You are a Magical Girl.

...

Yeah, that's what you are. Just a Magical Girl. You've always been one.

And nothing will change that.

Not Ahriman, not Oriko, not Pinky. Not even the gaudy cocktail dress you're wearing for a costume - or the skeletal wings sticking out of your back - will change that either.

You are a Magical Girl, and you'll stay a Magical Girl until the day you croak.

And your name has never been Akemi Homura.

It has always been Chiaki Matsuda.

And you are going to kill everyone involved in making you look like a slutty cosplay of some character in a after-dark anime that people like Souji masturbates to--

...Oh. Wait. You already were, even before this.

Well, shit.

No, you're just going to kill Ahriman. Or at least, kill her enough until you can save Oriko, just like you promised.

You and your fucking promises. When will you ever learn?

To do that, though, you have to get where the bitch is, first. And from what you can gather, she'd flown her way up to the penthouse - or whatever's the highest point in this fucking skyscraper, things stopped making spatial sense and logic after the magic-slinging cunt sent a giant goat demon at you - and was now doing somethig vile up there. You don't know what, but it sounds like she's shrieking, chanting, crying and laughing. All at the same time.

Bad news, most likely. It was always bad news.

So you and your team pound your way up again through the stairs, humping the weight of your readied weapons as well as your own tired bodies in pursuit of the main objective. Mami at point, Wendy in the middle, and you bringing up the rear.

...You were supposed to be point, and for a couple of floors you were, until Wendy finally complained of being slapped in the face with your wings one two many times. You tried to snap them close to your back, but it only made them twitch and quiver in response.

They moved out of the way out of everything else without you having to do anything, though, so there was that tiny consolation. You wouldn't be dying an embarrassing death with your new wings catching you up in some narrow corridor or doorway just yet.

Besides, if there was anything from your new...transformation that had a chance of killing you outright, it would be your goddamn cocktail dress.

It is, without question, the worst thing about this entire deal. Worse than the wings. Worse than the stockings. Worse than the huge red ribbon in your hair that slapped against your face with every movement.

Worse than hearing the faint echo of a thousand magical girls screaming in your head whenever you exhaled.

First off, it's thin - whatever material the damn thing was made of, it was a material that's markedly thinner than silk, and clung to your figure with an annoying bodysuit-like tenacity. Second, it barely covered anything - or at least, anything that fucking mattered, whereas your original costume covered enough of your body that you could at least feel safe in a firefight. Finally - the skirt or the train or whatever the fuck it was, it was long enough to drag on the floor behind you, emitting a snakelike hiss no matter what surface it rasped against.

You would've been annoyed by the ever-present distraction of the noise if you hadn't already been fucking PISSED at how the dress seem to actively trip you up every couple of steps. This of course forced you to wield the Desert Eagle with one hand, while the other hiked the garment up enough so you can move without the risk of breaking your face open with an ill-timed fall.

...So, yeah. Briefly transformed into some kind of super-slutty super Witch, before suffering through a particularly bad case of combined megalomania and schitzophrenia, with wings poking out from your shoulder blades like some kind of original character a gloomy pigtailed kid in the second year of middle school would scrawl at the back of her journal...and what you complain about is the fucking dress.

At least your habit of focusing on the small problems than the bigger ones is still intact. Might be a good sign.

You growl something foul underneath your breath and press on, pounding after Wendy on the slow ascent up to Ahriman's final stand.

And then--

>>37770716

+ This is Miki Sayaka, Eversor. + The voice of your Equerry rakes over your mind, pulsed through the mental connection you shared with your entire Kill-Team. Her voice, but...changed. Stiff, somehow. Almost robotic. A far cry from the clipped tones that was just a breath away from a snarl, or a growl. + Secondary objective...reached. Requesting location check for...immediate synch-up. +

It's Sayaka, alright, but...not her at all.

Ahead of you, you hear Mami gasp, at the same time you see her knuckles turn white on her rifle's handle. + Miki-san, we're headed towards the top of the skyscraper. Ahriman's waiting for us there. Please hurry. + She pauses here, before continuing. + We'll make it out of here. All of us. Even Kyoko. I promise, Miki-san, so please-- +

+ Orders. Received. + The same dull intonation cuts her off. + En route. +

...How do you react?

[]Ask Mami what's wrong with Sayaka.

"What's wrong?" You call up to Mami, speaking in your real voice, unwilling to let anything inadvertently slip through the pulsed connection. All three of you still moving, still pounding your way up the stairs, not missing a step despite the unease clear in the atmosphere. "Mami? What's wrong with Sayaka? Why the hell is she--"

"It's something about her contract," Mami suddenly replies, and you're shocked to your core at the tremor in her voice. "All contracted Eversors usually develop something inside them that makes them go....well, berserk during times of stress. It can usually be trained out of them during basic, or at least controlled enough through meditation and behavior modification." You hear her swallow painfully with a dry throat. "For Miki-san, though, she got something worse. Something much more dangerous than just a hair-trigger temper."

...You're not liking the sound of this.

"Let's just say she learned how to control that side of her in a different way, and from how she sounds..." She pauses again to take a breath. "...that way has been...severely compromised. It also means she's..."

...close to Witching Out?

Mami nods after a moment. "...Nothing we tried worked. We tried everything, bar shoving her into a Silent Room and keeping her sedated on narcotics. Whenever that side of her woke up, it also corrupted her Soul Gem to the point that we were burning a month's supply of Grief Seeds just to get her above the breaking limit." And then, of all things, a smile breaks upon her face - a hesitant, fearful one but a smile nonetheless. "If...if she's still talking, though, that means Miki-san is still with us. She's still fighting."

[1/2]

You mull this over, confusion and relief warring inside you. On one hand, you'r relieved Sayaka's not going to Witch Out in mid-operation - your relationship with her had been rocky at the very start, but things between the both of you had been improving, helped massively by Kyoko herself. But then, if she's in this state...

You stop in your tracks, and the remains of your Kill-Team immediately stop with you.

Then, Kyoko's...

No. Not Kyoko. Not her.

"We don't know for sure, unless we ask." Mami shakes her head. "And at the moment, I'm...not sure we should ask, either."

What do you do?

>>

When this is over, our orders to her and Mami should be to get Sayaka to the witch core asap.

Screw the grief seeds. She needs the core.

Also I wonder what happens if she uses the witch core of her own alternate self...bad things? Good things? Does she return to being an angel of magical girl Valhalla?
>>
>>37771328 >>37771334 >>37771338

You nod. Yeah, it...might be a bad idea to ask Sayaka about Kyoko now.

It doesn't matter anyway. Not right now. Someone still needs to pay for everything that's happened, and you're not the one getting stiffed with the bill.

Your grip tightens on your Desert Eagle as the three of you resume your way up the stairs. Whether Kyoko was still alive or not - and you desperately hoped she still was - you swear that you'll make Ahriman apologize for hurting your best friend before you kill her.

And then, you'll save Oriko. Because that's what Kyoko would've wanted.

