You've been adventuring for less than a week and you're already running a fever.

Not bad for a new adventurer of sorts. You presume that everyone gets sick once in a while, you certainly have, and so has anyone you knew of. Usually it's something that can be cured or will go away on its own, you've been told the most critical part is one's childhood, but you're an adult, so if you get sick it should be something your body should be capable of handling.

Then again you're in an unknown land, you're very very far from anyone who could cure you that you know of, and the fever you have is probably from something exotic your body hasn't experienced before.

You're riding on Leiana's back by now, she offered herself, even though you seem to understand it's not something she likes doing much, you suppose it's a matter of pride, kind of like with centaurs, but fortunately her pride is flexible enough to accomodate for your needs.

"Don't push yourself so hard!", Bryld reprimands you with a visible pout, "What are we going to do if you get too sick to move? We need you in good health".

You don't remember pushing yourself hard at all, you've been doing physical labour since you were young, and walking around a lot is something you do without problems. Then again, you're all in unfamiliar territory and you've been doing plenty of reconnaissance and experimentation on your own, including eating stuff that might have upset your stomach, and stuff that you knew would upset your everything.

Thinking about it, maybe you kind of were careless. Maybe you had it coming.

"We'll be at Susanna's place soon. She can treat you, don't worry", Leiana says. Arianna isn't very far and keeps staring at the two of you. There's a strange look on her face that you can't quite put your finger on.

I still don't know if that was a good or bad ting, but it was amusing anyway. Wish no one had replied, though, Sayaka is a terrible girl compared to the princess.

"I'm sorry", you tell your travelling companions. You don't actually feel too bad if it's someone else moving, but having been made aware that you are not in good health has made you actually feel somewhat unwell yourself. Or maybe it's just getting worse.

"Don't apologize, just rely on us!", Bryld reprimands you with a pout. You get the feeling she's trying her darndest to stay mad at you, but her eyes clearly betray that she is feeling more concern towards your condition than anything, in spite of her best efforts, "Delegate more, we can take care of it!".

"She's right", Tahenohan adds with a bright smile, "If you push yourself this far only to apologize later, you've just wasted effort".

Despite the half-elf's brutality, you must admit she does have a point. You blink, trying to get your eyes to burn less, and chuckle a bit as you look back at Bryld's cute pout, "Were my drawings usable, at least?".

She just sighs and facepalms, "Please Lillith just... Just rest, okay?".

Easy to say, but even though she's moving slowly, Leiana is still a bit of a rocky ride. Well, bouncy rather than rocky, and you got rather used to it by now, but still... "Uhm", you suddenly wonder, looking at Leiana and trying to not let her ponytail tickle your nose too much, "Won't you catch whatever it is that I have?".

"Unlikely", she doesn't sound concerned, "It's proably something Arianna and I already hardened to as kids. It doesn't look serious".

Body hardening is a known effect, once you pass some kind of disease, you won't catch it again... Usually. Clerics of Jure are still studying how it works, exactly, but they way you've been explained it sounds rather easy...

>She has long brown hair, perky ears of the same colour and red eyes; she is tall enough to be just a bit above average, or maybe it's her bunny ears that make her come out in a crowd. Although she usually dresses relatively simply and in unisex clothing, her unassuming dress code cannot hide her nice figure, nor the fact that she has a rather large breast despite not trying to flaunt it. She also has a puffy, fluffy brown bunny tail.
Hmm, is there any more description of Bryld done over the quest? I know the pastebins are somewhat outdated and there are more details in the quest itself, but I can't remember anything off the top of my head that might not be in the pastebin.

Nope, you're just too curious. You stare at Arianna and notice she's still staring at you. It's too big of a hint to not bite, even though you might possibly end up not liking it. "Is there anything wrong?", you ask while staring back at Arianna, wondering if you're breaking a taboo by being on Leiana's back.

"I wish someone would ride me", she claims with utterly abashing honesty.

