You are Captain BREEANA PIERCE, a witch of the United States Air Force.

You sigh, looking at the massive stack of personnel transfer documents sitting on your desk. These past months had not been kind to your unit, and ironically enough, not from the Soviets, but your own damn side. With all the constant flights they were making, a lot of the AF squadrons in Europe were getting dwindled down by attrition, mostly from exhaustion and combat stress. This meant every squadron was always on the hunt for fresh witches, especially experienced ones.

And hell, a bunch of witches that made hundreds of sorties into enemy territory without a single combat loss? Your squadron didn't even stand a chance. Witches with higher rank and far more clout than you basically picked your own squadron apart like vultures. On the one hand, you were kind of glad that you managed to whip up what used to be a bunch of rejects into fine, upstanding witches good enough for Colonels and Majors to literally catfight each other over. On the other hand, you were pretty pissed that you've essentially lost your entire squadron to Air Force politics.

And the paperwork. THE FUCKING PAPERWORK. THEY HAD TO TAKE YOUR FUCKING XO, TOO!

You were honestly on the verge of breaking your desk in half when the phone rings.

"Captain Pierce?" You hear an unfamiliar female voice. No doubt a secretary from Admin.

"You're speaking to her." You sigh. "What do you need?"

"You have several matters that require your immediate presence." The secretary drones on, her voice devoid of any tension. "A flight with your replacement witches will be landing within the hour. In addition, A Colonel Wilkins is requesting an experienced witch to host an orientation for her flight. And... there's a call from a... Captain Pierce."

Oh boy, as if your day wasn't going to be busy enough.

"Yo, little bro." You smile, some of your stress already melting away. "How's our little Medal of Honor winner doing?"

"Well, you know us non-medal winners. Gotta keep the European front together." You sigh. "Don't have the luxury of an ocean separating us from the enemy."

"Oh yeah, I'm fine, totally fine!" You laugh nervously. "Like, totally super fine! You don't have a thing to worry about!"

"Bree." Will says sternly. "I can tell when you're lying."

"Nonsense!" You grunt before leaving a very long, awkward pause. And then you finally snap.

"I DON'T HAVE A SQUADRON ANYMOOOOOOOOOOOORE!" You wail. "GODDAMN AIR FORCE POLITICS! IT'S SO UNFAAAAAIIIIIIR!"

"Whoa, whoa!" Will blurts, startled. "Slow down, Bree! Take a deep breath!"

You follow his advice and take a deep breath. It helps some, but not much.

"So, tell me again, what happened?"

"Bitches and whores basically carved up my squadron and poached all my witches." You grunt. "You know, the same witches they wanted nothing to do with a year ago."

"Hey, at least that means your training and direction did them a lot of good." Will says, trying to be helpful.

"Yeah, that's what I told myself. Doesn't make it sting any less." You sigh. "So how are things going in the Pacific? Relaxing on some nice tropical beach?"

"Ha, I wish. They're working us to death over here." Will laughs.

"An MoH winner like you? Sure they are." You roll your eyes. "If only we could switch places."

"Trust me, you don't." Will says solemnly. "It's really not much better than in Europe, honestly."

"Sure, whatever you say. Not like they'll ever approve a transfer out of here, anyways." You shrug.

"You know, I might be able to put in a good word for you. Help you out a bit."

"Using those MoH connections? Or maybe your girlfriend's?" You coo.

"A little bit of both." Will grunts, a bit miffed at your teasing. "So what do you say?"

"Yeah. yeah." You roll your eyes, and then pause when you realize something. "Will, what ungodly hour is it where you're at right now?"

"Ah, that's not important." Will says nonchalantly.

"'Not important' my ass!" You growl. "You better be getting enough sleep, Will, or has Janice been keeping you up all night?"

"Hey, it's not like that!" Will says defensively.

"Must be nice, having a girlfriend in the same squadron."

"Oh, now you're angry that Charlie is still in the States and you're stuck in Europe?"