After a few more floors, though - and hearing Ahriman's waspish chanting grow louder and louder with every floor you ascend - it's here that you grit your teeth and indulge your own burning curiosity. Briefly closing your eyes to focus on your connection with Midori. To ask her about about how Kyoko is doing. Just a clue, just something to go on.

...

Nothing. Not even a pulse of acknowledgement. Only dead, empty air.

So not even that, then?

"It must be whatever Ahriman's doing," Mami calls down to you. "It's getting increasingly hard to try and even pulse to each other. I just tried to ask Yuma for a teleportation lock, in case we need it. Nothing's going through."

Great. Just...fucking great.

"...We need to get up there faster." Wendy says suddenly, turning towards you briefly, her eyes narrowed. "The stairs are just going to slow us down. We need to take the same route she took - straight up, right through the floors."

What? Like, flying, then? She wants you to fly?

"Can't you? You've got wings, right? We can just hang on, and stuff."

...You don't even know HOW to fucking fly! They're just sticking out your fucking back like...like dildos! You're not even sure if you can carry their weight along with yours--

>>
>>37772356

"No need to fucking shout, Kong. I just thought you'd want to get this over with faster." Wendy shakes her head at you, frowning. "Fine. Let's just keep humping up these stairs, then. Hopefully whatever shit Ahriman's doing up top doesn't finish before we get there. Feels like she's trying to set up something huge for us."

Hnh. Yeah, you get that too. If you were in Ahriman's place, and you knew your assassins would be charging up the stairs, then you'd be doing all you can to prepare for their arrival. Readying one big final showdown that'll make them regret ever trying to kill you in the first place.

"Right? And seems to me the fucked-up chanting has something to do with that, besides blocking pulsed comms." Wendy's knife gleams in her hand. "Your choice, Kong. This is your op."

What do you do?

...Against your better judgement, you decide to give flying a try.

Seriously? Flying? With these things? They barely even look like wings! They look less than something that could actually get you airborne and more like some art hipster's idea of a 'deep' and 'philosophical' metal sculpture about the impermanence of life - with feathers pasted onto random spots using a fucking glue gun!

"...This kinda place, you learn really quickly that it's not always about what it looks like, but what it symbolizes." Wendy says quietly as all three of you look down from lip of the crater that Ahriman had made on her way up to the top. A look up gets you an eyeful of the roiling sea of black that was the Akashic Realm's sky - with what looks like crimson stormclouds manifesting here and there, barely visible in the gloom yet clearly illuminated by a gibbous moon. "For all we know they could work like fucking jetpacks themselves, since they look freaky enough."

Is that right?

"Not like we haven't seen anything just as weird. Or weirder." Despite her perenially-sullen tone of voice, anyone could have detected the smile in her voice. "Like a Warmaster of an Officio Assassinorum handing over her own Soul Gem to the main objective."

Tou-fucking-che.

"Not the time, you two." Tomoe says mildly, managing to look calm despite the fact that Ahriman's chanting has all three of you on edge. "Well, Chiaki-san? Are you up to this or not? We can have Tiny Pete summoned instead if you're not sure--"

No, you shake your head. You'll do this. You have the fucking wings on anyway, and they don't seem to be coming off so you may as well try.

Mami nods. "Then, please be careful. Just shout the moment you think it's going badly or you're going to fall, and I'll catch you." She presses what seems like a bit of yellow ribbon into your gloved hand. It's...you're not sure what it's for, but it's comforting to hold at least.

Right. Now...

You close your eyes and focus. Focusing yourself like you've done a hundred times before, just like whenever you wanted to speak to the spirit inside a Golden Weapon you had on hand. Focusing on the wings half-spread, have-folded on your back. Concentrating on spreading them to their full wingspan, to control them, to use them for flight. To use them to help you kill Ahriman.

Something screams in the distance, and you jerk your head to try and hear where the sound came from without opening your eyes. Another scream, this time much closer, so close you swore you heard what killed the screamer as her last cry ends in a burbling hiss. A cut to the throat, simple and quick and horrifically messy.

Then, more screaming. And more. And more.

Filling your ears, filling your every thought, overlapping them and erasing your own. A cacophony of death screams, their seperate agonies melding together into an orchestra of pain. All of them crying out your name in a thousand voices, begging for destruction.

And then, you open your eyes.a

And see yourself hovering over the crater Ahriman had left on the floor on her way up. Your wings fully spread, each feather streaming flames of cold black fire. Wendy and Mami looking up at you from below, the both of them looking rather surprised about the whole thing, but also...well, properly scandalized. Of the two, Wendy seems to be blushing the most, the American studiously keeping her eyes riveted towards a particularly uninteresting spot on the floor.

Alright, fine, you can understand being surprised, you ARE fucking flying on what amounts to skeletal wings with the barest suggestion of feathers. And you don't even have to keep flapping them to stay aloft - something, most likely the black fire, is keeping you airborne.

But what the fuck is up with Wendy now?

"I'm...pretty sure it's nothing to worry about." Mami says after a moment, her voice and words level, but there's an obvious hesitation as she says these words. "Um, well, at least this answers the mystery of whether you can fly or not, Chiaki-san, right?" She smiles here, the curling of her lips one moment too quick to be genuine. "...Do you think you can carry all three of us to the top, then?"

You look down on them again, before flexing your wings. ...Whatever is keeping you up doesn't seem to be relying at all on any sort of external propulsion limited by weight or fuel or anything like that. So yeah, probably. All three of you should be fine, unless you let go of them or something.

Another moment's hesitation. Just a single moment, nothing more, before Mami steps forward and takes your outstretched hand. "Good enough for me," She smiles, before turning to your ex. "Wendy, please take Chiaki's other hand. Come on, so we can get this over with as quickly as possible."

Wendy is slower to commit than Mami, but when she does, she looks up at you with clear concern in her eyes.

"...Doesn't it hurt, Kong?" She whispers.

Hurt? What, flying? ...Not really, why?

"Your wings're...they're using stuff from this place to make you fly." She murmurs. "You're literally burning the souls of the fucking damned to fly."

...What?

"...And that's the coolest fucking thing I've ever seen."

Guys, according to the write-ups, Amber Nakajima was contracted because she was a human that killed magical girls, so they forced or her unless she accepted death. So, probably, Oriko will have the same option. Also, think about this:
>Oriko, considering your previous acts, and given the fact that you were possesed, you are either going to contract or die. Your choice?
>Contract
>Very good. Now, Haruka Amane, with this new recruit, your prognosticator abilities are no longer needed. Your new role in the officio will be personal bedwarmer of Chitose Yuma.
>That will be all. Now, if you excuse me, I´m going to kill a bottle of wishkey and fuck Midori until she passes out. Have a nice day

She wears panties made of butthurt. I wonder how that feels.

Your wings are running on fucking WHAT?

You turn your head to glance at them, and Wendy is...well, she's right. Not that you're suddenly an expert on witch-born flight technology that's somehow fueled by tortured souls. You're not even into ghosts or stuff like that, even if you regularly talk to some and try to avoid one entirely.

