You trundle through the forest, setting an easy pace for your less physically capable friends.
Lann, specifically.

Nin and Jin have taken their respective spots once more- And Sheszka has triumphantly thrown the wolf's body across your back, and is using it as a cushion.
You'll probably have to bathe her tonight. There's a rather large difference between were-wolf smell and dead wolf smell.

You slip easily through the shattered ruins, the torched meadow.
The grass is starting to come back, green stalks starting to poke out from beneath the charred remnants of their forebears. Give it a year and it'll look like a slightly less devastated meadow.

Lann continues her half-march- Fingers laced, hands tucked behind her head as she high steps through the forest, taking her time.
She picked a good time to walk, at least.

The morning's breeze has returned, carrying cool air and the scents of the woods, rustling trees and grass alike. The quiet hiss of wind through the forest, the distant sounds of animals and water.

You yawn.

"Hey, spider queen."
"I am not answering to that, yes."
"Just did."

You click at the half-elf, and she laughs back, an easy chuckle.
"Did your parents give you an ultimatum, or what?"
"What?"
"You're looking to leave all of a sudden."

>Leaving was something that had been planned all along, yes.
>It wasn't really that sudden.
>I am thinking mom would leave if we did not, in any case.

Great.

Seeing as elfdad didn't know how long it would take us to grow up, Ill bet first.
>>
>>37860414

Pretty sure we're the first, but who knows. Maybe we'll figure out we've got insanely over-leveled sisters out there. Speaking of which, we still need to figure out if and how badly Aria beat us up.
>>
>>37860464
That's slightly a relief.
Though I am still excited at the possibility that there will be more siblings when we get back.
>>
>>37860514
I am thinking she will be more restrictive on them.
>>
>>37860514
>>37860728

Wonder if mom will keep popping out super mutants, or if the next few batches will be semi-normal (by giant spider standards). I also wonder how our questionable success as a litter will affect her risk taking strategy. All things considered, we turned out well: intelligent, strong, and quickly evolving. I think she'd feel torn about denying the next group the same advantages by coddling them.

Of course, the life cycles of arachne points to that litter being decades away from us.
>>
>>37860800
>Wonder if mom will keep popping out super mutants
Our siblings are only abnormal because they follow Lyras example.
Unless the next batch also contains a reincarnation, they are more likely to be only slightly above average.
>>
>>37860507
>if aria beat us up.
Hahahhahaha
>>

Prediction: we will have a Gary Oak. And she will be a water+wind-type arachne.

>>37860927

>>
>>37860869
I would like to encounter a few more long lasting male characters to be honest.
>>
>>37860846

I honestly don't think it's that far fetched. REQM's been power leveling Aria like a champ off-screen. It honestly makes me wonder what kind of crap she's been getting up to, if for all of our insanely absurd antics she is catching up, if not overtaking us.

Still find it hilarious that by pastebin, she gained 13 levels in less than five minutes.
>>
"It is not like that, yes? Leaving is something I had always planned."
"Oh?"

You gesture to yourself.
"Training and weapons and armour-"
"And turning into a giant skull wearing monster?"
"That part wasn't planned."
"Had to ask."
"Mhm."

"Anyways, it was something I was going to do. Even Jinni told me I wan't allowed to leave without her, yes? It wasn't sudden."
"Sssshe woke up thiss morning and sstarted planning out of nowhere."
"That sounds pretty sudden."

"Do you just sleep until you feel like there is opportunity to poke fun at me?"
"It'ss your fault. If you weren't so warm, I could stay awake much easier."
"... I thought it was the cold that put you to sleep."

There's a few steps worth of silence from the lamia as you continue towards home.
"Well, yes."
"Well, yes what?"
"Cold does make me sleepy. Bad sleepy, though."
"Bad sleepy?"
"If you fall asleep because of the cold, you might not wake up."
"Ah."

"But warmth makes you sleepy too?"
"...Yesss?"
"So you're just lazy."
"It's a lot of work to keep my temperature up! But if I stay here-"
"Then it isn't."
"Yes."

You prod her a bit, and she huffs.
"Laaaaazy snake."
"Stupid spider."