"You can't hold her", Leiana immediately cuts the chase, "If any of your fur gets in touch with any part of her skin she's getting a rash that will last for days".

"Hmpf! I know!", and she crosses her arms under her large and well-toned breasts, "Thanks for reminding me!".

Leiana just facepalms. They don't seem to be like centaurs at all, there would certainly be quite a bit of explaining you'd need to do if you were found riding one. Granted, an emergency situation like this one would most likely justify it, but you can never be too sure. You should ask an actual centaur should you ever meet one.

"The disease I have...", you then ask to distract them from continuing this conversation, "Will my friends catch it too?".

"It's possible", Leiana answers, "Maybe they're already incubating it, it's just a matter of time before they run a fever too".

"It spreads lots and fast!", Arianna claims with a certain, oddly innocent glee, "Back when we were kids when one got sick we all would, in a matter of days".

"Yes, diseases in this place tend to do that". Well, that's reassuring. Bryld seems to pale a little, too.

"Is there anything we can do to prevent them from... Well, ending up like me?", you have to admit that given your peculiar skin tone, the fact you're running a fever isn't terribly obvious: where anyone else's skin would flush or turn darker, yours is... Well, mildly darker too, but you can't blame anyone for failing to notice, really.

"I don't know much about it", Leiana shrugs, "Let's ask Susanna once we arrive".

While that is the most reasonable course of action, it also kills the conversation immediately. Tahenohan does not seem to be concerned at all with the prospect of being sick, unlike Bryld; then again maybe she doesn't even get sick, who knows, you've heard all sorts of things about elves and can only wonder how much of that applies to your friend as well.

"You said this disease is nothing serious", you try to continue on something you figure would be useful, "Is there anything... Actually serious we should try to avoid getting?".

Leiana and Arianna look at each other and ponder, each on their own, for a little, before Arianna brightens up, "Oh! Brightpox is nasty".

"You can only get it if you get bitten by a green swamp leech", Leiana immediately adds, as if to reassure you, "So unless you're stupid and tread in murky water, you'll be fine".

"What's a green swamp leech?", Bryld asks with noticeable worry.

"It looks like a leech, but it's green, it's huge and has sharp mouth pincers that snap and cut your flesh", Arianna is enjoying this way too much, "And they give you a disease that makes shiny bulbous stuff grow from your skin and then it explodes and-".

And then Leiana gives her a long, hard stare and Arianna just stops.

Having nothing else of use to say, you just wait until your friends take you to your destination. Besides, all that talking was making your throat parched and really sore, which you're going to have to live with until you get better, you presume. Better not make it worse, if you can help it.

You climb up higher in the mountain until you reach a stream that flows down until it joins the lake you've bathed in before, and which you can see from this far, the sun glimmering on its clear surface, inviting you to go back and take another swim. The jungle gives way to an area somewhat less populated by trees, where you can look around and walk more freely; your arachne friends in particular are able to stretch their legs farther and trot around more confidently.

A barely visible path follows a high cliff, green thanks to moss, grass and all other sorts of vegetation that covers it completely. Looking up, you can see the mountain range from up close, and you can actually touch its face right now. It would be impossible for anyone but the two arachne to just walk up though, unless you followed the winding path, which doesn't seem to be your destination.

Instead, what seemed to be a small wooden hut in the distance turns out to be a very large cabin, made mainly of tree logs tied together, but with a proper door and even a reasonably-sized carpet in the front. Outside is a firepit and a cast iron barbecue that has seen quite a bit of use and might need replacing; a quite long and large table with two sets of two long benches hosts nothing at all right now, but would be capable of providing space to sit for at least twenty people.

There's also a few wooden stakes where some freshwater fish is being smoked, the embers on the firepit underneath still hot, as if someone recently stoked them.