No, you know she's right because each black flame licking from your wing's feathers seem to be flickering with the screaming faces of the dead.

...Yeah, you concede after a long moment, looking back at Wendy finally. Yeah, actually, that is pretty cool.

Just one thing before you get this started, though. She was looking earlier, you saw her, and...well, you really can't tell with this fucking outfit, but are you wearing anything--

Wendy looks at you in stony silence, her cheeks reddening, before shaking her head.

...Fucking hell, this costume. This fucking costume.

So, trying to put that particular tidbit out of your mind, your wings still aflame with the souls of the damned - you decide to get on with it, finally. Asking your two passengers if they're ready.

"Ready." They both intone, in perfect unison, both their hands holding tighter onto yours.

Murmuring something underneath your breath, you spread your wings out to their fullest capacity, and then beat them downward. Once.

And your own scream nearly joins the damned choir in your head as you shoot straight up, fast, faster than you've ever felt, faster than anything. Each floor flashing past in an ear-spitting roar of air and displaced sound. You hear Wendy screaming, too, just as her grip on your hand tightened even more.

Mami never screamed, though. Not once. In that fevered second of blinding, death-defying speed - she never screamed.

[1/2]
>>
>>37775848
Did you plan this?
>>
>>37776068

In front of you stood an army. One bigger than the horde of screaming fanatics you murdered earlier, along with the huge goatish daemon with the leathery wings. This time, Magical Girls stood before you, in neat and ordered ranks. Their costumes clean, if a bit washed of color. Their bodies untouched by the Akashic Realm's corrupting touch, yet...stiff, emotionless, implacable. Their faces blank, with the exception of their eyes: all of them glowing with a sick green light as they focused on you and only you.

"They're like zombies," Mami gasps as all three of you touch down, feet back on solid ground at last. The relief is short-lived, though, as even Wendy seems disturbed by the sight.

"THEY COME!" Ahriman shrieks at the other end of the courtyard, grasping the Golden Staff, her own wings brilliantly white and immaculate. An angel's wings. "COME TO SLAY US, TO WIPE OUR OFFICIO FROM MEMORY! THE HERETIC, GIVEN HER SECOND BREATH THROUGH FOUL SACRIFICE! THE DECEIVER, THE PRODIGY OF THAT TRAITOROUS WRETCH AND WHORE HARUMI RYOUNO - AND THE WITCH HERSELF!" She points the staff at you. "SLAY THEM, MY RUBRICAE! SLAY THEM ALL!"

Well. So much for fucking diplomacy, then.

What do you do?

Prose Magica: The Ballad of the Seventeenth 21

Two months, she had been contracted. In two months, her life had been battered, broken and reshaped into something that would have seemed utterly alien before. Her father had struck it rich. She found a true best friend. She had met and - if she was being bold - become friends with the most powerful magical girl in the country. She had lived in a true mansion for all of a week before her father was murdered and the mansion nearly destroyed in the process. Now, nearly two weeks later, she was back to the suburbs, living with her new best friend's family like one long sleep-over.

But all of that aside, perhaps the strangest thing of all was how... normal it all felt. Her old world had been ripped to unrecognizable shreds and Mona Bernard simply nodded and took it in stride. It was as if she had forfeited her normal, teenaged girl life upon contracting and already knew that everything was bound to fall apart sooner or later. She just had to pick up the pieces and glue them back together. Make something tougher. Something stronger.

For the third time in the past ten minutes, she pulled out her expensive new smartphone to check the time, as though waiting for a call that would never come. Across the room, Meg Laurie laid across her bed, playing yet another video game starring big-eyed characters with unusual hair. It was the only thing Mona ever saw her play.

The smaller girl rolled over on her side and cocked an eyebrow at Mona. "You okay?" She asked. "You keep lookin' at that thing like when people check the fridge and expect new food to appear."

Mona was shocked for a moment, then laughed and shook her heard. She didn't even realize that Meg had been paying attention. "Just... It's nothing, don't worry about it."

"You wanted to call Odette, right?" Meg asked. "Thinkin' about doing that?"

Mona sighed, then smiled at her friend. "Why do I bother?"

Well if they're true Rubricae then no matter how many times you kill them their souls can still be bound again to a new body.

Forever and ever.

But I'm just a WH nerd I don't know anything actually relevant.

"I'm in your head Bernard!" Meg waved her fingers by her head like a pair of antennae. "I know all your secrets!"

"But it's seven o'clock..."

"C'mon, she went to go talk to whatshername at two in the morning," Meg argued, twisting around to sit on the edge of her bed. "Do it, nerd."

"But that was-"

"Doooooo iiiiiitttttt."

"Fine," Mona groaned as she heaved herself out of her beanbag chair. "I'll be right back."

The other Eversor flashed her a bright smile and a thumbs up as she stepped out of the room. Mona hadn't gotten around to adding Odette's number to her contacts - it felt far too personal - and so had to check back and forth from Holly's text to get the number right. Numbers had never been her strong suit. She leaned back against the wall just outside of the bedroom and stuck the sleek phone to her ear, still holding it rather clumsily after being used to cellphones that looked and felt like small bricks.

The phone rang over and over, giving Mona a sense of relief, thinking the former Warmaster might not even pick up. But the fourth ring was cut off by sounds of shuffling cloth before an increasingly familiar, and out-of-breath sounding voice answered, "Yo, hey, what's up, kiddo?"

"Uh- Hey," Mona replied, "is, um, is this a bad time? I can-"

"Nonono, well- I can talk," Odette said, sounding just the slightest bit guilty. "What's up?"

"I was just wondering if I could talk to you about the thing I mentioned early. I kinda wanted to get it out of the way before the funeral, but if you're busy-"

"Hey, no worries," Mona was constantly astounded at how friendly Odette sounded, especially compared to the rumours. "Sounds like something you might want to talk about in person, though, right? How about I swing by in a little bit and pick you up?"

"I, um," Mona stammered, caught off guard. "If you're sure it's no trouble..."

"Great! Fifteen minutes good for you?"

"Sure-"

"Actually, make it twenty-"

"Are-"

"OW," Odette shouted over the phone, "that hurt! Fu- Half an hour? Is that good?" It sounded more like the former Warmaster was asking someone on the other line. "Women. Okay, thirty minutes. See you then! And, uh, tell your friend I said hi."

"She'll," Mona paused, a bit incredulous that Odette even remembered Meg, "she'll like that. Thanks. Later."

"Good, good. Take care, kiddo."

As the phone went silent, Mona nearly collapsed against the wall. It didn't feel normal anymore. The understanding of who Odette was, the fact that she was dropping her business to visit Mona, on top of casually casually calling her 'kiddo'. It wasn't normal at all. Her back slid down the wall as Mona lowered herself to sit on the floor. A moment to collect herself, that's all she needed. Just a moment to make sure she wouldn't cry.

