+++
We have defeated renegade and after years of absence Chapter Master is returning to Sector Deus.
+++
Initiates are welcome. Survival not guaranteed.
>>
After the dust of the battle settled, Chapter Master had a number of important decisions to make.

+Should Imperium claim Quixos' legacy?
1. No, purge it all. [Respect from Kaldor, Eisenhorn unhappy]
2. Salvage some of it, pick what. [Both Kaldor and Eisenhorn unhappy]
3. We must preserve and study it. Decide who gets what. [Eisenhorn happy, Kaldor unhappy]
+++
Quixos' legacy:
+Kharnagar the Deathly
+Anti-Warp Pylon
+Research notes on Cadian Pylons
+Daemonology tomes
+Daemonhost creation toolkit

>+Kharnagar the Deathly
Entrust it to Kaldor. Destroying it would set Kharnagar free to the warp, whereas I'm sure the sword can be safely contained on Titan so Kharnagar can't bother anyone again.

>+Anti-Warp Pylon
>+Research notes on Cadian Pylons
Don't know. On one hand they could be useful, on the other they may corrupt whoever reads them to follow in Quixos' footsteps.

>+Daemonology tomes
GK and =][= make regular use of such tomes so I don't see a problem. Knowledge is power after all.

>+Daemonhost creation toolkit
Give to Kaldor? GKs daemonhost themselves as a rite of passage after all.

Quixos was a very powerful and loyal daemonhunter for several centuries, does he have no sanctified stuff lying around? I mean he did still see himself as loyal so I would've thought he'd still have daemon killing stuff.

+Should Chapter claim wealth, instruments and other valuables stored on Farness Beta?+
1. Loot only industrial areas, where hopefully no corrupting elements might be encountered.
2. Don't loot at all.
3. Loot everything.

+Should we take prisoners?+
1. No, purge them all. [Kaldor and Eisenhorn happy]
2. Yes, but only slaves.
3. Yes, but only slaves and specialists whom we would be able to interrogate.
4. Yes, take everyone as prisoners.

+What shall be the fate of the planet? Chapter would cover part of the costs.+
1. Ist Class Exterminatus - burst core [-100W]
2. IIIrd Class Exterminatus - virus bomb it into a deathworld [-50W]

Why the fudge we gotta pay to clean up the =][='s mess.
>>

This one is easy
>1. Loot only industrial areas, where hopefully no corrupting elements might be encountered.
AND have everything thoroughly inspected for taint

>1. No, purge them all. [Kaldor and Eisenhorn happy]

>1. Ist Class Exterminatus - burst core [-100W]
This one is just my opinion but we should make some of it up from looting and better safe than sorry

GKs do it as well.
We did it to ourselves after reading it in one of their books.
It...it didn't go well.

With respect, Inquisitors, I am a warrior, a Dpace Marine. I am here, because you called me to assist you in eliminating this heretic. What happens to his possessions is your, not my area of work.

Eisenhorn shares his thoughts on that with you:
>I believe by the end he himself understood that holy items in his hands are losing power... Blessing is but a tip of the spear, through power of the relic comes from the faith of the believer... And I am not sure whether he was one.
>>37956959
Inquisition doesn't have resource base of it's own, they mostly use requisitioned stuff. But naturally they try to balance it out, for example by compensating building expenses, so that people would be willing to serve when they are required again. That's why Inquisition if the need is not pressing will compensate Mechanicus for their Exterminatus weaponry, partly with your money, if you agree with it.
+++
Eisenhorn is feeling better, he will be leaving for Scarus Sector to recover. Kaldor meanwhile will leave for Titan. Inquisitor Grumman will go to Terra to report our success.
+++
Before he departs, Eisenhorn approaches you:
>Dear friend, I am glad to have gone through this ordeal together with you. Your combat skills and your iron logic helped us carry the day. I am sorry for your loss, Horim was a hero. We both made wrong decisions, but in the end it was one mistake too little to get us killed. I believe that we followed the right path and I am sure we will meet again. Please, as my parting gift, I would like you to take on of my blanks, Xenya Smirnova. She's a young one, but shows promise, I think she's Theta level if I recall correctly. I trust she will serve you well.
In the door appears a young blonde woman in her 20s, wearing a black bodyglove. Her eyes are ice and you feel unwell just by looking at her.
>Pleasure, milord. I won't approach you closer, our conditions are hardly compatible. But I trust me, I will be a weapon in your hands that will bring you heads of many psykers. I am Valhallan, we know a thing or two about death and loving the Emperor. Shall you accept me to serve you?
>>

