Hey all. No big changes to the mechanics or anything today. However I do want to note that HOLY SHIT last thread is one of my best three according to the archives. Glad you guys enjoyed it, I’ll try to keep it up. Other than that, let’s have fun tonight, I’ve got plenty of material so we should have a nice long run. Might be a break in the middle, but I’ll try to minimize it as best I can.

>Fate Point:1
>Money: $90
>Equipment: Tier 1 Assault Rifle. Tier 1 Armor (+2 wounds). Tier 1 Pistol. Standard Ammo (3). Tier 1 Knife. Tier 1 Bandolier. (Carry Capacity, 1 Ammo, 1 Misc) Clothes (3). Blanket (2).

The past week has been…strange, for you. For one thing, there have been no missions for you to go on and you’ve been told by Mary and Morrigan is actually completely normal, Mercs charge so much because they know they won’t have something to do every day. The other things that’s been strange for you is how much…time, you seem to have. The MMS building is solid, you’ve made sure to check everything but the private rooms and you only found solid structure. With no missions to go on either, you’ve had no guns to clean or check, you tried one day and Morrigan stopped you since they were, “Already fucking clean so go do something else.”

That’s left you with plenty of time to read the books Mary gave you, mostly the first-aid book, but you’ve also spent hours going through the dictionary since it has lots of words in it that are also useful. You hope to understand what everyone else is talking about more often. You’ve also worked out with Cath every time she’s asked you, you think you’re getting stronger. You feel stronger at least. They’ve also been making sure to feed you a lot, lots of bread and soup with new things in it. Like meat. You’re pretty sure you like meat.

>+1 P for Billy. (Working out + better food, don’t expect another one so easily.)

Currently you’re asleep, dreaming once again. Dreaming has become a lot more normal for you since you’ve been at MMS. But your dreams are still troubled.

What do you dream of this time?
>The crash, again.
>Your first battle.
>The last mission.

Normally your dreams are troubled at best, vague images that haunt your sleeping hours. Sometimes they go to full blown nightmares, but you haven’t told anyone about them, it’s not like they’re something that you can bother them with anyway, that would mean waking them up. Tonight however, your dreams are strangely untroubled. The most you can remember is a vague white light just before you wake up, you think you see a silhouette but can’t be sure as suddenly your eyes flash open.

Early morning sunlight filters through your window, landing directly on your pile of blankets and the pillow that you still think is one of the best things in the world. Looking around, you realize that nobody came to wake you up today. Everybody had been taking turns waking you up, Nem only doing it once while Cath, Morrigan and Mary had all done it at least twice. A brief spike of terror shoots through you as you realize that if you don’t hurry they might be mad at you, you quickly don your cleanest set of clothes and put your pistol belt over it, checking to make sure it’s on safe.

Hurrying down the stairs while trying to be quiet, you turn towards the kitchen door and see that it’s closed despite probably being time for breakfast. As you approach the door, you can hear voices behind it, slightly raised if anything. Slowing your approach briefly you…

You don't lose the ability to work with technology if you take first aid courses...

That's not how the human brain works anon, hell medical treatment and mechanical ability are two entirely different tiers of skills, when you learn your secondary and tertiary specializations when you get your role in the military 'going medic' is secondary and 'going mechanic' is tertiary, meaning you have both.

You remember from your time at The Compound, that learning and doing what the others wanted you to do before they told you and then having it done early often saved you a beating. Sometimes they even told you good job! The girls from MMS still haven’t hit you, which you like, but you’re still waiting on something bad enough to happen so they do. Maybe you can find out if there’s something they want you to do if you listen. You just hope you don’t get caught, that hurts a lot.

You take the few more steps necessary to place your ear next to the door and begin to listen to the conversation.

“…don’t see why it needs to be now of all times,” you hear Mary say, “he’s only been here a week.”

“The kid doesn’t know what SEX is,” you hear Morrigan saying, “The first night I just thought he was a little dense or playing her, but he had NO FUCKING CLUE what that other girl was asking him Mary.”