She wasn't sure how long she'd been outside when she felt an arm around her shoulders. It probably wasn't long, knowing Meg. The shorter Eversor pulled her close, rubbing her shoulder and whispering comforts.

"C'mon, Momo," Meg said, smiling gently, "gotta get ready. Can't have you lookin' all red-eyed and puffy-faced, right?"

Mona nodded, wiping her tears away with a sleeve.

"Here," Meg said, shoving a tissue into Mona's hands, "blow."

Mona did. A few tissues later and her nose was already feeling hot and sore. She could only imagine how red it must have been. Meg squeezed her shoulder and the pair sat together on the floor until they heard the low hum of an engine pulling up to the house. Mona was pulled to her feet and hurried along into the bathroom while Meg rushed down to meet their guest so fast that she nearly fell down the stairs.

By the time Meg reached the front door, Odette had nearly done the same. The door juddered and squealed as it opened, not quite fitting the frame properly.

"Yo, hey," Meg said, "she's just getting clea- getting ready. You wanna come in for a little?"

Odette laughed and shook her head. "Nah, nah. Nice and cold out here. Rough night?"

Meg opened her mouth to say something, but couldn't find the words. Instead, she just nodded.

"Been there," Odette said. "Too many times, really. How about you? Holdin' up okay?"

"Ah, y-you know," the dark-haired girl said with a shrug, "I'm still working through the whole 'Odette-freakin'-Brighton is at my house' thing. Just wish... y'know..."

"Under better circumstances, yeah. I've got a feeling I'll be swinging by more often. Hopefully you'll see me around the office more, too."

"Oh! You know what you should do is- is- um, actually..."

"What?"

"Well," Meg gave a sheepish grin, "I was gonna say you should come visit some of your fans, but I dunno if you'd want to do something like that..."

Odette shrugged. "Wouldn't hurt. Might help get some of that old Warmaster swagger back."

"SERIOUSLY?!"

"Sure, why not?"

"Oh man. OH MAN," the junior Eversor said, practically bouncing in place with excitement. "THIS IS WHY YOU'RE THE BEST! I gotta tell everyone. Oh man, oh man... MOMO, HURRY IT UP!"

"I'M COMING," Mona called back, moments before appearing at the top of the stairs. Though her face was cleaned, Mona's eyes were visibly red, even from the doorway. The tall Eversor wore the same plain, navy and white tracksuit that she usually wore for training, clearly in no mood to get dressed up, even for eminent company.

"Yo," Odette waved, then cocked a thumb at the steel behemoth waiting at the curb. "Ready to go?"

"Are you watching closely?"

"I'm watchin', I'm watchin'."

The Bartender kept close watch as the deck fluttered in front of her eyes. Across from her sat a golden-eyed girl with long, feathery pink hair topped with a gigantic, purple witch hat. She never seemed to break eye contact with the redhead as she shuffled the cards - never once looking down as her fingers moved faster than the Bartender thought humanly possible. She was Callidus Rank Leader, professional stage magician, comedian and three time winner of the annual Miss Seventeen beauty pageant, May White.

May flicked a card up, holding it between two fingers "Is this your card?"

The Bartender shook her head. It was the two of spades, not the four of diamonds.

"Damn it, I thought I had that one..."

"You're slippin', kiddo."

May pouted and her purple cloak flapped as she reshuffled the deck. "One more time..."

The Bartender's eyes wandered across her establishment. It was a busy night, to say the least. Normally, she could expect maybe a dozen patrons on a week night - tonight, however, the building seemed packed to the brim. Almost every booth and table seemed to be filled, leaving the cocktail waitresses very little room as they flitted back and forth. On the other hand, perhaps owing to the presence of the Rank Leader, not a single soul sat at the bar itself.

At last, the pink-haired girl slapped the deck on the table. "Pick any card!"

The Bartender rubbed her eyes and considered the cards for a moment, before splitting the deck in half and taking the middle card, eliciting a smirk from her companion. The smirk, however, faded as the Bartender flipped up the ace of diamonds.

"Well," the redhead muttered, "it would have been pretty impressive if it worked, I guess."

May groaned, then swiped the deck off the table and stuffed it into her pocket. "Whatever," she grumbled. "Can you get me another coaster? My drink's sweatin' like a blind lesbian at a fish market."

The comment got a snort out of the Bartender. "Every time," she said, shaking her head as she reached under the table. "Hang on..."

May's eyes seemed to twinkle as an enormous grin crept onto her face. From under the table, the Bartender produced a crisp, new deck of cards, still wrapped in plastic.

"You're shitting me," the redhead laughed.

"Come on, open it up! Look at the top card!"

"See, this is what I like about you, May. Even the simple things can be," the Bartender tore open the pack and picked out the top card, "eeentirely underwhelming..."

A strained, painful laugh escaped May's lungs as the Bartender turned over the queen of hearts.

"Bullshit," the Rank Leader said, though neither her lips nor the rest of her face seemed to move an inch.

"You still need that coaster?"

May shook her head, then began to look through the cards. Her brow seemed to furrow harder and harder as she did, before she finally asked, "It was the four of diamonds, right?"

"Yup."

"It's not in here," May muttered. A moment later, she fished the first deck out of her pocket and repeated the search. "It's not here!"

"Is this another trick?" The Bartender asked, snickering.

"No! It's really gone!" The magician patted herself down and checked her sleeves. "I don-"

"Hey, what's that in your drink?"

May's head jerked up to her neglected piña colada. There, sliced down the middle to garnish the rim, was the four of diamonds. It was then that she realized the voice that had tipped her off didn't belong to the Bartender, who was already doubled over laughing.

"You BITCH," May hissed at the patron leaning back against the bar beside her.

"Aw, c'mon, kiddo," Lotte said with a wink, dressed in the latex, fur-lined catsuit that was her costume, "Red's right, that would've been really good if it weren't for me."

"This is- I'm your boss now," May pouted, crossing her arms and slouching over the bar to sip at her drink, "can't do this to me..."

"So how'd she do it, huh?" The Bartender asked the newcomer. "Free drink if you tell me."

"Nice try," she said, smirking. "Un mojito, s'il vous plaît."

With an annoyed grumble, the redhead went about making the drinking, leaving the two Calliduses to themselves. The senior of the two spun on her stool to face the bar, still grinning at her junior. May had always been Lotte's star pupil, so she found it only natural to tease the magician whenever she could. She still remembered being there for May's wish four years earlier. Something about wishing to impress people and put smiles on faces - she couldn't remember the exact wording, but it was the same innocent kind of wish that always made for talented magical girls.

May took to being a magical girl like a fish to water. Somehow she even managed to handle a career of stage magic and a smattering of stand-up comedy on the side, to boot. Had she been contracted only a year earlier, she might have even beaten Lotte out for the title of Rank Leader. As good as she was, though, May never managed to work her way into the old circle of friends that dominated the senior posts in the Officio. She never seemed to want to either, always being content to stay on the sidelines. Maybe it was easier to manage her career that way.

