"Am I to understand that we will be transporting illegal goods? Regardless I would know what it is I am transporting and how 'handsomely' it is we will be payed. You speak in vague ways and I would have straight answers."

You say humorlessly and you see Valka nod in agreement. It seems she does not trust Oz very much.

"Well, illegal is a very strong word. I prefer 'slightly less than legal', but yes I will admit that much, it would be bad if any local officials were to take interest in the crates. That being said, the once condition to the job is specifically that you do not know what is in the crates or look inside of them. If you did... well that could cause a lot of problems for both of us. If you don't want to take the job that's fine, we all go our separate ways and life goes on. I will however say that the job pays one hundred gold pieces for each of you."

He replies simply, an earnest smile never leaving his child-like features.

"So what say you Eirik? Interested?"

>What do you say?

>I do not like it... but that is a lot of gold and I need the money. I accept.

>Very well Oz, you have yourself a deal.

>Nay, Urfartha only knows what's in those crates. I do not feel comfortable dealing in such things.

>What do you think Valka? You have as much right to an opinion here as I do.

Damn, I forgot to mention that.
In essence a gold piece could feed a man decently for about a week, and lodge him in a not too run down inn. One hundred gold is approximately around a thousand dollars in Arvahn, it won't but you a boat or anything but it's nothing to scoff at and will kept you fed and boarded for quite a while.
I'll come up with a more precise conversion rate for you guys soon.

"What do you think Valka? You have as much right to an opinion here as I do."

You say as you turn to her and she mulls over the question a moment to responding.

"Something feels wrong about this. I've heard of a powder that is smuggled here that drives men to need it like we need food and it ruins them. It's possible that may be what these crates have. That being said, that is a lot of money. It will keep up fed for a long time to come. Plus I could always use a new weapon. I leave the decision to you, it is you who was originally spoke with Oz and I find myself trusting your judgement."

Oz looks at you expectantly.

>What do you say?

>Nay, if we were transporting something of that nature it would not rest easily upon my shoulders

>We cannot say for certain what is in these crates, and gold speak with a loud voice even in these lands. I accept.

>It does not sit well, but if we are to make our way in this land we must be certain we have the means to survive. Very well Oz, you have our hands.

"Ah well, so be it. Regardless it was a pleasure to meet you. I must however ask that you tell no one about what we discussed here, for your own safety of course."

One of the large men flanking the door opens it and motions that you are free to leave. You share a look with Valka just as you stand.

"If you have clean work in the future we may be interested. Until then we will be making our own path."

You stride out of the hole in the wall with your head held high with Valka behind you. The door closes behind you and the two of you are left alone in the alley.

"Not that I won't sleep easier tonight with a clear conscious, but if we're to have more then a few nights worth of food we should probably look for some kind of work. So what should we do now?"

Valka asks with a shrug.

>What do you say?

>Let us acquaint ourselves with the city, it will be easier to relate to the locals if we can gain some insight to their culture

>Perhaps there is a job board or a bounty board of some kind. I've rarely seen a place where there isn't payment for a person with an axe they know how to use.

>Mayhaps we can speak to a merchant caravan, working as guards for one could be a good way to make a name for ourselves, and it could be lucrative.

Once we've seen to that let us acquaint ourselves with the city, it will be easier to relate to the locals if we can gain some insight to their culture."

Valka nods and approved of this plan and the two of you head on your way. After a bit of wandering you see a rather ramshackle board that seems to have a half dozen or so pieces of paper stuck to it that rests outside of a small shack in a similar state of repair. An old Lao Xian man sits on the porch of the shack and smokes from a long pipe, his eyes gazing in the distance.

The two of you approach the board only to find that everything written on the board is written in the strange language of the natives. The characters seem random at best, with few appearing to repeat themselves and each more intricate and difficult to read then the last.

The most common tongue is Caeldenian and Karavashian because they tend to do the most travelling and trade, though Caeldenian is considered the 'common' tongue just because they seem to find themselves everywhere. That is the language you are currently speaking. In harbor cities you'll find the most multilingual but if you go further in most people will speak the regional tongues.

"Excuse me honoured elder, we have just arrived and have yet to learn your language, would you mind reading the board for us."

You ask the old man as politely as you can in the hopes that he can understand you. His gaze shifts to you slowly and he breathes out a large cloud of smoke before slowly standing with his cane in hand and hobbling over to the board. He lifts the cane and points at each paper as he speaks.

"This one says to hunt local bandit leader. Named 'Po the Mountain'. Very big, has a gang of bandits. Buy you're big too. Bounty worth twenty gold. This one asks to clear out local streak of tigers. They kill all the yaks needed for farms. Bounty is thirty gold. This one asks to find lady's pig. Got out of it's pen. Bounty five gold. Rest all asking for fishermen and farmhands. You look like neither."

The old man mentions with a small cackle before turning to you.

"If you want to know more ask. I point you in the right direction."

"I am curious about these.... tigers. First can you tell me... what is a tiger?"

You ask tentatively. The old man looks at you for a moment then throws his head back and laughs.

"Big cat. Very big cat. Sharp claws, sharp teeth, bigger than two of you combined and very fast. They located few miles northeast of Fueng. Nobody knows how many there are, bring back a few skins for proof and you get paid."

You nod.

"And what about the bandit?"

The old man shrugs.

"Not much to say. Big man, big hammer, bigger appetite. Lives in old abandoned farm to the west of Fueng, likes to ambush travelers on the road. Bring his hammer as proof."

He proceeds to give you more precise instructions for locating both the tigers and the bandits.