Lann laughs again.
"Have you considered building a house back there yet?"
"Please do not give them any ideas."
"Hah. So, are all the spiders leaving home?"
>>
>>37860954
"Probably not, yes. I think my brothers will be sticking to the forest. Sara will find a library and live in a web on the ceiling. Elle wants to move to a city or town and make clothes, yes. And Aria will be joining the guild, I am sure."
"And your parents?"
"They are adventurers, yes. If we do not leave home soon, they'll go instead. I think my mother is slowly going mad."
"Got the itch, huh."

You clear the last tree, stepping clear of the brush and into your family's clearing. Jin flaps clear of your shell and drops into yyour arms, while the rest of your friends line up in front of the ladder, slowly clambering their way into the house proper.

You, of course, walk up the side of the tree like any other vaguely flat surface.
Not that it's anywhere near flat.

The pastebin lists the line "I'll see you in the ring", something yelled mere seconds after she woke up. I know there is a delay intended somewhere in there, but I still find it funny.

I'll also be honest that beyond that, I find myself jealous of her success, if only for the fact that for no less earnest efforts on our part, we are getting mathematically less. I wonder how our character will come to be defined when for all of our death defying shenanigans, we lose our position as strongest sibling.
>>
>>37861012
>>37860976
Keep in mind: Bonus easier levelling after evolution, and one other major point.

That fighting stronger monsters gives more experience. So challenging and getting smeared by Lyra would actually help, right?
>>
>>37860971
>Lann is here. The trap is sprung. Hand her off to Elle for your own amusement.

LET THE WORLD KNOW OF OUR TERRIBLE EVIL AND TREMBLE!
>>
>>37861187
Spiders are like Saiyans: when defeated they only become stronger. So when Aria gets completely wrecked by Lyra...
>>
>>37861184
>if only for the fact that for no less earnest efforts on our part, we are getting mathematically less
No we aren't getting less at all.
Lyra is just as old as Aria and still far ahead of her in level.
Aria only caught up during the time in which she was Tier1 and we Tier2. Thats all there is to it.
>>
>>37861184
>we are getting mathematically less
Not at all? Lyra is 29 levels ahead of Aria not to mention the enomrous bulk of skills we have and we are still higher in every single skill than she is.

Aria is nowhere near Lyras level, and considering how little her skills increased, she isn't increasing nearly as fast in strength as Lyra is.
>>
>>37861184
You're not being the oneesan your imoutos believe you to be.
>>
>>37861236
So true. Now that she's tier 2 she'll probably slow down to our speed. unless she does some kind of super montage training we'll keep our lead.
>>
>>37861236
>Aria only caught up during the time in which she was Tier1 and we Tier2. Thats all there is to it.
Exactly, there's a thing called diminishing returns, after all: since we're further ahead than Aria is we're not getting as many levels. Besides, you should be looking at our skill levels: we are ahead of Aria in nearly everything.
>>
>>37861236

Aria also caught up to Lyra, who got to where she was through a combination of very intensive training, actual combat experience, slaying giant monsters, and exploring and adventuring and growing in both power and spirit because of it, just by training with mom when Lyra had plateaued with that method and was no longer making any significant progress just by training.
>>
>>37861343
>Aria also caught up to Lyra
Except Aria hasn't caught up to Lyra at all.
They are 29! Tier2 level apart. Take a look at all the stuff we did in those 29 level.
Aria is far far away from lyra.
>>
>>37861372

You aren't accounting for the large and varied level jumps BEFORE she evolved that she got just from training.
>>
>>37861308

Yeah, I know, and I am not quite happy with that. There's no getting around that it's terribly petty. Even if at some point she comes around and we do get ground into the floor, it isn't exactly a reason to get jealous, let alone over some vague hypothetical where we still do hold a mechanical advantage (though that might be overturned by some mismatched rolls). I just figured I'd say it so people could point out how I am being terribly silly. Figure I'm done with it at this point.
>>
>>37861402
Yes I am?
She made some level jumps over a large period of time. And?
The "jumps" are because her levels aren't tracked as granular as Lyras.
Most of the level gains aren't actually "jumps", they are what was accrued over longer time, except when we fight really big things.
>>
>>37861343

I think Aria has been hunting as well as training and taking guild jobs. She's been doing a lot off screen, and without a team of highly powerful monsters revolving around her. To put it simply, solo XP is hax, and I'm not imagining folks want to trade our cadre for a few extra levels.
>>
You step off to the side, waiting for your friends to pull themselves the rest of the way up the tree.
Timing, timing is everything.