"So how's the new job?" Lotte asked. Her costume slowly disintegrated into particles of light, revealing a turtle-neck sweater and skinny jeans underneath. A moment later, the Bartender slid her drink in front of her.
>>
May loosed a long and loud groan. "I don't know how you did it," she groaned. "One day they're smuggling booze into their bunks, the next they're sneaking out at night to go clubbing."

"It's good practice, really."

"And now all of this bullshit lately has them all riled up," May's expression sank as the brim of her hat seemed to droop further over her face. "They already want to go back to the old days with you running the rank and Odette in charge, and now Fubey does this whole invasion of privacy thing? How do you think that's going over with the prettiest princesses in the Officio?"

"Well obviously it'll ruffle some feathers, but is it really THAT bad?"

"If I had a nickel for every time I heard 'Warmaster Brighton wouldn't have let this happen', I swear. Worst part is the Vindicares being all gung-ho about this. Congratulations, Terry, you turned a grudge into a full-on blood feud-"

"Whoa, whoa," Lotte said, gesturing for May to be quiet. "Slow down, there. It's gotten worse? I haven't heard anything about this."

"Yeah, 'cause you're semi-retired," May explained. "We don't want to drag you back into that mess. And, well... yeah, okay? It's gotten worse. Feels like there's a scuffle every other day. Someone talks shit, someone gets hit. Makes me wish I was in Fred's place. At least with the Eversors I could just kick their asses if they got in trouble."

"I don't think it works quite like that," Lotte remarked. "So what's Frenchie doing about all this? Can't you guys do... I don't know, something?"

"Chloé? Christ, don't even get me started! She does so little that half the time I think she's just egging them on when I'm not looking."

"Wouldn't put it past her, I guess."

"So I figured I'd take a little time off, go do a few shows," the magician swirled her straw around. "Left Mercy and Sigma in charge of the place-"

"Mercy and Sigma 'Once Ate a Crayon On a Bet', THAT Sigma? The hell are you doin' to my rank, White?"

"Best twenty bucks I ever lost. But okay, maybe it's more like Mercy's in charge and she has her little cheerleader there for support. Can we just talk about something other than work?" May asked, trying to look a bit cheerier. "So what about you, huh? My little birdies tell me that retirement's been treating you pretty good the past few days."

"Hah, you could- you could say that," Lotte stammered, turning a bit pinker.

"So what're you doing here instead of spending time with the bae?"

"Please never use that word again," the blonde said. "Odette had to go look after some kid whose dad just died, because... Well, besides the dead dad thing, you know how O gets. Always has to be responsible for everyone else's problems."

"'Dead dad thing', very classy," May laughed. "I can see why Popsicle likes you so much."

"Shut up," Lotte laughed, "it's not like you even know the kid."

The pink-haired Callidus snickered and took a quick sip of her drink. "But I get what you're saying," she said, finally pulling the card off of her drink and flicking it at her senior, "she's got that whole- what's it called- reparation complex? That sounds like it might be a thing. Always feels like she owes the Officio more."

"That's pretty much it, yeah. Some days I worry she wants to go out with a big heroic sacrifice, just like the old lady."

"'s why you gotta tie her down, Shirley," May said, nodding at her own sage wisdom. "Give her a reason to stop sticking her neck out for every stray kitten that crosses her path. You know what I mean?"

"Don't call me Shirley."

"Point stands."

"Easier said than done," Lotte murmured. "I already tried asking her if she wanted to just settle down. Didn't work, but I still got this far. It'll take time for her to get used to a quieter life."

"You sure seem to have adapted to it fast."

"Eh," the blonde shrug, "things are never as simple as they seem."

May smiled and let out a soft chuckle. "Guess so," she replied. The magician's gaze wandered off to the stage at the far end of the building, where the Russian looked to be finishing up the night's performance. "Hey," May said, tilting her head in the direction of the stage, "you feel like giving the good people a show? Been a while since both of us were here at the same time."

Lotte turned to look at the stage, then glanced back at May as she thought. After a moment's consideration, she sighed, smiled and said, "Just let me finish my drink first."

Shattered Sword
Chapter 01 - Paperwork

Long, lithe fingers danced atop the admiral’s cap, jumping about and twirling in an elegant little dance. A skip, a jump, and a pivot, and the applause of nothing more than the sea gently pushing against the ship’s hull. Jessica sighed and set down the report, replacing it with a cup of coffee, watching the liquid slur about clumsily in the mug. She picked up the hat and spun it around a finger, before tossing it through the air, landing neatly on a coat hanger in the corner of the room behind her.

She kicked her feet up on the desk, electing to watch the sea. Though the boat seemed to sway softly to and fro, it never really bothered her. All the tales of people new to the ocean vomiting after just a while seemed almost foreign. Not that she held contempt against those who did, just she herself was never subject to such symptoms.

Paperwork was never something she could stand doing. The ridiculous amounts of effort that went into reading ‘professional’, ‘businesslike’ wording that filled the page was ultimately just something you could ask over the phone. In simpler words. But, Alice’d insisted she do it the formal way, to make sure nothing goes wrong. What a drag, Jessica thought. But, work doesn’t get done by giving it the stare of death. Unless, of course, your power had something to do with easily filling paperwork in almost nightmare-ish fits.

What a condemning power, she thought, reaching for a pen.
>>
>>37776796
A signature and a generic stamp of approval sent the paper to the top of the other pile of papers that were looked at and similarly signed and stamped. She looked at the stamp for the thousandth time that day, and frowned for the thousandth time. She really needed to figure out an emblem for their little group. Though, ‘little’ probably wasn’t - definitely wasn’t - the right word.

She moved on the next piece of paper, cramped with some size nine, ten font explaining... something under the title, ‘Request to send the Third Fleet to Boston’. Jessica furrowed her brow and read the first few sentences of the explanation:

‘As part of your advising council, I, Diana Carolina, formally request to send the Third Fleet to Boston. Competition and Law Enforcement in big cities like Boston, New York, and Los Angeles grow somewhat checked, but factors are less monitored especially so on the East Coast. With your permission, I’d like to...’

As much as Jessica didn’t want to deal with Diana, this explanation was quickly becoming annoying to even look at; fluff on top of fluff. With a reluctant sigh, she picked up her desk phone, a line connected directly between her own room and Alice’s room.

“...Jess?” A grumpy, lazy tone.

“Morning. Did I wake you up?” Jessica set down the paper and picked up a pen, twirling it between her fingers.
>>
>>37776818
“N-“ A sigh. “Yeah. Yeah, I just got up. Good afternoon, I guess. Sorry. What do you need?”

“Can you send Diana up? She’s got some request about sending the Third Fleet to Boston.”

“...Sure. I’ll send her up. At least, tell her to go up. Not sure how much she’ll want to. Also, I’m going to get break- lunch, so... yeah. Be out a while.”

“Alright. See you later. Thanks.”

It wasn’t too long before there were three hard knocks on the door.

“Come in.”