Soon after Eisenhorn leaves, Kaldor puts a hand on your shoulder.
>Ave Imperator, Brother. Mission is done, now it is time to leave. I am sorry, you have told me your Name, but I haven't introduced myself properly since we first met. As it is time for our ways to part, I guess it is fitting for me to introduce myself properly.
He takes off his helmet and looks at you with his crystal clear gaze:
>My name is Kaldor Draigo, Initiate of the Grey Knights. When we met, I almost killed you. Now I want to kiss you on a cheek like a brother. You are a true servant of the Emperor. I am sad that our acquaintance is so brief, but I trust there are many more heretics for us to slay and sooner or latter we will once more cover each other's backs on the battlefield. Take my Purity Seal, may it protect you always, whether from your own dark thoughts or from the evil influences of the others. Don't waver, Brother.
Kaldor waves one last time and boards the shuttle to leave.
>>37957609
>>37957579
>I will prove your judgement correct, milord.
Xenya leaves the room and choking feeling you had in your throat disappears.
>>37957527
You have not seen Inquisitor Commodus Voke since you arrived to the orbit. after a little bit of questioning you realise that Inquisitor took one of the Imperial escorts and left the system. He left a brief explanation for Eisenhorn saying that he needs to urgently check something out at the archives of Ophelia VII. A mysterious departure fitting an Inquisitor. +1 xp point for unlocking bonus material, wouldn't have mentioned it if you wouldn't have asked.
>>37957569
Sulix is currently under intense care, slowly healing. Daemonic poison was mostly removed, but it's effects still linger. When you remember about the daemonic shard that was stuck in Quixos' heart, you silently think to yourself that you might have created another Quixos while killing the original... What an irony of fate. At least you KNOW that this one will not become a monster.
>>
>>37957958
Are there any particularly important shrine worlds on the way back?
A short stay might help Sulix, and anyone else who wishes to rid themselves of the lingering taint of chaos (ie Chapter Master).
>>
>>37958018

>>
>>37957958

>>
>>37957958
From the chat:

Watch the blank is being given to CM to watch him and deal with him if he doesn't toe the line enough.
>>
>>37958110
I'm generally a big proponent of that view, but you must remember that there generally -are- helpful practices when it comes to shrine worlds.

Let him recover from his wounds and meditate upon himself and humanity, preferably with CM's guidance.

We need an official chapter cult before our refusal to act tears the chapter apart again.
>>
>>37958402
We posted your Chapter Cult idea before we left.
>>
>>37958402
>>37958424
I don't see the need for a cult. Plenty of chapters, especially first-founding chapters, do just fine without one. It is possible to remain pure with a strong sense of duty and honor without a cult. Mostly we just need to make sure we have reliable chaplains properly policing each company.
>>
>>37958487
One thing we could do, seeing as the main worry over this cult business is division, is encourage inter-cult relationships, have a ceremony or tradition of affirming brotherhood, stuff like that. An oath of oneness even if different, the whole being the sum of the parts, etc.

Eisenhorn claims all of the trophies apart from Daemonhost kit and Kharnagar, which are travelling with Draigo to Titan. He sets up charges in the Quixos' base to bury the pylon underneath almost a kilometer of earth, he judges it to be dangerous to outright destroy it. The rest of materials will be kept for the "future use against heretics". Daemonhost Cherubael-Deiron will be personally terminated by Inquisitor Eisenhorn as soon as it is convenient to do so.