"...maybe." You grunt. "Anyways, I have to be going. I'll catch you later... and thanks for the call. You really cheered me up."

"No problem, sis. Catch you later."

And with that the call is cut off with a hard click.

Yeah that's genearlly the rule with Fumikane's stuff that it's basically seen as "real figure -1" so naturally the curviest witches in his art end up more so in fanart (no complaints there)

Also Germany has a high overall level of quality of witches in both competence and appeal.

You decide that meeting your new recruits was the more important duty. After all, if they landed and you weren't there for them, you'd practically be leaving them hanging in the wind. And what kind of example would you be setting?

You lock up your office and exit your hauntingly empty barracks. One of the perks of being a squadron commander was that you had you own personal vehicle on base. You take your assigned Humvee and drive over to the main landing strip. As always, it was extremely busy, with cargo planes and troop transports landing every hour. NATO was simply pouring men and material into AOR North, for the inevitable push into Russia.

You then see a C-130 land on the airstrip and taxi into an unloading area. You glance at the plane's flight number and determine it's yours. You stride up to the loading ramp to meet your charges. However, the first people out, oddly enough, are a pair of German witches.

"Woooooo, it feels so GREAT to be back home!" You see the shorter one with pale, pinkish hair stretch arms out. "I mean, Japan's nice and all, but it's a bit too hot and humid for my tastes!"

"It will be nice to back with the rest of the Tigers." The second witch, a bit taller and with silver white hair nods with that typical German stoicism.

Huh, wait a minute, did they say they just came from Japan?

Well, you might as well ask them what's going on over there. Will always had the habit of understating things, to make sure you wouldn't worry. It would be good to get some news from an independent source.

"Hey there!" You wave at the two Germans. "Um, you two just came over from the Pacific, right? How are things going over there?"

"Huh? Why do you want to know?" The short one asks.

"Well, uh, my brother is over there." You say. "I just want to make sure he's doing okay."

"Ah, well, doing pretty good, last I checked." The short witch shrugs.

"The war there is progressing well for our side." The taller witch says simply. "I believe Korea will be fully liberated within the month."

"Ah, okay, that's good." You smile and nod. "Um sorry for disturbing you."

"Aw, it's no problem." The shorter witch chuckles. "Anything to help a fellow sister in need!"

You watch as the two German witches make their exit, loading up into a waiting truck that would no doubt take them to the front. You turn back to the plane just in time to see a small body flying at you at high velocity, shrieking in a loud, high pitched voice.

"Hi COMMANDEEEEEER!" The little witch squeals.

Fortunately, your reflexes were tuned by over a year of active combat and flying. It's such a simple matter to catch the little airborne witch like a disobedient cat. The little witch squeaks in surprise, obviously not expecting to have the initiative stolen.

"Gotcha, ya little hellion!" You grin.

"A-ah, I'm sorry for what my sister did!" Another equally small small witch nervously shuffles her way down the loading ramp. Christ, the witches they sent over just kept getting younger and younger...

"U-um, you don't happen to be Captain Pierce, do you?"

"That's right. I'm assuming you two are my new recruits?" You ask.

"Yes, Commander!" The first witch salutes, despite still being trapped in your grip. "Lieutenant Jennifer Downes, reporting for duty!"

"A-and Lieutenant Tiffany Downs, r-reporting for duty." The second witch shyly salutes.

Great. Twins.

"Of course they send be a couple of squirts." You roll your eyes. "Anybody else?"

A third witch strolls down the ramp. Still young, but at least noticeably older than the twins.

"Lieutenant Samantha Wellings, reporting!" She salutes sharply.

Well, at least she looked somewhat professional.

"C-can you let me down please, Commander?" Jennifer squeaks.

"No." You say flatly. You've wrangled with witches like Jennifer before. Couldn't risk taking your eyes off them for even a second. At least not until you've established dominance over them.

Gosh, that sounds so wrong, now that you think about it.