First step, go!

"Elle? Elllllle!"
Your sister unfolds from the shadow of the tree, cracking her neck as she stands.
"Is there a reason your are yelling, yes? I know you can see me."
You grin, fangs and all.
Elle raises an eyebrow.

"You have a look on your face like you are starting trouble, yes."
"Who are you, Mom? I brought you something."
"Your hands are empty, Lyra."

Lann hoists herself up the last few rungs, and you intercept beautifully, grabbing her just under her arms and holding her up in front of you, feet dangling.
"Lyra, what are you doing?"
"Lyra?"
"Lann is looking for clothing, yes? And you are looking for people who are more, ah. Regular sized. And shaped, yes."
"Wait a sec-"

It's already far, far too late. Elle's expression has changed straight from vaguely confused to something approaching a starving carnivore.
Lann manages a few eeps and squeeks as Elle helps herself to the half-elf, hands roving everywhere, measuring and poking.
She smiles.

"Perfect, yes. Thank you, Lyra."
"You're welcome."
"Don't I get a-"

She doesn't finish her sentence before Elle drags her away, stripping the protesting archer as she goes.
"Hey- Wha-"
"I cannot measure you like that, yes. Don't be silly."
"LYRA!"

You wave as she's dragged into the piles of silk near Elle's spot.

Nin and Sheszka crest the ladder one after another, the wolf standing excitedly at attention and the moth slinging herself back onto your shell.
"You need to live in a smaller tree, milady. Or a castle. A castle would work well, don't you think?"
"You understand that castles are large, yes? And full of stairs?"
"You just need to demand the halls be large enough that I may fly within them."

You shake your head, and turn towards your Father's workshop.
Nest corner.
Junkyard.
>>
>>37861812
They all fit.
He looks up from a book as you head in, smiling.
"Find what you were looking for?"
"Maybe? I put things in place, yes. I will have to tell Ari, too."
"She's out hunting, I think."

"You aren't sure?"
"In my defense, you're all very quiet for arachne."
"The true strength of the giant spider, yes."
"I think that's probably your ability to smash things barehanded, but it's just an opinion."
"Yes- Ah. I wanted to bother you."

He raises an eyebrow.
"About?"
"The necklace, yes?"

Absolutely blank.
"Necklace?"
"From the dungeon? It was enchanted to hold things?"
"Enchanted- Oh. Oh! Yes. The necklace."

"You were researching it, yes? To duplicate the enchantment."
"Yes. Yeah. I copied the patterns and such. It was a little rough to get it working, but I managed a few minor things."
"What do you mean?"
"Ah. With the necklace, it places things in something like a pocket dimension, accessible by-"

You zone out in short order, eyes drifting out of focus as he describes whorls of mana or something.
"-so the bags don't have quite the same effect, but they-"
"Bags?"
"Huh? The enchanted bags."
"Enchanted bags, yes. What can they do?"
"They're bigger on the inside than the outside. I couldn't get the original to work because-"

"That's fine, that's fine, yes. Can Jin have the necklace, then?"
"Of course. I've got the patterns, and I wouldn't be able to get anything else out of it at this point."

You easily lift the wolf off the ground, hauling her towards the baths as she twists to look at you.
"Alpha?"
"Lyra, yes? And you smell like dead animals."

She leans over sniffing at her hands, nose wrinkling.
"Just a little."
You shake your head.
"A little too much, yes. In you go."

You follow her in, shedding gear as you go- Jin simply flops into the water, ruffling feathers and spraying water everywhere.

Sheszka sits against you, waiting for the water to warm up while Nin and Ezzy do the same. Just from somewhere warmer.

With bubbles starting to rise and heat permeating the stone baths, you dunk the wolf under the surface a few times, scrubbing at her with washcloths and your hands alike.
You're not entirely sure how her hair manages to knot itself moments after exposure to air, but it certainly does.