"You stay here", Leiana tells Bryld and Tahenohan, motioning for them to stay around the dining area. There's still grass all over the place but it's low here, as if it's regularly cut, other than crushed by many feet, some of which pretty heavy. She and Arianna head towards the house, and before you wonder whether you should also dismount, Leiana goes "You don't talk until you're talked to first. Susanna is a nice person but she has... Let's just say her last dealings with humans weren't pretty".

The cabin you're in front of is huge, you would easily call it massive and it is, without doubt, impressive: it's as large as the Captain of the People's house back in Reboldeux, and that was quite a large house for human standards, especially in an overpopulated town with little space to expand. The design is deceptively simple and reminds you of an actual mountain cabin.

Arianna hops in front of Leiana and knocks on the massive door. Shortly after she does, you hear heavy footsteps quickly approaching and then the door opens, revealing its occupant.

The woman in front of you stands well over three metres tall, with a pair of lucid brown horns arcing ahead, not unlike those of a cow; she has deep blue eyes of equally impressive size and is wearing a light but very opaque dark violet dress, held up by a simple leather belt that also holds up a pair of black satin pants. Her very large feet are covered by simple yet sturdy-looking sandals.

She is obviously surprised at seeing Leiana, and nearly freezes when she notices you, her eyes growing somewhat colder as she stares, "... And who might you be?", she asks in a low, booming voice, even though it must be her normal tone.

"I am Lillith Taieart", you feel like you should weigh your words carefully here. The giantess in front of you is easily capable of squishing you in one hand, if her mere size is anything to go by in regards of her actual strength, and you're not in top condition, meaning you'd have little hope of escaping even if you tried, "I'm a travelling priestess, I-".

"She's fallen sick", Leiana interrupts you without even asking your opinion, and you feel she has that kind of grumpy tone she had before when she was actually shy, "I have no idea how to cure her so I brought her here. And also because she's a priestess of Ishtar, I figured you wanted to know".

The huge woman, who must be Susanna, gives you a long stare, then bends down and shows a kind, motherly smile to the arachne in front of here, "And where have you been all this time?".

"... I've been busy", is all Leiana says.

"Yes, I understand", Susanna's smile stays as she glances at you, but you feel it's a little forced, "A priestess of Ishtar, eh? I haven't seen one in a long while", she glances back at your two other friends, who stayed obediently behind. You can't help but notice Bryld holding Tahenohan tightly by the shoulders, which is what must be keeping her in place. It's not preventing her from waving vigorously, though.

Susanna still keeps that smile on her, "Lillith, was it? What brings you here?".

"I'm exploring the Shadow Marches and trying to meet the monsters that live here", you explain, trying to sound as friendly as possible. It's a little difficult seeing how your throat is parched to the point words grate on your throat as you utter them, "I haven't been doing this for very long, but I'm trying to help with what I can".

"Exploring for whom?", even though there's still the hint of a smile, Susanna's gaze is fixed on you and you hear the screech of something metallic brushing against the wooden floor as she picks something up from behind the wall, "Are you doing some kind of monster population census? On behalf of whom, I wonder?".

"She's actually been helping us", surprisingly, it's Arianna that comes in your defence, "She convinced Leiana to come over to my place and now we're living together. Also she's fun". It seems like Leiana was about to say something, but having more common sense than her friend makes her shut her mouth closed instead.

"Oh, indeed", it's alarming how Susanna can keep smiling despite having pulled a sword into view. It's one of those giant, two-handed swords that only crazy people or adventurers would wield, except it's made for a giant's size. It's more than a full body mirror for you. "So tell me... Lillith, was it?".

"Yes", you answer. Not that you have a choice.

"Tell me, exactly, what you plan to do with the kind of information you have collected, especially regarding the whereabouts of my two friends' house and my own cabin". She's still smiling, but you know you could get a terrible case of beheading if you don't answer correctly.

>>
"I have an Exploration Charter on the behalf of the Duke of Reboldeux", your reasoning is that you have to be honest with her, as you find it counter-productive to lie to someone whose trust you're trying to win. Also, she has a sword that is larger than you and doesn't seem to have many qualms about using it, "I am trying to chart the Shadow Marches again, and also earn a living while I'm at it".