“She wasn’t exactly direct with him either if what you told me is true,” Mary replies.

“He doesn’t remember sleeping on a bed,” you hear Nem say, “A bed. I thought you were joking or he was pulling our leg, but when I went in he was on the floor.”

“He’s at least sixteen,” says Morrigan, “probably older since he’s been filling out so fast from the food. That means he should have urges just like anybody else. I haven’t seen him so much as acknowledge the fact that we’re all women.”

“So?” says Mary, “Do you want him to ogle your ass all the time?”

“No damnit,” Morrigan says, “You know better than that. But even if he was the nicest fucker on the planet, he would’ve at least LOOKED by now Mary. Watch his eyes sometime a book, his rifle, food, or any one of us they all look the same.”

“Surely…” you hear Mary say, “Cath, surely he’s at least looked at you while you were working out?”

You don’t hear if Cath says anything or not, she’s too quiet to have her words make it through the door.

There’s a pause and it’s almost long enough for you to think it’s ok to go in.

“He’s really that bad?” you barely hear Mary say.

“We’ve all got issues Mary, even you,” Morrigan says, “But I’ve seen windup toys with more self-determination than him.”

“So what do we do?” you hear Nem ask.

“I don’t know,” says Morrigan, “I kill stuff, not fix people’s heads.”

There’s silence then, another long one that finally results in the scraping of a chair on the floor.

“I’ll go wake him up,” you hear Mary’s voice say, “Otherwise his food will get cold.”

With that you recognize your moment and step back quietly from the door before then walking back to it and opening the door. Mary’s part of the way to the door, her face still set, with Morrigan, Cath and Nem still at the table.

“Will!” says Mary with a smile suddenly appearing on her face, her tone changing drastically from before, “You’re up. Did you sleep well?”

“Yes,” you say, moving towards the table and the large plate of food set out for you.

“Good,” she says as you sit, pulling a glass of milk out for you, “Did you have any idea what you were going to do today?”

That’s another thing, lately they’ve been asking you what YOU want to do. It’s a little strange, so mostly you try to make yourself useful. You’ve almost got that whole book down by now.

“Maybe you should try looking about town today?” says Mary with a smile.

“It’s workout day…” you say, slightly confused. Working out is good, Cath does it and you’ve been getting better at it.

Mary’s face flickers and she glances at Cath, then turns back to you.

“Alright,” she says, “But when you’re done you should go outside, maybe talk to people.”

You nod at Mary, unsure as to why you should be talking to people, but you can go outside.

“Good,” she says, smiling at you, “You finish your food and let it digest, then go with Cath ok?”

You nod, eating your food at a nice steady pace that combines speed with letting you taste Mary’s cooking, which is still the best stuff you remember ever eating. Nem gives you a brief smile before heading out and Morrigan simply heads upstairs after a brief greeting. Cath nods at you and heads towards the weight room, presumably to set up the weights.

As you finish eating, Cath comes back into the room and sits next to you, Mary taking away your dishes and washing them before you can do anything. It makes you feel weird, not having something to do. You wait with Cath as Mary goes back out to the lobby to read like she normally does.

You remember what they were talking about before you walked in, how you don’t know what “Sex” is. You’ve still got some time before you need to go workout, maybe you should ask Cath what it is? But then again maybe you shouldn’t, you did just listen in on them and it might give you away, if Cath hit you it’d probably hurt a lot.

>Ask Cath what sex is.

You decide that asking Cath so soon after they talked about it would be a bad idea. She also doesn’t talk very much, a word or two at most, so you doubt she’ll explain it to you anyway. Maybe you can ask Morrigan or Mary, they both seem to answer questions as long as you aren’t in trouble. Not that you’ve really been in trouble yet since they haven’t beat you, but that night with the strange lady definitely was bad.

