"See you there!" You smile brightly and end the call.

Jeanine pokes Vance. "So, going to model those speedos? Maybe you should practice now."

He rubs the back of his head, then comes back. "Yeah, like you're not going to be asked to model some teeny weeny victini bikini," he jokes.

Jeanine rubs yours and Robin's heads. "But really, we'll help any way we can. Right Vance?"

Clair mutters something about nobody asking her to model anything, but she half-heartedly agrees.

You and Robin nearly tear up. You have good friends. You begin to excuse yourselves out of Emma's house before you wear out your welcome.

You do some laundry, get fed and relax a bit. Emma talks with you and your friends casually.

She looks up at you from her conversation with Jeanine.

"Something's been bugging me about when you got back. Don't you think it's weird that it's weird you didn't remember why you left before?"

She thinks and laughs. "I hope I'm not getting old."

"I'm serious."

She takes a moment to consider what you're saying. "Maybe you're right. Let's see. I flew in on my plane and met Geno, then his dragons gave us a lift. We wanted to surprise them. There was this massive flock of bird Pokemon outside, but they didn't bother us. We got to the lab and Geno went in first." She takes a seat, lost in thought. "I remember him taking awhile, so I went in after a few minutes. He was just standing there. Hornbeam was mad and complaining he wasnt ready yet. We'd bring too much attention if we vanished."

Robin approaches. "Just standing there?"

Emma shakes her head. "No, that's not right. Hornbeam was gone. The lab was empty when we got there." She looks confused. "Why do I have two memories?"

Vance turns on the TV. Geno is giving a live conference about Prosapia's newest designer Pokeballs. "He seems normal."

Emma sits, eyes unfocused. "Yes. Act normal." She regains her composure.

Clair puts a hand on her head. "You've been messed with. I think it's just this though. You'll be fine after a few days. The false memories should fade."

Emma crushes a can in her hand. "Thank you Clair. If you all don't mind, I'd like to be alone now."

You say nothing. Clair says nothing too. It’s awkward. You wait around the bus terminal snack machine while the others sort out the luggage and tickets.

“I-” You both begin.

She gestures for you to go first.

“I figure we can loop around and end up in Ampberg. It’s a little out of your way, but you’d end up close to your gym after.”

“Oh.” She says, looking away.

“That is, if you don’t mind coming along a little longer. I mean, I don’t want to bug you too much. We wouldn’t have made it out of the ruins without you.”

She hides a smile. “Judy is probably having a hard time.” That’s a lie.

“I’d miss you if you left. Robin would too. We all would. I like having you around Clair.” You feel a bit awkward now too. This honest emotion stuff is hard. It’s easier when you just manipulate people with whatever they want to hear, not tell them how you feel. “I consider you a good friend. I don’t want to be separated from you.”

You see a drop fall in front of her on the sand as she off into the distance. “Well if you need me to stay around to keep you idiots out of too much trouble, I guess I could stay. That’s what friends do, right?”

You smile. “Yeah, it’s what friends do,” you put a hand on her shoulder. To your surprise, she spins around and hugs you. You feel a wetness on your shoulder.

“Tell anybody about this and I’ll make you think you’re a mudkip,” she mutters into your shoulder. She quickly pushes back when Jeanine comes around the corner. She mutters something about allergies and calls you a name.
