunlight as you leave the cover of the trees. Before you is the Fulda Tank Graveyard. For as far as the horizon, there was nothing but dead tanks, of all shapes, makes and sizes. Susan takes you up to the edge of the graveyard and brings the armoured war machine to a halt. Sitting in your hatch and unbuttoned, you were able to just see over the top of the wrecks, but you weren't able to spot anything. The most notable omission, though was the lack of 'Megatron'. You weren't sure what kind of tank Megatron was supposed to be, but you're fairly sure none of these run down rust buckets are it, with the reverence that the THO woman was talking about it.

"Where do you think our back-up is?" asks Sarah.
"No idea," you reply, scanning the horizon. You try and keep your ears pricked over the sound of Fury idling, but you can't hear any other engines. In the distance you can hear cannon fire, but if you're honest with yourself, when do you NOT hear that?

You turn up the radio set and begin turning the dial, changing the channels in the hope of getting some chatter. With your other ear you keep listening for sounds outside of the tank.
It's mostly static, with one channel having a couple people muttering in Russian. You listen for a while, but it seems to be in code, and you hardly speak Russian anyway. Even though that might be the bandits, you keep scanning.

The distant cannonfire seems to intensify, though you don't know what the hell everyone is shooting at. Finally you flick over to something you can understand.
"-see him, firing."
"There's another on the treeline."
"Roger that, acquired."
"Where the fuck did all these guys come from?"
Someone out there somewhere was having an intense fight, it seems. You scan through the rest of the channels, but you can't find anything else. You could break in on the people speaking English, or maybe break in on the Russians. Or you could keep waiting for Megatron to show up.

You change to channel 255, and start broadcasting.
"This is Edelweiss to Megatron, come in Megatron."
"..."
"Uh, I repeat, Edelweiss to Megatron, we're waiting at the meeting point. You there?"
"..... Edelweiss, this is Wiesel 1, are you there?" A female voice asks.
You jump at the radio contact. "Finally, a friendly voice. Wiesel 1, what's the situation?"
"Edelweiss, get out of there now. The bandits got reinforcements in the night, snuck up on us. Took the women, shot the men. I managed to hide, but they'll be back. You gotta get out of there."
You don't have time to fuck around. "How many reinforcements?"
"Dozens. Most of them moved on to the town, but the original bandit force is still in the graveyards."
"So that firefight I hear in the distance, that's a battle going on?"
"I assume so."
"Shit. Where are you? We'll pick you up and take you back to town."
"Don't worry about me. I can sneak out on foot."

A new voice cuts on over the emergency channel. "THO Fulda to any available tank hunters, we are requesting assistance repelling a bandit attack in Fulda. Please assist as soon as possible."
Seems like your trial by fire is about to begin in earnest.

>>
>>38052321
That town is our home, and kind of needs our help, and you said it yourself, these bandits in the field aren't doing anything, so why would we waste our time on them when our home is under attack by a large force of bandits? That doesn't make sense.
>>
>>38052346
because I suck at prioritizing?

Part of my brain also says Megatron is raising hell in Fulda, and if the bandits start loosing, they call for re-enforcements. We could kill those reserves, or at least mess them up. Maybe they call the town bandits back for help while we GTFO.

Or its a crap plan.
>>
>>38052405
>Or its a crap plan.
I'm pretty sure its that.

As awesome as Megatron may be, they can't hold out alone against dozens of reinforcements without help.

"Wiesel 1, I insist. We're coming to get you out. Now where are you?"
"Okay Edelweiss, fine. I'm 40 yards south of the scouts marked position. Please hurry."
"Hang in there, Wiesel 1. We're coming to get you." You swap back to intercom. "Alright everyone, this is it. We're grabbing Wiesel 1 and heading back to town to get into that scrap. We'll probably take contact, so get ready to fight."
"Roger that, commandant," comes three voices. Erich loads a round into the cannon, and Susan puts it into gear.

Susan takes you north at your direction, towards the location Wiesel 1 had described. You take it slow, using wrecks as cover. You stop behind a wrecked M60, with your turret turned towards where the bandit's positions are supposed to be.
"Wiesel 1, we're 100 yards south of your marked position. Where are you?"
"My wiesel is next to a destroyed T-55. I think the bandits may be nearby."
"Okay Wiesel 1, here's what we're-"

You're interrupted by shells striking the front of the turret.
"Holy god damn shit!" you scream as you button yourself up in record time. The sound of small shells smacking the front of your turret is deafening inside it, making you disoriented.
"Where the fuck is that coming from?" you yell.

"Everyone, calm down!" you say, as much for your benefit as your crew's. You look through your periscope, following the tracers back to their source. You spot what looks like a BMP-2 wreck firing at you with its cannon. "Target spotted!" you call. "Bringing you on target." You bring the cannon around on the BMP, but curse as it darts away behind the other tank wrecks.