Susanna nods, still smiling. You can see your reflection on her sword, you can also see Leiana's reflection and she looks somewhat relaxed, so she's probably not taking it tremendously bad. "I see. Is that all?".

"I am also helping Astreya with her duties", you add, "And, well, I would like to help you get... Integrated", you look for the right words, but presume that, amongst monsters, you can be a bit more frank, "Well, Arianna needs a mate and I've heard all arachne need to repopulate, it just happens that I have been bestowed divine powers to help with that".

Your voice has been getting darker and darker, not because of your feelings but because speaking is getting more and more difficult. Leiana undoes the latch on her own, oversized waterskin and hands it to you, which means it's okay to drink even though you're talking with Susanna. All in all, it doesn't seem to be going terribly bad.

"I see", Susanna nods again, "So... Who is it that's going to draw this beautiful map of the place?".

Her smile has something odd in it.

"Why do you want to know?", you ask, even though you have an inkling as to what her reason is.

"Just curious", she says, but you don't buy it.

"I'm the leader of this expedition, you should address me if you have any requests", even if you fully realize these might be your last words, you don't want to let someone step on your friends. You protected Bryld from an annoying demon before, you can save her from being bullied by an ogre right now.

"My my, aren't quite the brave commander?", and she chuckles, she'd sound girly if her voice didn't boom in your ears; it may be the fever, but you're aware that it's mostly due to the size of her lungs, "Are you afraid I'm going to hurt someone?".

"You want to keep your home hidden, am I right?".

Moments of silence pass, enough to make her smile die out a little, though her expression does remain... Friendly enough, you guess.

"And you're smart too", she adds, "We might just become friends, if only-".

"Susanna, please", Leiana intervenes with a sigh, "I know what you mean, I didn't want to trust her either at first, but she's really a priestess of Ishtar, and she's running a fever, and her friends are going to as well", she pauses, "I need your help, I don't know how to treat them".

More moments of silence pass, each of your own breaths parches your throat more, its constant grating having become a chronic pain to you by now. In the end, Susanna's sword disappears once again somewhere out of sight, leaning heavily against the cabin's log wall as she steps inside.

"Bring her in then", she agrees with a near-sigh, "And her friends too. But be warned: Astreya is the only human I have trusted within my home in a long time. I am still not convinced we can be friends".

"Thank you", is all you offer with a kind smile as you're brought inside. You can't help but notice that the giantess seems to be taken aback from your reaction, as if she expected something... Different.

The inside of the cabin is certainly some sight to behold. It's like being in an ordinary mountain cabin, except it has a soft carpet made from hides of various animals patched together, and you presume it feels soft to the touch as they all have very short, trimmed fur, so it mustn't feel hot on the feet. There are plenty of windows, most of which are open, and even a staircase that leads to an attic that faces a french window to a balcony in the back, which has plenty of plants and very colourful flowers.

All the furniture, especially the bed, is giant-size, meaning you get laid on a bed in which you could run around; you feel like you've gone back to being a baby and sneaking up in the abbess' bed because you had a bad dream. The size comparison certainly gives you that impression.

"She's drenched in sweat", Susanna declares, even though that much was obvious to everyone, "Keep her company, I'm getting a basin to wash her". It's a bit weird to know that an ordinary household item could work as a bathing tub for you, but then again that's a giantess for you.

In the meantime, Arianna went to fetch Bryld and Tahenohan, who climb on the bed and sit right next to you. "Wow, this place is HUGE!", the half-elf claims, excitedly looking around. Bryld doesn't share the same sentiment, as her expression is filled with worry instead.

"Don't worry about Susanna", Leiana reassures you, the bed is large even for someone her size, and she's huge already, "She knows you're a good person, but she was wounded in the past".