Despite the lazy protests of a few slothlike monsters, you've got them clean and out of the water inside fifteen minutes, a soggy pile of fur, fluff, feathers and scales drying next to you as you wait for dinner.

Food arrives- Via your siblings, of course, but that's not the important part of this cycle- and dinner begins.

With a rather generous pile of sizzling meat in front of you, you look up to find Sheszka sitting patiently next to your meal.
She meets your eyes, raising her hands and smiling.
"Clean?"

Ah.
She's discovered how to get spoiled, then.

Her mouth snaps open after every chunk of meat offered, voraciously devouring anything that approaches her maw. And once she's satisfied, then comes Jin and Ezzy and...

It takes a while before you get any food of your own.
At least it doesn't take much for the snake to fill up. You're a growing spider.
Probably.
Anyway, you have needs. Dietary needs.
Like entire bears. Or a herd of deer.

You get hungry sometimes.
>>
>>37862984
You wash your hands in the aftermath, your friends already selecting spots and laying claim to blankets as they prepare for sleep.
They all stand in a semi-circle waiting for you to lie down.
You sigh, take your spot, and are immediately buried in monsters.

Sleep comes quickly, at least.

And of course, so does morning.

After caffeine got realized they decided to go on a proper adventure for once instead of dicking around the city, they specifically asked for plot so I gave them some. Rumors of a cave where if monsters go in they can evolve in a day. So they get to they cave, fight monsters have grand old time. Gin punched things, Nye Magicked things, Din was a dust whirlwind, Dr. Love may or may have not molested a few skeletons and Tim carefully rearranged the entire dungeons layout using some paper, a magic pen and and economic model showing how the increase of price in having such nicely cut non native stones that deep in the mountains could be lessened by a proper layout utilizing less stones over all. Fucking economics. In the finally room they find a crystal, a crystal that when monster touch, will evolve the next time they sleep.

They decide that leaving the crystal here was too dangerous but they didn't want to be a target either so they decided to destroy it. By which I mean gin was going to punch it until it went away.

This is when I messed up.
>>
>>37863476
The words I used were something along the lines of Gin punching the crystal into powder. Thats when Din speaks up "Powder you say?"

The crazy fucker snorted the magic eldrich monster evolving powder. I had him make two rolls, he crit failed the first but passed the second, so in short the magic didn't make him evolve but it didn't kill him either. But now he knows how to make magic monster evolving powder.

Now not being a complete crazy fucker Din decides to experiment with the powder before snorting some more. SO he goes to a out of the way workshop they set up in the woods, while Gin goes out to find shit to experiment on. He starts making rolls to make the new powder and rolls beautifully. He ends up with 2 barrels of the stuff. Then Gin comes back with a wolf. They force feed this poor thing both barrels then they lock it in the experimentation vault and head back to the city for they day. They have a few shenanigans and then come back the next day.

The workshop is gone, as is the surrounding forest, and most of the mountains a few miles back. They find wolf tracks the size of a carriage that gets bigger the longer they follow it. And then they hear the howling.

That's were we ended yesterday.

>This is when I messed up.

No Mothia guy, where you messed up was ever including an object with the words 'magic eldrich monster evolving' in the description.

You should never have introduced anything like that to your group. Even I know them well enough to know that.

It was always going to go wrong. There was never any other possible outcome.
>>

Hopefully the wolf will quickly ascend to full godhood and leave the mortal plane.

Before it destroys more than one civilization, at least.
>>
>>37863580
I was exaggerating my fucking up for effect because honestly the shit they pull I really should have seen this coming. So I rolled with it like I did with Ms. Cancer Butterfly

But they asked for plot and the got Ragnarok.

Wolf is Mythical teir and I have planned for him to hit another teir if they don't stop him fast enough. I've got a neat little set up where Mr. Wolf eats x a day and get exp for it and will soon become invincible to all except maguffen

>>37863650
I was hoping they'd pull something stupid so I could continue with plot so I wanted them to go for it. Snorting it was what I had hoped however, much less force feeding a wolf the equivalent to six crystals

The biggest things was the 2 rolls din had to make one was to see whether or not the powder worked, the second was to see if he survived, I also heavily implied through out the cave that there where side effects bad things horrors from beyond the vale ect, when Din had to make two rolls and vomited up the crystal powder when he didn;t die they got more careful. If they do down more powder I may need them to make new characters after Ragnarok is done, I wouldn't quite know where to go from there with out Cthulhu getting involved. Or maybe the go to the heavenly realm and fuck about up there.