"Edelweiss!" comes the desperate voice of Wiesel 1 over the radio. "They're near me! They've nearly found me!"
"Hang in there Wiesel 1, we're handling it!" you say.

"Susan, step on it! Straight to Wiesel 1!"
"On it!" She replies as she pushes the Leo into motion. There's a deafening screech as your tank rubs up against one of the wrecks, but you push past it. Susan slots the Leo between wrecks at speed and you do your best to make sure the gun doesn't get caught on anything. Susan even demolishes what looked like some sort of small artillery tractor.

You round another wreck and come across a BMP parked to a Wiesel AWC, the BMP crew out of their vehicle and approaching the Wiesel with guns drawn. They all turn towards you in surprise.

"Strafe them with the coax," you tell Sarah.
"Roger that, commander," Sarah replies, grimly. The coaxial MG fires off a burst as the turret turns from side to side, and you watch the bandits get gunned down or flee for cover. The ones that get away throw their weapons away, opting to live another day.
"Targets neutralised," Sarah says, deadpan.
"Susan, bring us beside the Wiesel," you order. Susan drives the Leopard up and parks it beside the wiesel. You pop your head out of the hatch and cup your hands around your mouth. "Wiesel 1, you in there? Hop on!"

The tiny armoured vehicle's hatch pops open, and an equally tiny young girl hops out. "Thank you, thank you so much Edelweiss!" she cries as she scrambles up the turret and on top of the tank.
"Uh, no problem," you say. She can't be taller than your shoulder, and you're not that tall yourself.
"Is there going to be enough room inside?" she asks.
"Oh, that will definitely not be a problem," you reply. She doesn't wait for you to make room, she just squeezes into the hatch past you.
"Oh wow! It's like a house in here!" she exclaims as she stands inside the turret. You could stack two of her on top of the other and they'd still fit. She finds a corner out of the way where she can curl up, and gives you a thumbs up. Erich just stares at her.
"Susan," you say. "We've rescued our target, let's move."

We've got that big battle to help out at, we need to defend our town and earn our pay. Hunting bandits here gets us nothing and deprives our home of a defender it greatly needs right now with that massive attack going on.
>>
>>38054513
>>Clear out and head back to town
>>
"Back to town, go go go," you say. Susan turns the tank around, threading it through the wrecks, back towards the forest to the south.
"Thank you so much for rescuing me, I don't know what would have happened if they found me."
"Don't worry, you're safe now," you tell her.
"They shot Hans. Hans was so nice, he didn't want to shoot anyone, but he got shot himself. And they took Bernie and Nancy, but they missed me. What if they had found me?"
"Hey!" you interrupt her. "You're safe now, we're taking you home. What's your name, anyway?"
"P-Pearl," she sniffles. "Pearl Emmett."
"That's a nice name, Pearl. How old are you?"
"Nineteen." Huh. She's older than you.
"Well Pearl, we'll get you out of here. Don't worry."
"Thank you, Edelweiss."

The quickest way out of the tank graveyards is up that small hill you were considering before. Susan drives you up and over, but as you cross the peak, you take some more fire from BMPs. Pearl shrieks, and you grit your teeth. You don't know if you could get used to that sound. You look around with your periscope and realise you have a near perfect shot on the BMP. It's out in a clear space between wrecks.
"Susan, hold!" you say. "Sarah, bringing you on target."
The turret rotates painfully slow, but the BMP doesn't seem to realise and it stays in the open firing pot shots at you. You get the gun on target and give the controls back to Sarah, and that's when the BMP seems to realise. But it's already too late.

The BMP tries to accelerate into cover, but Sarah has already fired. The shell arcs into the side armour of the IFV and it detonates instantly, sending the turret sky high,
The most astonishing thing is that another shell crosses your line of sight from the left to right, arcing into a wrecked T-62 that had its gun pointed towards you. Suddenly, the T-62's hatches explode outwards as flames soar skywards! It was a bandit's tank.

Over the radio you hear a smug British accent. "Saved your arse, Edelweiss! Were you waiting on the Megatron?"

"More fuckin' tossers, I think. Dozens of the chucklefucks. We're cleaning them up, though, there was a platoon of the Dark Horse passing through when the call went up, they fuckin' rode in and routed the bandit fucks." You hear him cough. "Oi Eggy, fancy a cuppa?"

Well its a toss up between finishing off the bandits here and potentially saving them or heading back to Fulda where there is a massive attack going on.

I'd really like to stay and rescue her squadmates but that seems kind of callous to ignore the bigass battle, we know pretty much about it other than there were more than 24 tanks that attacked it and the Dark Horse rolled up, actually...

"Hello Edelweiss. The bandit attack is currently under control. We have taken few losses, but there are reinforcements on the way, some from as far out as Frankfurt. We're rallying for a counter attack her, though, so if you want to contribute you can hurry back. We'll debrief you about the mission at another time. Out."