However its much harder without one and the first founding chapters have a legendary status that makes them almost a cult to their recruitment worlds.
>>
>>37958487
We don't need an emperor worship cult, but we need to unify our brothers in some kind of belief. The different cults are all potential powder kegs that could lose us another company or worse.

I believe the one I suggested was essentially 'Corax was the Emperor's son, you are Corax's sons. Honor your grandfather, your father, your fallen brothers before you. Protect humanity and the Imperium with everything you have, even in the darkest hour.'

And iirc, the comments we made to Quixos should support that.

What that means is any ones' guess. Nestorium is forced to pay a hefty tribute to Ursus Dynasty to calm Lord Sector Governor. Poor representative is lobotomised and remade into a servitor and then given as a gift to Katriona. Rumours say that she is using him to clean her shoes.

>Unfortunatelly your current Doctrine when used applied to the battle in a semi-open terrain [Protheran hills], where raiders retreated after initial defeat turned out to mean some losses for you.
Can I ask why exactly?
>however you might roll for Techmarine Actium's Tech Use skill [25] to retrieve 1 Rhino due to his close affinity with armoured forces, he might have been close to the battle and might have retrieved the vehicle before it exploded.
Wouldn't heavily damaged vehicles be swapped out or retreat from battle to be repaired instead of shoved into battle as if they weren't absolutely priceless relics which cost what one man will never earn in a lifetime?

What exactly were these Raiders using and how were their tactics of retreating resulting in Astartes death again?

I find it hard to believe that the 4000 of them were using top of the line weapons, or were equipped with anything standard for IG. Or decked out with anything near Leman Russ.

Can I ask for a...more thorough report on what happened in that engagement? Seriously I'm confused, we fought a pack of pirates and they actually caused some damage.

Seriously its starting to sound like the pirates smuggled tanks into the hills or something. I want details on this mess if at least to revise battle Doctrine for this kind of terrain. Learn from our mistakes and all that.

And maybe understand how a pack of dirty ass pirates had access to weapons able to actually kill a space marine. Somethings smelly Skargan

Maccabeus Quintus is an arid and bitterly cold world with a harsh, bright sun, that is prone to terrible famines and droughts which leave their mark even on its strongest inhabitants. Yet Maccabeus Quintus is a blessed world, blessed not because of the resources it possesses (which are few), or because of the climate (which is harsh), but because of the faith that grows there in abundance. Maccabeus Quintus is a Shrine World of the Adeptus Ministorum administered by the Ecclesiarchy's Black Order, the place where the great Lord General Militant Drusus, the second commander of the Angevin Crusade, fell and was raised up as an Imperial saint by the glory of the Emperor. A site of pilgrimage for the faithful across the Calixis Sector of the Segmentum Obscurus, this Shrine World has a significant military tradition all its own. Following after their great patron, these pilgrims form the core of the Maccabian militias, the finest of which are chosen to become Maccabian Janissaries of the Imperial Guard. Like Saint Drusus, they defend or expand the Imperium in battle, which is regarded as the most pious form of worship.
+++
What shall you seek on Maccabeus Quintus?
1. Redemption through prayer or meditation
2. To learn more about religious doctrine
3. Blessing for conquest in the name of Imperium
4. To bury Horim and pay respect to all of our dead heroes
+++
Please pick one as I am asking only what is your PRIMARY goal, then roll d100.

We lost almost 5% of our chapter in a single engagement.

Not to orks. Not to Eldar. Not to Chaos. Not even to people who were properly armed. But to ragtag Raiders, numbering in 4000s. When we were fielding likely hundreds of Marines, vehicles and other weaponry.
>>
>>37961524
>another volley of krak mortar rounds descended
I.. What? Mortars are for slow combat, trench combat. Marines don't fight like that and never have, they'd only be able to use that in a defensive position, which they wouldn't be in since they're invading. Even more so if we were deep striked in.