Instead you simply wait until Cath taps you on the shoulder and nods, leading you back to the workout room. You enter and take off your shirt like you always do, turning to see Cath looking at you. She seems to be examining you closely, so you stay still. When she finally stops, she gestures towards the weights and you nod. This workout is much like all the rest, except Cath increases your weight a little bit. You’re still not anywhere near what Cath can lift, but you’re improving, being useful. By the times your workout ends, you’ve once again worked up a good sweat, Cath having done the same. You watch as she wipes sweat off her face with a towel and then nods, both of you heading upstairs to wash off. As you lead the way, you can feel Cath’s eyes on you. You wonder if you did something wrong. After changing, you start to head back downstairs, Cath also coming out of her room, Morrigan resting on the couch like she often does. You aren’t sure about this whole “People Watching” thing you’re supposed to be doing, but you think you’re supposed to do it alone. You could ask one of them though.

Two parter, you know the drill.
A.
>Go by yourself.
>Ask Morrigan to go with you.
>Ask Cath to go with you.

B.

Morrigan was the one who was worried about you talking to strange people, but you really aren’t sure what qualifies as “strange,” maybe you should ask her to go with you.

“Morrigan?” you ask, stopping before you head down the stairs.

“What Billy?” she asks, cocking her eye at you from the couch.

“I’m gonna go out like Mary said,” you reply, “Do you want to come?”

“Why the hell would I…” Morrigan stop and then sits upright before looking at you once more. “Sure,” she says, standing up and heading towards her room, “Just wait for me downstairs.”

You nod, heading downstairs and waiting for Morrigan like she said. Mary looks up from her book as you wait.

“Aren’t you going out Will?” she asks you.

You nod. “Waiting for Morrigan,” you reply.

“Morrigan?” says Mary, her eyes widening a little, “You mean she’s actually going with you?”

“You sound surprised,” says Morrigan, coming down the stairs with a new shirt on and her pistol belt.

“Most of the time I think you’re about to grow roots into the couch…” comments Mary, to which Morrigan sticks up her middle finger.

“I do what I want,” she says, turning towards the door, “Come on Billy, if we’re going to do this lets do this.”

You nod, following Morrigan outside as she first stretches her arms and then pulls out a cigarette.

“So where we going?” she asks, lighting her cigarette.

“People watching,” you say, looking around.

“People watching huh?” she says, “Let’s go then, you lead the way.”
>>
>>38046732
You pause but then start walking. You aren’t used to leading, but Morrigan is right beside you so you should be ok. She can just tell you if you’re wrong.

As you wander about, you watch the people. You aren’t really sure what it’s supposed to do, but you notice some things. Like how most people try not to bump into each other, but a few stop to greet others. Morrigan doesn’t say much as you wander about, your feet eventually leading you to where you started in Fort Riley, the army post. There are no trucks, but there are a few soldiers doing exercises, being led by a man you don’t recognize. Morrigan puffs on her cigarette as you stop to watch them.

“You like soldiers?” she asks you out of nowhere.

You pause for a minute before answering, thinking as you watch the soldiers finish their drill.

“They don’t shoot their prisoners,” you say.

This causes Morrigan to cough again, though this time only once as she had taken her cigarette out of her mouth before you answered.

“Damn it Billy,” she says, “One day I’m going to ask you a question and you aren’t going to do that to me.”

“Sorry,” you say, recognizing the tone of voice as the one she used the night she got upset.

“It’s fine Billy,” she says, puffing on her cigarette once more, “It’s just hard to hear things like that.”

You remain silent, watching as the soldier begin to clear out of the field.

“My dad was a soldier,” says Morrigan, watching the soldiers with you, “He’d be glad to hear you say that, that they still have honor.”

You pause, not sure if you should say anything or not, even what you should say. But before you can think of something Morrigan turns around, heading away from the army post.

“Come on Billy,” she says, “Let’s go somewhere else, I can’t stay here.”

You nod, following along beside Morrigan.

Where do you go?

Will is like Spiderman, he has problems, is more "human" and at the end of the day could wind up dead and replaced with a small african kid.