You creep out of bed.
The Sun is not quite all the way up. A little before noon, maybe?

The nest is mostly emptied, as usual. Your Dad taking up his usual corner, books and bits and pieces spread everywhere. Sara has apparently constructed a small set of fortress walls from books- Which have continued to grow in number somehow.

You've begun to suspect that several of your father's bags contain nothing but reading material.

No Elle, though. And no Lann.

You look up, light streaming through the branches, shafts of light drifting across the nest in time with the breeze. Creeping up the trunk, you reach the arena. And your target.

Lann is standing, arms out, with a look of surrender written upon her face.
You keep still, hanging off the side of the tree, and watch.

"Can I get pants, at least?"
"Pants are boring. You can have pants later, yes."
"I- Gah. Alright. Why do you have so many dresses, anyway?"
"I do not think I have that many?"

"You've put four on me already. And you keep changing them. How is that not a lot of dresses?"
"Is four a lot?"
"I have a single dress. For special occasions. That's it."
"Well, now you have four more, yes?"

"But why do you have four dresses just waiting around?"
"Oh. No, I only had one, yes."
"Huh?"
"I made one for my father. For the festival, yes? But he would not wear it, and Mom kept laughing whenever I tried to ask."
"Uh. And the other three, then?"
"I made them."
"Now?"
"Yes?"

Elle shucks the dress off the half-elf in a single motion, throwing it down into a pile of similarly complete gowns.
She turns back to her 'volunteer' with a blindingly fast movement, already holding up streamers of dyed silk.
She hums to her self as she pairs colours against Lann's skin or hair. Maybe her eyes.
You're not really sure about Elle sometimes.
>>
>>37864086
Lann, for her part, has been relegated to a set of Elle's underwear- these ones held one with string, tied into bows on each hip. Rather than anything approaching a bra, she's been dressed up in a fancy sort of undershirt, complete with lace.

Your sister is rather ahead of the curve.

Lann spots you as you shift in place, glaring.
"Lyra."
"Lann. You look comfortable, yes."
"The fit's pretty- Hold up, you rat. You offered me up as a sacrifice!"
"I am right here, yes."

You shrug, trying and failing at an innocent expression.
"I may have known what I had signed you up for."
The archer blushes, pointing a finger accusingly in your direction.
"Do you know how many -things- I have had to wear? I don't even own this much clothing!"
You crawl up next to your sister, who rolls her eyes at you as she continues to work.

"Probably still less than me, yes? Elle, are you making all the, ah, underthings with ties now?"
"Not everything, yes? Well, for her. For us, it is no like we can pull them over our legs."
"It would be a bit awkward."
"Mmm."
"I'm gonna go out and say that these are a bit awkward, too."

"Why? They fit nicely, yes? They are easy to wear."
"It's- They're just kinda- It's embarrassing to be seen in them, y'know?"
"No. They are worn inside clothing. Nobody sees them."
"You're telling me you- Or Lyra, or anyone here is wearing stuff like this, right now."

Elle snags the hem of your tunic pulling it up as you squeak.
"See? They are the same, yes?"
Lann stares.

"Those are, ah. Pretty lacy. Didn't really expect that from-"
You shove your sister's hand- and your clothing- back down.
"YES LOVELY THANK-YOU."
"I tried making some all lace, yes. But Mom would not let anyone wear them. Would you like-"
"That's okay ha-ha-ha-ha-"
"I do not understand why everyone blushes about the lace, yes."

>Get some breakfast before you end up next to Lann.

Well, I'm glad that you are acknowledging the dangers here without me having to point them out. if you give them something like a 5% chance of surviving per dose and a cutoff margin to where it only becomes more deadly from there, I think you will do alright with keeping them from giving it to themselves or loved ones.