Because saying "we're not X group, you can trust us" is counterproductive when you're trying to help people interact with X group ?
>>

But they're all half-human.
It sees like no one we've run into so far has either noticed or cared either, so just roll with it.
>>
>>38025331
Genetically, they are practically human, except for Tahenohan, who's a half-elf. Still has half-human in her, though.
>>
"This place is huge!", you can't help but mimic Tahenohan, who goes, "I know, right?", and grab your hands in glee, "Oh, oh, ooooh! Lillith, Lillith, I so want to climb on her cutting board, fill the sink with water and cross it with a platter, using a spoon for an oar!".

"I... She's not that much of a giant", you frown. She's... "just" over three metres tall, but you'd guess less than four. She's at least twice as tall as you, and with room to spare. Definitely a giant, but you can't be swimming in her sink. You could still drown if you dunk your head in there, but not swim, and certainly not cross it with a boat. "She's an ogre, right?", you ask, mostly at Leiana and Arianna, who is actually a bit too busy jumping on the bed and actually making it bend and bumping you around a little, since she's so tremendously heavy. For human standards, that is.

"An ogre magi", Leiana specifies, "If you ever do mention it, please call her an ogre magi, it's an important difference". And you don't know it, you hope it's not the kind of difference that saves your life.

"Does she teach here?", you ask, remembering that she's actually a teacher.

"Not in the house, she teaches outside. Harpies are... Not exactly fond of being indoors", she says, then she also adds: "And they're even more difficult to handle in such a situation".

"Difficult to handle?", you ask.

"You ever met harpies?".

You totally know what she means, yes.

"You two seem to be good friends", you then point out, and Leiana sighs.

"Well... I've always liked her, it's just that... We haven't seen each other for a long time".

>"Any good memories of her?".
>"What is she like?".
>"What's the difference between an ogre and ogre magi?".
>"Does Arianna come here often?".
>"Are the harpies coming today?".
>Other?

Cause we don't need to deal with them.

I hope they are, to be honest.

Please, we don't have the strength to fend off any curiosity at the moment. Our secret could be in danger.
>>
>>38025636
Exactly, anon. I don`t want Lillith to suffer, but the tension from having harpies around was too much fun.
>>
>>38025670
You're a loose cannon, anon!
>>
"Are the harpies coming today?", you ask with poorly hidden alarm, and probably bloodshot eyes. You wouldn't have difficulties hiding a potential boner considering how you're feeling today, but the problem is that you don't know if you can actually stomach their very presence, because they're just that annoying, even if you're not running the risk of being gangraped.

"Nope", Arianna stops jumping (thankfully), to join you, careful to not brush against your body with those giant, hairy legs of her. "They would already be there if they were, they usually come in the late morning and stay until mid-afternoon".

You let out a sigh of relief. Good. You've already got enough to deal with as it is.

"So", you ask Leiana, "What's the difference between an ogre and an ogre magi?".

"Well...", she scratches her head, lowering her voice, "I... I'm not sure myself. From what I understand, if you're a magic user you're an ogre magi... And that's it".

Arianna nods in agreement, "Yep, that ought to be it. Makes sense".

Well that was... Easier than you thought.

"What is Susanna like, then?", you ask Leiana, who seems to have good memories of her, "Any interesting stories you can tell me?".

Leiana makes a strange face, until Susanna comes back, the door closing behind her. She is holding a large basin of water, probably the kind of container she would use to hold a salad, but since it's giantess-sized, it's large enough to work as an impromptu bathtub for you, "I'm back! Let me heat this up a little, the water from the stream comes right from the spring up at the top of the Iron Mountain, and it's really cold. You shouldn't bathe in that while you're sick".

And she smiles at you as she does that. Looks like it's bath time...

And this is it for episode 21!

I'm sorry if it ran short but I have to work in the morning, so I can't stay up until too late. Hopefully I'll be able to pull a proper session next week, we haven't had one in a while.

I'll be archiving this and then heading to bed. Stay tuned on Twitter for Episode 22!