Diana Carolina, Vanus. She flicked back her long ruby hair as she sat down, crossing her legs, keeping her posture straight.

“So,” Jessica started, “Why the hell do you want to send the Third to Boston?”

“You didn’t read the explanation?” Diana lifted an eyebrow.

“Of course not. I’m not going to read this long of a goddamn description.” She gave the girl across from her a look of disdain.

“Oh, right. I forgot I can’t expect someone like you to be stand reading, much less able to.” The farthest side of the Vanus’s lip curled into a smile, almost a smirk.

“Eat shit. I’m the one with power here. Tell me why.”

Diana’s smile melted. “The first few sentences explain everything. Everything is fluff, really.” Her sapphire eyes gestured to the paper. “The only important thing not in the first few sentences is that I also want to... deal with competitors and law enforcement, if you know what I mean.”
>>
>>37776840
A nod and Jessica actually began to read the paper. She certainly wasn’t lying, it seemed. So far, at least.

“Fine.” She began signing, and Diana slouched a bit, letting out a silent sigh of relief. A stamp onto the paper - pressing with as much contempt as she could - and Jessica added it to the stack of papers. “Have fun in Boston. Don’t kill anyone too important.”

“Of course not, admiral~” The Vanus stood up to leave, heading for the door.

“Diane.”

“Yes, admiral?”

“Don’t... don’t nuke DC or anything.”

“Yes, admiral~”

With that, the girl exited stage left. Jess mused for a bit, unsure if she should’ve said anything at all. Saying that was implying that she was expecting Diane to break a lot of things. Besides, it wasn’t what she’d wanted to say in the first place.

All Jessica could do was hope Diana didn’t get too close to Varrigan.

===

Though the nighttime sky was lightless, below the clouds, the city glittered with stars of its own. Clocks read midnight, but the heavens were bright enough for it to still be just about evening. But time didn’t stand still in the outskirts - the ports, the slums, and the industrial sectors were dark as ever, if only just barely illuminated by whatever radiance out from the towers of light.

Two cranes stood above the labyrinth of shipping containers, slowly lifting them onto the cargo ship. Even they seemed to move with lethargy, groaning at the hour of which they were damned to work at. This worked in favor of the two girls, two silhouettes in the maze jumping from shadow to shadow.

Emi approached one of the containers, bearing a small red sticker on the bottom. This was surely what she was looking for, this one and the two to its right. She smiled and reached into her bag, pulling out a can of compressed air and flipped it upside down.

“Ema, I found it!”

The girl called over flinched, stealing a glance at the crane operators before joining Emi.

“Keep your voice down, for the Lady’s sake.”

“Sorry, sorry! I got a bit excited.” With a low hiss, she started painting the lock on the container a brittle white with the can. After several seconds, she summoned her own hammer and brought it down onto the lock, smashing it away with a loud clang.

“I swear, if we get caught, I’m going to kill you.”

Emi reached for the handle and pulled against a brief screech. A quick look inside revealed airtight bags cramped for bottom to top, and even a pleasant little smell.

“Yup, this is it.”

“Good. Throw that thing in there and we’ll finish up with these two others.”

Pushing her long blonde hair back behind her ear, Emi reached into her bag again, this time producing a small device, flashing every few seconds. A toss, a shut, and a lock followed.

TTC - Ch.X4

Once more, the environment around me shifted and twisted. The warped forest of deformed crystals that had been surrounding me a heartbeat ago was then replaced by a more familiar, if still ruined and tainted, city. I could sense I was growing close; very, very close. I could also sense all the death ahead of me; all the pain and destruction. It was all as if winds carried the last whispers and sorrows of the agonizing, but there was no breeze. Yet the pained pleas grazed me, brushed my ears. There's so much pain ahead.. and it felt invigorating.

I didn't waste time before starting to climb one of the tall, ruined buildings in order to get a vantage point. This had always been an useful way to use my claws for something else than destruction. I simply needed to position myself between two skyscrapers, jump once, create myself a holding point, then kick away and stab into the building on the other side. Repeating the last step I could ascend to the top of anything at ludicrous speeds.

Once I made it to the roof, I couldn't help but find a strange sensation of familiarity in the broken cityscape before me. I felt as if this was.. normal.. spending time in this place must have gotten to me more than I believed, or perhaps was it not the first time I had come here? I didn't feel alarmed or bothered by this realization in the slightest. How far gone was I really? How long had things been this way?

Always.

I would never admit it, but that nagging answer in the back of my head scared me slightly. My thoughts continued to wander as I reached into my inventory, taking out once more the metal tube containing my doses of Rose. It had been over a year now since I had lost my closest friends; those who managed to turn me into a decent person from the monster I used to be. Without them at my side.. would I regress to that state again? I couldn't help but feel this was a very real possibility...
[1/7]
>>
Yet, I had new friends now. It wasn't the same, sure, but they were good people too. They helped me in their own ways, too, so it would be wrong of me to forsake them for the sake of ghosts from my past. I took a deep breath as the drug entered my body, my senses sharpening to impossible levels and making my skin feel the every shift and fluctuation of temperature and moisture in this whimsical, unstable realm; the tiny variations of light coming from its gibbous moon.

But I had no time for those thoughts. Even though things seemed fine... Even though my destination was now closely within my reach... I could still not become complacent. Despite everything, I relaxed, feeling the sense of urgency that had been driving me decrease and quiet down. Before long, I knew I was where I needed to be.

It was easy to tell for many reasons. Firstly, the overwhelming aura of death and destruction that radiated from the building. Secondly, the unnatural amount.. nay, -horde- of creatures that guarded it from outside. Thirdly, the trail I had been following ended there. Ideally, I should avoid dealing with the hellspawns below and try to by-pass them; they were too many and it would take too long to dispose of them... but then again perhaps that was my calling here?

Now that I thought of it, I had been on my fool's errand for some time now and the fact that I could not feel misery and regret from the one who wore the skin of my old friend meant that they had been managing to be doing "well" ever since.

She must have surrounded herself with strong people.

It crossed my mind that if she and whoever she had brought along were able to handle themselves, then perhaps, just perhaps, the "divine" purpose to my presence here was to clear this cesspool so that it wouldn't interfere with whatever was going on inside. But then again I wasn't exactly going to put much stock into blind mysticism, ironically enough.
[2/7]

Oh, uh, I meant to post this picture with that writeup post:
>>
No, I would still by-pass it, and I knew exactly where to aim for. One floor in particular had all its windows blown away in a much more violent manner than the decrepit state of the rest of the building. Even if that wasn't where things were happening right now, it would most likely hold clues, so I opted to head there directly. I took a running start and leaped of the roof of the skyscraper I was currently on, aiming to burst in directly into the suspicious floor, but a strange force blocked my way like a solid barrier and forced me back.. and down.

Down into the horde. Even as I was still high up, my hyper-sensitized sight could make out their every detail already; goat-like daemon spawns with large furry legs and cloven hooves. They varied in sizes and shapes, but all shared that same main description. Some wielded weapons, others not, but it mattered little what they were and how they fought.