So far as Cthulu or heavenly realms, try not to buy into escalation. The good thing about your game seems to be that they take the time to enjoy small victories and the simpler, RP oriented aspect. Suddenly turning everything into "We must stop the apocalypse or punch the biggest dick" may get boring more quickly than you would like.

Note to self:
Don't talk about undergarments in populated areas. Especially if elle is nearby.

So thought up some ideas about training for our snek.

We got her lifting twigs for a start.
To upgrade the challenge, Lyra can forgeshape something approximating modern fitness stuff - two halves of a cylinder, separated by a spring. Have Esme try to consrict it.
To work on speed - stoneshaping. Start rising up small columns in a meadow and have her dodge around them.

For some hunting practice, we can set down webs to catch a bunch of gnomes and rabbits, release them in a walled arena and send snek to fight them tooth and tail.

You eye your sister as you back up.
Keeping a hand on your tunic of course.

That's enough skirt flipping for today, Elle.

You've got Jin's necklace burning a hole in your pocket. And there's no doubt that the harpy would be unbelievable pleased to have it. Because it's shiny, of course.

You'd be glad she has it because it would mean she can now carry things in flight, and so on.

However-

Yeah. This seems like a good time for it.

"Elle."
She glances away from Lann, lips pursed and holding a needle as she measures a sheet of silk against your friend.
"Mhmhn?"
"Did you know that moths can make silk?"

"Nnnmph?!"
"Yes, yes. It's not the same as ours, though. Lighter and fluffier? I am not good at describing things."
The needle is pushed into a thick ball of silk, already dotted with the small shards of metal.
"Light- Maybe lace? Or using it for lighter underthings would? Hmmm."

She follows you down the tree as you head towards your friends.
You wave at the bundles of monsters still lounging around- Jin smiles, Nin waves back and Sheszka rolls over and snores louder.
And Esmerelda is around your neck, and your are unsure of her current state of consciousness.

"Good morning, yes."
"Morning."
"G'morning Lyra."
Well, being completely awake this time of day might have been a bit much to ask for from Jin.

"I have something for you, yes?"
You reach out, brushing her hair free of her face and scratching just behind her tuft. She smiles, blinking her eyes free of sleep and rolling her shoulders as she tries to stand.
>>
>>37865605
"I am borrowing this, yes?"
You nod and wave as Elle takes the blanket-bound Nin in both arms, crawling right back up to her workspace.
"What? Lyra? Uh, Elle? Hello?"
"Have fun, yes!"
"Lyra? Lyra!"

You take the necklace out of your bag, the twined links of metal glittering in the morning sun.
"Do you remember this, Jin?"
Her eyes widen, tracing the chain across your hands and down to the gemstone, facets already reflecting light.
"The dungeon!"
"Yes, yes. And this was promised to you. For all your help, for everything you've done, yes."
"It's beautiful. So sparkly."

You lower the loop, drooping the gemstone to her chest as the chain circles her neck- you pull her hair free of the links, flicking it past the necklace and over her back.
"It is yours now, yes? It can carry things, keep your belongings for you. Even when you fly, yes."
"Lyra!"

Your friend bounces in place, the necklace jumping in time with her, eyes switching between her necklace and your face as fast as they can.
You smile.
"And with this, you are my knight, Jin. My scout and right hand, yes!"
"I want to be a day instead. They are warmer, yes."

You shake your head and hug the lithe harpy.
"Not that kind of knight, yes. And keep it a secret from Nin, yes."
She giggles, hugging you back.
"A secret, yes. My secret!"
"Your secret."

You'll have to ask dad how to use it. He didn't say.
That's kind of a thing, now.

You can hear Nin yelling for help from atop the tree.
A good start to a day.

>>37863496 what I would do in this situation, is make the crystal powder's method of evolving monsters different from other methods. Make in involve some type of dark magic that gives power at the cost of a gradual loss of sanity. The monsters evolve into "monsters" in the truest sense; it makes them violent as fuck and evil. There also has to be some kind of drawback as far as form of long-term effects of this power go. Something beyond the loss of sanity, like monsters that evolved using it developing some kind of physical mutation over a period of time. like extra eyes or corrupted veins on the surface of their bodies. These drawbacks wouldn't immediately surface, but after a while of observing a monster that had been affected by the powder, its negative effects should become apparent.