>Unfortunately while Actium was trying to get the downed Rhino from the battlefield and fix it
Quoting from the Lexicanum
http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Rhino
"Downed" Rhinos have to have suffered through exceedingly terrible hits to be rendered immobile, as it has four engines and an auxiliary drive shaft and batteries which can keep it going for a spell as well.
> In addition, most Rhinos include rudimentary self-repair systems able to restore motive and drive functions. This basic design feature lends towards the Rhino's reputation as a rugged carrier, able to keep moving after suffering damage that would cripple lesser vehicles.[1]
Furthermore on self-repair,
>Such is its resiliency that damage sustained in battle can often be repaired in the field by the crew themselves.

And then on scavenging it?
>Each Rhino is purified and blessed, each piece appeased before being put in place. Should a Rhino be lost in battle, it will be salvaged and repaired, being sent back out into the field to give the Machine Spirit a chance for retribution against its enemies.[2]

I think you're really underestimating the Rhino here Skargan.

There are numerous priests who are offering you to bless your rounds, but you don't really trust any of them. Renard suggests you something nefarious:
>We could steal one of those silver church bells. I bet those are holy or even if they are not, they will sure sell well[+1d10 wealth]. I am pretty sure that if we want holy metal, that's where we could get it. Let me deal with it[Roll his Intelligence 52 to succeed, +10 bonus].

Most of the pilgrims who come are malnourished and diseased, not a good stock for recruitment. Locals are even worse, while their world is not gentle, they live better than average life due to the influx of coin brought by pilgrims, they are soft and will not make good recruits despite the fact that they want to serve. However Trianon has had some luck when scanning moving crowds on the road to the St. Drussus Chapel.
>Milord, I have detected two latent psychic signatures belonging to prepubescent boys, they are brothers. I have stopped and spoke to their parrents. Their names are Vortigan and Laxenos, they have come here all the way from Scintilla to ask St. Drussus for a blessing. Their parents think that we are the blessing sent by the saint and will sell us their boys for enough money to stay on this world and open a small shrine in our honour [3 wealth]. These boys would make great recruits, Avicenor thinks they'd survive the tests at 95% chance. Shall we buy them?

You can read more on Chapter Doctrine here - http://chapterquest.wikia.com/wiki/Doctrine. Space Marines die and not always gloriously. Anything that can kill a tank can kill a Space Marine. And yes, they had plenty of guns to kill tanks.
>>37961470
I guess this might have an impact storywise. They were mostly humans, with some darkholder mutants supporting them. You suspect that they might have come from Tartarus space station...

I can accept Space Marines dying from errant anti-tank weaponry, but really the vehicles should be 100% salvageable. Even if it's a mangled wreck we should be able to drag the husk back to the chapter forge and remake the damn thing, we still have the materials.

Anyway...let's just move on and I hope in the future our vehicles' durability is more in-line with their fluff (and their damn cost, for 10W those rhinos are nowhere near worth it).

Don't steal the bells, naughty Renard.

Grab the two psykers, we need librarians.

Then meditate and stuff on what we have done and ask for forgiveness.
>>
>>37962099
I don't think that its a good idea to steal from a shrine world.

Lets buy the brothers.
>>
>>37962099
>Anything that can kill a tank can kill a Space Marine. And yes, they had plenty of guns to kill tanks.
Why exactly? It's a raiding group of 4000 intent on attacking and sacking a city which lacks a strong PDF/IG Garrison, they shouldn't be expecting to be fighting an IG Regiment of tanks, much less the far more agile and maneuverable space marines.

>Please check what TripMarine said:
What, the "I can be lazy and re-direct you and not answer for anything" excuse?

>I guess this might have an impact storywise.
All of it has an impact story-wise. If we're expecting to lose 5% of the ENTIRE CHAPTER on a tiny engagement like this then we're going to have to start re-thinking how effective our Chapter is at engagements, not to mention how much money we're going to be spending, and on what.

10 Wealth was enough money to bankrupt the high pay Priests of the Eccliesarchy. 3 Wealth is more than just a "Small shrine", that should be enough to put them in palaces
>>
>>37962214
Vortigan and Laxenos now join your training pool. You may roll 2d100. To immediately see whether they both will survive[96+ death]. -3 wealth.