The only purpose to their existence right now was to die.

I no longer felt as if I had to hurry anymore; the proximity offering a strange, comforting sensation. I took a deep breath as energy gathered and built up in all my limbs, but mostly in my ebon claws. I was going to enjoy this, for once, like in the good old times...

A thunderous whip-crack resonated as I landed and released the Fel power. Baleful lightning far more massive and potent than the ones I had used on the 2nd's patrol rippled out in wild arcs and shocked everything in my immediate vicinity, clearing the area and filling my nose with the pleasant scent of freshly cooked meat while producing a massive, blinding light. I was getting pretty hungry.

My lips parted and a warm breath escaped them in the instant that followed. And so it began.

>>
The first goat found itself impaled by the throat, its lifeblood flowing down onto my claws for with an obscene gurgle before being flung back into the fray of its comrades, which lost balance from the momentum. They never had time to recover; fleshmetal danced and rent, cutting down many, but there were many, many more waiting.

In this moment, I felt relaxed. The battle-lust was present of course, but before anything else, I was glad that things seemed to have turned out fine in the end. I probably jinxed it somehow, of course, but I wanted to allow myself some positive thinking.

fists, hooves and weapons of all kind flew around me, but they felt so slow. I could twist out of the way of the daemonspawns' attacks with contemptuous ease and every strike I sent back mauled the creatures beyond their capacity to keep standing. Even in all their numbers, it was hardly a challenge, but that was a good thing. I had forgotten to cleanse my Soul Gem for a while, so I was fortunate that this would not be too taxing. I did not truly worry about Witching Out, but it was still a thing I felt was simply appropriate to keep a closer eye on than usual.

But of course, it couldn't last. It couldn't have.

A crippling pain surged through my body, but I had not been wounded. It was feedback, feedback from someone nearby and in horrible pain. I flinched for a second, but was still able to bring my suddenly abused muscles around and defend myself. I could feel that something had gone terribly wrong, but I was at a loss as to what, let alone in a position to go check myself.

Mercifully enough, a hint presented itself to me when a massive blast of energy ripped out a part of the wall on one of the upper floors. I could recognize it anywhere; Mami Tomeo's Tiro Finale, but that wasn't everything.

>>
I focused baleful energies and unleashed a barrage of explosive bolts around me to stop the goat-demons charging at me and deter the others for a moment so I could focus up there just a few seconds. Someone or something was falling down.

I could feel something was off as I focused my gaze onto the falling figure. She felt familiar, very familiar. The presence coming from her was one I recognized and knew well, but the body it wore did not look like the Magical Girl I knew. This body I did not know at all. I was confused. Still, there was at least one clue that would not lie: The weapon she held.

"I must admit, I am little surprised."

"About?"

"I expected you to be less.. mannered."

"Well, you know what they say about judging from appearances, but I'll admit I can have a short fuse too."

"Do not presume me foolish enough to do such a thing."

"Well, I digress."

"It's good that you do. Ah, the tea's arrived."

"Thanks."

"I believe you wanted to talk about this?"

"Yes, and the tea is very pleasant by the way."

"Of course, I treat my guests well after all. What was it that you wanted to know? I cannot guarantee I will answer, but I can at least humor you."

"I used to have one like that too you know." a small sigh. "Not a staff, but you know what I mean."

"Oh, did you? That would be fascinating... if it were -true-, which I find hard to believe."

"It's a long story, trust me. I'll tell you all about it in due time. More importantly, there are a few things I need to confirm. If they really are of the same kind being one of them."

"I do not believe I can trust you enough to let you lay a finger on it."

"That's fine, just talking is enough for now. I believe you've had time to consider the other.. offers I made?"

"I have."

"What's your decision?"

"Your terms are acceptable. Do you wish to begin?"

"Sure."

"Very well, I'll inform Erebus."

Ahriman.

Yes, I could tell for certain now. There was no way I would mistake her. Another barrage of Warpfire licked at the ground, keeping the goats away from me for a while longer. In hindsight, I should have expected her to be involved in whatever was going on here, but I did not. Why? I can't tell for sure. But before I could do anything or try to contact her, she was engulfed by a golden light and disappeared.

And then something else even worse happened. The presence I could feel this time was commanding enough to instill a primal fear in sane beings. It was also familiar, but in a different, strange and uncanny kind of way that just beckoned my attention. Even the hellspawns around me stopped their assault as they, too, could feel it.

Who are you. What are you. I know you, and yet not...

Yes, I remember now, that day, when I was enlightened...

How are you here now? For what purpose?

...

...

I was snapped out of my stasis by the painful feeling of a giant fist impacting onto my back, but I felt almost nothing and barely flinched. Something strange was happening to my body; something I had never felt before. Everything suddenly felt dull. The thrill of the battle? gone. The urgency from earlier? gone. Even my perception seemed to have numbed slightly.

And yet as it battered down onto me, I felt no pain either. Only a resolve that was not mine. A contempt that was not mine. A goal that was not mine and the image of a pink girl I've never met.

No, that's not right... I've met her before.. haven't I? My memory felt scrambled and hazy.

I felt like I was no longer in control of my body as the battle resumed. My limbs moved with but a faint thought, spells were casted without even making a conscious decision to and the broken streets of this twisted city landscape were set aflame. Yet, I felt like all I could do was watch.

After what felt like an eternity, my vision went black for a few seconds and I returned to normal, feeling dreadfully exhausted. There were no more goat daemons in sight, nothing but charred meat and flowing blood as far as I could see. I would have been proud of that charnel before me if I didn't have the nagging feeling that I wasn't truly the one behind it.

The strange presence that had caused this outburst seemed to be gone from the top floors now. Leaving me more confused than ever. I tried to make my way to the entrance, but staggered and tripped, ending up painfully against a wall. A short grumble later I reached out for my Inventory and snatched a Grief Seed, applying it where it was sorely needed.. then another... and another... and another. Soon enough I had spent my entire stash and I felt only half-empty, but that was good enough to at least get back on my feet. I needed a drink...

and a snack.

Yuko had been a Magical Girl for three minutes, and she already stood in front of a Witch.

She had been doing that for the entirety of her miniscule career: she remained completely still, not daring to breathe or move a single muscle in front of the titanic monstrosity before her. It felt as though if this world had a sky, the monster would have been able to touch the clouds. At the very least, it had not noticed her presence yet.

Yuko wore a thin, black trench-coat with a tall collar, a red T-shirt underneath. On her head, a visored cap, adorned with a golden, round gem at the center. On her legs, a pair of slim-fitting pants, secured by a brown leather belt. On her feet, dark leather shoes. On her hands, a pair of brass knuckles, each as long as a fist; like a fist on top of a fist.

She looked like a stereotypical Japanese delinquent wearing clothing a size bigger than what fit her, but although her clothes were larger than what she was comfortable with wearing, it suited her well, because that's what she used to be - just a delinquent.