"Well, come along, then." You turn around, Jennfer still stowed securely over your shoulder. "I need to pay a visit to one of my colleagues."

"Yes sir!" Both Tiffany and Samantha fall in line behind you.

"So, do you three have strikers yet?" You ask.

"Not yet. The Matrons said we'd be issued them once we arrived" Samantha says.

"Ah, makes sense." You sigh. "Well, we got a few extras you could use until then."

You head back to your Humvee. Your new witches stow their luggage in the trunk and then jump into the backseat. You hop into the driver's seat and make a beeline for Colonel Wilkin's barracks. It's not hard to find, since you know as a new arrival, she's been stationed in one of the newly constructed facilities. You're a bit jealous, but then again, she's got to house an entire mixed wing rather than a single squadron of witches.

"Oh wow! Is that where we're staying?!" Jennifer says excitedly, bouncing up and down in the seat.

"I wish." You sigh. You bring the Humvee to a stop and see a pair of MPs approach. However, the moment you step out, they pause and return to their guard position. No way they were going to mess with a witch.

"Ah, Captain Pierce, I was expecting you."

You turn to see a redheaded witch wearing... a cowboy hat and boots? You were about to comment on it when you noticed the Colonel's wings pinned to her sleeves and salute instead.

"Captain Breeana Pierce, reporting!

"No need to be so formal. We're all witches here." Colonel Wilkins waves dismissively. "I just wanted to ask you a few questions, if that's okay with you."

"Yeah, sure, ask away." You say, putting your hands in your jacket pockets. "Not sure if I got anything helpful to say, though."

"You probably will." Colonel Wilkins smiles. "Actually, I wanted to know the state of the Russian defenses in AOR North. You can only learn so much from briefings on paper. I kind of want to hear it directly from a witch that's actually been out there.

"Oh, that." You nod. "Well, it's a pretty big shit show out there, even for witches. Those new SA-20s are fucking nightmares. Their radar is good enough to lock onto a witch, and their missiles are so damn fast they'll hit you before you even know it's coming."

"I've heard." Wilkins nods. "Any countermeasures?"

"You fly low. REALLY low." You sigh. "That's why a lot of the flights out of here now are purely defensive air patrols. Not really a lot that can get close to line from the sky besides SEAD."

"I was afraid of that." Wilkins sighs. "I guess that means we're stuck being on the defensive. Unless...."

"Unless what?" You raise an eyebrow.

"I was wondering maybe you could help train my witches to do night bombing ops?" Colonel Wilkins asks.

Well damn. On the one hand, having more witches taking on night bombing missions would help lighten your workload. However, you've also heard there have a lot of problems with Russian aircraft and witches penetrating NATO lines.

"I mean, I guess I can give some of your witches cross training, but I really think you should concentrate on CAP. It's not a glamorous or exciting job, but it's a necessary one."

"Hm, you have a point there." Wilkins nods. "All right, how about this. You teach some of my girls night bombing, and I'll give your new girls there some training in dogfighting. The real stuff, not the crap they teach you in school."

"Yeah, I think that can work." You nod. "Thanks."

"Hey, whatever it takes for us to survive just a bit longer, right?" Wilkins smiles.

"Of course." You nod. "I look forward to it, Colonel."

"Ah, you can just call me Holly." Holly waves dismissively.

"Well, in that case, you just call me Bree." You grin. You then turn to see the faces of your three recruits pressing against the Humvee's window, as if they were expecting the two of you to make out on the spot or something. Damn kids.

At that moment, an officer's staff car pulls up, parking right behind the Humvee.

"Huh, looks like the brass want to come say hi to you, too." You note.

"Um, I wasn't told anything about that." Holly points out.

"What?"

"Captain Pierce?" A man in a General's uniform steps out of the car.

"My name's General Granger." The General harumphs. "It's come to my attention that your unit is in a bit of a pickle."

"U-um, I guess you have to d-define 'pickle.'" You gulp.