Regarding Rhinos - Indeed they can survive a lot of punishment and indeed you might salvage pieces of them. The battle was harsh, your forces (which were a company strong) needed to cover a large terrain to hunt down all the enemies, got into skirmishing/maneuvering battle which is not your strongest side, one of the Rhinos was lost in a quick sand, the other two exploded. Sure, you can drain the whole quick sand lake in a few months and you can take shells of the old machines and install new machine spirits, put on new armour, etc. Systematically and time wise it will be the same or even more expensive than buying a new Rhino. Please roll 30+d10 in Wealth loss to recover your Rhinos. Less damaged vehicles who just lost a track, caught a few shells or jumped on a mine will be repaired automatically.

Your arrival back to Deus in 346.M41 is celebrated by the whole Chapter! While you were gone Chapter lost 3% of Heresy and collected 4d10+4d3 Wealth. As you arrive to the Mormarkian orbit, you feel a faint breeze in the warp. And a smile appears on your face. Adriel is back from her Craftworld and she's felt that you are back to the Sector. You haven't played regicide in a long time... Probably time to practice your skills once more. With a smile you go to the Tombstone where a great feast awaits you.

40k has many interpretations. So here's explanation of what is what in CMQ. Following battles assume that it is happening in an open terrain and that Astartes is defending. This shows the point at which forces have 50/50 chance of success.
1 Astartes = 1000 plague zombies (claws and bodies, no weapons)
1 Astartes = 50 guardsmen (with a few rocket launchers, HMG and some grenades)
1 Astartes = 30 orks (close combat weapons)
2 Astartes = 1 Old Chaos Astartes (more than millenia old, no direct magic)
1 Astartes = Leman Russ tank
1 Astartes = 10 Eldar Guardians
1 Astartes = 10 stormtroopers
1 Astartes = 5 Skitarii/Arcoflagelants (average, depends on the modification)
1 Astartes = 20 Tau Fire Warriors (with pulse rifles)
1 Astartes = 30 kroot (melee)
1 Astartes = 1 Oldcron warrior (gauss rifle)
10+ Astartes = Chaos Sorcerer
3 Astartes = Medium level psyker
5 Astartes = Eversor Assassin
10 Astartes = Dreadnought / Penitent Engine
20 Astartes = Chapter Master / Bloodthirster
50 Astartes = Titan
100+ Astartes = Primarch

Tips & tricks on how to use your machinery efficiently:

=Rhino=
+Durable (can withstand multiple rocket hits, but would fall prey to a lascanon or melta hit)
+Provides mobile cover (option to miminise troop loses in exchange for Rhinos)
+Fast - Allows you to flank, pursue, surround, etc your enemies.
=When to use=
When you want to gain tactical advantage or need to redeploy your troops quickly, excels at pursuing fleeing enemies. Loses big part of it's advantages in crowded terrain, for example Rhino will die horribly in cities or mountains. Strongest at Maneouvre, Retreat, Open Terrain.

=Predator=
+Firepower - main battle tank can destroy enemy vehicles, heoes, monster and other heavies. Not efficient against troops unless they are tightly packed.
+Durable - can withstand a few hits from lascannon and/or melta, hard to kill. Shrugs off most rockets and grenades.
=When to use=
When assaulting a fixed position or serious targets such as Dreadnoughts, Daemons, etc. Too slow for pursuit, gets easily bogged down in dangerous terrain. Less disadvantaged in cities than Rhino (can in fact be used as a bunker-buster and to break strong points), but still is at danger from the lack of space to maneuver. Strongest at Advance & Open Terrain.

=Warbikes=
+Extremely fast, excellent for pursuit, scouting, harassing enemy.
+Carry enough firepower to threaten enemy Rhinos or light human tanks when in groups.
=When to use=
Warbikes are the weakest and one of the fastests of the vehicles you have. They are cheap, they are tactically very flexible, but they have to be managed well to reach their full effect. Also remember that Warbike can carry 2 Astartes if needed, so a group of warbikes could be used as a substitute for a transport i some cases where needed. Strongest at Open Terrain, Skirmishing, Maneouvre, Retreat.