Esdeath wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't for that whole 'The weak deserve to die' thing she was raised on. Then again she'd likely be nothing like the character we know then so the point is kind of irrelevant I guess.

Morrigan stops taking the lead after you get a little away from the army post, making you choose the direction again. You don’t know where exactly to go, so you just follow a random path around town. You don’t happen to see a lot of people on this route, so you don’t get to do a lot of “People Watching” but you do get a little bit more knowledge of the town.

Eventually you wander onto a different street, a large building down at the end of it. Morrigan finally looks up as she tosses away her cigarette butt, then swears under her breath.

“Fuck,” she says, grabbing your shoulder as you walk, stopping your progress several buildings from the one at the end of the street.

You look up at her, confused.

“Billy,” she says, tugging you away from the building as several strangely dressed woman look on from the porch, “Don’t ever come down here again, ok?”

“Ok?” you say, Morrigan turning you around and leading you back down the street.

“There are lots of strange women at that place,” she says in way of explanation, reaching a corner, “They’ll offer to do things for you, but they’ll want your money first, don’t ever give them any ok?”

“Ok,” you say as you turn the corner, only to be greeted by a familiar face.

“You were about to corrupt him,” says the strange lady, “You almost let him be like them!” she points her hand at a pair of men who are walking down the street, both of whom glance at you strangely.

Morrigan is slightly shocked by the woman’s appearance, as are you.

“Morrigan, didn’t do anything,” you say to the lady.

“Of course she did!” says the lady, turning towards you, “Why else would you be here!”

“It’s my fault,” you say, ready to take responsibility like you normally do, “I came here. Morrigan said to not come back and not talk to the ladies there.” You pause then turn to Morrigan. “Am I not supposed to talk to her?” you ask, “You said I should ask.”

Morrigan, blinks then manages to find her voice again.

“No…I’m here, it’s ok,” she says, even as the other lady stares at you.

“You’re just so perfect!” says the lady, her hands reaching out towards you only for you to step back out of her reach.

Morrigan takes a step to the side, in front of you and between you and the woman.

“The hell’s your problem bitch?” says Morrigan, “I thought you said you weren’t going to cause trouble again? Or do I need to remind you?”

The lady stops what she is doing, her gaze still largely focused on you despite Morrigan being in the way.

“I’m not going to cause any trouble,” she says, “ I just wanted to spend some time with William here.”

“The hell…” says Morrigan, “Where’d you learn his name?”

“You haven’t exactly been quiet about it,” says the woman, smiling, “especially at Docs.”

“You’ve been following us around?” asks Morrigan.

“No,” says the woman, “I just happened to catch sight of you when you left the drill field.”

“Why the hell are you so worried about him anyway?” asks Morrigan, “you don’t even know him.”

“Oh but I want to,” says the woman, smiling even more, “Which is why I have a proposition for you.”

You come into this quest and try to turn it into some randumb crossover quest filled with your fetishes and characters from random animes and when you get shouted down by several anons for being stupid you attack them when they just want to play the quest as it is and not turn it into your magical realm...
>>
>>38049952
Actually I'd put her down like a rabid dog.

I seriously don't get this fetish some anons are having she's fucking nightmare fuel.
>>
>>38049952
>but you can't help but like?
Not at all, you can very much help it, and Will wouldn't like it anyway.
>>
>>38049952
pretty much she's the hot chick thats fucking crazy the your mom told you not to date but did anyway because she fucks like a crazy person.
>>
>>38049975
>I seriously don't get this fetish some anons are having she's fucking nightmare fuel.
They just see the picture of a character they fap to and think "Oh this will be so fun I love this character" and they just stop giving a shit about the actual quest and just want to fantasize and wank about wherever the character's source is from.

They should seriously look elsewhere for that instead of forcing it into this quest and shitting it up.
>>
>>38049920
No, it is pretty damn stupid to metagame like this. This Esdeath has shown herself to be nothing short of come-in-the-van-I-have-candy creepy. I'm not sure what she's like in the show, but you have to deal with this character, who may not be a 1:1 clone. She's demonstrated possessiveness and obsession with Will, and this is bad news for everyone. She will not help anything.