"Why, your squadron getting cut up, of course! I've read the files the personally." General Granger growls. "To think, to go from one full squadron of experienced bomber witches down to just you and three green recruits? A travesty!"

"I-I guess it is." You nod.

"Well, I've put a stop to that." The General says. "Whatever witches you get, you keep from now on."

"With all due respect, General, but lately I've become unfortunately familiar with politics and this has a whiff of it." You sigh. "If you don't mind me asking, why?"

"Simple, really." General Granger looks right at you. "Your brother called for a favor. Seeing as how I've entrusted him with some rather valuable equipment, and has been doing some rather marvelous things with it, I've been inclined to give you a helping hand."

Ha, of course. Can't get anywhere in the military without connections. Then again, you weren't complaining here. Granger not only ran the Air Force, he IS the Air Force.

"I don't suppose I can get my witches back?" You say meekly.

"Sorry, but the paperwork has been done, and signed by a lot of high ranking witches. At this point all I can do is ask them nicely and the way things are, I doubt they'll listen."

"Ah... I see." You nod. "Pity."

"You know, tell you what." Granger grins. "I happen to have another project nearing completion. You got four witches in your squad including yourself, right?"

"Yes." You nod.

"Perfect! I have a new set of strikers I need field tested, that is, if you want to take them."

"No strings?

"None at all. You get them, you keep them. Just as long as you report your findings." Granger says.

Oh boy, that was tempting. On the one hand, NEW STRIKERS! On the other, untested tech and acclimation was not really a fun combination...

Ah, fuck it. You couldn't resist.

"I'll take them, sir." You nod. "What am I in for?"

"You'll be testing the striker variant for our replacement for the Strike Eagle." Granger grins. "The Strike Raptor."

"Strike Raptor?" You frown.

"The bomber variant of our next generation air superiority fighter, the F-22 Raptor." Granger says proudly. "Increased payload and a stealth signature that makes it practically invisible to radar. Just the thing we need to crack Soviet air defenses open."

"Oh... oh wow." You gasp. It sounded as if these things were pretty beefy. "When do we get them?"

"They've already been shipped here. I've just been looking for a unit suitable to take them on." Granger nods. "I'll have them transferred to your hangar, along with the techs needed to maintain them. Naturally, you'll be taken off rotation until you're properly acclimated."

"Thank you, sir!" You say again.

"Just doing my part." Granger salutes. "I expect to see some results."

"You'll get them sir." You salute back.

With that, Granger returns to his staff car, which speeds off to his next appointment, whatever it may be. You get the impression Generals, even with infinite opportunities to delegate duties, were still infinitely busy people.

"Well what do you know, guess I got the General of the Air Force in my pocket now." You chuckle.

"Yeah, well I happen to personally know Frank Bishop." Holly grins, trying to one up you.

"Pfffft. Smalltime." You huff. "My brother's got an MoH."

"You do realize Bishop got one too, right?' Holly laughs.

"Y-yes I did." You grunt. "What of it?"

"Ah, what are we doing? Standing here talking about guys?" Holly chuckles. "How about we get your recruits properly orientated? We can start some of that cross training right now!"

"Heh, that would be nice." You smile. "Let me go get them."

As you open the door to the Humvee, your combat instincts kick in, and you dodge to the side just as Jennifer's tiny form shoots out from the vehicle in another attempt to tacklehug you.

"COMMANDEEER!" She squeals.

Unfortunately, Holly, who's view was obstructed, does not react nearly as fast, and ends up taking Jennifer full force, falling backwards on her ass. You clamp a hand over your mouth in an effort not to laugh, while Tiffany and Samantha just shake their heads at the sight.

Heh, it's almost as if you had your old squadron back.

>And that's it for tonight! We'll be continuing Bree's adventures for a little while longer. so come back next week!

Fronk didn't.

Thanks for the thread Merc, though it seems pretty short.