"Anything else?"

"Can you tell me anything I should know about Lao Xia?"

You ask.

"Hah! There are many things, but I will tell you the most important ones. The island you are on is called Shu'Ma, and this place is the most welcoming to outsiders, it is one of the three islands ruled by the Emperor of the Sea. If you travel to other islands they may be less kind, especially those ruled by the Emperor of the Heavens. They believe outsiders bring only misfortune and it has caused... less than kind feelings between the two Emperors. Do not be surprised if people stare, until recently we have not opened our ports to outsiders and many will think you are strange. That being said many merchants have been looking for foreign workers to help them, they do not fear the same way we do they say. Anything more then that and you may as well sit down while I tell you about our land."

The old man says.

"Do you know anything about a halfling named Oz?"

The old man's eyes harden as you speak the name.

"I have heard of him. They say he brings great misfortune to the land wherever he goes. I have heard him called a Trade Prince by other outsiders, he is very rich, very dangerous. I would stay away from him if you are smart."

You nod and begin to digest the information.

"Do you know of a local tavern that we can visit?"

The old man nods and smiles.

"Yes, the Brass Yak it's down the street on the left. You'll see a big statue of a Yak in front of it. Can't miss it."

You reach into your coin purse which is not as full as you wish it was and fish our two silver pieces and give them to the old man.

"Have a drink on my as thanks for your trouble."

You say and the the old man gives you the first genuine smile you've seen from him and gives a small half-bow before going back to his porch. You turn to leave and Valka follows you.

"What do you think Valka? Any thoughts on where we should start?"

You ask as you walk in the general direction of the Brass Yak that the old man mentioned.

"Bandits are usually cowards with swords, but this Po the Mountain sounds like a cut above the rest. It's good money though and it's easy to fight men. I've never fought a tiger before, but if they're anything like the lions of my home they won't go down easy. If we want more stable work we might want to look into those merchants the old man mentioned. Regardless I'm thirsty and I could use a drink of something that isn't water."

She says, chuckling with her last thought.

The two of you make your way to the Brass Yak and enter the tavern. A collection of all sorts of strange folk inhabit the tavern, it seems that this is the local spot for outsiders to come, drink and swap stories. A variety of stools are left unused in front of the bar and a few unoccupied tables litter the building. You both make your way to the bar and seat yourselves.

"I'll have what she's having, and some food. Don't care what it is, I'm going to need it."

You grunt as you toss a silver piece onto the counter to joing Valka's. After a spell you are brought a mug of a drink you have never seen before. It has a potent odor and the server tells you it is made by fermenting rice. It tastes strong but you don't dislike it. The food you are brought is a fish dish, seasoned and prepared on top of a bowl of noodles in a broth. It tastes... different but it fills your belly all the same and you find yourself satisfied.

"This... what the hell do they call it? Well whatever it is, it's not bad, but I shouldn't drink any more or I might grab my axe by the wrong end. Anything else you want to do before we head out?"

Valka says with a laugh before asking about what to do next.

"Let's go kill some bandits."

You say with a grin and Valka's smile meets yours. The two of you stand, thank the server and make your way to where the old man said you could expect to find the bandits. From what he told you there are two options for confronting the bandits. You can either attempt to draw them out by traveling the road and getting them to ambush you or by trying to attack them in the abandoned farm they inhabit. The first may put you at a disadvantage due to the fact that even expecting them they may catch you off guard, however if you attack their base it will likely be more fortified. Both options have their advantages and disadvantages.

>What do you do?

You and Valka decide to raid their base, there will likely be spoils to collect there and if these cowards prey upon others when they aught to be safe then they should know this fear themselves.

After a few hours of walking through the thick forest of the wilderness you discover the farm in question. Four men patrol the perimeter of the grounds and you imagine more likely wait inside the farm itself.

You tell Valka to circle around and that you'll each take two of them. You crouch low and approach the two bandits you have claimed as your own, they appear to be chatting in Lao Xian.

>2 Pass
>Success

You heft your shield off of your back and onto your arm and grip your axe in hand. You look across the field over to Valka and you nod to her. You turn back to your victims to be and rush forward. Before either of them can turn to see what is happening you smash the first bandit across the back of his head with your shield with a sickening crack. The other bandit turn and prepares to cry out in warning but the blade of your axe cuts him off as you bury it into his skull and his words are caught in his throat.

Valka's battle ends as swiftly as your own as you see her heft her massive axe and decapitate her second bandit with brutal efficiency. To be certain that the first bandit is dead you bash his skull in with your axe before wiping it off in the nearby grass. Luckily it seems that you have yet to raise the alarm as the four bandits died quietly enough.

>What do you do now?

>Set fire to the farm house, slaughter them as they flee
>Charge in and make them regret their cowardice
>Call out a challenge, they should die knowing who it is that delivers them to death

It's kind of surprising honestly, SAQ is so full of bickering conversation a thread usually only lasts like two or three hours.

Then again this quest seems to be less popular, which is a bit disappointing but at least I seem to have an audience.

Best news.

It's great to have an audience. I think the error or turning point that occurred in SAQ was quest immediately from the get go advertised the possibility of romance and waifu-ing, which attracted the vocal anons and plenty of participants(be it Nivah fags Cael'la fags, Ara~Ara~fags, all the waifu-fags, and shitposter who hate the fags mentioned before).
>>37786050
I agree with the fact that there's no ranting between players, I'm just slightly disturbed by the difference in the amount of activity that occurrs between the loud and busy SAQ and strangely quiet SSQ.