She was here to deal with the mistakes of her previous delinquent life. Daisuke Yuko harassed Ryouichi Miyuki into a miserable, grief driven suicide, the consequences of which threatened to continue claiming more lives; those very same consequences currently surrounded and towered before Yuko in a very literal way, and they threatened to take her life first.

Her brain only then started to register the biting cold haunting the Witch’s Barrier, this infinitely stretching field of cyan ice. The discomfort became considerable enough to snap her back to reality. Yuko realized that she was about to choke on her own saliva, so she swallowed. She found it hard to do so, and the noise such a simple action caused was loud. Comically loud. So loud that the Witch turned its head at the noise. The sound echoed as if in mockery, rubbing her mistake in her face. Yuko took a deep breath; the fight was about to begin, whether she liked it or not.

Her face twisted into a scowl. She wanted to get ready of her own accord, and wished she hadn't been rushed by such a stupid error. Though, Yuko beginning this fight of her own volition was unlikely to ever happen. After all, her courage hadn't been improving as she stared at the Witch; rather, the opposite was occurring.

There was no time to get ready, and the few minutes she spent in this world were wasted on cowering. She didn’t have the slightest semblance of the combat training or mental conditioning required to take on a monster like this. All she went through was an interview with a blonde girl, filled with more "subtle" psychoanalysis than should be legal. If they really wanted to know her mental state so much, they should have just made her go to a psychiatrist, she thought. At least it would have felt more honest.

The Witch was akin to a silhouette - its body consisted of pitch black nothingness molded into the shape of a human being. A blue dress that reached down to its feet gave it an uncanny semblance of immature innocence; it previously had been soundlessly frolicking about, as if overjoyed by the azure surroundings of its home. It had wings of ice sticking out of its back, two split halves of a single snowflake.

>>37777213
When it noticed the nuisance, it turned its featureless face towards the source, cocking its head to the side in curiosity. As if realizing that something fun could come out of the creature, who it most likely thought to be nothing more than a cute little toy, the lower half of its face spawned a set of pristinely white teeth, each tooth as large as a person. The Witch was grinning, a smile filled to the brim with childish cruelty.

In this world, Yuko was completely alone, save for the giggling monstrosity before her. No one who she could rely on, and no one who could interfere with anything. However, that was exactly what she wished for.

- - -

The Witch fluttered its wings. The motion created a gust of wind so cold that it felt like it could cut through flesh and bone. Yuko crossed her arms in front of her face, providing the kind of protection that served more to make her feel better instead of actually helping. She was forced back, not because she relented, but because the wind made her slide backwards along the slippery surface.

Yuko gritted her teeth and, the moment the wind stopped, charged at the Witch. She couldn’t even go at half her speed because of the ice under her feet. It was a clumsy, almost amusing display. If it wasn’t so difficult to keep balance, she would have been cursing out loud - at herself, no less. After all, this was her fault. Being here, and this Witch being at all.

It took her far too long to get close to the Witch. It just stood there, looking down at her with its nonexistent eyes. Yuko raised her fist in an attempt to stub its toe, as that was all she could reach, but the monster fluttered its wings again, forcing her to the ground with gusts of icy, razor sharp wind.

Is Tiny Pete's teleportation system only 1-way? That is, can Yuma get him back after all this, or is our robot buddy going to be stuck in the Wookie Realm?

The gigantic child then took off, making its way up towards the void that substituted the sky of this world. It hovered above Yuko, still with a grin on its face. Miniscule pieces of its wings split off, propelled downwards by the wind. It created a hail of deadly ice shrapnel, each shard as big as a person's hand.

Staring down impending, unavoidable doom, the girl somehow felt the power to stand up. Despite the wind pinning her down, she mustered the strength to get back up to her feet. It was the unnatural power granted by her wish, no doubt.

Even though the projectiles were as fast as bullets, Yuko's fists were still faster. There was a deafening cacophony of horrendous noise as countless shards of ice were struck out of the air in their bullet-speed flight, inches away from reaching their target. One after the other, the ice shards were smashed into tiny, harmless particles.

She wasn't even trying to move her hands - they, quite literally, moved on their own. When she felt the agonizing pain of one of those enormous shards of ice penetrating through her shin, she wasn’t able to even flinch - that would have interfered with her movements, so her body did not allow that.

Successful hits continued passing through her guard. One lodged itself into her knee, neighboring the one in the shin. One grazed her by the right shoulder, nearly lopping off the entire limb. About seven went into her torso, one making it all the way through and coming out on the other side, colliding with the ground. Some of her organs were turned to mush, and her ribcage, broken into pieces, was scattered around her insides.

No longer could she breathe, and no longer was there enough blood to transmit oxygen.

Yuko was about to go mad from the sensations of her brand new, undying magical body. She just wouldn’t die, even after receiving a dozen lethal injuries. Her arms continued to defend her head, even as she wanted them to stop. It was as if everything else, including her sanity, was considered to be an acceptable loss.

One of the shards, split into two with a sloppy punch, ricocheted into the right side of her skull. Yuko lost vision in one eye. The brain damage stripped away her sense of pain. Some of her other senses shortly followed, but Yuko could not even tell which. She was left as some kind of an unfeeling automaton only capable of throwing punches, which she aimed at the things recognized as danger, perceiving the world only through the lone remaining eye.

Her wish was to fight, so she was going to fight, whether she liked it or not.

The barrage finally stopped.

Despite being unable to feel her own body, she commanded it to leap. In response to that simple mental order, her body flew up several stories in just a brief moment, like a human bullet. Boosted by the momentum of the jump, her brass knuckles went straight into the Witch’s forehead. The impact was strong enough to make the monster careen backwards in midair, pushed back by the mutilated Magical Girl.

She then repeated the barrage she previously used to survive the hail. As if made of black ice, the monster's head began to crack and shatter under the force of the impacts, getting swiftly chipped away and leaving behind a hole. The Witch had no lips, but its teeth formed into a frown, as if it was unhappy with the outcome. Clear, watery liquid leaked out of the wound.

Yuko started to fall. Her body refused to move. She crashed into the ice below, breaking a dozen more bones. She couldn't feel the pain from that fall, but it still disturbed her. What little remained of her blood leaked out, mixing with the melting floor.

The Witch split into countless snowflakes. The barrier was losing its shape, deforming back into reality.

With no more magic left to support her consciousness, the girl had finally died.

However, for a Magical Girl, death was a negligible thing.

I hope everyone can agree that we don't want to rely too heavily on things that burn tortured meguca souls for fuel after this fight is over, right?

Thank you, Twiceborn, for posting the writeup for me while I fall asleep mid-thread like an idiot.

Was supposed to be a bit of a surprise at the end, so maybe I should've posted it before this thread, hah. Anyway, thank you for reading, anyone.

Also, apologies to anyone annoyed by the Harumi appearance. For what it's worth, my writeups continue to be basically irrelevant despite the reference, so they're still extremely far from necessary reading.