He didn't, turned out that disobeying orders in Tanana, made him illegible

I try not to run as late on Sundays anymore since participation tends to drop sharply.

>>
>>37945427
Maybe he got one for Berlin?
>>
>>37945539
That is what that one General said though we haven't got any confirmation for it. Though I'm surprised he didn't get get anything else like the Naval equivalent of the Distinguished service cross or something.

At least a Purple Heart or three.
>>
>>37945592
I think he's already got a Navy Cross for something
>>
>>37945605
I think that was for Tanana
>>
Ghost what medals does he have?
>>
>>37945632

Frank's got a navy cross for the Katya recovery, he was in line for a MoH for Tanana, but that got axed after the Bering sea (some surface admirals pinned the blame for the loss of the Kitty Hawk on him and pointed out he'd disobeyed orders in the air over Tanana, making him ineligible). He's up for one for Berlin, but it's got to clear the paperwork.

He's got one purple hart as a result of the wounds he took at Tanana.
>>
>>37945666
Does the Navy know about or care about the fact that he's basically flying himself apart right now, or is that being kept hush-hush?
>>
>>37945666
I'd say his capture of the Fandance with Merlin and the escort of that Il-62 with hundreds of nerds on it should mean that Berlin one is assured.
>>
>>37945714
Wouldn't that be put pretty tightly under wraps?
>>
>>37945764
still goes towards medals like that, only certain units have restrictions on getting medals for publicities sake

>>37945712
I would fucking hope so, he needs a couple of weeks/months to recover and get VDNI with Merlin and acclimatize to using it before he'll be ready for combat ops again
>>
>>37945666
>(some surface admirals pinned the blame for the loss of the Kitty Hawk on him and pointed out he'd disobeyed orders in the air over Tanana, making him ineligible)

How is he blamed and he followed orders to take out those huge flying carriers?

Not to mention I don't think he disobeyed orders, he still stuck with the bombers and witchers to make sure they got out.

Also is that Marine witch who Frank scolded still sore at him?
>>
>>37945809

He's blamed because lolmilitary politics. The surface admirals were PISSED that a carrier got whacked, and Frank was the most 'visible' guy there, plus it was known that he was Nixon's golden boy (And there's more than a few guys that want Nixon's job), and using Frank puts part of the blame on Nixon by association.

And he did- Ice ordered him not to do it, he did it anyway.

Rand? Not really. she might remember it if they ever ran into each other again, but it's been a long time ago, and she's got other things to worry about. She might call him a jerkass if he comes up in conversation somehow, but otherwise nah.
>>
>>37945903
Those surface admirals can go suck on those two dreadnoughts we blew up over Berlin.
>>
>>37945903
....Did it work? or did Frank's Flying in Japan, Berlin, and Poland kind of made that go away?

a Jerkass? but it was her fault though?

Lastly how is Frank's mental state or maybe Spellcaster's as a whole considering he is suffering from nightmares though they seem to be getting vaguer though or him forgetting about them.
>>
>>37945964
Part of me wonders whether they were crewed by Soviet Air Force or Soviet Navy crews haha
>>
>>37946007

Soviet Naval Aviation
>>
>>37945979
It worked for a time, his being awarded the order of the golden kite (Forgot that one) 5th class helped- the Imperial military is notorious for not awarding anything to foreign troops without a hell of a lot of push. Berlin probably cemented it, though there's still grumbling about how he could do that there, but not over the Bering. (forgetting he had much better firepower at Berlin). Poland, despite the relative difficulty of it, is seen as just doing his job.

Well, how do you like it when someone rips into you, even when it's your fault? haha. But, again, there, it's not much of a big deal, she's got plenty else to worry about.

It was tolerable for a while, and he's coping ok currently.
>>
>>37946183
Rest of Spellcaster?

I thought men (and maybe witches) can only last certain amount of days before going into combat fatigue or shell shocked?

Been looking up at some old documentaries regarding that and its effects during the first and second world war.

Though I may be wrong