She isn't "sadist with a funny vanilla fetish", she's absolutely deranged, and a lot of people aren't seeing past her character image.
>>
>>38049942
From my impressions of her she seems quite loyal to her compatriots, though possessive of her toys.
>>
Eh if she starts shit, lets just sneak into her room one night put a knife to her neck and warn her to leave the team alone or we'll end her.

Will ain't gonna put up with anyone fucking with these nice ladies who don't hit him and let him have nice blankets.
>>
I'm going to say this once, like I did in HPQ.

Just because I use a character doesn't mean they'll be anything like the one they are in a show.

Just because I give them traits or take traits from their source doesn't mean they're completely like it.

I'd like all of you to take a damn deep breath, calm down and let the quest play out. I promise I've got this under control.
>>
>>38049974
Except this is the first you've replied to me. I am neither >>38049789 nor >>38049725 . I just find you apparently needing to 'faggot' this and 'scum' that more annoying than someone admitting they're voting for something because it's their fetish when they're going to vote the way they want regardless of whatever you say.

tl;dr We're both wasting our time really.
>>
>>38049822
I'm thinking along the lines of this anon. I like her, and I want her to show up in this quest; but I don't think she should be part of the team.
>>
>>38050075
>I just find you apparently needing to 'faggot' this and 'scum' that

You just shrug at Morrigan, still slightly concerned about the lady trying to grab you, but not really knowing why she’s asking you. It’s not like you’re in charge or what you think really matters.

When you give a shrug, Morrigan sighs, her eyes on you.

Then she turns back to the woman, her face hardening.

“Billy here doesn’t care,” she says, “Which isn’t all that surprising.”

“And?” asks the woman, smiling that weird smile of hers.

“And as much as I don’t like it I need more people,” says Morrigan, you unable to see her face since you’re behind you.

“So I’m in?” asks the woman.

“No, you’re not,” says Morrigan, leaning forward and pointing her finger at the lady, “You’re on trial, a damn hard one too. You fuck up, you’re out. You piss me off, you’re out. You piss off one of my team, you’re out. I see you fucking with Will in a way I don’t like, you’re out. If I decide I just don’t like you, you’re out. If I don’t think I can fucking trust you enough, you’re especially out. If you try to stab me in the back, I’ll fucking kill you. You got that?”

“Perfectly,” says the woman, her smile reappearing, “Shall I get my things?”

“Sure,” says Morrigan, pulling out another cigarette and lighting it, “You go grab your shit. I’m going back to our place, I’m sure you know where it is.”

“I do,” says the woman, “Shall I meet you there?”

“Yeah,” says Morrigan, blowing smoke out into the woman’s face, “You do that. Last thing though, what the fuck do I call you?”

“You can call me Belladona,” says the woman, “I’ll see you later then.”

She turns and waves goodbye to you, heading down the road with an extra-long step.

Morrigan waits until she’s most of the way down the road before she grabs you, her step nearly as long as she pulls you behind her.

“Billy,” she says, “I may have told that bitch she has a chance, but I really don’t like her.”

You just nod your head, even though you’re pretty sure she can’t see you.

“I promised Mary that I’d try to get more people, so I’m going to let her go on one mission with us, preferably soon and an easy one, but then she’s going to be gone unless she’s God’s gift to mercenaries. If she so much as looks at you funny I want you to tell me, ok?”

You try to nod your head, but Morrigan turns her head back at you.

“You tell me, you got that Billy?” she says.

“Yes,” you say, even as Morrigan pulls you into the market, heading directly towards the MMS building.

Morrigan nearly kicks the door in, stomping in two steps before stopping at the sight of another blonde girl standing in front of Mary’s desk, the two of them talking.

“Oh, there she is now,” says Mary, looking around the girl.

“Who the fuck is that?” as Morrigan, the anger still in her voice from earlier.

“This is Sarah,” says Mary, “she was wondering if we had any openings. I told her that we’d have to wait for you to get back to talk about it.” Mary’s voice has changed from what it normally is and her smile looks different you note.

Morrigan seems to be quiet again, staring at the girl.

I'm pretty sure everyone in the company is ducked up in the head. Morrg has an escapism problem and goes into alcohol and smokes also possibly daddy issues probably lack of closure, Cath is extremely shy or has a problem talking in general, Nem is a street rat turned Merc probably a klepto.

Also two threads ago during the barn raid Morrg said "there is a special place in he'll for people like you" and "tell the others there" which leads me to believe Morrg or another member of the company has had a run in with rapists before, and Morrg killed them.

Sorry for rant.

You just stay where you are, Morrigan seems to be slightly upset and Mary is acting funny, so you aren’t sure if you should go anywhere until they tell you you can.

“She wants to what?” says Morrigan.

“She wants to join MMS,” says Mary, her smile still seemingly stretched across her face.

“Why the hell weren’t you here a few hours ago!?” says Morrigan, “I just offered coocoo for coco puffs a shot to join up.”

“Say what a who?” asks Nem, coming downstairs.

“Creepy lady from the bar found us while we were walking,” says Morrigan, moving closer to the new girl, “Offered to join up. I said I’d give her a shot.”

“Really?” asks Nem, “You gonna give her one?”

“Fuck if I know,” says Morrigan, now standing in front of the other girl, “What the hell do you do?” she asks, “You look like you don’t know which end of a rifle is which.”

“I…I’m a sniper,” says the girl, “Long range shooting stuff.”

“And goddamn if we don’t need one of those,” says Morrigan, “I’d do it myself but I’m the goddamn leader.”

“S-so?” asks the girl.

“You get a shot,” says Morrigan, “But you fuck up you’re out, you go that?”

“Y-yeah,” says the girl.

“You got any gear?” asks Morrigan.

“J-just my rifle,” says the girl, pointing to a rather large looking rifle that had been set on top of Mary’s desk.

“Good,” says Morrigan, just as Bellona comes in, carrying a set of armor and an LMG, “Because I’m going to take both of you out as soon as possible.”

The day Will gets his first boner will be written in the history books as either the first time someone formed a gravitational field due to their denseness, or as the most flustered a group of female mercenaries ever became without it being that time of the month.

Or both.

Are mercenaries mostly female due to low male population from warfare and the fact most of them would be in the military or militias instead?
>>
>>38051892
Implying at least one of them isn't fucked up in the head about sex too.
>>
>>38051996
Mercenaries in general are actually mostly male. They just happen to be mostly segregated units.
>>
>>38052037
So we get put in a female unit by mistake? Or did the military think they'd mother us?
>>
>>38052063
The military has a list of all registered Merc companies and sends out those determined to be best suited for the Merc life out in a rotation that also includes the companies size. You happen to be MMS's first.
>>
>>38052131
So basically oversight mixed with meh it'll be fine? Sounds like Bureaucracy is alive and well in 2030.
>>
>>38052171
Yes. They just register the companies, not genders. If the company has a problem they send them back and they get sent out again to a different company unless they've "adjusted" enough for "normal" life.
>>
>>38052131
how much would it cost in post apocalyptic Merica to buy a Toyota and covert it into a technical?
>>
>>38052214
so how many of those mercs end up bandits or criminals?
>>
>>38052248
that would probably depend heavily on what weapon you put on the back of it.
>>
>>38052248
Depends. Quite a bit more than you're going to have any time soon.First you'd have to find and fix one using parts that would be difficult to find/build, especially the electrical system and oil based parts. Then you'd have to keep it up, mount an appropriate weapon, buy ALL the ammo and find a way to fuel it as gas is enormously expensive.

How many pre-apoc military forts are still around in the red zone? I imagine most of them are pretty bandit infested, or playing host to local warlords with dreams of grandeur.
